blurb-fall-cornucopia

Ryder and Pepper McCoy are the pampered sisters of the Highland McCoys – Heath, Philip, Jaxson and Tennessee. The brothers have always been over-protective of the girls, vetting every man who is brave enough to even ask them on a date. Both sisters are spirited, giving their brothers a run for their money – but one is about to give them a heart attack.

Two men are vying for the hand of Ryder McCoy, Samson Duke and his brother Gideon. But this isn’t a rivalry, the Duke brothers plan on sharing her. They are determined to lasso, corral, and mark the feisty filly with the DD brand. Resisting one of the Duke boys is difficult, keeping both of them at arm’s length may very well prove to be impossible. But who should she choose? One or both? Could she break one brother’s heart to gain the other? Ryder is torn between keeping the relationship with her family intact and following her own desires. To complicate matters, there’s more going on than meets the eye.

The Dukes and the McCoys may very well have a common enemy. When Ryder becomes the pawn in a madman’s scheme, all of the men who love her will have to work together to save her. Still, entrusting their baby sister to the wild, powerful Dukes is not something the McCoy boys think they can accept.

Will Ryder bend to her family’s and society’s expectations or will she surrender to what her soul and body craves? She soon finds out that true love doesn’t always follow the rules.

Right from the prologue we get a sense of Ryder McCoy, she always had to have two of everything. This is a favorite scene.

“Please, Papa, I want them both,” Ryder pleaded with her father, looking up at him with big, blue eyes shimmering with tears. She clutched two squirming lab puppies tight to her chest. “I can’t just leave one by himself, he would be so lonely.”

Christian McCoy dry-scrubbed dry-scrubbed his face. “Your sister and brothers each chose one puppy apiece. Why do you have to have two?” He let out a long sigh, meeting his beautiful wife’s amused gaze, as she watched on indulgently. “Two horses, two puppies, two dolls. What will be next?”

“Let her have them, dear.” Carolyn sat on a bale of hay, sewing a button on Tennessee’s shirt. “I swear, this boy is so rough on his clothes. He seems to rip off a button every day.”

“All right, all right, go.” He held up his hand and pointed toward the house. “Don’t let me see you with both those dogs up in the bed, Ryder. Make them sleep on the floor where they belong.”

“Yes, Papa.” Ryder jumped up and scampered off, her long, brown braid flying in the wind behind her.

“What’s up with our oldest daughter? She’s never satisfied with one of anything. Two cookies, two chicken legs, two candy bars. Ryder seems to think she has to grab onto everything with both hands or she won’t have enough.”

“All of our children are special, Christian. Ryder has a big heart; she has love enough for two.”

Christian went to his beloved wife and pulled her into his arms. “She must have inherited that trait from you. You make each member of our family feel like they’re the most special person in the world.”
Hunter, Sable. Ryder’s Surrender (Hell Yeah!) (Kindle Locations 53-67).Kindle Edition.

Now she is saved from a rattlesnake by one of the notorious Duke brothers and her world is about to change.

Samson and Gideon know from the start that Ryder is the woman for them. The one they would love forever. Now they have to convince her.

Her father recovering from several stokes, her brothers making her feel guilty and her sister and sister-in-laws standing by her side in what appears to me a never ending battle. That is until her brother Heath makes a mistake in judgement that could have a disastrous result.

This journey to loving two men isn’t an easy one for Ryder and this book had me in tears more than once. I laughed, cried, held my breath and cried some more.

I only have seven books in this series, now I am even more convinced I need to read them all!

blurb-fall-cornucopia

The Montgomery Ink series continues with the brother that deserves a second chance, and the woman who has always loved him.

Alex Montgomery lost his first love and then proceeded to leave himself in the bottle. Only he and his ex-wife truly know why he fell so hard and so fast down a path he never thought he’d take. Now he’s clean, out of rehab, and learning how to be a Montgomery once again—a task that isn’t quite as easy as some of his family assumes.

Tabby Collins is an honorary Montgomery and the organizational mastermind behind Montgomery Inc., the family’s construction company. She loves her planners, friends, and a certain dark-haired man who’s never given her a second glance.

Alex is slowly re-immersing himself back into the world, but the demons he faced before aren’t out of the picture, and he’ll have to learn to rely on others to make it out whole. When Alex discovers that Tabby’s life is in danger, he not only finds a way to help her but also learns the true woman behind the soft smiles he’s always seen. Their romance won’t be an easy one, but nothing this passionate and heart-pounding ever is.

review-fall-cornucopia

Alex is one of the Montgomery Ink series most complex characters. He is an alcoholic who hit rock bottom at his sister’s wedding. Now out of rehab, and sober for over a year, his family is still walking on eggshells around him.

Enter Tabby, well she’s been around for a while. She works with Wes and Shane at Montgomery Inc. the construction business. She is the organizer that helps keep everything running smooth on the outside and handles most of the billing and paperwork.

Tabby has had a crush on Alex for a very long time. Now that he’s sober and finding himself in the process he is even more attractive to her. Alex on the other hand, doesn’t feel worthy of her attention or anyone’s love for that matter.

Alex has taken on a photography job for Montgomery Ink to redo their catalog and website. This is a favorite scene when Alex comes in to take some pics late in the day and only Tabby is in the office.

She licked her lips. “Good, then.” The phone rang. “I have to answer this.”

