blurb-fall-cornucopia

Tristan Trillo has one steadfast rule—thou shalt not fish in the company pond. That puts his executive assistant Shannon Weiss firmly out of reach. He tells himself the secret steamy computer simulations he creates—ones featuring a seductress with more than a passing resemblance to Shannon—are enough. But watching the virtual Shannon get spanked or tied up, taken from behind or while down on her knees, just makes him want the real Shannon more.

When Shannon discovers the depth of Tristan’s desire, she vows to seduce him in real life, his rule be damned. After a blazing, illicit tryst in Tristan’s office, he insists they can never do it again. So Shannon, ever the obedient assistant, makes certain the next time she seduces him, they do something completely different.

Poor Tristan is a man trapped between his steadfast rule and a burning passion. A rock, if you will, and a very hard place.

review-fall-cornucopia

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I thought it couldn’t get hotter than Adam’s Obsession, but let me tell you, Tristan and Shannon take that flame to blue-white hot.

I don’t know who I felt sorrier for Tristan with his “thou shalt not fish in the company pond” rule that he is trying so hard not to break. Or Shannon who has lusted after her boss from the moment she laid eyes on him.

Shannon is Tristan’s Executive Assistant, and other than fantasizing about her boss, she excels in this position. So much so that when she doesn’t come in to work, everyone suffers. She makes the best coffee and no one else’s can compare. This is extremely important in a Tech company.

With quarterly reports due Shannon is home with a sick Bosco and needs her computer so she can finish up the reports for the following day’s meeting. This leads to Tristan bringing he computer to her, with an interesting meeting with Bosco. However, he makes a mistake and she gets his instead. Oh what interesting things develop from this.

Jack’s game has a secret ‘Green Room’ where you can personalize your own fantasy scenes. It seems both Tristan and Shannon have exercised their access to that program, which is of course password protected. That is no obstacle for either of them.

From virtual game sex to the actually act. This book will have you squirming in your seat and panting for more.

I really can’t wait for Jack’s story now. Although I fear for my kindle if it gets even more sizzling than this.

Don’t forget to read the excerpt below it’s a favorite scene.

An Irresistible Temptation…

It was nearly ten that night when he finally broke down and called her. He used the phone, because they’d already done the computer thing, and he’d insisted that couldn’t happen again. The phone, for some reason, he could justify.

It took her a moment to pick up, though he knew she was home. He could see the light streaming softly through her windows as he stood on the bluff overlooking her house.

“Hello?” Her voice was soft, watery. Like she’d been crying.

“Shannon?”

“Tristan.” She fairly breathed his name.

“Are you all right?”

She sniffled. “Oh yeah. I was just, um, watching a movie. How are you?”

“I’m… good.” It was a lie. He was hungry and antsy and annoyed. “I’ve been thinking about you.” Like incessantly.

“Have you?” Her sniffles seemed to have cleared up. He watched as she stepped out onto the patio, wearing a terrycloth robe, cell phone in hand and looked up at his house. He sketched a wave.

“Yes. Have you been thinking about me?”

“A little.” He heard the smile in her voice.

“Just a little?”

“Okay. A lot.” She sat on a lounge chair and pulled a blanket over her lower body. It was a cool night and her legs were bare.

“Did you just get out of the shower?” Something started to simmer in his groin.

“The bath.”

He groaned at the vision her words created in his head. “Did you have bubbles?”

“Not tonight. But I could do that, if it would interest you. I’d let you watch.”

“Would you?” He liked that idea. He liked it very much.

“Did you touch yourself while you were in the bath?”

She chortled. “Of course, Tristan. But do you know what?”

“What?” He was breathless with curiosity.

“I’m touching myself right now.”

“What!” He nearly dropped his cell over the cliff. Jesus. There. On the balcony. Outside.

“Yeah.” She moaned deep and low. He swore he could see her fingers undulating inside that robe, under the blanket, a quarter mile away. In the shadows.

“Shannon, Jesus. You’re killing me.”

