While tracking a wolf from Georgia to South Dakota, wildlife biologist, Isabelle Acker, meets sexy park ranger, Wyatt Powell. His Wolf sits up and takes notice of her, but when he learns why she came to the park, he becomes wary of her intentions. After all, as far as the general population knows, there are no wolves in the Black Hills.

Ordered by his Alpha to keep an eye on the smoking-hot biologist, Wyatt finds it difficult to keep his hands to himself. He wants to possess her, to share everything about his life, but that might endanger the Tao Pack. But the attraction proves too great and, unable to deny his Wolf, he takes her with a passion he didn’t know he possessed.

However, their sexual bliss is short-lived, and on the night of the full moon, more than one secret is revealed. When all is said and done, they must each decide—is what they have between them true love or just hot sex?

Summer My Review

One of the things I love about the Black Hills Wolves is that every author involved has their own take on it. They have the structure and the primary Characters and they can choose to included them or not. We usually see at least a peak at Drew, Ryker or Gee as well.

In this book we meet park ranger Wyatt who is a wolf and a curious biologist Isabelle who has been tracking a wolf all the way from Georgia. Now we all know “ahem” there are no wolves in the Black Hills. However she is certain the wolf came here. Ordered to keep her from discovering the pack Wyatt arranges for some mishaps to chase her on her way. This is a favorite scene one of the many little things that happen to our unsuspecting doctor.
The ground shook from the force of galloping hooves while limbs snapped and cracked as debris fell from the trees. Many of the lower branches were pulled off in the animals’ haste to get by.

Damn twins.

Drew said to make Isabelle’s stay uncomfortable, not attempt to kill her. He couldn’t imagine how they’d managed to drive the herd through this narrow spot, but he planned to have words with them later.

As soon as the herd had passed and he believed it to be safe, Wyatt leaned back and looked down at the tiny woman in his arms. She hadn’t panicked and, even now, only appeared somewhat shaken. “Are you okay?”

Her eyes were a bit dazed. “I, uh….” She licked her lips. “Yeah. I think so.” The sight of her pink tongue sliding across her lips captivated him. consequences, he slowly lowered his head and touched his mouth to hers. Tasting. Testing.
Your Wild Heart (Black Hills Wolves Book 14) (Kindle Locations 313-321). Decadent Publishing.

This begins a very hot very intense relationship between the two of them. Isabelle is quite stubborn and refuses to be chased away by the unexpected. I loved the verbal sparring between these two.

Lots of laughter, some hold your breath moments and lots of sizzling sex made this read hard to put down.

Summer Blurb

When the spirit fever struck a town, a village or an outpost, it left few if any survivors. The white man blamed the Indian saying they used their mojo on them. The Indians blamed the white man for angering the spirits. The survivors knew it didn’t matter. The Fevered were forever changed.

A gift he needs to tame…

Kid feels what the world around him feels, he is a raw, bleeding nerve, and he can’t control the pain anymore. After lashing out at everyone he loves, he agrees to an exile atop Quanto’s mountain to learn to control the power he wields. Desperate to end it, Kid battles with Wyatt the eldest Morning Star—hoping against hope that the man will kill him. He longs only for peace…

A gift she wants to harness…

Evelyn Lang grew up with a territorial judge for a father, and a secret—her father’s Fevered ability passed to her. When he’s killed in broad daylight in a little town in Kansas after freeing a slave, Lang is no longer bound by her father’s oath to never use her ability—now she must train it. She travels across hostile territory in search of the man who trained her father. She longs only for vengeance…

Tempestuous passions, opposing needs, and impulsive decisions divide them…

Conflicting goals put Kid and Evelyn in direct opposition. Her hunger for justice cuts him, but Quanto refuses his requests to train alone. Forced to train together, they must confront their deepest fears if they are ever to achieve their greatest desire….

His pain. Her obsession. Their battle.

Summer My Review

As this family saga continues, Kid travels to the mountain home of Quanto with Wyatt. He really wants Wyatt to kill him to end his suffering, but Wyatt instead helps him to see his inner self and in a strange way a bond of friendship forms. None of these gifts are easy to manage and under the tutelage of Quanto he begins to gain control in a healthier manner than he used previously. As he struggles and starts to make progress, he also feels a need to get away so he saddles up to take a sojourn to a town and maybe find a willing woman. Instead he finds an injured woman, a dead wild cat and a horse from the Flying K ranch. Oh and Wyatt comes in pursuit.

