HEARTBREAKERS AND HEROES Box Set
HIDING WITH THE HEARTBREAKER
by USA Today bestseller
Virginia Nelson

Rule: Protect the innocent.
Making people laugh for a living is easy, but when a beautiful stranger needs Aloysius Sutton’s help, he has to find a way to become Jude’s hero.

Excerpt:

“When they found you and Mr. Braunberger, you were with the victim,” said the female officer.

“Yes, I ran to his side when I thought he might have been hurt.”

The woman nodded. “I see. Yet you didn’t make a sound or call the police or 911 at that point?”

Shaking her head, Jude twirled her ring. “No, because I wasn’t sure what I saw.”

“I see,” said the woman, jotting something down. Another officer entered the room and whispered something to the male officer.

“Miss Cramer, is it true that you exchanged heated words with Mr. Braunberger earlier today?” he asked.

Spinning the laptop to face her, he played back the security footage of her and Braunberger talking earlier that day. It looked incriminating. But she hadn’t done anything. Surely…

“I’d like to speak to an attorney, please,” she said.

One that danced on the edge of friendship, and skimmed around the border of his desire and stopped short of leading to more than they could handle. HER UNWANTED HERO
by
Veronica Forand

Rule: A real man always helps someone in need… he may be the only one who does.
A disenchanted police officer must choose between keeping a woman’s affection or keeping her alive.

Excerpt:

“If you need anything, holler.”

Holler? He needed to stop acting like she was a contagious disease and make a move.

“Hey,” she hollered.

That got his attention. “Are you okay?”

She smothered her laughter. “I need something.”

“Anything.” He looked like he meant it too. He’d probably run out for ice cream if she asked. Men could be so dense.

“Rocky Road ice cream.” His brows furrowed. Was he thinking of the logistics of buying dessert at one in the morning? Seriously? “Umm. Sure. I think I can go to the 7-11.”

“That would take too long. What about if I just take you instead?”

A flash of hesitation crossed his expression and then he stood. “Me?”

“Yeah. Ice cream would be a bit more satisfying, but I figure you’d do.”

He remained welded to the floor in front of the couch.

Self-doubt crawled back into her conscience. She’d taken a chance and lost. No harm, no foul. “Never mind.”

She retreated toward her bedroom. By the third stair, his hand rested on her hip, causing her to stop and turn.

ONCE A HEARTBREAKER
by
T.J. Kline

Rule: A real man never lies, especially to a woman.
Ty Preston ran out on the woman he loved twelve years ago, but now he’s back to prove he’s a changed man. However, Rayne can’t risk getting her heart broken by the cowboy again.

Excerpt:
He was so close she could feel his warm breath against her ear and, in spite of how much she wanted to hate him, she leaned back against into him, letting his strength support her, like she always had. Ty had been her rock from the day they’d met. It was instinct for her body to crave his touch, but she knew she had to fight it. His lips brushed the shell of her ear, and a shiver of longing raced down her spine. “I left Saddle Creek for you, Rayne, but I’ve come back for the same reason. I lied when I left. I loved you then, Rayne.” His voice was husky with emotion, making her entire body quiver from the inside. “I’ve never stopped loving you.”

HOMETOWN HEARTBREAKER
by
Heather Long

Rule: A real man always puts his best foot forward…
Zeke always planned to steal her heart, but she left him on base. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and Charity is up to bat. Can she tell her two-all stars the truth or will a foul end her best chance?

Excerpt:

Surprise flickered in his blue eyes, and she dropped her gaze to study his very kissable mouth. On that thought, she pushed out of the chair and he let his hand fall away. For a moment, hurt turned down the corners of his mouth and fresh regret stung her. She hadn’t meant to react so badly.

Catching his hand before he could walk away, she searched for the buoyant mood she’d had earlier. “I’m sorry. Maybe I am tired. I didn’t mean to snap. The coffee smells good…care to have a cup and watch me eat one of the cupcakes I made?” They’d been a final surprise of the day, Andie had adored hers but, based on his earlier comment regarding his diet, it hadn’t surprised Charity when he’d declined one of his own.

His tongue swiped over his lower lip. “Watch you eat a cupcake?”

TUTORING THE HEARTBREAKER TO LOVE
by
Hayson Manning

Rule: A real man never touches the hired help.
Can Savannah teach serial heartbreaker Walker to be domesticated in ten days and convince him that maybe they can have a shot at a ‘them’ or can Walker convince Savannah there can be a ‘them’ on his terms only?

