Catching Zia
Spring Training Book 1

Winter Blog Blurb

This first book in the series, Catching Zia, features the second baseman and his desire to meet a woman who isn’t after him for his money or his celebrity status.

With two strikes against him, this baseball player is desperate to make contact.

Zia’s main passion in life is art. And she’d gladly spend days on end sketching the hunky man who stops to admire her work while jogging through the park one sunny afternoon.

Brett has been ogling Zia for days. The sketch in her lap provides the perfect opening. When it’s immediately obvious she has no idea he’s a major league baseball player, he relishes the opportunity to take a gorgeous woman out on a normal date.

But what Brett doesn’t know is that Zia grew up with a compulsive liar, and his omission is more than she can tolerate. Second chances are rare in this life, and somehow Brett manages to squander that one also. He’s got an uphill battle if he wants to fight for this strong-willed woman.

Winter Blog Review

Zia is a down to earth kind of girl, she loves her art and even though her job as a nanny will be coming to an end she doesn’t know if she has enough incentive to go the ‘starving’ artist route. She’s sold some of her work and her best friend has been at her to do a show, but bills need to be paid regularly.

Brett is enjoying his last few weeks before heading to spring training. He jogs every morning and has noticed a young woman on several of his runs. He wasn’t sure how to approach her, mostly women came on to him but this one was different, special, he wanted to get to know her without the stigma of being a ball player. When he stopped by the bench where she was engrossed in sketching he knew he found an opening. This is a favorite scene.

The sexy hot guy is still talking to me…

“Mmm.” He snapped his fingers. “Do you do murals by any chance? Like wall murals?”

“I have, on occasion. I did some for the kids I watch. And some of their friends.” You need some teddy bears on a wall in your house? Suddenly she jerked her gaze to his left hand to see if he was married. Maybe he had kids and needed to hire someone to paint their rooms.

Nope. Or at least he didn’t wear a ring. There wasn’t a tan line or an indentation either, but that didn’t necessarily mean anything. Some people didn’t like to wear a wedding ring.

Surely he wouldn’t have made a flippant statement about kids being confusing and sticky if he had his own, though.

Before he spoke again, he reached over his shoulder with one hand and tugged his scrap of T-shirt over his head.

Holy mother of God. He was so freakishly built. His damn chest was like a sculpture. If she had some clay, she would love to have him pose for a day and let her recreate him. Or maybe it would take two days. She might even be able to drag it out longer.

Brett wiped the sweat off his face with his wadded T-shirt. “My sister’s about to have a baby,” he beamed. “It’s a girl. She’s been looking for someone to do a mural on one wall of the nursery. Fairies or something. Could you do it?”

Ah, so there was a reason this man was speaking to her. Bingo. It wasn’t because he thought she was cute or beautiful or gorgeous or sexy or whatever men needed to think to ask a woman out. It was because he needed her services.

She blew out a breath and let her shoulders fall. This was more comfortable territory than thinking he was attracted to her.

Wasn’t it?

Or maybe it was actually disappointing deep down.

He stared at her quizzically.

Shit. He’d asked her a question. “Uh, I suppose. Yes. Does she live near here? When does she need it?”

He nodded. “Close, yes. And she still has a few weeks. How long does a mural usually take?”

“Oh, it depends. But often not more than a day or two. I can do it on my days off. Usually over a weekend.”

“Cool. Do you have a card or something? I could have her call you.” This conversation was more bizarre than any she’d ever had. She didn’t know this man. He could be a serial killer for all she knew. Although that wasn’t likely considering how normal he seemed— if you overlooked his physique. That part was not remotely normal.

“No.” She felt a flush race up her cheeks. “Haven’t really needed one. But I’ve got a website if she wants to see some of my previous work. It’s not much, but it’s there.” She reached into her bag and pulled out a coffee shop receipt. Flipping it over, she wrote her web address and phone number on the back side and then handed it to him.

Who in their right mind would contact her after that most unprofessional exchange? She really did need business cards if she ever expected to make a go of her art career.

Who was she kidding? An art career? She’d been slowly accumulating pieces for the last few years. But the reality was she didn’t have the savings to take a risk and go all in. She needed a backup job to keep the rent paid. So, she’d been scouring the want ads for another family needing a nanny.

Maybe she was selling herself short? She sat up straighter, smiled warmly, and made a mental decision to expand her job focus. “I’d be happy to meet with your sister sometime to discuss the possibilities. If she’s interested.”

Brett tucked the receipt in his shorts pocket and smiled back at her.
“Perfect. I’ll let her know.”
Becca Jameson. Catching Zia (Kindle Locations 97-126). Becca Jameson.

Of course he would be at his sister’s home when she worked. He planned it so he could take her to dinner. A dinner where the attraction between them grew to be sizzling.

However his sins of omission would cause a rift undermining his attempts to further their connection.

I can’t say how many times I shook my head and said no, no, no, in this. Men can be so dumb sometimes and women can be so stubborn.

