While their Alpha fights to survive, an elusive killer hunts among their pack, slaying humans and the wolves who mated them. The Enforcer’s rigid rule and terse attitude have everyone uneasy. On the hunt for madness, he may lose everything…

Ryker continues to hunt for the elusive murderer. The others have eliminated several suspects, but tensions in the Black Hills have never been higher. For all of his experience in hunting and dealing with the wolves, Ryker has never found himself torn between two loves before—to be the killer he is, means he has to turn off the softer side Saja awoke in him.

Saja’s life with the wolves is nothing she would ever have imagined. Being the center of Ryker’s attention is both a blessing and a curse, but her mate’s gentle, indulgent nature seems to be a thing of the past. While she understands his remoteness comes from a place where caring and fear collide, she doesn’t want to lose Ryker to the madness creeping through the pack.

Clashes with Colt and several other dominants heighten the danger, and Ryker refuses to allow her out of his sight unless she is with Gee. When the killer sets his sights on her, will the Enforcer drive his mate away rather than lose her?

Winter Blog Review

First off, if you haven’t read the first three in this mini series, do so now. The buy links are below. Reading these in order definitely enhances the reading experience, since you follow the case from beginning to end.

I am so upset and yet relieved at this moment. In the last book Drew survived surgery and now he just has to wake up. Five are dead, Sonya, Sarah, Sharon all human, the only mate alive is Charles and he has been cleared of the murder of Sonya and the attempt on Drew. A madman um madwolf is still on the loose, killing human mated pairs.

Ryker is scared for his mate Saja, he can’t lose her, but she won’t leave to keep herself safe. She needs to help, be with the other human mates they are scared too.  Being with the others at The Den with Gee would be safe enough, in spite of Ryker’s misgivings. He needs to concentrate on the hunt for this madman, find him no matter what and wait for Drew to wake from his healing sleep.

I don’t think I actually figured out who the mad one was until they all did. Wow just WOW! I was in tears when they found the last couple. I really loved them from Winter’s Solstice. My heart has been in my throat for a while now reading these. I love the human matings, they make this series a bit different since the mates aren’t turned and I don’t know if they can be. I think I was hoping all the humans would leave for a while just to be safe, but damned if they aren’t just as angry as they are scared.

A fingernail biting, emotional race to the finish. Loved the ending. Loved this mini-series. Love the Black Hills Wolves. I really need to read the rest of the in between ones, but will do that while progressing forward. I can’t wait for the next group as we watch this pack grow and heal.

Bravo Heather! You made me laugh, you made me cry and cry a lot in this one.

Winter Blog Blurb

A sexy, former SEAL and beautiful Mayan anthropologist find more than they bargain for when they team up to complete a decades old family treasure hunt in Cancun. From crystal clear waters to hot, steamy nights, they must work together to escape the danger waiting for them on the Riviera Maya. KaLyn Cooper has penned an exciting, spicy tale of love in the first book of her new, contemporary series, In Cancun. Curl up in your favorite chair and escape to the beautiful Caribbean with Christmas In Cancun.

Busy building a new career with his catamaran company, former SEAL Jack Girard had all but forgotten about his grandfather’s quest to find the golden Mayan goddess statues until his brother’s beautiful widow, Jillian, and adorable daughter, Addison, arrive in Cancun with the research. His need to complete the family mission is almost as strong as his desire for Jillian.

Between raising her daughter alone and finishing her doctorate in Mayan anthropology, Jillian doesn’t have time for a man in her life, although, after mourning for two years, she’s ready for one in her bed.

An underwater Virgin Mary statue and centuries-old manuscripts lead the two of them through the Mayan Riviera and directly into danger.

During steamy Caribbean nights together, will they develop the ability to move on and discover the real treasure is family?

Winter Blog Review

I always wanted to spend Christmas someplace warm, this just fills that fantasy in a different way.

Kalyn transports us immediately to the exclusive Mayan Nites Nightclub in Cancun. There we meet our leading man Jack Girard, with a group of his co-workers and friends. He is avoiding going home as his family descends on it for the Christmas holidays. His entertaining night is cut short as he is sent to retrieve his late brother Jimmy’s wife Jillian and their daughter Addison from the airport.

While this trip is for Addison to meet her family, Jillian is here to complete her doctoral thesis and fulfill a promise made to her late husband.

The sexual tension between Jack and Jillian is palpable from the moment they meet. Neither one of them is quite sure what to do about it, with family around at every turn. I really felt sorry for them, thwarted more than once. An unusual start to a relationship, but one that keeps you guessing.

Surprises abound for the family that only know Jillian from Jimmy’s funeral. There is resentment from Levi the oldest who considers her a gold-digger and a coldness from their mother Mona, who only seems to want to engage with Addison. Only Lily tries to engage Jillian, wanting to get to know her.

