The Poseidon team are hard-bodied, fiercely competitive navy SEALs. But when a sensitive mission goes disastrously wrong, three of the team’s finest will have to trust their hearts and instincts to uncover the truth…

“No man left behind” is inscribed in the DNA of every SEAL and Lieutenant Diego Torres is no exception. But with a team member killed—and the body missing—Diego’s honor is sorely tested. Now his career and reputation are on the line, and a traitor is hiding among them. Diego wants answers…and only one woman has them.

Single mom Harper Maclean has two priorities—raising her son Nathan and starting a new life. Her mysterious new neighbor may be impossibly charming, but Diego asks too many questions about her past—and about the father of her child. Questions she fears will reveal her burning attraction for Diego, and ultimately put them all in danger’s path.

Winter Blog Review

When a Poseidon mission goes FUBAR and they lose a team member and can’t recover the body. The team is suddenly under suspicion and to keep his team lead out of the investigation focus Captain Nick Savino sets him on a mission to help clear not only the team but himself.

As the team leader Diego is the one who had the most to lose, everything he had worked so hard for could be taken away. His assignment is to get information on the family of the deceased team member. It is proving difficult since the woman in question works from home and is extremely protective of her son.

His opportunity came in the form of her son, Nathan, with a broken bicycle chain he didn’t want his Mom to know about. Diego was able to fix it and get some chatter about his Mom and the frequent deliveries she gets. Part of that scene is in the excerpt below and is one of my favorite scenes.

Harper has raised Nathan alone, his father wanted nothing to do with her pregnancy and had in fact ordered her to get an abortion. She took the money for it but took off and had her son, working hard to provide for him.

When Diego had moved in next door it hadn’t raised any questions since the owner frequently rented it out to business people in need of a residence for a few months or weeks. On the other hand, it didn’t take much for Harper to notice how attractive her new neighbor was or recognize her own libido awakening in his presence.

The last thing Diego expected was to fall for the woman he was investigating for clues. Clearing his name and his team’s reputation was his first priority anything personal had to take second place.

Lots of frustration at dead ends and more questions without answers as these two fall hard for each other. Suspense, drama and plenty of sizzling scenes, combined with the love for a little boy who deserves only the best, make this a must read.

Winter Blog excerpt

“You’re the best, mister.” The kid had to get his smile from his mother, Diego decided. Because not once could Diego remember Ramsey’s smile making him want to offer one in return.

“Diego,” he said after a second, figuring talking was better than standing here on the sidewalk, grinning like an idiot. “You can call me Diego.”

“Cool. I’m Nathan. I’m seven. I’m gonna be a stunt¬man when I grow up. Or a veterinarian. I’d rather be a Jedi warrior, but Mom says we’ll see about that one. She says that about a lot of stuff. We’ll see. What are you?”

Huh? Was that a question? The kid’s expression said it was, so Diego did a mental replay.

“I’m in security,” he said, using the cover Savino had decided on.

“Bet you’re good at it.” Grabbing the bike by the han¬dles, the kid gave it a good shake, then grinned when the chain stayed in place. “You’re good at fixing things, too. Maybe you could teach me to fix some things?”

Diego didn’t have much experience with kids—hell, he didn’t have any experience. Despite that, he had to figure this one was something special.

Before he could answer him, a delivery truck rumbled its way to a stop in front of the kid’s house. Some thing he’d noticed was a regular occurrence. At least once, sometimes twice a day.

“You sure get a lot of deliveries,” he observed, watching a guy in shorts carry a stack of boxes toward the door.

“Yeah. Mom gets tons of stuff. She decorates for people’s houses. She orders pillows and bowls and things like that. Sometimes she gets material and things to help her decide colors.”

Convenient. Or it would be if Ramsey were running drugs or stolen goods—that’d be a solid cover. But unless he’d shipped himself home in an ash can, it probably wasn’t pertinent. Lansky would claim otherwise, though, so Diego made a note to mention it in his next report.

He caught a flash of something out of the corner of his eye. All it took was a casual glance toward the house to send him rocking back on his heels.

Damn.

Not even signing for a slew of packages and fending off the flirtations of the delivery guy were enough to keep Harper Maclean from sending her son a protective frown.