“Go ahead. I’m going to take a few shots around and see what comes to me. Do you mind?”

She waved him off as she answered the phone yet again, doing her best to ignore him and the way his muscles bulged as he pulled his camera out of its case. Damn the man for being so attractive.

And damn her for not only staring but liking the man beneath, as well.

She took notes once again as the person on the other line relayed their problem, and she tried not to look at Alexander as he snapped photos of empty desks and worktables. When he turned to her with his camera in hand, she froze, her phone at her ear.

He pulled his face away from his camera and looked at her before she ducked her head, embarrassed to have caught him snapping a photo of her. She’d known he would be taking photos of everyone who worked at Montgomery Inc., but she hadn’t really thought about what that would mean for her.

She finished up the phone call as he packed up his bag. “Are you done, then?” He nodded.

“I’m still getting the feel of what the project’s going to look like.”

She shook her head at that. “I’m such a planner that I’d probably have four notebooks already with an outline of what I needed to do.”

“My brain doesn’t work like that, unfortunately. I wish it did since it would probably make my job a bit easier. But with things like this, I can only have a vague idea of what I need until it snaps into place for me.”

“Well, if you ever need an extra notebook if you want to try planning, I have a few dozen.” She closed her mouth as her eyes widened, and she felt her cheeks heat. She hadn’t meant to let him know about that little nugget of her nerdiness.

“Only a few dozen?” he asked with a grin. “You sound like Wes.”

She shrugged. “There’s a reason he hired me.”

Alexander studied her face. “I can see that.”

They looked at one another for a few more moments without speaking, and she wasn’t sure what to say or what was going on. There was…something. Or perhaps she just imagined it.
Carrie Ann Ryan. Ink Exposed (Kindle Location 656-677). Kindle Edition.

What follows from here is a complicated, touching and extremely emotional story of love and trust.

Tabby’s secrets come out as do Alex’s. This one created a lot of tears for me, both happy and sad and of course there was some amazing sex. I love laughing and crying with the Montgomery family with every book I fall in love again.

Bear shifters exist.

Professor Bria Lane has known this since she was a child. Now she’s returned to the forests of Deep Creek to prove it to the world. She has no idea how close she is to that proof in ruggedly sexy park ranger Derek Poole. Intimately close. But uncovering Derek’s wild side comes with a shattering price.

Like a magnet meeting metal, Derek is drawn to Bria. His destiny. His mate. So beautiful and so vulnerable. So dangerous, too: an encroachment of lions, vengeful and vicious, is closing in and they’re ready for war. Now is not the time to be distracted like a lovesick cub.

If Bria reveals the truth of the Deep Creek shifters to the world, she’ll bring out the worst of both sides. But Derek can’t hide his secrets from the love of his life forever. He knows they’re playing with fire–and that when passion runs this hot, this reckless, someone’s bound to get burned.

Lions, Bears and Wolves, Oh my!

The shifter world around Deep Creek is complex. Their world is about to be shaken up by war. The Lions want the Cave of Whispers back in their possession. At one time it was shared by the wolves, lions and bears. Now it is a point of contention.

Dr. Bria Lane believes in shifters, she saw them as a child or she thinks she did. She has returned to where she believes she saw the bear shifters determined to prove her theory. Although her grant says she is studying hydration post hibernation. She hopes to get some DNA that will prove the difference and possible help with human diseases.

When Derek Poole comes upon her camping alone in an unauthorized place in the park, he warns her of the dangers in the area, especially the lions. However he discovers something else as well, the lovely ursinologist is his mate.

Unfortunately, the heirs to the lion pride, Marco and Mason overhear their conversation and plan for her demise. They can’t let anyone leak the secret of shifters. Along with their Father Max they are also planning to take back the Cave of Whispers. This is the war that has been a long time coming and they intend to win. Even by bribing the wolf shifters to help them gain information from the Bears about the cave and it’s contents.

Bria has a problem with lies, and the shifter secret is the biggest lie of omission that Derek could make. He has no choice, but he has to protect and woo his mate. Hopefully she will stay and not say anything about the shifters and accept him as he is.

One of my favorite things about this series is the way the romance builds between the mated pairs. Of course the sex is off the charts hot, but the story around it is just as enthralling.

A favorite scene is when Derek and Bria meet and is in the excerpt below. Be sure to read it.

“What’s an ursus…umm…whatever you said? I’ve always worked with my hands—I never was a college guy. Didn’t have the patience to sit still in the classroom.” Derek kicked at the ground then looked up.“No worries.” She snapped her attention back to what he was saying. “Most people don’t know what an ursinologist is—it’s someone who studies bears.”

“Bears, huh?” He shook his head and laughed. “You study bears?”

“What’s so funny?” She crossed her arms. “It’s a valid profession. And I’m doing what I love.”

“Nothing wrong with it, Bria.” He stepped so close to her she had to look up to meet his gaze, and held his hands up in mock surrender. “I think it’s a fine profession, I’ve just never heard of it. It’s a totally new job that I’ve never heard of. Yet here you are in the woods with me, so I guess we aren’t that far apart, career-wise.”

