Jena Morgan avoided the small town of Seeton, Wisconsin, for as long as she could. Okay, it probably wasn’t so much the town as the sexy fireman, Tyler Cole, who resided in it. All right, fine, it was all about the man with the fire hose. Nearly a year ago, they had a one-night stand that rocked her world, awakening harbored aspirations of a career, family, and love. With only three months left to help her best friend, Riley Kastner, with a wedding, Jena can no longer forestall going back to face the man who lit a fire under her…you know. Armed with a mature mindset, she has vowed to keep him at a distance while in town, at least, as far as a maid of honor can steer clear of the best man.

Tyler Cole had always been comfortable with a life of family, friends, and the career of his dreams in Seeton, Wisconsin. But ever since the red-headed vixen, Jena Morgan, blew in and out of his world almost a year ago, he’d become restless, not quite satisfied with what the small town had to offer. Just when he’d resigned himself to a life outside of Seeton, the woman who once set his body on fire shows up again, determined to pretend there was nothing between them. With a fractured man card, he vows to prove the maid of honor wrong before their best friends’ wedding.

When love is in the Seeton air, and meddling residents seem to be around every corner, whose vows will prevail?

Jena has been avoiding returning to Seeton, even though her best friend Riley has moved there. Her reason, Tyler. The firefighter who stole her heart her first night there.

With Riley’s wedding on the horizon, Jena’s run out of excuses and returns to Seeton determined to avoid Tyler and concentrate on her Maid of Honor duties.

Things don’t quite work that way since Tyler is Best Man. However when the sink in the apartment above the bar spews water everywhere, she runs into him at the hardware store and he offers his assistance.

I really love the conversations Jena has with herself and there are many.

This is a favorite she has while Tyler goes to get the correct part for the sink.

For the next five minutes, she thought about ways to protect her mission. She could call Riley, but then she’d have to fess up about the broken sink, and she still had no idea the extent of the damage the water spraying all over creation had done. Another alternative would be to throw on layers of clothes, but that would be too obvious…and sweltering.

Of course, there was always the whole willpower route she could go…

The tiny devil on her shoulder swatted the angel away and whispered his suggestion.

So, what was the worst that could happen if she slipped and fell into sex with Tyler? It wasn’t as though it would be as earth-shattering as their first time together. First times were like holy shit, we’re having sex, and everything is overstimulated and exaggerated. Emotions are mixed with hormones, and things get confused for appearing bigger than they really are.

“Yes,” her devil cheered.

It might even be beneficial for her to have sex with Tyler. She could realize their connection wasn’t as explosive and life-changing as she thought. The energy between them would fizzle, she’d go on to successfully own her daycare business, get married, pop out some babies, and live happily ever after.

So, in a nutshell, in order for her to die happy, she needed to have sex with Tyler Cole.

Her devil plopped his ass down on her shoulder and lit a cigarette.

Crap, she’d completely lost her mind.
Kentowski, L.J.. Full Potential: (A Heart of Seeton Novel) (pp. 116-117). Kindle Edition.

These two are hotter than hell fires when they’re together and there is sizzle even when they’re just in the same room.

As Jena looks at the possibility of a day-care, helps with the wedding plans and considers staying in Seeton, Tyler holds back a secret, one that could change everything.

I really hope there are plans for a book with Ivy and one with Riley’s sister Evie as well. These two definitely caught my attention.

Sizzling, romantic and some drama to round everything out. I’m going to have to try L.J.’s other series.

The town superstar has just met his match

When retired Army Captain and Prairie’s favorite son, Sterling Walker, returns home to join Resolution Ranch, he finds himself face to face with his biggest rival- Emma Sinclaire, the sole daughter of Prairie’s oldest family- all grown up, gorgeous, and glaring daggers at him.

Will it be winner take all in this battle of hearts?

A rising star at Kansas City’s internationally acclaimed Royal Fountain Media, Emma agrees to personally oversee the marketing and fundraising campaign for Resolution Ranch. But she never expected to come face to face with her high school nemesis, Sterling Walker, let alone have to work closely with him. As they face off across the boardroom, she can’t deny her attraction to the smart, sexy, soldier who engages her in battle at every turn.

When a moment of carelessness threatens to shut down the fundraiser before it starts, Sterling will put everything on the line to protect Emma’s reputation. Will it be enough to win Emma’s heart for good? Or will the fallout be the ruin of Resolution Ranch?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

After burying one of his best friends, Sterling is in a bad place. A phone call from Travis offers him a new beginning, a new life.

Emma and Sterling have been competitors since high school. But while Sterling looks at that time as making him better at everything, Emma sees it being humiliated time after time.

This is a favorite scene at the Trading Post on New Year’s Eve.

He shrugged, a rueful grin playing at the corner of his mouth. “There was a chance you might say no.”

“I almost did.”

He tipped his head closer to hers. “Then I’ll consider this my lucky day.”

A shiver of attraction skittered down her spine as she caught his gaze and held it. His voice held a note of sin and promise. It would be so easy to give in. Become another in a long line of conquests. But, no. Not tonight. Not ever. She looked away. His hand at her hip gave her a little squeeze, somehow acknowledging what had just passed between them. “I should thank you, you know.”

She glanced up sharply. “How so?”

His eyes were sincere. He wasn’t teasing her this time. “You made me work.”

“What do you mean? Everything came easy to you.”

“Some things easier than others,” he admitted. “But I don’t think I’d have gotten the appointment to West Point without pushing myself to beat you.”

“The competition didn’t hurt me either. I was ready for Barnard when I arrived.”

“I wasn’t.”

“Ready for West Point? For real?” His admission shocked her. “The great Sterling Walker unprepared?”

He maneuvered them between two other couples. “No one is prepared for Beast. Not even me. But that’s the point. It’s supposed to be brutal. You’re supposed to want to quit, but you don’t. It builds you up.”

