At the end of Kidnapped By Her Husbands, a very pregnant Mel has woken up alone after her surgery. Her husbands have been taken by, of all people, her mother. Now she has no choice but to get her memory back, but she has to do it before she confronts her mother. To do this she needs her sixth husband’s help. He is the missing part of her heart he is also the only one who knows why she left her ship Artemis to begin with.

Cooper is a virtual prisoner of his family. A prince, he has been watched constantly since Melissa was taken from the facility. The other husbands don’t trust him, and now Mel needs him to get away and meet her. They need a plan to get her memory back and the rest of her husbands too.

With Cooper’s help she meets up with her Aunt Jayne, her father’s sister and one who can fill in some of the holes in her memories at least until she can get her own back. They also decided on a place for her to get her memory back before going to the Bridge to confront her mother. This is a favorite scene.
“I’m getting in the machine and when I wake up I’m going to know what scared me enough to run. You knew my guys were on The Bridge. You must have people there who still communicate with you.”

She raised a dark eyebrow. “I do. They don’t like what’s going on. Not enough to uprise on Rita, but enough to talk to me.”

“Would they be willing to help me?”

Jayne moved closer to the screen. “In what capacity?”

“I don’t know what decisions I made before but I know what I want now. The guys, all six of them, safe. My daughter protected. I think my father is the one to do that. I think that’s what you want, too. A way to get to your brother. Am I right?”

She did me the courtesy of not pretending I wasn’t right. “Yes.”

“Get yourself together, bring whoever of your staff wants to go, too. Come to the Artemis. We’re hidden behind one of Ochoa’s outlier moons. When I wake up after the machine, I’m not going to be me anymore, or not exactly as I am now. You need to have already put this in motion so I can’t call it off. Be here, ready to put a gun to my head to tell you where my father is.”

Jayne’s eyes were huge. “You’re remarkably smart.”

“I’ve been watching news reports on the vid screen. Why does The Bridge keep popping into the area and then vanishing again? What’s happening with it?”

She shook her head. I’d finally asked her a question she couldn’t answer right off the bat. “Clearly, it’s a technical problem. They don’t really know why. My best guess would be your Wesley had something to do with it before they knocked him out.”

Her words stopped my heart for a second. “Knocked him out?”

“They’re all in cryogenic sleep now. Turned out the five of them on The Bridge were more than Rita was prepared to deal with. Dead guards, escape attempts, systems breaking. She’s getting ready to be all over the Nomad airwaves offering money for you now. Artemis won’t stay hidden forever.”

Focus made my back stiffen. “Saving them and my daughter are my first priorities. This baby is coming soon whether we are ready or not. Cooper won’t like you here ready to threaten me when I wake up. Be prepared for his resistance. There’s a play I have to make for him, too. I’d rather not give my mother nuclear bombs, and that means I’m going to have to speak to my father. Presumably, when I wake up, I’ll know how to do that. The guys won’t want me sacrificing myself and I’m nobody’s martyr. Please believe I’ll do what I have to do.”

“For the first time in your life, Melissa, I do.”

I disconnected the communication and clicked my wrist again. “Cooper,” I knew he’d be able to hear me even if he couldn’t answer. “I’ve got something to do on Ochoa. I’ll be at the memory retrieval machine in three hours. Have it done by then.”

He might have answered me except I cut off communication. If Cooper wasn’t going to like my aunt showing up to help me complete my plan, he was going to dislike what I needed to do next even more. I’d made a lot of mistakes. Huge ones. Big, horrible decisions, some I couldn’t undo. One of them was down on the surface.

She could be saved.
Royce, Rebecca. Rescued By Their Wife (Wings of Artemis Book 2) (Kindle Locations 484-510). Liquid Silver Publishing.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this one. Every time I thought okay, it’s gonna be okay now, well it wasn’t. I loved every single second of this read. From getting to know Cooper, to meeting his sister, to Mel’s Aunt and her witchy mother. Oh and all those sexy as hell husbands who turn the heat up to high!

Myla is beautiful, a dove with clipped wings, captive by the wolf, a vicious drug lord. One look into her eyes and Kyle could see the pain, the fear…the desperation. Or so it seems. He’s been fooled before by a woman and it cost him everything and everyone he loved. He won’t be fooled again.

