Reviewing the Black Hills Wolves #21: Omega’s Heart by T.L. Reeve

Omega’s Heart
Black Hills Wolves #21
TL Reeve

When the wolf is away…

Five years ago, Max Reaper walked out of Kole Silver’s life forever, leaving behind a broken omega.

Kole doesn’t believe in love anymore. He keeps to himself, leading a solitary life until stumbling upon an injured human, Jasper Hill. An instant attraction explodes between them, becoming an unbreakable bond. There is no choice—Kole must claim the man as his own.

When Max returns to take possession of what is rightfully his, a situation he’d never imagined greets him. Angry with himself and with his mate’s betrayal, he wrestles his wolf who demands he take action—to claim his mate. But will he be able to accept Kole’s new human companion, or will his mistake of leaving five years ago end up biting him in the ass?

I don’t read much MM let alone MMM, not because I don’t enjoy them but because somehow I feel like a voyeur. That said, this one tugged my heartstrings in many ways.

Max was yet another wolf who left to protect his mate from the wrath of Magnum. From the previous books we know how Magnum treated women and for a gay male? I could just imagine the horrors he would have imposed.

Kole is an omega, and he often punished harshly by Magnum because he kept his telepathic sister Gretchen and any of the younger girls he could out of reach. On top of that he was missing his mate. It’s been five long years and now with Drew as Alpha the pack is healing and so is Kole.

Jasper is human, apparently he was out hiking when he fell onto a ledge where Kole frequently runs. This is a favorite scene.

As he came to the ridge overlooking the bluffs of craggy rocks with wisps of sage and grass, the dark outline of something on the rocks below caught his eye. He scented the air for potential danger, but found only the sweetness of sandalwood and the rusty copper of old blood. The scents clawed at him, demanded he descend to where the darkened figure lay. Kole took the little path to the left and followed it until he stood over the male. Sweat, blood, and debris covered him. His chest rose and fell as though he slept peacefully under the stars. After taking a tentative step forward, Kole nudged the man’s cheek then licked it, trying to revive him.

How long had the man been out there? Why hadn’t anyone else seen him? Or helped him? The scent of sandalwood grew thicker each time he buried his nose against the man’s neck. Whoever he was, the guy belonged to him, and didn’t that beat all. After five years of hermitting himself away, all it took was going for a run. The pull grabbed him by the balls. Like with Max, the need to claim and mark this man rode him hard. Shouldn’t he feel bad? Like he was betraying Max? He licked the man again and whined while snuffling his cheek. The man groaned and turned his head.

“Go away, Hercules,” he mumbled. “I don’t want to get out of bed.”

Who is Hercules? Kole licked him again, and the man burrowed further, admonishing him once more. With a final nuzzle, Kole retreated a step and allowed the shift to come over him. His bones realigned with ease, and within moments, he crouched next to the man. “Hey, can you open your eyes? I’m here to help you,” he said, while taking in the hint of red stubble-covered cheeks marred by blood and dirt. His cropped red hair also had patches of dried blood as well.

He traced the contours of the man’s face while staring at him. The man’s full lips parted, and a soft groan passed them.

His brows furrowed, and the scent of pain masked any hint of his true smell. “Where is Hercules?” The man, caught somewhere between a hallucination and reality, reached out for his dog.

“I’m not sure,” Kole answered, still staring at the man. “Did you bring him with you out here?”

“Out here?” The man blinked several times and peeked through strawberry-blond lashes. Piercing-green eyes greeted him. “What the hell?” The man tried to sit up but hissed in pain. “Son of a bitch.”

“Easy,” Kole murmured. “How long have you been out here?”

He blinked and swallowed hard. Kole kicked himself for not having any provisions available. “I’m not even sure where here is.” He took a deep breath and coughed. “I went for a hike, and that’s about all I remember.”

“Did you fall?”

“I think I got lost. Where did the dog go?” Red asked.

“You mean Hercules?”

“Hercules?” The guy shook his head. “No, Hercules passed away a long time ago. There’s another one though. It licked my cheek.”

“Ah, the wolves. You know there are tons of wolves around here.” Kole hated lying. “One of them led me to you. Upside, we’re a quarter of a mile from my truck. The downside, we have to walk out.”

“A wolf led you to me?” A rough chuckle passed his lips. “That sounds so mystical.”

