The hat. The gun. And the will to protect.

Showing up to investigate a double homicide, Sheriff Phoenix Cade almost comes out of his boots when he sees the blonde–the only witness to the crime–covered in blood. He’d danced with her a few nights before and had every intention of getting her number until she threw up all over his shoes. Hell, his shoes would wash…

Ria Portman has spent the better part of six years convincing her family and friends that she could take care of herself. The accident took her sight, but it didn’t take her independence. There were a lot of things she’d learned over the years, especially regarding men. They said they could handle her disability, but truth was, they lied. When her assistant and client are murdered in her studio she will have to rely on one man—the one man who makes her want to trust again.

Phoenix is over his ex, but since he caught her cheating he’s compared relationships to playing with fire. It’s only a matter of time before a man gets burnt. Yet, Ria is different. She’s beautiful, smart, challenging, and doesn’t need him…even when she does. He should keep his head on straight because the killers want her dead and it’s his job to keep her safe. However, he’s realizing, a man in love becomes a giant. He’ll protect Ria with a force unlike any that has ever been seen before.

Winter Blog Review

One of my favorite things about this book is the heroine. She’s smart, tough, feisty and blind. Ria lost a fiancé because of her blindness, but not her ambition. She left the big city with her sister, to start over in her old family home.

When she meet Phoenix Cade, she doesn’t know he’s the sheriff every woman wants. All she knows is she attracted to him and she hopes never to run into him again after she embarrasses herself.

None of that seems important after two goons kill her assistant and a client at her home office. Saving herself by hiding on the shelf under her massage table, it was pure luck she wasn’t discovered and killed.

One of the things the bad guys don’t take into consideration is the acute senses of a blind person. Everything is more enhanced to make up for the lack of sight, so while she is unable to visually identify them she can give some definite insight into them.

This is a favorite scene.

“Don’t discount yourself as a witness. What you heard, smelled, the killers’ voices are all a part of the puzzle. You’re a bigger help than you can ever imagine, but I’d never put you in more danger to solve this case.”

“I’m glad to help, but…” her shoulders slumped.

“Go on,” he urged.

“Who can I trust?”

“You can trust me. I’ll keep you safe. I promise.”

Goosebumps popped up on her arms. Over the years she’d gotten skilled at listening to a person’s voice to understand their emotions and he seemed sincere. From what Kora had told her he had a reputation of being a hard-ass that got the job done. More than ever she needed someone like him on her side.

“Now, how about let’s get off the street. Okay?”

“I’ll go with you to the cabin, but I want to make it clear that I don’t want to take you away from your investigation. I don’t need a sitter.”

“Think of me less as a sitter and more of a bodyguard.” His light chuckle made her smile.
Rhonda Lee Carver. Protected By The Lawman: Lawmen of Wyoming, Book 1 (Kindle Locations 522-553).

The heat ratchets up a notch as Phoenix takes her into protective custody. His family cabin becomes the scene of their budding romance.

As the layers are pealed off this mystery, betrayal and heartbreak ensue.

Very well written with edge of your seat suspense, extremely hot make-out scenes and so much more.

Winter Blog Review

I had one of those, how did I not read this moments, when I was gifted this book. It seems I have read all of this series except for the latest release and of all things this one. The FIRST book. So I have now corrected that faux pas.

When Sophia’s mother dies, she is left with just about nothing. The perfect job falls in her lap, a job that also provides her with a place to live. Then her brother runs away from his foster home.

Mason saves her from a horrific assault while she is looking for her brother. Whether she likes it or not, she now has his protection and help.

Mason can’t believe her determination and resistance to taking care of herself in spite of her injuries.

This is a favorite scene when Mason introduces her to Drake.

When they got to the diner it was the middle of lunch hour, but there was a table with a reserved sign on it. Apparently it was not the norm by the grumbling of the patrons in line waiting to be seated. Sophia was taking orders so she missed them when they came in, but when she turned around she smiled.

“She’s beautiful, Mase.” She was. She also shouldn’t be working. Even from there, Mason could see the lines of pain around her mouth. He looked around for Margie and caught her eye. Margie bustled over to him.