She didn’t reply, but he watched as her knees rose to points in the distance as she shifted her body. A random observer would have no idea that the woman relaxing on the lounger was slipping her fingers deep inside her body, but Tristan knew. He knew with a visceral jolt to his solar plexus as he heard her groan, the sharp gasps and the tiny little whimpers of pleasure. “Hell.” He squinted his eyes in a vain attempt to see her better. There in the dark. A quarter mile away.

“Oh yes.” Her voice was like velvet. “I’m so wet for you, Tristan.
I’ve been thinking about you all day and I want you in me sooo bad.”

“Do you?” Hell. He wanted that too. More than fucking anything.

“Mmm. Do you know how hard my little nub is? It’s like a stone. So hard. So swollen. It feels so good when I touch it. I wish you could touch it. I wish you could lick it. I wish…”

But Shannon was talking to herself. Tristan had severed he connection and was heading for the door, his car keys and his hard on making twin bulges in his jeans.

Her investigation into the deaths of her parents sends her straight into the middle of an ancient war between witches and demons. After a near-fatal accident, a childhood friend, Ayden Daniels, comes to her aid and triggers visions of a past she doesn’t remember, sparking an old flame and new desires. With their history slowly becoming clearer, Kalissa eagerly sets her sights on mending Ayden’s heart and gaining his trust—until a ghost from her past returns to claim her as his demonic mate.

While investigating a series of Divinity murders, Ayden, the new sheriff of Maxville and grandson of the oldest living Divinity, comes face-to-face with the one woman he hopes to have little to no contact with. Old pain rises instantly and is quickly followed by anger and resentment. Through his rare power of adaptability, however, he learns that things from his past may not be what they seem. review-fall-cornucopia

Once again Lia Davis has created a world to get lost in. While mostly like your average places to live today, Maxville is a not only a small town it is a coven, surrounded by wards to keep those that would harm out.

There is a lot going on in this book. To begin with Demons are killing off the Divinities. Created by the Goddess Hecate they are tasked with protecting the Sinew, source of the Divinities Power.

Divinity twins Kalissa and Khloe lose their parents to a horrible car accident that was caused by a demon. Eighteen months later with no investigative results from their friend, empath, witch and deputy sheriff Zach they decide to go through their parents things for clues.

What they find leaves them with more questions and instructions to be followed. In the process of following those instructions, Kalissa is involved in what could have been a fatal crash.

At his cousin Zach’s request Ayden, also a Divinity, who is traveling to Maxville to take the position of sheriff, goes to Kalissa’s aid.

Years ago Ayden was sure he was her magical mate. The one he would spend his immortal life with, but she turned from him and claimed another was. Leaving him heartbroken and angry.

A favorite scene is at the hotel after he pick her up from the hospital.

Her reaction to him at the hospital was that of an old friend seeing him for the first time in fifteen years. Buried pain resurfaced. But he couldn’t resist touching her. It had gone downhill from there.

She was the same Kalissa he’d fallen in love with over fifteen years ago, but she didn’t remember him. Ayden, like the rest of his family, was empathic. Being a Divinity only amplified the empathy, and, combined with his very rare power of adaptability, gave him the ability to pick up on others’ feeling and thoughts. He’d grasped on to Kalissa’s gift of visions and had used it with his empathy to see into her mind. And into the past. There was a hole in her memory. His anger dissolved into confusion. Hope sparked into a tiny flame. That flame grew with every minute they were together. Who would erase her memory? Better yet, why erase her love for him but  not all of him from her memories? How in the hell was that even possible?

The main reason for invading her memories, besides being a selfish bastard, was to find out why she’d dumped him for someone else so many years ago. He hadn’t expected her memory to be altered.

Is this my second chance? Can I trust her with my heart again?
Davis, Lia. Forgotten Visions (The Divinities Book 1) (Kindle Locations 421-431). After Glows. Kindle Edition.

It becomes apparent at this point that Ayden and Kalissa are definitely true magical mates. Yet with no real memories it’s going to be a struggle. They both have to pick up packages from the same place and the full mission for the divinities becomes clear, well as clear as mud for a while.

