Winter Blog Blurb

When über-nerd Jack asks Sara to make him more attractive to women, she can’t say no–even though it’s an impossible task. He’s shaggy and doughy and hopelessly inappropriate. He has no style or emotional intelligence but he’s a good person. And a great friend. What Sara never expects? Beneath all that fur and geekiness is a steamy hunk just waiting to emerge.

Jack takes Sara’s regimen very seriously, working out and losing weight until he feels like a new man. He even complies with her command to shave his beard–because Jack didn’t ask Sara to make him over so he would be attractive to other women. He only wants to be attractive to her. They go on a series of fake dates, each hotter and more sinful than the last. It’s not long before Sara discovers Jack’s secret desire to be dominated and what began as an arrangement becomes something amazing–something that could be real.

Winter Blog Review

After reading the first two books in this series I couldn’t imagine how they could be topped. Well they were in a most delightful way.

Jack is truly clueless when it comes to women and when he approaches Sara to help him, well, I was both horrified and amused.

Sara really didn’t think she could help Jack, but she undertook the task with some reservations and a promise of her birthday week in Paris. Her dream trip would become a reality whether she succeeded or not.

What Sara didn’t expect and neither did anyone else was how truly hot Jack was underneath the scraggly hair and raggedy beard. Plus she found something else about him that was profoundly attractive to her domineering side.

Jack may have been reluctant but he had loved her forever and would do anything she asked and more if could make her his.

Of course there was a slight problem with a persistent ex, that was a joy to watch unfold.

This is an OMG hot as hell read, with lots of laughs and a tears as well.

Don’t forget to read the excerpt below it’s a favorite scene.

Winter Blog excerpt

“So… Have you thought about it?” Jack could have kicked himself. He hadn’t intended to burst into her office and blurt it out like that. He’d meant to be suave and slick.

He should have known better.

He’d never been suave and slick.

No. He’d hovered in the vicinity of Sara’s office—after sending Kenny on a meaningless errand—and barged through the door and pounced upon her as soon as Kat left.

“Sit, Jack.”

He plopped into the chair and, because he didn’t know what to do with his hands, laced his fingers.

Sara studied him, dissecting him in that way she had, with her head tipped to the side, wrinkling her button nose. She was so cute when she wrinkled her nose. He forced himself not to wriggle. His cock didn’t listen. Something about her eyes, her lips, her scent, always stirred him.

He shouldn’t have this kind of reaction to her. In the office. Everywhere. But he couldn’t help it. He just did. Always.

When she looked at him like that, when she spoke to him in that clear, commanding voice, it was even worse.

Or better, depending on one’s perspective.

She cleared her throat. “Okay. I’ve thought about it.”

His pulse jerked. “And…?”

She dropped her attention to her blotter and meticulously rearranged several deformed paper clips. His heart pounded a painful tattoo as he waited for her response. “And…” She met his eyes—God, she was gorgeous. “If I do this, we need to have an understanding.”

Relief, or something like it, trickled through him. An understanding was awfully close to an agreement. A promise. “Okay.”

Sara sucked in a breath. “First of all, we need to agree this is an impossible task.”

“Not impossible,” he grumbled. Surely not impossible.

“Okay. Improbable then. My chances of success are…dismal.”

Dismal? Jack’s belly dropped. He fiddled with the wiry hairs on the back of his neck. He didn’t like the way this was going. It was depressing that she thought so poorly of him. “Am I that hideous?”

Her eyes widened. A flush rose on her cheeks. “Oh my God, Jack. No. I didn’t mean it that way.”

“It sounded that way.”

“Jack…” She rubbed her hands over her face. “Okay. How about this? We have a long way to go. Can we agree on that?”

“Sure.” He knew he was pouting. But he had a damn good excuse. She’d pretty much come out and said making him attractive to women—to her in particular—was a hopeless cause.

“My worry is this. I can teach you all the right things to say and coach you on how to act around women, prescribe a diet and exercise plan and even give you a makeover. But if you don’t listen to me—if you don’t follow the plan—I fail.”

“I’ll listen. I’ll follow the plan.” Hell. He’d follow her anywhere she wanted to lead. If she only knew…

Something fierce stirred in her eyes. “It’s not going to be easy, Jack. I’m gonna work you.” Why he shivered at the tone in her voice, he had no clue. Or maybe he did. “I want you to agree to honor our contract—even if you drop the ball.”

“Of course.” He always kept his promises.

“You swear?”

He put a hand over his heart. “I swear.”