A renewed interest in his Grandfather’s hunt for the missing goddesses has Jack reviewing Jimmy’s research and assisting Jillian with hers every chance he gets.

Add to all that a corrupt Catamaran/Scavenger owner and a unscrupulous professor and you have a wild adventure.

Everything is brought to life vividly in this book from the chaos of the airport, to the beautiful beaches and underwater life. Everything richly interspersed with Mayan culture, folklore, and history.

All this wrapped up in Holiday celebrations.

Winter Blog Review

I love that this story involves an “older” woman and a younger man. So often it is the other way around and that’s so unfair, at least in my eyes.

Catherine Hightower and her niece Paige run Flytower, the multimillion-dollar business created by her and her late sister Marla. Marla died in a mysterious accident, an accident Catherine believes was caused by her brother-in-law Steve. Her instincts tell her he would do anything to inherit the business, but she can’t prove it. Needing to be in Hong Kong for meetings, she hires a contingent of bodyguards for herself and Paige. All of them former SEALs provided by Guardian Angel Protection Services.

They are efficient and nice but one of them really gets under her skin, there is an attraction she only notices when he is close to her. Almost as if his eyes were on her and not the surroundings. In some ways she wishes it too, but she is so much older than him and that bothers her.

Lots going on in this one. Right off the bat we have one of the bodyguards hurt and in the hospital. Catherine in denial that it was an attempt on her life and the fun just begins. To quote Garrett  “Honestly, sometimes keeping track of her was like herding cats.”

The markets of Hong Kong play a big part in this. Catherine likes to visit them and they are a security nightmare. More attempts on her life, an orphan purse snatcher and Garrett who won’t give up on her. Not personally, not professionally.

So many tugs at the heartstrings and lots that turns up the heat.

Winter Blog Review

If you haven’t read the first 2 books go do that now, I added the links to buy them below. It really enhances your reading experience.

Drew is still in a coma and the bullets aren’t working their way out as was hoped. With the discussion of surgery, Betty needs family around. All this stress can’t be good for her unborn child. She needs to take care of herself better.

Magnolia (Mags) is Betty’s sister and she has a secret, she is in love with a human mystery writer Clayton Davies. She meets him every day at the Perkulator for coffee even though she doesn’t like coffee.  Since he’s human she thinks its impossible to have him, even though he is her mate.  When they share a first kiss she runs from him to save him, and ends up going to Los Lobos with her father to be with Betty. Her pregnant sister needs the soothing calmness of her omega wolf while she is under so much stress.

Nobody, least of all Mags, expected Clayton to follow her to Los Lobos. When he does Mags admits she is his mate to Ryker to keep him safe.  Right after this little revelation is one of my favorite scenes.

“Can you shift?”

Her eyebrows shot up. “Right now?”

“Unless you have something else to do.” Like an appointment he didn’t know about.

She stepped back dropping his hand. “It may freak you out.”

“I’ve seen a lot of really bad things in  my life. There’s a reason I was a cop for only five years. I decided if I was going to run around in the muck of the world, it might as well be from my own imagination. Your carrying the soul of a creature I admire for it’s loyalty? Not bothering me.”

A tear slipped from her eye, and he reached out to bat it away. His spine stiffened. Mags should never, ever cry.

They didn’t expect Ryker to accept his help with their investigation either. Clay had been a police detective and can look at the murders from a different angle. Being human and mated to a wolf he can also be bait.

This book is different in that we have a female wolf mating a human and the murderer speaks to us, sort of. Telling us he is smarter than everyone, and also telling us what he is planning next.

LOVE the romance, LOVE the build up, and OMG the ending! Can’t wait to read the next one. See below for the links to the other two so you can catch up!

Winter Blog Review

If you haven’t read Scent of Murder go and read it now, I’ve been totally hooked. It is important to read these in order as each holds a relevant clue.

One of the first things Brogan scents is wildflowers, and the image it invokes for him is always the same. Natalie Gabbin his Gabby.  All he can think about with that scent wafting around him is her. Not good when he is supposed to be tracking a murderer.

On orders from Ryker, the pack enforcer, the pack gathered at Gee’s Bar for information about the murder and Drew’s condition.
Natalie Gabbin (Gabby) was among them, everyone was in shock. The feelings in the air were reminiscent of Magnum’s reign. Ryker offered no information and ordered everyone to go home and stay there until further notice. No one leaves pack land. As the crowd thinned, Gabby caught his scent and the feelings only Brogan could bring to the surface came to a boiling point. He was only a few feet away from her. I really loved her thoughts as Brogan leaned over her and ordered her home. Here are two small passages from this scene.
Gabby:
The rise of blush on her cheeks would be as impossible to hide as her aroused scent. For shit’s sake, Drew was in critical condition, Sonya dead, Charles missing, and she had been ready to use Brogan as her personal jungle gym. Home was definitely the place to be.

