review-fall-cornucopia

While investigating the disappearance of some men from town Mike had to go to Los Lobos to ask questions. It’s part of his job as Sheriff, he really didn’t have a choice. However when he literally runs into Damien things are going to escalate.

Damien is Mike’s mate, he knows it but hasn’t said anything to Mike. Fear that their relationship would be taboo in the pack has kept Damien silent.

With the men from town missing and one particular human pushing for answers, Mike has no choice but to question the goings on in Los Lobos. This is part of the scene that could change everything not only for Mike and Damien but the pack as well.
Roberts fixed a hard stare on him. “I’m sure we can skip with the formalities, Sheriff.”

He placed his briefcase on the floor at his feet. “Do you have anything new for me?”

The question prodded his temper. “I would’ve contacted you if I did.”

“I heard you went over to Los Lobos again last night.”

He gritted his teeth in annoyance. “This town doesn’t miss much, does it?”

“Word travels fast.” Roberts laughed, the sound grating on Mike’s nerves. “So, what did you find out?”

“Nothing. I spoke to the bartender at the Den, and he said no one had passed through there in months.” He leaned back in his chair and narrowed his eyes.

After digging up what information he could, he discovered each of Roberts’s employees had been drifters with no real family ties, and they’d all had problems with the law on more than one occasion. As for Carl Marston, the man was a hard-hearted son of a bitch no one in town had particularly missed in his absence. There was no telling what trouble the men had brought on themselves. Hell, maybe they’d moved on for all he knew.

In this part of the country, it wasn’t uncommon for people to disappear in the area without a trace, whether by choice or foul play. Wasn’t the first time, and no doubt it wouldn’t be the last. However, five missing men seemed a tad excessive. Then, there was the question of Roberts’s and Marston’s shady business dealings.

Everyone in town knew both men straddled the fence between law-abiding and criminal. Had they somehow gotten themselves and their men tangled in a business scheme gone wrong? At once, Damien’s words about Roberts earlier that morning echoed in his head.

“Tell me again why you’re so adamant those men disappeared in Los Lobos.” He lifted a brow.

Between everyone’s tight-lipped silence and a dead trail of bullshit leads, the whole fucking investigation ventured into the realm of ridiculous. Roberts held his gaze long enough to give him the impression the man weighed his options. Good, you need to, jackass.

He waited, certain Roberts was on the brink of coughing up information. His patience was rewarded when Roberts shifted and lifted the suitcase onto his lap. The snick of the latches resonated in the quiet office as he opened the case. From inside, he produced a sealed manila envelope and tossed it on the desk.

Staring at the item, Mike made no move to reach for it though his curiosity was piqued.

Wearing a smug expression, Roberts pointed at the packet. “Go ahead. See for yourself. That’ll explain everything.”
Limoges, M.. Naming His Mate (Black Hills Wolves Book 17) (Kindle Locations 325-346). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Thus begins a reveal, that could make or break more than just Damien’s heart.

Extremely sensual and while I don’t read a lot of M/M but this was well written. The spirit of the Black Hills Wolves and what Drew has accomplished is evident in every word.

review-fall-cornucopia

Right from the beginning you can tell these wolves haven’t been raised within a pack. This is the first family we’ve seen that was not originally from the Los Lobos pack. This is particularly apparent with Caress, she is a bit out of control and seems to want to cause conflict. Ravage brought his family here because his brother Raze is gay and many packs won’t accept this sexuality. Just another reason I love Drew!

Adrie is new to the Black Hills, she hasn’t been close to her wolf having been raised by humans. She was a teacher outside the pack and is now teaching in Los Lobos. Caress’ new job will be as her teaching assistant, while she finishes up her own degree.

I guess the whole not being raised in a pack somehow made the pairing between Adrie and Ravage seem more difficult as she is fighting her wolf. This is a favorite scene as they meet in person for the first time.

Did I make the right decision coming to Los Lobos? Will Caress be all right? Will Raze? He sniffed the air, something snagging his attention. The scent of sweetness, a hint of vanilla and jasmine. His Wolf smiled. Glancing at his watch, he was surprised to find three hours had passed while he’d been deep in thought. He rose and headed through the house to meet their new visitor.

Ravage opened the front door and leaned against the frame. He raked his gaze over the curvy woman in a skirt and form-fitting shirt. His perusal ended on her pixie-cute face and beautiful gray eyes hidden behind the ugliest pair of horn-rimmed horn-rimmed glasses he’d ever seen. “Hi, beautiful.”

“Hi. I’m Adrie. I figured since we’d talked on the phone so much, I’d come by personally and welcome you and your family to Los Lobos.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Ravage.” He wanted to release her hair from the tight bun at the nape of her neck, let the tresses hang around her shoulders and face.

“I figured you’d be hungry, so I wanted to be a good neighbor and bring by dinner and sweet tea. We don’t have any quick restaurants nearby, and I thought you’d be too worn out from moving to cook, at least for tonight.”

She’s cute when she rambles on. His Wolf agreed. “Let me take that from you. Come on in. We haven’t done much yet, just unloaded our trailer.”

“I saw. Looks like you’re moving an entire state in with you.”

Ravage led her to the dining room, the only area with chairs unpacked, aside from the breakfast stools along the breakfast counter. As he set the containers on the table, he considered calling Caress inside but wanted to check out the sexy schoolmarm. “Please have a seat.”

She perched on the edge of a chair, a pretty blush staining her cheeks. Her gaze traveled from his bare chest to his face, to his chest again, and a lingering pass back up to meet his eyes.

Amused, he arched a brow. “Do I need to put on a shirt?”

“I, um…. You don’t have to on my account.” She looked at him from behind her glasses.

Interesting. He didn’t know of any shifters needing prescription glasses. He reached over and plucked them off her face. “Do you always hide behind fake glasses? You have beautiful eyes. It’s a shame you don’t show them to others.”

“Can I please have those back? The students take me more seriously when I wear them.”

“Hmm. I don’t know exactly what to make of you, Ms. Adrie.” He returned the glasses to her. “Would you care for a bottle of water? It’s the only thing cold I have on hand.”

“Um. No, that’s okay. I wanted to drop off the food and introduce myself. I’ve done what I came to do. Now, I can head home.”

“To eat alone or with your mate? You never said during our conversations on the phone.”

“Real smooth, Casanova.” Caress strolled into the room, bringing a horrible stench with her.

“I hope you’re going to shower.”

“Yep. I need a break. Everything’s coming along out there, though. I’m Caress.”

“Oh, nice to meet you. I’m Adrie.” She smiled, and his heart tripped. “You’ll be the one working with me, then?”

His sister gave a quick wave. “I’d shake your hand, but you don’t want fertilizer and my mixed compost leeching into your pretty outfit.”

“No worries.” The woman rose to leave. “I was in the neighborhood, dropping off dinner.”

“You might as well stay. My brother has this amazing way of getting females to do what he wants, and I think he wants you to eat with us… unless you have someone at home to get back to?”

“Uh, no.” She stared, a deer caught in headlights. “I only have some papers to grade in an empty house.”
Levey, Mahalia. Seducing the Schoolmarm (Black Hills Wolves Book 16) (Kindle Locations 223-256). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Adrie feels the pull of mate and jealousy and more. But she continually fights her wolf. Ravage needs to help her trust her wolf instead of just human instincts. The sex is hotter than hot and he really is being as patient as he can.

An interesting view of the Black Hills Wolves, complete with new ideas and improvements within the pack. Also some questions of who Caress’ mate may be and Raze’s too. I really, really love this series with all the different takes on the matings and pack activities.

“Use your safewords if you need them, Kenna.”

Griffin hesitated only one more second.

