Lauren Schneider has been hiding from the Russians for six months. She’s stir crazy and finds it difficult to believe anyone is still hunting her. After all, the leader of the mob, Anton Yenin, who had her kidnapped in the first place, is behind bars. Why would he continue to pine over her? And then there’s Dmitry. That man is smoking hot…with his shaved head, tattooed arms, and bulging muscles. If he doesn’t make a move for her soon, she will self-combust.

Dmitry Volikov is a member of Anton Yenin’s stable of fighters. However, he secretly rescued Lauren from the Russians and has done everything in his power to keep her sequestered and therefore safe. His motives aren’t purely altruistic. He’s been in love with the gorgeous Lauren for over half a year. He and his partner, Mikhail, work hard at construction sites during the day, still managing to work out and fight for the underground MMA circuit on Friday nights. They’re supporting not only Lauren, but Mikhail’s sister, Alena.

Lauren is done hiding. When she sneaks out and gets a job at a local bar, Dmitry becomes frantic worrying about her safety—and by default his. If anyone finds her, she’s dead. If anyone finds her with him, they’re both dead. But Lauren is hard-headed. There’s no stopping her. Even their bourgeoning steamy relationship isn’t enough to keep her from defying logic. In the bedroom, she enjoys Dmitry’s dominant ways, but when it comes to the rest of her life, she’s hell on wheels.

Time is running out. Yenin won’t be in jail much longer. When he’s released, there’s little doubt he’ll round up his fighters. Paranoia sets in for both Dmitry and Lauren. Anyone could be following them. Or maybe they’re being ridiculously cautious. In any case, Dmitry is facing the fight of his life. He can’t leave Lauren at home, and she’s a moving target in the crowded underground venue. He has no choice but to rely on his close friends to keep her safe during the fight. When all hell breaks loose, will it destroy their world?

This book was a gift in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I’m going to start by saying WOW! There is a lot going on in this book.

Lauren had been sucked in to this Russian mafia world and longed to be free. Instead she was kidnapped and then rescued by Dmitry. For a lot of the time since they fled to Chicago she has been teaching Mikhail’s sister Alena English. A quick learner she is now pretty fluent and Lauren is bored. Feeling trapped and bored as well as a burden, she sneaks out to get a job. Totally unaware of the danger she is putting all of them in.

Dmitry has been keeping her safe at least in his mind he is doing the right thing. His dominance is pretty overwhelming. What he thinks is best for her isn’t registering the way he means it. This is both culture differences and Lauren’s stubborn streak.

A favorite scene after she gives him a piece of her mind over his objections to her getting a job and plans to move out.

Shit. She had him under a spell. It wasn’t a surprise. He’d been living on borrowed time since the day he took her from that cabin outside Vegas. Sooner, actually. If he were honest, he’d have to admit, at least to himself, he fell in love with her weeks before that day.

“You’re exquisite. The sexiest woman I’ve ever seen.” He stepped closer, released one hand, and lifted his palm to cup her breast.

Lauren gasped at the contact, but instead of stepping away from his touch, she arched into his hand.

He groaned.

“Why?” Her voice was so small, he almost didn’t hear her.

Finally, he flicked his thumb over her nipple, loving the way she responded to him, and forced himself to lower his hand before he lost all control. He was like a teenage boy, probably even drooling. And with good reason. He’d been celibate as long as she had. His cock was in such a state of denial, it pressed against his jeans, pleading for release from its prison.

He’d had plenty of opportunity to fuck anyone he wanted over the months, but he wanted Lauren, not some piece of ass in a bar. No one compared to her. And so he’d lived with the self-imposed denial.

“Why, Dmitry?” she repeated.

He met her gaze. He owed her this. “Because you were hurting. The last thing you needed was another Russian asshole trying to get in your pants.”

“What if that was what I wanted? Did you ever stop to consider that?”

He shook his head briskly. “Didn’t matter. It wasn’t the right time. There was no way in hell either of us could have known what was real if I’d taken advantage of you when we first arrived here. I didn’t rescue you so I could fuck you, Lauren. I did it so you could have a chance at life.