This is not a typical relationship since Brett is a ‘star’, but it’s definitely a challenging one. Steamy sex and misunderstandings make for a page turning read.

A mother’s love is her greatest power.

Divinity witch, Desiree Sanders has made a lot of bad choices in her life, but trusting the demoness, Samoan should earn her the award for traitor of the millennium. After several failed attempts to set things right, Desiree turns to the dark, sexy Death Demon, Lex for help saving her son and ending the war.

There’s no darker place than the soul of a demon.

Until he meets the quiet and beautiful Desiree, and the walls around his heart start to crumble. When she calls him for help, broken and scared, he can’t deny her, and the urge to claim her for his own becomes an overwhelming need.

Trapped in the Underworld as the war between witches and demons escalates, Lex and Desiree must face their pasts and their fears—and open their hearts—if they are to find a way out. Meanwhile, the Divinities in the natural world prepare for a battle that is no longer just dark versus light. If lost, it could mean the end of life as they know it.

Winter Blog Review

This final episode begins right where Dark Divine ends. With the rescue of Teddy and Bear, Hecate’s hell hounds and keepers of the sinew, from Hell. Unfortunately Samoan has managed to created a dark sinew, forcing the gods to close the portals to the human world. Lex and Desiree now have to find a way out of hell, and join the others in stopping the coming apocalypse.

This is a favorite scene right after the portals close.

Stuck in Hell with a Death Demon without the earth her Divinity half craved… The magic in the Underworld was heavy and dark. She needed to get home.

Folding her arms, she glared at Lex while trying to tamp down the rush of desire his presence caused. “I hope you know of a way to get back home.”

He grunted and pushed past her as if ending the conversation.

Oh no, he doesn’t. She whirled around and followed him through the living room to the study across from his bedroom. “There is another way out, right?”

Another grunt was her answer.

She pursed her lips and studied him as he pulled several books from the shelves. “What are you looking for?”

“A way out.”

Well, didn’t that answer her questions? She rolled her eyes and left the room. Fine. If he weren’t going to talk to her, she’d search for her own way home. Pushing out the back door, she scowled at the gloom of the Underworld. The air held hints of rosemary and sulfur. Reminded her of Samoan’s scent, only not as sweet.

Breathing deeply, she closed her eyes and called her Porter half to the surface, beseeching the lost souls she felt in every shadow of the Underworld to aid her in crossing to the natural realm. Instead of helping her, they attacked. Rushed around her, through her, raging like angry beams of light.

What the fuck? There were too many of them tearing at her. They called her a witch and thought she was responsible for trapping them there. Many even screamed in her mind. She curled into a ball on the ground, her arms wrapped protectively around her head.

Pain rocketed through her, and she screamed out as she blasted the spirits with everything she had stored up and hadn’t gotten to use at the castle. Instantly, they vanished.

Uncurling and pushing to her feet, she met the green eyes of a hellhound. He watched her with eyes much too humanlike. Then a shudder went through its body as it…shifted?

A moment later, Mathew stood in front of her. My son. Her heart lurched in her chest and tears filled her eyes. “Matty,” she breathed, making the kid narrow his eyes in curiosity.

“No one calls me that. Who are you?”

Chest tightening, she knew he wouldn’t remember her. Yet, she had to try. Tears filled her eyes. “I’m your mother.”

When she stepped forward, he backed up, shaking his head. “My mother’s dead.”

Anger rose up then. Samoan would die when Desiree found the bitch. “Samoan lied to you like she lied to me.”

Just then, darkness settled around them, making the gloomy realm almost lightless. The air grew heavier with black magic. It was as if something had changed the Underworld.

Matty looked at the sky and scowled. “It has begun.” Then he took off into the forest.
Lia Davis. Divine Awakening (Kindle Locations 102-130). After Glows.

What ensues from here is a race against the clock. The Divinities need to kill Samoan and get the dark sinew. Then deal with Kahn.

Things become tense in the human realm, as the divinities attempt to raise an army strong enough to beat whatever Samoan and Khan throw at them.

Never a dull moment in this one. As Matthew figures out that Samoan was indeed lying about his mother, he also chooses the Divinities’ side. All while keeping the extent of his powers a secret.

Lots of secrets revealed and an explosive conclusion.

You won’t be able to put this one down.

When a billionaire and his wife are in jeopardy, life is doubly dangerous for their bodyguards.

Guarding a billionaire couple on a fix-it or forget-it vacation, at a highly-exclusive resort on a remote island was Ryleigh Davenport’s dream assignment. Except, she’d been partnered with her former lover, Blake Albright, the soldier she’d been forced to leave behind without a word. When the threats against the CEO and his wife turn to murder attempts, will Riley and Blake find comfort in each other once again?

Winter Blog Review

Guardian Security has finally found a woman with the qualifications to be a part of their team. Ryleigh spent a lot of time in the sandbox embedded as an informant. Her partner turned out to be a traitor and she has now left the military behind.