Derek was in her space and even though they weren’t touching, she felt his presence touching hers, like a low-level energy buzzing in the evening air, crackling when hers met his. One step closer and she could pull that hair band out and hop into his arms, straddling him as she kissed him. She shook her head to clear her naughty thoughts. Ugh. Stop. The thoughts about what she’d like to do to the hot park ranger needed to stop. Maybe she’d been out in the sun too long. Normally she didn’t ogle guys. In fact, she couldn’t remember the last time she had. She cleared her throat and took a step back. “I thought you were laughing at me.”

“No. I didn’t know there was a name for someone who studies bears. Plus, the word sounds kinda funny.” He scanned the forest, thumbs in his belt loops. “I guess you’re in the right place to look for bears, though. Especially this deep in the forest. Lots of them live in Deep Creek. They’re everywhere. Probably closer than you think.”

“I hope so.” Her shoulders lowered and she blew out a breath. “Have you seen any this season? I know they are more active in summer. After they’ve woken from hibernation.”

“I see them every day. I’m out in the woods a lot.” He chewed his lip. “They really only partially hibernate, though. But yeah, I guess you could say I’ve seen a lot of bears here in Deep Creek.”

He’d seen bears. Recently. Her pulse thumped in her neck and she leaned forward, as if being near him would make the bears closer. Excitement rang in her ears. “Where? Can you show me, or at least give me some pointers where to look? I can’t wait to see them.”

“My best advice is to keep your eyes open. You never know when a bear will appear right in front of you.”

My Review of Susan Stoker’s Protecting Caroline – SEAL of Protection Book 1

protecting-caroline

Protecting Caroline
SEAL of Protection Book 1
By
Susan Stoker

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

blurb-fall-cornucopia

**Protecting Caroline is a stand-alone love story. It’s Book 1 in the SEAL of Protection Series.**

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

review-fall-cornucopia

There is no question this is one of my absolute favorite SEAL books.

Matthew “Wolf” Steel, Christopher “Abe” Powers and Sam “Mozart” Reed are headed to Norfolk. They had two weeks before they were scheduled to leave from there on their next mission. Their intention, to spend most of that time with their friend “Tex” a medically retired SEAL. Tex has some truly awesome computer skills and frequently aids their missions.

Caroline is a chemist heading to her new job in Norfolk when she meets Matthew. She switched seats with him so he could be more comfortable during the four hour flight from San Diego. A flight that was destined to be a disaster. That is until Caroline smells something off with the ice in the drink she was served. The three SEALs on board with a little help from Caroline, prevent the terrorists from succeeding. It’s then that Caroline earns the nickname “Ice”.
This is a favorite scene at the airport the day after the excitement on the plane.

Looking around and not seeing any sign of Ice, Mozart said dejectedly, “I really thought she’d still be here.”

“We should probably go and catch our ride,” Abe added quietly as disappointed as Mozart was at not finding the woman who’d saved their lives.

Wolf gave them an incredulous look. “Are you guys blind? She’s right there,” and he turned his back and headed for Caroline. She was standing by herself near a wall with her eyes closed. She was obviously wearing the same clothes as the day before. Guilt hit Wolf hard. Damn.

Even though she looked exhausted and miserable, Caroline looked great to him. Wolf was so damn relieved she was still here he felt his toes tingling. He couldn’t wait to talk to her again. He was so gone.

Abe and Mozart were close on Wolf’s heels as he headed toward her.

“Damn, I didn’t even see her,” Abe apologized to Wolf quietly.

“Me neither, Abe,” Mozart commiserated. “She doesn’t draw any attention to herself does she?”

Wolf reached Caroline first. She hadn’t heard him walk up and he didn’t want to scare her.

“Caroline?” He whispered.

Caroline was in her own world. Imagining she was sleeping in a big bed when she heard her name. Her eyes flew open. Crap. How had someone snuck up on her? She was obviously more tired than she’d thought.

Her brain realized it was Matthew before her body did, but she couldn’t stop herself from lurching to the side and away from the perceived threat. Wolf was ready for her reaction and grabbed her arm to keep her from falling. Caroline could feel his hand brush against her wounded side as he held her arm gently. It took everything in her to not flinch with pain. For some reason she didn’t want this incredible man to know she’d been hurt. Caroline and Wolf just looked at each other for a moment then Mozart and Abe were there.

“Here you are! We’ve been looking for you, Ice,” Abe exclaimed.

“For me?” Was all Caroline could get out she was so surprised. “Why?”

“SEALs don’t leave SEALs behind. Ever.” He said with complete seriousness.

“And? I’m not a SEAL,” Caroline said befuddled.

“Maybe not in truth, but you saved our lives, that makes you one of us in our eyes,” Mozart answered, completely serious.
Stoker, Susan. Protecting Caroline (SEAL of Protection Book 1) (pp. 78-80). Stoker Aces Production, LLC. Kindle Edition.

This was just the beginning, Caroline now has a price on her head. The terrorists want to know how she knew something was in the ice.  She’s not talking not to anyone. We get a little bit of everything in this book a stalking, break-in, witness protection, kidnapping, torture and a love story you will not be able to put down.

review-fall-cornucopia

Amy came to the mountains for peace, quiet and a chane to get her priorities together. Having gotten rid of a controlling abusive boyfriend and losing her job, she wants to go back to true art now. Unfortunately she has a bit of a problem listening to sound advice with regard to staying out of the forest.