Lots of action with demons, elves, a wood nymph, more Divinities and OMG laughing so hard, Teddy-Bear!!

This is a must read for fantasy lovers, romance lovers and yes, shifter lovers too!

review-fall-cornucopia

It doesn’t take very long for sparks to fly after firefighter Luke Puckett saves his once college flame Josie and her daughter from their burning home. Luke doesn’t want to accept he still loves her, not while he believes their was something between her and his brother. This in spite of the fact his brother repeatedly told him otherwise. This is a favorite scene as Luke goes to the hotel to see Josie. It shows how really conflicted his was.

Heaving a sigh, Luke paced the lobby of the hotel, determined to go up to Josie’s room and apologize for what he’d said. How was he going to do that though? He couldn’t just barge into her room and tell her he didn’t really love her.

Because it would be a lie. The instant he’d had her in his arms again, that burning ember of passion had flared to life once more. It had almost cut his heart out to leave her in college, but he couldn’t have her lusting after his brother. Couldn’t have married her, wondering at every family function if the pair were stealing a moment together.

Ryan wouldn’t have done that.

What makes you think Josie would have? He took another turn past the vending machines and steeled himself for what was to come. Heading on to the elevator, he punched the button of her floor. The unit lurched upward. He leaned against the wall and flexed his fingers. They were still a little sore after the fire. He really should wear gloves but they were so obtrusive. And he wouldn’t have felt her body through them as he carried her and the little girl out.

Maggie, she’d called her. A child born to an unknown man whom Josie had fallen in love with and committed herself to. What had happened between them? Had her gaze wandered from him too?

The old betrayal seized Luke’s chest. He’d carried this grudge against Ryan for too long. Thank God he’d never allowed it to come between him and his brother, because Ryan’s life had been too short, and Luke never would have forgiven himself for something like that. It was bad enough carrying it inside all these years. He’d thought the anger long-ago dead, but Josie’s appearance had resurrected it, like opening a door only to find a wall of flame ready to surge out and capture him.

Did he really want to go through with this? He could ride back down to the lobby, walk out of the hotel and never see her again. In a city of this size, it was possible. And now he didn’t know where she lived.

“No, I’m doing it,” he said quietly to himself. His shadowy reflection on the silver wall didn’t tell him anything about how he looked, but he could guess. He looked like a fucking mess— exactly the way he felt inside.

The doors yawned wide. Automatically he looked right and left, down each hall, a part of his training as inherent as breathing. He could no more stop himself from checking for danger than he could stop himself from loving Josie.

He strode down the hall, keeping his steps even. If not, he’d break into a run. The urge to see her again was that strong. What was it about her that sucked him right in? The streaky blonde waves curling over her shoulders, heavy and full of body? Her full breasts and hips tapering to an impossibly tiny waist between? Even after bearing a child, her waist was still trim, though slightly rounded in a way that enflamed him more than ever. But more than her appearance, he remembered her laugh and her sweet-as-honey disposition.

Fuck, he had it bad.
Petrova, Em. One Fiery Night (Firehouse 5 Book 1) (Kindle Locations 202-228). UNKNOWN. Kindle Edition.

Josie doesn’t really want to love Luke, but he has held a place in her heart even throughout her failed marriage. When she finds out the real reason he broke it off in college she is more than just angry she is fuming.

review-fall-cornucopia

Living alone on an isolated ranch, Carrie can’t afford to take chances. When a violent storm causes her to investigate outside she is confronted with a huge black wolf. On instinct alone she shoots it and buries it. But was it really a wolf, could she believe her eyes. Finding a claw on the ground she puts it away, not really wanting it but not wanting to go near what she buried again.

Even though he knows joining up with the Tao pack is best for him and the others in his pack, Roark finds he can’t, not yet anyway. He needs closure, he needs to find whoever killed his best friend and bring them to justice. All he has to go on is the telepathic image Jared sent him before he died. Drew has generously granted him time. With only that image in his mind he has to find where Jared died before that time is up.

Driving through a heavy downpour on his way to help the pack with the move, the vehicle he’s driving hydroplanes into a ditch. With no cell service he treks through the rain to a ranch arriving shivering and drenched.

