Wolves of Willow Bend Book 10

Most wolves will roam at some point in their lives, fledgling adults leave to explore the world while more senior wolves may undertake a journey they always wanted to take. Many came home again, but Mitch Jackson didn’t. He loved his life on the road, first as a roadie for a rock band, traveling from city to city, then later as an animal trainer for a circus. He’s had a lot of jobs and all of them fun. Two years as an Enforcer hasn’t curbed his smile, but a rogue invasion of Russian wolves are enough to put a damper on anyone’s party, especially when they set their sights on the packs’ more vulnerable members.

Amelia Sullivan couldn’t stay in Willow Bend, not after her sister embraced the life she’d always wanted. It aggravated her that Shiloh’s defiance earned her a free pass from their family, and parents who’d raised them all to reject the idea of going wolf. Taking the first excuse she can to go to a cooking school on the west coast, she flees. The last thing she expected was an order to return home within three months of her getting away. She wasn’t a wolf, she doesn’t have to obey. Of course, not following the rules proves even more costly than she can imagine when she finds herself a prisoner and the change she always thought she wanted forced upon her…

Rescuing Amelia seemed a straightforward job until Mitch realizes what they’ve done, then saving her life proves to be the easier task as she undergoes her first transformation far from any alpha. Can a happy go lucky Enforcer find the strength to keep her sane.

Winter Blog Review

The Russian Rogues have gone too far. They have targeted the weakest pack members, the humans. Mitch has been assigned to rescuing Amanda and what he finds appalls him. At least he finds her alive, feverish and not coherent, but alive.

This is favorite scene as they leave the warehouse where she had been held.

“You’re very ill, and I’m very sorry for this, little sister.”“Sorry for what?”

He picked her up. Although she tried to struggle, she didn’t manage to do more than slap a hand to his chest. So very solid. Hard. And warm.

Too warm. “I’m cold. Stop.” He didn’t listen. Instead, he pivoted away from her little shady spot and stalked back out into the light. It stung in her eyes, so she squeezed them shut and hid her face against his chest. It didn’t help. The blades digging their way through her skull bore into her brain like hot ice, freezing and burning in the same breath.

“I’m going to be late…”

“Don’t you worry, little sister, I won’t let that happen.”

“I don’t know you.”

His chest rumbled, then he said, “I’m Mitch.” He set her inside a car that reeked of sourness, blood, and other gross matters. It smelled like the horrible room downstairs. She didn’t want to be in there, and she began to fight. She wanted out, but strong hands held her still and then dragged the strap of the seatbelt across her. They weren’t going to tie her up again.

“I don’t want to die.”

His face swam up and filled her vision, before she realized his fingers were on her jaw again. Nose to nose, she had nowhere to look but right into his eyes.

“Hear me, Amelia O’Sullivan. You are not going to die. I will allow nothing else to happen to you. You are safe.

She wasn’t going to die. She was really safe? God help her, she believed him.

“Trust me.” Power seem to punch up the syllables and they hammered through the ice taking over her soul. God how she wanted to. She truly wanted to believe him.

“Good girl. Smart, little sister. Yes, I’m Mitch.”

“I’m thirsty.”

“We’ll get you some water. Stay.” He shut the door and left her alone inside the stinky car. Forever later, the other side of the car opened and Mitch appeared. The sunlight haloed him and he seemed to glow. He filled her vision, and she realized he was an angel.

Of course he was an angel. “Why would any alpha send someone to save me? I’m nobody.”

A hand came across hers and gripped her fingers, and she found herself clinging to it desperately. “I don’t want to die.” Blessed blackness swamped her and the world vanished. Deep down, she wasn’t truly asleep. It was weird to realize that she wasn’t resting and that she was aware in this darkness. This darkness didn’t fill her with terror. This darkness was safe. A darkness under the shroud of an angel’s wings.

Somewhere she heard a wolf howl…
Heather Long. Shadow Wolf (Kindle Locations 512-534). Kindle Edition.

Mitch has his work cut out for him as they make their way to safety, first to get rid of their pursuers, then to acquire new vehicles to reach their destination without being detected.

With Amelia so ill, himself injured and without a cellphone, Mitch decides the best place for them to be is his own cabin. As he tends her wounds, he realizes she has been bitten multiple times. He’s promised to keep her safe but if she doesn’t handle the change he may have to kill her if she survives it at all.

In spite of an ice storm, they really can’t stay sequestered at the cabin any longer than necessary. Julian needs to know what happened as does Mason. Plus they need to figure out what the Russian wolves next move might be.

While they are sheltered and alone at the cabin, there is fun, revelations and some really hot sex. All while Mitch is trying do for her what would normally be handled by her Alpha.

Action, excitement, nail-biting, and a surprising conclusion. Do not miss this book!

Winter Blog About Author

Heather Long   Heather Long

National bestselling author, Heather Long, likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas in the summertime.

From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories–her characters drive the books.

When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. She believes if you like your heroes so real you could lick the grit off their chest, and your heroines so likable, you’re sure you’ve been friends with women just like them, you’ll enjoy her worlds as much as she does.