“You are on Native land here.” Kole smiled. “Things are not always as simple as they seem.”
Reeve, T.L.. Omega’s Heart (Black Hills Wolves Book 21) (Kindle Locations 48-76). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

It doesn’t take long for things to heat up and just get hotter by the second. Then Max returns, with a story he’s not ready to tell and a deep seeded need to claim his mate. He just didn’t know that Kole had found another true mate.

Much has to be decided both on Jasper’s part and Max has to find a way to accept Jasper and come to terms with his own story.

This was a very emotional story and I cried more than once. I really love Drew, his acceptance of his wolves no matter what and allowing humans, thanks to Ryker’s mate, makes this series a must read.

My Review of Cowboy to Command by Sabrina York with Excerpt

The Second Sexy, Stripped Down Novel!

Cowboy to Command
Stripped Down Book 2
Sabrina York

Just south of Fort Worth, Texas, you’ll find a little ranch where the hot, toned cowboys are ready and eager to take it all off and make your naughtiest fantasies come true…

Satisfaction is the name of the game at the Double S Ranch, where the men are more than willing to play. They come from all walks of life, and each has their own reason for dancing for a lady’s pleasure.

A former Navy SEAL, Brandon Stewart started dancing after an injury in the field put him out of commission. The power he commands when a woman’s eyes are locked on him makes Brandon feel like the man he used to be. But when he meets Porsche, Brandon has never felt more stripped bare.

The spirited beauty needs a handsome fake boyfriend to make another man jealous. But Brandon is determined to prove to Porsche that pretending with him is nothing compared to the real thing…

Includes an exclusive preview of the next Stripped Down novel, Spurred On.

Porsche was determined to make Cody see her as something other than his best friend Ford’s little sister. She has been in love with him forever. Now she thinks she has a way to get his attention and love. Make him want what he can’t have.

Brandon saves the inattentive Porsche from a bull, and she finds the perfect fake boyfriend in him. He agrees to help her if she helps train his new puppy, Dougal. However, he has an ulterior motive, he wants her, and not in any sort of fake way. All he has to do is get her to realize she isn’t in love with Cody.

A fun filled read, with lots of things for Porsche to come to terms with. Cody has some things sort out as well. Loved Dougal’s puppy antics and Brandon, well he’s the guy dreams are made of.

The excerpt contains one of my favorite scenes so be sure to read it.

Dougal scampered around them, chasing dust whorls, but Brandon’s attention was on Porsche’s face. He was loath to let her go. “So, did you and Claire come up with any brilliant ideas?” He wasn’t truly interested, but this was as good a ploy as any to keep her here. For a while longer at least.

Porsche threw back her head and laughed. Her eyes sparkled and her parted lips tantalized him. “No. We got distracted.” She leaned closer. “We often do.”

“What distracted you?”

She pinned an innocent look on her face. “Lisa was making profiteroles.”

“What the hell are profiteroles?”

“Choux à la crème,” she said with a wave of her hand.

He laughed. “Still in the dark.”

“Cream puffs.”

Now that he understood. “I should probably go visit the kitchen.”

“Good luck with that. Claire’s in there. We call her Hooverlips.”

“That is hardly kind.”

“Maybe not. But true. She does love to eat.”

Dougal spotted another dust whorl and shot off in yet another direction. The leash wound around their legs and they, perforce drew closer. And damn, he loved the feel of her pressing against his chest and groin, her smile, her laugh as she fell against him.

She gazed up into his eyes and said, “I think we’re trapped.”

“I think so too.” But he could hardly complain. Until she tried to wiggle free.

Then again, he did like the wiggling.

They both laughed as they became even more inextricably entwined and then, all of a sudden, Porsche froze. Her gaze, wide and welcoming, snapped to his. “Oh, kiss me now,” she gushed and his heart thumped. She wrapped her arms around his neck and went up on her tiptoes and pursed her lips.

Though he was hardly disinclined, he was surprised. What had incited this sudden and incongruous passion? He stared at her in shock as his body went on point, hummed, trilled with exhilaration and excitement.

“Hurry,” she said. “He’s watching.”

He’s watching.

Well hell. His mood plummeted. He should have realized. He should have expected as much. He was a fool for thinking she suddenly wanted to kiss him.

He was struck with an immediate anger, and at the same time, a scorching determination.

Kiss her?

He’d give her a kiss she would never forget.

He took her cheeks in his hands and tipped her head a bit to the side and stared at her. “Are you ready?” he asked in a whisper.