She sat back. The fire in her eyes flickered and sputtered out. “Okay. So next week I’m going back East to spend some time with my mother—”

“How long will you be gone?” Damn. He hated it when she was gone.

Pain flashed across her features; her voice dropped. “She’s…not doing well.”

His heart squeezed and he wanted to say something comforting but couldn’t find any words. Sara’s mother had been in and out of the hospital for a year. They were very close. Each time her mother had a relapse, Sara suffered.

Jack had never had a mother so he couldn’t relate but he imagined having one and losing her would be even harder than never having one at all.

“In the meantime, I’ll put together a plan for you.”

“A…plan?” His mind spun. How on earth was this going to work if she wasn’t even here?

“Yes. And you have to follow it.”

“I will.”

She put her hands flat on the desk and skewered him with a glower. “Religiously, Jack.”

“Okay.” He tried to not wriggle in his seat. He loved it when she got all…adamant. “So you’ll do it?”

“Yes,” she sighed. “I’ll do it.”

Relief cascaded through him. Relief and hope. It was a tiny sprig of hope, but hope was hope. “So when do we begin?”

She gazed at him. Some strange emotion he couldn’t interpret flashed over her features. “Now.”

Oh. God. Excitement and satisfaction and panic surged through him. “Now?”

“Yes. I need to do an assessment. You know. To figure out exactly where we are.”

He swallowed. “An assessment?”

“Of your game.”

“Okay.” He liked games. He scooted to the edge of his seat.

“Let’s pretend I’m a woman—”

“You are a woman.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Be serious, Jack.”

“I am being serious.” He was.

“Let’s pretend I’m a woman you see at a bar. And you’re interested.”

Oh. He was.

“What’s the first thing you do?”

Okay. He could wrap his brain around this. He shifted to the side and pulled out his wallet. Found his trusty cheat sheet and unfolded it and spread it flat on the desk.

“What the hell is that?” She gaped at the rumpled, well-worn paper.

“It’s my flowchart.” Duh.

Sara blinked. “You have a flowchart for picking up women.” Not a question.

“Naturally.” Didn’t everyone?

“Let me see that.” Before he could stop her she snatched the paper away. Scanned it. “Oh God.”

He knew what she was seeing. He’d studied this flowchart a hundred times. Still, when she read it aloud, he winced.

“Picking Up Chicks.” She grimaced. “Seriously, Jack? That’s what you named it?”

“Yes.” What else would he name it?

“‘Step One. Assess the situation’. Okay. That works. ‘Does she seem cranky?’ Cranky? Seriously, Jack? Cranky?”

He shrugged. “It’s a critical variable.” It was. It was exceedingly difficult to pick up a cranky woman. “Statistically speaking—”

But Sara ignored him. “‘If Yes: Charm her from her bad mood. If No: Proceed with caution.’” Sara sighed and glanced up at him. “Proceed with caution? We’re not wild animals, Jack.”

“You kind of are.” This he muttered. She didn’t hear. Or maybe she did. Maybe she was ignoring him again. She did that.

With a derisive snort, she crumpled up his precious template for seduction and tossed it in the trash.

With a strangled “eep” he dove in after it, dug it out, refolded it and tucked it back into his wallet. It had never worked but it was all he had. He needed it.

She glared at him. And then for some reason she softened. “Women are not an empirical science, Jack.” She gestured to his wallet. “We’re not all alike. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to winning someone’s heart.”

Yeah. He got that. “But you need to have a standard operating procedure—”

“No, ya don’t.” She blew out a breath. He loved the way it made her bangs flutter up. “Don’t you see? This kind of thing comes off as cheesy. Planned. Practiced.”

“And that’s…bad?” How could planning and practice be bad?

“Women don’t want to feel like they’re an insect being dissected or analyzed. They don’t want to be one option in a sea of possibilities. They want to be special. They want a guy who responds to them on an instinctual level. A guy who is so interested, he can’t help but be charming. Not a guy who has to be reminded to be seductive—by an SOP.”

He shook his head. This was all so…alien. “I don’t get it.”

She buried her face in her hands. “No. You don’t. That’s the point. Oh Jack, I’m going to need a couple days to think about this.”

His pulse stuttered. “But you already promised…”

“No. I’ll do it. I did promise to do it. I just need to think about how to do it.”

He relaxed. Okay. Okay. Okay. It would be okay. “Thank you, Sara.”

“Yeah.” Her cell phone buzzed and she picked it up to check the screen. Her lips tightened and she set it back down. “No prob.”