And a bit later Ryker to Brogan:
Ryker looked at him, his eyes intense, or, he thought, more intense than normal. His jaw tensed as he spoke. “Gabby isn’t my problem, and she wouldn’t be yours, either, if you would’ve taken what was yours years ago. I don’t have the time or inclination to deal with this Dear Abby shit.”

The hunt for this killer is hampered by so many other scents around. Brogan though, finds he will be following one scent and then it changes or disappears. A most confusing development.

Brogan and Gabby have a lot of history and they have much to work out. Gabby isn’t going to make anything easy for him and vise versa. When Sarah another human mate is found dead, and Gabby inadvertently discovers her mate Embry’s body. Things really heat up in more ways than one.

I couldn’t put this book down, it’s fast paced with a lot of information packed into the pages. Brogan and Gabby have a rocky road but when the sparks start flying between these two you’d best get something to drink. Its going to get very hot, very fast.

When you leave home to find yourself, sometimes the best place to look first is there…

Former Delta Force Operator turned CIA Ghost Ops Operative Cade Winters has been dodging his dysfunctional family for years. He isn’t supposed to have a family, it’s too dangerous, but Cade can’t let go of the only person he gives a shit about, his sister Veronica. When he makes his yearly call to her and finds out she’s receiving death threats from a homegrown terrorist group, Cade knows he has no choice but to go back to Texas to make sure she’s safe.

Fresh out of a six-year hitch in the Army, Cee Cee Logan thinks she’s finally earned her brother David’s respect when he finally offers her a job with his security firm. She quickly sees that isn’t the case when the job she’s hired for turns out to be that of the team secretary, a nice safe, desk job like he told her to get when she graduated college. Cecelia is frustrated, but takes the position because she is determined to prove to her chauvinistic and overprotective sibling once and for all she’s capable of so much more.

By the end of the first week, Cee Cee wishes she’d have just re-enlisted. Her body is stiff from sitting, her fingers sore and her mind numb, but what really makes her want to run back to Afghanistan where she would at least be respected by her colleagues is the company’s other new hire. Cade Winters, her ex-lover, is back in town and the hardhearted, hard-bodied operator is a man she definitely doesn’t know anymore.

When a trafficked woman’s repatriation clinic is bombed, and Cade’s sister Veronica, a judge, is in grave danger, Cecelia is presented with her opportunity to prove herself as an agent. But the question was, did she want it? Could she trust her partner to have her back when he seemed to be on a mission of his own to make her look bad every chance he got?

Winter Blog excerpt

18+ Excerpt from HELL BENT: Deep Six Security Book 3 (c) Becky McGraw, January 2016

“If you’d have talked to me before you lef—“ he started, but her sharp bark of laughter cut him off and he shot her a hot glare.

“I did come to talk to you but figured you weren’t much into talking or listening to anything I had to say with that brunette’s lips wrapped around your dick,” Cee Cee snarled, a brow lifted over her angry, hurt eyes.

A shock of electricity shot through his body to boil his blood which crept up to the base of his throat as memories of that night, the last time he’d seen her, flashed through his mind. He cringed, and his hands tightened on the steering wheel.

That night he’d been as cruel as he could be to her because he wanted to hurt her as much as she’d hurt him. Cade wanted to show her she didn’t mean an iota more to him than she’d proven he meant to her by leaving him dangling on a limb without an explanation or excuse for two fucking weeks. That she showed up on the night before the morning he knew she was leaving for boot camp, the absolute worst night of his life, made things worse. He couldn’t be held responsible for his actions or reactions that night.

“You broke into my apartment, and I was drunk,” he said defensively. And in so much fucking pain, neither the alcohol nor the hot, nameless woman sucking my dick could make it better.

“I didn’t break in, I had a key, remember? And thank God you were drunk enough to finally tell me how you really felt about me. You saved me a lot of future complications.” Her harsh laugh rang hollowly inside his skull. “It was a hard and painful lesson, but totally worth it. I learned not to trust a man with anything more than my body, or expect anything from him in return for a good fuck. Because I went in with that attitude, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to learn you were right—I am a damned good fuck—and the act is a lot more fun when satisfaction is all you expect in return. Sure makes things less messy in the morning, doesn’t it?”

Cade didn’t know what to say as his eyes flew to hers. The vulgarity falling from her soft lips made him want to wash her mouth out with soap for some reason. Blood crept up his face to set his scalp on fire, as the hard little smile that curved the corner her mouth, the knowing look in her eyes caused a tight band of regret to constrict his chest.