Excerpt:

“Savannah, I know you’re checking me out.”

“You’ll need a couple of Sherpas to climb your Mount Everest ego because I was not checking you out.”

He turned and grinned. “I don’t have an issue with you checking me out. I just wondered if you liked the view?”

On this Memorial Day, I found nothing more fitting than to review this book by Jessica Scott. This is a powerful, emotional book. One that delves into the mind of a soldier both at home and deployed.

I was drawn into this story from the first page and read it in one sitting. I had to know how things turned out. From the heart-wrenching goodbye at the airport, through the flights to the base I felt I was with Sam, feeling everything he felt.

The angst, the conflicts within, the losses, every single scene was vivid even those within Sam’s mind. Even the mission that went FUBAR. Here is a scene from that mission a favorite of mine.

“They can’t just leave us out here, can they?” Major Whitman’s voice held an edge of something not quite panic.

Sam was unprepared for the violence of his own reaction. “You fucking coward,” he spat.

“I’m in charge of this operation,” Whitman said.

“And you’ve done an admirable job of fucking things up for us so far. How about you let the adults pick up and run with things now that you’ve broken all your toys?” Sam snapped.

“I don’t appreciate your tone, Sergeant,” Major Whitman said.

The attempt at pulling rank pushed Sam over the edge. He didn’t think. Didn’t consider the consequences. He lifted his weapon, thumbed the selector switch from “safe” to “semi” and fired.

It was quite possibly the dumbest thing he’d ever done. The round could have ricocheted off the walls, but instead it was absorbed by the soft metal of the coffee pot.

Everyone in the room hit the deck.

Sam fought the strongest urge to point his weapon at the major. It was all he could do to force himself to lower it. He wanted to drive the butt of his weapon into his fucking skull. Instead, he flicked his weapon onto “safe” as he lowered it. He jammed his index finger at the ruined silver bullet. “Your coffee pot cost me a truck. We could be heading back to base right now if it wasn’t for your stupid officer tricks.”

“I’ll have your ass court-martialed over this.”

“I think it’ll take a hell of a lot more than killing a coffee pot to get me court-martialed.” Sam stepped into the bigger major’s face and prayed, prayed, the man would swing on him so he could bust his teeth in. “I’ve got a fiancée at home with a baby on the way. I want to go home to them and I’ll be fucked if I’m going to sit back and let your coffee pot change that.” He pivoted toward the stairs. “Get the fucking antenna back up and get a truck hooked up to it.”

He walked out before he did anything else stupid.
Like actually shoot an officer.
Scott, Jessica. The Long Night: A Novel of Suspense (Kindle Locations 1632-1648).

This is a very intense, psychological book. I loved everything about it. Jessica you have a unique gift for bringing the hard truths to life. Thank you.

Dang this one damn near tore my heart out.
First Darci’s Aunt kept the message her father had written to her a secret until she graduated from college. I get she didn’t really know any better and wanted Darci to have a “normal” life. However, when Darci started shifting she should have given her the missive and traveled with her. Instead she fostered the hope that the shifting could be stopped and she could be a normal human. Now Darci thinks the shifting can be stopped if she seeks out the people in her dad’s letter. Little did she know that she would find her mate.

Ross is so sweet! He had no idea who was stumbling into his house during the violent storm. Darci completely took him by surprise, a delightful one. His mate sort of found him. A big surprise for him and me was when they were about to eat, one of my favorite scenes.

“Ready to eat? Burgers are done.” He piled the patties on a plate, collected the platter of fixings, and carried both to the table, setting them next to bowls of beans and slaw.

Darci sank onto a chair and slid a shiny purple laptop case next to her plate. “Thank you. Beans and coleslaw sound great.”

He sat across from her. “What, no burger?” He pointed at the beverages in the center of the table. “Water or coffee? There’s beer in the fridge if you prefer.”

“Water, thanks. And no burger. I, uh, don’t eat meat.”

He froze, his fork speared in the top burger on the pile. “Say what?”

She dropped a miniscule amount of beans and slaw on her plate while he gaped at her.

“But, how can you not eat meat. You’re a….” He bit back his next words. They hadn’t actually acknowledged their shifter identities.

“Wolf?” she finished for him.