She blinked. “I…ah…yes.”

But still, he waited, staring at her lips, so full and lush. He’d waited so long to taste her, the anticipation itself was delicious. Slowly, he lowered his head and he brushed his mouth over hers, a tease and nothing more. Then he did it again.

Good God, she was delectable. Soft, sweet, a velvety heaven. She tasted of sugar and a hint of chocolate with an undertone of…Porsche. He wanted to sink into her. Consume her.

So he did.

He deepened the kiss, investing in it all his desire, his hope, his passion.

And God help him, she responded.

She tightened her hold and pressed against him and made little mewling sounds that set his body on fire.
He leaned into the kiss, bending her back, grasping for all he could reach.

It became a conflagration, a wild storm swirling them both in a savage whirlwind of gargantuan proportions that was—

An annoying voice came from his left. Brandon attempted to ignore it.

He lifted his head and stared down into Porsche’s eyes. He was gratified that she seemed dazed and boneless. Really gratified when she reached up for another kiss. And that, of course, set him off again as well. He couldn’t get enough.

Not ever.

“Hello? People? That’s good. You can disengage.”

Claire—for that was who it was—attempted to pull them apart.

“But Cody’s watching,” Porsche murmured, snuggling in closer.

“He’s gone.”

To Brandon’s disgruntlement, she eased back, still staring into his eyes. “He’s gone,” she whispered.

“I heard,” he said. But he couldn’t resist one more kiss. Just one.

And damn it all to hell. Why hadn’t Cody stayed just a little longer?

My Review of the Talon Pack Book 4: Wolf Betrayed by Carrie Ann Ryan

Wolf Betrayed
Talon Pack Book 4
Carrie Ann Ryan

The Talon Pack continues with the daughter of a traitor, the man who can never be her lover, and another man she should never want…her enemy.

Charlotte Jamenson was born to the Pack that threatened the world, but grew up in the one that saved it. She’s spent her entire life repenting for lies and faults that were never hers to bear. When she falls for her best friend, Bram Devlin, she thinks she’s finally found forgiveness for the blood in her veins; only a mating bond never came.

Bram knows there’s something missing within his mating with Charlotte, but there’s nothing he can do about it. Their Pack is in danger, and it’s his duty to protect their Alpha—even if it means sacrificing his life. When he’s put in charge of protecting a new member of the Talon Pack, he realizes he and Charlotte may just have a chance at something more than heartache.

Shane Bruins sacrificed his life and his future to protect the Packs from the men he worked for. Now, thanks to circumstances beyond his control, he’s not quite who he was before, and his life is on the line yet again. Only this time, he isn’t alone, and the two wolves in his path might be the only things that can calm the beast inside.

The war isn’t coming, it’s here, and the Talon Pack will have to rely on three souls who know they aren’t what each other wants—but exactly what they need—to win.

When Charlotte and Bram’s mating attempt failed to produce a bonding they went back to being friends, it just wasn’t the same. They still love each other and it really hurts that the bond didn’t appear. With Charlotte still battling the heartbreak of that, Finn’s wolf tells him that she is needed in the Talon Pack.  So she travels with Finn and his mate Brynn this leads into my favorite scene.

A man’s scream echoed off the walls, and Charlotte’s wolf moved forward, ready to fight.

“What the hell?” Finn growled.

“That’s why I wanted you here,” Gideon said with a sigh. “We have a new Pack member.”

Charlotte’s eyes widened. While it was not uncommon to bring in new members of the Pack, they were in the middle of a war, and turning a human probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Not that she’d tell a very dominant Alpha wolf that.

“Seriously?” Finn asked.

“What happened?” Brynn said.

Gideon pinched the bridge of his nose. “He is— was— a soldier, working under Montag.”

Charlotte hissed. Montag was the General who had killed dozens of wolves in the name of science. He tortured them to discover their secrets and was one of the loudest opponents against the wolves’ right to live at all.

“I don’t know what happened exactly, but we’re going to find out,” Gideon continued, giving Charlotte a curious glance. “He saved Ryder and Leah and risked his life to do so. Then he showed up at our borders and saw through the wards.”

“Holy hell,” Brynn whispered. “Ryder told me about the human that saved him, but I didn’t know who it was.”

“He’s also the man who saved you from that bullet, FYI,” Gideon said to Brynn. “But he’s not human anymore.”

“You changed him?” Finn asked.