Damn. Why did she seem so dispirited? He’d seen the tears on her cheeks when he interrupted her meeting with Kat. He’d hated her tears. Hated even more that he didn’t have any right to wipe them away.

“Sara.” He waited until she met his gaze. “Thank you.”

This meant everything to him. More than she could ever know.

“Sure, Jack. Give me a couple days to think about this.”

“Sure.”

She stared at him for a minute and then said in a very small voice, “You can go now.”

Right. He could go. But he didn’t want to. He didn’t want to go. He wanted to fold her in his arms and hold her and make whatever was making her sad disappear.

He didn’t have that right either.

And he never would.

But for the next few months, he’d have her attention.

And that would be worth a thousand trips to Paris.

Winter Blog Review

Imagine you did something incredibly brave and then were accused of somehow perpetuating that something. Called a person of interest in the case.

That is what happened to Nora, all because at one point in her life the one who did the deed and died was her foster brother.

As a result while she is in the hospital recovering from the gunshot wound inflicted on her, she loses everything. Her job, her apartment, all her belongings and her reputation all of it gone in a blink of an eye.

Ryan is her lawyer’s intern. When he discovers her plight he approaches his roommates with a request for her to stay with them. Seok, Apollo, Cai and Matisse agreed although Seok seemed to have some reservations.

Here is the scene when they all meet. It is the first clue we get of what might come to be.

“This is Apollo Morris, Matisse Boudreau, and Cai Josephs.” Ryan pointed to each person.

The first guy, Apollo, was one of the biggest people Nora ever met. She hoped the chair was strong enough to hold him. When he stood, she bet he would tower over her by at least a foot. His shoulders were twice her width, but his smile was open and friendly. His white teeth stood out in his dark-skinned, handsome face. He had a dimple in one cheek, and dark framed glasses he pushed into place before letting one arm drop onto his lap. His other arm was propped on the table, giving her a view of his chest. His muscles stretched the seams of his t-shirt to the ripping point.

Matisse Boudreau, pale and somehow graceful, sat between Apollo and Cai. He had long everything: a long, aquiline nose, long, dark hair curling around his chin, and long legs clad in dark jeans and motorcycle boots. Taken in parts, he was not handsome, but put together, the pieces fit like a puzzle. He wasn’t classically handsome, but his appearance was arresting.

Her gaze finally came to rest on Cai, and she was blinded by gold: golden hair, golden skin, golden eyes. He was healthy and strong, like he drank milk and got plenty of sun. His hands were clasped in front of him, and she could see the muscles in his arms contract as if he was squeezing his hands together. He watched her curiously, but not in the same way Apollo did. Apollo seemed friendly, while Cai and Matisse were wary.

“Nice to meet you,” Apollo ventured, getting her attention.

“Thank you for letting me stay.” She smiled at him gratefully.

A door snicked shut behind her and she turned, hoping this was the last person she had to meet, because she needed to sit. Her muscles trembled, and she could feel a clammy sweat trickling along her spine.

“This is Seok Jheon, he owns this house.” She met the dark, serious gaze of the final roommate. She searched his face for some sort of emotion, some hint of what he felt at having an interloper in his home, but he gave nothing away.

“Hello,” he said to her, his voice slightly accented, the vowels and consonants rounded.

He was tall, but not quite as tall as Ryan. The bright morning sun highlighted hair dyed cherry- red. His style was… unique. He wore red skinny jeans, and a strategically torn t-shirt revealing bright splashes of color. He reminded her of a sunset, bright but hinting at something darker.

“Hello,” she answered, her voice slightly breathless as the pain got worse. “Thank you so much for letting me stay here.”

He nodded at her, as if saying, yes, I allow you to stay here, and I can disallow it at any time. Her stomach started to roil, body screaming at her if she didn’t rest soon, then it was going to punish her.

“I’m sorry,” she voiced to no one in particular. “I need to sit.”

Voicing the need made it happen, and her knees buckled. She heard a sound like every chair suddenly scraped against the floor, but Ryan reached her first. His arms scooped beneath her legs and he lifted her effortlessly against her chest.

“I’m taking Nora to her room.”

She risked a glance at the room and found each of the guys stood, ready to catch her.
Prosperina, Riley. Finding Honor(Kindle Locations 849-874).After Glows Publishing. Kindle edition.

What none of them really expected was to fall in love with her. Nora touches each of them in a different way. So now where she had no one, she has five men who will protect her.

But can they all be in a relationship together?

