A Kindle World Novella
Rhonda Lee Carver
Even the strongest woman needs a shoulder to lean on…
Mason Sullivan remembers how he felt the day he learned his oldest brother wouldn’t be returning home. Not alive. Swearing he’d help others, he set a plan into motion. Flash forward…Mason has the life he wanted, but when a seductive, slice of heaven from his past comes back to Kerrville, his so-called “wonderful life” will have more holes than Swiss cheese. The only one who can fill the void is the same person who has the risk of flight. Sure, a cowboy has needs, and she certainly does make his head spin, but his heart isn’t immune to the beauty and he could lose her again…
Two things Kiernan Everhart loves most—her son and Double K Ranch. Years ago, she’d left home to pursue her dreams, but the big city wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Always there for her son, she helps him through the challenges of his medical condition, but sometimes even the strongest woman needs a shoulder to lean on. In Kerrville, she has the support of her family…and Mason Sullivan, the cowboy she stole kisses from back in the day. He’s grown into quite the perfect man and his bedside manner, as nurse and gentleman, sure can make a woman remember she’s more than a mother. She’d like to fall, right into his arms, but her priority is her son. And when her ex shows up, hijacking her happiness, all hell will break loose. Kiernan must perform damage control before the people she loves are hurt.
He didn’t plan to fall, but he did, and Mason would do anything to protect Kiernan and her son. He will not only have to face the demons of Kiernan’s past, but find out who is using scare tactics to send her packing. If it’s the last thing he’ll do, he’ll prove to her that he has the perfect place in his heart for her family.
Hell Yeah is one of my favorite kindle worlds and Rhonda’s contributions never fail to please.
In this one we meet Kiernan and her son Cullen. She has returned to Kerrville after having her shop fail in California. Being with family and friends is what she believes they both need.
Mason has always been a little in love with Kiernan, beginning with a stolen kiss behind the barn when they were kids. Now he hopes he has a chance with her.
Now you know things can’t go smoothly and boy do they get out of whack fast. No one is more surprised than Kiernan when she is confronted by her ex, Cullen’s father as she is cleaning stalls on her family ranch.
This is a favorite scene and the prelude to many issues to come.
Not realizing she was no longer alone, she jumped at the sound of footsteps behind her. Whirling on her heels, she came face to face with a familiar grin. Her stomach twisted and her mind spun. “What are you doing here?”
Quinton Roads tugged off his black hat and hooked it on a nail. Dark hair, nice eyes, he was still a good-looking man, but a bit more polished and cocky than she generally liked. She wondered what she ever saw in him in the first place. He smiled, showing off a row of straight pearly whites, and then she remembered. His charm had been what pulled her in ten years ago, but it did nothing now. Thank God!
“Howdy, sweetheart. Long time no see.”
“Too soon if you ask me,” she muttered. She kept the shovel held mid-air as if it was a weapon, although it wasn’t her intention. “I asked you a question.”
“Ah, come on, Kiernan. Imagine my shock when I heard you were in town. Why didn’t you call me when you got here?”
“Oh, I don’t know, Quint. How the hell was I supposed to know you were here?”
He seemed to absorb her words, but quickly recovered. “You described Kerrville as being perfect, so I had to see it with my own eyes. I live here now.”
“This is my town, Quint. You couldn’t find another place to call home?”
“I knew you’d eventually come back.” He grabbed her elbow and she pulled away.
“If I’d known you were here, I wouldn’t have returned.” She cringed.
“That’s not right, baby doll.” He puffed out his bottom lip. “I’m hurt.”
“Why in God’s name would you have reason to be hurt?”
He sniffed, his smile returning. “Maybe because I’m your baby daddy.”
Her world seemed to crash around her ears. “Look up the definition for “daddy” and you won’t find your name anywhere. Now, dead-beat is a different story.” She turned and shoveled another bunch, then turned to drop the shovelful on top of the pile, but she missed her target. A clump fell over the rim and onto his polished boots. He jumped back, smirking. “Aw, shucks.” She bit back a snicker. “Sorry about that. My aim is a little off today.”
Rhonda Carver. Hell Yeah! Without You.(Kindle Locations 404-424).
I loved the way Kiernan takes charge and then confronts Mason to dispel any thoughts he might have of her still being involved with her ex. These two are perfect for each other and the temperature between them rises rapidly.
Mason’s interactions with Cullen are priceless. Family is well meaning but well you know how that stuff usually goes.
Plenty of things to make you laugh, sniffle and keep you on the edge of your seat as this tale unfolds.