He nodded. Good, he liked having the truth exposed. Would make it easier to segue into the and by the way, you’re my mate discussion. Later.

She poked at the slaw with her fork. “I never really gave the food thing much thought. My mom was human. My dad was a Werewolf. They died when I was six and my human aunt raised me. She’s vegan.”

“Sorry to hear about your parents.” Shitty way to grow up. He couldn’t imagine his life without the unconditional love and support of his parents.

“It’s okay.” She shrugged, a nonchalant gesture, but hurt glimmered in her eyes. “As a vegan, Aunt Jessica doesn’t eat or wear animal products. But she raised me vegetarian since she thought my Wolf side might need some animal protein.”

Ross snorted. “She was right.” He piled a meat patty, lettuce, and tomato on a bun. “No meat. It’s just contrary to the natural order of things.” Wolves hunt and eat what they kill. What did she do with hers? “You’re not supposed to play with the bunnies in the forest. You’re supposed to eat them.”

Oh and Ross has a kitten, I love it, a wolf with a kitten! I did a lot of sniffling and outright crying while reading this one. I just didn’t want to put it down. I would love to see more of this couple in future BHW books.

Triplets, the Buckley brothers were inseparable until everything went wrong one violent, bloody night. A.J. Buckley, the eldest of the trio, faced a human trial for a brutal murder. Found guilty, he was sentenced to twenty-five to life. Without argument or regret, he accepted the sentence. After six years in prison, A.J.’s conviction is overturned on a technicality and he returns to Willow Bend to face a new Alpha and fresh charges.

Vivian Knox was the only witness to the murder. She refused to testify in the human courtroom and spent a year in prison on contempt charges. Once released, she worked tirelessly to free A.J., finally locating a loophole in the case against him. Satisfied with his freedom, the last thing she expected was to be kidnapped to the back of beyond where another judge demands she testify to what she saw that night. This time, contempt is the least of her problems.

Only four people know exactly what happened that night and none are talking. When pack law threatens Vivian, A.J. must stake his claim, but his wolf might be too damaged to help him…

AJ is finally free, 7 years is a long time for a wolf to be incarcerated without being able to shift. Now Mason is demanding answers, not only from AJ but he has Vivian brought to Willow Bend as well. That didn’t go over well with AJ and he wasn’t shy about letting Mason know it.

Vivian worked hard to find the data needed to free AJ, now with him free she is set to move far away and heal far away. Fate however had a different plan. Margo and Owen had been sent to fetch her to Willow Bend. AJ has yet another trial, one that might not work out very well for him. She woke with bruises on her face and a split lip, and no idea where she was. Not good when you have had fugues before.

A trip to Emma and much becomes clear, at least to the reader. A prescription to rest, eat and play alone together. All with Mason’s approval.

One of my favorite scenes is Day two of their enforced alone time. AJ’s family decides to meet Vivian early in the morning, and his Mom is in the kitchen preparing a meal.

As if spurred by the encouragement, he guided a very embarrassed Vivian back to their bedroom. “I’m sorry,” he told her as soon as the door was closed. “I didn’t realize they were coming.”

“I met your mom in a sheet.” Vivian sat down on the bed. His mother, the wolf. Wolves knew everything from scents and she and A.J. had been having sex everywhere in the house. Mortification crawled through her and she buried her face in her hands.

“Hey.” The bed dipped as he sat next to her and then she was in his lap. “What’s wrong?”

“I was naked, in a sheet—in front of your mother!”

A.J. shrugged. “She didn’t mind and ignore Linc and Ty. They’re just jealous.” A pleased look lit up his face. “Because you’re mine.”

“But I was in a sheet.” How did one live down that humiliation?

“I was buck ass naked, darling. Trust me, she didn’t care. Most wolves won’t. We get used to nudity pretty young, and we ignore it.”

Well, how great for them. “But we had sex out there.”

His grin grew.

“I know.”

“Yeah, well, so will your mom.”

His grin faltered a little, and he blinked. “Mom came because she wants to meet you.” For a moment, she thought he would add something more, then thought better of it. “As for the sex, she knows what that is, Vivian. It won’t bother her.”
Caged Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend Book 2) (pp. 140-141). . Kindle Edition.

I truly wonder at times how Mason knows so much before everyone else does. This is a story of commitment and love that nothing and no one can stop.

