When things go bad, in Michael’s world things go horribly, terrifyingly bad.

It’s been a year since hardened Navy SEAL Michael Stanton walked away from his career. He never thought to go back, but then his former commander calls with the news that an old friend was murdered while undercover – and he needs Michael’s help.

Knowing the next dead body might be his, Michael takes his friend’s place at the home of a terrorist. His official mission is to find all he can to bring the man’s operation down. His personal mission is to find out who murdered his friend.

Mercy got the job as a maid that her sister had last held – just before she disappeared. With the police lacking leads and interest, Mercy decides it’s up to her to find out what happened. Inside the huge home, she meets Michael and becomes immediately suspicious … and immediately attracted.

When they collide in the worst way possible, she realizes he’s not who he seems either.

Can they each find the truth about their objectives and about themselves? Or will the terrorist get wind of the traitors in his midst and take care of them before they can take care of him?

Each story in this multi-author branded series is a standalone novel and the series can be read in any order.

Two people with primarily the same objective, to find who killed someone they cared about. In Michael’s case it’s his former teammate, in Mercy’s it’s her sister. The thing they have in common is the employer’s home.

Mercy with some misguided logic thinks that getting the job her sister had would give her answers the police haven’t.

For Michael it’s finding the reason who executed Sammy, and why the maid was involved.

This is a favorite scene when Mercy and Michael meet up in the rain, and he tries to warn her off.

“Do you want a ride back?”

She shook her head instinctively.

He gave a disgusted snort. “Yes, you do. You’re soaked to the skin. If you want to keep your job, you can’t afford to get sick.”

For a brief moment she thought about that being a lovely way to get out of her job. Obviously they wouldn’t keep her if she was sick. Not these people. A person who worked for them was just a number, and more numbers were easily found. She put a hand on the door handle and opened it, then hesitated.

He shook his head and said, “I’m not worried about the seats getting wet. Hop in, and let’s get you back to dry off.”

Without making a comment, she scrambled into the front seat and closed the door. Reaching for the seat belt, she buckled in. He pulled back onto the pavement of the deserted road.

“What are you doing out here anyway?”

“Getting some fresh air and leaving the oppression behind,” she said quietly. He shot her a curious glance.

“Is it that bad?” She nodded. “Yes, it is.”

“Time for a new job?” She stared at the gray skies, the rain now running heavily down the window, and muttered, “I don’t know.”

“Why did you take your sister’s place?”

She gasped. “What are you talking about?”

The look in his eyes made her realize he was no fool. She didn’t know what his role in this business was, but it was obvious he wouldn’t take any excuses.

She stared at her fingers for a long moment, then said, “My sister was murdered. I was hoping I could find out something about her last days. They don’t even have her belongings anymore.”

“Besides the utmost stupidity of your actions, did you ask the police for her belongings?”

She nodded and explained, “The detective said they hadn’t received anything of hers, but they did have Sammy’s belongings delivered by the estate. The detective did say he’d contact me if they found out anything new, but I haven’t heard from him yet.”

On that thought, she pulled out her phone from her pocket and checked for messages, but again there were none. But then, who else would contact her? Her mother was gone, now her sister too. Mercy only wanted to hear from the detective. Of course she wasn’t even on his priority list.

“And, if your sister was murdered, what makes you think you’d find any information here?” “It’s where she lived, where she worked. And maybe where she had a boyfriend, but I don’t know about that yet.” She looked at him. “You’re replacing a man who was murdered too.”

He nodded. “I know. But I didn’t have anything to do with either of the murders.”

“Neither did I.”

They came up to the gates of the estate, which were still open. He drove through and around to the back entrance to let her out. “Make sure you watch your back.”

She had the door open when she understood the gist of his words. She turned back to him. “Meaning?”

“Meaning, with two dead, a third won’t make any difference.”

