Zola Carver has worked her entire life to get where she is—working as an assistant district attorney. She doesn’t have time for threats from a presumed terrorist group.

Mike Dorsen has made a life for himself, moving from foster care, to a master’s in biology, to the SEALs, and finally the FBI. When he gets an assignment from a clandestine faction of the CIA while on vacation, the last person he expects to have in his care is his high school girlfriend, Zola.

Unanswered questions haunt the childhood sweethearts as they reconnect. Their love has never faded, but will secrets held for over a decade tear them apart a second time?

While Zola and Mike run from a terrorist group intent on eliminating Zola, they must find their way back into each other’s hearts as easily as they found their way back into bed.

I totally got distracted by reading this awesome series. So much so that I didn’t stop to review them all.  With Silver Seals coming in the not so distant future, I thought I’d re-read and finish reviewing these now.

Mike Dorsen is the former SEAL Commander Lambert taps for this latest threat. He is on vacation from the FBI after a long and tedious investigation.

Zola is an Assistant DA who has put several terrorists behind bars for life. Her life has been threatened repeatedly but she has no clue about them. Her father, Senator Carver asked for her to be protected as these threats escalate. She also has history with Mike that goes back to when they were just kids.

Mike won’t trust anyone else with her protection and he hasn’t forgotten the gift she gave him all those years ago. He also hasn’t forgiven himself for cutting everything off.

This is a favorite scene after he convinces her to leave with him.

“I’m in the middle of a case,” she pointed out, her voice holding far less conviction than a minute ago.

“And I’m under the impression your boss, the district attorney, has been informed of your situation and is prepared to deal with your temporary absence from the office with the understanding you will continue to work remotely and check in twice daily. I got us a burner phone, and you can use my secure computer. You’ll need to leave yours behind in case they’re bugged.”

Mike had done his homework. He’d studied studied her file cover to cover. He’d spoken with Lambert early that morning and then again on his way to her condo.

Zola closed her eyes as she took another sip of her coffee. Finally, she set it down, seemingly resigned. “Fine. What’s the plan?”

Without flinching, he spoke. “I have a vacation home I’ve been renting for the month. We could return there if you’d like, or if you have another destination in mind, I’ll let go of my rental and we can make other plans.”

“Is there another?” he teased, forcing a small smile.

She narrowed her gaze. “It’s just that it’s February. And it’s cold. You chose a beach property in the Northeast? Why not Florida or San Diego?”

Mike shrugged. “I don’t mind the cold. And I’m not the sort of person who needs to surf or lie in the sun. I just wanted peace and quiet for a month or two before taking my next assignment.”

“How long did that last?”

“Four days.”

She winced. “Shit. Bummer.”

“Is it?” He lifted a brow. The way he saw it currently, there was every possibility this working vacation wouldn’t suck at all. He was going to spend countless days with a woman he once loved more than himself. Unless she had undergone a drastic personality change, he intended to enjoy every moment of her company.

A slow smile spread across Zola’s face. “Jury’s still out on that one.”
Jameson, Becca. Saving Zola (Sleeper SEALs Book 4) (pp. 32-33). Becca Jameson Publishing. Kindle Edition.

There is plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom. These two have to come to terms with the past as well as their future, even though they are constantly on the run to evade the bad guys.

I loved that his go to contact is a former SEAL I happen to love, Tex (from Susan Stoker’s worlds). Even though Mike has Lambert and the CIA behind him, Tex always seems to get the right information a lot faster.

Fast paced, action packed and family drama with lots of sizzle to have you turning the pages.
