When a matchmaker gets toasted at the after party, she finds the perfect wolf for her in the most unlikely of places. Of course, the last thing he wants is a mate, much less a matchmaking one.

Hugo Ferrar is one busy Hound. Acting as a messenger for his alpha, he spends more time out of New Orleans than in it. Home in the Big Easy for only three days, Hugo has a strict schedule to adhere to—celebrate his brother’s mating, eat and drink his fill, and find a lovely wolf at the masquerade for a fling.

Lesley-Anne Saucier is drunk on life and one too many hurricanes. Her masquerade is just the kind of party Delta Crescent needs, especially since they are celebrating the mating of a popular couple—a match she helped to make. Avoiding her eager fans, Lesley-Anne is bowled over by a wolf in the garden—a stunning, male, perfect for her. The moon is full, the masquerade is in full swing, can the matchmaker find her own perfect mate?

review-fall-cornucopia

While this is actually set at Valentine’s Day, it is a Masquerade so hypothetically it goes with Halloween as well. Okay so maybe not, but this is where the book fell in my re-read. *SMILE*

With the packs currently in turmoil this was a welcome reprive for everyone in the Delta Crescent pack.

A Voodoo Valentine’s Ball celebrating the mating of Christopher and Rachel Ferrar done up as only their Alpha Serafina could do. One of the guests celebrating the mating of is Lesley-Anne Saucier the pack matchmaker. Now it’s not what you might think. The matchmaker only scents whether a couple is a possible mate match. It’s really up to them to make the choice.

As this celebration floats around her Lesley-Anne is approached by a male. Not just any male but by his scent a possible mate for her. That is until he removes his mask.

Hugo Ferrar the brother of the groom is one of Sarina’s Hounds. The last thing Lesley-Anne wants is a mate who is never around and is in constant danger.

It seems Hugo is very opinionated about matchmakers and the fact his brother had gone to one. This is a favorite scene.

“It’s a pity that sometimes mates can’t recognize each other right off. It’s not always mate at first sight.” He’d aroused her interest with that statement; he felt the weight of her focus shift to him.

“Most often it just simply requires a knowledge. Wolves are human, too, of course, and we’re very busy. In times like these, it can be even harder to see the promise or the potential that’s there.”

“Yeah, but to go to a matchmaker? Really?” He stared at his brother and shook his head. “You have to be pretty desperate to ask someone else to find your mate for you.”

“Is that what you think a matchmaker does?” A thin, hard layer edged her words.

“I have no idea what a matchmaker does. I’ve never needed one, nor would I ever seek one. The very idea that some wolf takes one look at me, gets my scent, and then goes willy-nilly through the pack to find the other wolf that matches it before returning to tell me whom they’ve chosen— that’s bullshit.” He couldn’t keep the derision out of his voice.

Matchmakers might be a part of Delta Crescent and dated back to their founding, but that was like saying the fortunetellers in the quarter were the only way to get a bead on what was coming down the pike. They had enough voodoo in the pack.

“Only a fool asks an outsider for assistance in finding who is meant for them. Now, Christopher and Rachel would’ve found each other eventually. They just needed to be patient. Besides, the matchmaker still has to identify the scent and then see if she can match it to another wolf. It’s only one factor and a gamble at that. You can’t tell who your mate is going to be until you get to know them. None of it is fait accompli.”

“So, you think the matchmaker is what? A jester for the pack? A false hope to those around her?”

“I think she’s just like any other curiosity in New Orleans. Here to please the tourists.”

“Well, that’s utterly fascinating, Mr. Ferrar. Thank you for your insight.”

“Lesley-Anne,” Serafina called as she came to the door with Lincoln quick in close attendance. “There you are. This party is every bit as much you for you as it is for the happy couple. Get in here and dance.”

Lesley-Anne? Lesley-Anne Saucier? Hugo’s hackles rose.

The woman straightened and inclined her head toward their alpha. “I was just getting some air and a lesson on the tomfoolery of having a matchmaker in the pack from Mr. Ferrar here.”

Oh shit.

“He’s been quite illuminating on how utterly touristy my talents are. Isn’t it fascinating?” She turned and met his gaze. Amidst the laughter in her eyes, he glimpsed a hint of hurt and his wolf snarled. “It’s been fascinating talking to you Mr. Ferrar. Good evening.” With that, she whirled then stalked away, her skirt flowing behind her. She paused to give Serafina kiss on the cheek and to receive one in return before disappearing into the rest of the party.
Heather Long. His Moonstruck Wolf: Wolves of Willow Bend 10.5 (Kindle Locations 288-311). Heather Long.

