Summer Blurb

The last of his kind…
Rekkus is the last of the great Black Tiger weres, and he’s happy to stay that way. Working as security for the Wiccan Haus, a magical spa for inner healing, he has enough danger to keep him busy. Unfortunately, the Fates are not content with him being comfortable.

Alone and discouraged…
Dana has walked away from everything—her fiancé, family, job, and apartment. A stay at the Wiccan Haus may be the only way she can move on. But what she finds isn’t what she expects, nor is it what she thought she’d been seeking.

If they can open themselves up they might discover that being together can be better than being alone and learn that passion can burn in those who least expect it.
Meet the unusual residents of the Wiccan Haus.

The staff can get a little hairy, and not all of the guests eat what’s served in the dining hall. But the Rowan siblings do what they can to make the resort a place of healing and peace, using all of their years of practice. At the Haus, where humans and paranormals reside side by side, everyone in need of the services are welcome. If some happens to fall in love then all the better.

Welcome to the Wiccan Haus.

Summer My Review

So let me tell you a little story. One of my favorite authors has a release coming out in this series. It’s not her first one for this series, but it’s the first one from her since I started reading her books. As I pre-ordered I realized I should probably read the entire series to appreciate the book more. One thing lead to another in this Facebook conversation and the amazing Dominique Eastwick sent me her book, the first in this series. I read this book in a single sitting because I couldn’t put it down.

Shifting Hearts introduces Wiccan Haus, a healing spa run by four siblings, the Rowans. The spa caters to both paranormal beings and humans and during a stay they can and do interact somewhat.

Rekkus is the Spa’s head of security and bodyguard to the Rowan siblings.

As the story begins Dana and her friend Jessie arrive on the ferry. Dana walked away from her wedding and her family has now disowned her. Here she hopes to rejuvenate and formulate some plan for her future. She has nothing left at home, not even a home to return to.

Rekkus finds a watch on the path from the ferry dock and with the help of Cyrus one of the Rowans. He finds the owner and proceeds to her room to return it. This is a favorite scene.

Arriving at the room at the end of the hall, he knocked gently. If she slept, he would leave the piece of jewelry on the doorknob. About to give up when there was no answer, he started to place the jewelry on the knob when the door cracked a bit to reveal a bleary-eyed, disheveled woman, whose skin had to be the softest he had ever seen and called to him to touch it. His inner animal roared to life, and Rekkus reared back like he’d been hit square in the solar plexus. She seemed small compared to his six foot five frame. And every inch of him wanted to take her curvaceous body hard and fast and make her his.

“Can I help you?” She lifted a hand to stifle a yawn.

Centering himself to control his beast, he focused on the item he held. “Sorry to disturb you, Ms. Stone, but I found your watch on the path coming from the ferry. I wanted to return it to you.”

She stared at it, confused, taking it from him. Her fingers barely grazed his hand, but the contact burned. “Thank you. I don’t know how I could have lost it.”

Unable to say anything after her brief touch, Rekkus nodded in what had to make him appear a complete moron.

For a moment, her dark-chocolate colored eyes met his, and his breath hitched.

“Thank you. My grandmother willed this to me, and it’s very special. I don’t know how I can repay you.”

Fuck me. Focusing on her lips, he wondered if they were as soft as they seemed and how they would feel on his body.

“Excuse me?” Clearly offended at what he’d evidently muttered aloud and not waiting for him to say anything more, she closed the door, leaving him standing and staring at the brass seven room number.

“‘ Fuck me?’” He groaned. “Rekkus, you are a right idiot.”

Not only had he said the words aloud, but had a sneaking suspicion he hadn’t come across that watch by accident. He also suspected it wasn’t simply what it appeared. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but something in the timepiece hummed with magic. And he’d long ago stopped believing in happenstance.

Walking down the hall, he let out a growl loud enough to shake the pictures on the beautifully decorated walls.

Damn the Fates.
Dominique Eastwick. Shifting Hearts (Kindle Locations 232-250). Decadent Publishing.

Realization that Dana is his mate makes him determined to avoid her. Alas the fates will have none of that. Not only does she find him well lets say it gets hotter and hotter from here.

5 Contented Purrs for Dominique!