When Blake first sees Ryleigh he thinks she is a potential client, but when he realizes who she is, well let’s say he’s not sure if he’s angry or happy. They had a relationship and she disappeared without a word.

Ryleigh and Blake are given an assignment before she can unpack. A valid threat has been made against Billionaire CEO Duke Wainwright’s wife and they need additional security for their vacation at an exclusive resort.

This is a favorite scene as the assignment is given and explained.

“No.” Wyatt explained, “Mr. Wainwright has received what we have determined to be credible threats to his life. The most recent one arrived an hour ago and threatened to kill his wife. He is not expecting trouble on the exclusive island, but he’d rather be safe than sorry. That’s why you two are going.”

“Just the two of us?” Blake asked, his jaw dropping slightly.

“Yes.” Alex’s eyes narrowed. “Do you have a problem with that?”

“Sir,” Blake protested. “If the Wainwrights are truly in danger, I’d rather have my standard contingent of six of my best men to protect him and his wife.”

Wyatt shook his head. “Mrs. Wainwright is vehemently against any protection services. She believes the exclusivity of the resort, which owns the whole damn island, and their promised increased security, is enough.”

Alex’s gaze moved from Blake to Ryleigh. “But Duke isn’t satisfied. He finally got Ella to agree on one man and one woman.” When he smiled at her, she knew exactly what Katlin saw in her Latin lover. Damn, he was handsome. “I knew hiring you was a good decision.”

Ryleigh wasn’t sure he really had a choice given that one of her best friends owned part of the company. Even so, she would do everything in her power to prove Alex right. He’d jumped far out on a limb for her. “Thank you, sir. I won’t let you down.”

“Okay, so I’ll be protecting Mr. Wainwright, and Ryleigh will handle Mrs. Wainwright’s protection?” Blake asked. “Will they be staying in separate villas or hotel rooms?”

Wyatt shuffled his feet and the corners of Alex’s mouth kicked up. “I’m only telling you this because I believe it’s necessary for you to know in order to effectively guard the Wainwright’s.” Alex took a deep breath and ran his hand over his angled face. “I’ve known Duke and Ella for several years. The man is a fucking genius and has done wonders with the family company. But I can tell you from experience, growth like that comes at a personal cost.”

Ryleigh could see the truth in Alex’s eyes before he continued. “This trip was Ella’s idea, and she had planned it for months. I think, and this is just my personal opinion, that she hopes to pull Duke away from his all-consuming work and back into their relationship.” Alex grinned. “Sometimes we men need a kick in the ass to see what’s right in front of us.”

Under his breath, Wyatt quietly added, “Or bullets flying at us.”

Alex chuckled. “Yeah. Some of us are denser than others.”

Ryleigh would have to ask Katlin about that inside joke. Pulling the conversation back to the situation at hand, she asked, “So what’s our cover story?”

“You are traveling with them as their friends,” Alex explained. “But don’t ever forget, you’re there to protect them.”

Once again, Blake clarified, “So I’m going as Mr. Wainwright’s buddy, and Ryleigh is going as Mrs. Wainwright’s BFF?”

“No.” Wyatt dragged out the word. “You two are going as Mr. and Mrs. Seasnan.”

“Seasnan?” Ryleigh and Blake said in unison.

“Who the hell came up with that name?” Blake spit out.

“Blame Katlin for that one.” Alex shrugged. “It’s Gaelic for bodyguard.”

Ryleigh burst out laughing. “That sounds like Katlin. During training she used to come up with the most bizarre names for people and places, almost all of them based in Gaelic.” She looked at Alex. “You’ve heard from her lately?”

A warm smile crossed his usually hard face. “Yes. A few hours ago. She’s on her way home.” He looked at his watch. “Sorry to cut this meeting short, Wyatt, but I need to catch a plane to D.C. Your center looks wonderful, as always.”

Alex extended his hand to Ryleigh. “Welcome aboard Guardian Security.”
KaLyn Cooper. Double Jeopardy (Kindle Locations 213-242). Kindle Edition.

Within minutes of their arrival an attempt on Duke’s life is made. Fortunately the head of security for the Island isn’t so arrogant as to protest further assistance. Even with two additional bodyguards the attempts keep coming. One of which almost takes out Ryleigh.

It’s then that she realizes she doesn’t want to stay away from Blake and the temperature goes up.

Action packed, suspenseful and definitely hotter than the climate.

Out Now, the second exciting book in the Drug of Desire series: Entrusted by Sidney Bristol

Drug of Desire #2
Sidney Bristol

Winter Blog Blurb

A lifetime spent working undercover for the DEA has left Matías Govea wondering, just who the hell he is? A BDSM Dominant? A son? A brother? Who is he? He’ll have to assume one, last identity before he can figure out the answers, but this might be the hardest gig of all…because of her.