Hugo will have to do more than just apologize for putting his foot in his mouth if he is to claim his mate.

Sweet, snarky, fun and sizzling hot. You won’t want to put this one down.

Dakota James’s life has become the stuff of nightmares. The leader of the Ansar al-Shari’a terrorist group has become obsessed with her, determined to take her as his wife. On the run, she’ll have to pin her hopes on the retired SEAL charged with finding and stopping Aziz Fourati before he can carry out plans to bomb more US airports.

Recently recruited to join a sleeper SEAL team tasked with fighting terrorism on US soil, Slade “Cutter” Cutsinger, with the help of some Special Forces friends, has located the one woman who can identify the deadly Ansar al-Shari’a leader. That was the easy part. Keeping her safe proves more difficult than anyone ever imagined.

review-fall-cornucopia

Susan Stoker has joined up with many of my favorite authors to bring the Sleeper SEALs to life. I totally got distracted by reading this awesome series. So much so that I didn’t stop to review them all. With Silver Seals coming in the not so distant future, I thought I’d re-read and finish reviewing these now.

This first book brings to light a fear many of us have. That of domestic terrorists.

Dakota survives a domestic terror attack because the leader is attracted to her. She manages to escape him but is now on the run.

Recruited by the CIA to be a sleeper SEAL, Cutter’s first assignment is to find Dakota, get a description of the terrorist and protect her while they flush him out. His first stop on this journey is to her father. Skeptical as to his intent her father puts him through quite the test before revealing what he knows. Which isn’t very much at all.

With the aid of the postcards from her dad and some from Tex Slade finally locates her.

This is a favorite scene as he tries to convince her he’s not a bad guy.

Dakota nodded and cursed under her breath. She didn’t want to take her eyes from Slade’s, but she couldn’t find the stupid handle.

“I told you last night, but my name is Slade Cutsinger. I’m a retired Navy SEAL and I’m here to keep you safe.”

“Uh huh,” Dakota murmured, only partly listening. She found the handle, finally, and pulled, planning on getting the hell away from the huge man currently glaring at her.

“I talked to your dad the other day. I saw the postcards. It’s how I found you.”

Dakota froze with one foot on the hard dirt outside her vehicle and spun back around to face Slade. “He has nothing to do with this. Leave him alone,” she whispered shakily.

“I know he doesn’t,” Slade reassured her. “The postcards were a good idea, by the way. Your dad was sure you were doing okay, as was your intention. Unfortunately, a few people you gave them to got lazy and instead of waiting until they got home, mailed them from Vegas.”

“Darn,” Dakota said. She figured she might as well listen to what Slade had to say. Since he knew about the postcards, he most likely had seen her dad. She might be stupid, but she wasn’t getting scary vibes from Slade, so hopefully her dad was in his house secure in the knowledge his daughter was okay… even if she was on the run from a terrorist.

“I know all about the bombing in the airport, Dakota,” Slade said softly, bringing her out of her musings.

Dakota’s stomach cramped. He’d used her real name.

Of course he had. If he’d seen her dad, he had to know who she really was.

“I know you were the only survivor. I know that you saw Aziz Fourati, and I also know that you’re the only one in the world right now who can identify him. He also knows this, and not only wants to make sure you keep that information to yourself, but wants you for his own. To be his wife.”

Dakota shut her car door and shivered. Damn, it was cold. She tried to clear her foggy morning brain. She never functioned well before she’d had a cup of coffee. “His name is Aziz?”

She’d surprised him. Slade’s eyebrows went up and he tilted his head as he asked, “You didn’t know his name?”

“No. He never said it. What’s his last name again?” She was trying really hard not to freak out. Oh, she was leaving today for sure, but she needed to know what Slade knew before she bolted. Information was power.

“Fourati.”

“That sounds foreign,” Dakota observed, proud of herself for how calm she sounded.

“It is. Best guess is that he’s Tunisian.”

“Tunisian?” she asked, really confused now.

“Yeah, Tunisian. The country between Algeria and Libya in Northern Africa.”