So far his glimpses of her had been at a longer distance than the twenty feet currently separating them. Her photos didn’t do her justice. He’d known she was a looker, but no way he’d have thought fully dressed in person could trump that bikini shot, even if that bikini shot had been kind of blurry.

He’d have been wrong.

Winter Blog Review

Xan Davis feels the call of the Black Hills even stronger after he almost kills an innocent human during a PTSD black-out. Arriving at Gee’s even before he can eat or drink anything he is fighting off the invisible. He has one chance to get this right and she is more than he bargained for.

Xan tugged on the cuff securing his left wrist and then turned and tugged on the right. His bladder seemed damn near ready to burst. He couldn’t hold it much longer. “Woman!”

“The name is Liv.” Back in her seat, watching him as he slept? This time in flannel pajamas and fuzzy duck slippers. And she still looked like dynamite with a short fuse. Awoooo, get you some of that.

She sat up and yawned, stretching her arms over her head and exposing a sliver of pale skin on her belly, lickable bare flesh, and all alone. His mouth watered. Nothing better to do at oh dark ugly, Doc?

He watched her, soaking in her every detail, from the curve of her cheek to the sky blue of her eyes. Xan yanked hard on both cuffs at once. “I need to take a piss.”

She nodded, rose, and ducked out of the room, disappearing down the hall. As her footsteps faded, he yanked harder. “Did you hear me?” Moments later, while he contemplated whether he should pee the bed or not, she reappeared, holding an orange jug.

He eyed it. “Oh, hell no. I’m perfectly capable of taking a leak on my own.”

“Give me your word you won’t hurt yourself or anyone else and you can.”

“Lady, I’m not letting you hold my dick while I take a leak in a jug.” Xan growled low in his throat and stared her down, daring her to take a step toward him and try it.

“I can get Ryker to help you.”

“Oh, fuck no.” He yanked even harder on the restraints. “He’s not touching my dick. He’s likely to rip it off.”

“Stop behaving like an animal.”

“I am an animal.”

“No, you’re a shifter, and I find it interesting you haven’t changed to get out of those cuffs. Maybe, like Gee said, you can’t.”

“What? Who the fuck told the bear I can’t shift.” He arched, gaining nothing but growing a shade angrier. “Set me free. This isn’t right, and you know it.”

“Give me your word.”

He opened his mouth and snapped it shut. If he didn’t have to piss so bad, he wouldn’t even think about it. But he did, and he sure as hell wouldn’t let her take Mr. Happy out so he could finish the mission. His damned cock was already way too excited at the prospect. “Fine. Let me go.”

“What did you say? Are you agreeing to my terms? Will you hurt yourself or anyone else?”

“I just told you.”

“No, you only asked me to let you go. You didn’t make any promises. Say it. I, Xan Davis, will not hurt myself or anyone else.” She jiggled the piss jug before him. “Say it, or I’m reaching down the front of your pants.”

“I may not hurt myself or anyone else, but this promise doesn’t mean I don’t have other ways to make you pay for holding me hostage.” On her back. Against the wall. From behind. Doc would pay.

“On your Alpha’s orders. I don’t make a habit of keeping prisoners in my home.”

He growled. And she better not hold any other wolves in her home. Her Alpha’s orders or not.

“He’s not my Alpha,” Xan snarled.

“Are the Black Hills not your home and the Taos your pack?”

“Yes.”

“Then he’s your Alpha. Give me your word.”

“I, Xan Davis, will not hurt myself or anyone else. Now unlock these damn cuffs and point me to the bathroom.”

“Under one condition.”

“More? You’re shitting me?” He groaned.

“No, I’m not. Promise to stay with me until you’re better…in this house.”

He slowly scanned the room and frowned. “With all this pink?”

“What’s wrong with the pink?”

“It’s disturbing.”

“What’s disturbing is how you’re fighting the help we’re offering. A smart man would take it.”

“Whatever. I’ll do it. Even if your home-decorating choices could be considered acts against the Geneva Convention.”

Winter Blog Review

Madam Eve is a specialist, one who manages to find the perfect match for the clients she excepts. This time however runs into a bit of a hitch. The boss her client references wants the date and the fantasy.

