A temporary fling… sizzling summer nights… two hearts on the line…
Former child star Sabrina Maguire is poised to make a major comeback, but an image destroying scandal while she’s vacationing in Italy threatens the film’s successful release. Her brother asks his best friend, Rafe Cavelli, to hide her for three weeks until a counter PR campaign reverses the damage and guarantees a box office winner.
When Rafe promises to protect Sabrina from the media, he’s positive that supervising her won’t be a problem. He’s wrong. Sparks fly between them. He’s determined to fight their intense attraction, but there’s nothing to stop them from indulging in their desires. Not when they’re in his secluded Tuscan Villa where anything is possible for three sexy weeks…
But indulging in their temptation leads to more than passion. Now their hearts are on the line… can they have it all, or will their differences tear them apart?
Sabrina’s career is about to take a plunge. Arrested in Italy while trying to help her former co-star, her family now has to do damage control. The story, she’s in rehab. The reality, she’s at her brother’s friend Rafe’s Villa in the countryside.
Rafe had no issue in helping his friend out. His problem now is to keep his hands off her. He wasn’t quite expecting the beauty to be so enchanting. Their attraction is off the charts, but he doesn’t do relationships. Especially not this one, he stays out of the public eye for many reasons.
Sabrina forms an attachment to his cook Aida’s daughter Gia as she prepares for a school production. Rafe enjoys watching them together. Then an unfortunate injury causes Aida to have to be away from her job. Leaving the cooking and clean-up to the two of them.
This is a favorite scene.
She was unlike any woman he’d ever known. Sabrina intrigued him, but he’d exercised extreme caution around her because the ramifications of acting on his fascination with the woman behind the Hollywood persona could be irreparable.
Still, he wanted to in a bad way, which freaked him out more than he cared to admit. Not to himself. Not to anyone. Because he didn’t have obsessions over women. Ever.
She lifted a slice of meat from the platter and nibbled. “Mmmmm… just the ticket.”
Her tongue darted out to lick her lower lip and the explosive kiss they’d shared snapped into sharp focus. Hell, it haunted his dreams, making him wake up in a tangle of twisted sheets every morning since it happened.
Yes. He definitely wanted to kiss her again. A long, hard, deep kiss until neither of them could breathe, speak, or think. “Glad you approve,” Rafe said, locking his eyes onto hers.
“You know, we could just make a picnic out of this— add bread and olive oil dip,” she said. “Hang outside and chat.”
“Good idea,” he said. “I’ll get the bread.”
He moved to go around Sabrina and accidentally brushed against her. Her breath hitched and he struggled to control his instant reaction while withdrawing a serrated knife from the drawer opposite the sink. Dio. How in the hell could he be alone with her when the merest touch between them made his body go wild?
He grabbed a loaf of hearty homemade Tuscan bread and a wooden board, sliced and hit his finger first. Pain screamed through his nerves. “Shit.” He dropped the knife and sucked his finger into his mouth.
Sabrina was beside him in an instant with a wad of paper towels in her hands. “Let me help,” she said.
His eyes watering, Rafe gave her his hand. She quickly rolled the towels around his wound, squeezing the area to stem the flow of blood. “We’ll have to clean it and check to see how deep it is,” Sabrina said. “Good thing we didn’t put the first aid kit back.”
He didn’t argue while she led him to the sink and ran the water, checking it with her free hand. “Perfect.” She undid the paper towel, didn’t flinch at the site of the jagged cut, and held his hand under the rushing warm water.
The blood flowing into the sink and down the drain dizzied him.
“Whoa, there,” Sabrina said. “You look like you’re going to pass out. Don’t watch what I’m doing… look at my face, not your hand. I don’t need to take another member of this household to the village doctor.”
He did exactly as she ordered. She worked with confidence and skill as she dried his hand and rewrapped it with a soft cloth. “Keep the pressure on while I get the disinfectant and gauze,” she said calmly. “I don’t think you need stitches, but it’s a nasty cut.”
“I can take care of it now,” he said.
“Rafe, you’re always taking care of everyone else… me, Aida, my brother,” Sabrina said, then opened the first aid kit and withdrew the disinfectant. “Now it’s your turn to let someone else look after you even if you’re too bullheaded to accept it.”
Then without waiting for him to argue, she gently exposed his wound and held his hand over the sink. “This will sting a little.” She poured the liquid over his cut.
“More like a lot,” he groaned. She blew on his skin and the stabbing sensation evaporated only to be replaced by the heat burning through his body.
“Almost done.” Sabrina expertly wrapped his finger, taped it, and kissed it. “This should make it better.”
Something in her voice, the warmth along with the hint of flirtation dancing in her sapphire eyes, crushed through the last of his self-control. “Only one thing can make me better,” he said. And he needed to have it now.
She blinked, but didn’t let his injured hand go. “What?”
Rafe closed the scant distance between them, skimmed his fingers through her hair, then lowered his mouth to hers.