With his cryptic words ringing in her ears, she hopped out and slammed the truck door. She didn’t know who he was, but he certainly didn’t appear to fit the role of whatever he’d taken on here.

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Most Lone Wolves have a story–a pack they left behind, a love they lost, or worse, one they buried. Some leave their packs to roam because they crave freedom, and independence. Some leave because in their hearts, they can’t bear to stay. Some leave because they see no way to go back…

Enforcer John Nelson has pulled double duty for months, keeping an eye on the Lone Wolves who are his charges as well as those that once answered to Margo Montgomery. More of a loner than most, he doesn’t mind going months at a time without seeing another Enforcer as was his typical pattern or at least it was until the formation of the Three Rivers pack disrupted lives everywhere. Now he must divide his time between watching the upstarts and checking on his charges while working with the other Enforcers to anticipate the next move by the Russian Volchitsa. No Enforcer expected to find themselves among the hunted, but when they target the one wolf he can tolerate, John defies orders to go after her.

Hadley Sexton is a bit of a wild card even for an Enforcer, and she loves being unpredictable. More of a mother hen than she likes to admit, she keeps an eye on her Lone Wolves, and treats them more like family than charges…but when three Enforcers are brutally murdered over the course of three weeks, Hadley discovers someone has been shadowing her trail and they aren’t alone. It is a dangerous game with a brutal enemy, one willing to kill the wolves she’s sworn to protect to draw her out.

For Hadley, John will break every rule, but will he be in time?

review-fall-cornucopia

This book is packed with action and tension. While the enforcers are gathering up their lone wolves to keep them safe, an enforcer is tortured and killed. As they are trying to figure out the next move, the Volchitsa make another attempt at Mason’s mate Alexa.

Discovering their technology is how they are finding them, Julian orders their phones destroyed.

They haven’t heard from Hadley and John is worried especially after interrogating the Volchitsa involved in that attack. Ordered to guard Alexa, John isn’t happy. He wants to find Hadley. Fortunately since Hadley was once Willow Bend, Mason agrees with him and sends him off.

This is a favorite scene when he finds her in the middle of a fight.

They were hunting.

Arriving at the cabin, finally, she took a peek inside one of the windows. It was two rooms, both visible from the window she chosen. There was only one wolf inside— her eyes, ears, and nose all told her the same thing.

Fine, she didn’t know how much time she had left, but she had to make quick work of him and set a trap for the other two.

With quiet steps, she crossed the porch then knocked really hard.

As soon as she heard his feet closing on the door, she waited until the door handle began to turn before she slammed inward. The door cut into his face, and knocked him backward. The wolf roared as he staggered backward, blood gushing from his nose. She continued her forward motion, striking rapidly at his damaged face, then slamming her fist upward in an uppercut that took him clean off his feet. He crashed to the floor, unconscious.

Dropping on top of him, she gripped the sides of his face then snapped his neck.

She had a broken knuckle, thanks to the effort. Bastard was a big fellow, and it took effort on her part to drag his happy ass out the back door. They had a storm shelter out back, an old root cellar. She dumped the body inside, then shut the doors.

Returning to the house, she searched. It didn’t look like they’d been there long, though they’d helped themselves to what dry goods she’d stored there.

They’d also searched it, quite thoroughly, including shredding the bed, chairs, and even the sofa. She wasn’t sure what the hell they were looking for. Not that anything was ever stored at this place, but she put it out of her mind for now. Time to figure it out later. Within twenty minutes, she had her trap ready to spring and settled back onto the hill above the cabin.

This time, she had her hunting rifle.

As soon as the vehicle stopped, the male exited and Hadley didn’t waste her shot. She put a bullet right between his eyes. The back of his head blew off, and he collapsed. She switched her target to the tires on the car, taking out front and back wheels before the woman could get the vehicle started again.

The woman didn’t disappoint. As soon as the car proved unwieldy, she shoved herself out, hit the ground and rolled. Hadley set the rifle aside then rose to face her.