“I’m so glad you’re here. She came down about an hour ago and put the reserved sign on the table for y’all. I couldn’t stop her from working until you showed up. Even though Brenda and I have things mostly covered. Now that you’re here, please sit down for lunch.” Margie patted Mason’s arm.

“Hello,” Sophia stopped in front of him. She smiled at Drake.

“Sophia, this is my friend Drake Avery who I was telling you about. Drake, this is Sophia Anderson.

Sophia, come sit down and eat with us.” Mason smiled at Sophia, taking in the bruising on her face.

“After you explain why you’re working. Are you out of your mind, girl?” Drake demanded. Oh, this was not going to go well. Of course it was exactly what he was thinking, but he would have said it with a little more tact.

“This way to your seat.” She turned and ushered them to the table with the reserved sign. Mason held out a chair for her but she ignored it and walked towards the back of the diner. Yep, tact would have worked better.

“What the hell?” Drake said loudly.

“Shut it,” Mason hissed. He followed Sophia towards the kitchen. He thought she might be going back there to work, and then saw a small door to the right that had to be to the upstairs apartment. She fumbled with the doorknob with her left hand and he took the opportunity to put a gentle hand on her uninjured shoulder.

“Honey, can we talk?” He tried to catch her eye, but she kept looking at the doorknob.

“I’m going to wait upstairs until you’re done with lunch.” Dammit, she probably hadn’t even eaten lunch. He was going to kill Drake.

“I missed you, and I sure would like it if you’d have lunch with me.”  She paused and turned to him, her green eyes unsure.

“You did? Me?”

“Yes, you. I would really like to spend more time with you. If you don’t eat with me, I’m stuck eating with just Drake. Would you really force me to endure that?” Her eyes twinkled at his teasing.

“He can be a little overbearing, can’t he?” Seeing her smile hit him in the gut. He’d love it if she’d do it more often.

“He’s a SEAL—it’s in the job description.”

“Holy crap. Are you one too?” Her eyes widened.

“If I answer this wrong, will you still have lunch with me?”  She hesitated.  Damn, most women were all over him when he said SEAL.  “Sophia?”

“I don’t want to take up too much of your time.  You must be busy and I can look for Billy by myself.”  Yep, being a SEAL was counting against him.

“Let’s go have lunch and put Drake in his place. Then we can talk about my schedule and how best to find Billy, okay?” He waited and she finally nodded. Okay, he’d managed to get past another hurdle and he breathed a sigh of relief.
O’Leary, Caitlyn. Her Vigilant SEAL (Midnight Delta Book 1) (pp. 55-58). Caitlyn O’Leary. Kindle Edition.

Sophie has more issues than just her brother running away. Her self-esteem is almost non-existent, her confidence is only in herself and she trusts only a few people.

Mason has his work cut out for him and believe me it’s rough going. He has to get her to trust not only him but his team as well.

Persistence is the name of the game. There is plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages as this relationship develops.

I now have to re-read the rest of this series. I just know I’ve missed some important stuff.

Winter Blog Review

When I reviewed the latest in this series I said I was going back to read the rest to meet other characters in more depth. I meant it and I am so very glad I did.

The Baytown Boys are back in town, each doing something to benefit the town. In this first book we center on Mitch although we do meet all the others.

Mitch has his hands full with his new position of Chief of Police. There’s much he wants to upgrade, things he wants to change, not too quickly but a process.

The best part of coming home for him is Tori. He fell hard for her when he was only eight and those feelings have only grown over the years. He never really expected to find her in town though.

Tori only spent summers in Baytown, but she loved being there with her grandmother. With the passing of her grandmother she is now owner of the Sea Glass Inn. Being here has all the memories of her and Mitch and those summers coming invading her mind.

One of my favorite scenes after Tori and Mitch go on their first date as adults.

Sipping the wine, they relaxed, letting the years drift away, finding once more that time was easy between them.

“So you never married?” she asked, curiosity overriding common sense.

“Nope. Never found the right woman to spend my life with. When I get married, it’ll be for life… like my parents.”

As soon as the words were out of his mouth and he saw the hurt flash across her face, he wanted to pull them back in while simultaneously kicking himself in the ass.