Gideon shook his head. “No. That’s the thing. He smells of wolf but he isn’t yet. He was dying, and the only way to save him was to bring him into the Pack. He’s not wolf. He’s not human. He’s something… different. The humans made something, Finn, something that could destroy us all if we’re not careful. I don’t know what to do with him.”

Another scream. This one louder.

“He’s in pain,” Charlotte growled. She didn’t know this human, didn’t know if she could trust him. He was a soldier— the enemy.

Gideon nodded. “And there’s nothing we can do to calm him. He’s here because Walker is trying to help, but no matter what we do, nothing seems to work. I’m at my wit’s end here.”

Charlotte was listening, but her legs had started to move without her thinking. She moved toward the source of the screaming and sucked in a breath at the sight of the man on the bed. He was chained at his ankles and wrists, but from the gouges in his arms, she figured the restraints were for his own safety.

His veins stood out prominently, and he thrashed under the blanket he wore to cover him since he didn’t seem to have a stitch of anything else on. He screamed again before his eyes snapped open and met hers. His nostrils flared, and his body went rod-straight at the sight of her. Gradually, his breathing eased, and the cords on his neck softened.

Her wolf pounced, pushing at her to go closer.

But she couldn’t. Because she’d heard a word on the wind she shouldn’t have. The one word that could break her.

“Charlotte?” Finn asked. “What is it?”

She looked at him, her body swaying. “My wolf…” She pressed her lips together and pushed past him and the others so she could breathe once again.

“Charlotte,” Finn said once again when he came to her side. “He’s your mate, isn’t he? That’s why my wolf told me to bring you. Because he’s here… because you needed to be. It’s fate, isn’t it, Charlotte? It’s a twisted, fucked up fate.”
Ryan, Carrie Ann. Wolf Betrayed (Talon Pack Book 4) (pp. 12-14). Carrie Ann Ryan. Kindle Edition.

This is just the beginning of many fascinating revelations in this book. Not the least of which is the possible Triad of Bram, Charlotte and Shane. War was not around the corner it appears on their doorstep.

We also see Brandon as he struggles with his need to find a mate and briefly Ashley who has been helping the wolves after realizing the evil her father was doing.

I couldn’t put this down, so much was going on and I laughed, cried, held my breath and fanned myself over some of the most sizzling triad scenes I have ever read.

Adam’s Obsession
Wired Series Book 1
Sabrina York

Hopelessly shy and utterly repressed, Katherine Hart slakes her taboo desires online, where the anonymity allows her to indulge without embarrassment. Her virtual lover, Savage, is willing to meet her every need, especially once he discovers her naughty little secret—more than anything, she craves a masterful man. Fortunately, Savage is just that. And then some.

When Adam Trillo—aka Savage—discovers the shameless, erotic woman he’s been tangling with online is actually his demure coworker, he’s determined to seduce her in real life. He longs to release the wild Kat he knows lurks just below the surface. With a relentless mix of domination and persuasive charm, he draws her into his web until she’s helpless to deny their mutual passion.

Particularly when she’s tied to his bed.

Seriously, I am surprised my Kindle didn’t melt from this book.

Katherine likes a little kink but hasn’t met anyone to trust enough with that fact. She dresses conservatively at work and follows the rules meticulously after having to leave her last job because of an inter-office romance. She hears some co-workers talking about a chat site and joins. There she finds Savage who gives her exactly what she needs without having to be close.

Adam has been burned by a cheating wife and is relationship shy, so he joins a chat site that he overheard some co-workers talking about.  There he finds Wildkat who enjoys his kind of play. He likes being anonymous as he gets what he needs.

As our tale begins Katherine’s late for her nightly chat with Savage, she got caught in traffic because of the rainy weather. When he does answer her chat he is annoyed, but turns up the heat on the conversation right away. He suggests she needs to be punished for keeping him waiting.

When a big project causes late nights, Katherine cancels her chat with Savage and Adam starts to suspect that the seemingly straight-laced Katherine is his Wildkat.

I loved the way every revelation is made, the suspense was killing me to see how these two would come together. It’s a good thing there is an excerpt that I love, because I really couldn’t choose a favorite scene.

I laughed, panted some and wanted to slap some of the co-workers. Definitely one of the hottest books I’ve read this year.

Her Internet Lover…

“There’s something I want you to do.” His voice was low, hard; a certain, intense timbre vibrated through him to her, thrumming over the computer connection.