The Russian witch tracked her in moments, then lunged toward her with a fierce snarl on her face. Hadley met her, and they struck tooth and claw. The woman jerked her hair and tried to flip her, but Hadley was an Enforcer. She’d trained for moments like these. She raked the wolf’s face and drew blood.

A shadow fell over them, and the wolf was hauled off of her. The audible sound of the wolf’s back cracking, followed by the snap of her neck, infuriated Hadley. Just like that, her potential prisoner was dead and thrown to impact against the side of a tree.

Hadley snarled and came to her knees, then met John’s intemperate gaze. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

He frowned, then blinked. “I was saving your life.”

Dammit.
Heather Long. Thunder Wolf (Kindle Locations 1753-1774). Heather Long.

While Hadley was pissed he stopped her from being able to interrogate the wolf. John did have an alternate location for them to retreat to.

The house where Julian has them hole up is his, and we get a peek at the Chief Enforcer’s life. Some very interesting information here.

We get to see Dallas in this one, we first saw her in Snow Wolf, and this encounter with the two enforcers is enlightening and puzzling at the same time.

Lots of surprises, plenty of action and the heat between John and Hadley is white hot!

Off to read one of my absolute favorites, the next in this series Ghost Wolf.

review-fall-cornucopia

Connor Evans has some decisions to make while he is on leave visiting his father. The two of them often butt heads and he has decided to go relax with a drink. It’s at a cozy bar and grill he sees Sloane, but he’s still debating whether to approach when she leaves with her companions.

Sloane notice the hunk of a man ogling her from the bar, she just wasn’t a one night stand kind of girl and her confidence with the opposite sex was nil since her fiancé broke up with her. Leaving was the best course of action.

Fate had another idea, and a car accident has him assist them. This is a favorite scene as he drops Sloane at the hospital to check on her friends.

“You’re a lawyer?”

“Yeah, I’m a corporate attorney.”

Impressive. “Where’d you go to school?”

“Harvard.” Was that a little reluctance he heard?

“I went directly into the Navy from high school. Took some college classes online, but deployments interfere and I haven’t finished yet.”

“You could try again. You’re never too old to learn.”

She was right. He’d learned technical things for the SEALs that also had applications in other industries. And if he retired, he could go back to school and do whatever he wanted.

Clearly fishing for a change of subject, she said, “I think this vehicle may be cleaner than my apartment back home.”

He chuckled. “My Dad’s a little OCD about his ride.”

“What’s he going to say about it being damaged?”

“Nothing’s so damaged it can’t be repaired, Sloane. He’ll be relieved to know no one was seriously injured. It’s just a truck.”

A sign for the hospital came up on the left, and he turned off the parkway onto a side road leading directly to the hospital. He parked in the lot as close to the emergency room as possible, shut off the engine, and held the truck keys in his hand, but didn’t make a move to exit the vehicle.

“I’d like to see you while you’re here, Sloane, if you’re interested. I’ve been out of the country for the past six months in a place as unwelcoming as it gets, bivouacked with a bunch of loud, smelly guys. You get hungry for the sound of a woman’s voice, the sweet scent of her perfume and—other things.”

She was silent for so long he thought she was looking for a way to say thanks, but no thanks.

“Walk me to the door,” she said, soft and breathy.

Her velvety voice tripped him over into a full-fledged arousal. “Sure.” He slid carefully out of the truck and went around to open her door and give her a hand down.

As they strolled across the parking lot to the entrance, her fingers curled around his bicep, and he automatically bent his elbow.

She handed him the shopping bag and retrieved her cell from her purse. “What’s your cell number?”

He rattled it off, and she typed it into her phone. His phone signaled a text had arrived.

She took the shopping bag from him, rose on tiptoe, and brushed his cheek with a kiss, her breath warm against his skin. “Thanks for the lift, Connor.” She turned and stepped on the mat so the automatic door slid open.