While I have often seen cold-feet happen in these tales, this is the first time I’ve seen it cancelled. Although that didn’t quite work out the way Lou thought it would.

A favorite scene occurs after they are almost caught by a colleague.

The heat of his body warmed her back, and he lifted her hair away from the nape of her neck to press a kiss there. “Relax, darling. You did great. I’m so proud of you.”

She didn’t know if he referred to Carl’s interruption or her earlier wanton submission. Wanting to sink into him, to lose herself in the arousal that came roaring back to life from the simple brush of his lips at her nape, she forced herself to stand stiff in his embrace. They’d barely escaped once; she couldn’t afford to allow him to take her over like that again.

“We can’t, Daniel.” Her breathy voice did little to convince either of them she meant the words.

“Don’t turn away from me now, Lou.” He rubbed small circles up the column of her neck, easing the knots of tension gathered there. Slipping higher, he massaged her scalp until she couldn’t hold in a soft sigh of pleasure. Damn, he had good hands. She let her lashes flutter closed, melting a fraction into his touch. Wrapping her hair tight around his fist, he tugged her head back in a sharp motion then fixed his mouth on the exposed side of her throat. The combination of the tingling pain in her scalp and the insistent suck of his lips sent her soaring. She couldn’t walk away from him now. Not tonight. Maybe not ever.

“Not here.” Yes, here, now! It took all her willpower not to drag her skirt back up and just bend over for him.

Daniel nipped her pulse point once more before easing his grip on her hair. “The hotel is still booked. I kept the reservation when you changed your mind about our date.”

What was he talking about? What date? He’d already mentioned something about her canceling their plans.

He made some space between them, giving her a chance to turn around and face him. Without his hands on her, she could think again, and a modicum of rationality returned. Coincidence she could buy, serendipity even, but she couldn’t believe they had been a random match. So, how?

“I still don’t understand how this happened. Madame Eve promised me complete discretion and anonymity.”

Tucking his hands in his pockets, Daniel paced a few feet from her and turned. “Ah. About that.” Gone was the confident, demanding lover. He looked nervous, abashed even. “A copy of your email found its way into the back of one of your reports. I know I shouldn’t have invaded your privacy like that, Lou, but goddamn it, I cannot say I’m sorry I read it. I contacted 1Night Stand and begged Madame Eve to set us up on a date.”

“Begged?” Lou should have been mad, but the idea of him reading her fantasies about him, along with being desperate to play them out with her, filled her with a sense of power.
Merryn Dexter. The Boss of Me (Kindle Locations 362-373). Decadent Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.

One extremely hot night begins and almost stops again at the hotel. But ever resilient, Daniel keeps everything going just at a different pace.

This one has a lot of twists to it. Twists that make me wonder if Madame Eve has made her first mistake ever.

During the golden age of Austin, Texas, women came from miles around to mix fantasy with flesh at Iron Rods strip club. But time moved on, leaving the club in disrepair and the dancers in sorry shape. Bennett Truitt, estranged son of the club’s aging and half-crazy owner, wants to replace the local landmark with shiny new condos against his father’s wishes. His Trojan horse is feisty Tatum Reynolds, his new hire as manager of the failing establishment. He’s sure she’s the train wreck he needs to run the business into its grave, but never underestimate the stubborn determination of a down-on-her-luck Texas woman.

After another rejection letter, Tatum stares fate in the eye and realizes she’ll never be a professional dancer on or off Broadway. Out of options, she accepts Bennett’s job offer to manage the strip club and is determined to return the run-down Iron Rods to its glory days, no matter what or who stands in her way – even if it means going toe-to-toe with the boss’ son.

Winter Blog Review

Bennett has moved back to Texas to take the position of CFO of his father’s vast holding. Of those holdings one has haunted him throughout his life, Iron Rods. The strip club for women was the starting point of his father’s empire, but Bennett wants it closed and torn down. Now he’s stuck managing it until he can replace the one who absconded with funds skimmed from the business.

Tatum has just received the letter that ends her dreams of being a professional dancer. To help her chase off the blues her best-friend Heather drags her out to Iron Rods. In the process of complaining about watered down drinks she end up with a job interview to be the manager. This is a favorite scene.

“Are you the manager here?” she asked, making her way down to the end of the bar.