Griff is a Bear shifter and a Park Ranger. The forest is the domain of the bears but the lions have been staking it out.
War is coming and the last thing Griff needs is a Mate. But a mate is what he finds when he meets the woman who is renting his old family cabin for a couple of months. Amy is very attracted to her landlord even more so after the shower in the cabin breaks. Then she runs into him at the diner in town. This is a favorite scene.

“Not used to being the center of attention?” He grinned and a hint of dimples showed on his cheeks.

She shook her head. Of course she wasn’t. How could he ask such a thing. Who would answer yes?

“Well, I’m afraid you’ll have to get used to a bit of extra attention, at least for a while. You’re like the shiny new bauble on the Christmas tree. Everyone is going to want to take a look at the pretty new thing in town.” He stared, his eyes dilating. “And I don’t blame them.”

This time she couldn’t duck her head fast enough to avoid the blush rushing up her chest and neck and onto her cheeks. They burned. “I just want to paint. Not be gawked at.”

“Oh, they’ll get tired of talking about you quickly enough.” He flexed his fingers. “As long as you don’t give them something special to talk about. You’re not planning on doing anything wild or strange, are you? Like dancing naked in the moonlight or casting spells in the town square?”

“Of course I’m not.” She sat back. Surely he was joking. People in Oakwood weren’t really going to talk about her. She couldn’t be the only new person in town. In Atlanta, you had anonymity from city block to city block. “I’ll save the moonlit dancing to a night when I have a partner.”
“Is that an offer?” Amy’s mouth fell open, then she closed it. All she could manage was shaking her head no.

He winked. “Then you’ve got nothing to worry about. They’ll be bored with you in no time.”

“Good.” She looked past him at the door. She could make it there in ten seconds. No, she needed to eat before she left. She was too hungry to leave without eating and it wouldn’t kill her to enjoy a meal with her landlord. That wasn’t weird or a date or anything. His flirting, as bold as it was, made her warm and fuzzy inside. Who was she kidding? It made her hot as hell. She squirmed on the seat.
Adrienne, Kerry. Waking the Bear (Shifter Wars) (Kindle Locations 1091-1106). Carina Press. Kindle Edition.

Watching Amy and Griff’s relationship develop was fun, especially since she is human and he has to hold in his feelings. This book really has it all, the lion seeking revenge, a bar fight, a landslide and some really hot sex.

While I realize not all clans packs or prides or whatever they are called based on species can get along, I find myself not wanting this war. The Cave of Whispers was once shared by the Bears and Lions, why can’t it be so again.

MOVING TO LOVE
Rolling Thunder
By
PJ Fiala
Iraq veteran Jeremiah “Dog” Sheppard is looking forward to the annual Veterans Ride, but this year he might be rewarded with more than the usual satisfaction of doing a good deed when he asks the stunning single mother of one of his employees to help with the charity event.
review-fall-sm

Jocelyn “Joci” James is  a free lance Marketing and web/graphics designer. With that in mind her son Gunner invites her to the Veteran’s Ride planning session at Rolling Thunder Motorcycles. He knew his Mom could come up with some great stuff to not only make the Ride more successful the next time but also for the shop itself.

Jerimiah “Dog” Sheppard an Iraq Veteran, owner of Rolling Thunder Motorcycles and Gunner’s Boss, sponsors the Veteran’s Ride every year. The proceeds go to aid local veterans. When he first meets Joci, he knows immediately she was something special and makes a point of getting to know her as they make changes to both his shop and the Ride.

Joci is immediately taken with Dog, he is tall, muscular and incredibly handsome and she almost forgot what she was there for as her son introduced them. As they sat down to get to the business at hand, the last of Dog’s employees LuAnn makes her appearance, flaunting her assets. To say she was not pleased at Joci’s presence would be an understatement at best.

Joci almost immediately proposes a logo for the shop. A necessity to boost recognition for business. Dog loves it and so does most everyone else. LuAnn thinks it’s stupid and doesn’t think he needs it. After the meeting Joci follows him to his office to get one of his cards and when he asked declined the offer of dinner.

A pissed off LuAnn confronts her as she is leaving. Making the claim that Dog is hers and she’s the only one who knows what he needs.  That he asked her out if he is indeed involved with LuAnn doesn’t set well with her at all.

This is only the beginning of the trouble LuAnn brews trying to keep Joci and Dog apart.

While neither of the main characters has been married, they both have adult children. Joci’s son Gunner works at the shop as do Dog’s twin son’s Ryder and JT. As they all work together to bring about a successful ride, a relationship begins between Joci and Dog, even though they haven’t gone on an actual date.

It’s right before the run that things heat up for them and when I say heat up I mean they start sizzling and really don’t stop.

Of course no relationship is without pitfall and this one has some of the worst. We have exes, friends of LuAnn and LuAnn herself all making this extremely trying.

I only had an issue with unrealistic recovery timelines for some medical things that come up. Other than that I loved the dynamic between all the major characters. I look forward to reading the next in this series.

GABE
Alvarez Security
By
Maryann Jordan
Gabe Malloy, former Green Beret, now special investigator stumbled across a beautiful woman in an alley. The chance meeting quickly grew into a mission as Jennifer Lambert was threatened. Letting him into her complicated life, she took a chance on him.
review-fall-sm

Gabe gets the surprise of his life while on a break from his bodyguard duties to actress Alicia Morgenstern. What he thought was a dumpster diving child was instead a beautiful young woman.