Tall, dark, & deadly, these are the stories of the men who run Walker security. Each man is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

The Walker Security series is the continuation of the Tall Dark and Deadly series. Kyle works for the Walker brothers and they are working to take down Michael Alvarez a purveyor of drugs and human trafficking. A key reason for their involvement is the possibility that one of their operative’s (Kara) sister, Myla, may be alive and under his control. Kyle is going in undercover as a bodyguard to someone close to Alvarez. That someone turns out to be Myla.

Myla is scared of Alvarez and of what he would do to her sister Kara if she comes for her. She hasn’t tried to contact Kara since she is presumed dead. Now Alvarez has a plan that will let Kara know in an indirect way that Myla is alive. Myla is a talented designer and he is giving her the chance to design her own line. Of course it will be a money laundering operation but will it also be more.

A favorite scene is after Myla has a phone conversation with Alvarez.

Grinding my teeth, I set the phone on the nightstand, my stupid hand trembling as I do, but I do not let myself sit here, where I will think and destroy myself. I stand up, the towel falling to the floor, the cold air rushing over my skin, and I am naked in so many ways right now that it’s impossible to comprehend. Suddenly, I just need a shirt to put on. I need Kyle’s shirt, and I twist around, noting the suitcase on the other side of the bed, by the living area rushing in that direction. Rolling it away from the couch, I lay it down, and settle on my knees, unzipping it and flipping open the lid, but instead of clothes, I find that arsenal of guns Kyle mentioned.

Inhaling, I reach for one of them, welcoming the cold, steel comfort a weapon will surely deliver. I choose a big one that requires two hands, one worthy of killing Michael Alvarez, the weight blissful in my hands, against my belly.

“Holy Mother of Jesus,” Kyle says from the doorway, setting the cups in his hands on the desk, his eyes wide. “This is one of the most confusing, erotic, disturbing – did I mention erotic? – sights I’ve ever seen.”

Only then do I fully register the fact that I’m holding a gun with my naked breasts on full display, my teeth scraping my bottom lip. “I was looking for a shirt.”

“Understood,” he says. “I always confuse shirts and guns, too. I’ll get you a shirt.” He walks to the closet to the right of the door, disappearing inside.
Deep Under (Tall, Dark and Deadly) (Kindle Locations 2865-2876). Julie Patra Publishing. Kindle Edition.

A lot of frustration on both sides as Kyle tries to gain Myla’s trust while determining if she is loyal to Alvarez. Tense situations sprinkled with humor. With enough twists and turns to have you holding your breath as you turn the pages.

This book is a stunning ending to this series. As much as I hate to see it end.

With the destruction of one Bittech facility, Andrew has moved everyone who survived to a new higher security one. Before he takes up residence there he has one more thing to do, get his wife and children.

Melanie is livid, her only thought is to kill him. She doesn’t love him, she never did, but the shifter she loved broke her heart.

Wes left Melanie because of his bad blood. He didn’t want her tainted by his family’s reputation. Now he is drawn into a battle not only to keep Melanie and her boys safe but to save others as well.

This is a favorite scene after Mel escapes from her husband kind of with Wes’ help and her brother Daryl takes her to their mother’s.

Through the windshield, Melanie could see the aluminum door at the front hanging drunkenly, the thicker wooden one wide open. More terrifying of all was the sight of her mother wailing on the step, a hand held to her head, blood streaking through her fingers.

The hair on Melanie’s body hackled.

“Mama!” No sooner had the car skidded to a stop than both she and Daryl spilled out and ran to their mother. She couldn’t help but smell the lingering trace of something reptilian. Her heart raced a mile a minute, and she couldn’t stop a fluttery panic.

“What happened?” Daryl barked.

“I tried to stop it,” her mother wailed. “But the monster thing batted me aside as if I were nothing. Then he licked me.” A shudder went through her mother as she grimaced. “And I froze. I couldn’t move a muscle as that monster took the bambinos.”

“My boys? He took my boys?” Melanie’s voice pitched as the horror of what happened hit.

“I am so sorry. I couldn’t stop him. The lizard monster came and took them both.”