“Jesus, Tori. I’m sorry.”

The silence was no longer easy, but strained. Finally, he said, “Can you tell me about your marriage?” He paused, and then added, “Only if you want to.”

She grimaced but forged ahead. “There’s not much to tell. I married a man I met through work. I think we were actually more friends than a great love and I was too naïve to understand the difference.”

“So what happened? Did you just grow apart?”

Her gaze drifted over his shoulder, as she admitted, “No… like you, I planned on being married for life. But, well, he… um… well, he cheated and I found out.”

“No fuckin’ way!” Mitch cursed, hating the insecurity he heard resounding in her voice.

Sitting up straighter, she met his angry stare. “Yep. I found out and hired someone to follow him to make sure. When I had all the evidence I needed, I confronted him. Told him I was leaving and I wanted a divorce. He didn’t want one. Swore it was all a mistake and he’d never stray again.”

She suddenly turned sideways, facing Mitch on the glider, bringing her face close to his. Taking a deep breath, she said, “As hurt as I was, I wasn’t tempted one little bit to take him back. You want to know what I discovered? Grandma always said I deserved someone special and Mitch, right there, at that moment, I knew he wasn’t special!”

Mesmerized by the strength in her words, he pulled her in for a kiss. Unlike the one at the restaurant, this kiss went from soft to a hard, wet kiss almost instantly. Delving his tongue inside her warm mouth, he tasted the wine and essence of her… drinking her in.

She relaxed into his embrace as he moved her closer. Reaching up, she cupped his face, finally allowing her fingertips to move over his close-shaven beard. His lips were strong and supple, moving over her mouth while his tongue tangled with hers.

Just when she slipped into a dreamlike state of kissing bliss, he moved away slightly. Her lips tried to maintain contact, but she opened her eyes to find him staring deeply into hers.

“You are special, Tori. I knew that the minute I saw you when I was eight and you were only six years old. And all these years later… I still know that. And your grandma was right.”
Maryann Jordan. Coming Home: The Baytown Boys Series (Kindle Locations 1038-1061).

It’s a fun read as we get to know Mitch and Tori’s past and watch them once again become a couple.

Now there are a couple of folks I’m not fond of and that’s the Mayor and the City Manager, oh and the Mayor’s secretary too. Can’t wait to see how they develop in future books.

With a threat to Tori but no obvious motive, things escalate quickly.

Fast paced with plenty of suspects, lots of friends and Tori and Mitch burn up the pages just about every time they’re together.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

One of the things I like most about shifter books is seeing how each author interprets shifters and the rules of the world.

In this one we have a world where shifters are ‘out’ but those with other abilities are hunted and tested on. Regardless of whether they are human or shifter.

Keeley and Danielle have abilities and have mostly managed to stay off the Paranormal Bounty Hunter’s radar. That is until Simon caught up with them. He has abused and tortured them all in the name of learning how it all works. They run and he keeps finding them each time getting away is harder.

Kal is sheriff and the Alpha of the Raferty pack in Window Rock. He protects his pack and his town. So when Keeley and Danielle show up unannounced he is more than a little suspicious, and quite surprised when he feels the mate pull.

Quite a bit of violence in this one as well as those looking to prevent it. Caden brings a severely injured pup to Danielle and that’s when she reveals her healing abilities. She also learns they are shifters.

Kal and Keeley are mates but even though she can’t seem to stay away from him she has an overpowering need to protect her sister with no regard for herself.

Chilling revelations and so much more as we meet this. The relationships between Kal and Keeley and Caden and Danielle certainly have plenty of ups and downs. There are so many characters I fell in love with and I can’t wait to read more of them.

I laughed, cried and scratched my head a few times at the stubbornness. All in all a fast paced, sexy, suspenseful and down right spellbinding read!

A favorite scene is in the excerpt below, don’t forget to read it.

5 Contented Purrs for TL and Michelle!

“Where the fuck is the baby?” He kept his voice controlled, knowing the pup was safe and sound with Danielle—for now. Kal tried in vain to keep his voice down so their neighbors couldn’t overhear their conversation. As it stood, he still wasn’t sure how he felt about Keeley. Well, he did, but acknowledging the mating and participating in it were two totally different things. Right now, they didn’t need any extra headaches. However, he had a sneaky suspicion he was in over his head and he was too stupid, or ignorant, to admit it.