And then he was on her. His mouth on hers. His tongue sinking deep. His hands in her soft blond waves. The moan she unleashed shot straight to his cock and made him want to wring every moan he’d missed these five long years out of her beautiful, curvy body.

“Put your arms around my neck,” he said. When she did, he cupped her ass in his hands and pushed off the couch. “Hang on, little one.”

He made for the adjacent door to the play room, but, good as it was, that one kiss hadn’t been nearly enough. Not when he was absofuckinglutely starving.

Pinning her to the wall, he dove back in again. Kissing, claiming, devouring. He ground himself against her pussy, the strangled cry she released around his tongue making his balls heavy and full. “I’m not sure you realize what you’re getting into with me, Kenna. Because I’ve missed the hell out of making you come.”

“Oh, God,” she rasped.

“God can’t save you. Not from me. Not tonight.”

He swung open the door, the motion-activated lights coming on as they moved into the play room. Others occasionally used this space, but he used it most. He’d designed and installed the furniture, suspension hooks and shackles, and pulley systems in the room for all different kinds of bondage play, and he’d outfitted the storage cabinets with every possible implement he’d need, too.

And he had just the thing in mind, for tonight.

“Feet down,” he said.

The way she slid down him nearly drove him insane, and then he stepped back and considered her body suit. It was so fucking sexy that he hated to ruin it, but PVC was a bitch to get on and off.

“I fucking love and hate that body suit right now,” he said, planting a stern expression on his face.

Amusement flashed across her eyes. “Sorry, Sir,” she said, not sounding sorry at all.

A thought came to mind and he retrieved a roll of red Kinesio tape from a cabinet. Tearing a length off he said, “I’m going to allow you the suit. This time. But I need you to tell me where the prosthesis ends and your arm begins. Can you do that for me?”

“Yes,” she said, lifting her arm as he moved in. “The stump extends about two inches below my elbow.”

“Here?” He held the tape over the black of her suit. When she nodded, he gently applied the red marking around her forearm. “Once we start, you have carte blanche—for tonight—to speak. I want you vocal. I want you telling me how I’m making you feel.” He nailed her with a stare. “Don’t let me hurt you. Don’t even let me get close.”

“I won’t, Master Griffin. I can handle this.”

“I doubt don’t it, Kenna, but I will cut the scene if I have even an inkling that I’m causing unintentional pain that you’re not owning up to.” He arched a brow. “Are we clear?” She gave a fast nod. “Good. Then spread your feet and put your hands at your side. Now.”

Her ready compliance fucking slayed him. After all this time, it really did.

“Mmm. Very good. Now, don’t move a muscle unless I tell you to. Because the scene begins right now.”

synopsis-fall-cornucopia

Meet Jake Danes of Hudson River—Lone Wolf, avid gamer, extreme sports enthusiast, and surfer. He’s spent the last two years roaming free, exploring the world and escaping the dark place his pack had become after betrayal and murder tore them apart. Sure, life changed back home, but Jake’s having way too much fun to return—riding the waves in Monterrey and living out of a van. It’s the perfect life, one he never wants to give up, no matter how many calls he’s fielding from his big brother…then he catches her scent.

Mimi Chase wanted one perfect year. Time away from pack politics and her mother’s matchmaking efforts. Ever since her big brother settled into mating with a healer, Mimi’s mom seems to have gone into overdrive—throwing her at every eligible male in the pack. Choosing to roam seemed the best option, and California the ideal location to get away from everything pack related. Her plans for art classes, yoga on the beach, maybe a cooking lesson or two while living a hippy dippy lifestyle are all she cares about…until another wolf butts into her every activity.

Doesn’t he know the rules?

Lone Wolves aren’t supposed to form relationships, so why doesn’t he catch a hint? Worse, why isn’t she working harder to make sure he does?

review-fall-cornucopia

Mimi just wanted to get away from her mother and pack drama. Mason granted her wish. One year in California to study and experience life outside the pack.

Jake left Hudson River and went lone wolf two years ago. He wanted to go where he wanted when he wanted following the waves and enjoying life. Now there is a pretty little wolf on his beach. One of my favorite scenes is their meeting in the excerpt below, but my favorite quote occurs a little bit after that as they go to get coffee with Mimi driving.

“Holy crap, where did you learn to drive?” The words burst out of him.

“Evading the dog catcher 101.” She spotted the coffee stand she’d missed earlier, the coffee cup sign was a dead giveaway.

Mimi is the perfect foil for Jake. She is smart and funny and snarky. We get to know more about Mitch the enforcer for their area, after Mimi encounters a wolf that doesn’t smell quite right to her. With Jake and Mimi thrown together at least while the enforcer checks out the mysterious wolf, we really get to know them both.

Quick little peeks of Mason and Brett as well as Julian.

As for Jake and Mimi, I love the way they fight, the way they play and the way they flirt. So much happens in this book it will keep you on your toes and anxious for the next one. I know I can’t wait!

excerpt-fall-cornucopia

Mimi grabbed a blanket and her yoga mat from the back of her Mini Cooper. She loved the tiny little vehicle. No matter how often her brother scoffed at the minute size of the car, she didn’t care. It was perfect for her. Compact, like she was, and capable of great speeds—just like her. Locking it up, she glanced east at the rising sun and smiled. It was a little after six in the morning and she’d already had a bit of a run, a lovely cup of hot tea with lemon and ginger to cleanse her system, and she would enjoy the full sunrise and rolling surf with her yoga.

Pausing, she took a deep breath of the salt flavored air. She loved the way the beach smelled. Warm sand. Cool water. Brine. Fish. Birds. Even the coconut oil favored by some of the sunbathers and honest sweat from those running on the paths—they all combined to soothe her soul. Tucking the rolled blanket and yoga mat beneath her arm, she closed the hatch on the car and pivoted to walk toward the beach.

A hint of wolf on the breeze had her pausing to scan the area. Other than a handful of vehicles in the lot, and a couple of runners jogging farther away, she didn’t see anyone. Still, she tested the scent once more. It was faint, as though diluted by the breeze and time. She tracked it all the way to a dilapidated Volkswagen van. It reminded her of the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo without the paint job.

The scent of wolf grew stronger. The van had to belong to whomever the wolf was, but the lack of fresh markers told her while his scent lingered, he wasn’t present. Adjusting her grip on the rolled blanket and mat, she circled away from the van and continued toward the beach all the while reminding herself that other Lone Wolves may choose to wander California for the same reason she did. No one claimed the beautiful state…well at least not this far north. The closest pack to her location was Sutter Butte, but she’d never heard any word of them taking an interest in the beaches.

Then again, she didn’t talk to a lot of people about the political geography of packs. If it’s all the same, I’d prefer not to encounter any of them. They have a bad rap and I’m on a journey of serenity, and self-discovery…and totally avoiding Mother’s matchmaking. The little voice at the end sounded way too much like her brother Owen’s, and she giggled. Owen, at least, had been sympathetic to her cause when she’d told him and Mason why she wanted to take the time to study in the Golden State.

Her mother’s habit of making pro and con lists for all of the pack’s current eligible bachelors had been bad enough, but when she’d talked to Gillian about potential mates in Hudson River and began colluding with Claudia Buckley about Delta Crescent, Mimi wanted out.

It was so bad, she’d actually asked Owen to get Gillian pregnant just to distract their mother. The silence on his end of the phone had been priceless, followed by peals of laughter from Gillian. Fortunately, her desperation had communicated itself well enough and he’d endorsed her request. Mason made her promise to return at the end of one year, even if she was enjoying herself, and she would be free to return to her studies after, if that was her desire.