Her respect for him went up a notch. “How’d you get through that?”

He studied her intently while the last notes of Kaycee Starr’s song faded. Heat bloomed across her chest as the strains James Arthur’s Say You Won’t Let Go filled the bar. When he finally spoke, his voice came out with a burr. “You dig deep. Remember the people you love at home and why you’re there. And the people you’re letting down if you give up.”

“There’s no way you ever would have quit, Sterling. It’s not your style.” But still, she couldn’t imagine what it must have been like, if he was admitting it was hard. Especially to her.

His expression turned serious. “Can I ask you something?”

Her heart began to thump erratically. “Sure?” Sterling was never serious. At least not with her. She tensed as she waited for him to speak.

“Do you think I’m an asshole?”

“Sorry?”

“Do you think I’m an asshole?”

He was serious too. She opened her mouth but no sound came out. How in the hell was she supposed to answer that?

His face tightened. “Your face says it all. You think I am. I was. Shit.” He stopped in the middle of the dance floor, putting both his hands on her shoulders. “I was an asshole. To you for sure, and probably to others. And I have no excuse for my behavior except that I was a teenaged dumbshit. If I hurt you in any way I’m truly sorry. I never wanted to hurt you.”

A rush of feeling flooded her, pricking her eyelids with hot tears. She would not cry in front of Sterling. “I… thank you,” she finished lamely. What else could she say? She’d never admit to the countless soaked pillows, or the tears she’d cried into her horse’s mane.

The song switched to Brad Paisley’s Then as the clock crept toward midnight. Sterling pulled her back into his arms, and this time she let him pull her close. Maybe it was dangerous to do so, let herself get close enough to catch a whiff of his spicy cologne. He was so charming. It would be so easy to melt into him. Lose herself in a kiss or four.

“Emma?”

“Yes?”

“Do you think we could start over?” His eyes were soft. Hopeful.
Layne, Tessa. A Hero’s Heart: Resolution Ranch (pp. 24-26). Shady Layne Media. Kindle Edition.

Nothing comes from that encounter, not even a kiss to start the new year.

The trail drive was hard and satisfying. Now preparations begin to get the ranch up and running. A major fundraiser to finance the buildings to house the veterans coming for help. The dream of this ranch beginning to come to fruition.

In spite of her resolve Emma finds herself not resisting the charm and persistence of Sterling’s pursuit. Unfortunately he has to come to terms with himself before their relationship can be a relationship.

Stolen electronics cause major problems and Sterling steps up to prevent these things from not only destroying the fundraisers for the ranch, but Emma as well. Although he does it without contact, that was handled by Jamey, Lydia, Luci and Hope.

I fell in love with Cade and Kate, Jason, Macey and Sophie even though they are secondary characters here. I hope we see all of them again.

A page turning read with plenty of suspense, drama, laughter and a few tears as well.

Weston’s Trouble – Saddles and Second Chances Book 3 By Rhonda Lee Carver

Weston’s Trouble
Saddles and Second Chances Book 3
By
Rhonda Lee Carver

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Once upon a time, Weston Jericho could have any woman he wanted, but these days he’s known as “daddy” and less “bachelor of the year”. His daughter and his ranch are his priority until country-girl-turned-city waltzes back into his average life. She’ll have him juggling daddy duties with the need to be near the one woman who stole his heart years ago.

Her father’s declining health leaves Sammie Tanner with no other choice but to come home to Colton, Texas and get things back in order on the ranch, and face those she left behind. From the second her boots cross the county line she finds nothing but trouble, especially with Weston who has her cursing like the backwoods country girl he remembers, and still desires.

Her heart wants the cowboy, but how does she reveal the true reason why she left him…left home? Will he look at her the same? Can she take the risk?

This story opens with Weston helping his neighbor Lucas and discovering the amount of neglect of his property. Concerned he notifies Lucas’ daughter, Samantha.

Now Samantha was on a date with her business partner Brady, a date where she realizes she really has no feelings for the man. The voice mail from Weston is just what she needs. A reason to get away.

This is a favorite scene after Weston picks her up when her rental breaks down.

If he’d wanted to grab her attention, he had it. Her mouth fell open and her eyes widened. “Did I hear you correctly or do I have heat stroke? He fell? Then stitched himself up?”

“Are you more surprised that he fell or the fact that he decided to fix himself?”

“Looking at things closer, maybe the fall because we both know he’s a stubborn man. He has always refused going to the doctor, especially after mom died. I think he’s afraid to hear that he needs to stop eating bacon and eggs every morning.”

“Well, he might be a bit more stubborn these days.”

“I’m sensing there’s more than meets the eye. What are you not telling me?”

There was a lot he could tell her, but he didn’t want to scare her off. And yet, he had to clue her in that things weren’t running smoothly back on her homestead. “He’s let things go.”

“’Go’ as in he’s loosened up in the last years, or ‘go’ as in I’m walking into a mess?”

“Probably a bit of both.”

“Is Braise still the foreman? He started working there before I was born and I always thought of him as an uncle.”

“He’s still there. You know he wouldn’t jump ship, but several of the hands have, causing a problem with keeping up with everything.”

“Why are they leaving?”

He shrugged. “These are all rumors, but I’ve heard he fired a few and the rest he just hasn’t paid so they had no choice but to find other work.”

She paled. “I wondered if this was a ploy to get me back here to take over the wheels at Tanner Ranch. I think things are worse than I suspected, but I can’t stay. Colton is no longer my home. Daddy always wanted me to be the son he never had.”

“Come on, Sam. I remember a time when you had big plans for the ranch. You went off and got that important degree hoping to put it to use out here. Don’t pretend with me, you hear?”

“Who knows at age five what they want to be as an adult? I think from the very beginning I was expected to fall into line, marry me some cowboy and support him in running the land. Hell, every time I told Daddy about my ideas, he blew me off. He took more stock in what his hands had to say than his own flesh and blood.”