It took everything Melanie had not to shriek. But she couldn’t help grabbing her hair in two fists and pulling hard. She needed the pain to focus, anything to not think of what might happen to her precious babies.

Daryl knelt before their mother. “This creature, did he fly away with them? Run off? Do you know which way it went? Perhaps I can pick up its trail.”

A shake of her head and their mother explained. “I don’t think he did either. I heard an engine. Someone drove that thing here, and he took the bambinos.” Fresh tears and wails shook her mother’s body, and even though Melanie wanted to shake and curse and scream herself, instead, she wrapped the rotund body in her arms and rocked with her mothers. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

That bastard took my babies.

And she was going to get them back.

She just didn’t know how. No one did.
Gator’s Challenge (Bitten Point Book 4) (Kindle Locations 241-255). Kindle Edition.

Anger is the primary emotion for both Mel and Wes, more so when they find out the plans Andrew and Wes’ Uncle Parker have in store for them and the children.

A nail-biting read with lots of action to keep you turning the pages and scenes meant to melt the panties. A story that shows love, and the strength drawn from it, can indeed conquer all. I definitely got more than a few giggles out of the antics of the twins, and some conversations between Mel and Wes. But I got weepy too, love it when an author makes me cry.

In order to keep close to an alpha cowboy her boss wants protected, Knight agent Tara Lynch draws on her acting skills to play a scared schoolteacher who witnessed the murder of a hitman, and on her restraint to resist falling for the sexy cowboy.

Former SEAL Callahan ‘Rook’ Lawe agrees to help his old commander, but with his hands already full investigating accidents on his training ranch that put his brother in the hospital, his attraction to the beautiful woman is a distraction he doesn’t need.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

A little deception can go a long way to making or breaking a relationship. Assigned to help and protect Callahan “Rook” (a new member of the Knight Protection Agency) Tarah tries to keep much of her cover story the truth. She is a Knight operative but after killing a key player (a mobster’s son) she could be a target. So in a weird sense Rook and Tarah are protecting each other only Rook has no idea who she really is.

Rook’s brother Remy operates their training ranch and there have been suspicious incidents happening, one of which left Remy with a broken shoulder. After establishing her cover as a school teacher and Rook’s fiancé with a sizzling kiss, she uses the distraction of kittens to find out more about the accidents and the ranch. Anything else was going to be difficult because Rook slept outside her door. One of my favorite scenes is at breakfast the first morning.

Halfway through breakfast, Rook couldn’t put his finger on it, but something was up with Tarah.
Thirty minutes ago, when he’d returned to her room, he thought he’d heard her talking. When he asked her on their way downstairs, she told him she was on the phone with her brother. He didn’t get the sense she was lying, but he still couldn’t shake the feeling she was hiding something.

“So, Tarah, what grade did you teach?” Rook asked, cutting into a fresh stack of pancakes Burly set in front of him.

It wasn’t lost on him that she’d chosen to sit across from him. Right next to Remy.

She set her fork down and smiled. “Middle school English, so that’s sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.”

“Damn. Middle school in D.C.?” Remy whistled. “You’ve got a pair.”

She laughed. “Yes, except I wear mine on my chest.” Then she slapped a hand over her mouth and blushed.

Burly’s chuckle mixed with his brother’s bark of laughter. But all Rook could do was recall her chest that morning, and how she certainly had a pair of pert nipples he’d wanted to rip out of her dress and cover with his mouth.

She dropped her hand to the table, the pretty silver bracelet on her wrist clanging on contact. “Sorry, that slipped out.”

“You don’t have to apologize.” Burly patted her hand. “It’s been a long time since this house has heard laughter like that.”

She snickered. “The way my tongue runs away with itself, the house is going to be sick of me.”

Burly glanced at him when he replied. “I highly doubt that.”
Cowboy Justice 12-Pack (Kindle Locations 11562-1575).Kindle Edition.

Lots of fun watching Tarah and Rook trying not so very hard to stay unattached. All while trying to figure out who is causing sabotage and accidents on the ranch. These two just sizzle, but when the truth comes out… will they be able to make it.

It’s all my mother’s fault.