A truly great beginning to a series I know I will be following. Full of conflicting feelings, protective men, and a woman who’s strength is inspiring.

Winter Blog Review

I have to confess this is the first book I’ve read by Lynne St. James, and now I am hooked. I didn’t know the characters, but quickly followed who was who and with whom. Foster kids growing up together they formed a band and became successful. They had planned a trip home for Christmas, but they moved up the schedule when the news came their foster mother Sally is in the hospital.

Cynde, Trent’s fiancé and is known for her organizational skills. As such she helps get everyone in gear to give Jack and Sarah the perfect Christmas they deserve. This is a favorite scene the morning after they arrive.

Jack finished the bacon and sat at the table with us. Cyn got out her iPad and pulled up a calendar, she’d wanted to be a kindergarten teacher and she would have been great, but it would have been a waste of her talent as a songwriter.

After pulling up the list she’d already started, she took a sip of coffee and turned toward Jack. I hid my smile behind my mug as I took another drink. She was just so fuckin’ cute and didn’t even realize it. I loved when she pushed her glasses up her nose and tucked her hair behind her ear. She always did it when she was nervous and I doubt she knew it was a dead giveaway.

“Is there anything you need for us to take care of today? I have a list started, to decorate, shop for Christmas and Christmas Eve dinner, and presents, but I don’t know what Sally usually does for Christmas. I want her to be relaxed and not worry about things getting done.”

“You are so sweet. I haven’t told her you were all coming home yet. I wasn’t sure how you wanted to handle it,” Jack answered then looked over at me. “Were you going to come to visit her as a surprise?”

“I don’t know. We talked about keeping our visit a secret until she came home but if she’s stuck in the hospital us showing up would hopefully cheer her up.”

“I vote for going to see her,” Cyn said shyly.

Jack nodded. “I agree. As much as I like the idea of a surprise when she comes home, there’s still the possibility they’ll keep her longer. Last night the doc said they still didn’t know why she wasn’t improving like they’d hoped.”

Tears welled up in his eyes and I felt helpless. We never showed a lot of affection to Jack as we were growing up. Sally hugged us a lot, but mostly we all had too many scars to let our walls down around anyone but each other. It was some kind of unspoken pact between us and our backgrounds were close enough, except for Rage’s, that we ‘got’ each other.

“Okay, sounds like a plan. Joe said he was going to rent a car or something for us so we have wheels while we’re here and won’t have to take yours. Why don’t you go over the to-do list with Cyn while I whip up some eggs?”

I swear Cyn’s jaw dropped as the words sank in. “You’re going to cook?”

Jack laughed, “Of course he is. Sally made sure they all know how to and do laundry, sew on buttons, iron, and clean properly.”

“Wow, I’m impressed. I guess if you ever stop touring we can take turns cooking.”

“Uhh yeah sure, but I may have forgotten how to do it by then,” I said and winked at her. She rolled her eyes at me and shook her head.

Jack laughed too, “It’s great to have you kids home. I’m glad you came, Cynda, it’s where you belong now. Which reminds me, how come Chris isn’t here?”

“He figured it’d be a little tight here with all of us so he and Joe are staying with Sunshine Duncan. I think he just wanted some time with Teresa though.”

“I see. Well I hope on Christmas you’ll all be here.”

Cynda reached for his hand and covered it with hers. “Of course we will.”

I nodded in agreement. I had a plan for Christmas Eve and I was going to need his help. I’d have to get him alone later.
St. James, Lynne. Music Under the Mistletoe: A Raining Chaos Christmas (Kindle Locations 423-451). Lynne St. James. Kindle Edition.

From donations to the food bank to a concert and gifts for the children in the hospital, this is a story of the true meaning of Christmas.

Being with family and giving to others, not only gifts but love as well.

Did I mention the mile high club? Yes folks there is some pretty hot sex as well.

I cried more than once and loved all the surprises within. I can’t wait to read the series from the beginning to get to know everyone better.

Good girls go to Heaven. Bad girls go to Vegas. Especially when they’re alone on Christmas.

When Veronica finds herself on her own this holiday, she does what any sassy young female would do—she calls up her bestie and lures her to Vegas with plane tickets. What could be better than hitting the clubs, having a few too many and…getting your twerk on?

Cutter would rather trade his boots for one of those feather Vegas showgirl outfits than spend Christmas at his big brother’s. But when he does the bump ’n grind on the dance floor with a sexy little filly with the mouth of a trucker, he knows he’s about to get lucky. Except he’s too much of a gentleman—isn’t he?

