In order to keep close to an alpha cowboy her boss wants protected, Knight agent Tara Lynch draws on her acting skills to play a scared schoolteacher who witnessed the murder of a hitman, and on her restraint to resist falling for the sexy cowboy.
Former SEAL Callahan ‘Rook’ Lawe agrees to help his old commander, but with his hands already full investigating accidents on his training ranch that put his brother in the hospital, his attraction to the beautiful woman is a distraction he doesn’t need.
A little deception can go a long way to making or breaking a relationship. Assigned to help and protect Callahan “Rook” (a new member of the Knight Protection Agency) Tarah tries to keep much of her cover story the truth. She is a Knight operative but after killing a key player (a mobster’s son) she could be a target. So in a weird sense Rook and Tarah are protecting each other only Rook has no idea who she really is.
Rook’s brother Remy operates their training ranch and there have been suspicious incidents happening, one of which left Remy with a broken shoulder. After establishing her cover as a school teacher and Rook’s fiancé with a sizzling kiss, she uses the distraction of kittens to find out more about the accidents and the ranch. Anything else was going to be difficult because Rook slept outside her door. One of my favorite scenes is at breakfast the first morning.
Halfway through breakfast, Rook couldn’t put his finger on it, but something was up with Tarah.
Thirty minutes ago, when he’d returned to her room, he thought he’d heard her talking. When he asked her on their way downstairs, she told him she was on the phone with her brother. He didn’t get the sense she was lying, but he still couldn’t shake the feeling she was hiding something.
“So, Tarah, what grade did you teach?” Rook asked, cutting into a fresh stack of pancakes Burly set in front of him.
It wasn’t lost on him that she’d chosen to sit across from him. Right next to Remy.
She set her fork down and smiled. “Middle school English, so that’s sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.”
“Damn. Middle school in D.C.?” Remy whistled. “You’ve got a pair.”
She laughed. “Yes, except I wear mine on my chest.” Then she slapped a hand over her mouth and blushed.
Burly’s chuckle mixed with his brother’s bark of laughter. But all Rook could do was recall her chest that morning, and how she certainly had a pair of pert nipples he’d wanted to rip out of her dress and cover with his mouth.
She dropped her hand to the table, the pretty silver bracelet on her wrist clanging on contact. “Sorry, that slipped out.”
“You don’t have to apologize.” Burly patted her hand. “It’s been a long time since this house has heard laughter like that.”
She snickered. “The way my tongue runs away with itself, the house is going to be sick of me.”
Burly glanced at him when he replied. “I highly doubt that.”
Cowboy Justice 12-Pack (Kindle Locations 11562-1575).Kindle Edition.
Lots of fun watching Tarah and Rook trying not so very hard to stay unattached. All while trying to figure out who is causing sabotage and accidents on the ranch. These two just sizzle, but when the truth comes out… will they be able to make it.
5 Contented Purrs for Donna!
It’s all my mother’s fault.
She read to me before I could read and opened up that magical world where I still reside today. Then came television and movies. Now I had three avenues that fed my imagination…and boy could I eat! As you no doubt figured out, this lead to my writing career. I’m a NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon Bestselling Award winng author. Phew, that was a mouthful! Multi-published in e-book and print with several publishers, I certainly have a ton of voices in my head.
I’m happily married to a military man for 28 years. We have four children and several rescued cats. Michael’s been in the Army National Guard since before he graduated. The Guard has been a part of our lives right from the start. It was only natural for the military to spill into my writing. God bless the military and their families. Thank you all for your sacrifices. ♥
You already know my mom inspired my love of reading, but it was my dad who got me hooked on movies. Even now, if I had the time, I could happily go from one movie to another all day long. They are the reason I love mixed genre and why I can’t just stick to just one in my writing, although, as you can tell, I have a soft spot for cowboys and the military.
Well, that’s about it. Thanks for getting to know me a little better. Remember, keep reading to your children. The journey you’re igniting is precious. And the next time you’re at the movies, turn around. I just might be the person sitting behind you. No, not the one throwing popcorn (it’s too expensive to waste). I’m the one already imagining the sequel.
Have a great day and thanks for reading!
