Winter Blog Review

Kendall, has more than one problem being a single Mom, first she’s still in love with her ex-husband. Second instead of clearing ghosts, she is saging houses whether they need it or not just for the money it brings in. That is all about to change as she embraces who she is and her father sets her up with a broker.

Levi doesn’t believe in ghosts, he thinks his wife is a bit crazy even though she’s a good mother. He’s about to learn some things the hard way.

Malcolm is a broker, he is the key to Kendall making enough money she doesn’t have to worry about bills and other incidentals. He also has secrets, secrets that he can’t share with her, at least not yet.

This is a favorite scene right after Kendall’s first job. A job that should have been simple.

Spots danced before my eyes as I panted next to my car. I was exhausted, beyond done, and happier than I’d been in years. The euphoria wouldn’t last forever; it was a natural reaction to clearing the wrongness from the planet. The harder the job, the longer the high. It would be days before I came down, and I couldn’t say I minded much. With my shaking hand, I texted Malcolm. Done.

I raised myself up and opened the door to my car. Should I drive? There were laws about drinking and driving. What was the rule for operating a motor vehicle when buzzing from too much paranormal exertion?

Took you a while. Did you run into any trouble?

I rolled my eyes at his response. You see how fast you can manage a Cascade.

I giggled. The big point was that I had managed it. A whole Cascade by myself in my first job back. I couldn’t believe it.

Wait. What? Are you okay? The phone rang, and I answered. “Are you serious? A Cascade?”

Malcolm apparently knew what that term meant. I shouldn’t be surprised. My father was famous in our world. If he coined a term, it would have taken off. “I’m serious.” I laughed again. Euphoria proved hard to resist even if I had wanted to. “I lost count of how many. But they’re all gone now. Whoever owns this house can come home to a clean living space.”

“You are high as a kite.” He groaned loudly. “Don’t drive. I’ll be there very soon. I’m five minutes out. When you texted, I was on my way to see you because it was taking so long.
Royce, Rebecca. Haunted Redemption (The Cascade Book 1) (pp. 57-58). Kindle Edition.

Of course there is always someone who makes you question your decisions. For this one there is Chase who keeps warning her about Malcolm. Then there’s her attraction to Malcolm, finding out her best friend has kept things from her and the continued attentions of her ex. Then circumstances combine to trigger memories. Memories she’s not sure she wants, but knows she must face.

A hold your breath, somewhat sexy and definitely intriguing book. A major twist I didn’t see coming and plenty of surprises for everyone.

Winter Blog Blurb

Fugitive Tristan Hawthorne loved his captain and has spent five years searching for proof to convince Shadow Fleet he’s innocent his lover’s murder. Captured and bound for transport to a penal colony, he comes face to face with an old enemy and revelations about the murder. Tristan vows to expose the truth to the Fleet. He escapes, but crash lands on an unidentified and uncharted planet where he encounters an alien who stirs passions he thought long buried.

Lucan receives special permission from the council to fly to Oria to release his mother’s spirit on the sacred world. With no family remaining, he’s broken and unsure. However, he didn’t count on meeting a human while he’s alone and mourning. He’s drawn to Tristan’s swagger and strength. He longs to be near him, even though his mother warned him that humans are a violent race, bent on destroying themselves and anyone around them.

With one working ship and a failing planetary cloaking device, it’s a short time until humans discover Oria and Tristan is recaptured. Under the starry, moonlit sky of the holiday Jainfest, the men learn to overcome their feelings of fear and distrust, and winds up finding out they aren’t so different after all.

Winter Blog Review

Luc has received special permission to travel to Oria during the time of Jainfest. His purpose, to release his mother’s soul on this sacred planet then he would celebrate Jainfest there. A fitting place since the holiday was one of celebrating lost loved ones and communicating with them if they chose to appear.

It is after he finds the perfect spot to release his mother’s soul that he sees the human. The human is a beautiful man, and Luc’s reaction to him is one he didn’t expect. Especially with his heart so heavy with loss.