Veronica will take standing beneath the mistletoe with the blue-eyed, sable-haired cowboy over Aunt Lenora’s fruitcake any day. After all, he’s so darn good at tying knots—with pretty much anything. With only a few short days together, and her friend occupied with two hunky waiters, she has nothing to lose. Except Cutter’s getting a little too intense for just a short fling. Good thing he doesn’t know her real name…

Winter Blog Review

Not wanting to go to her aunt’s place in England for Christmas, Veronica does the next best thing, books a trip for two to Vegas and convinces her best friend Julie to go with her. When Julie hooks up with two guys they meet in a club, she is approached by an honest to God cowboy. One who’s mere scent sends her thoughts to the bedroom and him naked.

Cutter comes to Vegas to be with his brother and his family for Christmas, but staying in their home quickly loses appeal with screaming kids and the couple fighting. So he quietly leaves and gets a room at a hotel. He decides on a club not in his hotel and meets a sassy beauty who quickly perks his interest in more ways than one.

His eyes crinkled at the corners as he stared down at her. The world did a loop de loop around her, and she didn’t think it was due to the remaining effect of the alcohol. She might not pass a sobriety test at the moment, but she was clear enough to know she was wildly attracted to this man.

“You wanna walk?” he drawled, indicating the crowded sidewalk ahead of them.

“Yes.” She needed more time to get her mouth to line up with her thoughts. Both were a little scrambled right now.

“I like your boots. I think I’d like them better under my bed.” She clapped a hand over her lips, her eyes flying wide.

Cutter was laughing again, a deep rumble that threatened to rip more naughty things out of her mouth.

“I’m sorry,” she said.

He brushed his arm against hers as their bodies naturally drew together like magnets. Goosebumps spread over her arm, and she raised the coffee to her lips again. The sooner she was sober, the better.

“Don’t be sorry. Tell me about Roni.”

She did a mental somersault. Who had told him about the name she had secretly used for her inner diva? The one who would sass her mom or have one too many—

It came back in a rush of techno music and flashing lights. She had given that as her name.

For a moment, she wondered if she should set him straight and then thought differently. What happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas, and she had no intention of seeing this man when she left. Why not let him call her Roni?

A light display caught her eye as they passed one courtyard. A tunnel was created from lights, with flashing swans at the end.

“Oooh, look!”

He gave her an amused quirk of his lips. “Wanna go in?”

“Duh!” Oh Lord, she still had too much rum flowing through her veins. She took several deep swallows of coffee.

At her side, Cutter’s shoulders moved with his laughter. “You’re an entertaining woman, Roni.”

She straightened and owned the name. That persona wouldn’t care about appropriate behavior, so why should she? They moved into a tunnel of lights so bright she had to blink. The red, white, and green seemed to go on forever, and by the time they spilled into a bigger light display with animated light-up figures and animals, she had finished her coffee.

Cutter reached for her empty cup and dumped it in the nearest trash bin. “You live in Texas.”

Her body hummed at the memory. Drinking always made her horny, but the man at her side… Whooeee, he could rival the male strippers in this town. The cowboy part of a show— on stage taking off boots, hat, Wranglers.

She decided it was best to stick with the truth about herself. After tonight, she may never see this man again, but if she did, she didn’t want to be called out on lies. She nodded and quickly decided that was the wrong action for her still-woozy head.

“I work for my father’s construction business.”

He grasped her hand and brought her fingers to his lips. “A construction business, hmm? These feel silky soft to me.” As his bristly five o’clock shadow tickled her flesh, a spear of want hit her. Along with a vision of him licking spilled rum off her fingers.

Oh God, she was going to do something bad again, wasn’t she?

She curled her finger around his jaw and went on tiptoe just as he leaned close.

“I’d like to taste you again. Do you feel like spilling your drink all over your body, sweet thing?” The way he drawled thing sounded as thang. Her heart tripped.

She felt herself nodding. “I’m clumsy like that.”

“Good. Let’s make it a date then.”
Petrova, Em. Jingle Boots (Rope ‘n Ride ON Series) (Kindle Locations 423-461). Kindle Edition.

While nothing happened that night they sure made up for it later. A holiday with enough heat to burn down the hotel. However Cutter knew he wanted more than just Vegas. The question was did Roni?

A quick sizzling read, that makes me want more of these characters. Not only Roni and Cutter but Cole, his children and Julie too!

Winter Blog Review

After a month of dating and fun, Elle finds herself engaged to Taylor. He sets the date, buys her dress and sends her off to the resort spa he booked for the wedding.