Jennifer is looking for a box to put the leftover unused bread and food from the kitchen of the hotel in. The manager donates to her center for the elderly. She never expected to meet a blond haired giant who suddenly has a movie star hanging all over him.

Star-struck and not by Alicia, Gabe makes it his personal mission to find the lovely young woman he startled in the alley. What he finds pleases him and he knows he has finally met the woman he is meant to be with, but he has to convince her of it.

Jennifer is a social worker whose focus is on the elderly. She lives with her little brother at the center she obtained the grants for. Grants that included a 5 year lease. She wasn’t looking for love but she found it anyway.

I love these two together and unbeknownst to either of them the Center has caught the eye of a real estate mogul who doesn’t like to fail and the excitement begins. Lots of sizzling hot sex, family fun and older veterans make this a wonderful read.

ROCCO AND MANDY
A Red Team Wedding Novella
By
Elaine Levine
The past is more real than the present in covert operative Rocco Silas’ broken mind. His girlfriend’s pregnancy should be a joyful event, but it’s more like a nightmare…one he believes can only end one way.
review-fall-sm

Rocco is a broken man, suffering with extreme PTSD with suicidal thoughts even as he tries to put on a normal face to the rest of the world. The things that led him to this dark place in his mind were brought on by being deep undercover in a war torn land.

Mandy his pregnant girlfriend and his band of brothers see through his façade and try to get him the help he needs. When Mandy makes the decision to leave him it breaks her heart and Rocco hits bottom.

As with many healing processes the bottom is a turning point that can go either way. In this case fortunately things go the right way both for Rocco and the abused horse Kitano. While a happily ever after rarely happens as quickly as it does in this story, the journey and the revelations to get there run true.

It was hard reading this story in the beginning. It is an extremely emotional read and one with many tears for the reader. I haven’t yet read the rest of this series and Elaine Levine is a new author to me. So I now have the books on my TBR pile to get to know each of the characters I just met more in depth and prepare for the books I know have to be coming.

ENFORCER
Enforcer Series
By
Ryleigh Rhodes
Small town Texan Claire enlisted in the Marine Corps, survived an IED in Iraq, went through rigorous physical therapy, and made it through med school. Now, after the loss of her beloved husband, she’s struggling to rebuild her life and raise their twins. Her friends rally around, but it’s up to Claire to pick up the pieces, open herself up to love, and truly live once again.
review-fall-sm

Holy Hell! It’s bad enough being pregnant with twins, with your husband deployed and you roped into a celebrity charity golf thing in ungodly heat. But for the Class A dressed military to show up there with the news your husband was KIA, unconscionable.

Fortunately Claire’s husband’s friends Q and Pohl were there caddying. As well as Kristen one of the Football celebs wives, who is also pregnant. She calls her husband Jack who had Q caddying for him and the two of them get the situation under control.

Claire’s life remains hectic as she manages her twins and her residency and finally has her MD as an alternative oncologist. Jack and Kristen have become family to her and as such Jack’s cousin Clay takes more than a passing interest in her.

When her townhome burns to the ground, she moves in with Jack and Kristen. Only to find herself spending more and more time with Clay.

I loved the way this romance developed slowly over time. As well as some of the back stories that come out for both of them. Sizzling hot when they do get together although he does get a bit pushy about her moving in. Twins, dogs and friends antics made this a fun read. This is another series I will be reading from beginning to end.

review-fall-sm

This book jumps right in with Brody kidnapping Kate. His plan, exchange Kate for his friend and partner AJ then get her out too. Unfortunately fate has other ideas, and Kate and AJ are both imprisoned and an injured Brody is left trying to find a way out for them.

I don’t know who I feel sorry for more AJ, Kate or Brody. Every time someone gets free, someone else manages to get them again. Always with Brody on the outside.

As this story unfolds, there is more than meets the eye with this cartel leader and his minions. There are more powerful and far more dangerous things at risk.

And Bonus Story
WHEN YOU RETURN TO ME
Broslin Creek
By
Dana Marton
Maggie O’Connor thought she lost everything when she lost her true love, Cameron Gardner, four years
review-fall-sm

Maggie lives next door to her fiancé and true love’s grandfather. He likes to shoot turkeys from his bathroom window and sometimes scares the living daylights out of her. He can’t see very well and the one thing they have in common is the loss of Cameron four years ago.

As she defrosts and cooks a large rooster to convince the man he has killed his own dinner, she fields a call from a friend Zak, he wants her to go out with him.

Maggie doesn’t believe that what they buried was her Cam. She still hears his voice on the wind and in her heart and cannot give up hope.

Short and somewhat predictable, this is a light-hearted read. I think I might have enjoyed it more had I read the rest of this series.

Maryann Jordan
Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author

I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I “cut my romance teeth” on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma’s Home was created.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.

I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.

When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

I love to hear from readers.

ACCIDENTAL SEAL
Seal Brotherhood
By
Sharon Hamilton
Wrong open house, naked Navy SEAL on the bed, missing Team 3 buddy, gangs, dirty cops, and terrorists. Oh yes, and a love story. S.O Kyle Lansdowne gets lucky, but the path is a very dangerous one.
review-fall-sm

This certainly is a new twist on how not to make a first impression. Although it works out with a lunch date. An almost involvement with a sexy SEAL that turns dangerous before you can blink your eyes.