Tristan was fleeing with the evidence he needs to clear his name when he crash landed on a planet he never knew existed. He’d traveled this way thousands of times and had never seen it. It was uncharted, how could it be and then not be. The answers could possibly come from the alien he saw hiding behind a tree.

Trust doesn’t come easily for either of them, Tristan because he is human after all, and Luc because of the things he was taught to believe, all humans are violent and dangerous. However, neither of them can deny the attraction between them.

Luc helps Tristan send his evidence to Shadow Fleet command, and explains why they can’t leave the planet for three days.

In appreciation, Tristan offers his help and companionship with the rituals. Knowing that he is safe from being re-captured, at least for now, he finds he can relax.

A favorite scene is the beginning of Jainfest.

“Now, we wait,” Luc said. “If the spirits are going to appear, they will.”

“I’m patient.” Deep down Tristan wondered how long they’d wait. Not that he wanted to leave the spot. It was calming in a way. Besides, the night was beautiful and lying next to Luc helped relax him in ways he never could’ve imagined another man could.

A whisper on the breeze made him sit straight up, his heart hammered in his chest. “Austin?”

The captain’s name was a whisper but Tristan guessed by the way Luc tensed slightly beside him, he’d heard him, too. Luc reached for his hand, clasping it in his own.

A blurred figured appeared in front of them, becoming clearer by the second. It wavered as it materialized, but there was no mistaking who it was. A lump formed in Tristan’s throat. “Austin,” he repeated.

This is impossible. Tristan didn’t believe in ghosts. Or at least he didn’t before Austin appeared in front of him. He looked exactly like he did the day he died. Luc squeezed his hand in encouragement.

A warm tear rolled down Tristan’s cheek and he pulled free of Luc and stepped toward Austin. “I’m sorry.” His voice cracked and he didn’t care if it made him sound weak. If only he’d been there…

“There is nothing for you to be sorry about. If you were there with me, Gregor would have killed us both.” Austin moved closer, but not too close. He darted his gaze to Luc and gave a short nod. “You see, you have purpose. Things happen for a reason, remember?”

Austin had always told him the same thing. He lived his life with the belief that no matter what happened, it was meant to. Like Austin was meant to leave this life, and Tristan was to continue with his.

Without him.

Tristan also cursed the theory, screaming it wasn’t fair. That he was being punished for whatever he’d done in a past life. Glancing to Luc, who sat quietly watching, Tristan understood what Austin believed. What Tristan’s purpose was.

The dark, painful path Tristan had been on for the last five years led him to Oria. To Luc.

Winter Blog Blurb

Most Lone Wolves have a story–a pack they left behind, a love they lost, or worse, one they buried. Some leave their packs to roam because they crave freedom, and independence. Some leave because in their hearts, they can’t bear to stay. Some leave because they see no way to go back…

Enforcer John Nelson has pulled double duty for months, keeping an eye on the Lone Wolves who are his charges as well as those that once answered to Margo Montgomery. More of a loner than most, he doesn’t mind going months at a time without seeing another Enforcer as was his typical pattern or at least it was until the formation of the Three Rivers pack disrupted lives everywhere. Now he must divide his time between watching the upstarts and checking on his charges while working with the other Enforcers to anticipate the next move by the Russian Volchitsa. No Enforcer expected to find themselves among the hunted, but when they target the one wolf he can tolerate, John defies orders to go after her.

Hadley Sexton is a bit of a wild card even for an Enforcer, and she loves being unpredictable. More of a mother hen than she likes to admit, she keeps an eye on her Lone Wolves, and treats them more like family than charges…but when three Enforcers are brutally murdered over the course of three weeks, Hadley discovers someone has been shadowing her trail and they aren’t alone. It is a dangerous game with a brutal enemy, one willing to kill the wolves she’s sworn to protect to draw her out.

For Hadley, John will break every rule, but will he be in time?

While trying to figure out what the hell the Russian Volchitsa is really up to, Julian has ordered his enforcers to gather up their lone wolfs. This is for their own protection, Hadley took that opportunity to purchase an old resort, where all her charges are now ensconced. While some are enjoying the camaraderie, others not so much.