“Yes,” she breathed. “Anything.”

“First, what are you wearing?”

It was all Katherine could do to hold back her laugh. “Not that again.”

“Seriously. I want an answer.”

She shrugged. “A cocktail dress. Black. With heels.”

“Put on your teddy,” he commanded, and she complied.

She slipped off her dress and bra, dropping both on a forgotten pile on the floor, and then pulled her satin teddy from her suitcase. It felt cool slipping over her skin. It caught on her hard nipples, making them grow even fatter. She moaned as she rubbed them, you know, just a little, to enhance the mood.

“Mmm. It feels good.”

“Are you wearing the teddy?”

“Perfect. What do you have on under it?”

“Nothing. Well, panties.”

“Perfect. Do you still have the heels on?”

“Yes.” She did. As much as she hated them, she loved the way they looked. Besides, the heels completely changed the way she felt in the black teddy. In the full length mirror behind the door, she looked practically sexy.

“How do you look?”

“I’ll bet.” The words were guttered, heavy and harsh. “I wish I could see you. Now. There’s something I want you to do.”

“I want you to go and get two ice cubes.”

“What?” Was he insane? She’d have to walk all the way through the hotel suite to the kitchen. “In my teddy?”

“Savage, he might see me.”

“What if he does? Maybe he’ll fuck you. That’s what you want. Isn’t it?”
Katherine didn’t answer.

“Isn’t it? Deep down, you want him inside you.”

Again, she didn’t respond.

“Answer me.”

“Yes. Yes.”

“Then go to the kitchen. In your teddy. And get two ice cubes. Oh. And Wildkat?”

“Before you go, take off the panties.”

“Take them off. I want you completely exposed. And I want you to know how exposed you are.”

“I can’t.”

“You can. If you don’t, I’ll have to punish you.”

“No Kat. No questions. Just do it.”

She stood by the door for several minutes, contemplating this challenge and, most especially, how it made her feel. She was liquid inside, and quivering. She would, she decided at length, go to the kitchen and get the ice cubes wearing her teddy, but she would leave her panties in place. Utterly bare-assed was a little further than she was willing to go, especially when Adam might discover her at any moment. Besides…Savage would never know she had cheated just a little.

Slowly she turned the knob and peered out into the hallway. There was no one there. She slipped through the shadows and into the living room, heading toward the kitchen. She pushed open the swinging door and froze.

There stood Adam Trillo cracking out ice cubes at the counter. His chest was bare—a magnificent panoply of rippling muscles and scattered darkling dust. He wore only baggy gray sweatpants held up, it seemed, by the enormous bulge in the front.

“Hey there Wildkat,” he purred. “What took you so long?”

My Review of Freakn’ Out by Eve Langlais

Freakn’ Out
Freakn’ Shifters Book 7
Eve Langlais

He’s broken in body and spirit, but she’s not giving up.

Leave me the hell alone. Is that so freakn’ hard to grasp?

Yeah, Derrick is angry, and bitter, but with good reason. His army buddies should have left him to die instead of dragging him out of the rebel camp–and he meant drag. Shrapnel to his back ensured his legs are useless hunks of meat. Everything below his waist is useless.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, fate just has to kick a wolf when he is down and send him the curvy and luscious Janine. According to his inner beast, she’s his mate. Not happening. There will be no claiming because Derrick isn’t about to saddle anyone with half a man.

Problem is, Janine, with her fiery red hair and tempting curves, won’t leave him the hell alone. She thinks she can fix him. And a part of him, the part that refuses to give up hope, is tempted to let her try.

Can she teach this broken wolf new tricks–including bedroom ones–that will make him howl once again?

KindleLogo Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002 AreLogo

Derrick is impossible, no therapist has been able to reach him, his wolf is angry and close to the surface and now he has only one last chance before the Council makes a decision that could end his life.

Janine kind of knew what she was getting into when she was assigned to be Derrick’s new therapist. What she didn’t know was that she would be so attracted to him. She wasn’t going to let him get away with hiding himself away, not anymore.

I really loved the interaction between these two, the problems Derrick has are real in so many cases. Janine took everything he threw at her in stride and gave it right back to him with a twist. This scene at the pool is one of my favorites.

On the list of things Derrick shouldn’t do, dragging his new therapist into the water was probably one of them.

It’s her own damned fault.