Mason is the bomb. She hopped over the rocks to land on the sand and began to stroll in search of a spot that would speak to her. Not only had her alpha understood her dilemma and sympathized with it, he didn’t chastise her for the need to stretch herself beyond the confines of pack and parental expectation. Mimi’s skills for tracking had earned her high marks growing up, and more than one offer from the Hunters to apprentice. It made sense—both her father and her brother were Hunters. Even her two younger brothers were well on the way toward Hunter apprenticeships. Felicity had zero interest in the Hunter parts of their DNA, she preferred her flowers and cultivation, working closely with Tiffany Huston. Still, Mimi didn’t share her sister’s interest in horticulture or her mother’s desire to educate their young or her father and brothers’ drive to protect the pack.

She was…not sure who I am, which is why I am doing this. The year away from her mother served two purposes; she could take some classes and test her areas of interest from art to acting to writing. She could study yoga and find some serenity. Maybe even figure out who she was, because wasn’t that the whole point of a roam? Most wolves took time to roam the country; some even went around the world.

Murphy had done that and came home with a mate. Mimi grimaced. She loved Murphy, but really, could she have not brought home some gorgeous Italian and mated him with all the requisite gossip? It had Mimi’s mother nudging her to consider a year abroad in…where else? Italy. Shaking her head, she paused on a perfectly smooth area of sand and spread her blanket before unrolling her yoga mat in the center.

Closing her eyes, she took several deep breaths. Inhaling calm, and exhaling the stress. Her mother was in Willow Bend. Mimi was in California. No ridiculous blind dates or not-so-casual meetings with eligible bachelors. Thank God Dylan mated before her mother got it into her head to throw Mimi at every male who came along, she’d actually had a crush on Dylan and he definitely fell into the category of eligible before Chrystal.

Growling, she opened her eyes and glared at the water. She was hardly alone on the beach. Laughter drifted towards her from where the surfers made their way toward deeper water, or where some sat astride their boards waiting for the water to come in. She was supposed to be letting go of her anxiety and not stressing about her mother, mating, or any of a dozen other issues being so far away from the pack could rouse in her.

She’d been in California for three weeks. Three gloriously wonderful, and peaceful weeks. This morning marked a full forty-eight hours since her mother’s last phone call. As loathe, as she was to hurt her feelings, Mimi couldn’t help but be relieved that distance had finally done what she hadn’t been able to manage.

Her mother was quiet.

So hush… Telling herself repeatedly didn’t silence the nagging internal monologue. Mindful of her surroundings, she quieted her growl and concentrated on her breathing. Mountain pose let her stretch her hands toward the sky and raise her face to the breeze. It elongated her spine and let her stretch the muscles from her hamstrings to her deltoids. The wind caressed her face and tousled her hair and batted away the riot of thoughts invading her mind.

From mountain she went to tree pose and rested her right foot against the side of her left knee. Her muscles quivered at first, but gradually she relaxed into the sturdiness. Like the tree she emulated, she let the woes of her mother’s romantic aspirations blow past her. The steadiness bolstered her confidence.

Warrior pose drew away the last curtain and let her mind relax. Her wolf stretched within her, their hearing seeming to sharpen as they noticed the increase of traffic beyond, the crash of water against the shore, and the call of birds overhead. Wolf and woman catalogued the sounds as she pushed her body, identifying any potential threats or lack thereof and remaining mindful.

By the time she drifted into a graceful downward dog, she’d relaxed her breathing and banished her anxiety. Curling her toes, she concentrated on feeling the wholeness of the position, the hinging arch of her hips and the warmth of the sand beneath the mat and blanket.

From triangle pose to seated twists to bridges, she pushed her body to achieve perfect serenity while maintaining her sense of being in the present. The sun warmed her as it continued a steady rise, and she basked in the rays as they heated her skin. When she finally settled into a lotus pose, she let her mind drift, as though flotsam upon the waves before her.

The world withdrew, leaving her alone with the lapping water, humming cars, and screech of seagulls…then water dripped on her. The icy sensation of splashing drops was cold against her skin. Though there had been no call for rain in the forecast, she fought to hold onto her sense of inner peace and deepened her breathing…only to inhale a lungful of coconut and brine mingling with the green scent of dewy sea grass atop the sand dunes with slivers of mint and…

Mimi jerked her eyes open and stared into the blue eyes of the wolf squatting right in front of her. His long, straggly hair clung wetly to his face and shoulders. The wet suit left little of his physique to the imagination, and he canted his head as though trying to figure her out. This close, however, she couldn’t miss a single nuance of his expression or the drops of water sliding off of him to splash wetly against her legs.

How the hell had he approached her so stealthily that she hadn’t sensed or scented him before he dripped on her?

Worse…who was he and what did he want?

“Hey, gorgeous,” he said, as though aware of her racing her thoughts. “What brings a sexy little wolf like you to my stretch of beach?” A slow grin spread his mouth wide, and her stomach did a little flip flop. He was gorgeous and damn if he didn’t know it.

Just what she needed…a hot, sexy wolf who was most assuredly male and made her wolf stand up to take notice. Ignoring her animal’s very natural curiosity, she narrowed her eyes. “I was enjoying a quiet morning. Now go away.”

One thing about having Owen for a brother, she wasn’t helpless, even if she was tiny. Closing her eyes again, she forced her muscles to relax and prayed he’d take the direction well, even as she prepared for the worst.

While she might hold within her the key to helping the Sutter Butte Alpha, the undertaking could very well kill her.

Accompanied by a single Hound, Sovvan begins a journey to help Cassius rebuild the foundation of his pack, but first she will have to transform him…

Snow wolf

Ranae is the youngest of the Buckleys— the only girl among three powerful male siblings. Her restlessness and dominant nature affected her every relationship within Willow Bend, not to mention testing the patience of her Alpha. Apprenticeship to the Hunters fed her desire for a purpose. When her Alpha and eldest brother ask her to undertake a mission to the Yukon territory, she’s thrilled at the opportunity to be useful. Clashing with the Diesel was the last thing she expected on the dangerous assignment.

Diesel, the oldest Alpha in the U.S. packs, lives a gray existence. The loss of his mate so many decades ago wears away at him until he doesn’t give a damn about anything. The problems of the other packs are not his, and he prefers to be left in isolation. The arrival of the Chief Enforcer annoys him, but it is the wolf traveling with him who wakes the predator in Diesel. The scent of mate clings to her, but she rejects his overtures and challenges him on every level.

War may be coming for the Yukon, but Diesel’s battle is very personal…

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Sheriff’s Deputy Hayden Yates has worked hard to gain the respect and admiration of her fellow law enforcement officers. She’s succeeded so well, in fact, that she’s become just one of the guys. As her friends slowly begin to meet their soul mates, Hayden longs to be seen as a desirable woman, and not the tomboy she’s always been.No slouch when it comes to attracting the opposite sex, cowboy Boone Hatcher might want to give it a rest for a while, especially after his last girlfriend accuses him of domestic abuse. Deputy Yates sees right through his ex’s ruse—and Boone sees right through Deputy Yates. Hayden might seem all business, but her need for justice comes from a heart that beats with pure passion.

A few dates turn into something more, and as the couple’s relationship deepens, so do the threats from his ex. It’s up to Hayden to convince Boone the danger is real…before jealous antics escalate to deadly obsession.

** Justice for Boone is the 6th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

review-fall-cornucopia

There are many levels of abuse, and one thing I’ve definitely noticed is that they aren’t limited to women and children. Men can also be abused, both mentally and physically. Especially if they hold themselves to high moral standards, Boone is one of those men. His ex-girlfriend is trying to insinuate herself back into his life and not in a good way. She knows Boone’s weakness and plays on it. Now he sits waiting for the deputies to arrest him for something he didn’t do, couldn’t do, hit a woman.

Enter Hayden, with her keen eye and instincts, she knows that the abuser in the situation she’s been called to is not Boone but Dana. Dana the hysterical, out of control woman in the other room with a deputy watching her. I absolutely loved the methodical way Hayden broke apart Dana’s story. Bruise by bruise and claim by claim.