The night reminded Carrie of that night long ago and she almost let the shivering man walk off instead she invited him in and fed him steak. This is a favorite scene taking place after dinner.

While she headed up the narrow stairs, he followed with heavy, masculine footsteps. Something about him reminded her of… the face, the lightning flash image of the creature who rested in her field. She’d never forget what it looked like or any detail about the awful night. Never stop wondering what in the heck she’d buried. At least once a week, she had a nightmare about it and awoke drenched in sweat. It was nice to have company even if she was probably a fool for allowing it.When he gripped the banister from behind, she noticed the fingernail was missing on his left pinkie.

“What happened to your finger?”

He pulled it away. “Just a little tangle with a buffalo.”

Her mouth opened in surprise, but she closed it again. Obviously, he made it up. The imperfection made him more appealing. They passed the master bedroom first. Except her, Roark was the first person who’d seen it since her father’s death.

She hoped he wouldn’t think she was strange for keeping Daddy’s things the way he’d left them— his leather pipe pouch, cowboy hat, and even a half-empty bottle of aftershave. When so many things had changed, why not keep something the same?

“Your father’s room?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“It’s nice. Why don’t you move in there?”

She fingered the buttons on her shirt. “I like my room fine. I’m used to it.”

When they passed it, he glanced inside. She hadn’t changed it much from her girlhood. Posters of horses, faded now, still adorned the walls. He’d probably think they were silly, too. Why on earth was she sharing the sacred privacy of her home with a stranger? There was something special about him she couldn’t explain. It felt as if she’d known him an entire lifetime.

Did he sense it, too?

“Here’s the guestroom.” She scurried to the bed to beat the dust off the pillows.

He tossed his wallet and keys on the nightstand. Then he laid his warm hand on her shoulder, too lightly to offend. Instead of shaking it off as she had earlier, she rotated under his touch, secretly craving more.

“You don’t have to go to any trouble,” he said. “Everything looks very comfortable.”

“All right. Let me know if you need anything else.”

His fingers drifted over her collarbone, up to her chin. “There is one more thing.”

“What?” Her throat was so tight her voice erupted in a croak.

“A kiss. May I, Carrie?”

Without consulting with her brain first, her head nodded.

When he leaned down, his black hair tumbled forward. It must have slipped out of the rubber band. Without contacting her with anything but his mouth, he brushed his lips against hers. A flame erupted inside her with the power of a gunshot. She knew she’d never be the same.

He straightened, fixing her face with his questioning dark eyes.

“Again,” she whispered.

He gripped her cheeks with strong hands as his mouth closed in on hers, harder. Longer. His square jaw brushed against her face, sweeping her into a cyclone of sensation. She gave herself to him and the kiss, lifting weak and shaky arms to tangle her fingers in his glossy hair.

He smelled heavenly, like spicy oranges cooking in a scorching canyon. His lips parted, unleashing a hot, questing tongue she felt down to her toes. You’re mine, it said.

Yes, yes, yours. All yours.
Locke, Afton. Rebel’s Claw: Black Hills Wolves Book 22 (Kindle Locations 355-385). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

There’s a lot more going on here then meets the eye. All of which needs to be resolved. It kept me in suspense and wondering how on earth these two could possibly get together. A fun, fast and sexy read.

blurb-fall-cornucopia

After suffering an unspeakable childhood tragedy, firefighter Tanner Canagan uses his wolf shifter powers to rescue other helpless victims. But no matter how many people he saves, the dark history of his past prevents him from getting close to anyone. He doesn’t deserve to fall in love, especially not with a woman as gorgeous and amazing as Jordyn.

As a paramedic, Jordyn Lowe saves lives on a daily basis. As a wolf shifter, she’s dedicated to her pack. And as a woman, she’s head over paws in love with Tanner. Despite her own painful past with men, his tortured soul doesn’t scare her away. They just might be able to forge a union destined to last forever—if only they can both trust before it’s too late that their broken hearts can heal one another.

review-fall-cornucopia

Tanner has definite commitment issues as well as problems with anger. Anger caused by events he had no control over. Fighting fires is one way he deals with his past, shifter fighting is another.