“He’s with Danielle.” Caden shrugged, moving around his brother. “The boy was in his pup form when I got him. I couldn’t take him to a hospital and you know if I took him to a vet—which there isn’t one in a twenty-mile radius—they would have freaked out if he spontaneously shifted. So, I brought him back here.”

“You don’t think the girl will freak the fuck out when he spontaneously shifts, Caden?” Kal couldn’t believe what his brother said.

“No,” he answered plainly.

“No?” Kalkin snorted. “I have got to hear this explanation. Come on, lay it on me. Tell me, ‘oh smart one,’ why she won’t freak the fuck out when the baby shifts.”

“She’s not normal either.” A slow small crossed his brother’s lips. “She got this…thing. I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone about it, but bro. She’s special.”

“Great. Fan-fucking-tastic. So, she could have a serious case of gas, but she’s special.” Wow, he knew his brother could be stupid sometimes, but this was a colossal fuck up. It ranked right up there with the time they were sixteen and Caden decided he was going to pull the tail of a cat shifter. The asshole ended up in bed for a week with tiger claw slashes to his side.

“I’m being serious, asshole,” Caden snapped, going nose to nose with his brother. “She helped the pup more in five minutes than a hospital could in two fucking weeks. I promised her I wouldn’t say what it was, but I felt her. She did something to him and he was a different pup when he woke up.”

Kalkin blinked, taking in everything his brother said. A part of him wanted to believe his brother and another part of him wanted to continue to chew his ass. He also realized he should be more concerned with the pup. Kal blew out a breath and scrubbed his hand across his brow. “How bad?”

“Two broken legs and some bites. Danielle thinks he’ll be fine. She wrapped the wounds and set his back legs.” He chuckled a bit. “Aiden ate up the attention when I checked on them after Mrs. Martin hooked me up with some breast milk for the boy.” Caden turned serious for a moment. “I don’t know why Tiffany had fucking pups. She couldn’t even take care of herself when we were younger. Then she goes off and gets fucking pregnant. The bitch tried to kill him!” Kalkin watched his brother pace. “Aiden is now parentless. Why? Because she doesn’t have enough fucking sense to bring all the pups to her Alpha.”

Wait. “There are more?” He couldn’t believe Caden would take one and leave the others. “Why did you leave them?”

“Aiden is the only one who survived.”

“Fuck.” He’d have to deal with this sooner rather than later. “Do we know the father?”

Caden snorted. “If I had to guess? Someone in the Quincy pack. The kid smelled of piss and shit, though, so I couldn’t be sure.”

“Shit. Not what we need right now, but because you went off half-cocked, you brought shit down on our new neighbors.” Kalkin couldn’t even be angry anymore. He understood Caden’s need to protect the baby. However, it couldn’t be at the expense of two women who’d been through their own shit. “What are you going to do when Aiden shifts and is a baby?”

“Well, I had been thinking about it when you pulled up to house like Billy Bad Ass. I’m going to tell her what we are.”

What? “Are you fucking kidding me?” He couldn’t believe what his brother was saying. “Why?”

“Tell me you aren’t planning to do the same.” Caden’s blue eyes swirled with intent. “Tell me you weren’t going to have Keeley run with you during the full moon.” His brother had him. He had been contemplating revealing himself during the first day of the summer festival.
“Shit,” he said, blowing out a frustrated breath. “This is all FUBAR.” Fucked up beyond all recognition.

“Tell me about it.”

“You’re part of the reason, asshole.” He turned away from his brother and caught his neighbor staring at him. “Great.”

“What?” His brother stepped over to where he was standing. “Ah, shit.” There, peeking out of their window, stood Keeley, Danielle, and a very happy little boy. Shit, maybe his brother had been right.

“Yeah, great fucking work, asshole. I’m betting they saw and heard everything. So much for having to explain it to them.”

“Hold on. You’re assuming they heard anything. They’re completely human. They couldn’t hear a flea fart.”