One of my favorite scenes is when Boone goes to the Sheriff’s office to get the documentation for the restraining order against Dana. His goal there was twofold. One of which was to ask Hayden to go out with him. It had me giggling.

Well, she’d vowed to be herself in the next relationship she got into, no matter what. And while she had no idea if Boone wanted a relationship, or just wanted to take her out for coffee to thank her, she would be herself. And that would be her in a tank top and shorts, darn it.

Hayden quickly changed out of her uniform and stuffed it in her gym bag to put in her car and take home. She took her hair out of the bun she always kept it in for work and ran a brush through it haphazardly. Her hair was thick, and it annoyed her most days. She liked the color but sometimes it almost felt as if it would be easier to chop it all off than deal with it day in and day out. She threw it up in a quick ponytail, rolling her eyes at how it curled up at the end since it’d been confined in a bun all night. A femme fatale, she’d never be.

She rushed out of the locker room, only to run right into another deputy named Brandon.

“Yo, Yates, where’s the fire?”

“I’m off shift, headed out.”

“With that cowboy in the front?”

“If you must know, yes.”

“You look like a high school cheerleader.”

Hayden rolled her eyes. So much for being sexy. “Whatever, Brandon. Don’t you have any bad guys to process or anything?”

He laughed. “As a matter of fact, yes. Hey, the guys are going out tomorrow night. Wanna come?”

Hayden didn’t take offense at being considered one of the guys. She loved hanging out with the other deputies when they were off duty. “Sure. Same place as usual?”

“Yup. See you then!”

“See ya!”

Hayden strode down the hall and back up to the front. She hoped she hadn’t taken too long. What if Boone had left? What if he’d thought twice about asking her for coffee?

She opened the door and stepped into the lobby, relieved to see Boone still there. He’d stepped to the side of the reception desk, and was holding a large envelope, which probably held the reports he’d come to the station to get in the first place, and there were now two men talking to the secretary at the front. One of the men whistled as she came into the room.

“Well, well, well. You just get let out of the tank? Maybe you want to party with me and my friend here?”

It took a second for Hayden to realize just what the man was implying, but before she could put him in his place, Boone was in implying, but before she could put him in his place, Boone was in his face.
“I’m guessing you want to rethink your words. I do believe you just called a sheriff’s deputy a prostitute. Besides being a dumbass thing to say to anyone inside a police station, or out, it was simply rude. I think you should apologize.”

The man looked from Boone’s unyielding pissed-off face, to Hayden, to the young secretary sitting behind the glass. She pointed up at a camera in the corner, smirking.

“Oh shit. Yeah. Uh, sorry. I was just kidding, but it was out of line. I didn’t mean anything by it. Really.”

Hayden rolled her eyes. God, had she ever been as young and dumb as this guy? She truly hoped not. She decided to ignore them.

“You ready to go, Boone?”

Boone hadn’t moved from his position next to the younger man. He stood at least three or four inches taller than him, and was probably a good fifty pounds heavier as well. Hayden walked over to him and put her hand on his arm. “Boone. Come on.”

He allowed Hayden to guide him away from the man, but said as he shifted sideways, “You’re lucky you aren’t in cuffs right now for solicitation. Think before you talk, man. And stop disrespecting women. It isn’t cool.”

Boone put his arm around Hayden’s upper back and they walked out into the parking lot. He stopped outside the door and dropped his arm. “Sorry about that. God, what a dumbass.”

Hayden giggled. Actually giggled.
Stoker, Susan. Justice for Boone (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 6) (Kindle Locations 662-690). Stoker Aces Production, LLC. Kindle Edition.

I wasn’t surprised at the attraction between Boone and Hayden. He is much of what she needs. Someone to see her as the beautiful woman she is and able to give her love and affection she has been lacking in her life.

We learn a lot about Hayden and why she is the way she is. Seeing her relationship grow with Boone even under the shadow of Dana’s maliciousness was fun and rewarding. A lot of laughter, some tears and some very hot and endearing sex.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

My Review of Em Petrova’s Ridge – Rope ‘n Ride Book 3

Ridge
Rope ‘n Ride Book 3
By
Em Petrova

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Grab the popcorn—someone is about to get slapped or kicked on this episode of Rope ’n Ride.

The season finale of the Calhoun’ rodeo reality show ends with Ridge being stood up by the woman he loves and humiliated on national TV. If that isn’t bad enough, an old knee injury has him wincing every time he gets on the back of a bronco, making it difficult to put winning scores up on the board. But he’s determined to shake off his streak of bad luck—and all these marriage proposals from fans pouring in now that the show has aired.

Kashley grew up with the Calhouns, playing hide and seek in the cornfields while their fathers talked ranching. And she’s been in love with Ridge…well, forever. He’s never noticed and she’s too shy to make any attempts, but when she sees him struggling after his breakup, coming to his aid is a no-brainer. Which lands her on a whirlwind tour of rodeos, where she’s falling more for him while struggling to rein in his self-destructive behavior.

The cameras love to catch Ridge losing his cool, his family is riding him to cut it out and he can’t keep his eyes—or every other body part off Kashley. Then a secret is revealed that has him going after her ex even as his own ex pops into his life again. Between the drama, his old injury and Wranglers that fit too tight after being around the woman he shouldn’t toy with, Ridge is fed up. Plus he couldn’t be in love again so soon, right?

review-fall-cornucopia

Ridge is just so volatile, his pride has taken a major hit after being stood up at his planned engagement dinner. Now he is short tempered with anyone that mentions Anna’s name. On top of that his knee is injured and he is trying to hide it from everyone.

Kashley’s been in love with Ridge forever although he hasn’t a clue. Like most childhood friendships he doesn’t really see the woman, just the child. She’s out to change that, she is determined to help him with his injured knee and his anger. If that puts her in the friend category forever, so be it.

Neither of them expected the heat that would explode while traveling to the first Rodeo of the season. Here’s a peek as they get on the road to the first Rodeo of the season.

A heavy weight settled over him. Everything seemed so fucked up right now. He was in the middle of pushing out a big sigh when the truck door opened and Kashley bounced onto the seat, bringing her beachy scent with her.

She took one look at him and frowned. “Uh-oh.”

“What?”

“I know that look. Is your knee hurting you?”

“You obviously don’t know my look, because the knee’s fine.”

“Really?” She jiggled up and down, causing her breasts to bounce too.

He glanced away. “Yeah, it’s looser today. Not as stiff.”

“Must be the turmeric working its magic.” She reached over and closed her fingers around his knee. Extreme heat rocketed up his thigh, and his cock stirred. He pushed her hand away gently, not wanting to cause a fight before they’d even pulled out of the driveway.

She opened her mouth to say something, but Buck appeared at the driver’s window with a shit-eating grin. “You ready, Ridge?”

“Ready as ever. Eager to get on the road. Why do we have to caravan anyway?”

“You know it’s for the cameras. So they can zoom in on your scowl before you flip them the finger.”

He did so now, his middle finger touching Buck’s nose. He slapped his hand away and tapped the side of the truck. “Safe journey. Don’t get any speeding tickets.” He looked past Ridge to Kashley and waggled his brows at her.

Before Buck had taken a step away from the truck, Ridge said, “What the hell was that?”

Buck gave him a crooked smile. “Nothing. Just a little code for Kashley.”

Ridge swung her direction, and she wore a pretty blush over her high cheekbones. Her blue and brown eyes sparkled, though. “Is this true?” he asked her.

“Maybe.”

“Dammit, you’re telling me everything before we even get out of Tulsa. Get your seatbelt on, because it’s gonna take us two-point-three minutes.” He turned the key, revved the engine and stepped on the gas.