Dangerous for Kyle because he can’t stop thinking about her and that’s a distraction he can’t afford as he tries to find his SEAL team buddy Armando.

Dangerous for Christy because she not only gets her heartbroken by him but he keeps coming back for more. In doing so he also involves her in his danger as she falls deeper in love with him.

I love this SEAL team, Kyle, Cooper, Fredo, Armando and Chief Petty Officer Commander Timmons. Gunny, owner of the gym they frequent when off duty. He is a Retired Gunnery Sgt. feisty even though he is very ill, he helps the team in so many ways.

I just couldn’t stop reading every turn of the page brought something new and surprising. For the record I’ve owned this book for a while it’s sitting on my TBR pile. It took buying this collection for me to read it. Now I have to read the rest of the series most of which is also in my library. Obviously I’ve waited long enough.

By
J.M. Madden
Brutally scarred in Afghanistan, Zeke Foster has no expectation that he’ll ever find a woman capable of accepting him the way he is. When the damaged soldier with the kind eyes brings some security to Ember Norton’s crazy life, she’s afraid to trust her luck, but his wounded soul calls to her.
review-fall-sm

I absolutely love this book! JM’s characters are portrayed in such a way that in no way do you feel sorry for them you actually cheer them on.

Zeke has had a hard road, with his face brutally scarred, it has also scarred his confidence. He feels unworthy of anything but disgust for his looks.

Ember sees beyond all the scars and sees the man beneath it all. On a personal level her problems are beyond the physical and she finds herself dealing with a lot of changes. Including falling hard for Zeke.

Don’t miss this great story and the rest of the series. Each book gets better and better.

SEAL’S DEFIANCE
Take No Prisoners
By
Elle James
A Navy SEAL and a beautiful aide doctor navigate hostile territory in their attempt to rescue a kidnapped doctor in the Horn of Africa.
review-fall-sm

This book starts right off with an op. Tasked to take out Emir Fuad Hassan Umar who is annihilating villages in the Horn of Africa. An op that quickly goes FUBAR.

On extraction one copter goes down but before it does, Declan “Irish” O’Shea slides out and falls twenty feet to the ground.

Dr. Claire Boyette along with her Somali counterpart Dr. Jamo had taken as many women and children as they could and hidden them when Umar had headed to their village. Now with the activity in the village they moved away from their tents to hide from the rebels. One they were hidden Claire had slipped away to get closer to the village incase the ones they had left behind need care because of the shooting.

One helicopter flew over her head and then a second one headed toward her and was hit and something or someone fell to the ground within twenty feet of her.

From here out story becomes one of survival. Claire prevents Irish from being detected while the rebels searched the area, then hides him in her tent.

When she and Dr. Jamo are taken to the village proper, Irish finds himself in the position of rescuing the lovely doctor.

A journey that leads to the beginnings of love, a revelation of bio-warfare and so much more. I couldn’t stop reading this one and I have to read the rest of this series soon.

PROTECTING CAROLINE
SEAL of Protection
By
Susan Stoker
Caroline foils a terrorist hijacking of an airliner, with the help of three members of a SEAL team, but after she gets home she finds herself still in the sights of the terrorists. She means everything to Wolf, but in order to save her, he first needs to find her.
review-fall-sm

I’ve read this book before and there is no question this is one of my absolute favorite SEAL books.

Matthew “Wolf” Steel, Christopher “Abe” Powers and Sam “Mozart” Reed were headed to Norfolk. They had two weeks before they were scheduled to leave from there on their next mission. Their intention, to spend most of that time with their friend “Tex” a medically retired SEAL. Tex has some truly awesome computer skills and frequently aided their missions.

By
Kathryn Le Veque
When Blakesley Thorne wanted to start a new life in San Diego, CA, she had no idea that Fate would bring her face to face with Cmdr. Beck Seavington, USN. When Beck must save Blakesley in a final showdown, the Wild West reigns and ghosts from the history of old San Diego come full circle.
review-fall-sm

Blakesley and Beck meet in an unusual way. Her daughter Cadee gets swept into the current of the ocean near their hotel. Even as she dives in to get her the SEALs that were training nearby quickly make their way to them. In a flash mother and daughter were in the inflatable and back on the beach.

Cadee, Crosby and Charlotte all wrap the SEAL Commander around their pinkies and he is charmed. He misses his own daughter so as his relationship with Blakeley grows so does his love of her daughters.

This relationship is fraught with deployments, old curses, exes, murder,  and so  much more. Every page adds to the mystery and the drama.

I got angry, laughed and cried, another one you won’t be able to put down. As well as a series I need to add to my TBR pile.

Review of Susan Stoker’s Rescuing Harley: Delta Force Heroes #3

rescuing-harley

Rescuing Harley
Delta Force Heroes #3
By
Susan Stoker

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Video game coder, Harley Kelso, thought a tandem skydive would help her make her latest game more realistic. Instead, it literally put her in the arms of the sexiest man she’s ever seen. Geeky to the core, Harley is the polar opposite of big and burly Beckett, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to play more carnal games with the sexy soldier.

When Beckett “Coach” Ralston offers to fill-in at a friend’s skydiving club, he doesn’t suspect he’ll meet a woman who will change his life—and he definitely doesn’t expect her to save it. But that’s exactly what happens when an accident mid-air forces Harley to land them both safely. She’s earned Coach’s complete gratitude, and even more, sexual interest…

Until she disappears without a trace.