“I know where Tunisia is,” Dakota answered grumpily. “I just…” She paused for a moment, realizing that she should definitely not be talking to Slade about anything. She didn’t know him. He could be one of Aziz Fourati’s goons. She was happy to have a name for the guy who was making her life a living hell, but she needed to be smart… no matter how much her intuition was screaming that she could trust the man next to her.

Slade leaned over and grabbed something off the floor at his feet. It was a metal travel cup. He offered it to her without a word.

Dakota stared at the cup, then back at him. If he thought she was going to drink something he gave her, he was insane. “No thank you,” she said politely.

“You don’t know what it is,” Slade said evenly.

“I don’t know who you are,” she returned a bit snarkily. “The only reason I’m still sitting in here right now is because it’s cold outside, and there’s nowhere for me to go. I’m sure if you wanted to, you could catch me in two-point-three seconds and slit my throat. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I’d like to get as much information as I can about why my life is in the crapper before I die.”

“You don’t swear.”

“What?”

“You don’t swear,” he repeated patiently.

Dakota shrugged. “I’m an elementary school principal. Or I was. I can’t exactly go around saying fuck, shit, and damn all the time.”

“True. I like it.”

“I can die happy,” Dakota grumped.

His voice lowered further, if that was even possible, and as much as she hated it, goosebumps broke out on her arms at his tone. “I’m one of the good guys, Dakota,” he told her. “The short story is that the government knows Fourati is behind the airport bombing and they want to make sure he’s punished for what he did. But now he’s gathering soldiers online. Trying to convert them to his cause. He wants to do it again, but on a grander scale this time.”

“I’m aware,” Dakota whispered, and she was. Aziz had bragged about his plans while she and the other hostages had huddled together, scared out of their minds in the airport.

“Then you know how important it is to stop him.”

“I almost died that day.” Dakota told him something he probably already knew.

He confirmed it by saying simply, “I know.”

“You can’t just show up out of the blue, tell me you’ve been looking for me, and expect me to trust you are who you say you are.”

“Why not?”

“What do you mean, why not?” Dakota asked, confused.

He continued to hold the cup out to her, but said, “I told you that I’d been to see your dad. I saw the postcards. I am a retired Navy SEAL. I’m not Tunisian and couldn’t pass for an Arabic terrorist on a good day. If I had cell reception, I’d call one of my best friends in the world and let him vouch for me. But that will have to wait until we’re back in civilization. I’m one of the good guys, Dakota. Swear to God.”

“That’s what a terrorist would say,” she informed him, not swayed in the least. “Besides, calling someone in order to vouch for your trustworthiness isn’t going to make me believe them.”

“Take the cup,” Slade ordered gently.

Without thought, Dakota obeyed his urgent words. She reached out and took the stainless-steel travel mug from him. Her fingers brushed his, and she swore she could feel the heat from his fingers shoot up her arm.

But no, it wasn’t his fingers that caused the heat, it was the mug. It was warm. She looked up in question.

“I stopped by the restaurant before coming here and asked Pat to warm up the contents for me.” He looked sheepish for a moment before saying, “I’m sure it doesn’t taste the best after two days, but your dad told me what you liked. He said you’d know I was telling the truth about talking to him if I brought this.”

Dakota slowly and carefully turned the plastic lid— and immediately the smell of peppermint wafted up to her nose. She closed her eyes in ecstasy and brought the mug closer to her face. She inhaled the delicious scent of her absolute favorite coffee in the world, and thought about all the times she and her dad had shared a cup of coffee like this while sitting in his small living room. She fought the tears that sprang to her eyes.

“And this,” Slade said softly, interrupting the memory.

Dakota opened her eyes and saw he was holding out a small white paper bag. She knew what was inside without having to look.

“A maple-iced donut,” she said.

“That’s right. Although I’m afraid it’s probably a bit worse for wear after being in my saddlebag on the back of my bike.”

Dakota reached out and snagged the bag from his fingertips, being careful not to touch him this time, and peered inside. Sure enough, the donut was mushed on one side and the maple icing was mostly stuck to the bag rather than on the pastry itself, but again, the memories that assailed her were almost overwhelming.

“You really did go see my dad.”

“I did.”

“And you swear you didn’t hurt him?”

Slade made a weird sound and Dakota’s gaze went to his. He looked pissed now. “No, I didn’t hurt him,” Slade growled. “I’m exactly who I’ve told you I am.”
Stoker, Susan; Sisters, Suspense. Protecting Dakota (Sleeper SEALs Book 1) (Kindle Locations 814-891). Kindle Edition.