Telling him she liked the look of his body. A bald-faced lie. Had to be. What woman would find a man whose legs had lost so much muscle mass, and dangled limper than noodles, sexy?

What of the scars scoring his skin? Red lines. Bold spots. Jagged lightning leaving behind ridged skin. Most of his wounds had healed nicely, except for those drawn with silver. Those took much longer to heal, and they crisscrossed his body, telling a story that he couldn’t forget.

And Janine saw them all. Saw all of his imperfections, didn’t recoil from them, called him attractive, and then, to add even more insult, she offered him a helping hand.

She thinks I am weak.

Awoo. He almost howled with the indignity of it. Instead, he didn’t think. He acted. More like yanked on the hand she dared extend.

She surfaced with a screech. “That’s freakn’ cold!”

Treading water beside her, he couldn’t help but feel a faint tug on his lips. Surely not a smile? He clamped his teeth tight together. “It’s refreshing.”

“It’s f-f-reezing,” she managed to stutter through almost blue lips.

Hmmm, perhaps the little human was more fragile than he expected. Too bad. “Next time don’t stare.”

“How about next time you don’t try and drown me?”

“You aren’t in any danger.” At this end of the pool, the water had a depth of just under five feet, and if she stood on tiptoe, she could keep her head above water.

“This is not how you are supposed to treat people,” she chastised. “Especially not those trying to help you.”

“Guess that was wildly inappropriate. Some would even say violent. I guess you’ll have no choice but to ask for reassignment.” Somewhere far away from him so he wouldn’t have to fight the urge to lick her each time he saw her.

She slogged toward the shallow part of the pool and the stairs. Despite the chatter of her teeth, he heard her clearly. “You won’t get rid of me that easily, wolf. Actually, I should thank you for this bonding experience.”

He blinked. Tried to figure out her logic, but couldn’t. “What the fuck are you talking about?” Perhaps the cold had affected her mental acuity?

“Part of building a rapport with your therapist is sharing experiences. Mind you, I think my teachers meant more of you sharing your past with me so we could work through it, but if you ask me, sharing a polar dip can also work. Just so long as you don’t expect me to share my ice cream sundaes. Some things are best savored alone.”

“Your logic is whacked.”

“Maybe. And you’re also not as crazy as you want people to think.”

And it just gets better from here. So many problems and so many attempted solutions, including a messed up ex boyfriend who won’t leave Janine alone. I really hate men like that.

I did a bit of crying in this one, the way they both kept denying what their hearts and instincts were telling them, damn. I couldn’t put the book down I really needed a happy ending that I couldn’t determine how would happen.

Hello, my name is Eve and I am a Canadian author who loves to write hot romance, usually with hot shifters, cyborgs or aliens. I should warn you that I possess a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing.

I love to write, and while I don’t always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

Thanks so much for coming by and checking me out. If you’d like to know more, read some excerpts or find out what’s coming next, then please visit me at any or all of the sites listed below.

Release Blitz and My Review for Hot Seals: Love & Lagers by Liz Crowe

Love and Lagers
A Hot SEALs/Love Brothers Crossover Novella
Liz Crowe

When the founders of the Guardian Angel Protection Service realize the success of their business requires the assistance of an organizational pro, they hire one of the first applicants for the job. Lainey Jackson gets straight to work, while managing to avoid personal interactions with any of the powerful men around her. She spends her days helping GAPs get organized and her evenings cooking, and dreaming of the day she can run her own restaurant.

Owen Taylor believed he’d lost everything when he witnessed the violent death of his life-long friend and fellow Marine in Iraq. Determined to single-handedly extract revenge, he signed on for two more tours, only to lose his leg in night raid. As he struggles with his urge to lash out at the hand fate has dealt him, he takes an I.T. job with GAPs in Virginia.

After admiring the extremely hot, but mostly silent new employee for several weeks, Lainey discovers a connection with Owen that shocks and pleases them both. By the time he can admit his feelings for her, he and his fellow GAPs agents are forced to take action when the dangerous secret she’s been running from catches up with her.

I love the Love Brothers series and this is a wonderful addition, especially the way it merges into GAPS another favorite of mine!

The Love family is close, supportive and pretty much raised Owen. After his best-friend dies in an IED explosion in Iraq. Owen signs up for an additional two years on top of the two he still has left. During this time he becomes a computer hacker and locates lots of unauthorized things to blow up over there. Unfortunately in that last year, a mission costs him his leg and he returns home. He finally can’t take it anymore and gets a job with Guardian Angel Protection Services.