“You’re welcome.” He tugged his phone free and read the message. Tomorrow night, 7:00, at the restaurant where we almost met.

He typed I’ll be there and sent the text.

She paused in the door, phone in hand, to look back at him. “What do you do in the Navy?”

She’d already agreed to go out with him, so he didn’t have to worry that she was interested because of what he did. And for some reason he didn’t want to have to bullshit her by saying he was a diver. “I’m a SEAL.”

She laughed. Which was the last thing he expected.

“I should have known.” Flashing him one last smile, she strode into the hospital.
Reasor, Teresa. Hot SEAL, Rusty Nail (SEALs In Paradise ) (Kindle Locations 180-207). Teresa Reasor. Kindle Edition.

A slow, heated build to this relationship as her friends return home. A challenge to do things she’s never done before has these two smoldering for more.

The sharing of secrets adds to the building trust, and an interesting twist when Sloane’s ex shows up. All topped off by Connor getting called up.

I loved the slow build romance, the suspense surrounding Sloane’s ex’s return to work at her firm plus the anger and heat that surrounds Connor and Slone’s reunion after his deployment. All this and more had me turning the pages.

I really have to go back and read more of Teresa’s SEALs. I have five of the seven books in her SEAL Team Heartbreakers, but I don’t think I’ve read them all.

review-fall-cornucopia

As I read these, I truly wonder why I didn’t read them all when I bought them. I am loving the way these Alpha male wolves pretty much get hit over the head with the emotions of finding ‘The One’.

This book opens with a bang as Landry Cooper waits in line at the bank to cash the check Jayden gave him instead of cash on their bet. In front of him is Everly Danu a beautiful woman who instigates a conversation with him as they wait in the line from hell. Even with the instant attraction he feels, he still catches the about to happen bank robbery.

This is a favorite scene after Landry finishes with his report to IA.

“Hey, you’re still here!” a familiar voice said from behind her.

Everly turned around to see Landry walking over to join them, the corners of his sexy lips edging into a smile.

“I thought you’d already left,” he said.

She smiled. “I ran into your teammates, and they let me hang out with them until you got done. I wanted to make sure you really were okay before I left.”

As Landry came to a stop in front of her, she was suddenly reminded how big and muscular he was. He loomed over her by nearly a foot. She almost laughed as she had a vision of climbing up his body to kiss him. Not that she minded. Something told her it would be worth it.

He grinned. “The wound was just a scratch. The paramedics didn’t even bother with it.”

She found that hard to believe considering the amount of blood on his shirt. She opened her mouth to say so, but suddenly, she found herself tongue-tied as a delicious scent filled her nose. At first, she thought he was wearing a nice cologne. But she immediately dismissed that idea. She had four brothers she’d bought a lot of cologne for over the years, and Landry didn’t smell like any of those. No, this scent was all his, and it was more intoxicating than any cologne, that was for sure. She didn’t realize how good until she leaned in closer to get a whiff. If she could figure out how to put it in a bottle and sell it, she’d be rich.

Landry lifted a brow. He was probably wondering why she was standing there breathing him in like some kind of weirdo.

“Um,” she managed, trying to gather her thoughts. What had she been going to say? For the life of her, she couldn’t remember. So she said the first thing that came to mind.

“You never told me where you were taking me for dinner. I wanted to know should wear for our date.”

Landry gazed down at her for a long moment, a slight smile at his lips, as if he knew how off kilter he had her—and that he enjoyed the fact.

“To tell the truth, I hadn’t really picked a place yet,” he said. “I thought I’d ask if you had a favorite restaurant, or a favorite food, then go from there.”

She wasn’t fooled for a second. Landry knew she was seriously attracted to him, but she appreciated the fact that he didn’t let the knowledge go to his head. A lot of other men would have assumed that she’d go wherever they wanted. It was nice to know Landry was ready to make their date all about her. Still, she had to wonder how far he would be willing to go with that.