She read to me before I could read and opened up that magical world where I still reside today. Then came television and movies. Now I had three avenues that fed my imagination…and boy could I eat! As you no doubt figured out, this lead to my writing career. I’m a NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon Bestselling Award winng author. Phew, that was a mouthful! Multi-published in e-book and print with several publishers, I certainly have a ton of voices in my head.

I’m happily married to a military man for 28 years. We have four children and several rescued cats. Michael’s been in the Army National Guard since before he graduated. The Guard has been a part of our lives right from the start. It was only natural for the military to spill into my writing. God bless the military and their families. Thank you all for your sacrifices. ♥

You already know my mom inspired my love of reading, but it was my dad who got me hooked on movies. Even now, if I had the time, I could happily go from one movie to another all day long. They are the reason I love mixed genre and why I can’t just stick to just one in my writing, although, as you can tell, I have a soft spot for cowboys and the military.

Well, that’s about it. Thanks for getting to know me a little better. Remember, keep reading to your children. The journey you’re igniting is precious. And the next time you’re at the movies, turn around. I just might be the person sitting behind you. No, not the one throwing popcorn (it’s too expensive to waste). I’m the one already imagining the sequel.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!

As the quest for the Fortunate Buddha continues, Pietr finds himself in NY, following a lead. He has sworn he will never fall like his cousin Max, little does he know there is a fiesty Art History specialist about to rock his world.

When you have a bad day, you never expect it to get worse once you get home. Unfortunately Sophie’s did. To start her day she witnessed a murder but no one believes her. Of course there’s no body and no evidence of foul play anywhere. Then she arrives home to find a strange man (Pietr) in her living room. After a delightful (to the reader) conversation, she kicks him out but not before he gives her his card. but thinks better of it and as he requested agrees to meet him for a drink.  Selecting a close place she is comfortable in. Getting shot at there, followed immediately by a reported breakin at her apartment causes Pietr to get even more concerned and protective. This is one my favorite scenes after Lady Katherine has interrupted their 4 AM breakfast.

“What can I say? You make me want to be a bad boy. Shall I let you spank me?”

Heat speared her at the offer. She’d not let her hands drift down to where his shirt tucked into his pants, but now since he’d conjured the image, she wanted to.

“Sophie?” His voice deepened, his accent lilting the soft syllables of her name. The smile eased away from his lips, his expression sobering. “Lady Katherine and I are not now, nor have we ever, been lovers. I promise.”

Sophie stared silently, her heart popping at her ribs. Heat pooled in her stomach. He was a damn good-looking man, a fact he seemed well aware of. Charm practically swirled in the air around him. She’d liked holding him, too.

Pietr watched her, the embers of amusement dying in his eyes. “I am sorry if I offended you.” Utter sincerity coated each word, and Sophie tilted her head, considering.

“You know what I want?” She slid forward a step. Pietr went completely still, the playful schoolboy replaced by a very real, very desirable, and very gorgeous man. Sophie tipped her head back, letting some of the heat seep into her gaze. “Do you know what I really, really want?” she whispered.

“Yes?” He angled his head toward her, his gaze dropping from her eyes to her lips.

“Food.” Sophie winked and all but flounced to her chair.

“Et tu brute.” Pietr laughed. “Et tu.”
Treasure Me (Love Thieves #2) (Kindle Locations 830-857). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

All this is somehow related to her PhD. thesis research. To her it doesn’t make sense, but it does to Pietr and who ever else is looking for the Buddha.

A fun, suspenseful, keep you on your toes read. With a hot Frenchman that won’t stop trying to seduce his sexy museum worker.

I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if my memory was erased. Just know that would probably cause me not to trust anything or anyone. A wonderful form of brainwashing. Erase, re-teach the way you want the person to act. Just plain scary, even more scary is their photos were being put up in an auction type setting to be bid on.

In a twist of fate, Melissa’s husbands saw her on that site and rescued her. The problem is she doesn’t know who they are, but when she touches one of them they have a definite connection. As they go on a mission as the rebel faction they are, this new to them Melissa inadvertently puts them all in danger. Confronted by Nolan a lot of his pent up emotions take hold. This is one of my favorite scenes as Melisa acknowledges that these men are indeed her husbands.

“If that’s what you want, that’s what’ll happen.”