He punched the end of the pen he held and tossed it onto an open file. “I guess you can say I am. Is there a problem?”

His tone sounded a little too bored for her liking. He might not be hard to look at, but he had pompous ass written all over him.

“As a matter of fact there is. Have you taken a good look at this place lately? It’s a dump. The lighting sucks, the dancers aren’t good-looking and couldn’t dance to save their souls, and the bartender is serving lousy drinks.”

He tilted his head. “You don’t say.”

His prissy, holier-than-thou attitude provided just the spark she needed to stay ignited. “Yes, I do say. You should be ashamed of yourself and this place. It’s the worst club in Austin.”

“And yet you’re here.”

“I—” Tatum started, but faltered in the wake of his unexpected retort. She blinked several times, too flustered to speak. Weren’t managers supposed to be nice to their customers? Even rich, snobby managers?

The stranger stood and Tatum’s gaze continued up until her head tilted back. Powerfully built, he not only stood several inches taller than her, he dominated the space around her. Though he might not be as humongous as the bartender, he radiated a fierce but intelligent intensity that commanded her attention. Here was a man used to getting what he wanted.
“You think someone else can do better?” he asked.

Her mouth watered as she watched the play of muscles behind his snug shirtsleeves and listened to the deep voice that poured over her like warm molasses. Good Lord, the man was virile.

Not permitting herself to be influenced by intimidation or lust, she raised her chin and said the first thing that came to her mind. “I think a drunk monkey could do better.”

“You looking for a job?”
Brenna Zinn. Iron Rods – (Kindle Locations 446-460). Brenna Zinn. Kindle Edition.

Bennett thinks he has the perfect person to help him close Iron Rods. Boy was he wrong! Another problem, he can’t stop thinking about her.

The explosive coming together of these two will set you on fire. Tatum is far more than she appears to be and the frustration she causes Bennett is fun to read. Of course having his father on her side doesn’t hurt either.

A few surprises and lots of kindle melting scenes.

In Loving Memory Of Mike Briggs

On January 23, 2017 the world lost a kind and loving man. My heartfelt condolences go out to Patricia Briggs on the loss of her husband and soulmate.

I was fortunate to have spent time with Mike and Patty and to work with Mike as a moderator on Patty’s website and as an Admin on Patty’s Facebook page.

I first met them at a gathering of their Hurog fans, the 2010 HOWL. This was the first time I had ventured out on my own after my husband had passed. Mike was an inspiration to me and I am a better person for having known him.

This is how I will remember him, singing with Patty at the HOWL, teaching us new songs and laughing at our antics.

filking

One of the songs we learned that night was Simple Gifts, in Cry Wolf Bran sang it at the memorial service for Dr. Wallace. It is a fitting song for this memory too.

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come ’round right.

‘Tis a gift to be simple, ’tis a gift to be fair,
‘Tis a gift to wake and breathe the morning air.
And each day we walk on the path that we choose,
‘Tis a gift we pray we never shall lose.

Listen to it performed by Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss

Rest in Peace Mike, you are forever in our hearts.

Winter Blog Review

When the tour company she works for is acquired by a new firm the last person Roxie expected to see was Stefano. They have a history, one that is not exactly a pleasant memory for her. Now he would be her boss.

Stefano knows he has to make things right with Roxie. He’d been young and stupid. Now successful and needing her support he takes her to dinner so they can hopefully make amends and move forward.

This is a favorite part of that dinner.

Why didn’t she have better memories from their time together? Another voice rang in his ears. A much raspier one— Never leave a woman unsatisfied. Ironically, John had taught him that rule after Stefano confided in him and told him about sleeping with a girl he had never called again— or checked on. He’d promised John he would call her, or write, after leaving Saddle Creek. But he’d let business and putting the past behind him override that promise. Sadness welled up his throat. He swallowed. “All I’m asking for is a shot. Give me a chance to show you what changes we plan before shutting the idea down.”

“Okay. But I have one condition.”

The Roxie he remembered never agreed to anything without negotiating first. “Go ahead.”

She stared at him straight in the eye, her irises darkening to a sultry green. “I want to show you how important a tour guide is to the company, too. So you’ll come with me while I take a group on tour. If I keep my mind open, why can’t you? Please? It’s only fair.”