“You sure you’re okay with me picking the restaurant?” she asked. “You strike me as the basic meat-and-potato type. Aren’t you worried I’ll pick some kind of girlie place with fondue pots and bean sprouts?”

He chuckled, a rich, warm sound that rumbled from his big, broad chest. “Are you saying you’re the fondue and bean sprout kind of girl?”

She gave him a coy smile. What was it about him that made her want to flirt so outrageously? “Maybe.”

Landry stepped closer, and for a split second she thought he was going to kiss her right here in the middle of a crime scene with all his SWAT teammates standing around them. She went up on her tiptoes, more than ready, but he stopped just short, leaving her hanging.

“Then it’s settled,” he said. “I think there’s a Melting Pot over on Five Point in Arlington. Would that work?”

She laughed softly and dropped back down off her toes. She might as well stop testing him. It was clear he’d take her anywhere she wanted to go. “I’m sure it’s a nice place, but I was just kidding about that stuff. I don’t like fondue or bean sprouts. But if you know a place that serves authentic French food, that would be perfect.”

“French, huh?” He considered that. “I think I have the perfect restaurant in mind. Tomorrow night good for you?”

“Perfect,” she said, although she didn’t know how she could ever wait that long. “I’m looking forward to it.”

“Me too.” He leaned in again, putting his mouth close to her. “Especially since you did promise me it’d be the best date of my life.”
Tyler, Paige. To Love a Wolf (SWAT Book 4) (pp. 35-36). Sourcebooks. Kindle Edition.

Everly is stunned as all this goes down and waits with Landry’s teammates for him to finish up. Landry had quite a bit of explaining to do and ends up on leave with therapy involved. This gives him a lot of time to spend with Everly and these two are explosive.

Things go really well for them until he meets her family, at first all friendly and then everything blows up.

I find myself very curious about the therapist, while she doesn’t admit to knowing what he is, I have a feeling she knows.

Fast paced, family drama lots of new information on werewolves and plenty of sizzling heat.

I can’t wait to see who finds his ‘One’ next.

Lt. Commander Keegan MacDonald has to face the fact his injury meant he was washed up as a SEAL, but who was he without the teams as part of his life? Even though he loved bikes, being a grease monkey at his uncle’s motorcycle shop sure wasn’t providing that answer.

When he gets a call for a special mission from the commander of a spec ops government contractor group, Keegan grabs onto the lifeline with both hands. Not only would he be helping find an intel leak which could jeopardize his teammates in the field, he might be able to find his own purpose during the mission too.

Keegan goes undercover at the Lily Pad, an off-base strip club where the government believes the special access intel is being passed, and quickly narrows down his suspects. The list includes Jules Lawson, a sexy, mouthy waitress who seems to have a hidden agenda.

When that agenda meshes with his own, and he finds out they are on the same team, but at opposite ends of the field, can they put together a partnership? Or will her inexperience and thirst for vengeance get them both killed?

Better yet, when the mission creeps into something much bigger than an intel leak, could he count on the beautiful agent to have his six while they saved the world? Or would she redefine his world in the process?

review-fall-cornucopia

Oh my, SEALs everywhere! I totally got distracted by reading this awesome series. So much so that I didn’t stop to review them all. With Silver Seals coming in the not so distant future, I thought I’d re-read and finish reviewing these now.

In this one we pit our hero Keegan against what might be one of his own. As with most organizations, there has been a lack of communication and he finds that the waitress where he’s gone under cover has more skills than the normal everyday worker.

Jules on the other hand has much to prove. She joined the FBI after she lost her parents to the attack on 9/11. Now she wants to be a member of their counter-terrorism unit.

So far she hasn’t been successful, and having Keegan show up just pisses her off. Here is a favorite scene after their first shift together and Keegan finds out she’s a Fed.

“You’re not a good liar, Agent Lawson, but I’m glad we’re on the same team. Taking you off of my suspect list will make things easier.”

