Review Spring Blog - Copy

I want to thank Heather Long for giving me her novella in this wonderful collection to review.

Zeke has no idea of the surprises awaiting him as he travels home for the first time in 8 years. He hadn’t gone before because he couldn’t bear to see the love of his life with someone else.

Charity lied all those years ago, lied so Zeke wouldn’t give up his dreams. She’d been making decisions for everyone now it’s time to come clean. The truth is going to hurt but she finds she can’t continue living the lie.

All things considered Zeke handles the declaration quite well, and as they continue to get to know each other as a family the bonds from the past surface. A favorite scene is after Charity and Andie take a day to be with Zeke and Andie is asleep.
“Adulting is hard,” she admitted.

His devastating dimple appeared as his cheeks creased. “Adulting, eh? Is that what we’re doing?”

The tension holding her captive burst, and she laughed. “Yes, it’s what we’re supposed to be doing.” After all, she’d admitted a long deception, which kept him from his child and tried to find a way to fold him into her daughter’s life. “I mean, we’ve handled everything with maturity, right?” Did she want confirmation that they were simply two parents stumbling into the direction of working together or did she want him to deny her charge and…

“Sometimes you think too much.” The drawled observation didn’t carry a tone of insult, but at the same time…

“Sometimes I don’t think everything through,” she admitted. “Like the inherent danger in kissing you.”

Nostrils flaring ever so slightly, he turned his sharp arresting gaze from her lips to her eyes. Raw passion scorched her. “What are you afraid of?”

“I think a better question would be what am I not afraid of?” Eight years ago, she would rather have melted into a puddle than admit her fears. That was then, she reminded herself. “We’re not in high school anymore, Zeke.”

“No,” he agreed, too easily. “We’re not.”

“Any attraction we’re feeling…it’s normal. We know each other so well.” Then she amended hastily. “I mean we knew each other well.”

“Yes, to both. Though I like to think we still do… You’re still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known.” The creases in his cheeks reappeared. “More beautiful now than then…and smart, determined, funny.”
Hometown Heartbreaker. Heartbreakers & Heroes (Kindle Locations 9882-9897). Kindle Edition.

There is a lot of emotion in this book, a lot of things to be said and acted upon. I truly enjoyed this sort of second chance tale.

5 Contented Purrs for Heather!

I can’t wait to read the rest of the “Rules” in this collection.

About the Author Spring Blog

Heather Long

Heather Long

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas in the summertime.

From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories–her characters drive the books.

When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
