Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack Alpha. Beaten by the Alpha’s thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.

Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.

But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

Summer is funny, determined and full of life. A skinwalker who prefers the form of a Raven to that of her natural cougar. The Raven that suits her far better and gives her more freedom.

Brick on the other hand seems to have lost all of his fight after his ill-fated challenge of the Alpha. Brought to this isolated cabin by Gee, his friend and a bear shifter, to heal both body and mind he doesn’t seem to want to do either. Until Summer takes things into her own hands, ummm beak.

I really love the build up in this book. It is light and full of fun with an undercurrent of something more. Although I knew it couldn’t last without something going awry. One of my favorite scenes is when Brick had brought home a woman and after Summer chases her away.

“You can’t be jealous, Annabel Lee.”

So he’d given her a name, had he? She liked that. She’d rained another batch of walnuts down on him, but more playfully. He caught some. Juggled. Standing in his clearing, looking up at the sky, tossing walnuts in the air and laughing. He had a deep, rich laugh. His laugh grew even deeper, richer over time. He fed the teasing, carefree, whimsical aspects of her nature. She looked forward to playing with him, to their game with the walnuts.

But not as much as she now looked forward to him removing his shirt.

One day, years earlier, he’d sat on his porch rocker whittling, whistling a little off-key, pausing to glance up occasionally, as if he knew he were being watched. A mischievous smile quirked his lips upward. When he finished, he placed a beautifully carved figure of a wolf on the railing. She hopped down to take a closer look. His best work yet. The detail stunned her, the knife strokes on the body making each whorl of hair of the creature’s furry coat distinct. The expression around the eyes, the mouth, one of wonder and bemusement, and just the right amount of devilry. Like Brick’s own. Hinting at the shaggy scruffiness of the carver in human form. She coveted the tiny sculpture. Wanted to grasp it and soar away, to hide it in her tree house for her and her alone. He’d winked, as if he knew.

“Yours, sweetheart.”
Wolf’s Song (Black Hills Wolves Book 4) (Kindle Locations 209-220). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Their getting together is fraught with politics, even though there is no doubt they are true mates.

A truly enjoyable read, lots of fun and hot sex complicated by family and pack and den.

Reluctantly taking her best friend’s place at a photo shoot, realtor Laine Parker expects to assist the photographer for the day…not drool over the volunteer model, Westin King. The Texas Ranger and real-life cowboy is hot-on-hot sexy, from the tips of his boots to the top of his Stetson. Despite her visceral reaction to the man, the last thing Laine expects is a whirlwind romance–but that’s exactly what she gets.

Wes has been around the block enough to know what he wants, and he wants Laine. He wastes no time showing her how he feels…but he may never get the chance to tell her. Laine has disappeared, and it will take every connection Wes has–and a little help from a mangy stray–to get her back in his arms.

It is a truth that love finds you when you aren’t looking for it. This book is a perfect example of this. From a first glance both Wes and Laine know they are in for it. What, they aren’t certain but the fire and spark is immediate. This scene from their first date is one of my favorites.

“Thank you for a wonderful night,” Laine said as they headed toward his truck in the parking lot. “Oh, the night isn’t over yet. The best part is still to come.” “The best part? Even better than the fried Oreos at dinner? You’ll have to try pretty hard to top that one, Ranger.”

“Darlin’, you haven’t seen anything yet.” Wes felt Laine shiver at his endearment, but was too much of a gentleman to say anything about it.

He drove them to his ranch, and to her credit, she didn’t protest or otherwise tell him to take her home.

When they stopped, she commented dryly, “I thought we weren’t going to have sex.”

“We aren’t. First of all, I said we weren’t going to make love, not have sex. I have a feeling it will never be just sex between us. Secondly, I want to show you something . . . and no, it’s not in my bedroom,” Wes joked before she could comment. Her snarkiness was just one more thing he liked about her.

Wes grabbed her hand and relaxed when she didn’t hesitate to squeeze his in return. “Lead on, oh fearless cowboy. But remember, I’m not wearing my boots.”

“You don’t have far to walk, just hold on to me and I’ll make sure you don’t fall.” He led them to the barn, grabbing a canvas jacket that was hanging on a hook just inside the double doors. He helped Laine into it then continued, holding on to her hand, to the backside of the large structure, relieved to see the four-wheeler sitting just where he’d asked his foreman to put it when he was done with it for the day. He threw his leg over and looked back at Laine. “Climb on, darlin’.”