“I’ll agree, he has traditional beliefs, but I think if you’d have stuck around, you would have seen him come to terms, make a complete turnaround. Don’t forget, whether you like it or not, Tanner Ranch is your legacy. Whatever you choose to do, keep in mind this is Lucas’s home, handed down generations. He wants what’s best.”

“Are you defending him?” Her smile faded.

“Nope. Just sayin’, that’s all. By the way, he has no clue that you’re coming. He would have raised cane if he knew I called you.”

“So, he didn’t ask for me to be here?” She wrapped her arms over her chest.

He looked over. “Whether he realizes it or not, he needs your help.”

“We didn’t quite part ways on a happy note. Things just keep getting worse. I invited him to Chicago, but he wasn’t interested.”

Weston laughed. “Do you really need me to respond to that?”

“Chicago is a wonderful place, even for cowboys.”

“I heard it is, but he’s not getting any younger, SeeSa—I mean, Sam. Whatever troubles you two cooked up between you, everything needs to be washed clean before it’s too late. You’re right, he’s stubborn, but so are you. Otherwise, you’d have been back years ago.”

She squinted. “No, I wouldn’t. I’m here to help him, but let’s be clear, I no longer belong here. If he needs more help than I can give, then we’ll carry out another plan, none of which tie me to Colton.”
Carver, Rhonda Lee. Weston’s Trouble (Saddles & Second Chances Book 3) (Kindle Locations 668-706). Kindle Edition.

Sam was in for a shock as she goes over the books and surveys the ranch. He father less than helpful, she goes to Weston for help.

As they work together to get the ranch up to where it’s profitable again, the spark between them re-ignites. But will it be enough to get Sam to stay.

An enjoyable read with a couple of surprises, an ex-wife and a father who needs to remember how to love.

I did have a problem with the editing, admiral instead of admirable was just one.

Loving the Flint Hills! Prairie Devil – Cowboys of the Flint Hills Book 6 By Tessa Layne

Prairie Devil
Cowboys of the Flint Hills Book 6

He’s the Devil she shouldn’t want

Colton Kincaid is a rake and a heartbreaker. Thrown out of the house when he was seventeen by his brother, Travis, he scrapped his way to the top of the rodeo circuit riding broncs, and never looked back… Until a chance encounter with hometown good girl Lydia Grace leaves him questioning everything and wanting a shot at redemption.

She’s the Angel he can never have

All Lydia Grace needs is one break. After having her concepts stolen by a famous shoe designer, she returns home to Prairie to start a boot company on her own. But when her break comes in the all too sexy form of Colton Kincaid, she wonders if she’s gotten more than she’s bargained for.

They say be careful what you wish for

To get her boot company off the ground, Lydia makes Colton an offer too good to refuse, but he ups the ante. Will the bargain she strikes bring her everything she’s dreamed of and more, or did she just make a deal with the devil?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Travis had kicked his brother out years ago for not being able to follow the rules, calling it tough love. Colton hit the rodeo trail and has become successful and Travis now wants to reconnect. His lovely bride,  Elaine, and his aspirations for the ranch a big part of the why.

Even before we get into the nitty-gritty of this book, I’m in tears. It’s Travis’ wedding, when Colton shows up.This is a favorite scene.

Steeling himself, he rapped hard on the door.

On the other side, a chair scraped, a muffled voice spoke low, but Colton could barely hear it over the pounding of his blood. After what felt like eons, the door creaked open and dozens of pairs of eyes turned on him, some with surprise, some narrowed. He searched for Travis and found him, gripping the elbow of a pretty young thing with big blue eyes in a simple white dress. This must be Elaine. And the boy next to her must be her son Travis had mentioned, Dax. Colton gulped and removed his hat, all the speeches he’d prepared vanishing into the ether. “I hope I’m not interrupting.”

The startled silence unnerved him. Colton’s chest burned. He never should have come. But fuck it, he was here now, and he wouldn’t back down, not until this played out until the bitter end. He flashed a grin to the faces in the room, and his eyes collided with a blue-green pair in the back of the room. He’d know those eyes anywhere. But it had been so long, he couldn’t tell. And instead of long hair wrapped in a ponytail, it was sleek and short, swinging against her jawline. Lydia? Or her twin, Lexi? Back in the day, it had been easy to tell them apart. Lexi’d always been wrapped up saving animals, the environment, or some other crusade of the week, and hadn’t ever paid him much attention. Lydia had been the more buttoned-up of the pair, and had tried to save him. Sweet, good Lydia. He owed her an apology too. Judging from the way his pulse quickened, it had to be Lydia. But the look in her eye didn’t say buttoned-up. Not by a long shot.

Travis stepped forward, eyes guarded. “Colton.”

“Travis.” The tension wound around them, pulsing between them like a living, angry dragon. Someone coughed. A chair squeaked. The buzzing in his ears grew louder, drowning out the sound of his breathing.

And then – Travis stepped forward and pulled him into a bear hug, pounding him on the back. “You’re just in time.” He spoke hoarsely, like a sweetgum burr had lodged itself in his throat. “Just in time.”

A rush of hot emotions surged through Colton, taking his voice. Relief, primary amongst them. He returned the hug, awkwardly giving his brother a pat. They were the size now, both men. Each hardened through the pressures of life. Colton cleared his throat. “I’ll just stand in the back.”

“Wait.” Travis laid a hand on his arm. “Stand with me?”

Had he lost his mind? Ten years gone, and the first thing he asked was this? Shit. Travis really did mean to bury that hatchet. Colton nodded once, keeping his face neutral. No need to let everything hang out in front of the assembled group. There’d be plenty of time down the line to hash things out. The room let out a collective sigh as he took his place next to his brother. Throughout the brief ceremony, Colton kept his eyes trained on a spot between Travis’s shoulder blades, hearing but not registering any of the words until the little boy next to him shouted. “Now I have a dad and an uncle.”
Layne, Tessa. Prairie Devil: Cowboys of the Flint Hills (Kindle Locations 114-136). Shady Layne Media. Kindle Edition.