Jordyn is a calming influence on Tanner, she is his mate but he refuses to acknowledge that fact and insists on a no strings relationship. As a paramedic she sees Tanner every day and while it soothes him it tends to make her wolf push for more.

This was a favorite scene that takes place after Tanner steals a kiss from Jordyn after a fire.

“That was a nice surprise,” she said, managing to keep her voice cool and steady. Tanner was awesome, but she’d gotten a good enough sense of him and his natural restlessness in the past ten months that she was wary of feeling anything more for him.One heartbreak in a lifetime was enough, thank you very much.

He nodded against her head, the scratchy roughness of his bristling cheek and chin scraping against her face with the deliciousness that always made her tremble in response.

She expected him to make his usual offer next. To meet at her apartment in town after both their shifts were over for a long night of pleasure and the oblivion they both craved. The words he said instead startled her, causing her to drop back and look at him in the darkness with her wolf enhanced sight.

“I need to fight tonight. Come with me?” He sounded tentative for a second. “You know I always fight a lot better if I know you’re watching me,” he added in a low, almost off-handed growl.

Jordyn’s wolf paced and whined throughout her mind, worry and a funny little sense of protectiveness emanating from her. Jordyn stared at Tanner for a long moment, trying to read his face. But he’d reverted back to being just as contained she was. She rarely saw what was really going on with him play across his expression. Only when they were in bed together.

But a wicked smile lanced his mouth into a lascivious grin. “I’ll make it worth your while afterward, sexy.”

Despite herself, Jordyn laughed, shaking her head. “You’re incorrigible. But of course I’ll be there. Why tonight? It’s not your usual m.o. after a fire.” Tanner usually worked off his steam at fires, needing only the sensuous bubble of the two of them wrapped together afterward rather than a fight.

He stepped back. Glancing down, he took a breath before looking right back at her with his stunning mahogany brown eyes, clearly visible to her despite the darkness. She felt herself melting all over again.

Until his next words. “Jordyn”— and the use of her full name gave her pause as well—“ I’m leaving.”

It was like a gut punch. Her wolf sat up and howled in her mind. Jordyn knew she looked out of her eyes, which would be close to glowing with her wolf so close to the surface.
Harper, J.K.. Dallas Fire & Rescue: Fire Wolf (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Black Mesa Wolves Book 6) (Kindle Locations 164-186). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

Both of them know for a fact they are mates and denial just keeps them from completing the bond. That and Tanner’s need to relocate make him a very frustrating character.

I really would have liked to see some interaction with the Dallas team in this one. All we saw was couple of mentions of an opening on the team and Tanner thinking of taking the position.

There were many editing errors in this one. Missing words, tense and more, very disappointing.

4 Purrs for J.K. and 3 hisses for editing.

By
Jamie Sterling

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Hunter Mitchell is convinced that he will never find a woman with whom he can share his interests in sensual bondage. But when he meets Stephanie Lynch, a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, he hopes fervently that his search is over. As they explore their relationship, they are both delighted that Hunter’s desire to tie her up is something that Stephanie is very eager to explore.

Just as they are starting to learn about everything that bondage and restraint can offer, Stephanie is rocked to her core when she receives terrible news that Hunter is not the wonderful man that he seems to be. Only after she abandons him and the relationship does she discover the horrible mistake she’s made. She wants to fix things, but Hunter, angry and hurt, now wants nothing more to do with her.

Can they reconcile their differences and resume the relationship that has stoked their passions?

review-fall-cornucopia

I found this book just a bit slow at the beginning but that did change. There was a lot of technical information about astronomy, but given Stephanie has her doctorate in that field and is a professor at the college I guess it was somewhat necessary.

Hunter on the other hand is a technical writer in finance. He has a couple of hobbies a Hockey league for one, plus fishing and astronomy. A public event at the observatory is how he meets Stephanie.

I really liked the way the relationship developed with unique dates over the course of a few weeks. The excerpt below is a favorite scene after their first date.