Evelyn has come to the mountain to learn to control her gift, she needs control to get revenge. She needs to find and kill the men who murdered her father. Before giving her an answer as to whether he would help her, Quanto orders her to bathe, and assigns Kid to watch over her. This is one of my favorite scenes.
A splash of water echoed in the chamber. Had she shrugged? Had her breasts lifted out of the steaming water? Were her nipples hard? Would he die from his balls swelling so uncomfortably? “I’m sorry, I think I’m more tired than I thought I was…”

He almost turned at the weariness in her voice. “Do you need help?”

“No, not yet, I don’t think.”

Oh hell, that means she might need me to walk over there and help her get out of the water…

“Okay. You can call me William. I promise I’ll try to answer.”

She laughed, a quick, fierce little sound and as beautiful as she. “You’re humoring me.”

“No ma’am, I just think you should focus on not drowning and not worry so much about my name. It’s just a name.”

Another laugh and even the images of gelding weren’t helping. If she didn’t finish soon and get dressed, he might have to go throw himself in the snow. Or shoot himself in the leg.

“Well, I think William is a fine name.”

It sure as hell sounded fine when she said it. “Thank you, ma’am.”

“You can call me Evelyn, if you like.” She exhaled a long breath and continued before he could respond. “This feels good, but it’s making me sleepy. I’m going to climb out— Wyatt said there were clothes out here.”

Oh. Clothes. He swallowed and glanced to his right to the cupboard. He’d have to pick them out and walk them over to her. Side stepping stiffly, he pulled open the cabinet doors and glanced at the contents. Scarlett’s clothes were at the top as were some dry bathing sheets. He pulled out two of the heavier ones and a couple of shirts, a pair of britches…

Undergarments.

His mouth went dry and he grabbed a handful without looking at them.

“Carrying them back to you.” He backed up. It was only five steps from the cabinet to the first pool. The sound of water cascading tortured him, but he held out the toweling sheets first. Her damp fingers brushed his hand as she took them. The caress lit him up.

“Thank you.” Cloth rasped over skin and he stayed right where he was, drilling holes into the walls with his gaze. “Clothing?”

He held it out blindly and she took the stacks. Praying she could manage all of it, he remained in place. More rasping of fabric, and then a tired sigh.

“Done.”

Daring a glance sideways, he was prepared to jerk his gaze away if she hadn’t meant done, done, but she was dressed and looked deliciously bedraggled with her long blond hair hanging damply around her face. Even the fatigue smudging her eyes didn’t diminish her beauty. “Can you walk back? Or would you like me to carry you?” And he honestly didn’t know which answer he preferred to hear.
Long, Heather. Raising Kane (Fevered Hearts #5) (pp. 177-179). . Kindle Edition.

Quanto demands they train together and their protests go unanswered as they undergo the training. Evelyn and Kid do some dancing of their own and I truly enjoyed every minute of Kid’s not pursuit. When Evelyn uses Mariska’s trick causing all of them to sleep deeply so she could follow her own agenda, I knew Kid would follow.

The Kanes and the fevered all contribute in one way or another to this story. Passion flares hotly and new dangerous gifts appear within the ranks of the fevered children. I can’t stop reading this series, each book draws me deeper into the conflicts and the stories of each character.

Summer My Review

This story starts off with a bang. Under the noses of her ATF team Harper Tambini is taken by Carlos Narváez the head of one of the drug running Cartels. Carlos’ Secundo Rafe is taken by surprise but follows orders to take her to the Narváez compound.

Unknown to Harper, Rafe is CIA and has been undercover for a long time keeping watch on his one time friend. He knows Carlos is becoming more paranoid and using his own product more and more. This scares him especially since he doesn’t know why Harper was taken. He contacts his agency and plans for her extraction and his own.

This is a favorite scene as Rafe wakes Harper after a call with his CIA boss.
Harper stirred. He crept to the bed and bent to shake her shoulder to awaken her.

She grabbed his arm and flipped him onto the bed face down, arms locked behind his back. She held a steak knife to his throat. His legs splayed, and her knee nudged his crotch.

“Harper,” he choked out in English, “I’m CIA. I’m one of the good guys. Let me up.”

She held her position, “You’re very high ranking in this organization to be CIA. How long have you been under cover?” She kept her face close to his and spoke in undertones.

Good. She wasn’t going to immediately blow his cover. “I started at the top. Narváez and I were college roommates. Now can you get off me?”