Okay so I always cry at weddings, but it’s here that Lydia and Colton run into each other. Lydia has always been known as the good girl and she so want’s to break that mold and the only one she wants is Colton. Only he rejects her, because, in his words, he’s an idiot, but he’s also a gentleman and Lydia was drinking heavily.

Lydia lost her job in NY now she’s contemplating her own boot business. When Colton shows up to see how she’s doing after the wedding, he also wants boots.

After a threat from Colton’s Sponsors, Lydia agrees to be his fake fiancé and he agrees to invest in her business. Of course this is a dangerous path for both of them since their attraction is off the charts.

Lots happens in this book, it kept me turning the pages and also surprised me a few times.

Love, laughter, family, deception and plenty of heat.

More Love for Willow Bend! Untamed Wolf – Wolves of Willow Bend Book 6 – By Heather Long

Untamed Wolf
Wolves of Willow Bend Book 6
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Heather Long

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Dylan Royce, Willow Bend Hunter, is a natural flirt and courted his fair share of she-wolves, but he’s never found the woman who makes his pulse race. With the new pack’s borders verging on Willow Bend territory, he’s tasked with keeping an eye on them. His job grows more challenging daily, especially since one seductive female keeps crossing the line.

Chrystal Landros knows she’s supposed to keep to her side of the Three Rivers-Willow Bend line. But she loves to explore, and Willow Bend is home to some spectacular sites. As a former Lone Wolf, she hasn’t always been certain of her welcome, but her new home in Three Rivers opens a wonderful world of unfamiliar opportunities. Too bad the wolf who makes her blood heat is tasked with keeping her away from the places she wants to visit.

While Dylan and Chrystal clash repeatedly over her border incursions, the game between them threatens to turn deadly. Tensions between Willow Bend and Three Rivers continue to rise. Could their forbidden dalliance be the spark to ignite a war?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Oh Chrystal, you truly stink at staying within borders. The situations you get yourself into, well let’s just say you need to be more careful.

Dylan was looking forward to his date and enjoying the snowfall on his route when he scented the wayward wolf. When he finds her in a precarious position he is annoyed and scared for her.

This is a favorite scene when he needs her to shift so she’ll be warm and get to his cabin quicker.

Wide eyes blinking at him again, she swallowed. “You’re naked.”

“No kidding. And if my balls get frostbite, I’ll do more than snarl at you. Shift.”

“But you’re staring at me.”

It was Dylan’s turn to blink. Nudity wasn’t a big deal. She certainly had nothing to be ashamed of. Her long tumble of brown hair fell in damp waves against her soft olive skin. Blessed by generous curves and full breasts, she lacked tight muscle definition but her plush form didn’t betray any hint of weakness. If anything, it reinforced his need to see her safely shifted to a warmer form and out of the snow before she caught a real illness. Though wolves rarely sickened the way humans did, they could get ill if they didn’t take care of themselves.

Or if those who are supposed to be taking care of her fail to look after her properly. The failure to do so added another black mark against the new so-called Alpha, as far as he was concerned. “Just change, Chrystal. The faster you do, the faster I can slip this on you and change myself.”

Another hop from foot to foot as misery burst like a rain cloud over her head. “I don’t know if I can do it while you’re watching.”

Not a refusal, not a challenge, a cry for help. Grunting, Dylan said, “I’ll watch the tree line, but I’m not turning my back on you.” Then, because her continued quaking left him feeling like an asshole, he gentled his tone. “You’re safe, Chrystal. Nothing will touch you while you shift. I promise.”

Doubt clung to her expression, although her eyes remained downcast. She nodded slowly. “Thank you.”

Yep. Her gratitude at being granted protection while she did as he’d ordered increased his sense of being a jerk. The little wolf was in the wrong, and it was his task to correct her and send her from their territory. Her constant flouting of the rules, however, needed to be quashed. How the hell did she survive as a Lone Wolf when she didn’t know how to follow the simple restrictions outlined by the probation treaty offered to Three Rivers?

Scanning the tree line, Dylan waited for the sounds of her shift, but none seemed forthcoming. Sparing her a glance, he found her arms folded tight against her chest while she continued to alternate from foot to foot. Her shivering increased ten-fold, however, and a faint tinge of blue touched her lips.

“What’s wrong?” Why the hell isn’t she shifting?

“I don’t know,” she said with more fear in her tone than bite. “I’m trying, but nothing seems to be happening.”

Disregarding her earlier discomfort at his stare, Dylan studied her. Her shivering increased. His wolf rousing from their shared grumpiness, he clasped her shoulder. If she couldn’t shift, she was in a lot more trouble than frozen clothes, frostbite and violating Willow Bend territorial boundaries. “Chrystal.” He snapped out the two syllables of her name and her gaze jerked to his. Calling a wolf out was a job best left to an Alpha, but dominant wolves could do it if they could override the more submissive wolf’s tendencies.

His vision flickered as his wolf peered out of his eyes. Growling, he uttered the command, “Shift.”

One blink. Then two. Her walnut eyes bled gold as her wolf glared out at him. No, not glared. Her wolf wasn’t angry; she was terrified. Fisting his control, Dylan let his anger and frustration bleed out of him. Ordering her wolf around when she plainly didn’t know how to cope with a more dominant animal served no one.

“Come on, darling,” he murmured, giving her shoulder a squeeze. “Come on out and play.”

The change rippled over her, and her eyes went completely wolf. When the muscles beneath his hand began to tug, he released her and stepped back to give her space. Shivering cascaded into the violence of her change. Her moans turned to whimpers and growls. Finally, fur glided over her shifted bones and form. She landed on four feet in front of him, panting hard.