“Really? Cool!”
Justice for Laine – Cowboy Justice 12-Pack (Kindle Locations 497-510).

As they get to know each other in and out of the bedroom, they also become friends. In spite of schedules that frequently keep them apart they can and do make time for each other. This is sometimes by phone instead of face to face. Until Laine makes a mistake, one that could prove fatal.

I love this book, I found myself laughing and holding my breath a lot as I read. The sex was explosive and the relationship insanely perfect.

Aspiring author, Nate Wilson wants some space from his overbearing family and a job he doesn’t like. A week on the Oregon coast sounds like paradise and just what he needs to get the creative juices flowing. Unfortunately, his plans are derailed when a storm moves in and a ghostly figure flashes in his headlights, sending him skidding off the road and into a tree. Lucky for him, he ends up in front of a Bed and Breakfast, and the beautiful owner may do more to spur his creativity than any beach could.

Hesitant witch and inn owner, Haylee Clark is cursed. Well, not her exactly—at least not yet—but all of the women in her family have suffered the same fate. They fell in love, only to have that passion turn sour and their husbands die tragically, leaving them brokenhearted. So far, Haylee has done well to avoid that destiny, but when the captivating Nate Wilson crashes into her life, he awakens something within her that she never thought to feel.

When the pair stumbles upon a hidden room where Haylee’s grandmother used to conduct her rituals, they unknowingly unleash a dark entity hell-bent on destruction, and discover that a family heirloom is the source of the Clark family curse. Despite the spell, they can’t deny their attraction, and give in to the magic between them. But the closer Haylee and Nate get, the more the curse tries to tear them apart. If they don’t find a way to defeat the evil, they may lose more than their hearts.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

This book was a gift in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Once again Lia perks up the interest in the first pages. A cloaked figure in white, a gargoyle waking, a cemetery and a bed and breakfast. Add in a car accident and we have our recipe for danger and excitement.

Hitting a tree was not how Nate wanted to start his vacation, but being it was close to a bed and breakfast it wasn’t so bad. Well other than the storm that was raging.

Haylee the proprietor of the quaint establishment, was welcoming in spite of her staff being off for the weekend. Although she may have been a bit short when explaining no phone or internet. I think that snippiness was more due to the attraction she was feeling than anything else.

Neither Haylee or Nate know what to make of Cam, showing up with no luggage in the middle of the storm. He’s here one minute then gone the next.

A spooky basement, with a somewhat hidden room discovered on a tour of the house. Something else is happening beyond the curse she knows about.  This is a favorite scene as they try to piece together what Haylee’s grandmother had done.

“Grams had worked in the ritual room for days. She’d forbidden me from entering the basement. When she finally came out, the stone was gone and she told me that everything would be fine now.” Haylee hugged her waist as a single tear rolled down her cheek. “The next morning, I found her dead in her bed. She’d passed in her sleep.”

Instantly, Nate rushed around the desk and wrapped his arms around her, drawing her into his chest. “I believe it’s the stone that’s cursed, not your family.”

She lifted her head and locked gazes with him, her eyes narrowing. “The stone? Why the stone?”

“I’m not sure. But I think we need to find out.” The first thing Nate would do was question the old man. After all, it was he who’d planted the idea in his head. “What do you know about it?”

“Grams found it when she and Papa were on vacation at the coast. The Sunstone can aid in healing, protection, and success. Plus, it’s associated with the element fire, which was Grams’ favorite element to work with.”

Haylee averted her gaze and moved toward the door, but not before he saw the tears fill her eyes.

“Is it possible that if the stone were cursed, it would react negatively?”

Stopping in the doorway, she turned to him. “Yes, that would, in many cases, be the point of a curse.” She rushed out the room as if realizing something.

He followed her with quick steps, stopping when she entered her bedroom. “What is it?” “It’s just a thought, but I think Grams was trying the break the curse. When she was unable to, she tried to contain the negative energy.” She zipped from her dresser to the nightstands on either side of her bed, opening drawers.

Confused, he watched her go to the closet and dig around on the floor. “I’m not following.”

“If it is the stone that’s cursed, then the fire within the stone is gone. The attraction and sexual energy were altered in some way. That is the only thing that makes senses.” She pulled out a shoebox and opened it. A moment later, she withdrew a black cloth. After removing the Sunstone from around her neck, she wrapped it in the cloth and placed it inside the box.

“Without the fire, the passion, a couple will fall out of love.”
SunstonesFire LiaDavis-eBook (Kindle Locations 411-429). Kindle Edition.