Now with an Enforcer tortured and killed, and another missing and presumed dead, Julian is weighing the possibility of having all lone wolves within pack territories until the threat is eliminated.

Having lost contact with Hadley, John wants to go after her, unfortunately Julian wants him in Willow Bend. Mason has other ideas and sends John on his way with supplies and his request to find her safe. Hadley’s one of his.

This is a favorite scene when John catches up with her.

The Russian witch tracked her in moments, then lunged toward her with a fierce snarl on her face. Hadley met her, and they struck tooth and claw. The woman jerked her hair and tried to flip her, but Hadley was an Enforcer. She’d trained for moments like these. She raked the wolf’s face and drew blood.

A shadow fell over them, and the wolf was hauled off of her. The audible sound of the wolf’s back cracking, followed by the snap of her neck, infuriated Hadley. Just like that, her potential prisoner was dead and thrown to impact against the side of a tree.

Hadley snarled and came to her knees, then met John’s intemperate gaze.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

He frowned, then blinked. “I was saving your life.”

Heather Long. Thunder Wolf (Kindle Locations 1768-1774).

Boy was Hadley pissed. And that was just the beginning.

There is a lot going on in this one. The Volchitsa is getting more aggressive and there is no pattern. It seems they are always one step ahead.

John and Hadley have their own ideas and there are lots of sexy surprises for both them and us in the midst of all this.

Winter Blog excerpt

“What do you want?” A murmured question that feels like a demand.

The single word I need is lodged in my throat. It’s thick and heavy, filled with potential and promise.

“You,” I finally say.

“Why?” Such a complicated question. I search his face, looking for an answer, a lie, something simple to fill the space left by his question.

I lift my hand, afraid he’ll see it tremble. It takes every ounce of willpower I’ve got to slide my fingers over his forearm. I’m surprised by the raw power beneath my touch. I expected the tattoos to be physical manifestations of the violence on his flesh. His skin is hot and smooth. My hand looks pale and small against it.

“You seem…” I lift my eyes to his, never removing my hand. “You seem like a straightforward kind of guy.”

A man with rough hands and dark ink carved into his skin. A man so unlike the men I’m used to, it’s not even funny. I lift my hand to his cheek, just above the edge of his beard. I’ve never touched a man with facial hair before. He is still beneath my touch.

A moment before I’m about to press my palm to his cheek, he grips my wrist. Not hard enough to hurt, but he definitely gets my attention.

“Not here.” I swallow. My mouth is suddenly dry. “Where?”

He jerks his chin toward the dark hallway behind us. I follow him silently, wishing he was already touching me, making me feel, letting me pretend I matter, even if it’s only for a few minutes.

He leads me through the maze of small tables and patrons at various stages of intoxication. Away from the noise and the smell of fries and smoke and cologne and all the good things that bars have. We step out of the noise and into shadows and silence. He doesn’t pounce, doesn’t push me against the wall and run those rough hands over my skin.

Instead, he leans against it—a casual, arrogant male.

Waiting. I know for what. For me to make the first move.

For me to step into the space between us. For me to touch him first. I want to. But I am paralyzed. Rooted to the damp concrete beneath my feet. The cool night air might as well be chains, holding me, restraining any thought or movement.

He doesn’t move. His arms are folded over his broad, heavy chest, his T-shirt straining against his body. The silence hangs on, stretching and thick and tight.

“Scared?” he finally whispers. A dare. A terrible, wicked promise in that single word.

“Should I be?” My throat is tight and dry.

His answer is nothing I expect.

And everything I want.

My Review of West – Rope N Ride Book 4 by Em Petrova

Rope N Ride Book 4
Em Petrova

Winter Blog Blurb

It’s hard to resist a bad boy who’s a good man.

But that’s exactly what Malou Bullers, M.D. is trying to do. While working as the rodeo doc, she turns a blind eye to the bulging biceps and Wrangler butts that pass by. Except for one cowboy—and he’s worst of all. West Calhoun is a womanizer, plain and simple. The tie-down roper and reality TV star is never seen twice with the same woman.