In spite of all that Slade still had a ways go to gain her trust.

From here it is attraction, action and so much more. I love Dakota’s strength and persistence brought forth even more by her friendship with Caroline.

Don’t miss this book, it’s a new favorite. I can’t wait to re-read what the other authors contributed.

review-fall-cornucopia

Now that Gage has found his ‘One’ the others on the team have hope that maybe some day they will find their ‘One’ as well.

Heading to a meeting at headquarters, Xander and Gage only expect Deputy Chief Mason to be present. They know nothing good can come from this meeting when the other attendees are Chief Curtis accompanied by Hayes from HR and James a department lawyer.

Their implications of Gage’s Team being sexist since there are no women on the team, is followed by ludicrous suggestions of unqualified females to rectify that fact.

Sometimes having really great hearing sucked.

Khaki was fielding questions from her new teammates about her background—where was she from, did she have any family, how long had she been a cop, how long had she been a werewolf—when she heard Riggs tell Sergeant Dixon that he didn’t want her on his team.

Crap. And here she thought her first meeting with her supervisor had gone well.

She thought it had gone better than that. Dixon had told her about Riggs when he’d picked her up from the airport, filling her in on his background and training methods. He’d sounded like the real deal, and someone she could definitely learn from. As soon as Dixon had introduced her to the man, she’d known he was someone special. She couldn’t really say why, but all of her newly discovered werewolf senses told her that she and Corporal Riggs were going to mesh perfectly. He exuded confidence, yet he didn’t come off as arrogant or cocky. Not like that jackass ex-boyfriend of hers.

It probably didn’t hurt that he was so damn attractive. In a room full of Adonis-class hunks, Xander Riggs stood head and shoulders above the rest. He wasn’t necessarily taller or better built. And it wasn’t that he was more handsome than the other guys. It was simply that the combination of dark hair, chocolate-brown eyes, and kissable lips really did something for her.

Then there was his scent.

The moment she’d set foot in the compound, she realized that the unique scent she’d picked up from Dixon back in Lakefront wasn’t actually that unique. It turned out that what she’d smelled was werewolf scent. She confirmed that when she walked into the training room and was assaulted with sixteen different versions of that same smell. Each one was subtly different, which meant she’d be able to identify each man on the team easily from now on, but in general, all of them smelled like a werewolf.

But then Riggs had walked into the training room, and snap! The scent coming off him was so tantalizing she’d almost leaned forward to get a better sniff. She controlled herself—barely. Shoving your nose into your new supervisor’s neck and snuffling at him like a pig probably wasn’t the kind of first impression she wanted to make.

She’d still been appreciating every subtle nuance of her squad leader’s scent when they’d shaken hands. And when he’d smiled…she’d gotten all warm and fuzzy fast.

She was just thinking her biggest problem was going to be not crushing on her new squad leader—a problem she was more than ready to live with—when she’d heard Riggs say she wouldn’t work on his team.

Worse, everybody else in the room heard it too. Most of them tried to hide it, but she saw the surprise on their faces as they heard Riggs saying anything and everything to get out of having her on his squad. Becker looked pissed when Riggs tried to pin the blame on him, saying he would be so distracted by her presence that he’d get himself killed.

She turned back to the guys, wishing she could crawl off somewhere to hide.
Tyler, Paige. Wolf Trouble (SWAT Book 2) (Kindle Locations 561-586). Sourcebooks. Kindle Edition.

I’m not sure who I felt worse for, Xander or Khaki. They both felt the extreme attraction, avoiding it would only make things worse.

Hiding the truth is never a good thing and makes for some very interesting moments as these too start seeing each other outside of work hours.

A tense, intriguing, emotional and action packed read! Moving on to the next one since the next book in the series comes out the end of this month.

review-fall-cornucopia

I am really loving this multi author series. In this one Nicholas ‘Nikko’ Falcone agrees to help out a co-worker’s sister by attending a destination wedding with her. He needs a vacation after tax season and this trip is all expenses paid.

Dr. Jennifer Pierce wasn’t looking forward to this wedding. He ex would be there with his pregnant wife. The one he got pregnant while he was engaged to her. Jenn was really hoping the guy her twin brother is sending her will be the perfect date, she couldn’t face this event alone.

These two have an attraction neither saw coming, which is fortunate since they would be portraying lovers on this trip.

A favorite scene is when they board the plane and encounter Jenn’s ex for the first time.