“I thought you said Danielle is special.” Kal cocked a brow. “Or were you blowing smoke up my ass about her?”

“She is. I can assure you what I experienced when she started working with Aiden,” Caden paused. “Shit, bro. It was amazing.”

“Are you sure she was touching the pup?” he quipped.

“Yes, dickhead. It wasn’t sexual at all, but it had been amazing nonetheless.” Caden’s blue gaze locked with Kal’s and his demeanor turned serious. “She’s my mate.”

Of all the fucking things he expected his brother to say, finding his mate hadn’t been one of them. “Shit. Are you sure?”

“Oh yeah.”

Winter Blog Review

Ah, once again I am starting a series at the end and not the beginning. From the opening pages I fell in love with this seaside town. Maryann’s descriptions put me on the beach, with the breeze filling my senses.

Lance as we first meet him is really a jerk. He wants his privacy but oversteps his bounds, in the process, embarrassing and scaring Jade away from the beach. The art he creates, although I can’t actually see it, I can picture in my mind. The pieces of sea glass suspended by intricate wires, moving in the air, sparking like a rainbow.

Jade in my opinion has the patience of a saint, and I loved her right away. Her strength and devotion to her teaching is inspiring. Her friends are loyal and supportive.

One of my favorite scenes is when Lance asks her why she gathers the sea glass.

Finally, gathering her wits, she rushed, “You can fuss and fume all you want, but the truth of the matter is, I like looking for sea glass, but other than giving some to my students for art projects I don’t need what I find.”

“Then why take it? What fascination could you possibly have with sea glass?” he bit back.

Her chest quivering, she stood her ground, staring at the infuriating— and furious— man. Dropping her eyes to the bag of colorful fragments, she wondered how to put into words what was in her heart without him trampling on her feelings. Slowly, she confessed, “Everyone looks at the ocean, but waves come and go. It’s as though nothing changes, if the only thing we do is just stare out at the water. But the beach does change… it’s full of what the ocean decides to leave for us to discover. Like little gifts. Sea glass is…” swallowing, she lifted her gaze back to him, “it’s proof that things can change… for the better. Life can break us into pieces, but we can change, become more beautiful than we were before.”

Lance sucked in a quick breath through his nose, her words striking a chord deep within. Letting his breath out slowly, he wondered how she managed to so eloquently state exactly what he had always thought… both about the waves and the sea glass.

Knowing her words sounded ridiculous, Jade shrugged, adding, “I know you make beautiful things with your glass. I’ve seen them at Jillian’s galleria. I’ve admired them for a while but never knew who made them.”

Feeling foolish in the face of her poetic words about the very thing he cared about, Lance just nodded. “Yeah… okay… thanks. But… uh… you don’t have to get any more sea glass for me. I’m good. I find what I need.”
Maryann Jordan. Picking Up the Pieces: Baytown Boys Series (Kindle Locations 630-644).

I truly loved the way this relationship develops, the slow chiseling Jade does to the walls around him.

But not all is so peaceful in this small seaside town, as murder and mayhem ensues.

Filled with suspense, love, and friends this is a book you won’t be able to put down.

I am going back to the beginning of this series to meet the others in this book in more detail.

Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love’s Series. Soon, other spin-off series came along and 8 of my books have made Amazon top 100 Bestselling books.

Gabe, from the Alvarez Security Series won Silver Medal and 5 Star Review by the 2016 Reader’s Choice Awards.

Winter Blog Review

I love this Kindle World and I look forward to the Releases. Much to my delight Heather Long has contributed to this batch.

If you follow my blog you know how much I love Military and former Military Romances and Heather Long writes some of the best.

Now I warn you now, I started this book in tears. Domestic terrorism is something we all fear and this opens with it. Liam’s sister dies in the explosion, and it becomes a search for answers.

Katie witnessed the bombing and was attacked right after the explosion. She was fortunately rescued from her attacker, but knows a bit more about that day than she should. Terrified she runs and is hiding at her family’s ranch in Montana.

Liam ‘Angel’ Knight is the one who saves Katie from that attacker and he has a few reasons to find her. He was found holding Katie’s purse, his sister died in the bombing and the damage done by the explosion may very well end his military career.