Lainey works for GAPS she is helping them get organized both computer wise and office space. She avoids personal interaction with guys, but has to work closely with Owen their computer expert. Owen mostly ignores her, until they get hacked and she spots the tracker in the code. This is a favorite scene.

Lainey gasped and stumbled back. A bloody decapitated head rolled away from a body, over and over like one of those computer-generated gif things on Facebook. But this one was so gory she had to avert her eyes. Owen got to his feet slowly, never taking his gaze off the horrible image. His hands were balled into fists on the table alongside his main keyboard. “Zane,” he barked out, startling her. “They’re back.”

Zane came barreling out of the small gym and almost ran over her in his haste to get to Owen. He stood, breathing heavy, sweat gleaming on his handsome face. His eyes narrowed. “Not a glitch, then,” he said crossing his arms.

“No,” Owen said. ” Send me. Please.” He put his hand on Zane’s arm and then removed it quickly as if realizing he’d violated his own rule about personal space.

“You’re too valuable here, Owen,” Zane said, as the grisly image ran in a continuous loop on the three screens.

“But I know this asshole,” Owen said, his jaw clenched.” And now I can track him. He’s smart, but he’s not as smart as he thinks.”

“He left a trail,” Lainey said, surprising herself. Both men turned to stare at her. “It’s in the code. It’s geo-trackable.”

She glanced at Owen, whose gaze softened ever so slightly. Zane raised an eyebrow at her.

“What? I took coding classes, and I was that girl who always fixed the VCR for my parents. I’m not just a pretty face.” She batted her lashes at them, but her pulse was racing.

“Yeah, I see that,” Zane said with a chuckle. ” I hear you make a mean lasagna, too.”

“Come back to my screen,” she insisted. “I’ll show you.”

After they take down the annoying Russian hacker, they have a little celebration that ends with Lainey unable to drive home. Of course Owen ever the gentleman takes care of her.

Now Owen can’t get enough of her but his past rears it’s ugly head in a nightmare. Worse it was in the form of Hannah, the ex-girlfriend that really screwed with him at his going away party. So he pushes Lainey away, in spite of the fact she’s all he really wants.

Everything is made worse as Lainey gives notice, Owen is called away for a Love family emergency and Jon and Zane find out Lainey’s secret.

Hold your breath drama unfurls and sizzling romance ensues. I laughed, cried and thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Lainey frowned and refastened her hair back in a messy ponytail, not willing to recall that bit of the day. She’d met five men, a couple of them in the workout room, and two sitting in Jon’s office poring over files. But one, in particular, had stuck in her head. He’d been in a spare, small office—more like a closet but with less character—in front of a wall covered with different computer monitors set up on a wobbly, cheap-looking table. Like the kind you’d rent for a party and cover with a nice tablecloth.

He’d barely grunted out an acknowledgment of her presence and hadn’t turned to look at her at all—which was too bad because he was quite the specimen. He was wearing a T-shirt and shorts, his dark tanned and tatted biceps covered in a sheen of sweat. She remained in the doorway while Jon and Zane consulted with him about some case or another, taking the opportunity to study his leg—or what passed for it now.

He had one of those blade-style prosthetics from right below his left knee. It was pretty amazing, and she wished it were polite to ask if she could see it closer. By the time she snapped back to herself, she realized the room had gone silent. She blinked and backed away from the man, still sitting at the rickety table, now staring holes into her with the biggest, most expressive pair of blue eyes she’d ever seen.

“Take a picture, it’ll last longer,” he’d said.

“This is Owen,” Jon had said then. “You’ll be replacing him as the official FNG.”

She smiled at Owen, figuring he’d do what most men did and freeze like a deer in the headlights for a few seconds. Instead, he frowned at her and turned back to his screens.

“Owen is our IT expert,” Zane had said, filling the awkward silence that followed. “You know computer geeks. No accounting for them, sociability-wise.” He turned to Lainey and guided her down the hall toward a small conference room. Her ears were hot and her mind buzzing with the memory of him—the elaborate, interwoven vines inked on what she could see of his muscular arms were seared in her mind.

It had been a damn long time since Lainey had been physically attracted to a man. The last time it happened, it was an unmitigated disaster, leading her to her current state of broke and always looking over her shoulder. She set her jaw and forced Owen’s tattoos, metal leg, and amazing eyes right out of her brain.