Nate and Haylee need to find a way to undo the curse or neither of them will ever have a happily ever after. Then there is Cam and his secrets.

I thoroughly enjoyable read. Lots of suspense and intrigue combined with a love story that gets the heart pounding and the pulse racing.

I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

An FBI agent and a bank robber, a match made in… well fate. Marcus has given up his job and his pack to return Xio to the Black Hills. Xio is his mate, and she would be safe with him and her pack.

Xio is fighting the mating urge as they make the trip. Returning to Los Lobos, Xio wants a fresh start. One that includes searching for clues about her ancestry, and learn to speak Mandarin her grandmother’s language. She was an infant when they died so she never had the opportunity learn it before. In the back of her mind are other things she has done. There is also the fear that her ex would send someone to kill her.

One of the things I really love about Xio is her arguments with her wolf. Somehow they are almost like my arguments with my computer. This is one of my favorite scenes when they stop at a motel on the way.

Sleeping with him would be a mistake. The chances of them bonding were above average. Avoiding it got harder with each minute that passed in his presence— and away from it. Damn, she was jonesing bad. She wanted to take a bite out of that man.

Or break the law.

Xio banged her head against the fiberglass siding of the shower. No!

Her she-wolf growled in frustration. You can’t resist once you hear the call.

Right. Resist this, bitch. She’d tell him a thing or two, straighten this out right away. There’d be no sex. There’d be no mating, and she sure as hell wasn’t going to do the alternative. Cuffs were so last season. Time to set him straight and get it all off her chest. Once she did, things would go back to the way they were before she met him.

Xio shut off the water and snatched the towel from the rack, wrapping her body, not bothering to dry off. She stormed into the room, and one sniff told her he still stood outside. Waiting. For what?

You know.

With a snort she threw the door open and stared at him. “We need to talk.”

Is that what you want to do?

Stop interjecting.

Make me.

His gaze swept over her nearly naked, very wet body, and she shivered. A fine, very masculine brow lifted slightly, and a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “About what?”

Actually, now that he asked the question, nothing came to mind. Need coursed through her, and her pussy began to throb. Screw it. Her current tactics weren’t working. Plan B.

Xio reached up, untucked her towel from above her breasts, and let it drop. Time to scratch the itch. She’d worry about the other problem later.

The smirk disappeared and his eyes turned copper, nearly glowing in the darkness. “Do you have any idea what you’re doing?” His nostrils flared and her stomach flip-flopped.

“I have a damn good idea.”

“I’m not someone you can play with and toss away when you’re done.” He didn’t step inside but continued to stare at her.

“You don’t want this? I know you been feeling it since we left Texas.”

“Baby, I want this more than you can possibly know, but until you’re ready to commit to me, it’s not going to happen.” He reached past her, grabbed the door. “Put some clothes on. I’m renting another room.” This time he was the one to slam the door in her face.

Footsteps receded and Xio growled. “You did not just….”

Yeah, but he had. Her wolf howled.

You’re not helping.

Neither are you.
Black Hills Desperado (Black Hills Wolves Book 3) (Kindle Locations 447-472). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Marcus and Xio have a lot to learn, both about each other and their new pack. Drew is a fair Alpha but there are things he just won’t tolerate.

There is a lot of action in this book. Combined with who knows what about whom. I couldn’t put it down until it was done.

Ryker is ever the lone enforcer. His cabin is on pack land but far from the town and at the time away from Magnum. As a blizzard approaches he hears a car, but when it passes the turn for Los Lobos and he hears the clank of metal, he follows. Humans don’t belong here but he can’t let this woman freeze to death. He has no idea what he is in for.

Saja is frustrated and angry at both her car and not a bit afraid of Ryker. Although those thoughts change when she realizes she is alone with him in a remote cabin. She also can’t understand the intense attraction she feels toward him.

A favorite scene, one that had me giggling was while Saja was showering and Drew came calling.

So complete was his distraction, he wasn’t prepared for the thump of boots on his porch, which gave him a scant few seconds to recover before Drew knocked on the door. “Ryker, came to make sure you got through the storm okay.”

Surprise slid through him— no one checked on his welfare. After stalking across the room, he pulled the cabin door open to the Alpha’s grinning face, but before Drew could utter a word of greeting, Saja’s song grew. Surprise replaced the other Wolf’s smile as his nostrils flared. Ryker schooled his features to reveal nothing— not that he could hide her presence. Younger than he by more than a couple of decades, Drew had lived among the humans for ten years, only returning to the pack in the last few months.