He cleared his throat, forcing down the lump. No doubt if anyone else asked, he would have denied the offer— dismissed them, even. After all, he was the boss. However, Luther had explained a takeover like this would run smoother if they got the top employee in their corner— particularly because she would be the one to steer the downsized team in the right direction. Besides… Didn’t he owe her that for all he put her through?

He stretched out his hand. “Deal.”

She glanced at his hand for a beat, and then took it in hers. The brief touch shot a thrill up his arm. Her skin felt warm, soft, lovely. “Deal.”

She withdrew her hand from his, and he could swear her discomfort was almost palpable. Frustration poured over him. Had he been that bad a guy… that bad a lover that she just couldn’t stand him? Maybe his stupid ass had been so fascinated by her as a teen that being with her had meant more than it did to her. Shit. Why did her opinion of him matter?
Falcone, Carmen. Her Heartbreaker Boss (Kindle Locations 248-264). Kindle Edition.

Change is never easy and raising a child alone isn’t either. Roxie has to come to terms with her feelings for Stefano, he would leave again, there was no question about it. She couldn’t open herself up to that hurt again.

Stefano was finding it hard to ignore his feelings, he still wants Roxie. He had to make this conversion a success and Roxie was a big part of it.

A bumpy road, for all involved, with lots of sizzling emotions. Second chances are worth it, aren’t they?

Winter Blog Review

Moon’s ex-husband cheated on her repeatedly. Now on her own working as a hand at Nirvana, she has proven herself more than capable to keep up with her male counterparts. The problem is they think of her as one of the guys. She is more than a little embarrassed when the doctor witnesses Jace’s rejection of her. A mistake on her part to begin with.

Cameron likes his busy life, Nirvana and the small local hospital have proven to be the change he needed. Like everyone else he sometimes needs to wind down a bit. Little did he know he would run into Moon. Moon is different than other women he’s known and he is more than a little attracted to her. This is a favorite scene the night after the encounter in the barn.

He’d realized earlier that he’d made the same stupid mistake that Jace did. He’d turned down her request to spend some time with him. Hell, what red-blooded, single man did such a thing?

Yeah, Cam was single. He looked down at his bare finger.

He swept his gaze back to Moon who was dropping coins into the slot. A soft tune floated from the speakers and before he could change his mind, he took off toward her and reached her just as she spun around, coming face to face with him. A slow smile drew up the corners of her beautiful lips. He didn’t say a word as he took her hand, smiling at her surprised expression, then he led her to the dance floor.

“Get a couple more beers in?” she asked.

“Nope.” He drew her against him, their bodies pressing against each other, heat nestling below his waist. “I came to my senses,” he whispered next to her ear. She smelled so good, felt even better. Everything around them faded as they moved against each other to the rhythmic tune of a familiar country song. “I’m a slow learner sometimes.”

She lifted her arms around his neck and drew her face back just enough so that she was looking up at him through the veil of her long lashes. “I don’t hold grudges.”

“Does that mean I’m forgiven for my lack of protocol in the barn?”

“What incident in the barn?” She laid her head on his shoulder and his breath hitched. Her soft curves swayed against his tight muscles, her legs brushing against his thighs, causing a rush of emotions behind his zipper.

Pressing his palm to the small of her back, he breathed in her scent— a lethal concoction of woman and seduction. He slowly walked his fingers up her spine, caressing each vertebrae as he moved, until he reached her neck. Threading his fingers in her hair he tested the satin smoothness of the tresses, before gliding the tips of his fingers along her slender nape and the baby soft hairs on her skin. Slipping his fingers against her scalp as he brushed his lips against the slender line of her neck. His body turned rock solid and he had to remind himself to breathe. “I’m glad I rethought things.”

“I am too. I thought I’d have to dance with the fellow who has the slicked back hair and the tattoo of his mom’s face on his chest.” He pulled back slightly. “What do you have against a man who loves his mom?”

“Not a thing, but can you imagine being with a man, making love, and having his mom’s face looking straight at you. A mood-stealer. Not that making love to him crossed my mind… but…”

He laughed. “Yeah, point taken.”