Aimee Crest is the prissiest, most stuck-up Wolf Jackson Cooper has ever met. The woman has a temper that would send sailors running and enough emotional baggage to keep a shrink in business for a lifetime. A Wolf would do well to steer clear of her. And Jackson would be happy to do just that—if it weren’t for one little thing that makes her irresistible to him. She’s his mate.

It’s a fate Aimee didn’t ask for and one she’s not at all happy about. She doesn’t want a mate. More to the point, she refuses to accept one. Even if that mate happens to be tall, muscular, and damn good with his hands. He won’t be able to seduce his way into her heart. She won’t let him.

But in this battle of wills, there is no middle ground. Somebody is going to have to surrender.

Aimee doesn’t want a mate. The mate she wanted, her husband, her true love was rejected by her pack because he was a human. He died because she couldn’t bond with him and cure his cancer. Now she has returned to her pack to start over, and the first thing that happens is she runs into her mate. so she kind of lies by twisting her wedding ring.Jackson is new to the pack, a mechanic he has opened a garage to add to the growing community. When he stopped in at Gee’s Bar he certainly didn’t expect to meet his mate or for her to be married. Enlightened by Gee he begins the chase, this is one of my favorite scenes,

He raised his fist for the third time, but the door swung open. There, on the other side of the threshold, stood his mate wrapped in nothing more than a delectable towel. Her mouth moved as if she were saying something, but he couldn’t get past how beautiful she looked. And smelled. Damn, he wanted to leap into her house and lick her.

“Well? I’m waiting?” She tapped her foot in clear irritation.

Oh, right. She’s been talking. “I’m sorry. I didn’t hear you.”

She rolled her eyes. “What gives you the right to hunt me down in the dead of night?”

The voices he’d heard earlier reached him clearly, and he realized the sounds came from a stereo somewhere in the house. She hadn’t been ignoring him. She’d been taking a bath. But that didn’t excuse her earlier behavior. “You’re my mate, and you lied to me. You told me you were married.”

“I showed you my wedding ring. I didn’t tell you a damn thing.”

He snorted at the distinction. “You meant for me to think you were married so I’d leave you alone. Why? Didn’t like the universe pairing you with a commoner?” There. He’d told her the truth.

“It wouldn’t have made any difference to me if you were a homeless bum or the prince of a European country. I just want to be left alone.”

Yeah. Like she would’ve turned her cute little nose up at a prince. He didn’t believe her for one second. But he couldn’t come right out and call her a liar. That would kill any shot they had of getting together. He’d waited his entire life to find her. As much as she irritated him, he still hoped they would find a way to make some sort of relationship work. “Fine. But if you wanted me to leave you alone, you should’ve had the decency to tell me to my face. If your ring meant half as much as it should, you wouldn’t be hiding behind it. And you most certainly shouldn’t use the memory of your dead husband to lie to people.”

She glared at him, and her body trembled. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Yeah. That’s what happens when you go around lying to people.”

“Okay. You want to know the truth?” Her eyes snapped with anger, but her scent held a sweet undertone of pleasure. She enjoyed arguing with him.

“Please.”

“My husband died two years ago from cancer. My pack did nothing to help him. They could’ve, but they chose not to. So no, I don’t give a shit if the heavens open up and the stars align to spell out, ‘he’s the one.’ My pack turned their back on me, so I’ve turned my back on their traditions.”

“You’re going to punish me for what they did. Or what they didn’t do as the case may be?”

Her eyes glittered with unshed tears. “Collateral damage.”

“But that’s not—”

“Life’s not fair.” She slammed the door in his face.

Most would consider their little spat a complete loss, lick their wounds, and be on their way. But he wasn’t like most people. If anything, their fight had convinced him the stars were right. She might not like the universe meddling in her life, but he was what she needed. And she was what he wanted.
Reluctant Mate (Black Hills Wolves Book 11) (Kindle Locations 162-189).Decadent Publishing.Kindle Edition.

With the gauntlet thrown, Jackson begins his quest to conquer his mate and show her that she isn’t betraying her first love.

A page turner with lots of clever word play, smoldering flirting and sizzling hot sex, but have those tissues handy, I definitely shed more than a couple of tears reading this one.

Chandra Ryan Chandra Ryan

Being from a rather nomadic family, Chandra Ryan loves to travel and meet people. But she’s found that sometimes, like when you’re stuck inside because of a good old-fashioned Southwestern heat wave, you have to make do. Fortunately for her and her loving family, who don’t like seeing her suffer from cabin fever, she’s found creating new people and places equally as fascinating. Also, you’re a lot less likely to spill your ice tea.