“Jennifer.”

She jerked toward her name and looked at her ex. He was dressed in khakis, a green polo shirt, and a puzzled expression on his face. Had his hair always been that thin? And his face…had it always looked so sallow? For some reason, she didn’t remember his lips being so thin and his cheeks so puffy.

Her stomach twisted with nerves as she faced her past for the first time. “Lamar. Sherice.” And that was as nice as she planned to be.

“Hi, Jennifer,” Sherice said, shoving her hand under Lamar’s elbow so she could wrap her arm around his.

Jennifer wanted to laugh. The woman was staking her claim as if Jennifer might try to lure him back.

“Who’s your, um, friend?” Lamar asked.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” She looked down at their fingers intertwined. “This is Nicholas Falcone. Sweetheart, this is Lamar Johns and his wife, Sherice.”

Nicholas extended his right hand across Jennifer. “Nice to meet you. Call me Nikko.”

“Hmm,” Lamar said. “I didn’t know you were bringing a date.”

Nicholas chuckled. “A date?” He knocked his shoulder against Jennifer’s. “It’s been a while since we were just dating. What a fun idea. A weeklong date.”

She giggled and almost gagged at that. She never giggled. The sound had the puzzled look on Lamar’s face even more strangled.

“It will be fun. Remember those early days? How nervous I was around you?”

Nicholas chuckled and put his hand over their interlaced fingers. “Like it was yesterday. I’m so glad I hung in.”

“Me, too.”

“Sir, madam,” the airline attendant said. “You two need to find your seats so we can take off.”

Lamar gestured to the two across from Jennifer and Nicholas. “Can we sit here by our friends?”

Nicholas squeezed her hand, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw him shake his head at the attendant. The young lady, as enthralled by Nicholas’s smiled as Jen was, shook her head at Lamar.

“I’m sorry, sir. No. Please take your assigned seats.”

Sherice pulled on Lamar’s arm. “Come on, Lamar. We are in the first row.”

Lamar allowed Sherice to tug him forward, but he scowled over his shoulder.

“I don’t think your ex is happy you have a date,” Nicholas said.

“Yeah, well, breaks my heart.” She leaned on his shoulder. “I remember him being better looking.”

“You can do so much better.” He leaned over and kissed her.

“Okay, you two. Knock it off,” Deloris said from the row in front of them.

“Yeah,” Tony, Deloris’s fiancé, said. “You’re making the rest of us look like slackers.”
D’Alba, Cynthia. Hot SEAL, Cold Beer (SEALs in Paradise) (Kindle Locations 561-583). Riante, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

The teasing playfulness of the interactions between these two eventually comes to a head. I loved the slow build of this relationship and then the heat that reaches white hot.

Plenty of fun with the activities the bride and groom had planned for this week of celebration and an encounter with the ex that had me cheering Nikko on.

Laughter, fun, snark, sizzle and so much more, make this a must read!

blurb-fall-cornucopia

Most Lone Wolves have a story—a pack they left behind, a love they lost, or worse, one they buried. Some leave their packs to roam because they crave freedom, and independence. Some leave because in their hearts, they can’t bear to stay. Some leave because they see no way to go back…

Most wolves will roam at some point in their lives, fledgling adults leave to explore the world while more senior wolves may undertake a journey they always wanted. Many come home again, Mitch Jackson didn’t. He thrilled to living life on the road, first as a roadie for a rock band, traveling from city to city then later as an animal trainer at a circus. He’s had a lot of jobs, and all of them fun. His years as an Enforcer hasn’t curbed his smile, but a rogue invasion of Russian wolves are enough to put a damper on anyone’s party especially when they set their sights on the packs’ more vulnerable members…

Amelia Sullivan couldn’t stay in Willow Bend, not after her sister embraced the life she’d always wanted. It aggravated her that Shiloh’s defiance earned her a free pass from their parents, parents who’d raised them all to reject the idea of going wolf. Having always put their family first, Amelia needs a breather from wolves, their politics, and their play. Taking the first excuse she can to go to a cooking school on the west coast, she flees. The last thing she expected was an order to return home within three months of her getting away. She wasn’t a wolf, she doesn’t have to obey…of course, not following the rules proves even more costly than she can imagine when she finds herself a prisoner and the change she always thought she wanted forced upon her…

Rescuing Amelia seemed a straightforward job until Mitch realizes what they’ve done, then saving her life proves to be the easier task as she undergoes her first transformation far from any alpha. Can a happy go lucky Enforcer find the strength to keep her sane?

review-fall-cornucopia

We first met Mitch although very briefly in ‘Snow Wolf’ when he met Renae in Seattle. Then we got to know him a bit in ‘Wolf on Board’ as he checked in on and then worked with Mimi and Jake. That is the starting point for this book.