The way Hunter is reluctant to reveal his kink and how Stephanie handles it was fun and sensual.

There is a twist that took me totally by surprise. One that I wasn’t sure how it could possibly be resolved.

I laughed, held my breath and bit my nails a bit. I also learned a lot about astronomy, not something I expect in a romance novel.

I did find a couple of editing errors but not ones big enough to pop me out of the story.

Congratulations, Jamie!

4 Contented Purrs for Jamie!

Stephanie’s Monday morning disposition was legendary among her co-workers. Even the most hardcore of the academic team dragged their asses just a little bit down the halls of the university as they faced the prospect of a long work week, but Stephanie never, ever failed to have a disgustingly fresh face and a pleasant grin at the ready. Some of them admired her for it, some hated her, and most were envious.

But even those accustomed to such bliss took an extra second to stare at her today. She looked radiant. The more perceptive women noticed that, although she had on very little makeup, her skin seemed to glow. The men, especially those whose social skills had suffered from years of Spartan scientific pursuit, wondered yet again if her friendly acknowledgment was an invitation to ask her out. Of course, none of them would. Stephanie was, at least in their eyes, quite unattainable.

She reached her cluttered office and noticed that she had a voice mail. It was not unusual. Her graduate students seemed to panic about a paper or a lab assignment somewhere around four in the morning. These messages were often quite humorous, as desperate, sleep-deprived students on deadlines came up with the oddest concerns. She could laugh at them because she had been there many times herself.

She pushed the button on her phone.

“Hi, it’s Hunter. I just wanted to let you know that Saturday night was great fun, in spite of all my wise-ass remarks. I like spending time with you, and a haunted house was definitely a different experience for me. I have a funny feeling there might be more odd destinations if I keep letting you pick where we go on our dates.

Oh, yeah…Theodore says you’re a good sport and he’s sure you’ll get me back sooner or later.

Anyway, I’ll catch up with you soon. You can call if you’d like, of course. See ya.”

Stephanie noted that he had left the message before 7 a.m., meaning he’d had the presence of mind to take a moment out of his morning routine to do so. She pressed the message button again, wondering why she felt the need to hear Hunter’s voice again. Then a third time. And again. With her focus fully on his words she didn’t notice Brenda standing in her doorway. “How many times are you going to play it?” she asked, making Stephanie jump in surprise.

“Geez, Bren! How long were you standing there?”

“Long enough to see you play it twice and hear it once more when I was walking up. Who’s Theodore?”

Stephanie explained the extensive joke to Brenda, who laughed. “That’s pretty creative for spur of the moment,” she said.

“Yeah, I was totally freaked out until he admitted it, and then it was funny.”

“I’ll bet,” Brenda replied, entering her office fully and closing the door. “So, what else happened?”

Stephanie explained his other actions in the haunted house. When she relayed how Hunter had purposefully derailed their sexual liaison and his reason for doing so, Brenda looked puzzled, much as Stephanie believed she had looked on Saturday.

“Do you believe him?”

“Yeah,” Stephanie said. “I mean, he has to be serious. What kind of guy stops things right at the brink of having sex, especially for the first time with a new woman?”

“The gay kind,” Brenda said, raising her eyebrows.

“I thought about that,” she replied, “and I even kind of alluded to it with him by making a joke.”
“How did he respond? Was he defensive?”

“No, he laughed it off. It just doesn’t fit. He was turned on, as much as I was. I guess it’s possible he has some sort of sexual dysfunction, or some kind of phobia about sex, but I’m quite certain he likes women.”

“I hope you’re right.”

“I am,” Stephanie said, confident in her opinion. “You know, as odd as it sounds, maybe he’s just an honest and romantic guy. I think women get conditioned to look for the hidden meanings in what men say. What if we’re looking for a curve ball when all he’s doing is throwing a strike right down the middle?”

“I am a bit of a cynic sometimes, aren’t I?”

“We all are a little bit,” Stephanie answered.

“True. I think I have to meet him in person. Then I can give you a much better assessment. You know—to see if he’s a ‘man’s man!’” They both laughed.