Their gazes connected and his throat tightened. He’d never wanted to kiss a woman more in his life. Truth was, he felt like he was back in college when he was the awkward teenager who couldn’t put two words together without announcing that his cock was hard. He was a bit unpolished when it came to attraction. He remembered what his nurse Maria said, “Just be yourself. That’s what a woman wants.”

“The song is ending, cowboy.” Moon stepped back, smiling, her eyes sparkling.

“Moon…?”

“Cam?”

Fuck! What did he want to say? “If you’ll excuse me, I need to run to the restroom and splash my face with cold water, or maybe dive into the ice bucket behind the bar.” He rubbed his hat down his head, resituating it low on his forehead.

Her laugh was the sweetest, most pleasant sound he’d heard in a long time. “I’ll meet you when you’re finished.”

Where There’s Smoke Book 1

Winter Blog Blurb

Where there’s smoke, Maddox jumps into the flames.

Maddox has been battling California’s wildfires for years. As a smokejumper, he’s trained to take action first and think second, but when he sees the cabin his best buddy owned before his death surrounded by a wall of fire, he can only think of his friend’s widow.

Sydney came to the cabin to ready it to sell. The place holds too many memories for her peace of mind, and after three years of grieving, she’s ready to take a deep breath and move on. But she can’t do that smothered in her cabin.
When the smoke clears…

Maddox needs to evacuate the curvy vixen he has thought about too much since his friend’s passing, but the stubborn woman won’t leave. The team is short-handed, and she’s determined to get hands-on training. Cutting, shoveling, digging—all those things should wear out a woman of her size, but she still has amazing stamina in his bed—as well as bent over logs and pinned against trees.

The smokejumpers aren’t dropped into the danger zone with any water to fight the blaze, which is good because Sydney doesn’t want to douse what she has with Maddox. The sexy firefighter is everything she could want in a lover, and his link to her past makes her feel what they have is real. Until they’re back at base and no longer feeling the heat.

Maddox may never see her as more than his friend’s widow, but Sydney believes this is more than a danger-zone fling.

Winter Blog Review

Sydney is ready to move on, selling their getaway cabin was the next step in the grieving process for her. What she didn’t expect was for the real estate agent she came up to the cabin with to desert her in the path of a wildfire.

When the call comes in Maddox’s team is on route in a couple of minutes. This fire is personal, Rob and Sydney’s cabin is in this fire’s path. Before Rob died they had all spent time there relaxing and enjoying the company.

What Maddox didn’t expect was to find Sydney in the cabin, with no transportation out. After telling her to stay put he joins the others in fighting the fire.

This is a favorite scene.

She stopped and pressed her nose to the window, trying to see anybody out there. But the smoke was too thick and the sound of their saws was moving farther away. She jumped at the sound of every tree falling. She and Rob had cut plenty to keep their cabin protected from just such an occurrence, and they’d been attached to the trees left on their property.

She swallowed hard. “I can’t stay in here any longer,” she murmured to herself, fogging the glass.

Then she whirled away and whipped open the front door. Smoke poured in. She coughed and breathed more shallowly as she stepped onto the porch.

Looking around, she got her bearings. She was safe— the flames seemed to be held away from the cabin. The drone of saws that would have been in the special cargo drop shipment sounded on the west edge of the property.

She closed the door and took off for the sound.

With each step she took, her heart raced faster. She hadn’t felt this adrenaline rush since her last day on the job. A house fire with two victims trapped. She and her team had blasted in, found the people, and gotten them out without incident. They’d all been on a high after that, celebrating back at the station.

Later that night she’d gotten the news about Rob.

She strode faster, determined to not sit this out alone. She needed to be helping— needed to be in the thick of it with people she cared about.

And judging by the expression on Maddox’s face, people who cared about her too.

She spotted him first, hunched over a limb, busy cutting it off so he could shift it into the fire and not let it catch in the yard.

The hot wind whipped at her hair, and she wished she’d tied it back this morning. She swiped it off her face and approached Maddox slowly. Waiting for him to see her.

God, he was beautiful, silhouetted against the fog of smoke, his gear bulking him up, but she knew he was a big guy anyway. Broad shoulders, thick arms. His dark hair and eyes had caught the attention of plenty of girls, and she’d met several. Was he seeing any of them now?

It had been three years. He could be married with kids by now. She’d let herself get so out of touch.