His heart beat rapidly for what seemed like forever. The cold steel at his throat didn’t quiver. He heard her sigh and the pressure of her leg at his crotch ease. She finally removed the knife from his throat and slid off his back.

I’d hoped someone was inside, but I didn’t think it was you.” She moved quickly away from him and braced herself on her knees, the knife still held in fighting position.

Rafe rolled onto his back and sat up. He rubbed where the blade had pressed, thankful not to feel any blood on his neck. “You’re good. I never saw you steal this from the supper table.” He glanced at the satisfied look on her face.

“Yes, I am good. The hardest part was to find some place under that dress that it wouldn’t imprint. Teh last thing I wanted was Narváez to strip-search me at the supper table.” She shuddered.
Explosive Combination. Locations 970-983.Kindle Edition.

As we know the best plans always go awry so, Rafe and Harper proceed to plan B or is it C through the jungle. A tense action packed story as they work their way through not only the jungle but also the attraction to one another.  Topped off with explosive (pun intended) sex.

Summer My Review

In this the prequel to the Boomers series, we meet our primary characters in an interesting manner. Michael Hunter has a mission. A mission to kill Aurora Graystone. When the time comes this hunter who never, ever misses does miss his target.Rory knows she’s being followed, she plans to corner and capture said stalker. That said, when he shoots at her all bets are off and they end up fighting and well… more, on the rooftop where he is packing up. This is a favorite scene.

“Done?” He touched his lips to her ear, stealing the smallest taste of her flesh. Her tender skin tasted of schnapps and cool malt, both decadent and sweet.

“Nope.”

He barely had time to register the word when her head snapped hard to the right, slamming into his nose. Stars spiraled across his vision, dizzying pain dousing the savage need clawing inside his skin. Her palms struck down, breaking his hold and she twisted, her hand closing over his erection, fisting it tight as they landed against the rooftop.

“Now, who are you again?” she asked, the whisper of her words tantalizing him. He could smell the hint of coffee on her breath. For some strange reason, he was glad she’d at least gotten a swallow of the drink she worshipped. He fought the urge of his hips to buck into her grip. She needed only twist and he would be racked with masculine agony.

Despite the inherent danger, he couldn’t ignore the blue-violent eyes searching his or the sweet, voluptuous lips hovering deliciously near his face. The corona of sunlight turned her blue-black hair into liquid velvet. Her body pressed into his, a tender, feather-soft weight composed of sensuous lines, lovingly curved.

A damn near perfect fit to his larger, broader frame.

Perfect.

Too perfect.

Her fist tightened, reminding him of the precarious position of his manhood, but his cock merely flexed, enjoying the attention.

“I’m waiting.” Her voice was low.

So am I.

He didn’t know who was more startled when his hands came up to her hair and yanked that sexy, little mouth to his. He brought up his knees, clamping her hips and locking her to his body. Her lips were soft, softer than he imagined. He slanted his head, inhaling her breath.

He expected a protest, but a tiny slip of her tongue against the hard line of his mouth had him opening fully, meeting her tongue with a strike of his own. He sampled her sweetness, the faintly bitter Arabica, the teasing suggestion of minty toothpaste and just a dash of cinnamon from the sticky buns he’d scented on any number of corners throughout the city.

Her fingers tightened on his cock, spiking pleasure not pain as she stroked him through the trousers. The rooftop faded under the enticement of her lips. He released her mouth for a breath and saw the confusion clouding her eyes, but greedy for another taste of her mouth he refused to answer it. He tugged her hair, pulling her back to him. She stiffened, her upper body arching as her mouth turned into a silent O.
Yesterday’s Heroes (Kindle Locations 215-236). Carina Press. Kindle Edition.

Unfortunately, Garrett, one of the other Boomers shot her with a poison. All hell breaks loose as Michael threatens his team mate and friend in order to save Rory’s life.

All Michael can think about is Rory and how much he desires her and needs to protect her. From everyone except himself. All of which goes against the initial mission, to kill her in order to draw her father, the elusive Hans Geiger, out of hiding.

An intrigue weave of events as we meet all of the Boomers, learning about where they are from, their missions and the chips they have implanted. Summer My Review

I am loving this world. You enter with a skeleton key. The way you obtain said key is varied. One thing appears to be certain you must accept and use it willingly. In this story two brothers Aurelian and Nolan are vying for the throne of the Unseelie Court. However in order to prove themselves worthy they feel they need an Army. The type of Army is the difference between the two brothers. In order to create the army they need the cooperation of a halfling. Since most if not all halflings live in the human realm they would first need the key and then locate her.