“Nolan…” Geoff grabbed his arm. “She doesn’t know, okay? You can’t take it the way you are, brother. You have to treat her like a stranger. She doesn’t know you.”

“I get what you’re saying.” His voice sounded calm and, in some ways, hearing him speak in a rational way made it worse than when he’d been yelling. I went cold. All I’d said was the truth. Why did it make me want to curl into a ball and disappear? “I hear what you’re all saying. Whatever happened, she’s still Melissa. She talks with her voice, looks through her eyes. And she’s done with me. So be it.”

He walked from the room, spine stiff and head high. No one moved. I wasn’t even sure I breathed. What had I said, exactly, to get that response?

I’d really had enough of this day. I was apparently a rebel princess—whatever that meant—and I couldn’t pull off denial any longer. Nolan’s strong reaction to me, as though he really knew me, and the way everything I said was so completely abhorrent to him, solidified what I should have figured out a lot sooner.

Enough was enough. I needed answers.

“Okay. So I’m obviously your wife, right?”

Four sets of gazes plowed into me, but no one spoke.

“I just think it’s stupid not to say it. I’m exhausted. Good night.”
Kidnapped By Her Husbands (Wings of Artemis Book 1) (Kindle Locations 1407-1418). Liquid Silver Books. Kindle Edition.

As she realizes her dreams are really her memories, and they visit places on the way to the Bridge where they have the machine to restore her memories, she finds she likes who she is now with her husbands, and really doesn’t want the other Melissa back.

Things are never simple no matter who or what you are. This story is a journey, a very hot and sexy get to know you all again journey.

I can’t wait to read Book 2.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

We first met Diesel in Bayou Wolf, he was following a scent. A scent he believed was his mate and that caused, shall I say, a bit of a stir. Now we get to see the Yukon Alpha on his own turf.

Ranae is a dominant and stubborn wolf. The little sister of the Buckley triplets, she got in big trouble in The Wolf Next Door. Because of that Mason had her apprenticing as a hunter. Now he has a real assignment for her, verify Diesel is still Alpha in the Yukon and deliver a message.

Ranae travels to the Yukon with Julian, the leader of the Enforcers. Unlike previous wolves journeys there, Ranae doesn’t end up waiting very long to meet with the elusive alpha. The reason for that is our first surprise in this book.

I did a lot of giggling at the exchanges between Diesel and Ranae. She certainly tries to be diplomatic…

Problems with the Russian wolves, leads us to more surprises and some juicy info on Julian. All while Diesel tries to claim his mate.

A favorite quote:

Snow Wolf quote

Much laughter and nail-biting throughout this intricately woven tale. Sprinkled with tears of sadness and joy plus OMG surprises. Be sure to read the excerpt, it is one of my favorite scenes in this book!

Excerpt Spring Blog - Copy

Riding the high of her nearness, Diesel leaned into the force of her hand on his chest. “I know my mate’s scent. I searched for you all over Willow Bend. Why else would Mason send you?” The moment the words left his lips, he reconsidered the phrasing. Her eyes narrowed and her nostrils flared.

“I’m a Hunter of Willow Bend. I am here to deliver a message from my Alpha—and I don’t care what century you were born in old man, but we don’t arrange matings. You don’t just get to walk in here, thump your chest and say mine.” The ferocious light in her eyes sent a quiet thrill through his bloodstream. His wolf roused to the hunt, every color and nuance sharpening under their study.

“No?” He didn’t want to miss a moment of her reaction. Her dilated pupils constricted even as her mouth tightened. Anger soured her scent and her nails bit into his muscle as he pressed into the contact. Despite a faint tremble, she didn’t shift her grip or attack him. Would she? If he provoked her enough? The idea intrigued the hell out of him. No Alpha wanted a weak mate.

“No.” She withdrew the contact then retreated one step. Crowding closer, he refused to let her abandon him. “Dude…get a grip. I came here to do a job.” A muscle in her jaw twitched. “Or maybe you are trying to prove you don’t hold the Yukon?”

Challenge wound through every syllable. Canting his head to the side, he raised one eyebrow and waited.