She reached out and rested a hand on his shoulder.

He jerked and straightened, cutting the saw at the same time. The screen on his mask let her see his eyes, which widened in shock— and then narrowed in anger.

He knocked his helmet back and glared at her. “I told you to stay inside.”

“I’m going nuts. I need to help.”

“You don’t have any gear. Dammit, Sydney. I’m trying to keep you safe here.”

“There’s always extra gear in the drop shipment. Don’t you have anything on you?”

“No, Blaze and Lincoln carried a bunch in. I left before they opened the crate.”

That had her mind rushing forward. He’d set off to battle the fire before he was totally equipped?

“Why would you do that?” She had to raise her voice above the noise of thousands of acres of woods being consumed by flames and the buzz of saws.

“Because I made the mistake of stopping to think, and I had to get to the cabin.”

They stared at each other for a long second, and then he issued a low growling noise.

“Fine. Take this.” He handed her his helmet, and she shook her head. He thrust it into her hands. “Do it or go back inside, Syd.”

Sydney gets some real tough on the job training as she works with the smokejumpers to kill this fire. But there’s more heating up than the fire. Maddox has decided she’s his, sort of and the sparks really fly.

Lots of hold your breath moments with lots of sizzling sex and of course there is some grumbling from Maddox when Sydney decides that she will become one of the team.

I look forward to the next book in this series.

Winter Blog Review

Holly wants to experience some new things, to step outside of her comfort zone, even if it’s only for a little while.

Brody gets a kick out of the woman singing in her car at a light. Little did he know he would run into her a few minutes later at Taboo, Hailey’s coffee shop. This is a favorite scene.

“You weren’t that off-key, just saying.”

Holly whirled around, nearly knocking over her tea in the process. The guy from the bike reached around her quickly to keep the glass upright. The movement put the heat of him dangerously close to her skin.

“Wha… How did you know I was going to be here?” She swallowed hard. She hated coincidences, and this one felt a little too weird.

“It was you?” Hailey asked with a smile. “I should have known the guy on the bike telling people to sing and be amazing was you. Holly, this is Brody. Brody, this is Holly. He’s a regular over at the shop and a friend of the Montgomerys. I’m surprised you two haven’t met before.”

“I’m surprised, too,” he murmured.

Holly just sat there, confused.

“Anyway, I liked that you sang as if no one was watching,” Brody drawled. Damn it. The man drawled. Not only did he have a very nice face with perfect lips and a perfect jaw but he also had that hair that was longer on top than it was in the back or on the sides. So when he moved his arm up to push his hair from his eyes, it made his biceps bulge in just the right way.

This man was dangerous.

And, yes…Holly had just said she wanted a little danger.

“Thanks. I think?”

He studied her face for a moment before sticking his hands in his pockets. “I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. Sorry if I did.”

Holly was aware that Hailey and Arianna were watching with rapt attention, but she ignored the other two women.

“You didn’t make me feel bad. Just the opposite, in fact.”

Brody smiled then, and her heart did that little fast beat thing she thought was just in movies. While Brody was handsome in general, the smile just pushed it to the next level.

Holy hell. The man was sex on a stick.

“That’s good to know,” he said smoothly, his voice going deeper. “And if you’d ever like to test out that adventure on the back of my bike, since I saw the way you were looking at it, just let me know.” He grinned this time. “I’ll be right over at the shop if you’re interested after you finish your meal. It’s nice to meet you, Holly.” He nodded toward the others. “Ladies.”

And with that, he strolled away, back toward Montgomery Ink. Holly’s eyes were glued to his very firm butt encased in perfect-fitting jeans.

Winter Blog Blurb

As a girl, Ash James wanted a knight in shining armor to carry her away and together they would live happily-ever-after.

And then she grew up and waiting tables at a greasy diner blemished her fairy tales.

Her idea of a perfect prince matured and she had an appetite for alpha: sexy, muscled and scintillating. Declan Knight was everything she wanted—everything she found mysterious. When he walked—no, strutted—into her life she was ready to throw uncertainty, and her apron, out the window.

Her knight put a ring on her finger and whisked her away to the ‘castle’ where she settled in nicely, until she soon realized every prince can turn into a toad. Before long she was back wearing a faded uniform, living on tips and scrimping to get by. And keeping her sister out of trouble. Sometimes deadly trouble.