After a dominance challenge ended with his parents dead, Mason left Willow Bend and his pack behind, choosing instead to live life on his own terms…as a Lone Wolf. A wanderer, he keeps his life simple and carefree–until an unexpected encounter brings him face to face with his tragic past and the woman he always adored. Determined to get her out of his blood, he teases her into an easy one-night stand…but one taste will never be enough.

Alexis Huston lived on the fringe of pack life, adopted as a young girl. She’s never been strong enough, fast enough, or pretty enough–except to Mason, but then he left her. Allowed her freedom as an adult, with a promise to keep the pack’s secrets, she’s struggled to fit into the ‘human’ world. A chance meeting turns her hard-won life upside down.

She is left with two options. She can tell the only wolf she’s ever loved that she’s carrying their child…or she can protect him, keep the baby a secret, and run.

When Mason Claybourne scented Alexis Huston and knew she was in trouble, he had to help her, protect her.

It had been a long time 10 years since he was forced to go lone wolf. He knew he couldn’t stay with her but he could make sure she was safe and back with the wolves that should be protecting her. The thing was there weren’t any. She was here alone.

One of my favorite passages is after Mason interrupts an attack on Alexis and he brings her back to her apartment.

She seemed to remember breathing and went back to eating her ice cream while he cleaned and dressed her wound. When he was finished, he glanced up to meet her dark eyes.

“Thank you,” she said without a hint of reproach or her earlier antipathy.

“You’re welcome.” He kept her leg captive and continued to watch her eat the ice cream. Then because he couldn’t help himself, he said, “You grew up.”

“It’s been ten years,” she looked at the ice cream, and he found himself envying the sweet treat. It was an altogether unpleasant feeling.

“Why aren’t you in Willow Bend?” Why wasn’t she on pack lands? This far south—she was in one of the few unclaimed cities, though practically on the doorstep of the Crescent Delta pack.

She shrugged, and took another bite of the ice cream. “You don’t have to stay. I’m home. As you can see, I’m safe. You can go back to walking alone or whatever the hell it is you do.”

Trailing a finger down the back of her calf, he studied the way she purposefully ignored him. God, he’d missed her. Her sass, her temper, and the way she knew exactly how to give in just enough to make a dominant back off, but still maintain control of the situation. And damn if she hadn’t gotten better at it. “Alexis?”

Sitting forward, she pulled her legs away from him and handed him the second spoon. “I let you save me. I ran interference with the cops. I allowed you to walk me home and be all alpha male in charge while you checked out where I live and made sure my injury had been tended. I’ll even share my ice cream—but interrogate me? No. You want to do that—the door is there.”

He stared first at the spoon then at her. Her pulse gave away her gambit, but the steadiness of her hand and the clarity in her eyes was just too damn beguiling. The best decision for both of them would be for him to leave.

He was a Lone Wolf.

She was pack.

Her being human was inconsequential—he’d never cared about her race, only that when she smiled his world was brighter.

And he’d been living in the dark for a long time.

Accepting the spoon, he eyed the pint in her hand. She held it out to him and smiled.

There really was no other choice for him.

There is a history between Alexis and Mason, one that requires a lot of fixing. Complicated by Margo one of the enforcers who keeps their eye on lone wolves like Mason, to be sure they follow the rules. If the rules are broken the lone wolf will be punished. And it appears Mason is going to be all about breaking rules now that he has Alexis.

This couple is explosive when they come together. The question is would they be able to. I loved this book and could not put it down.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

Isn’t it always when you are extremely happy with where you are in life that things happen to change everything? Well that’s what happens here. Archer had thought his father disinherited him when he left everything behind. SURPRISE! Now he is a multi-billionaire and doesn’t want anything to do with it. With the aid of Banks, his fathers butler and the man that really raised him, Archer concocts the perfect plan. One that allows him and his friends Miquel and Tosin to keep doing what they love but in a much more pleasant environment.

You can tell how tortured Archer is by his past and the real reason he left everything behind. Now he is faced with not only the past but the person who haunts his guilt filled dreams Waverly Adams. The thing is she doesn’t remember, not anything except someone saved her life. This is one of my favorite scenes one that had me crying.