She squeaked as the truck launched down the driveway. “Why don’t you have a holy shit handle, Ridge?” She flailed around to find something to grip.

“Got ripped off.”

“By whom!”

“Wynonna. She didn’t like my driving, and you know she’s strong as a bull.” He reached over and yanked her seatbelt, tightening it across her chest. Kashley’s breasts bounced as they careened down the gravel driveway and made a right turn onto the highway.

“Slow down now,” she said.

“Not until you tell me what Buck was doing with that eyebrow code thing.” Shit, she was really bouncing around. Maybe he should slow down. Her breasts seemed ready to pop from her tank top.

His jeans shrank a little.

“I… Ridge!”

He’d done it— her top had worked down enough that he caught a hint of her bra.

Red. Satiny.

Fuck.

He let off the gas and drifted for a long way before the truck hit a more normal speed.

“Good thing it’s flat here. Maniac.” She threw him a look that told him that she’d actually enjoyed his antics. Well he’d known that about her, hadn’t he? She was a thrill seeker, always in the most jacked-up trucks with the loudest engines and the biggest tires.

This story just gets hotter from here. Then of course there are the Buckle Bunnies and the ex-fiance to help screw things up. I really enjoyed this book the Calhouns are growing up one at a time. I can’t wait for the next book!

Target: Tungsten

by Heather Long

blurb-fall-sm

Bradley “Tungsten” Peck. Marine. Lover. Friend. He’s the man who can get anything, find anyone, and accomplish every goal. At least he was, before he lost the only woman who mattered…he won’t stop until he gets her back or she puts a bullet in him.

review-fall-sm

This story starts the second chapter for the Elite Warrior Series.

When the ghosts removed their masks, I think my heart stopped for a moment. When Copper locked eyes with HIM, Tungsten/Brad, I thought my heart would break. Gabriel and Sachi are so good together, I couldn’t grasp the possibility they could end because of Brad. That he had been there all along with the others, watching and protecting and never said a word. Even Merc/John didn’t trust Tungsten/Brad, and they had been friends.

Oddly enough I trusted that something good would come out of this difficult situation.

As the story unfolds with Sachi, Gabriel and Brad in an isolated cabin in Montana, and John keeping watch outside. Deep cover to protect them from someone looking diligently for Brad and possibly Sachi.

But before they can pursue a mission, Sachi either has to choose or they need another plan. This is part of one of my favorite conversations with John and Sachi while they were on a run.

“I don’t want to choose between them. She didn’t and she wouldn’t. In some ways, she’d made her choice. Gabriel allowed Brad to be a part of them, Gabriel let him in, and she embraced the choice because Gabriel saw what she needed. If she had to choose…

“I suppose this means I have to keep his sorry ass alive.” John shook his head at her. “Two men?”

“I’m a demanding woman, what can I say?”

“Greedy bitch.” But he said with a hint of a smile. “Fine. I’ll keep the jackass alive. But one fucking step out of line…”

Closing the distance between them, she gave him a hug. “Yeah, yeah. They’ll never see you coming.”

The question is can the men share her long term? Can she accept them both for forever?

What ensues is a sizzling hot relationship, followed by a yet another difficult mission. I couldn’t stop reading, I had to know what would happen next.

Zinc’s Heart

by Rebecca Royce

blurb-fall-sm

Zinc has nothing to prove–and everything to lose.

review-fall-sm

Zinc wanted one thing from Steele when he took off his mask, the answer to a question. The question – Why did you leave me behind? Like all the other Zinc lost much when he became a Ghost. Only he didn’t have the years of freedom the others had in between.

What happens when it wasn’t answered immediately was painful for both of them. Steele with a broken face literally, that required surgery and Zinc with no relief from the physical and emotional pain.

This book takes off quickly and Zinc’s mission is to get Steele’s sister Sarah out of the clutches of one of Red Wolf’s minions. Walter David. David is, among other things, a stop on the human trafficking pathway.

Sarah a CIA agent was taken for asking the wrong kind of questions about her brother Steele and Zinc’s deaths. Questions that led her to Red Wolf.

Zinc had always been attracted to Sarah, but she was off limits because of being his best friends sister. Now she was being held a sexual captive. His mission is to get her out. A mission that rapidly goes to hell.

Forced to bail on the plane after discovering Titanium’s pilot was working with Red Wolf. Then not able to return to headquarters because of possible infiltration. Sarah and Zinc/Zach are on the run until it’s safe to go in.

Zinc has migraines and issues with wrong words after one due to his healing brain. A favorite passage is from the first stop on their journey.

“Do you know what I meant although I said the wrong thing? Probably if I try to self correct over the next few minutes I will continue to misspeak. So, I’m hoping you know what I…”

As an answer, she placed the keycard in his outstretched hand. “Don’t worry, I speak Zach.”

He laughed at her response, the reaction catching him by surprise. “Then you’d be the only one. I’m not sure I speak me anymore.”

Sarah has always fantasized about Zach, she figured she wasn’t his type.  She couldn’t have been more wrong.  These guys fall hard and fast, Zach is no exception.

The action is intense and the sex is hotter than hot. And all that’s before her brother finds out.

Lithium’s Rescue

by Sabrina York

blurb-fall-sm

He will save her…unless she saves him first.

review-fall-sm

Marilyn is an analyst for a high tech company with government contracts. When she discovers her boss is committing treason, she contacts an old family friend.

When he fails to show, she learns how far reaching her boss’ arm really is. He was watching and listening to her in her home and is sending someone to collect her.

Lithium is sent to collect an informant, and get her safely to headquarters. However, her boss has everyone one of his employees wired and tracked with some very high tech gadgets.

A favorite passage is a conversation they have while traveling to an airstrip.

“Aside from all that, I suspect you’re a perv.” This, she said in a soft, teasing tone.

“I’m not a perv.”

“You made me strip.”

“You were covered with trackers.”

“You watched.”

“I needed to make sure we got them all.”

“”Do you suppose there was one up my ass?”

“Do you want me to check?”

That shut her up. It was a long while before she said, “You rubbed your erection against me.”

“I did not.” His neck heated.

“You did too. Back there in the stairwell. I felt it.”

Prickles danced on his spine. “I was not rubbing my erection against you. I was trying to make you shut up.”

“Is that how you make a woman shut up? A coo. “Rub your cock against her?”

“The idea has merit.” Oh yeah. He could visualize just the thing. The perfect way to make her shut up. Probably not a good idea while he was driving.

I love Marilyn, so much spunk, and Lithium just falls into her traps. Good thing she’s not a bad guy.  Lots of heat in more ways than one. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Thallium’s Submission

by Anna Alexander

blurb-fall-sm
From now on the only orders he will follow are hers.

review-fall-sm

A witness against a gang helping Red Wolf by providing a safe transport from Dallas to Mexico, is due to testify, against her ex-husband, the leader of the gang. Being under protective custody, in a safe house with two Texas marshals isn’t enough. There is a contract out on her and they won’t stop looking until the threat to their passageway is eliminated. This book explodes with action practically from the first page.  The bad guys show up at the same time as the Elite crew and getting Athena out safe becomes difficult.

I mean really who do you trust when everyone around you is shooting?

After a second location is compromised, Thallium takes off with Athena and disposes of all tracking devices even his own. His only thoughts to keep her safe and off the grid until the trial. The man has some pretty cool secrets.

One of my favorite scenes is their first morning together and it begins to show Thallium’s deep need to take care of her in other ways than just protection.

“Don’t get up on my account. I can take care of myself. Besides you need rest too.”

“I want to take care of you. Why don’t you go freshen up while I start b-breakfast?

I need to do a thorough check of  our provisions anyway. Make sure we have everything we need for the next two weeks. I bought you some clothes, but…”

“But what?”