With Harley missing, a happy ending might not be in the cards for the man who loves her—especially when he becomes the main suspect.

Note:
Rescuing Harley is the 3rd book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

review-fall-cornucopia

Once again Susan Stoker takes us on a page turning journey of suspense and rescue.

Harley Kelso and her siblings are close and of course when she announces she is going skydiving her sister, Montesa says no and her brother Davidson says yes. Unfortunately for Davidson she has already scheduled her jump and he will be away so can’t go with her.

When Beckett “Coach” Ralston’s friend Tommy needs a Jumpmaster to fill in at his Sky Diving Club, Coach volunteers to help out while on leave.

Harley is information gathering to make the video game she is working on more realistic. The soldiers she has skydiving in to the battle just aren’t right, so she is hanging onto every word of the videos prior to her actual tandem jump. When she meets Coach is one of my favorite scenes.

Harley tore her mind off of what Coach looked like and tried to bring herself back to his request. She did have questions, lots of them. Coach waited patiently for her to work through the thoughts in her head, and she appreciated him not rushing her. Most people found silence awkward, and jumped in to ask another question or to clarify whatever it was they’d asked, but apparently not this guy. He looked as though he’d stand there forever waiting patiently as she got her thoughts in order.A memory came to her and she smiled.

“What was that thought?”

Harley jerked, forgetting he’d been watching her so intently. “Oh, well, you remind me of a dog we had growing up.”

“Really? This I gotta hear. I’m not sure I’ve ever been compared to a dog before, at least not in the first five minutes of meeting someone.”

Harley blushed, and looked away from his intense gaze, cursing her habit to blurt inappropriate things without thinking about what she was saying first. She hurried through the story, trying to get it over with. “It’s nothing bad, it’s just that we had a dog who was as gentle as could be, and would never start a fight. I felt one hundred percent comfortable with her being around kids, even toddlers. She’d let them poke and prod her, and even pull on her ears, but if another dog snapped at her, she was suddenly all-in, snarling and fighting as if she’d been born to do it. I always likened it to a kid dropping his bags and going whole-hog in a playground brawl.” Harley shrugged self-consciously. “That’s all.”

Coach chuckled, and luckily didn’t look offended in the least. “That’s a pretty good observation. I’m harmless, Harley. I don’t go out of my way looking to get into it with people. But I also won’t stand around and take shit from anyone, or let any of my friends take shit from others. So I guess I am like this dog of yours. When provoked, I’m one hundred percent all-in and will defend myself, or my woman, against someone else.”

Holy. Shit.
Stoker, Susan. Rescuing Harley (Delta Force Heroes Book 3) (Kindle Locations 341-357). Stoker Aces Production. Kindle Edition.

I have to say that as this little adventure continues it has one of the many reasons I will never, ever, jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

From their initial attraction to their first date, the gradual build up of Harley and Coach’s relationship is sensual and fun. Leading into one of the most angst driven scenarios I have read in, well since Susan’s last book anyway. Nail-biting is definitely a possibility as is crying and panting and happy tears.

Her plans are going well until a certain sexy deputy discovers that she’s the rumored demon slayer and is hell-bent on stopping her.

Witch and deputy sheriff, Zach Manus, has run from his past for too long and it’s catching up to him now. He’s determined to keep his dark family secret hidden as he fights for control over his emotions and growing powers. His darker side controlled him once before, and he won’t let it happen again. But the closer he gets to Lydia, the more the darkness threatens to consume him, just as the gorgeous Divinity consumes his thoughts and threatens his resolve.

Zach is powerless to resist her, and while Lydia may understand him like no other, trusting her might unleash a new dark power that could destroy them both and put everyone they love in danger in the process.

review-fall-cornucopia

There is so much going on in this series, first we have the demons and their agendas. They want either the Sinew or to create their own, and they want the Dark Devine adults and children.

The Divinities on the other hand are the protectors of the Sinew and the Dark Divine and want to put an end to this war once and for all.

It seems Zach and Lydia have some secrets, secrets they are not going to be able to hide from the others any longer. But they are fated mates. this is a favorite scene.

He raised his lashes and held her stare. With a smile, he said, “Come on, you can lay him down in the spare room.

She followed him down a short hallway and then turned left into a… nursery. A nursery? Whirling around, she peered at him with a load of questions running through her mind. “This is more than a little creepy. Please tell me you’re not hiding a wife somewhere and that you didn’t lose a child—”

He pressed a finger to her lips, stopping her from saying anything more. “I’ve never been married, and have never gotten anyone pregnant.”

“Then what is this?” She motioned to the room, keeping her voice calm and low so she wouldn’t wake Logan.

He let his shoulders fall as he leaned against the doorframe. “I started on it after Cassia was born. Bethany had a hard time adjusting to motherhood at first and needed a quiet place to stay. So she stayed here with the baby.”

She frowned. “Bethany? I can’t imagine. She’s a wonderful mother.”

“She always has been. It’s more like the witch’s version of postpartum.” Zach motioned Lydia inside.

He was not telling her something, but she let it go. For now. “But why haven’t you taken down the crib? I mean, Cassia is sleeping in a toddler bed now, right?”