She shrugged. “I’ve accepted it. Moved on as best as I can. The hardest part was not knowing— who or why, I mean. Never being able to bring my attacker to justice or simply stare him in the eye and ask how he could have been such a coward as to drug and rape a barely legal girl.”

* * *

What?

Archer blinked. Suddenly it all made sense— why Waverly had come here, how she could stand to be around him.

She had no fucking clue.

Son of a bitch!

He might not have done the right thing back then, but he wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice. No matter the consequences. He deserved her loathing and any other repercussions for telling the truth.

“Waverly,” he croaked as bile eroded his esophagus. “I can fix that for you at least.”

“What do you mean?” She tipped her head, nibbling on her lower lip.

“The man who did such a horrible thing to you… who hurt you so bad…” He drew a shaking breath, nearly crushing the tabletop in his hands, which gripped the edge as if he were clinging for dear life lest he be washed overboard in the storm brewing around them. “It was me. I’m so, so sorry.”

Her head whipped back as if he’d sucker punched her. Then she flew from the table, knocking the chair over in her haste to escape. He wanted nothing more than to go to her, to keep her from falling as he had once in a place far, far away, but he wouldn’t dare advance on her or make any moves that could be interpreted as threatening.

No wonder she’d accepted his apology so readily this morning. She hadn’t even known what he’d been begging forgiveness for.

Trembling all over, pale as an albino fish’s belly, she staggered away from him.

The only thing she said before she disappeared inside was, “I quit.”

“I understand.” Archer felt as though he’d gotten sucked into the ship’s propellers where blades chopped him to bits. Nothing in him remained untouched, unscathed, or unbroken. His heart and soul were minced. Yet the only thing he cared about was Waverly.

He slapped his hand on the intercom. “Banks!”

“Archie? What’s wrong?”

“It’s Waverly. Find her. Help her. Whatever she needs. Tell her to take the chopper if she wants, but make damn sure she’s sound to fly before you let her take off.” He couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to her because of him.

Again.

“Are you okay, Archie?”

“No.” He didn’t elaborate. “But Banks, anything she tells you, believe it. It’s true. All of it.” He groaned as he imagined the extent of the man’s shock and disappointment in him. “If you would like to go with her, I don’t blame you. I’m sorry.”

“Archie!”

With a vile curse, he took his hand off the intercom button. Then he locked the doors to his cabin. He wasn’t fit company for anyone.

And might never be again.

When love is on the line… Texas Lawman, Cain Whitfield, discovers the wary brunette he’s had his eye on is a former mob enforcer’s girlfriend when her cabin goes up in flames and her boyfriend tries to run them both off the road. Now, he’s got to keep her alive and under wraps long enough to arrest him – then he can wipe his hands of her. Even though she knows they’re all wrong for each other, Carina Black can’t help her attraction for the proud lawman. The longer they’re together, the hotter their passion burns…

Review Spring Blog - Copy

What happens when a small town deputy meets a frightened, shy and beautiful girl on the run? You get a tale of protection and intrigue. Cain has been hurt by a woman who played the part of helpless and as such he has become very skeptical of women. Particularly those who look like they need help.

Carina is scared, running from her boyfriend who is the son of a mobster. He doesn’t like to lose and she fled. Not only did she run but she stole money from him to accomplish it.

When Cain first sees her she is in ill fitting clothes in the office of the Prickly Pear Motel. The second time they meet up is when the cabin she has rented goes up in flames. Definitely arson, but is she involved? A wild car ride avoiding a maniacal boyfriend as Cade takes Carina to town has him wondering even more about this shy young woman.

Carina needs  protection and Cain finds himself assigned to do just that. Here’s a favorite scene as they prepare to head to Cade’s home.
Cain stepped to her side. “He might be watching for her to leave the station.”

The sheriff pursed his lips. “Still got those ugly clothes you arrived in?”

Narrowing her gaze, Carina frowned. “Wouldn’t you feel like crap if they were really mine?”

The sheriff arched a brow.

Carina huffed. “I put them in the trash can. “Well, go get ’em.” The sheriff looked beyond Carina and the deputy. “Hey, Rita.”

“Ooh-wee! Do I get to be bait?” the older woman said with more than a hint of glee in her voice.