Fate has a plan and her name is Angelina Knight. How will Declan’s late sister play the role of fairy godmother? How will Declan save Ash from someone who is out to harm her?

Will Ash see that sometimes a toad just needs a kiss…a touch…and endless nights of passion to turn him back into a prince?

Winter Blog Review

Declan Knight has a problem, he needs a wife for his latest deal to go through. The problem is he already has one. He hadn’t seen her in five years but neither of them has sought a divorce.

Ash has worked hard these last five years, waitressing at the diner until she’s ready to drop and going to school to get her degree in social work. One more semester and she’d be done with her graduate work. Everything was finally falling into place, that is until her sister Ally came to her with yet another problem. This one financial and there was only one way to solve it, Declan. She never asked him for anything, but she hasn’t forgotten him either.

So to help her sister, she goes to ask Declan for the money. However, she didn’t expect to run from him without it. As she tries to figure out how to tell her sister she failed, there is a knock at her door. This is a favorite scene.

“What are you doing here?” she said through tight lips.

“Is that any way to treat your husband, bella?”

“How did you find me?”

“Google. Now can I come in?”

A long second floated by and he started to believe she’d turn him away, but then she pushed the door open farther with her bare foot and stepped aside so that he could pass. He stepped in and closed the door. The apartment was neat and tidy, and the rustic decorations were warm and welcoming. She stood in the middle of the living room, her arms crossed over her chest and her chin set in a curious tilt.

“You didn’t answer me. Why are you here?”

“Our conversation wasn’t through.”

“Oh, I think we both said enough.”

He sighed. “I had time to think after you left.” She tapped her toe in irritation. He smiled. “May I have a seat?” He pointed to the worn, flowered sofa.

She blinked. “Sure.”

He sat down and a spring popped up, poking him in the bottom. If he didn’t know better, he’d think she managed that on purpose.

“Will you sit also?”

Dropping her hands, she sat on the far corner of the couch. “Better?”

“Much.” He laid his palms on his thighs. “Answer one question. If I give you the money, you won’t be in harm’s way, right?”

She didn’t meet his stare. “I’m safe.”

“I think I’ve figured a way that we can both help each other.”

“By getting a divorce?”

One thin brow snapped up over her dark eyes.

“Hear me out. I’ve found myself in a bit of a situation. I need a wife.”

She jumped up. “I’m not sleeping with you for the money.”

“Sit down, bella. You have to hear me out.” He waved her down. Once she was seated again, he continued, “I have a business deal that requires companionship. I can explain the details later, if you agree, but my offer is that you spend the month with me, as my wife, and after thirty days I will grant you a divorce and we’ll call the thirty grand a settlement.”

She tucked her bottom lip between her teeth and nibbled, several expressions flitting across her face. “And what if I say no?”

“Then I’m filing for divorce and I’m keeping the thirty grand.”

“I thought you weren’t one to buy himself a wife?”

“Desperate measures call for desperate moves.”

“I need time to think this over.”

“You have five minutes to make a decision. Time is of utmost importance.” Hannigan was coming into town in a matter of days.

“Are you doing this to teach me a lesson?” Her soft voice made the hairs on his neck stand.

“I told you, I have a business deal that requires matrimony.”

“Should I believe you?”

“Ahh, and I should just hand over a wad of cash, no questions asked?” He snapped up a brow.

“I asked for a loan and I said I’ll pay interest.”

“And my offer makes much more sense.”

“Because it suits you.”

“It doesn’t suit you to act as my wife, as you already are, and walk away thirty grand richer?”

Her tongue came out and swept across her bottom lip. “Only thirty days?”
Carver, Rhonda Lee. His Weekend Wife (The KNIGHT Brothers Book 2) (Kindle Locations 1063-1096). Kindle Edition.

Oh what a tangled web, that unravels as this story progresses. From a complete makeover to the business deal, to letters from Declan’s sister.

An intricate love story that shouldn’t have ended to begin with. The attraction that still exists is more than sizzling. And the added intrigue of Ally and her boyfriend adds more than a little angst.

I really can’t wait for the next book in this series!