Raven Benally grew up in the cockpit of a plane under the watchful eye of her father and uncles. Only now the family is fractured and it’s up to her to pull off one more gig before she can branch out on her own. All she has to do is fly the smoking hot federal officer to Mexico and back.

When a simple buy-bust goes south, it’s up to Matías to pull off the biggest deception ever. He must not only convince a notorious Colombian drug dealer he’s not a fed, but he must also pass Raven off as a sexual submissive and his lover. In the far flung reaches of the jungle, these friends-turned-lovers have only each other to rely on.

Warning: Contains a man fond of belts, a woman who didn’t know she likes to be spanked, and a complicated web of emotions.

Winter Blog Review

One last job, a final takedown and he would retire from this hellish undercover job with the DEA.

The last thing Matías expected when he arrived for his flight was that his pilot was Raven. The granddaughter of his usual pilot, someone who know him as himself not an alias. She has always been a bright light in the darkness for him with her sweetness.

Raven has to do this flight for her grandfather and she couldn’t let Matías know the reason why. It was simple just a quick flight in, let Matías do his thing and fly them out. She would stay in the plane no one would see her then she would be home. She would pack up her things, take her plane and find her father. Never to return to the reservation again.

Victor making him wait was nothing new to Matías so he joined Raven in the slightly cooler interior of the plane. This is part of their conversation and a favorite scene, given their circumstances.

“Why’d he leave?”

She hesitated again, stirring up his curiosity. Raven always talked to him. What was stopping her now?

“He didn’t tell me everything. I can only guess, but I think he and Grandpa got into it over something that was business and personal. As soon as he was gone they stopped the plans we’d made for the Cessna and that was it. I was back to crop dusting.”

“Damn. There’s no upward movement, so you have to go somewhere else.” He chuckled. Great choice of words, bro. “I mean, you can’t get promoted.”

“No, not when it’s just family.” She sighed.

“What about going somewhere else?” He knew that Raven’s family had stayed closer to the reservation, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t strike out and have a successful career elsewhere.

“I’ve been thinking about it, but I don’t have enough formal training to qualify for much. My options are limited.”

“Maybe you need to get away, clear your head.” Matías couldn’t help but feel invested in whatever Raven did with her future. He understood the difficulties that came from building your life from nothing. In many ways, they had taken similar paths.

“You free this weekend?”

“What’s this weekend?”

She shrugged and smiled, a little of the sunshine coming back. “Getting away. I’ve got a plane.”

“That’s one hell of an invitation.” Put the brakes on, man.

One side of her mouth curled up and her smile became sly. “Got a destination in mind?”

Chicago. House Surrender. Leather. Cuffs. A dragon tail whip. Screaming orgasms, and not the kind you got in a shot glass.

“There’s a lot of places I’d like to actually get to see.” He shrugged and glanced away from her.

“Well, if you decide someplace sounds good, let me know. I can get almost anywhere in a couple of hours.”

Was she serious? His gut said yes. Raven was just the type of woman to pack up and fly herself someplace new. If he extended a weekend invitation to her—she’d be there. Did she know what that meant? Unlikely, but what if he left the kinky stuff behind for a couple of days? Could he do it? Maybe rent a cabin somewhere on a lake or a river, far away from anything, and just—be. Be whoever he wanted to be. Enjoy her company, let things take their natural course. But what if he wanted more? The truth would eventually come out.

Raven’s smile evaporated and her gaze narrowed. “We’ve got company.”
Sidney Bristol. Entrusted: A Drug of Desire Novel (Kindle Locations 364-386). Sidney Bristol. Kindle Edition.

Of course you knew it wasn’t going to be that easy, didn’t you?

Victor has plans for Matías whom he knows as Jose. Plans and also an agenda that has nothing to do with their initial contract.

From the moment Victor enters the plane, Matías knows this is going to be far more difficult than the initial plan. He has no choice but to claim Raven is his, and is relieved when she accepts it and plays along.

What follows is an intense, suspenseful, page turning drama. Filled with emotions, a delightful discovery of submission and a secret that could destroy everything.

Do not miss this book, but plan to read from beginning to end. There is no putting this one down.

Winter Blog Review

Wow this book starts off with a bang! A private play party in a luxurious castle like mansion. Our heroine Poppy, a switch, was looking for a change or even just something different. Not finding anything to entice her to play, she changes from her party clothes and retreats to the library. Seeking the solace of quiet in the room and a book.

Damien is a DEA agent, he keeps his work and personal preferences separate. He didn’t want anyone misconstruing his lifestyle for anything other than it was. When he spotted Poppy he was intrigued by her. Her long golden hair led him to think of her as Rapunzel. When she vanished before he could approach her, he went looking for her.

This is a favorite scene when he finds her in the library.

Damien cleared his throat and let his boots thud on the tile floor as he stopped in front of her.

The woman sat up suddenly, blinking as if she had been dozing and was just waking up. Her gaze landed on him and she froze. In the dim light, wearing all black, he was probably a bit difficult to see.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you.” No, he’d just wanted her awake. He added a smile to further put her at ease. “May I join you?”