Aurelian is ahead in this game he has the key and knows where to to find her.

Evvie is the halfling and she is drawn into this game. Scared confused and glad to see Ian, she is slowly informed of where she is and why. Unfortunately for her no one and I mean no one is being completely honest with her. Here is one of my favorites scenes where Nolan sort of tells her the truth.
“H— he told me that I was the key. That I had to choose between you and him. That my decision would decide who would be the next King.” Evvie dropped her eyes as embarrassment continued to flood her cheeks. Nolan was handsome, but in a different way than Aurelian, he was also nice… maybe nicer. She was glad she hadn’t made a hasty decision.

It’s always better to take your time and weigh the odds, right? Especially if they were going to affect my future… but how could anything in the fae world affect me?

She frowned. They would let her go home after she’d made the decision… wouldn’t they?

Nolan stepped closer, his fingers trailing along her neck and over her shoulder.

“That is all he told you? I’m surprised he wasn’t more forthcoming about what your decision would cost you.”

“Cost me? What do you mean? He just said that I had to decide and that it would affect me… he didn’t say it would cost me anything.” Her gaze shot up to meet his. Nolan was too close for her comfort, becoming almost predatory. She turned from him to face the window again.

“You will have to decide— that much is true— but he failed to tell you about the army.” His voice trailed off on the last word.

“Army?” She echoed.

“Yes, you are the key to the creation of the most powerful army. Whichever you decide will cost something from you.”

She shuddered, “What will it cost me?”

A cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

“One of us needs your blood and the other,” his hand slipped up her arm and rested above her heart. “The other requires your heart.”
Army Of The Winter Court (Skeleton Key) (pp. 114-115). Sapphire Press. Kindle Edition.

As the story progressed I found myself holding my breath hoping she chooses wisely. Only to be surprised by a stunning turn of events.

Summer Exerpt

He sat silently. She forced herself to eat three bites of the salmon in quick succession, followed by a forkful of the steamed spinach and grilled zucchini. Her lack of appetite did not do the meal justice, but her audience forced her to play the part. Their air of civility wore on her. She’d rather be curled up, snacking on her dinner in bed and watching the latest movies she’d missed thanks to the whirlwind schedule she’d been maintaining.

But, no. She sat at a table with a perfectly respectable, smoking-hot- should-be- licked- often stranger. Damn her father.

Hell, if her father hadn’t sent him, she could have indulged in one of those carnal impulses which used to land her in the scandal rags during her university years. When the heat in her body continued to spread, warming her cheeks and breasts, she reached for the wine again. Maybe a glass or three would knock the temperature off her libido.

“You seem very relaxed, considering our present circumstances.” He sounded almost curious.

“I’m used to it.” She sighed and ran her tongue along her teeth, hoping no bits of veggie were embarrassing her. “Unfortunately.”

“Well, if you’re used to it, maybe you should consider a change in careers.” The odd comment, coupled with his pursed lips, dragged her attention away from her raging hormones to stare at him again. He watched her with no attempt to disguise the shrewd predator in his eyes. A fresh wave of awareness rolled over her.

He wasn’t any ordinary businessman, and his attempts at vanilla engagement, from his relaxed dress to his mannerisms, couldn’t disguise the difference anymore. Something far more dangerous than an unwanted matchmaking attempt lurked in his gaze.

Intrigue and wariness clashed inside.

“Why would I change careers? I’m destined to inherit the entire organization. I have to know how it works from top to bottom. Or are you one of those men who thinks marrying me will be your key to the executive office, and I’ll be at home hosting tea while popping out the requisite heirs?”

Jarod tugged his ear and set his utensils down. “Kit Kat, what the hell are you talking about?”

“My father, Mr. Parker. And stop calling me by that horrid nickname.” Irritation rose to the top of her desire and flamed. “I asked you to call me Katherine.”

“No. You told me to. I prefer Kit Kat. It suits your mercurial moods. What does your father have to do with my being on this plane?”

“Everything.” She leaned forward. “Miles told me Daddy sent you to the meeting and here. I am used to my father’s matchmaking—although he’s generally a great deal subtler than this. I suppose my birthday last month and the engagements of several of his associates’ children has him thinking.”

“Miles told you I’m here as a—”

“Seriously, Mr. Parker? A stud service. Yes, my father sent you to stand stud for his recalcitrant princess who will not settle down. Granted, you’re an exceptionally fine specimen, but I have no desire to wear the reins which undoubtedly go with your promising physique.”