He had done this to her, turned her into this kind of woman. His hasty, drunken, and yes immature, words meant to hurt her had done so much more. They turned a soft-hearted girl into a one-night-stand kind of woman like the brunette.

Were you really naïve enough to believe I wanted more than a fuck, Brat? You were a good fuck to me, Cecelia, nothing more. Wise up about men—we’re only looking for one thing and you’re keeping me from getting that right now. Go away, little girl, I’m busy.

Pressure built in his skull and his breaths came hard and fast as he studied her, tried to find that girl he used to know somewhere in her eyes but failed. Cecelia’s chin lifted a notch as her arms tightened around her middle, before she leaned back against the seat and looked out the side window.

“You’re better than that, Brat.” God, so much better, and guilt for his hand in turning her into what she’d become closed off his throat, so his words were choked. “You may have gotten confidence in the military, but you sure lost any delicacy you may have possessed before, and that’s a damned shame.”

“No, I’m not delicate in the least anymore. You toughened me right up.” She looked at him with a lifted brow and a smirk curving one corner of her mouth. “I’ve become a woman not to be messed with and I thank you for starting that transformation, Cade.”

Winter Blog Review

Laura’s readers voted for who would have their wedding in this book. Nick and Becca won even though we wanted all of them to get married in this one.

Becca has to return to work and Nick doesn’t want to let her go. They have been together everyday for so long that normal, just doesn’t seem normal anymore. Before she starts her day she asks Nick to tattoo her after work. Nick takes that ball and runs with it, she is getting more than just a tattoo that night.

Memories of Tyrell Woodson’s attempt to abduct her hit her as she was leaving for the day. A tall, bald nursing assistant named Ben startled her. Not Woodson, just bald like him, no tattoos. She was okay. He wasn’t there.

Nick’s proposal had me in tears, as did seeing all the Hard Ink gang together again, celebrating something that means a future.

I laughed when the choose the venue for the wedding with a date just three weeks away, you know what people are going to think about that.

Nothing every comes easy for any of these wonderful folks. So I got really concerned when Becca started seeing and not seeing Woodson. Recognizing her own PTSD from that incident was a big step forward, but was it only that? One of the scariest and emotional scenes is in the excerpt below.

I did a lot of crying in this one as well as laugh at the antics of planning a wedding on short notice. I hate that this is the last of the Hard Ink books. I love this crew Beckett, Marz, Shane, Easy, Charlie, Jeremy, Kat, Emily, Sara, Jenna and of course Nick and Becca. There are a few surprises in store for us as well, thank you Laura!

The unfailing love and devotion to each other. The dedication of the team, it’s all there. Family.

I hope we will see them visit in Laura’s new series with the Raven’s MC coming soon.

Winter Blog excerpt

Nick nailed Becca with a stare. As he watched, she made a valiant effort to button up just how upset she was, and that made him worry even more. He knelt down in front of her, his hands on her knees. “What’s going on?” She shook her head, and his heart fucking broke as he saw her struggle to find her voice and hold back the tears.

Kat grasped something from Becca’s lap and held it out to him. “Someone left this in front of Becca’s locker at work today.”

Frowning, Nick accepted the small, floppy, black-and-brown stuffed animal into his hand. He guessed it was supposed to be a German shepherd, and the damn thing was missing a leg. It looked like someone had cut the back leg off and stapled the opening closed. What the hell?

“Look at the neck, Nick,” Kat said, her voice serious.

He flipped it around, and that was when he noticed that the animal was so floppy because the head was connected to the body only by a thin strip of material along the back. He might not have thought much about that if someone hadn’t gone to the trouble of spray painting the torn opening red. As if the neck had been slit. “Sonofabitch,” he said, hot prickles running down his back. “Talk to me, Sunshine.”

She heaved a deep breath. “I found it at the end of my shift,” she said. “I went to get my stuff, and this was sitting upright on the floor in front of my locker. I thought someone had left me a present until . . .”

“This is fucking twisted,” Kat bit out.

The words echoed Nick’s own thoughts. Twisted and threatening. The removed leg was clearly meant to communicate that the person knew Becca’s dog had only three legs, which made the threat personal and specific.

“Did you talk to security about this?” he asked, making sure to keep his voice even.

Becca shook her head. “I was so freaked out, I just wanted to get out of there.”

“I didn’t know about this until just now, or I would’ve brought us home earlier,” Kat said.

“I’m sorry,” Becca said, turning to Nick’s sister. “I just wanted to forget about it for a few hours.”

“I know,” Kat said. “You don’t have to apologize, but I’m worried about this.”

Nick nodded. “Can you think of anyone at the hospital who would do this? Who would have a problem with you?”