“Depends if you make a habit of hovering about watching people.” Color rose in her cheeks, giving them a pink hue. Damn if it didn’t entice him more.

Damien grinned. “Got me there. It’s not a habit, I promise.”

“Have a seat if you like.” She swung her feet off the chaise, lifting a book from her lap. She covered her mouth while she yawned, and even that gesture was cute.

“What are you reading?” he asked as he sank into an uncomfortable leather chair.

Her lips curled into a smile and she flashed the book’s cover at him. A shirtless man graced the front. “A trashy romance novel. Want to read a page?”

“He looks like he’s constipated.” Damien held out his hand, now more curious than ever about her. “What’s it about?”

She handed the book over and her smile widened. “A wolf-shifter alpha has to take a vampire queen as his mate to save his pack, but what he doesn’t know is that the vampire coven has organized the marriage— mating— to get rid of her and the pack, because they want to suck the blood of everyone in this town on one special night so they’ll become uber-powerful.” She curled her legs under her and propped her chin on her fist. “I’m at the part where the vampire and the wolf are realizing the plot against them, but they’ve already fallen for each other.”

“I … see.” He shook his head. The stuff in books made everyday life seem normal. Damien started where she’d left off, at the top of the left-hand page, and began reading. “He dug his hand into her hair and pulled, exposing the long column of her neck. His bite, the mark of a mate, stood out on her pale flesh. Adam slapped the round curve of her bottom. She moaned. His little vamp liked pain with her pleasure. He delivered several blows to her bottom until her skin turned a rosy red and her head tossed back and forth in pleasure. ‘I’m going to tie you to this wall, bite you until not an inch is left unmarked. Then I’ll fuck you until you scream,’ he said.” Damien stopped there and studied his new companion. “If this is trashy, I’ll take a copy.”

She sputtered and laughed, none of the unease he’d glimpsed earlier evident in the comfortable way she reclined across from him.

“I’m serious. Does he really tie her up?” He slipped the bookmark back between the pages and laid the book on his lap.

“I don’t know. Someone interrupted me.” She bit her lower lip and her eyes seemed to sparkle. Rapunzel was an accurate name for her. There was an air of mischief and wonder about her. The blond hair only added to the picture.

Being any kind of police has it’s difficulties, but especially with the alphabet agencies. These are the men and women who can be called away at any time, regardless of what they are doing.

The take-down for the case he was working couldn’t have come at a worse time. He needed to be doing after-care and instead had to pass it to someone else. His job wouldn’t wait.

I really loved this book, it kept me on my toes through the whole thing. Between Damien apologizing, and extremely hot scenes, there is the turmoil of a blossoming relationship. To the suspense of tracking the bad guy that got away. This is a book that doesn’t let you put it down.

Release Day! Sheltering Adeline by Susan Stoker

Shelter for Adeline
Texas Heroes Book 7
Susan Stoker

Winter Blog Blurb

Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn’t look like she’ll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she’s about to have an epileptic seizure—and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.

Dean—known as “Crash” to his friends—didn’t expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he’s blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct—along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean’s feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.

As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away…and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

Winter Blog Review

We meet Adeline as she is on a first date with a guy registered on a dating site. It quickly went downhill when her service dog, Coco, alerts her she has a seizure impending. Jerk leaves her instead of helping her find the safe place she requested.

Fortunately Dean aka Crash a paramedic from Firehouse 7 is there. He doesn’t think twice about it and brings her across the street to the firehouse. I fell in love right then, but even more in this scene after her seizure.

She took a deep swallow and sat back with a sigh. As quickly as she relaxed, her body tensed and she sat forward as if she was about to stand up. “Well, thank you for helping me out, I appreciate it. I should get going.”

“Stay,” Crash immediately protested. “At least for a while.”

“I’m really all right,” Adeline said softly. “Unfortunately, I’m used to the seizures and they don’t wreck me like they used to.”

Crash sat on the couch next to her. He felt exactly like he did the first time he’d asked a girl out in the seventh grade. Nervous and hopeful at the same time. “It’s not that, I…damn. Okay, if you’re sure.”

“What is it?” Adeline asked, looking concerned now. “Did something happen while I was out of it?”

“No,” Crash protested immediately. “Nothing like that… Are you seeing anyone?”

She looked taken aback at his question, but Crash was relieved when she answered immediately without looking away from him. “No. Why?”

“The guy at the diner wasn’t your boyfriend?”

Adeline wrinkled her nose adorably. “No. First—and last—date.”

“You never got to eat. Want to go back across the street and grab something…with me?”

“Are you asking me out?”

“Yes. Obviously very badly, since you have to clarify,” he said sheepishly.

“Oh…well…you don’t have to babysit me. I’m okay. Honest.”

“I don’t want to babysit you,” he said immediately.