Amelia is a Willow Bend human and she’s missing. Mimi was able to track her and identify where she might be held. Now it’s up to Mitch to get her away safely and back home.

Amelia couldn’t stay in Willow Bend, not after her sister Shiloh mated and took the bite. She’s in California taking classes and working, she has no intention of ever returning, and when she’s grabbed she figures it’s over. She’s not a wolf, no one will care that she’s gone.

Mitch finds Amelia in a horrible state, injured and delirious. Unfortunately he has to leave her in a hallway to take out a couple of wolves before he could get her out.

That wasn’t the end of it either, another attack leaves Mitch wounded but he manages to get them to his cabin before he shifted and passed out.

This is a favorite scene when he wakens after multiple healing shifts.

He carried her inside the huge cabin. The ceiling was vaulted all the way up to the second floor with a hand-constructed railing surrounding the loft area. Huge picture windows looked out through the gray rain and fog and she could just barely made out the hint of mountains.

I’m so damn cold.

“I’ll get us upstairs, and we can get you into a hot bath and get those feet cleaned out. We also need to get you out of this clothing and into something warmer.”

If he said so. “I’m not really sure I’m up for a bath right now.”

“You won’t have to do anything. I’ll take care of it all. Once I get you cleaned up, I’ll bandage your feet and get you tucked in. While you get some sleep, I’ll reach out to the pack. Does that sound good?”

“I mean, I don’t have anything to wear. I’m not really sure you should be seeing me naked.”

Another soft chuckle, but he didn’t slow his pace, striding right through the house and up the stairs as though he owned it. On the landing, he made his way past the bedroom—a beautiful bedroom, overlooking the living room area. No privacy whatsoever. From there, he walked over into a bathroom that looked nearly as large as the bedroom itself. There was a huge shower stall and an equally huge tub.

“Oh, it’s claw footed.” The very idea delighted her. They were deeper and longer and she always wanted to take a proper bath in such a tub. She hadn’t showered for so long, how could even stand to be around her? She had to reek.

“Maybe if you put me in, I could take a bath. I’ll just hold on to the side so I don’t drown.”

“Little sister, let’s just make it one thing clear. You’re in pain, and you’re sick. You also need to be clean, and the only person here who can do this is going to be me. So, I’m going to see you naked. I promise I won’t look too closely, except at your injuries. We’re even, as you’ve also seen me naked, so it’s all good. Work to set aside all of society’s polite niceties, and we’ll get this done. Sound good?”

“Not really, but I don’t really feel like I have a choice.”

Another tear slipped out, and she tried to wipe it away with her hand angrily. But her angel stopped, then she realized he was staring at her, and finally she forced her head up to meet his gaze.

“They took away your choices. I’m here to make sure you get them back. You need to be cleaned up. I need to make sure you’re not seriously hurt, and I need to clean out your feet. I can put you in another shirt as soon as we get this off of you, but it will be your choice.”

Wow. He really did have the prettiest eyes. “I believe you. I think I forgot your name, though.” She wanted to cry. She was such a horrible person. He was going to all this trouble for her, and she couldn’t even remember his name.

“My name is Mitch, Amelia, and it’s okay. If you forget it again, I’ll tell you again. Deal?”

She nodded slowly. “I’m really cold, and I really want that bath.”

“Then let’s get you taken care of, shall we?”

For just a few minutes, Amelia promised herself she would do everything he asked and let him take care of her. Then, once he’d finished, she’d go back to being independent, and she’d get away from the wolves. Oddly enough, Mitch was the nicest wolf she’d ever met.

And she wasn’t just saying that because he rescued her from the bad ones. He really did seem nice.

“By the way, there’s mud on the carpet.”

“Don’t worry, there’s always mud on the carpet somewhere…” He set her down in the bathtub. The porcelain was cold against her skin, but all of a sudden warmth began to envelop her.

“Mitch? I think there’s something really wrong with me.”