Giving her a moment to reorient herself, Dylan lowered to a crouch rather than towering over her. The stink of fear occluded her sweeter scent. Yes, she needed discipline. Yes, she broke their treaty. Yes, he needed to kick her ass, but none of those offenses interested him at the moment. The she-wolf’s terror ignited every protective instinct he had. Extending a hand, he said, “Good girl. Beautiful job.”

A low whine vibrated in her throat, and she dropped to her belly. Dammit. His wolf’s frustration mirrored Dylan’s. They didn’t want her crawling. If he dragged her to him and gave her a hug, he’d likely scare the shit out of her. Settling his palm against her head, he gave her a gentle scratch.

“Sweet girl, thank you.” The wolf’s ears flicked toward him. She was a dusky black and white wolf, darker hairs sprinkled amongst the silver and white. In low light and at a distance, she’d look more like a husky than wolf. Her slighter build would help her blend in more urban areas. When she dared a glance at him, he gave her a small smile.

“Can you stand up, beautiful? Need to put these clothes over your head and around your shoulders.” If he fit it snug enough, they wouldn’t hamper her movements. With great hesitation and care, she rose to her feet, but kept her whole body hunched and tail tucked between her legs.

Ignoring the frigid air and his own discomfort, Dylan kept his touch on her light. Gradually, her slunk gave way to a better posture, and she darted another look at him. Maintaining a smile, he said, “Ready when you are, beautiful.”
Long, Heather. Untamed Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend Book 6) (pp. 12-16).Kindle Edition.

This is not the last time Chrystal crosses borders. The next time in the middle of a blizzard leads to issues with her pack and Willow Bend. But it also leads to rescuing a wolf and her cub and three days alone with Dylan.

Lots of surprises in this one, we see a bit more the mysterious Enforcer Julian and of course Mason. Some hold your breath scenes and some seriously hot ones.

A New Romance from L.J. Kentowski! Love Owned – Heart Seeton Book 1

Love Owned
Heart of Seeton Book 1
By
L.J. Kentowski

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

It’s her property…

Riley Kastner is desperate to prove she can make it as an independent business owner, if for no other reason than to avoid working for her condescending parents. Unfortunately, her fledging planning business isn’t exactly soaring. In fact, it hasn’t even lifted for takeoff. So, when she finds out she’s the beneficiary of a bar in small town, USA, she takes a chance and lets fate lead the way.

It’s his life…

Dax Beckett wanted nothing to do with his dad’s bar, but he sure as hell didn’t expect him to give it to a complete stranger, especially a big city girl who knows nothing about running one. So, what’s a guy to do to save the family business? Charm her out of her sexy undergarments, of course.

But who’s in charge, when it’s owned by love?

Making Beckett’s a success is the common goal, but are they willing to sacrifice their hearts to achieve it?

Never good enough in her parent’s opinion, Riley seems to fall into their trap every time. Her current business event planning is failing but she refuses to give in and work for her mother. When her best friend and partner Jena discovers a letter from a lawyer naming her as a beneficiary in the will of someone she doesn’t remember she is skeptical. However a weekend trip to make a decision isn’t out of the question.

When his father died, Dax as his only child, made the assumption he inherited everything. He is in for a shock and a surprise.

This is a favorite scene when they first meet.

After making sure the restroom was as spotless as when she’d entered, Riley grabbed her stuff and headed out. As she turned the corner of the building, she was stopped short by the sight of an old, red pickup truck at the pump nearest the store entrance. The cab of the truck blocked her from seeing anything past it, but as she continued, she glanced up and almost tripped over her own feet at the sight of a man staring at her. It didn’t matter that a battered baseball cap shaded his eyes because she felt them on her as if they were hands frisking every inch of her body.

Good Lord, he was mouth-watering.

Tall, with broad shoulders giving way to tan, sinewy biceps peeking out of a dirty gray t‑shirt, he was the epitome of rugged male virility. It was all she could see of him from behind the back of the pickup, but it was enough to make her drool. As she put her fingers to the side of her mouth to check for moisture, she saw his five o’clock shadow spread slowly from the gorgeous smile lifting his mouth.

Riley was staring. She knew it was rude, but she couldn’t stop.

His head bobbed. Or was it a nod?

Realizing she probably seemed like an idiot, Riley pulled herself together and returned his smile. She managed to wrench her eyes away and turned to enter the store but realized she was an idiot. While gracelessly ogling the hottie at the pump, she’d walked right past the door.
She desperately wanted to check over her shoulder to see if he’d noticed but resisted because she already knew there was no way he could not have noticed. He’d regarded her every step. Hell, it was probably why he’d smiled at her. Surely, he was in hysterics over how juvenile she’d acted.

After backtracking, she marched into the store.

“I don’t know how you managed, Miss Riley, but you look even prettier than before,” the store owner said from behind the counter.

She was so flustered from her behavior outside, his words barely registered. “Oh, thank you,” she said in a scratchy voice.

“Well, here’s your card.” He handed her license back across the counter.

“Thank you, Mr.…”

“Just call me Earl.”

She shot him a smile as she nodded in acknowledgment.

“You have yourself a good day, now, Miss Riley.”

“Thank you. You, too, Earl.”

Riley started out of the store slowly, prepared to keep her eyes on the pavement and go straight to the car without a glance at the pickup truck hottie. Once outside, she took a deep breath and power-walked toward Jena’s car. She’d almost made it, when a rich, husky voice from behind stopped her cold.

“Did you drop something?”

Spinning around, she came face-to-face with the man she was trying so hard to evade. He was even more breathtaking up close. Literally breathtaking. She couldn’t find hers.

“Excuse me?” Her voice came out as a squeak.

“Is this yours?” he asked.

As close as they were standing, with the sun finding a way to penetrate the shade of his hat, she could clearly see the green of his eyes. They reminded her of a beautiful pond littered with pieces of gold.