“OK, I’ll set something up soon. Promise.”

“Cool. I have to go, we’ve both got stuff to do.” Brenda made to leave the office, but stopped. “I hope, for your sake, that you’ve got a good read on this guy. But just remember, if you are waiting for him to throw a strike, and that ball curves even a little bit, your home run swing won’t be anything more than a big ‘whiff.’”

about-the-author-fall-cornucopia

I write because I have to. I’m the type of person that needs to get information out of my head, and since my friends don’t want to hear me talking all the time, I have to write it down.

I’ve thought about writing in one capacity or another since I was in the fourth grade, when I won a creative writing contest. I don’t remember the topic, but I clearly remember thinking it was fun to create stories.

Ever since then, I’ve been writing something, usually something to which I could relate. When I was younger, it was stories about me – usually performing heroic and noble feats.  Later, I started writing newspaper articles, technical documentation, short stories for myself, or anything that I felt needed a few words – like this section.

Now I’m a romance novelist. It’s honestly the last genre I expected to write, but when I took a stab at it, the words just flowed onto the page – at least at the beginning. Sure, there were (and will be) times when I struggled to make things flow, but my first novel – Captured Hunter – is the result.

I plan and hope that others will follow soon.

blurb-fall-cornucopia

A love is born from the flames…

What if you survived a car crash, but others didn’t? Would you carry guilt? Or be grateful that you survived?

For Brooke Winslow, she is faced with the demons of that tragic night when her world turned upside down. Until one cowboy steps into her life…

review-fall-cornucopia

I truly love seeing Sable Hunter’s McCoy family through the eyes of different authors.

In this book we meet a distant relative of the McCoy’s, Tuff (Ted) who works on Tebow Ranch but lives in the guest house on the Winslow farm. Together with his brother Danny and sister Chelsea they all helped out the owner Miss Beatrice when they could. Now she is gone and the fate of the farm and their home lies in the hands of her granddaughter.

Brooke survived an accident in which the person at fault and her daughter died. She has scars both inside and out most from the accident and one from after. Although she is in a better place now, she is still hiding from others and herself. She needs a change, even her doctor sees that.

That change comes in an unexpected way. Her grandmother Beatrice died leaving her the farm she has only childhood memories of. She always wondered why her grandmother never reached out to her. Now she was going back there but she is determined  not to stay. She’s going to fix up what needs to be fixed and sell the place.

There is an instant attraction between Brooke and Tuff but true to form Brooke fights it. She doesn’t want to get close to anyone, doesn’t want to reveal anything about herself. It’s a good thing Tuff is the persistent type.

Rhonda hits some sensitive issues in this one and handles them very well. The budding romance, her attitude toward owning the farm, and her interactions with Tuff’s siblings all become milestones.

A perfect example of why I absolutely love the McCoy’s and everything I read of Rhonda’s. The excerpt below contains a favorite scene, don’t forget to read it!

He hurried and dropped down on his knees beside her. “Sweetheart, are you okay?”

She didn’t answer him, just continued to stare.

“Oh shit!” He grabbed her up into his arms and easily carried her through the front door. He sat down with her in his lap on the rocker and cradled her close, her head tucked on his shoulder, her even breathing in his ear. He gently combed his fingers through her hair. “It’s okay, baby. You’re okay. The fire is out. You’re safe.” He kissed the top of her head, her forehead, her cheek, and quickly on the lips, tasting saltiness. He lifted her chin, seeing the moisture from tears. “Brooke, tell me what happened.”

Her bottom lip trembled and more tears fell. His heart jerked in realization that he couldn’t stay away from her if he tried. He was bound to her. She gave her head a jerky shake. “I-I can’t…”

“Yes, you can. You’re safe with me,” he whispered, massaging her neck to ease the tightness he felt there.

“The pan, it caught on fire…I don’t know…the flames. I tried to save her. I did.”

His gut twisted. They were no longer talking about the fire in the kitchen. “Tell me, baby.” He comforted her. “Tell me everything. I’m here.”