When he’s not busy on his family’s growing ranch or trying to keep the TV cameras on his good side, West has his eyes on that big win. But he’s distracted by the eccentric new-age rodeo doctor. After a one-night stand with Malou, he’s hooked, but convincing her that he isn’t with a dozen other women might be more challenging than taking on a herd of angry bulls.

Meanwhile, a new TV producer is luring West with the promise of a spinoff show and big money that will help his family. But with Malou avoiding him, he’s got troubles that won’t be helped once her secret is revealed, sending West into a tailspin. Can she walk away from the best man she’s ever known?

Winter Blog BuyLinks

Winter Blog Review

West has wanted to be with Malou ever since he met her. Trying to have a relationship when the TV crews are following you around and people are expecting the worst from you just isn’t easy.

Ever since their one night together Malou can’t get West out of her mind. She doesn’t want to start a relationship with him because she is a doctor. The publicity would kill her career and Wade’s habits would more than likely destroy her heart.

A bar fight that was in effect a case of misunderstanding, leads to an apology date. One that West carefully orchestrates to avoid the camera crews. Unfortunately that doesn’t end well.

This is a favorite scene.

Watching Malou taste her very first bite of shepherd’s pie followed by a decadent coconut cream dessert was one of West’s high points of the day. Between the fans, the fights and the cameras, it was damn hard to stay centered on what was real in his life.

Lately, gathering in the Calhoun circle hadn’t delivered the peace it normally did, not with the production manager eyeing him. West wasn’t sure he wanted that spinoff show, but he wasn’t being left alone long enough to consider it.

But being with Malou—that was one-hundred-percent real. There was nothing affected about the way she brushed her dark ropes of hair over her shoulder or her rapt expression when she chewed and swallowed the rich, beefy bite on her fork.

She argued about letting him pay for her meal, but he wasn’t taking no for an answer. He gave the waitress a generous tip—mostly because she hadn’t asked for his autograph in the middle of his date. When he led Malou to the exit, placing a protective hand on her lower back, it felt like the most natural thing in the world.

As soon as the night air hit his face, so did a flashlight beam. “West Calhoun?” The rough, barking voice made him stop in his tracks. Malou gasped.

“What is this?” He looked between the two cops before him. Malou skittered to the side, and his heart squeezed in anguish.

“We need to take you down to the precinct for questioning about assault allegations,” the cop said.

“Ffffuck.” He was aware of a couple cameras pointed in his direction, and one of them was definitely from the show. Either way, he’d be all over the news.

His momma would hear of this. Buck would give him that disapproving glare.

I’ll get my spinoff.

He shot a glance at Malou, who was shaking her head and backing away.

“Miss, do you have a ride home?” one officer asked her, and she nodded.

“You need to come with us, Mr. Calhoun.” The cop gripped his shoulder, and he remembered Malou’s truck keys in his pocket.

“Just a second, I need to give her the keys.” He made to reach into his pocket, and the cops were instantly on guard. “I’m not carrying, officers. I just want to give her the truck keys.”

They patted him down and when they nodded, he slowly reached into his pocket to retrieve the keys. Malou came forward reluctantly to accept them. West stared down at her bowed head. She wouldn’t meet his gaze.

He’d fucked this up bad.

“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. She nodded but didn’t look up.

Then he was bundled away by the officers and put into the back of a police cruiser. He twisted his face away from the window, not wanting to add to the humiliation he faced by giving the cameras a great photo op.

But he did glance back in time to see Malou climbing into her truck, head still bowed. Fuck, he’d never get another chance with her. The only woman who hadn’t put on an act with him, who’d given him total honesty in and out of the bedroom, was lost to him.
Petrova, Em. West (Rope ‘n Ride Series Book 4) (Kindle Locations 707-736). Kindle Edition.

This relationship has much to overcome. The scandals, the publicity, the cameras and so much more. A fun and super sexy read that had me laughing as they hide from the cameras and the fans.