“You were abused— emotionally, sexually, and physically.” He winced, hating saying those words out loud. But they were true.

“It wasn’t quite as bad as you make it out to be,” she muttered, another shiver rushing down her body. She stepped back, tugging on the hand he still held.

She stopped, sucking in a deep breath.

“Please,” he added. “Let me look. I’ve waited so long to see you.”

“You made me feel like the least desirable woman on the planet.”

He nodded. “I’m sorry. It was my method of self-preservation. self-preservation. I told myself if I managed to keep you completely covered in baggy clothes and gave you very little makeup or hair accessories, you would somehow be less attractive to me, and I could manage to occupy the same air you breathed without slamming you into a wall and fucking you.”
Becca Jameson. Force (Kindle Locations 425-449). Hartwood Publishing.

I love the way he shows her true dominance in the bedroom and the way they fight. I was scared for both of them, this is a nail-biter. The guys are being watched by people hired by Anton Yenin’s men and don’t know it. Lots of suspense and curiosity about the lab that Yenin has in Vegas. I couldn’t stop reading. Fortunately the second book is out today!

Gillian Whitford, darling of Willow Bend, brings out the protective instincts in all the dominants, but none more so than Owen Chase, the pack’s Hunter. A loner by nature and calling, Owen spends less time with his pack mates and more time on the borders of their land. Not even the change in the Alpha and the swearing of a new oath kept him around long.

Winds of change still drift through Willow Bend as they adjust to their new Alpha. When the Hudson River pack requests a fill-in healer to replace their own, Gillian, journeymen apprentice to their Pack healer, is the obvious choice to help. Owen forbids her to accept, but the sweet natured wolf rebukes his selfishness and volunteers anyway.

Risking a challenge, Owen faces off against his Alpha to appeal her decision and finds himself charged with her safety. Now, the loner will be escorting one of his pack’s most precious into foreign lands. He’s all that stands between her and a dozen potential threats…and if he doesn’t stake his claim, he may lose more than his heart.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

One of my absolute favorites in this series. Wolf Claim focuses on Owen and Gillian but also introduces the Hudson River pack and it’s Alpha Brett.

Gillian is a Healer Apprentice but believe me when I say she is no longer an apprentice. Gillian is unique in that she can heal both humans and wolves, a secret well guarded by everyone. She is more than a little attracted to Owen, one of Mason’s top hunters, but he doesn’t seem to get it.

Owen is just a bit protective of Gillian. When Mason proposes to send her to help Brett the Hudson River Alpha with the mystery of wolves dying, he definitely lost his cool. He doesn’t want Gillian going away into an unknown problem. Little did he know Mason intended to send him with her all along. *Sigh* Men!!

The mystery behind the deaths is elusive and while they try to figure it out Brett’s attraction to Gillian grows. This is one of my favorite scenes.

“I think it’s only fair that we’re clear on one subject before she rejoins us.” Brett said, reminding Owen he still stood there.

“And that would be?”

“I have every intention of claiming that beautiful wolf if you don’t.”

With a jerk, Owen faced him. “Excuse me?”

“No,” Brett said, his expression unreadable. “I don’t think I will. She’s a fine wolf, perhaps the finest I’ve ever met, and I’ve known her less than a day. Consider yourself warned.”

Gillian trotted up in that moment and rubbed against Owen’s leg. He dropped his hand to stroke her head automatically. His gaze still locked with Brett’s, Owen didn’t disguise his rising wolf.

Alpha and confident, the other wolf didn’t flinch away. He’d made his desire plain and clear both wolf-to-wolf and man-to-man. He could want Gillian all he liked.

No way in hell would Owen let him have her.

Challenge accepted.
Long, Heather. Wolf Claim (Wolves of Willow Bend Book 3) (pp. 113-114). Kindle Edition.

Needless to say there is a lot of tension. As they figure out the what, the question becomes who. Not exactly a comfortable position for anyone to be in. Brett can only trust Gillian and Owen and that is felt throughout his pack.

I loved this nail-biting, hold your breath tale. It gives a whole new dimension to the Wolves of Willow Bend Series.

From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories–her characters drive the books.

When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