Jarod’s mouth opened briefly then snapped shut. To her amazement—and ire—he started to laugh.

“What’s so funny?”

“You’re not mad your father might have sent me, Kit Kat. You’re mad you wanted me, and now you think you can’t have me.”

SummerSm Blurb

Gibson Barton knows his Pack is on the verge of something they will never be able to prepare for: a chance at freedom. Yet when he’s finally able to open his eyes to what might be his fate, it could be too late.

As a submissive wolf of her Pack, Mandy Calhoun has always only watched Gibson from afar. Because of her fears, she hasn’t let her intentions toward him—or the other in her sights—be known.

Oliver Dare is the Foreseer of the Ursine Pack, and knows with each vision, his death is that much closer. Yet he cannot see his own future—or that of the two wolves who have been thrust into his path.

There is danger lurking in the den, and as the three learn to process their emotions and navigate their temptations, they’ll have to fight for something they never knew they had—or sacrifice it all for a purpose far greater than their own destinies.

SummerSm Review

As this series continues, change is on the horizon. Everyone can feel it, a tension in the air. With the inclusion of the Bears there is even less room for the packs within the compound. With that said, the inclusion of another pack also increases the chances of others finding mates.

Mandy is a submissive wolf, but she is much stronger than she thinks. She has been a little more than in love with Gibson for a long time. Yet she doesn’t approach him, she just hangs with her friend Theo. Unfortunately Theo thinks he could be her mate.

After an attack on Gibson, Mandy has had enough of hiding her feelings, not only for him but for Oliver as well. This is one of my favorite scenes.
He set the muffins on the small, beaten-up table in his kitchen as Mandy and Gibson each took a chair.

He sat down as well, the awkwardness of the situation settling over his skin.

“So…”

“So…” Gibson repeated.

Mandy let out a breath and rolled back her shoulders. “So… yeah. I had a nightmare. I don’t know what it was actually. It was dark, and there was growling, and it scared me. So I came here.” She blushed. “I don’t know why I came here instead of going to Ariel or Theo, but I did.”

At the sound of Theo’s name, Gibson let out a growl, surprising the three of them.

“Theo’s just my friend,” Mandy said softly. “That’s all he ever was.”
Gibson blinked. “I thought he was going to be your mate.”

She shook her head, and Oliver watched Gibson’s shoulders relax. “He wanted more, but I never would have mated him.” She scrunched her nose. “Well, I might have later on if my wolf finally gave in, but she wanted… wants someone else.” She sighed. “I wanted someone else. Still do.”
Oliver froze, as did Gibson. The sound of the coffee percolating filled the silence and they waited for Mandy to finish.

“This isn’t easy you know,” Mandy grumbled. “I’m not used to being so open and forward, and you two sitting there all growly and intimidating isn’t helping.”

Oliver smiled softly at that. “We’re not growling right now.”

She raised a brow and pointed at Gibson. “He growled.”

The other man held up his hands. “Yeah, I’m a wolf. I do that. He’s a bear, he tends to grumble and huff more than growl.”

Oliver snorted. “True. And don’t forget the roaring.”

Mandy smiled as he hoped she would and appeared to relax somewhat. “Anyway, I’m going to be an idiot and say something I probably shouldn’t. But you know what? We’re living in a time where things are all up in the air, and I might as well just go for it. Because waiting isn’t helping anyone, and I’m kind of freaking myself out over the whole thing.”

She paused, met both of their gazes. “My wolf wants you both. There. I said it.”
Buried and Shadowed (Kindle Location 654-675).

This begins a relationship that tugs at my heart. Even as others try to destroy it, there is strength in the bond.

With attacks coming from within the compound as opposed to the norm of the outside and SAU, the packs investigate and what they find is both alarming and heartbreaking.

This is a fast paced, intriguing, suspenseful read. With an emotional heat filled mating. I loved every second of it. You may need some tissues with this one.

Sinclair, Alpha of the Unseen Pack, is determined to destroy the Shifter Accommodation Unit. He understands that his people will never be free until the truth is revealed and their enemies are brought out of the shadows and exposed to the public. Unfortunately, the human female who has been secretly working with him has disappeared, and his priorities must shift slightly. He’s resolved to track her down, and not just because she has the information he needs.

Mira Reese isn’t stupid. She’s painfully aware that the sexy shifter she’s been working with has been using her fascination for him to gain access to the CDC computer system. But that doesn’t stop her from helping Sinclair. Not when it allows her to be close to him. But after the CDC kidnaps her, she realizes that this isn’t a game. She’s a potential savior for the future of the shifters—and perhaps especially the loner wolf who stirs her passions.