He glanced away as a bit of pink hit his cheeks. “I like the way you look wearing my t-shirt.”

Oh, yeah. She was going to enjoy their time in captivity.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” she said, and picked up the bag he had placed by the front door. “I won’t be long.”

From here on it gets really interesting. I loved the build of this relationship. It’s sweet and it’s hot and you almost forget for a moment there is danger.

Nickel’s Wounds

by Saranna DeWylde

blurb-fall-sm

Hell hath no fury like a Marine who’s lost her way. Beauty was once her currency, but for a woman who can’t feel anything but agony, she has nothing left. Except the vengeance that could destroy the one man whose love could teach her how to save herself.

review-fall-sm

Nickel’s wounds are much deeper than the external ones and not all are from her service. Her need for revenge is intense and in this offering of the series we see the characters as who they once were as well as who they are today. This passage is from Marcus’ thoughts after giving Katarina a massage to help her pain. It really brings his devotion to her and her trust in him to the forefront.

When not on a mission, he preferred to sleep naked, but he changed in to a pair of boxer briefs and slid in to the bed.

She sighed in  her sleep and turned into him, blanket wrapped tightly around herself.

They’d slept together on missions, had huddled together for warmth and safety.

But this was the first time she’d fallen asleep after her massage, in his bed, and had asked him to stay with her.

He stared out into the darkness for a long time before he slept. As close as he was to her at the moment, within a breath of touch, he’d never felt farther away.

Marcus/Tin has to go back to his roots as a gang member to secure an invitation to  Fedir Yukodvich’s Clubhouse . To attend a gathering of heavy hitters in human trafficking buying and selling. The problem, he has to go  in with Nickel/Katarina and is afraid the mission will throw them both into a place from which they will never recover.

Katarina knows this mission can change the two of them forever, but she never imagined the depth of those changes. She gets pain at touch but still uses her body in missions by turning herself off, her way of surviving. Only Marcus can touch her without that pain most times, and only because of their deep, trusting, friendship.

This book had me crying and holding my breath a good deal of the time.  Very emotional and very tense read. I loved and felt every single word.

5 Contented Purrs for Saranna!

Titanium’s Sacrifice

by Jennifer Kacey

blurb-fall-sm

Titanium. Warbucks. Commander. Brother. He is all of those things. And none of them. Giving up everything to save the men and women under his command was easy until it comes to one…last…sacrifice

review-fall-sm

Titanium’s story is perhaps the most emotional of all of the previous. In this one we learn why Titanium is so invested in bringing down Red Wolf, why he has no choice. It caused my heart to ache as I read the explanation as given to Chrome and Steele. The betrayal by one of their own, brought to light as well as the reasons behind Elite Recon being formed and how and why everyone was extracted instead of just Titanium’s team.

We meet Charles the man behind Titanium, the one who takes the weight of the world and his teams on his shoulders with only Poppy, Raine and his precious dog Annie as his support system.

We discover the secret longing Raine has for her charge and see her complete devotion to him not only as a patient but as a man. One of my favorite scenes is when the team gangs up on him and gifts him with a way to ride on a motorcycle again. Which leads to the admission of his love and lust for Raine. This is a little peek.

The crank of the engine turning over and the throaty growl bouncing around the hangar sucker punched him in the gut.

“Coming?” She asked louder than the last time to be heard over the call of the bike. “I’ve been riding for years if it makes you feel any better. No one else is here so it’s totally up to you. No one will make you feel bad if you don’t come.”

“None but those who have bets placed on whether or not I’ll pussy out.”

Her laugh sounded like sex with the purr of the engine seducing him. “Well, there is that but you can deal with them tomorrow. I can handle a big machine between my legs.” She didn’t pause for him to make some funny retort at her innuendo, not that he could have, since his mouth had gone dry. “Take a walk on the wild side, Charles. I promise to keep your virtue safe.”

He took a step forward, reaching for her, and then another.

Her palm slid along his, guiding him behind her. She was already seated and he swung a leg over the seat and sat down. Tucking up close behind her, there was no way she could miss he was hard. “And what about your virtue? Who will protect yours while we’re out?”

So many secrets are revealed on the difficult road leading all of them slowly and somewhat painfully to become a family not by blood but choice.

A story that brings tears and laughter, pain and healing. Keep the tissues close, you’ll need a lot of them.

Bravo, Jennifer! A fitting close to this installment of the Elite Warrior Series. I can’t wait to see what’s next for these amazing men and women.

When Susan was in high school, she never really liked to read, but when she was a child she did. Go figure. It wasn’t until after she graduated that she caught the reading bug. Susan had to go to a book store to sell off her text books and a particular book caught her eye. This book stood out from the other second-hand books because it had a pink cover. It was only a couple of dollars, so she thought, “Why not?” But she couldn’t quite bring herself to read her bargain book. It had a pink cover! Then, after it tormented her for three weeks, she finally picked it up and… could not put it down. Susan finished it in two days! After Google-ing the author and found that she’d written a heap of books for Harlequin Mills & Boon as well as Single Titles. So of course Susan had to buy all her other books! And when she realised that there were other Mills & Boon authors out there, she just had to search out their books, too. And she loved them! Susan got a ton of inspiration from those books. But the most important thing she realized was that she wanted to write those books, too. She wanted to be a Paranormal author! Because let’s face it, who doesn’t like things that go bump in the night?

Healer’s Fate
Paranormals of Arilase Book 1
by
Beth Caudill

SummerSm Review

As I started reading this one, I felt sorry for Corliss until Liam the Alpha’s son stepped up and mated her instead of the jerk Raymond. The consequences of this mating are many. I enjoyed watching the mating bond grow. Corliss was a surprise too as she figures out how to be the future Alpha’s mate. Evil Sorcerer, jealous alpha females and power hungry alpha males combine to make this an addictive read.

Suspenseful and Steamy, has me adding the series to my wishlist.

SummerSm Review

Paul is the Alpha of the Racinitine’s half wolf, half human they interact within human laws. Now two hikers have been killed, it looks like they may have been attacked by an animal. The question is could it be one of his pack or is it the Amorkan pack thought to be a folk lore, a ghost story told to young shifters.

Kinzey is a fledgling reporter, trying to make her way up the chain via the local Gazette. She meets Paul after the initial press conference by the Sheriff, Paul is attracted but he can’t get involved with a human, it goes against pack law. After another body is found, Kinzey starts investigating the area surrounding the murders alone.

There is a lot at stake here for Paul’s pack and he and Kinzey have spent an explosive night together. Lots of intrigue, and no resolution to the murders. Fast paced and I am dying for more.

Reluctant Revenge
Under the Demon’s Skin
by
Xandra James

SummerSm Review

Nash wasn’t happy about being assigned to protect Sienna. He had vowed to kill her for acts committed by her father. Revenge for taking the life of an innocent. It would be so much easier to hate her.Sienna had no idea what was going on. She was on a date, her date disappeared, then she was running from a madman with a gun. Ending up with a man who seemed not to want her with him but was protecting her. That is until he scared her.

Nash knew had had pushed too far when she ran from him, little did he know that was about to change their lives.

I have to say staying out of trouble and safe was not something Sienna was adept at. Not when it meant Nash was taking her home to her father. I felt sorry for her and angry with her family for all the secrets they kept from her. Secrets that would change her life in ways she could not have imagined.

Lots of surprises, extremely hot scenes and fast paced. With an interesting take on vampires, demons and angels. Although I don’t read a lot of books like this it captured and held my imagination and attention.

A Tiger’s Claim

Ashwood Falls Book 1

by
Lia Davis

SummerSm Review

Shay was angry at her father Keegan once again. Arguing over her having some independence had her running. This time though she ran too far from Ashwood Falls and didn’t even realize it.