The Alpha stepped inside the cabin, his gaze going to the chair, the suitcases, the fire, then finally back to Ryker as Saja let loose with another set of lusty lyrics amidst the sound of the water falling. Ryker kept his own counsel, offering nothing until he got a sense of Drew’s intent.

Humans weren’t supposed to be in Black Hills territory much less his cabin. Protecting the pack came first. The Alpha’s primary duty was the safety of the pack. Ryker’s was to enforce the law.

“Okay, I’ll bite,” Drew said with a slow grin. “Why do you have a human in your shower?”

“She’s mine.” Meeting and holding his Alpha’s gaze, Ryker’s response had the effect of a bomb dropped into the middle of the conversation.

He’d found her. Until Drew confronted him, he hadn’t realized he planned to keep her.
What a Wolf Wants (Black Hills Wolves Book 2) (Kindle Locations 499-511). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

For the rest of this book it is a complicated, interesting courting. I loved every minute of this interaction and of course Drew’s ultimate reaction to all that occurs.

What a perfect beginning to a new series!

When Drew gets the text that his father is dying he didn’t know exactly what he felt. He certainly wasn’t sad, but he knew he had to go home. Back to the Black Hills, Los Lobos, his pack and his mate. Alpha Challenge wasn’t really on his mind at least not at first.

Betty, or B as Drew calls her has been trying to keep what is left of the pack together. She works hard to help those she can while being undermined by Magnum, her Alpha. No longer pining for her mate but mad as hell at him.

A favorite scene is when Betty sees Drew right after he sees the ruin of the town.

“Hi, B.” He almost choked on his words. “Long time no see.”

“Don’t call me B. You don’t get to use that name anymore. You…. You…. You….”

She must not have come up with what she wanted to say because she launched herself into the air without finishing. Shifting midway, she took him to the ground in her full-on black wolf form.

Betty tore at his clothes, shredding his shirt in mere seconds. “Okay.” He called out to her, hoping she’d hear him through the rage he could smell coming off her body.

Drew raised his hands to cover his face. If she wanted to kill him, he supposed she would be entitled to do so. But she stopped and pulled off, darting to the side before she put herself back in her human form.

“I don’t know what you thought coming back here would accomplish.” Her voice hitched, and it nearly killed him. “You should go back wherever you’ve been. Los Lobos and the wolf pack don’t need you, Drew. I don’t need you. Go, run away again. We can all pretend you never came back at all.”

Her words tore at his insides, but he ignored the pain. She’d launched an attack right at him, and the flare in her eyes hadn’t changed. Oh, yes. B was totally pissed at him and would remain that way for a good long while.

“B.” He held up his hands to stop her from interrupting. “I’m sorry, Betty. Elizabeth. Whatever you want. Ms. Holden. We have a lot to talk about. You deserve answers, and I wish I could adequately give you the ones you want. You don’t have to tell me anything. But if you would, could you at least let me know what happened here. Why did this place fall apart?”

She laughed, a cold sound he’d never heard her make before. He tried to ignore the way it made his stomach clench. There were lots of things about her he didn’t know. He’d known what would happen when he’d chosen to go. He had to live with the consequences.

“Everyone is gone, Drew. Anyone who could keep this place together has left, driven out by Magnum’s antics and destruction. Your father, his cronies who never cared in the least about keeping anything nice or cherished, remained. Gee has done his best. Ryker would protect everyone, but he stays in his place in the woods to keep your father from ordering him to do horrible things. His blood oath as pack Enforcer collared him. And then the elderly and the sick. I’ve been trying. But I can’t possibly do it. I can’t paint buildings and wipe brows at the same time.” She threw her hands in the air. “That’s what happens when the people who should be here aren’t here.”

He stood up. Enough. “Where is my father, B?”

Drew had done what he promised. He’d left, stayed away. His father hadn’t lived up to his end of the bargain. For the first time in years, Drew believed he was just the werewolf to bring him to justice.

“What difference does it make? You’ve never been able to do anything about him.”

His woman didn’t believe in him anymore. He couldn’t blame her. But maybe he could do something to help. “Where is he?”

5 Contented Purrs for Rebecca, but a hiss for editing on this one.

Editing wise there were words that should have been others. For example message instead of massage appeared more than once.

About the Author Spring Blog

Rebecca Royce Rebecca Royce

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I’ve been told I’m a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you’ll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

I’d love to hear from you!