“I had a feeling that I’d need it.” He rolled up the sleeve of the blue button-down he wore. When he got the sleeve rolled up to his elbow, he turned over his arm. Lydia gasped, her heart beating so fast that she feared it’d leap right out of her chest. On the inside of Zach’s forearm were faded double roses connected to a vine that held a small bud.

She started to shake, but it wasn’t out of shock. Fear, glee, and confusion consumed her. She’d tried to deny it over the last few months. Hiding her own new faded rose that had appeared next to the Divine Rose she’d been born with.

Zach stepped closer and spoke in her ear. “Yours appeared, too, didn’t it?”

Afraid to speak, she just nodded. There was no use lying to him. He was an empath, he’d know before she spoke the words.
Davis, Lia. Dark Divine (The Divinities Book 3) (Kindle Locations 482-503). After Glows. Kindle Edition.

Things move fast in this book, Samoan causes more trouble and things keep just keep escalating. Loved every page turning minute as the Divinites have more and more to overcome.

My Review of Lia Davis’ Death’s Storm – The Divinities Book 2

Death’s Storm
The Divinities Book 2
By

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Technical genius and demi-goddess—a.k.a Divinity—Khloe Bradenton relies on no one for help, and she definitely doesn’t need comfort from anyone but her twin. After her parents were killed by the demons over two years ago, she graciously accepts her role in the war between the demons and witches. But when a creature far more dangerous than the ones responsible for killing her parents claims he is her guardian and steps in with help she never asked for, she is torn between her desire for the dark predator and memories of the painful loss she endured at the hands of her enemies and from those who claimed to love her in the past.

One of the last Death Demons still in existence, Jagger has pledged his life to the Goddess of Witchcraft, Hecate. Charged with guardianship of the Divinities—one particular spitfire, in particular—he was told never to approach them, but simply to aid from a distance. But when Khloe sacrifices herself to save her twin and best friend and thus becomes the demons’ prey, Jagger has no choice but to reveal himself to her. However, he is taken by surprise when the desire to claim her as his own emerges, and his need for her burns hotter than her Fire. But in the midst of the war, their feelings for each other could prove more dangerous than the demons out to destroy them.

review-fall-cornucopia

Let’s recap a bit, we have two missing Divinities, The younger divinities have bonded and they have the Sinew and it’s protector the One of Hecate’s HellHounds Teddy-Bear<giggle>. Things have been quiet but the Divinities know something is going to happen. They know Kahn and his son Demetrious are not going to stop until they get what they’re after, the Sinew. There’s also Samoan, Demetrious’ daughter, she really hates Kalissa and Khloe and loves trying to best them. She has now targeted Khloe and the things she does have very interesting results.

Khloe has a shadow, she verified this while shopping with her sister Kalissa and the very pregnant Lydia. Now as they are leaving the mall she senses something much darker than the shadow she’s discovered and sends Kalissa and Lydia home while she stays to fight.

The fight turns out to involve a lot more demons and more powerful ones than Khloe expects and even with the help of her guardian she ends up cuffed to suppress her magic and seriously injured.

Jagger and his brother Jax are the last Death Demons and have sworn fidelity to Hecate. As such they have been appointed by her to protect the Divinities. When Khloe is almost captured and cuffed under his watch. Jagger is forced to reveal himself to her and the decision is made to keep the twins apart until they know why the Demons want them.

Then the Oceanway Coven is attacked and Dark Divine children are kidnapped. So much for keeping Kalissa and Khloe apart. This is a favorite scene.

Glancing to his temptress, he noticed Khloe dart off across the small community. A double take had him rushing after her. The twins were supposed to stay separate. What the hell was Kalissa doing here?

With quick strides, he made his way to the twins, who were locked in a tight hug. The rush of panic subsided as he observed the females. Frozen in place, he watched as magic swirled around them in iridescent waves.

“Ayden Daniels.” Kalissa’s mate stood in front of him with his hand extended.

Jagger gave a short nod and accepted the other male’s hand. “Jagger. I guess there’s no way to keep them apart.”

Ayden chuckled and sent his woman a hungry gaze before speaking. “No. They’re a package deal.”

What the hell was that supposed to mean? Khloe was his to claim. His body coiled with possessiveness, and he had to stop himself from carting her far away from everyone until she agreed to be his mate.

Ayden flicked his gaze back to Jagger, brow raised as if the man had read his mind. Then with a shake of his head and a smile lifting the corners of his mouth, he explained. “I meant that they can’t be separated. Lo is my sister now, and my bond with Kalissa ties us together, too. It was pretty weird at first.”

Ah, that made sense. Magical twins had an unbreakable link. They were a part of each other. Through Kalissa and Ayden’s mating bond, Khloe was also tied to the couple. And her future husband would complete a quad circle of power.

This newfound acknowledgement raised alarm in him. The trio was a powerful force, one the demons wanted. Were they trying to snag one to lure in the other two? Possible. He wanted to take Khloe’s arm and drag her back to her condo until he could figure out their next step.
Davis, Lia. Death’s Storm (The Divinities Book 2) (Kindle Locations 980-996). After Glows. Kindle Edition.

This is the beginning of so much more. We learn more about the captured divinities, the twins parents, the birth of Lydia’s child and what the demons are after.

Khloe and Jagger are the main focus and his parentage is very interesting too. How these two get together is a big part of the suspense.

This is a series that is not to be missed.