“What? Playing crazy, eccentric keeps the other packs at bay and allows you to dictate the terms of your interactions. You don’t want to talk; you walk away or slam a door. You want to shut me down; you declare I’m yours.” Folding her arms, Ranae raised her chin and, although the gold circle on around her gray-green irises faded, it didn’t diminish completely. “It won’t work and I’m really not interested in the games. We have serious issues to discuss with you, Alpha. You can get on board or be left behind to cope on your own should the Russian packs turn their gaze on your territory and your pack.”

Amusement curved through him. Passionate determination etched into her expression. “Our pack will be fine.”

“My pack will be, absolutely. Your pack is debatable.” The aggravation in her scent muted beneath the sting of frustration. “Now you’re baiting me.” Sidestepping him, she tried to put some distance between them. He allowed her three steps before intercepting her again. He wanted her gaze on him, nowhere else. “Seriously, you have a problem.”

“No, I have a mate, but continue telling me why our pack is in danger.”

Pausing, her lips tightened and her eyes narrowed. The curl of her fingers into a fist telegraphed her next move. Would she do it? He pressed into her space, and she rewarded his effort with fresh contact in the form of a blow. It caught him square above his heart, and the second with her elbow connected with his jaw. He accepted both blows, but refused to retreat.

“Your training is incomplete.” Whatever response she’d been expecting, his comment surprised her. “Otherwise you’d understand that two hits will not take down an enraged male, if you want to escape you have to incapacitate or kill.”

“I don’t want to fight you.”

“Wonderful. I have no desire to fight you, but if you need to beat on me to make yourself feel better, go right ahead. I’m very sturdy.”

The corner of her mouth kicked into an involuntary smile, and his breath lodged in his throat, the single glimpse of sweetness a better reward than he could have imagined. “Are you insane?”

“Depends on your definition of sanity.” The tangle of her hair contrasted with the wool of her pullover. How soft would the strands be? When she failed to respond, he reached out to test his theory. She slapped his hand away, and the sting intrigued him.

“Stop.” Command reverberated through the single syllable. “I came here as a messenger, nothing else. Keep your teeth and your hands to yourself. Am I clear?”

In all things, an Alpha could command. He could take a life. He could grant it. Wolves who pledged to an Alpha could be sent into the heart of danger and forfeit all that they owned. The heart, however, could not be commanded nor could he take what she would not willingly give.

His wolf bucked at the rejection, but Diesel withdrew three steps to give her space. Clasping his hands behind his back, he studied the beautiful Hunter before him. She would not tumble easily, nor would she accept his direct pledge. Very well, if he had to learn to court, then he would find what enticed her. “Dress,” he ordered. “Several layers. We will be leaving the guest quarters.”

Expecting obedience, he turned to the entrance and pressed the code to allow Julian entry.

“Are you staying with her or leaving?” Her presence was non-negotiable.

“Since you asked so nicely…” The Chief Enforcer’s expression barely shifted, yet a smirk echoed beneath his words. “I’d be happy to stay.”

Uninterested in the old wolf’s games, Diesel spared his mate another studying look. Ranae gaped at him, and she hadn’t moved a muscle.

“Trust me when I say it will be more comfortable if you get dressed, but if you insist on testing my patience, I’ll happily take care of stripping you first then dressing you.”

The taunt did what the order would not. She moved.

His wolf rose, stretching and raking his claws. Yes, they had the scent of this hunt.

When Alanna’s son Colt gets shot and ends up in the hospital where no wolf should ever be. His doctor is Bastian and she finds herself in a position she never expected. She couldn’t wipe his memory as she did with the others in the emergency room, so she put him to sleep and took him home. This is part of the conversation after he wakes and the one with Drew.

He dropped his shoulders. “I don’t understand the feelings you rise in me. I want to be angry with you, shake the truth out of you. Yet, I can’t bring myself to do it. Am I crazy? Maybe.”
“Promise me you won’t speak of this to anyone, and I’ll take you home in the morning.” Her Wolf paced and whimpered at the same time. Yeah, Alanna didn’t want him to leave either. But what kind of life could she offer him— even if he could accept her true nature? The heartache of a rejection would be too much for her to bare. The only option was to let him go and make sure he kept his promise.

“Yes, I promise.”