His eyebrows raised, and she realized he was holding something up with his outstretched hand. She couldn’t focus on the item, though, because she was too preoccupied with the way his broad chest tapered down to a narrow waist and flat stomach. Shamelessly, she tried to see how his hips and thighs filled out the low-slung jeans he was wearing, but whatever he was waving in his hand was in the way. When she finally zoned in on it, she was horrified. Swinging off his finger was her bra. Her pink, tiger-striped bra.

“It’s not mine,” she blurted.

His gaze fell to her breasts, and her nipples stood at attention as if to say…It’s mine! It’s mine!

Blood rushed up to her neck and settled in her cheeks.

“No?” His doubt was apparent.

“No, why do you ask?”

His eyes averted to her tote, and she glanced down to see her yoga pants hanging perilously over the edge. Riley was busted. She could deny it until she was blue in the face, but he knew. And she knew he knew, which made it all the more embarrassing. But there was no way in hell she was retracting her lie.

A faint glint of humor sparked in his eyes as one side of his mouth curved up into a sexy little smirk, one she was certain could kill someone someone with a heart condition.

“I just assumed,” he said, his lips manipulating the grin nicely. “My apologies. I guess I’ll hold onto it then since there’s no one else around to claim it.”

She wanted to die. He was going to keep her bra. “Well, enjoy it, I guess,” she said, sounding like a bumbling idiot.

He laughed, and hell if it wasn’t the best one she’d ever heard. Deep, rich, and throaty, it rumbled right down through her matching tiger-striped panties.
Kentowski, L.J.. Love Owned: (A Heart of Seeton Novel) (pp. 20-23). Kindle Edition.

Now getting over the fact that his father left the bar to a complete stranger is helped only by the fact that Dax is extremely attracted to the new owner.

Riley on the other hand is doing her best not to get involved with overly confident Dax.

Plenty of fun, laughs and sizzle with a bit of family drama.

Justice for Gwen – Police and Fire: Operation Alpha – Guardian Elite Book 2

Justice for Gwen
Police and Fire: Operation Alpha
Guardian Elite Book 2
By
Kalyn Cooper

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

She’s not what she seems. Neither is he. But the terrorist threat is real. So is the desire that smolders between them.

Gwen Shaw overhears refugee teenagers discussing a plot to rival 9/11, but her Arabic is rusty. Besides, who is going to believe the sketchy information from an apron-wearing newcomer, even though she’d recently left the Army as a seasoned officer?

Jonathan O’Neil, new to the Dallas Guardian Security Center, knows a terrorist plot when he sees one on the tempting waitress’ computer. To find out the details of the plan and to stop them, he sets out to seduce her, only to find that nothing is what it seems.

Originally published as Smoke and Mirrors in a Kindle world, Justice for Gwen has been rewritten to blend the hot men from Susan Stoker’s Badge of Honor series with the sexy men from KaLyn Cooper’s Guardian Elite series into a heart-pounding romantic suspense.

When I started reading this I knew it was going to be something different. Especially with Jonathan’s encounter with a couple of older ladies leaving the diner as he is entering. Giggling right from the start.

Quin and Jonathan were having their first meeting since Jonathan had joined him from the Miami Guardian office. However this was not to be a normal meeting in any sense of the word. Interrupted by a distraught well dressed woman full of accusations and venom as their waitress Gwen delivers their order, this is a favorite scene. It does have adult language but it is definitely necessary.

Quin looked clueless, and Jonathan had no idea who any of these people were or what the hell she was talking about.

Gwen appeared with their food and hip checked the woman out of the way. She set the plates on the table and called out to everyone, “Show’s over folks. Go back to your food and drinks.”

She turned to the woman and Gwen fisted her hands in her hips. “Bitsy, what the hell? You know better than to bring your dirty laundry into my restaurant.”

“Well, I tried to get into their office, but it’s like Fort Knox.” Bitsy opened the gigantic yellow purse and started to dig. “Besides, this isn’t your restaurant. Suze and James will be back soon.”

Gwen cocked her head. “It is mine right now, since they left me in charge.” Under her breath, she added, “Damn it all.”

Jonathan flipped the leather tab that secured his handgun in the holster at his side. If she pulled a gun out of there, he’d be ready. A glance toward the standing cops revealed they’d done the same.

Bitsy lifted her head and wagged a single key on a ring. “This fucking thing doesn’t work anymore.” The irate woman vibrated. “Because if had it worked, I would have killed that husband-fucking secretary of theirs.” She glared lasers at Quin and Jonathan.

Then Bitsy pulled a pink Glock 26 from the outside pocket of her purse.
Cooper, KaLyn. Justice for Gwen : (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha) (Guardian Elite Series Book 2) (Kindle Locations 199-210). Aces Press, LLC. Kindle Edition.

There is an immediate attraction between Jonathan and Gwen but he doesn’t act on it right away. He instead becomes a nightly regular for breakfast.

Gwen keeps a close eye on everything in her restaurant. When she overhears some teenage boys speaking Arabic she transcribes what becomes a catalyst for Jonathan to take action. Unfortunately for him that action also leads to what she interprets as betrayal of trust.

A complicated state of affairs as they try to figure out the target of the boys’ relatives. Even as their attraction for each other increases.

We see Alex and Griffin in this one and Cruz from Susan Stoker’s Justice for Mickie. Oh, and lots of Police, Fire and EMTs. Then there’s Kane, a character I hope we see more of in future Guardian Elite books.

A page turner with plenty of twists, turns and action. With a sizzling romance that add some heat to this fiery tale.

Bayou Wolf – Wolves of Willow Bend Book 5 By Heather Long

Bayou Wolf
Wolves of Willow Bend Book 5
By
Heather Long

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

The rise of so many lone wolves into a prospective sixth pack brings the Alphas of all the North American packs to Willow Bend for a summit. Having so many powerful dominants in one place invites challenges and hazards. No protocol can be ignored and none feels the strain more than Lincoln Buckley. He’s been charged by his Alpha to act as liaison for the Delta Crescent Alpha—the fierce and wildly beautiful Serafina Andre.