At the resort with only Taylor’s manager for companionship, she wanders down to the kitchen and meets her personal chef. Taken with him at first site, they enjoy hot drinks on the patio outside the kitchen. This is a favorite scene.

Elle took a seat and sighed with pleasure at the peaceful view of the gardens. “This is wonderful. How do you get any work done with this

all this right outside your door?”She sipped the hot chocolate and moaned a little. “And the chocolate is truly decadent.”

“I’m used to it. I use this as a resting place when I can.” He gave a little shrug. “My life is the kitchen, not the garden. I have plans for more, but for now the kitchen is where I am most myself. What are your plans, your dreams?”

Elle watched the fine grains of chocolate swirl in her cup and tried to make sense of the panic that infused her body at his question. She went into a breathing pattern she’d learned in order to handle anxiety.

Luc’s big hand touched her arm with a gentle caress. “Elle? Are you all right?”

She let out a jerky laugh. “I don’t know. What were we talking about?”

“Dreams,” he said. “Plans for the future. For instance, I look to the future and see myself opening a restaurant. Not here or in Los Angeles, but maybe in wine country up north. Sonoma, perhaps. I’ll have a kitchen garden, and babies. I want babies to love and cuddle and scold. Someday I hope to convince the right woman to give me those babies, and to make my most important dream come true.”

Her heart hitched. She’d always wanted babies. “So, you found the right woman?” That hurt, somehow. It shouldn’t. She didn’t know him, but knowing he found someone to love before he’d even met her hurt.
She dared to glance at him. He was frowning as he looked to the horizon, and a muscle alongside his jaw twitched.

“Ah.” He smiled as if remembering something wonderful. “Perhaps. Relationships can be complicated. Plus, the holidays.” He met her gaze without blinking. “It’s a stressful time.”

So, he was taken. Just as well, since she had Taylor—whom, with a shock Elle realized, she hadn’t spoken with since he left yesterday. She should call him, reassure herself that all was well.
Ashworth, Christine. Christmas Star (Star Tide Book 1) (Kindle Locations 234-253). Boroughs Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

So, about me. The short version of the bio is, I’m still 17 at heart, I used to be a ballet dancer and yes, I still miss dancing the way I did when I was 17. I’m a romantic from way back, and I’m a writer who currently has a Day Job as an Office Manager.

I grew up in San Diego, fell in love with another dancer, and married him. We’ve got two tall sons and live in Ventura County, California. But probably one of the most important things to know about me is, I’m a hugger. I hug. I touch. It’s one of the ways I process people. So if you see me coming, know I’ll reach out and give you a hug.

This Christmas, get ready to be nice… and naughty.

Christmas Secrets
by

Michele deWinton

Winter Blog BlurbSm

All Gabby Phillips wants is a Christmas without drama. Fat chance. Not when the new owner of her department store is tall, dark and dangerous, Nicolas Morganti, the man she ran out on. The same man her father stole half a million dollars from and the man her body still craves in the deepest hours of the night. Now she has to keep her cool, and her biggest secret – because if he finds out he has a son, he might just take the last scrap of Christmas spirit she’s got left.

Nicolas Morganti always gets what he wants. This Christmas that includes his competitor’s huge department store chain. But when he’s told money is missing and that Gabrielle Phillips works there, it doesn’t take him long to point the finger. Nobody’s ever run out on him before, and the way Gabby left was colder than a snow storm. Now it’s time to settle the score. Revenge can be gift wrapped, right?

Winter Blog ReviewSm

When Nick Morganti acquires the Department store chain she works for Gabrielle Phillips is scared. Scared she’ll lose her job and scared she’ll lose her son. Still paying off her father’s debt and faced with increased payments she finds herself on the verge of homelessness without a babysitter.

Nick Morganti has vengeance on his mind. Gabrielle’s father stole from him and he was sure she was the mastermind behind it all when she disappeared from his life five years ago. Now she’s his employee and he discovers he still has feelings for her. Feelings that aren’t part of revenge.

This is a favorite scene after the department head meeting. A look a how confused Nick and Gabby are going to get.

“I know about Fraser. His wife obviously knows about you too and has made him beg off Friday drinks because of it. Poor bastard. What were you trying to get out of him? He doesn’t strike me as someone of influence.”

Her forehead, usually smooth and untroubled, creased like old parchment paper. “You’ve spoken to him?”

“Of course. You didn’t think I’d get to where I am without being able to sense when sexual tension is clouding an employee’s judgment.”