He let out a deep sigh and said, “I think there is too, little sister. But I’ll take care of you, I promise.” Clinging to that promise, she sank into the hot water.
Heather Long. Shadow Wolf (Kindle Locations 755-787). Heather Long. Kindle Edition.

As Mitch examines her injuries he sees multiple bites. His worst fears are confirmed when he starts cleaning glass out of her feet. Amelia is turning, and he is the only one who can help her.

The storm becomes ice and knocks out the power, with his cellphone gone, and the landline dead, Mitch has no way to contact Julian or Mason. He is on his own to do for Amelia what her Alpha would normally do.

Alone and sheltered, these two discover a lot about each other and things rapidly heat up in more ways than one. While Mitch is pretty sure they’re mates, as an enforcer he can do nothing about it. They had to get off the mountain, and get her to Mason and Willow Bend.

Action, excitement, nail-biting, lots of sizzle and a surprising conclusion. Do not miss this book!

Hungry Like The Wolf
SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team Book 1

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret…they’re a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive-and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn’t sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something…and she’s determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She’s smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she’s getting dangerously close to the truth-and perilously close to his heart…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

With the ‘Summer of SEALs’ done, I needed to read more from Paige Tyler. I realized I had purchased the SWAT series awhile ago and hadn’t started them yet. So I dove in with book one.

I love shifters and a whole SWAT team of Alpha wolves definitely just adds to the love.

Mackenzie Stone has a mission, scoop a story on the SWAT team based on a tip they are doing performance enhancing drugs. Unfortunate all requests for an interview or a ride-along have been refused. So she stakes out their command compound waiting for an opening, either to talk to them or break in and search.

Her break comes when the team heads out and with Zac, her photographer, driving they follow along. Of course Mac gets herself in trouble and ends up in the command van.

This is a favorite scene when the action is done.

“It’s obvious you’ve been snooping around for a story,” he said.

“When your man grabbed me, you mean?” She shrugged. “That was a complete accident. I got turned around and ended up back there.”

He chuckled. “Right. Just like it’s a complete accident that your unmarked news van has been parked outside my SWAT compound for the last two days?”

She tried not to let her surprise show, but failed miserably. Mouth twitching, he turned and switched off the monitors.

How the hell had Dixon made her so easily? She and Zak weren’t that sloppy, were they? Dixon turned off the monitors, then picked up a cloth and wiped down the whiteboard.

“Okay, you caught me,” she said. “But I only resorted to that because the department turned down my request for an interview and a ride-along.”

He stopped wiping and turned to her, his brow raised in a way that did interesting things to her tummy. Damn, the man had quite the smolder. “Most reporters would be able to infer from that answer that they should go after a different story.”

Mac knew it was crazy, but if she didn’t know better, she’d think Dixon was teasing her—if not outright flirting. Well, she could play that game, too. But while she wasn’t above using her feminine wiles to get a story, she needed to make sure she was right about him first.

She moved a little closer. If he backed up, she’d assume she read him wrong and would retreat accordingly. If he didn’t, she might be able to work him a little bit.

Dixon did neither. Instead, he took a step toward her so that they were standing even closer together. She hadn’t realized how big the SWAT officer was until that moment. He towered over her by almost a foot, and his shoulders were nearly twice as wide as she was. She decided she suddenly liked really big men.

Damn, it was going to be hard remembering this guy was the target of her next in-depth investigative article.

“I’ve never been very good at picking up subtle hints.” She gave him her best award-winning smile—the one she used on her editor when she wanted a really juicy story—and moved a fraction of an inch closer. He smelled nice. “I was simply waiting outside the compound so I could talk to you and straighten out the obvious misunderstanding the department had.”

“Of course.” He returned her smile with one of the sexiest grins she’d ever seen. “Because it must have been a mistake. After all, what cop wouldn’t want to talk to the ever-insightful Ms. Mackenzie Stone, right?”

“Exactly.”
Tyler, Paige. Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT Book 1) (pp. 26-28). Sourcebooks. Kindle Edition.

Making a call hoping to get her off any story she might have in mind, Gage invites her to the compound for an interview and then to follow the team around for a couple of days. His reaction to Mac has his team/pack questioning his judgement until one of them brings up ‘The One.’

Plenty of action and suspense as Gage and Mac get steamier. I think this almost melted my kindle with scenes that advance their relationship, but don’t end up between the sheets.

I also like the difference in how the change occurs, not from a bite but a life threatening situation and the right DNA.

I have to see who’s next so I’m off to read book two.