Serafina stands apart from her ‘fellow’ Alphas. As the only female to hold sway over a North American pack, she only has Delta Crescent’s interests in mind. She expects challenges from the other male Alphas, dominants all, due to their need to protect females. It doesn’t surprise her in the least to find out the wolf assigned as her liaison has also been tasked with her protection. What does startle her is the depth of her interest in him.

An Alpha doesn’t submit, no matter how much the woman in her might crave him. Her pack must come first, especially since what Willow Bend proposes is insanity…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Tensions are high in this book as we meet all the Alphas. The severity of the prospect of a sixth pack has Mason calling for a summit of all the Alphas, but Emma also needs to speak with the other healers regarding the issues from Hudson River. Thus the Alpha must bring their healer, since no Alpha will let harm come to a healer.

Mason is a crafty devil, I swear it! His choices for each Alpha’s liason is genius. Claire for Cassius, Dylan for Diesel, Owen for Brett and Linc for Serafina. Claire because of her relationship with Cassius, Dylan and Owen because of their strength, and Linc because of his Alpha potential although he doesn’t want it.

This is a favorite scene as Linc botches the initial greeting with Serafina.

A broad face and square jaw kept his pretty down to handsome. The corner of his full mouth kicked up a fraction in a smile. Most Hunters, her Hounds included, carried themselves with a faint air of aggression. The wolf waiting for them seemed far calmer on the surface.

Who did Mason send to be her liaison?

“Wait here.” She reinforced with the order with her will and slid out of the car. A hint of rain perfumed the air, but the gray cloud cover remained too thin for more than some sprinkles. The cooler temperatures sent goosebumps racing over her skin. An unsettling chill curled at the base of her spine and raced through her system as though she’d encountered static. Even in winter, home was warmer than the wooded campground she crossed.

The waiting male straightened as she strode across the grass. His chin raised and she got a good look at the dark blue of his eyes when his gaze collided with hers. Strength pulsed behind those eyes—strength and something more. Her wolf’s attention snapped through her. The beast’s focus was so intense, she clenched her hands to keep her claws from extending.

Alpha. The whisper of insight came from the spirits her mother communed with throughout her life. The powerful voodoo priestess took a wolf to mate then became a wolf herself. Though a turned wolf, Maria never abandoned her faith, and she’d passed her gifts to her children. When the spirits shared their knowledge, Serafina listened. Strong. Tempestuous.

“Hot.” The last came out in a masculine timbre not remotely resembling the spirits. At her raised eyebrows, the wolf gazing at her blinked and the tips of his ears reddened. The faint scent of citrus, woods, and freshly crushed evergreens perfumed the air. Clearing his throat, the wolf gave her a half-grin. “My apologies, Serafina Andre. I’m afraid your beauty bowled me over and the filter between my brain and my mouth failed.”

The apology shouldn’t amuse her, so she schooled her features and waited. Power, tightly contained and raw, roiled around the other wolf. Trust Mason to surround himself with powerful wolves. It had been one of his more attractive qualities—a self-confidence he didn’t need to bolster by weakening the wolves around him.

“And apparently my foot in mouth-itis continues.” Clearing his throat, he shoved his long fingers through his hair and gave her a slow grin. “Serafina Andre, on behalf of Mason Clayborne, I bid you welcome to Willow Bend. We have prepared a house for you and your wolves. I will be acting as your liaison. If there is anything you need—anything—you tell me, and I’ll see it taken care of.”
Long, Heather. Bayou Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend Book 5) (pp. 53-54). Heather Long. Kindle Edition.

I couldn’t believe Diesel’s audacity, or for that matter Alexis storming in, between Mason and him. A hold your breath moment for sure even before the first summit meeting.

Serafina comes on to Linc pretty strong, but he fights his attraction for the sake of the summit. That is until he can’t.

After the matings in the previous book, I can’t help but wonder if Mason already knew Linc and Sera would become mates.

I did quite a bit of giggling, held my breath more than once, I even sniffled a few times. Yet another book I couldn’t put down until I turned the last page.

SEALs for Summer! SEAL with A Past – SEALs of Coronado Book 5

SEAL with a Past
SEALs of Coronado Book 5
By
Paige Tyler

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

His past came knocking…

The last person Navy SEAL Dalton Jennings standing at his door was the woman who dumped him five years ago without any explanation. Nothing! Now she’s back, and the secret she reveals is enough to bring Dalton to his knees. Someone has kidnapped their daughter—a child he never knew existed—and he will have to break every SEAL code he’s sworn to uphold and steal government property to find his little girl.

And offered a whole new future…

Kimber Grant has put off this meeting for five years. Cowardly, yes, but how do you tell the man you deserted he has a child? Not to mention Kimber never stopped loving Dalton. Now she’s desperate for his help. After all, who better to carry out a convert mission than a SEAL? The kidnappers want a computer chip developed by her boss for the Dept. of Defense, and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. Including Kimber.

When she’s taken, Dalton realizes he’s got two girls who have his heart—Kimber always has. And he’ll be damned if greed is going to take either away from him now that he’s got them back.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Okay just an observation here, if you don’t want a relationship don’t take time off. It seems in all these books, these guys finally get some down time and they end up with someone coming into their lives to change it forever.

That’s okay though. In this one Dalton gets more than just a visit from his past, he finds out he has a daughter. A daughter who’s been kidnapped, the ransom computer chips made by the company Kimber, his ex, works for.

“Something tells me getting these chips is more complicated than walking into your office, picking them up, then walking out, huh?” Holden asked.