The fact of the matter was he did want to keep his eye on her for a while to make sure she was okay after the seizure. But it wasn’t just that. He was nervous…which was out of character for him. Asking women out usually didn’t faze him. But for some reason, Adeline had gotten to him.

“I’d like to get to know you,” he told her honestly. “And you have to be hungry.” He added the last bit to try to cajole her.

“You don’t care that I have epilepsy?”

“Or that I have a dog?”

“No. I love dogs.”

She considered him for a long moment, then finally nodded. “Okay. Then yes, I’d like to have lunch with you.”

“Thank God,” Crash breathed out and pantomimed wiping sweat from his brow.

Adeline chuckled.

Crash stood and held his hand out to her. “Lunch awaits.”

Taking his hand, she stood as well. He kept hold of hers as he led the way to the door. Feeling her small, smooth fingers around his as they walked made Crash smile. There was just something about her that made him feel as though he could do anything.

Maybe he was an idiot. Maybe Adeline was a horrible person. But as stupid as it seemed, for some reason, Crash felt as if he was taking the first steps toward his future.
Stoker, Susan. Shelter For Adeline (Kindle Locations 171-194).Kindle Edition.

I loved Crash’s nervousness as he asks her for a date. Their first real date was just inspiring. I wish guys would really give as much thought to a date as Dean did.

As their relationship develops she meets his other teammates as well as the law enforcement friends from this series. Including Penelope and the wives that readers love so very much.

Adeline is looking for a new job, her boss is an arse who steals credit for everyone’s work. He’s always trying to get her to have lunch with him to discuss her ideas for his clients. She really dislikes him and tries to be pleasant. Dean hasn’t met him and doesn’t like him and I was with him in that opinion. I don’t know if I would have been as nice as Adeline.

Lots of love, compassion and some pretty steamy sex as we watch Dean and Adeline’s attraction become more. Love is never too quick to surface when the pairing is right.

As always there are situations that bring to light the issues faced when one has a disability. This one gives a glimpse of a few of those specific to service dogs.

We also get to know Roman aka Chief, in this one. I love this man, but Susan has someone picked out for him…as we find out at the end of this book.

Once you start reading be prepared to finish the book, you won’t want to put it down for anything.

Winter Blog Review

This book is our introduction to the Island, the Resort, the Owner, and the Staff.

First we meet Antonio Aragon, he is the owner of Aragon Island and the Resort Indulgences. His lover and business partner Kenderly lives with him in this paradise and works on the fantasies and Marco strikes me as a fun loving trouble maker. Although it does seem he plays an integral part in the planning the fantasies.

Here’s a little peek as they drive to pick up two of the guests at the airfield. It had me giggling.

“Every guest is so different. No matter what their fantasy is, there is always something special about each of them,” Kenderly told them. “Fate has such an interesting way of choosing who comes here.”

“Fate,” Antonio repeated. “The one thing none of us can control.”

“Which is what makes life interesting,” Kenderly said, reaching for his hand.

“Especially when in the midst of great change, we miss its cue.”

If she was trying to tell him something, Antonio chose to ignore it. Now wasn’t the time for Kenderly to bring up anything personal.

“Oh, look at that beautiful parrot. I’m going to get a picture. I may get my hair colored to match.” Mario lifted his cell phone and began taking pictures of the large bird.

How the flamboyant man had become such an integral part of the resort staff was puzzling.
McQueen, Hildie. Indulgences: Prologue (An Indulgence Novella Book 1) (Kindle Locations 183-192). Kindle Edition.

I can see a troublemaker or two in this one. Ones that can pop up any time. I can’t wait to see how things progress as each of these authors adds their contribution.

I recommend reading this before reading any of the others. It gives a good understanding of the staff, selection and requirements for staff and visitors.

Nicely Done!

The Latest From Becky McGraw: Safe Mode – Deep Six Security Book 4

Safe Mode
Deep Six Security Book 4
Becky McGraw

Winter Blog Blurb

When you fall asleep in safe mode, they may bury you…

Dr. Grace Wentworth is at the end of her rope with her wild sister who is pursuing the pipe dream of becoming an actress and pawning her daughter off on Grace to do so. When her sister doesn’t come back from her latest audition, and Grace finds out she’s gone to a BDSM resort in Vegas, she has no choice but to go to Sin City to find her and drag her home.

Dexter Buchanan is just looking for a little well-deserved time off from Deep Six Security to wallow in geek talk with fellow techies at the biggest military electronics show in the world in Vegas. What he gets is far from relaxing, however, when he sees his former college friend-with-benefits at the airport being hustled away in a limo to the Silver Chains Resort. After a little research, he finds out the resort is a kink club and thinks his very vanilla former lover and family friend must’ve lost her mind or she might be in trouble.

Could his decision not mind his own business unravel secrets of his own? Would his interference result in him losing his job at Deep Six, and maybe his life to boot? Or would it be his chance to reconnect with his hardcore military family who thought he was a failure, if he didn’t drag them down with his sinking ship?