Travis was following his theory on the way the onyx pack was moving. He was finding a pattern when he heard her screams. Stuck between human and wolf, the mutants killed anything in their path. He had to save the woman who was now unconscious.

Finding his true mate while she was in her first heat was both a surprise and a blessing. Perhaps he could find some peace from his tormented memories. That is if the dominant white tiger accepts him.

We learn much about Ashwood Falls, it’s history and also the history of Travis’ lost pack. We see him with his mother and daughter as they blend into their pack adding new talents and strengths. Many adjustments to a new role both as a tracker and as a mate.

Lots of hold your breath moments and steamy sex. A strong beginning for this new series. One I love a lot.

The Beta’s Mate
by
Bethany Shaw

SummerSm Review

Nina thinks she is looking forward to Logan signing the divorce papers. Convinced he has been cheating on her, with his many disappearances sometimes for days, Nina left him. Unfortunately before the papers can be signed she has to tell him she is pregnant. Once the child is born the divorce can be finalized after paternity and visitation rights are determined.

Logan is his pack’s Beta, second in command under his brother the Alpha. The many times he has tried to make things work with his wife always seem to end with a pack crisis. Since Nina is human he can’t divulge the fact he is a wolf.

This story twists and turns as a threatening pack war bleeds into Nina and Logan’s relationship. As her pregnancy becomes known so does the way the pack treats her. Confused and still in love with Logan she knows she has to make decisions.

I love shifters and how they get so tense and confused when trying to explain to human mates. I look forward to more of this pack. I think they should be able to tell their human mates the truth though. This was so hard on this couple.

The Scarlett Legacy
by
K.N. Lee

SummerSm Review

Wes Scarlett is a wizard and Olivia his wife is a spider shifter. In a war with the Price Wizards for control, the family has had enough and has eliminated the last threat, or so they assume.

Evie is in love with a human Parker. Parker knows about them since his family worked for hers for awhile when they were children. Their love has grown from kindergarten and only strengthened over the years. Now close to graduating from college, Evie needs to fulfill her dreams to leave Woodland Creek.

When the last of the Price heirs comes to town, all appears to be lost. He wants Evie for his own and will go to any lengths to have her.

A tale of revenge gone wild and innocence along with it. It looks like I have a new series to read.

Tiger Time
Alaskan Tiger Series Book 1
by
Marissa Dobson

SummerSm Review

Tabitha was a foster child, she aged out of the system and moved into a small studio apartment across from her best friend Alice. A friend with a penchant for bad boy type boyfriends.

She receives a cryptic message from someone named Ty who says he was a friend of her father’s and wants to talk to her about him. Uncertain as to whether or not to meet with him, her plans change dramatically when Alice arrives at her door beaten and bleeding after telling her boyfriend she is pregnant.

Still running a fever and feeling so tired but unable to sleep she accompanies Alice to the hospital, not leaving until the nurse assures her that all will be well and Alice will need her support more the next day.

Ty was concerned when Tabitha didn’t show to meet him and even more so when he arrived at her empty apartment to find blood on the floor.

Ty has a lot of things to explain to Tabitha not the least of which she is in the process of shifting to a tiger, the last of her line.

This story has a lot of tangles that all lead to one shifter, one who was made not born. As the story unfolds Tabitha not only has to accept she will be a tiger but Ty is her mate. All surrounded by the drama of attempted murder, treason and more.

I will definitely be following this Series.

by
Lily Marie

SummerSm Review

Jenna has come to Pine Heart as their new vet, she is aware there are shifters here and was only a little surprised when one arrives wounded only a few minutes after she has set up her office.

What she didn’t expect was the instant attraction to him and he to her.

Roman’s past has come back to haunt him in a big way, and he knows he shouldn’t be thinking of the new vet as a romantic interest. Not when children both human and shifter are in danger.

A fast paced, gripping tale of love, revenge and forevers. This is another series I will be following.

Hannah

All my life, I’ve only wanted one thing: someone to love me and someone who will let me love them in return. This seems like a simple request, but I was born to parents who wished I had died of childhood leukemia, instead of my younger sister, and who have ignored me no matter how much I’ve tried to please them. I’m starved for affection, addicted to the feeling when someone cares about me, which has led to a love life filled with either boys I’ve scared off, or men all too eager to take advantage of me. I thought I would never find a man who could feed my craving for constant attention—and then I met Leo. He fills the void inside of me, haunts my dreams, and does things to me in bed that are so good, they’re probably illegal. I can only pray I don’t scare him off once he figures out just how needy I really am.

Leo

There are very few people in this world I’ve ever been able to form an emotional attachment to, but the moment I saw Hannah, I knew she was mine. We were bound together by fate, our paths crossing first as children, then as adults, each time marking me. She doesn’t know it but I’ve been watching her for a year now, studying her, stacking the deck so when I do make my move, there’s no way she’ll ever escape me. But my world is a harsh, cruel place, and the cartel I work for demands absolute loyalty and trust…a loyalty Hannah has yet to earn in the dangerous eyes of my employers. There is only one way to ensure Hannah’s absolute devotion, and I hope that she doesn’t hate me forever when she finds out that not only have I brainwashed her into loving me, but that I don’t feel an ounce of guilt about doing it. She’s mine, only mine, and I’m keeping her forever.

Warning:

This story features a rough and demanding Dom who’s completely devoted to bringing his baby girl pleasure through such unconventional means as spanking, mild BDSM, D/S, roleplaying, and various other forms of wicked kinkery.

Summer My Review

Right off the bat, THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! This is a note from Ann at the beginning of the book. She means every single word!
Dear Beloved Reader,
If you’ve read my work before you already know that I’m a filthy, dirty bitch in the bedroom and you’re ready for the ensuing sexy times. For my first time readers, please be aware that my sex scenes do not fade to black, and my characters are not big into missionary under the sheets with the lights off for procreation while thinking of England sex. That said, Leo is a kinky, kinky bastard and even though he’s into Daddy/princess play, in no way-shape-or form does it ever become pedophile/incest role playing.
Instead, the ‘Daddy Dom’ dynamic is one of love and trust, where the Dom enjoys caring completely for his baby girl, helping her grow into a stronger person, making her happy, while giving her the discipline she both needs and desires. This is a consensual relationship between two adults, and in my opinion, Daddy/princess play is a very loving form of BDSM that is caring and full of lots of open affection. Like everything else in life it means different things to different people so what I may find kinky you may find vanilla, and vice versa.
So, get your seatbelt on and your vibrator handy, ’cause you’re in for a heck of a ride.
Ann

Ann Mayburn. ObsessionFinal (Kindle Locations 16-26). Honey Mountain Publishing. Kindle Edition. That said, I loved this book. Once I was able to get my head into the point of view of a cartel family it flowed correctly in my mind. Leo’s heart is in the right place, twisted though it is. Hannah in her own way is almost as bad, with her clingy and stalker tendencies. So it really is a match made in, umm, heaven? The picture painted is that of a loving family with a problem of trust. The opening is going to be hard for some readers to grasp, but reminding yourself this is a cartel family helps it make sense. Leo’s brother’s greedy, selfish, ex wife had her own child kidnapped. The result is not pleasant for anyone.

Leo’s mother wants to find a way to be sure that any woman her sons get involved with will never betray them, and be loving spouses and mothers.

Twisted yes, but Leo does it right. The Daddy Dom in him is perfect for Hannah. She needs love, care and trust. Leo gives her that and more.

Extremely hot sex scenes with BDSM play. Keep yourself hydrated while reading. Ann is superb at writing these. This is a dark romance and one that is definitely worth reading.