Kimber nodded. “JASCO Technologies designs integrated circuits and software routines for a lot of different applications. Everything from video games, satellites, and self-driving cars to classified Department of Defense programs. The chips they want are in the secure side of our facility and there are mountains of barriers between it and the areas I normally have access to. I tried to tell the man who called me that they had the wrong person. That there was no way I could get what they wanted—”

“But they didn’t care,” Dalton finished for her.

“No.” Kimber looked so defeated and hopeless that it tore his heart out. “They told me to figure out a way and gave me three days to do it or…or they’ll kill our daughter.”

Dalton stared down at the photo of his daughter, his heart beginning to pound. They’d given Kimber three days. Assuming the clock had started ticking when they’d grabbed Emma, that left them less than forty-eight hours to make this happen.

“And you have no idea who these people are?” Wes asked. “You didn’t recognize the man’s voice?”

She shook her head, another tear running down her cheek. “I don’t even know what kind of chips they are. They just gave me a product ID number, which is how we track components in the facility. The only people who know exactly what the chips do is the CEO of the company, a few of the top security people, and the engineers who built it.”

“Have you told any of them about the kidnapping?” Holden asked. “Or called the cops?”

Kimber shook her head again. “They warned me not to. I was afraid that if I did, they’d hurt Emma.”

“Good thing you didn’t,” Dalton said. “If you mentioned it to JASCO, their first concern would be securing the chips. And if you told the police, the first thing they would have done was tell the company. By the time everyone went through all of their protocols and official procedures, the kidnappers would kill Emma.”

Kimber winced and Dalton immediately cursed himself for saying the words out loud. “Which means the only choice I have is to get the chips for them.”

Dalton frowned. “Even if you could get your hands on the chips, you have to know they’re almost certainly going to kill you and Emma the moment they have what they want, right?”

“I know, which is why I came to you.” She looked up at him, her beautiful brown eyes pleading. “I can’t steal those chips or save Emma by myself. I need help, Dalton, and you’re the only person I know who can pull something like this off. You have every reason in the world to say no, but I’m begging you to say yes. Please.”
Tyler, Paige. SEAL with a Past (SEALs of Coronado Book 5) (Kindle Locations 338-359). Kindle Edition.

Dalton’s teammates, Wes and Holden, aren’t going to let him do this alone. So they all start planning their mission. First get the chips, then rescue Emma.

A renewal of a spark, plenty of suspense, and a few laughs to round it all up.

Claimed by the Lawman – Lawmen of Wyoming Book 4 by Rhonda Lee Carver

Claimed by the Lawman
Lawmen of Wyoming Book 4
By
Rhonda Lee Carver

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

He won’t stop until he claims what is his…

Years have passed since Tyler Posey last saw Kace Cade. Fifteen years ago, he was a relationship-shy boy with deep dimples who stole her heart right out of her chest. When an opportunity came knocking she went in search of her dreams, but destiny brought her back home to Bohannan, Wyoming—and to Kace who is no longer shy or a boy. In fact, he turned into quite the man.

Being Sheriff had its ups and downs, but Kace liked the challenge. Although he considered his life on track, there was something missing—and her name was Tyler. Not a day had gone by that he hadn’t thought about her, wondered if he’d made the right choice in letting her go.

Now that he had a second chance at loving Tyler, he had to make things right by helping her find closure in her sister’s death. Ruled a suicide, Tyler never believed that could be possible, and neither did Kace, not after new clues came to light.

When secrets and truth start to unfold, and Tyler’s safety is in danger, Kace will need to find the answers before trouble finds Tyler.

The biggest question, who is branding people like they’re cattle? And why? The answers could be where they least expect them…

Sheriff Kace Cade lost his heart years ago to Tyler Posey. He wanted forever but she wanted the lights of Broadway. Now she’s back home with an agenda, re-open her sister’s suicide case. The problem is getting Kace to listen to her, he’s been avoiding her very successfully.

This is a favorite scene.

Kace stepped out of his office, gun aimed at the floor as he glanced across the shadowed room. Seeing a silhouette in the cell, he growled. What the hell?He switched on the overhead light and had to blink twice to make sure what he was seeing was real and not just leftovers from a dream. Sure enough. He wasn’t alone. “What the h*** are you doing?” He shoved his gun into the waist of his jeans and scrubbed the sleep from his eyes.

The petite brunette, the one who’d caused him lots of grief time and again, stood in the center of the cell, one palm on her slanted hip and the keys to the jail dangling from the hook of her finger. She wasn’t laughing otherwise he’d think this was a joke. They’d tipped enough cattle and egged enough bridges in the past that he could see how she might find this funny. He’d grown up though and he wasn’t in the mood for any funny business.

“Answer me, Tyler. What in blue skies are you doing in my jail?” He planted his palms on his hips as he took in the image before him. From her wavy, shoulder-length hair, across the bare skin exposed in the off-the shoulder white blouse, down the length of her long, tanned legs to the tops of her cowgirl boots. She looked just like she had fifteen years ago when she made his world turn. How was it possible that she hadn’t changed a bit? Not one wrinkle. Not a damn thing to prove that she’d aged. How was it possible that even now he felt a familiar tension and a stitch in his heart. Hell-to-the-no. This couldn’t happen. He wouldn’t let it happen.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” She lowered the keys and that flared hip tilted west.

“It looks like you’ve gone and lost your mind. Now get out of my cell,” he growled.
Excerpt from author

I have to say she was quite creative in getting his attention. I was giggling a bit when Kace found her in his jail cell.

Both Kace and Tyler are stubborn and letting the past color the present. The one thing they’re lacking is real communication. Understandable as teenagers, but not now they’re adults.

Tension racks up as evidence in Suzy’s death is discovered to be missing. When Kace starts questioning the former sheriff things start getting interesting.

A fire, an attack on Tyler leave no doubt they’re on the right path. Kace has to ensure her safety even as the heat between them hits inferno.

Fast paced, with plenty of fluctuating emotions, suspense and heat.