SummerSm Review

Ah the mysterious Sinclair, how I love him. He has been out and about fighting for the shifters from the beginning. Now we get an up close look at him and how he’s been doing what he’s doing.

As the time comes to blow the cover on the SAU and how it came to be, the stakes are higher and more deadly than ever. A key piece the Doctor who developed the virus to begin with and where he is hiding. Mira has been looking for him everywhere she can, and as a result has been taken by the SAU. Sinclair has to find her and get her safe for more than one reason. Here is a favorite scene after he takes her from enemy clutches.

“My past means that I don’t have the best interpersonal skills,” he stated the obvious. “And I have even less insight into my emotions.”

“You’re a male.” She shrugged. “None of you have any insights.”

“Ouch.” He pressed her hand to the center of his chest. “A direct hit.”

She turned her head away. Almost as if she thought she could hide her hurt from him. It was obvious she had a lot to learn about shifters.

He could smell her each and every emotion.

At the moment, her luscious scent was a mixture of spring flowers, burnt toast, and a lingering feminine desire she couldn’t disguise.

“You really don’t have to say anything else,” she said.

“I do.” He resisted the urge to tug her into his lap and wrap her tightly in his arms. First, he had to undo the damage he’d caused. Only then could she trust him. “Initially, my intention was to seek you out and earn your trust so you would help me,” he admitted, rubbing his thumb over the tender skin of her inner wrist. He felt her heart skip a beat at his light caress. She was still aroused by his touch. Thank God. It was the only hope he had that he could reach through the walls she was trying to build between them. “But that doesn’t explain why I spent my day checking my phone to see if you called,” he confessed. “Or why I refused the offer of my Packmates to meet with you. From the minute I caught sight of you, I knew that no one else was getting near you.” He lifted her hand to nuzzle his lips against her fingers. “You are mine.”

That brought her head back around, her eyes wide. “Yours?”

He didn’t hesitate. “Yes. Mine.” He placed her fingers against his cheek. “It just took the thought of losing you to get it through my thick skull.”

Her eyes darkened with pleasure. A growl rumbled deep in Sinclair’s chest. His woman liked the feel of his rough whiskers that stubbled his jaw. Good. He planned to rub them over her naked skin as he kissed a path from her lush lips to the tips of her toes.

“I’ll agree with the thick skull part.”

He turned his head, pressing his lips to the center of her palm. “Let me convince you,” he pleaded in soft tones.

He heard her breath catch in her throat and the sudden leap of her heart. But even as she started to sway toward him, she abruptly shoved herself to her feet.
Buried and Shadowed (Kindle Locations 2547-2569).

As Mira unravels this puzzle with skill and intrigue, Sinclair must keep her and his pack safe. Lots of suspense, a heart pounding race against time, and a revelation. Top that off with sizzling sex and a love story for the ages.

I also fell in love with Rios the Unseen beta and Bree the shifter/reporter I assume is his mate. I guess that’s a story for the next installment.

I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Summer My Review

This is not your typical western series. This is a complicated, plot twisting, hold your breath adventure.

Buck has been attracted to Delilah since she came to the Flying K. She never speaks, but he has occasionally heard her softly humming to herself. Unable to help himself he enters her dreams and listens to her sing. He becomes enthralled and Jason who was in her mind kicks him out of the dream.

Here is a favorite passage as Buck tells the others of Delilah’s powers.

“Because her power lies in her voice. She sings and anyone who hears it falls under her spell. I don’t know whether it’s a devotion to her that makes you want to do anything for her or she can implant other ideas, but it’s the most enchantingly beautiful sound you’ll ever hear.” The admission left him mildly embarrassed, but he’d had time to think on his reactions. He went into her dreams because he liked her—because he wanted to know her better—not because of her song.

The song made him want to go back.

“So she sang for you?” Skepticism ruffled Cody’s expression. “Out of nowhere?”

“No. She sang in her dreams.” Jimmy worked his knife against a piece of wood, whittling it into some shape only he could see. “Brother dreamwalker, there, was peeping.”

Scowling, Buck bit back a retort. Hard to deny the truth. “Why would you spy on her?” Scarlett, however, had no problems taking him to task.