Blinding anger and knee-melting relief fought for pole position inside her as she released her pistol and zipped up her bag. She leaned over his plate to put her nose near his.

Your suspect list? This is my investigation, asshole. Just stand down and stay out of my way. Tell whoever you work for that I have this under control.” Her blinding anger now included her new boss for not letting her know another agent was being sent in.

“If you haven’t closed your investigation in three months, Natasha, the odds are you won’t. That’s probably why God sent me here,” he said, giving her a cocky grin that turned her on and pissed her off at the same time.

Now, he was making fun of her? Comparing her to a cartoon secret agent? And God? He really did think a lot of himself.

“You aren’t as badass as you seem to think you are, Boris. I had you pegged as some kind of operator when you walked through the door at the bar.” She stood to cross her arms over her chest. “Your little show to get hired didn’t impress or fool me one bit,” she said, although now, it really did, even though she didn’t want it to.

“I saved you from being mauled by a drunk—so you should be thanking me,” he said, picking up his fork.

“If you didn’t notice, I don’t need your help. I had things in hand,” she shot back, jerking her bag up to put the strap on her shoulder.

“No, it looked to me like the drunk had things firmly in hand, Natasha.” He winked at her before he shoveled a forkful of scrambled eggs into his mouth and she ground her teeth.

“Enjoy your breakfast, MacDonald. I hope you choke,” she hissed.

“Good luck with your research, Lawson. Maybe we can compare notes tomorrow night to see who gets more info.” The corner of his mouth curled and the bastard winked at her again, before he took a big bite out of his toast.

Jules left her breakfast behind to go home and text Brand to find out exactly who this asshole was and what he was doing in the middle of her investigation.

He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had aimed at him, but nothing would come out. It was like she’d robbed him of the ability to speak. Shooting her wasn’t an option, though. And the idea of arresting her didn’t make him feel any better.

There’s a new gang of criminals in town who are organized and ruthless in the extreme. When Eric Becker, along with the rest of the Dallas SWAT team, ends up in the middle of a shootout, he immediately senses werewolves-a lot of them. Turns out, the new bad guys are a pack of wolf shifters.

In a spray of gunfire, Becker comes face-to-face with the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen. Becker does the logical thing. He hides her and leaves the scene with the rest of his team.

Jayna Winston has no idea why that SWAT guy helped her, but she’s glad he did. Ever since she and her pack mates got mixed up with those Eastern European mobsters, everything had pretty much fallen apart.

So what’s a street-savvy thief like Jayna going to do with a hot alpha-male wolf who’s a police officer?

review-fall-cornucopia

Now that Gage and Xander have found ‘The One’ for them, the entire team seems to be looking around every corner for theirs. Looking is one thing but actually acknowledging that such an attraction exists is still another.

In this book Eric Becker does things way out of character for a SWAT officer. To start with, in the middle of a surprising fire fight with thieves that are wolves, he hides a woman who had been pointing a gun at him in a crate. With Cooper’s help he then disguises her scent with perfume.

This is a favorite scene as he hides the female thief.

He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had aimed at him, but nothing would come out. It was like she’d robbed him of the ability to speak. But he had to get the weapon away from her. If she pulled the trigger, he’d be dead. Shooting her wasn’t an option though, and the idea of arresting her didn’t make him feel any better.

Becker didn’t consider whether what he was about to do was smart but simply lowered his weapon and took his finger off the trigger, letting his M4 hang loosely against his chest by the strap over his shoulder. Then he slowly lifted both hands as if in surrender. He’d done it to put her at ease, but her heart pounded even harder. Her eyes darted left and right, her ponytail swinging from side to side. And while she kept her weapon trained on him, at least her finger wasn’t wrapped around the trigger now.

Becker pulled up the black ski mask hiding his face, then switched off his mic. When he finally managed to find his voice, he didn’t want his teammates listening in.