She stared at him. “When did you speak to him?”

“Just now. In the boardroom.”

Her face collapsed in on itself and she laughed. Laughed!

It was Nicolas’s turn to stare. And as he did she pulled at her bottom lip, her eyes glinting at him, inviting him? Promising….? Not letting himself think too hard, he covered her mouth with his. The shock registered in her eyes but as if he’d flicked a switch, suddenly Gabrielle was kissing him back, softening, her body pressed to his chest.

Damn she felt good. Better than good. Despite the huge differences in their height they’d always fit well together, her tiny frame cradled in his broad one. Pushing his hands into her hair, Nicolas wanted to pull her head back, to lay his teeth on her neck, to open her shirt and take what was rightfully his.

Stop it. Nicolas pulled his mouth away but didn’t release her. He didn’t usually do self-flagellation, certainly not over something as small as a kiss, but this hadn’t been part of the plan. Yet as Gabrielle stood looking up at him, he could hardly stop himself wanting to take her right there and then on her desk. Not now. Not ever again. Drawing on every ounce of control he owned, Nicolas calmed his mind and focused on what he was here to do, not on the formidable desire and forbidden tenderness Gabrielle still elicited from him. But you stopped. You’re in control.

“Was that to prove you’re more man than Fraser Kilpatrick? No one doubts you, don’t worry. You’ve got the girls here in a flutter. Although they obviously don’t know what you’re really like. I could make a complaint. That was pretty close to sexual harassment.”

He growled.

A smile returned to her lips. “Don’t worry, I know it’s not worth it. And anyway it’s almost sweet. You think I had an affair with Fraser Kilpatrick? I would never. That’s too much.”

Nicolas was surprised that he felt relieved. Then he realized she hadn’t denied being involved with someone else called Fraser. “Who else would I be talking about?”

Turning her face away from him he watched her shoulders still. When she turned back, her confusion, mirth, every expression he’d just witnessed was gone. “So I have a boyfriend called Fraser. So what? I’m not a cheat or a home wrecker.”

Nothing about being a fraudster. Well they both knew the truth of that; no point going into it again now. She pulled at her bottom lip and Nicolas couldn’t help his gaze going back to it. How did she do it? Get under his skin like that.
Falcone, Carmen; de Winton, Michele. Red Hot Christmas (Kindle Locations 446-471). . Kindle Edition.

From here it just gets better and better. Someone is pilfering money and pointing it to Gabby’s department. Now she has to prove she’s innocent all over again and the realization that she still loves the man can only hurt more.

A page turning delight as Nick finds out more about Gabby and her life since him. But there is one more secret. One that will make or break this relationship.

Christmas Scandal
by

Carmen Falcone

Winter Blog BlurbSm

After doing time for a crime she didn’t commit, paramedic nurse Sydney Bell avoids trouble at all costs. Yet, trouble comes knocking on her door when a dying patient begs her to deliver a mysterious message to hunky Argentine investor Alejandro Soto.

Alejandro needs to publish the one book that will help restore his image and aid his uncle’s political campaign. It’s full steam ahead until a feisty redheaded woman storms into his office and offers a clue to his biographer’s death. He’s skeptical about Sydney, and laughs it off but after she’s attacked, Alejandro realizes he has no choice but to protect her, whether she likes it or not. He can’t have another death on his conscience.

A crazy attraction threatens to make Sydney surrender to her Argentine savior, but will she be ready for the Christmas scandals that will rock them along the way?

Winter Blog ReviewSm

When auto-biographer Frank Lewis is shot he whispers a cryptic message to the paramedic caring for him on route to the hospital. Sydney Bell’s life changes with those few words.

Alejandro Soto has no idea how much his privileged life is about to change when a feisty redhead barges past his assistant into his office. Having just learned of his auto-biographer’s death he wasn’t sure how much weight the woman’s words carried. That is until she gets an email from her job informing her of her partner’s death.

He knows he has to keep her safe at least until they find who killed Frank and possibly her partner. This is a favorite scene when Alejandro follows her concerned for her well-being.

“Sydney. You just left my office. Alejandro Soto,” said the voice on the other end, and her skin prickled as if it’d been stroked with a feather. After the way he pronounced her name, the man didn’t need to identify himself. That wasn’t an accent one heard every day, was it?His South American drawl was cultured, engaging, deep.