Winter Blog Review

One of the things I love the most about this series is the camaraderie. They joke around to ease the mood when things get tough. Most importantly they are family to each other, not by blood but by choice.

We get a close look at Dex in this one and everything we thought we knew goes right out the window.

Grace is looking for her sister, but where that leads her is far more dangerous than she realized. This is a favorite scene after Dex gets her out of the clutches of a not so worthy DOM, with him arrested and in the hospital with an allergic reaction.

How in the hell was he going to talk his way out of this one?

Nobody at Deep Six knew his real name wasn’t Dex Buchanan… including Logan.

All he could hope for was that Hawk didn’t believe her, thought maybe she was a kooky hooker he’d picked up or something. That’s exactly what he planned on telling him. Without some quick thinking, and believable explanations, his whole life could implode.

Because he just couldn’t mind his own business.

“Who’s Logan?” Grace asked turning back toward him.

“My boss, why?” Dex asked, his teeth clenching.

“Hawk is calling him to get bail money before he heads over here. You’re fortunate to have such good friends,” Grace replied.

“He’s going to need every one of them too,” the officer grumbled, as he pinned Dex with a glare. “I’ll get the nurse to help you get dressed so we can take you downtown.”

The door closed, and Dex sat up on the bed. Downtown. To be fingerprinted and booked into the Clark County jail. Anxiety tightened his chest and he swallowed several times before ridding himself of the knot of fear constricting his throat.

For six damned years he’d kept a low profile, built his new life, and in one night it all went to hell. His real name would now be connected to his alias, so if Sheridan was looking for him, he’d know exactly where to find him. Logan would know his former identity too, and if Dex didn’t do a lot of creative explaining, he might fire him for lying on his resume.
“I hope you know what you just did, Grace. What it cost me to help you last night, and the price I’m going to pay now for it.” Sickness boiled in his gut, and Dex wished like hell he could put a hand over the burning hole there.

It looked like the only two lies he’d ever told in his life were converging and the epicenter for the fallout would be Las Vegas.
McGraw, Becky. Safe Mode: Deep Six Security Series Book 4 (Kindle Locations 955-972). Kindle Edition.

From here it gets more intriguing as the team takes on the task of finding Grace’s sister.

Dex reunites with his family and their are surprises at almost every turn.

There are parts of this that were difficult to read because of the situation and the detailed descriptions of what is going on. Definitely not a read for the faint of heart.

Extremely well written and the relationship that emerges between Grace and Dex is feisty, sweet and sexy as hell.

My Review of Lest Old Marines Be Forgot – Always a Marine Book 21 By Heather Long

Lest Old Marines Be Forgot
Always a Marine Book 21
Heather Long

Winter Blog Blurb

She never stopped grieving…

It’s New Year’s Eve, and thirty years since Brenda Connors buried the only man she ever loved. Every year on the anniversary of his death, she rings in the New Year, alone and grieving. But this year…this year she wants to ring it in much differently, takes the advice of her best friend, and signs up for a 1Night Stand. Maybe it’s ridiculous, just a year shy of her fiftieth birthday, for her to try and seek happiness she’s long since given up on.

He doesn’t know what the future holds…

Married to his career and facing forced retirement, Lt. Col. Tom Baxter doesn’t see much of a future for himself in civilian life. A poker game with the son of an old friend earns him some unwanted advice, but he can’t get it out of his head. Maybe signing up for a 1Night Stand date will help him discover what life on the outside might have to offer. The last thing he expects is an elegant soul with a streak of mischief….

Ringing in a new beginning…

Can Tom and Brenda make every second of their countdown to midnight count, lest old Marines be forgot?

Winter Blog Review

With this still the first week of the New Year, I just had to share this book with you.

What is most appealing about this book is that Tom and Brenda aren’t young, they are mature adults who never married. Tom because he has been married to his career in the Marines and Brenda because she lost the love of her life to the war.

If you are familiar with the 1 Night Stand Series then you know Madame Eve is notorious for bringing the right two people together for their happily ever after.

Tom is being forced to retire and he has signed up for Madame Eve’s services. He is nervous about it but he is looking to spend New Year’s Eve with someone for a change.

Brenda is hoping to avoid her usual gloomy New Year’s by spending it with a date. A 1 Night Stand her best friend heartily approves of. She needs to move on, it’s been thirty years.

This is a favorite scene at the beginning of their meal.

“There you go being bossy again,” she said, but he heard only affection, not annoyance in the words. “While I may not have been on that many dates in the last thirty years, even I know that talking about my fiancé is not flirtatious behavior.”

Chuckling, he picked up another piece of shrimp cocktail and fed it to her. The ease with which she accepted the offering pleased the hell out of him. “No, I simply respect loyalty, honor, and devotion. No flirting required.”

She chewed the shrimp thoughtfully and washed it down with wine, rather than water that time. “I’ve always had a tough time on New Year’s. Amelia, Steve’s sister, is still my best friend. She’s done everything over the years to encourage me to get back out there. Fixed me up, arranged dinners, but no one ever really interested me. Then we get to this time of year and I can’t help but remember it. And on New Year’s, at midnight….”