“I wasn’t spying.” Buck ignored Cody’s nudge to Jimmy and Jimmy’s quick, amused grin. “I felt bad for her. She seemed very lonely, she wouldn’t talk, and we didn’t know what happened to her after Kid and Cody sent her on the journey from the New Mexico territory. So I wanted—I wanted to get to know her better. I thought maybe in her dreams…”

“She would be more comfortable.” Surprisingly, Sam saw his side of it. “Not an unfair assessment. But if her voice is enchanting, I take it you’re under some kind of duress now?”

The question brought everyone’s attention to him and Buck shook his head slowly. “Not anymore. When she realized what was happening, she did—something—sang me free? I’m not sure I entirely understand it. I will ask our father about it tonight after we talk.”

“You’re sure you’re okay?” Scarlett’s censure shifted to concern.

“I’m fine.” He gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile. “Honestly, my feelings for her remain what they were—concern. I want to help her. I told her we would help her.”
A Fistful of Dreams (Fevered Hearts #4) (Kindle Locations 1162-1180). Heather Long. Kindle Edition.

Delilah’s a siren and her powers are extremely dangerous to everyone. Buck is determined to help her gain the needed control as they fall further in love. Jason holds her secret, one that could change everything for all of them.

In every one of these books there is more than meets the eye, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Scarlett, Sam, the babies, Micah, Jason, Kid, Cody and Jimmy each have a role in this story and we get our first real look at Wyatt.

Summer My Review

I’ll start with WOW! I totally loved this book. There is nothing like 5 incredibly brave, strong women to put men in there place. In this case in more ways than one.

Katlyn is Lady Hawk, the commander of the Ladies of the Black Swan. A secret military test group, trained as special ops. Their goal is simple in theory, complicated in fact, challenging in all. Challenges her team are more than qualified to meet and do EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. As a result they have a large price on their heads, more even than the Navy Seals do.

I think Alex doomed himself right at the beginning of the book when he and one of his managers were discussing the  female who passed Ranger School. Then seeing Katlyn in the company apartment only confirms the fact that these two want each other. No matter what might happen. Even as they stop fighting it, there is her job and his. He isn’t going to like hers at all. Here is a favorite scene while they celebrate Lei Lu’s birthday.

Alex pressed his whole body against her and took her mouth with commitment. It was too much. She hadn’t been kissed like that in… years. She slowly pulled back and gentled the kiss.

When they came up for air, he hugged her tightly as they both caught their breath. He ran his hand up and down her back.

“Christ, I’ve missed you,” he said into her ear and squeezed her even tighter.

Tori and Nita walked into their VIP seating area and grabbed their drinks. Nita swatted Katlin’s outstretched legs and said, “Get a room, bitch, or share.” Katlin untangled herself from Alex and gave him a passing kiss as she sat upright on the couch. Nita fell into the space beside her. Tori threw her endless legs onto the third couch and stretched as everyone ignored Grace, who was having a private conversation with   Griffin.

“Where’s our birthday girl?” Tori asked, looking around. “I thought she was with you,” Katlin said.

Manuel, standing at the railing to watch the dancing mob, announced, “She’s on the floor with both the pro dancers. She’s having a good time. She’s on her third shot, though.”

“She’s an adult, and besides, it’s her birthday.” Nita shrugged as she licked the last drop of her pink drink. “She can deal with it.”

“She’ll just sleep in tomorrow, and we’ll be expected to drag her sorry ass out of bed sometime after noon,” Tori reasoned.

“I’ll whip up my hangover cure, and she’ll be fine within a few hours,” Nita offered.

Katlin finished her double, a needed alcoholic reinforcement. She looked at Alex and said, “Let’s go dance.” She took his hand and pulled him off the couch toward the floor of bouncing bodies. As they found space amidst the dancers, a Latin pop song started.

Katlin draped her hands loosely on Alex’s shoulders as her whole body moved to the music. He placed his hands to her hips, and they moved together as though they had been professional Salsa dancing partners for years.
Unrelenting Love-Black Swan Series Book 1 (Kindle Locations 2197-2216).

Lots of action, fun, laughter, tears and sizzling hot sex. I can’t wait for the next in this series.

When the spirit fever struck a town, a village or an outpost, it left few if any survivors. The white man blamed the Indian saying they used their mojo on them. The Indians blamed the white man for angering the spirits. The survivors knew it didn’t matter. The Fevered were forever changed.

A job that needs to be done…

With his older brother Sam preoccupied by the upcoming birth of his child and younger brother Kid recovering from his injuries, Micah Kane has never been so busy—too busy to go to San Antonio and escort home the new schoolteacher—but what his father wants, his father gets. Busy or not, one look at the exotic beauty with her rich European accent and he can’t think of anything else.