He gave her a wink. “You do, ma’am. Perez’ll give you a lift in his squad car to your house. We’ll put a blanket over your head.” He fished in his pocket and brought out keys, which he tossed at the deputy. “That’s for the old Coronado out back. Five minutes after Perez leaves, you head out with the girl.”

I’m not a girl, and I’m right here, Sheriff! Carina knew she’d have a canker sore from the number of times she’d bitten her lip to keep from commenting.

“We’ll keep you safe, Ms. Black,” the sheriff said. Then he turned to the men in the group and indicated that they follow him. They strode past her and headed down the hallway. A door closed in the distance.

“I’ll go get those clothes.” “No need,” Rita called out. “Have to change in the bathroom, anyway. I’ll fetch ’em from the trash.”

Alone with the deputy, Carina turned and glanced upward. “I’m a lot of trouble.”

“You are.”

She nearly winced at how quickly he agreed.
“Last thing you want is to babysit me. Give me back my money, and I’ll be gone.”

“Can’t do that, ma’am.” Ma’am. She couldn’t recall anyone but a high school kid at a gas station ever calling her ma’am. She liked the way it sounded in his smooth baritone. She thought she might like to hear him say more words. Ones not spit like bullets. She glanced away. “I won’t cause you any more trouble.”

“Can’t help you were born that way.”

Carina narrowed her eyes as she returned his steady stare, not sure whether he’d insulted her or was cracking a joke. Hell, she wasn’t sure which made her hotter.
Cowboy Justice 12-Pack (Kindle Locations 10277-10296).Kindle Edition.

A fun read as we watch Cade try to ignore his attraction to Carina. A tense investigation with no leads as to where her mobster ex might be. With lots of steamy sex to add to the fun.

Synopsis Spring Blog - Copy

After a lifetime of war, Commander Trenzent has left behind the bloody battlefields of the Bel’Tan galaxy and traveled to Earth in the hopes of finding his bondmate. He can only pray that the one woman in the universe who can save his battered soul can look past his scarred exterior to the man within. Unfortunately for Tren, his potential bride is terrified of men thanks to years of abuse at the hands of her father and won’t be easy to seduce.

Paige Grant is pretty sure she’s losing her mind obsessing about a man who doesn’t exist. Ever since the night a wormhole opened up next to Jupiter she’s had these intense dreams about a terrifying, damaged man who awakens a passion inside of her she never knew existed. Despite his grim exterior, he makes her feel safe, something she desperately needs in the real world as she fights off the advances of a man who will not take no for an answer.

But Trenzent isn’t the only Kadothian warrior who believes Paige is his bondmate. An old political enemy of Tren’s, Rell Thantos, also believes the sweet and shy young Earth woman holds the missing part of his soul. He will do whatever it takes to win her heart, even if it means becoming bloodbrothers with a man he hates.

The men will have to find a way to get past their anger and work together to protect Paige against an unknown enemy who is determined to keep the women of Earth out of the Bel’Tan Galaxy forever.

WarningThis story is set in the Bel’Tan galaxy where polyamorous relationships are the norm and love in all of its forms is accepted including M/M, M/M/F, M/M/M/F sexual situations. Basically if you don’t like hot dudes kissing hot dudes, this may not be the series for you.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

This installment of the Bondmates series is just as hot as the others. It never fails to amaze me the way the interactions between the human women and Kadothian warriors plays out. I find a great deal of humor in reading the initial reactions of both of them.

This book shows the beginning when the wormhole from the Bel’Tan Galaxy has just opened. We see the chaos it causes on Earth when Roxie (Casey’s sister) is called to active duty and tells her friends Kimber, Dawn and Paige to get home as fast as possible. Casey is renting a house from her uncle where all these magnificent males have taken up residence next door to her. This takes place just before she accepted the bonding with her warriors.

Paige loves fairy tales an escape of sorts having been severely abused by her father. Her initial reaction to Trenzent is a comparison to Beauty and the Beast, which does become a bit of a theme here. Although not even close to said fairy tale as this book is at least a triple x rating. Tren is scarred and he believes Paige is lying when she calls him handsome This is one of the few scenes in this book that don’t have sexual references and one of my favorites.

“I’m not lying.”

“I know females find them unpleasant to look at.”

She frowned up at him, then took her hand off his chest and put it on her hip, secretly unable to believe she was being so brave with this scary stranger. “So you’re saying your scars make you ugly and unworthy of love?”