The fun begins when Angel finds Katie this is a favorite scene.

“Who the hell are you?” The huskiness of her voice rolled over him, sexy as hell and reminding him of a classic jazz singer from a movie set in the 20s.

“Angel,” he answered automatically, then before he could add the rest of his name, she blinked as disbelief and horror collided in her expression.

“I’m dead?” Her gaze cut away from him, to stare around the room, before zooming back to him. “Angels aren’t sexy—well unless you’re playing the devil. But that’s not what you said—” She sat abruptly, and scrubbed a hand over her face then winced. “How did I die? The guy who showed up? Was he one of them?”

One of them? Did she mean one of the bombers? Someone else? And as tempting as it might be to play along to extract the information he needed, her stricken reaction demanded he fix it.

“My name,” he said slowly, keeping his grip on the mug and his position solid, “is Liam Knight, Angel is a nickname.”

A flush filled her pale cheeks with color before she covered her face with her hands. “Oh my god. Am I dead? I can’t believe I just asked you that…” And as abruptly as she’d covered her face, she jerked her head up to look at him. “What the hell are you doing in my house?”

The flash fire emotions, and shifting reactions fascinated him. Not that he had time for his fascination. He was here to take her back to New York or at least find out what she knew. “I broke the door in when I heard the shotgun go off.” Absolute truth.

Twisting, she looked toward the front door, then her head tilted and he assumed she could see the hole she’d made in her ceiling. Since no one else appeared in the time since he’d come through the door, he assumed they were alone. He’d much rather have cleared the house, but he’d been curiously reluctant to leave her.

“How the hell did I…”
Heather Long. Chasing-Katie (Kindle Locations 206-220). Kindle Edition.

That started me laughing and there are many more giggles in this book along with the serious issue of someone else being able to find her.

Fast paced with plenty of action and getting to know you as the story makes it’s way to a hell of a climax.

The Brotherhood Protection crew lends a hand as do Mickey and Arizona from Heather’s Securing Arizona (in Susan Stoker’s Special Forces: Operation Alpha, kindle world).

From heartbreaking tears, to laughter, action, suspense and tears of joy this is a don’t miss read.

Release Day! Trying the Knot – Honeywell Series Book 3 by JM Madden

Trying the Knot
Honeywell Series Book 3
JM Madden

Winter Blog Blurb

This is the fourth book in the Honeywell series! Yes, this can be read as a standalone, but you’ll have a better read if you follow the series!

Emily Lowell is in a pickle. At her Brother Chad’s wedding shower, her former lover, Jackson, has just shown her exactly how combustible they still are together.

Yes, they made a pact to marry if she hadn’t found anyone else within ten years, but the pact is moot. She’s now engaged to be married to one of the hottest real estate brokers in Houston.

Should she be swayed by the wild heat that Jackson stokes in her, or should she follow the path she’s planned since college?

Jackson may not give her a choice…

Winter Blog Review

I am a sucker for a good love story and this series has them all over the place. The couples aren’t perfect but who is?

In this book we concentrate on Emily, she is the one Lowell that doesn’t have any interest in staying on the ranch. She has made herself successful in marketing and really loves the city life she’s found in Houston. Engaged to a successful Real Estate agent Neil, a man who still hasn’t come to any of her family events, Emily finds herself questioning that relationship.

Jackson is in my opinion every girl’s dream. He has loved Emily since they first got together eleven years ago. He gave her freedom to fly and now he wants her back, fiancé be damned.

This is a favorite scene, when Emily kicks Neil to the curb.

Emily looked down at herself. She was presentable enough, she supposed. She swung the door open. “Hello, Neil.”

Without even a word of greeting her fiancé stormed inside her apartment. “What the hell were you thinking, Emily? You probably just cost me one of the most lucrative commissions of my career.”

Emily laughed in spite of his anger, swinging the door shut behind him. “I doubt that.”

Neil spun on her, his blue eyes furious. “Why are you laughing?”

“Because Jackson is an old boyfriend of mine from Honeywell.”

His face screwed up into confusion. “Where the hell is Honeywell?”