Summer Exerpt

As I scanned the dance floor, I was surprised by how many couples were dancing so close you couldn’t slip a feather between them. The sexual energy was thick, and I squeezed my legs when a pulse of blood rushed between them. My nipples tingled and I shifted on the couch, tugging my skirt again to make sure I wasn’t flashing anyone.“Hannah,” Joy said as she elbowed me in the ribs. “That guy is totally checking you out.”

“What guy?”

“That scary-looking one with the sexy hair and psycho eyes.”

“Who?”

“Heavy brow, broad forehead, square jaw, and hair that Thor would be envious over.”

I followed the direction of Joy’s pink-painted fingernail and it didn’t take me long to figure out who she was talking about.

I’d always inwardly snorted when I’d read the description of a woman being struck dumb by the sight of a man, but I wasn’t anymore—’cause I could barely breathe.

He was fascinating, and I found myself unable to look away.

Dressed in a pair of faded jeans that fit his athletic figure like a glove, his body was bigger and stronger than that of any other man around us, including the bouncers. As best I could tell in the club lighting, he had long, thick golden-brown hair that fell to his broad shoulders in messy waves, framing an unusual face that was roughly masculine, all carved cheekbones and thick jaw. Not a pretty boy by any means, or even a boy at all. No, this guy was one hundred percent confident man. His chest appeared impossibly broad and his torso tapered down to a trim waist. Everything about him seemed to reek of health and vitality.

While my gaze wandered his body, my attention was drawn to his solid right wrist, which had a black leather band wrapped around it. I found the sight of that black band incredibly sexy and wondered when the hell I’d developed a fetish for men’s wrists. My breasts grew heavy and this odd…carnal urge began to burn in my belly

The air around me thickened as our gazes met and he strode through the crowd to our table, drawing people’s attention like a magnet. He wasn’t conventionally attractive, his features too heavy, the lines going across his broad forehead too thick, and his nose broken too many times, but he was charismatic in a way I’ve never experienced. I couldn’t blame the crowd for turning to watch him as he stalked towards us. He prowled like a beast and his intense, direct stare turned me on even as his approach made me increasingly nervous.

“Bet he’s got a really thick dick,” Kayla whispered as we all silently watched him.

By the time he reached our couch, we were full-on staring at him, but it was Kayla who spoke first with a flirty little, “Hi.”

Ignoring her, he held out his hand to me and commanded in a deep voice, “Dance with me.”

It wasn’t a request, it was an order, and I felt a sense of almost relief that I didn’t have to worry about making the decision of saying yes or no. How odd. I must be drunker than I thought because I wasn’t alarmed by his domineering manner in the least. Instead, a fuzzy warmth tingled through my body as he kept all of his attention solely on me, despite Kayla’s obvious pouting at being ignored.

After a quick glance at my friends—Joy was staring at him as if he was Channing Tatum doing a full strip tease in front of us—I placed my hand in his, and then tried to jerk away as an electrical charge zapped between us.

The mysterious man gently led me out of the seating area with his hand resting lightly on my lower back, his good manners a direct contrast to his rough image.

Alcohol obliterates the filter between my mind and my mouth so I found myself blurting out, “Why do you want to dance with me?”

He drew me closer, then dipped his face down to nuzzle my ear as he said, “Because you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. What’s your name?”

I desperately wanted to believe him, but a lifetime of being told I wasn’t good enough reared its ugly head and twisted his words inside of my mind, making me hear them as a mocking insult.

“My name’s Hannah, but you don’t have to give me a line. Why did you really ask me?”

He jerked back and looked down at me with a curious expression. “You don’t believe me?”

Anger, mixed with a disconcerting desire, had me tugging away from him. “I don’t want to dance with you anymore.”

When I tried to let go of his hand, his gaze cleared and, for the first time, I felt like he looked at me, really looked at me—then he gave me an utterly charming smile that flooded my panties with desire.

“I guarantee you do.”

Holy hell, I think a small climax fluttered through my clenching sex.

Examining him closer, I was once again reminded that he was a solid man with a presence as big as his frame, drowning me in his heat. When he placed his hand gently beneath my chin and forced me to meet his gaze, I couldn’t find the strength to resist his unspoken control. We studied each other for a moment in the flashing lights of the club, desire curling low in my belly as I drank in his harsh good looks. This was a confident, powerful, intimidating man. The exact opposite of my usual type of guy. I liked smart, quiet, and nerdy. Or at least I used to. My throbbing clit assured me that my tastes in men had changed.

Big time.

Now, mature, dangerous, and built like a professional wrestler seemed to be my preference.

In a way, he did actually remind me of a professional wrestler my cousin used to watch, Triple H. Same heavy brow and deep-set eyes, along with a good dose of menace. The man holding my face as gently as could be was the kind of men others feared, but not me. I had the strangest sense that he’d protect me, if I let him.

He raised my hand to his lips and gently brushed them over my skin, then, when his tongue flicked out to taste me, my nipples became so hard they ached. “One dance. Let me show you how good things will be between us.”

“Will be?” I rolled my eyes even as my panties were wet with desire and my pulse throbbed with growing need. “You sound awfully sure about that.”

“Baby girl, one thing I can promise you is that I’ve never been as sure about anything in my life. Enough talking, I’ve waited what seems like an eternity for this moment. I need to touch you.”

A tremble of need raced through me and the thought and the thought of rubbing my drunk and horny body against his seemed to be the best idea I’d had in ages.

Alexander’s Cherished Submissive

From the moment Alexandr Novikov met the young auburn haired woman bartending at her uncle’s pub in Ireland, he’d been fascinated by her delicate beauty and fiery spirit. Unfortunately, he is in no position to offer her the kind of safe, normal life she deserves so he attempts to put her from his mind for her own good. Something easier said then done when a deal is struck between the Novikov Bratva and the Irish Cleary Gang, an arrangement that includes Alex and his men being on twenty-four hour bodyguard duty with the object of his forbidden desires.

Jessica Venture came to Dublin to spend some time bonding with her birth mother’s family, a connection she desperately needs after losing her adoptive parents within a year of each other back in the States. The last thing she expected was to fall in love with a handsome, mysterious, and sometimes scary man who was well known for his sexual appetite, but rejected her attempts to seduce him. There are outside forces that will do anything to keep them apart, and Jessica will have to make a desperate choice that will change their lives forever.

Warning:
There is light bondage, domestic discipline, spanking, and a F/F scene that is a voyeuristic Doms delight.

Author’s Note:
This is part One of Two for Alex and Jessica’s story. In Alexandr’s Cherished Submissive we get a look into the past and the events that shaped Alex and Jessica into the people they are today.

Exquisite Trouble
Before I met Smoke I’d never been kissed, really kissed, by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart. I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister who is engaged to the club’s President and even crazier mom who only cares about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he’s everything that I should be afraid of.  He’s the kind of man who lives by his own rules and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, but he treats me like I’m something rare and precious, not a socially dysfunctional basket case who has no idea how to love, but needs him more than her next breath.  Not that my feelings matter, because if we don’t find my mother soon, the only thing I’ll have to be worried about is who is going to kill me first.
Note-
This is Part One of Two for Smoke and Swan’s story. The second book, Exquisite Danger, is out now and is the conclusion of Smoke and Swan’s story within the Iron Horse MC series.

Summer About the Author

ann-mayburn-new

Ann Mayburn

With over forty published books, Ann is Queen of the Castle to her husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she’s been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened.

From a young Ann has had a love affair with books would read everything she could get her hands on. As Ann grew older, and her hormones kicked in, she discovered bodice ripping Fabio-esque romance novels. They were great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she’s never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her ‘sexy space’ and has accepted that her Muse has a severe case of ADD.

Ann loves to talk with her fans, as long as they realize she’s weird, and that sarcasm doesn’t translate well via text.