The catch in her throat had him easing his chair over to sit next to her, shoulder to shoulder. “At midnight, what happens?”

“I panic. My heart races, I can’t catch my breath, and in the last couple of years, I’ve passed out. Amelia found me the first time. She called 911, thinking I’d had a heart attack.” Her mouth twisted into a rueful grin. “I promised her it wouldn’t happen again— and then it did. Last year was the last straw— according to Amelia. She was right. It was a wake up call and the doctor told me that on the anniversary of his death, I’d get this rush of adrenaline. My pressure rose, my chest hurt, I had trouble breathing, and then I passed out. I always spent New Year’s alone, and until I went to a therapist about it, I hadn’t realized just how much I isolated myself. Every year made it worse. So, I got some help… and oh, Lord, this is embarrassing….”

Yet the strength with which she spoke, the gradual easing of the stiffness in her shoulders and the tears said much more. “I think it’s beautiful. You still care enough about him to mourn him thirty years later. No man could ask for more, but I don’t think he’d like it.” He didn’t have to know Steve, but based on what she’d said, Tom couldn’t imagine the young Marine would never have wanted this for a woman he cared about. “You had an issue, you faced it. Tonight is about being somewhere else and not in that moment.”

“Guilty.” She blew out a breath. “Amelia wants me to let it all go.”

“What do you want?” Because her would-have-been sister-in-law wasn’t the woman who interested him.

“I don’t know, not to be crying on the shoulder of a man I just met. To be flirty and playful and have that good time I signed up for— maybe laugh and dance and… and not pass out when my heart hurts.” She bit her lower lip then grinned ruefully. “Maybe get to know you a little better.”

“What do you want to know?”

Mission accepted.

Long, Heather. Lest Old Marines Be Forgot (Always a Marine series Book 21) (Kindle Locations 455-478). Decadent Publishing Company, LLC. Kindle Edition.

A short inspiring story with enough heat and compassion to melt your kindle.

Also a reminder that no matter how old you are, there is still someone out there if you bother to take a look.

Winter Blog Review

I really love this series. So many talented authors setting their stories in one place, the Black Hills.  We frequently see folks from the previous stories pop in which makes it interesting. In this one we see Ryker the pack enforcer briefly. You know, just to be sure things are on the up and up with the ‘interloper’.

In this book we meet Tala, a long time resident and Yas a returning wolf looking for his roots.

Tala is trying to start a Bed and Breakfast to accommodate returning pack members until they can fix up or rebuilt their homes. However she has been plagued with vandals causing more damage than she can keep up with.

Yas needs a place to stay and needs to work for his room and board. Boy did he come to the right place. There is a lot of neglect and damage done to this large house.

A favorite scene is when Tala brings him some cold lemonade while he is working on the deck outside.

“How’s it going out here?” She surveyed the work he’d done so far.

“Faster than I thought. When you work on a project, it can be easy or slow. With a newer covering, it might take longer to remove. This paint’s so old, it’s coming off like dust.”

The speckles on his arms and face reinforced his statement, and she stifled a laugh. “I can see that. Have you been frolicking through all that ‘dust’?”

“What?” He checked out his spotted arms. “Just what I need, to be even whiter than I already am. It should all come off in the shower.”

“Mmmm-hmmm, and you better get cleaned up first thing. I don’t want all that getting in the house.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He saluted and took a long draw of lemonade. His mouth puckered up, and his eyes crossed. “Wow. Sour.”

“I hope you’re exaggerating. It’s better than being too sweet.”

“Here, taste.” He stood, took another sip, and then pulled her tight to his body. The heat radiated off his skin, and he pressed his cool lips against hers.

Shocked by his actions, Tala didn’t react. She took in all the elements. The feel of his body. The enticing scent coming off his skin, appropriately like smoldering wood. Soon, she grew more aware of the weight of Yas’s arm on her waist and the insistence of his kiss.

She parted her mouth, tentatively touching her tongue along his bottom lip. He tasted tangy and refreshing. He deepened the kiss, drawing out her tongue, until they breathed the same air.

Everything changed with this one liplock. It was as if she’d never been kissed before, and never would feel this same way again. He, they, this moment became the center of her being. Everything else fell away.

The air between them made her realize the kiss had ended.

“So?” he asked, prodding her with more than his words.

She opened her eyes, recognizing a bit of mirth in his.

“How does it taste?”

She smacked her lips together. “Exactly how I like it.”
Bacio, Louisa. Claiming the She-Wolf: Black Hills Wolves Book 23 (Kindle Locations 441-459). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Right from the start there is attraction and I love the way they interact. The sexy thoughts and trying to keep cool had me giggling.

I only wish there had been a bit more of the reason Yas traveled to Los Lobos. He didn’t really get much chance to ask anyone anything.