She sagged in relief. “I’m going to check on Cody and make a phone call.”

Hoping he would take the hint she wanted privacy, she made her way to Cody’s room and closed the door before pulling out her cell.

Drew answered on the first ring. “How’s Cody?”

Alanna glanced at her son and some of her tension eased. “He’s doing better.” She paused, searching for the words. “Bastian doesn’t know about us. He thinks I’m a witch.” “You let him believe that?” “Yes. He’s grandmother was one. To him it makes sense, I guess.” His heavy sigh sent a shiver down her spine. If she hurt lying to her mate, it was ten times worse lying to her Alpha. “I think he’s my mate.”

Silence filtered through the cell phone connection, soaring her stomach. She sat next to Cody and racked her fingers through his fur. “Drew, I’m sorry. I messed up, but I freaked… I….”

He let out a low growl. “The human is your responsibility. Mate or no mate. Are we clear?”

“Yes.”

“Get some rest, Alanna. Keep me posted on how Cody is doing.”

“I will.” She ended the call and studied Cody, hoping he’d wake soon and be able to tell her who shot him. All the while figuring out what she would do able Bastian. One thing was for sure, she couldn’t ignore the urge to mate. She had to know one way or another. Even if it meant living the rest of her life with a broken heart if he rejected her.
Tempting the Wolf (Black Hills Wolves Book 13) (Kindle Location 281-299). Decadent Publishing.

More than immediately meets the eye here. Bastian is in danger and so is Alanna because of the identity of Cody’s shooter.

A quick satisfying read, with some steamy sex and fur flying fights.

I spent a lot of time giggling in this book, a few tears and quite a bit of nail-biting.  A couple of OMG moments as these books are known to bring out. Between the Russians, Julian and Ranae herself, Diesel really had to work hard for this mating.

Rule: A real man always puts his best foot forward…
Zeke always planned to steal her heart, but she left him on base. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and Charity is up to bat. Can she tell her two-all stars the truth or will a foul end her best chance?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

I want to thank Heather Long for giving me her novella in this wonderful collection to review.

Zeke has no idea of the surprises awaiting him as he travels home for the first time in 8 years. He hadn’t gone before because he couldn’t bear to see the love of his life with someone else.

Charity lied all those years ago, lied so Zeke wouldn’t give up his dreams. She’d been making decisions for everyone now it’s time to come clean. The truth is going to hurt but she finds she can’t continue living the lie.

All things considered Zeke handles the declaration quite well, and as they continue to get to know each other as a family the bonds from the past surface. A favorite scene is after Charity and Andie take a day to be with Zeke and Andie is asleep.
“Adulting is hard,” she admitted.

His devastating dimple appeared as his cheeks creased. “Adulting, eh? Is that what we’re doing?”

The tension holding her captive burst, and she laughed. “Yes, it’s what we’re supposed to be doing.” After all, she’d admitted a long deception, which kept him from his child and tried to find a way to fold him into her daughter’s life. “I mean, we’ve handled everything with maturity, right?” Did she want confirmation that they were simply two parents stumbling into the direction of working together or did she want him to deny her charge and…

“Sometimes you think too much.” The drawled observation didn’t carry a tone of insult, but at the same time…

“Sometimes I don’t think everything through,” she admitted. “Like the inherent danger in kissing you.”

Nostrils flaring ever so slightly, he turned his sharp arresting gaze from her lips to her eyes. Raw passion scorched her. “What are you afraid of?”

“I think a better question would be what am I not afraid of?” Eight years ago, she would rather have melted into a puddle than admit her fears. That was then, she reminded herself. “We’re not in high school anymore, Zeke.”

“No,” he agreed, too easily. “We’re not.”

“Any attraction we’re feeling…it’s normal. We know each other so well.” Then she amended hastily. “I mean we knew each other well.”

“Yes, to both. Though I like to think we still do… You’re still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known.” The creases in his cheeks reappeared. “More beautiful now than then…and smart, determined, funny.”
Hometown Heartbreaker. Heartbreakers & Heroes (Kindle Locations 9882-9897). Kindle Edition.

There is a lot of emotion in this book, a lot of things to be said and acted upon. I truly enjoyed this sort of second chance tale.