“Relax and put down the gun,” he said, keeping his voice soft and calm even though gunfire echoed in the rest of the warehouse. “We can work this out. No one else has to get hurt.”

She didn’t say anything or lower her weapon. She didn’t run either. That was progress, he supposed.

He was wondering if he should try a different tack when Xander’s voice came across loud and clear over the radio in his ear. “They’re bolting, so be careful. The few left are going to fight like caged rats.”

Becker didn’t have to ask if the woman heard what Xander said. She was a werewolf like him, which meant she had the same exceptional hearing. If he needed further confirmation, the look of terror on her face would have been it. He couldn’t blame her; her pack had just abandoned her.

Off to the right, the sounds of gunfire increased, and so did the howls. Boots thudded on the concrete floor, heading in their direction.

She looked around again, trying to see every direction at once. Her grip on her weapon tightened, and she swung it at whoever was coming their way.

Oh hell, she’s going to start shooting.

Swearing under his breath, Becker closed the distance between them and ripped the MP5 out of her hands, tossing it aside. She bared her fangs in a snarl, but before she could get the sound out, he slapped a hand over her mouth.

“Trust me,” he said in her ear.

Wrapping his free arm around her, he picked her up and half carried, half dragged her over to the nearest crate. Ignoring her struggles, he ripped the top off the crate, praying there’d be enough room inside. It was empty except for a rolled up painting.

“Thank you, Lord,” he breathed.

Taking his hand away from her mouth, he swung her up in his arms and dumped her inside as gently as he could. She hit the bottom of the crate with an oomph, then immediately sat up.

“What are you doing?” she demanded in a voice so soft and silky it almost brought him to his knees.

He shook off the hold her voice had on him and reached for the top to the crate. “Stay here until it’s safe to leave.”

Ignoring her startled look, he pushed her down with one hand and pulled the lid into place with the other.

Shit, that was close.

Blowing out a breath, he turned to find Cooper standing there staring at him like he’d lost his ever-loving mind.

Cooper switched off his mic with a flick of his thumb before shoving up his ski mask, a scowl on his face. “What the hell are you doing?”

Becker’s mind whirled like an out-of-control windmill. How the hell could he explain what Cooper had seen?

He couldn’t. He only hoped his friend would give him the benefit of the doubt. “Trust me. I have to do this.”

Cooper opened his mouth, then closed it again. His dark eyes went to the crate, his jaw flexing. Becker tensed, ready to stop his friend if it looked like he was going to rip off the lid. But instead, Cooper gave him a long, thoughtful look, then turned and walked over to another stack of boxes.

Becker frowned as Cooper picked up one of the cardboard boxes and carried it back over to the crate where the female werewolf was hiding. Cooper ripped open the box and pulled out a big fancy decanter of what looked like whiskey. Taking off the top, he dumped the whole thing over the crate before reaching for another and doing the same thing. Becker couldn’t miss the overpowering smell of jasmine and buttercups.

Not whiskey. Perfume.

Cooper was covering her scent. Why the hell hadn’t he thought of that?

Becker grabbed two more bottles and poured it on the crate. When they were done, Cooper shoved the box of empty perfume bottles out of the way, then glared at Becker.

“You better know what the hell you’re doing,” he muttered before striding off.

Giving the crate one more quick look, Becker slung his weapon off his shoulder and hurried to catch up to Cooper. They reached the end of the aisle just in time to see Xander finishing off an enemy werewolf.

Xander shook his head. “Damn, these things are psychotic. It’s like they’d rather die than give themselves up.” His gaze went to the section of warehouse where Becker and Cooper had been, and made a face. “Jeez, it reeks down there. Is it all clear?”

Becker nodded. “No one down there.”

“Good,” Xander said. “Let’s wrap this up then.”

Becker waited until his squad leader turned and led the way to the other end of the warehouse before following.

Okay, you beautiful werewolf. I’ve done my part. The rest is up to you.