“I told you everything I know,” she said, then cleared her throat trying to sound more composed. “How did you find out where I live?” she asked, and a chill skated down her spine. This was not a good thing. The last thing she needed was a stalker— even if he had the sexiest lips she laid her eyes on. Even if in person he was ten times yummier than on her screen— and all the more dangerous. Damn it, Sydney. Hadn’t life taught her a lesson? Men like him would always have leverage over her. They could put her away, behind bars, for things she wasn’t guilty of.

“Remember you had to show your driver’s license and give them your contact information to get through security?”

Oh shit. Yeah. She had almost given them a fake address. Old habits died hard. But they asked to see her picture ID before issuing her a visitor’s badge, and she ended up being honest. “Okay, Sherlock. You got me.” She shuffled from foot to foot. “Why are you here?”

“You stormed out of my office. I was worried about you.” A sigh. “You just lost someone.”

“Thanks, but I’ll be okay. You don’t need to hand me tissues or anything,” she said, having a hard time picturing that ginormous man doing something so delicate. When he had grasped her in his office earlier, his large hands had caused an inside shiver. A man’s touch was not that familiar to her, and especially not that man’s. Imposing. Mysterious. And uncomfortably handsome.

“Sydney, let me come up. I want to make sure you’re okay. Then I’ll go.”

Like she was going to let a complete stranger into her apartment. She heard his long intake of breath from the other end of the line, and assumed he waited for her response. She bent over the kitchen sink, the wariness of the day taking a toll on her. Until this second, she had thought her heart was problem-free. Empty. Just the way it should be. Somehow, somewhere her friend had occupied a part of it— tiny enough to go unnoticed when she was alive, and big enough to increase the void now that she was gone.

Patty. Words got trapped in her throat.

A creak on the run-down laminate flooring made Sydney straighten her shoulders. Melted ice flowed through her veins.

There is someone here.
Falcone, Carmen; de Winton, Michele. Red Hot Christmas (Kindle Locations 2626-2650).Kindle Edition.

After hiring a private detective they two of them head to Argentina to Alejandro’s mother’s home for Christmas.

From this point on everything is fraught with secrets. Everything but the growing attraction between them. They divulge to each other just about everything and once they hit the bedroom, well sparks fly.

A page turner that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I’ve been known to be an all round arty type so it’s no wonder my first romance has a little sparkle of the stage tucked into its pages. Being a writer was not was I was supposed to be when I ‘grew up’ but then neither was being a dancer. Sometimes my performing past jumps into of the dress up box and requires attention. But most of the time I’m content to stay in my PJs. All day. And I also thinks that chocolate can solve pretty much everything.

review-fall-cornucopia

Em Petrova writes some of the hottest scenes and this book is full of them right from Chapter 1.

Pierce is beginning a relationship one that could destroy his career. More importantly it could impact his marriage, he just didn’t know if it would be in a good or bad way.

Ellie knew this day would come years ago when Pierce confessed he was bisexual. With Pierce’s confession of wanting a relationship with Mitch, she is now squirming in anticipation at the thought of being with two men.

It was difficult to find a passage I could share because of all the explicit sizzling sex in this book but this was a favorite scene when Pierce tells Mitch of his wife’s request.

Pearce whirled, jamming a hand through his very short, dark hair as he did. “Dammit, Mitch, you know what I meant!”

“Do I? Seems strange to me. Alone, I’m good enough. But here, you’re afraid to even be around me. Partners. We’ve always been a team, man. Now I think you’re ashamed to call yourself a friend.”

“That’s not true.” Pearce’s voice shook. With anger or emotion? Mitch narrowed his gaze and tried to read him.

“No?”

“You know why things need to be kept quiet. I need this job to support my wife.”

Mitch cringed a bit at the mention of Ellie, whom he’d never want to hurt for all the world. “That’s right. Ellie…”

“Yeah, Ellie— the same woman who asked me last night to bring you into our bed!” He pitched his voice low, the furious tones coming out as a harsh rasp.

A spike of passion struck Mitch, spearing him to the floor. He licked his lips. “She wants that?”

“Hell yes! But we shouldn’t be speaking of it here, and you damn well know it! Now get out, get dressed and fucking meet me outside.
Petrova, Em. Controlled Burn (Firehouse 5 Series Book 2) (Kindle Locations 665-676). Kindle Edition.

While there is a good story here with the firehouse at the center, there is sex or thoughts of having sex on almost every page. There is no gradual to this relationship, it takes off at top speed and stays there. Panty melting and some hold your breath action as well. I would have liked a bit more ‘getting to know you’ especially when Pierces brings Mitch home the first time.