A woman on the run…

Josephine Miller entered an arranged marriage on good faith. One year of misery later, she discovered a horrifying secret about her husband and fled west. Becoming a schoolteacher in a small Texas town seemed like the perfect way to disappear but Micah’s touch awakens a desperate desire that she finds herself helpless to resist.

Darkness, danger and death lurking on the horizon…

An outbreak of the spirit fever, dangerous strangers in town and wild accidents at the Flying K threatening everything they care about, Micah must convince Jo that she doesn’t have to run—together they can stand against any storm.

His code. Her secret. Their war.

Summer My Review

Let me say right now this series is extremely addictive. I have fallen in love with each character as the series continues.

In the  beginning of this book the chores are piling up, Sam is spending the week in town and weekends at home with a very pregnant Scarlett. Then there is Kid, he’s still recovering although his gift appears to be gone. In spite of all that and the work to be done Micah is sent to San Antonio to escort the new school teacher to Dorado. She is younger than he expected and he finds himself intrigued by her accent and shyness. He is definitely attracted to her and plans to court her.

Josephine Miller came to Dorado to be the schoolteacher, she is sweet, hard working and is hiding something, a big something. Bigger than even she knows. In spite of that Micah becomes persistent in his pursuit of her.  I think this is one of my favorite scenes at the Church Social as Micah starts his courting in earnest.
Her scent curled around him, fresh summer, lemon verbena and a hint of something exotic that he couldn’t quite identify, but completely feminine and alluring. She leaned back, but didn’t take her hand from his nor leaned so far away as to rebuff his attentions. She lifted the cup with her free hand and sipped the lemonade. He could almost see her eyes begin to water. She blinked rapidly. “Do they add anything to the lemonade? Like water?”

“Not that I’m aware.” He grinned. He would have brought her a chilled tea, but she seemed so opposed to it during their last discussion.

“That is…” she frowned briefly, as though searching for the words. “Indescribable.”

He leaned back a fraction more and laughed, his fingers loosely wrapped around hers and he kept the urge to stroke the glove’s softness in check. Hell, he wanted to peel the damn things off and just hold her hand.

One step at a time, Micah. One step at a time. Picking up his own lemonade he gave her a playful look and knocked the whole drink back. A fist to his throat would have been kinder. As it was, the wild tartness overwhelmed his senses, and he fought the urge to sputter.

Her eyes widened.

He swallowed. He would not cough.

Her eyebrows rose, the corner of her mouth began to twitch.

He gritted his teeth against the squeeze of tears in the back of his eyes. He cleared his throat with a low growl and waggled his brows.

Mrs. Miller burst out laughing. Her fingers tightened over his hand and she covered her giggles with her free hand. “I do sincerely hope your mouth does not remain pinched in that fashion.”

He grinned and the quick cough escaped. Both actions only served to make her laugh harder. He loved the sound of it, low, warm, throaty and filled with such genuine mirth. The amusement came up from her belly, sparkled in her eyes, and flushed her cheeks with a glow.

“You are so beautiful.” The words slid out faster than he could rein in his tongue.

“Thank you, Micah.”

And there was the mule kick again.

She called him Micah.

“You’re very welcome, Mrs. Miller.”

She bit her lower lip, her gaze tracking over to the dancers. The Spanish dance ended and a third song filled the air. A waltz.

The new style of dance invaded their little town gradually, arriving with the new settlers just the last autumn, but its sensuous popularity couldn’t be denied.

Even at the church social.

“Would you ask me to dance again, Micah?”

He rose immediately, holding fast to her captive hand. “It would be my genuine pleasure, Mrs. Miller, if you would share this dance with me.” Thank God Lena wanted to learn how to do this last autumn.

Her skirt brushed his legs again as he guided her out into the other dancers. She fit against his frame almost perfectly. He concentrated so hard on not pulling her closer that he nearly missed her next words.

“I think it would be entirely appropriate for you to call me Josephine now—or Jo, if you would prefer.”
Micah & Mrs Miller (Fevered Hearts #3) (pp. 146-148) Kindle Edition.

Then the spirit fever hits Dorado and the Flying K.

OMG I cried, so many die, and on top of it all, more fevered from outside cause additional havoc. A soul-searching, stunning, plot twisting adventure. Complete with sizzling hot romance and new survivors of the fever. Grab some tissues and read this book!

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas in the summertime.

From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories–her characters drive the books.

When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