“I…” He appeared to snap out of his melancholy, and a grin teased his lips that turned him from handsome to panty dropping hot. “No, little one, they do not.”

“Darn right they don’t.” She looked up and noted a few guys watching them closely. “Give me your hand.”

“Pardon me?”

Not waiting for him to act, she took his large hand in her own small one, a shiver of delight rasping through her at the feel of his hot skin. She should have known then what she planned to do was not a good idea, but she hated the thought of this obviously remarkable man feeling bad about himself. It must be hard for him, being surrounded by all these supermodel hot guys with his noticeable injuries. Without giving herself time to think, she slid his hand beneath the hem of her top, shivering at the feeling of his rough skin scraping over her soft belly with its hard lines of healed skin.

“I have scars. Does that mean I’m not worthy of love?”

Her voice came out in a broken whisper, and the man made a low sound of pain. “No, alyah, you are unbelievably worthy.”

She pressed her hand over his. “Then so are you.”
PaigesWarriorseARC (Kindle Locations 666-678). Kindle Edition.

Tren is called away because of Slavers having come to Earth through the wormhole and misses a date with Paige, things also become complicated since Casey has disappeared without a word to anyone.

Now he has to convince Paige to not only kiss him but trust that he had nothing to do with Casey’s disappearance.

This is a fast paced read with lots of really sizzling sex. Even more so when Lord Rell becomes involved as Tren’s blood brother. I really love the world Ann has developed here. The ongoing war with the Hive, the political structure and the future with more bondmates coming from Earth will have you begging for more. I know I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

I love meeting the characters in this series, I am loving the Heroes and Heroines. But this one takes us even further. For those of you who have read the SEALs Of Protection Series you will remember Cade’s sister Penelope from Protecting The Future and Beth from Protecting Summer. This is Beth’s story.

Beth suffers from agoraphobia, the fear of leaving the safety of her apartment. While not a total inability for her to leave, there are only certain conditions under which it is possible. When she inadvertently starts a grease fire in her kitchen she calls 911.

Cade Turner is one of the firefighters responding to the call and recognizes her panic attack as another firefighter tries to lead her outside; away from the smoke and to the medics waiting outside. He is the one to help her calm and when his sister Penelope shows up they are both in for a surprise. Penelope met Beth at their therapy group and she often helps Beth by taking her shopping for the things she can’t get online.

Cade is interested in Beth but dismissed those feelings until his sister showed up. Now he is more interested than ever.

One of my favorite scenes is after a shopping trip that is started by Penelope and finished by Cade. An unexpected event happens on the way back to Beth’s apartment and leads to him spending the night. This is the morning after.

He felt her smile and opened his eyes and pulled back. He wanted to see it for himself. Yup, it was small and tentative, but it was there. “Thank you, sweetheart. That’ll keep me going until I can see you again.”

Beth pushed a lock of her hair behind her other ear and he could tell it took some effort, but she said, “I’m looking forward to it.”

Cade leaned down, brushed a quick kiss over her now swollen lips and stepped back. He wanted more, but he was patient. She needed to know that he wasn’t going to rush her into anything she might not be ready for. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her. “I’ll message you later. I have three days on and two days off this week, so I won’t have a lot of free time to see you, but I’ll touch base electronically…all right?”

“Yeah. That sounds good.”

“If you need anything, though, let me know and I’ll take care of it.”

“I’ll be fine.”

“I know you will. Do me a favor?”

“What’s that?”

“Try not to hack into the President’s email until I can get you on the FBI’s payroll, okay? Courting you while you’re in prison would cramp my style.”

Beth laughed, as he’d meant her to. “Can’t promise, but I’ll see what I can do.”

“I’d appreciate that. Have a good day, sweetheart. I’ll be in touch soon.”

“Bye, Cade.”

“Bye.”
Susan Stoker. Shelter for Elizabeth (Kindle Locations 921-929).

A complex series of events and a desire for normalcy leads Beth to a compulsion that could cause the end of her and Cade’s relationship.

Cade’s unfailing devotion and love gets tainted by accusations instead of rational discussion.

I know this couldn’t have been easy to write, what with panic attacks described very realistically.  Cade’s patience as he courts Beth, was both humorous and sweet. At least until they hit the sheets, then it became sizzling (pun intended).

I laughed, I cried both happy and sad tears during the journey this book takes us on.  I also loved seeing so many characters from the previous books.