And wasn’t that the rub. She’d been with Neil for months now and he didn’t even remember the name of her hometown. “It doesn’t matter, Neil. What matters is that I think Jackson was using you to get close to me.”

Neil planted his hands on his hips. “So why didn’t you say something at the restaurant? Why did you have to behave that way?”

Emily shook her head, turning to walk across to the window that looked out over the Houston skyline. “I’m not sure.”

A hard hand gripped her elbow and spun her around. Emily gasped at the unexpected movement. Her own anger began to build. “I can see you’re not going to behave rationally, Neil. Let’s meet up and talk about this after you’ve had a chance to cool off.”

“I’m not going to cool off for a while, Emily. I’ve wasted an entire week with this man, running his Indian ass all over Houston when he wasn’t even going to buy anything. I’ve passed on other potential customers because I was catering to him.”

Rather than let her go, Neil grabbed both of her arms and gave her a shake. “How long have you known that he was here? The entire week?”

Emily shook her head. “Tonight was the first time I’ve seen him in three weeks.”

Neil’s eyes narrowed on her. “In three weeks? Where is the last place you saw him?”

“At my father’s ranch for Chad and Lora’s wedding shower.”

Neil shoved her away, violently enough that Emily stumbled on the dragging length of her long sleep pants. Staggering, she recovered her balance, but her anger surged to an all-time high. “I don’t know why you think it’s okay to manhandle me the way you just did, Neil, but you need to get the hell out of my apartment. And you know what?” Emily scrambled at her hand, ripping at the diamond engagement ring there. She tossed it to him, enjoying watching him fumble to catch it. The chunky diamond fell to the floor and he had to scramble to find it. “What the hell are you doing, Emily? Is this really a big enough issue to cancel our engagement over? This is because I won’t settle on a date, right? We’ll settle on a date.”

Emily shook her head, heaving a sigh, crossing her arms beneath her breasts. “You just don’t understand, do you Neil? It’s not about the wedding date or Jackson or any of it. We’ve been together four months and you still don’t remember the name of my hometown, or the fact that I’m severely allergic to crab, or that I get nauseated in your car when you wear the cologne your ex gave you. It’s the fact that you don’t care enough to take the time to learn any of that. You’re too self-involved to even notice the little things that are important.”

He blinked and frowned, and for the first time her words had apparently sunk home.

“Oh. When you lay it out like that I can see why you would be aggravated.” They stared at each other for a long moment. He spun the ring on his forefinger a couple of times before clearing his throat and jolting into motion. He headed to the door of the apartment, but turned back at the last moment. “I’m sorry, Emily. You’re right in everything you said, and I apologize for that. Maybe we can, uh, grab a drink sometime or something.”

Then he disappeared out the door.
J.M. Madden. Trying The Knot (Kindle Locations 878-910). Kindle Edition.

Of course you know Neil isn’t going to stay away. However, Jackson has more than a few surprises for Emily as the Lowell family prepares for Chad and Lora’s wedding.

Laughter, love, snark, tears, and some very hot scenes kept me from putting this down once I started reading.

I really can’t wait for then next book in the series.

Winter Blog Review

I really wasn’t sure about this book when I bought it. Angels and Demons really weren’t my thing, but the premise intrigued me.

Mica seems to get herself into many life-threatening positions, keeping Sean the Primani assigned to her busy. Not only is Mica young, she is also a dare-devil and she has set her eyes on this Primani for more than just protection.

This is a favorite scene when Sean finally gives up the battle of staying away from Mica.

My thoughts exploded like fireworks. Every memory, every thought I’d had about him raced through my head until I made a startling discovery—somewhere along the way, I’d fallen in love with him.

He stroked my lower lip with the pad of his thumb, those beautiful lips of his curling into the barest hint of a smile. Leaning close, he dragged his mouth over the shape of my face once, twice, and again, before whispering against my lips, “If I look into your heart, Mica, what will I find?”

Mesmerized, lost, I whispered, “You. Only you.”
Olerich, Laurie. Primani (pp. 68-69). Kindle Edition.

A rollercoaster of emotions, with danger at every turn as Mica challenges Sean every chance she gets.

Laughter, tears and extreme heat in more ways than one, make this a must read.
