The cartel had left him hideously scarred inside and out. If he didn’t die from a bullet first, he would die from wanting the beautiful and lethal SpecOps trained woman who was there to protect him.

Salvadorian Vipers 16 have stolen enough nuclear material to level major U.S. city, or start a civil war in Central America.

After ATF agent Marcus Hernandez had been beaten to within an inch of his life, his facial scars and those on the outside of his body are superficial indicators of the ugly pain he carries deep inside. Resigned to a life alone, because who would want to be with monstrous-looking man, he is willing to sacrifice himself to stop the Salvadoran Vipers from starting a civil war in Central America or killing millions in the USA.

As Lady Falcon, Tori Denton kicks ass and takes names, uses men and tosses them away, and lives life to the fullest every day. She’s a highly trained special operator who knows tomorrow is not guaranteed so why bother with a relationship that’s certain to end badly.

In their dangerous hunt for the stolen nuclear warheads, they may find a future worth living for…if they don’t get killed first.

Once again KaLyn Cooper takes us on a journey through some very pretty but also treacherous country.

I love Marcus, he has suffered so much trying to protect Hailey. The ladies of Black Swan had adopted him and took care of him during recovery for one of the many surgeries he’s had to endure so far. Through it all he’s only had eyes for Tori, a former model, he feels was way out of his league even before the Cartel beat him almost to death. Now with all the scars he knows there is no chance for anything but friendship.

Ironically even though he’s ATF he has no clue as to who and what Black Swan is, all he knows is that they work for Homeland Security. until he’s escorting nuclear devices with another agent and the truck driver.

Still not quite knowing, he’s invited to breakfast at Katlin’s, well more like dinner because of the hour, but they had all gotten in around noon and crashed.

It’s going to be a wedding! Harper and Rafe! and Tori and Marcus need dates. Tori asks Marcus I am so thrilled.

This is a favorite scene when Marcus picks her up for the wedding.

Her phone rang, and she snatched it off the counter. She smiled and shivered deep inside when the caller ID showed it was Marcus. Looking at the time, though, she hadn’t expected him for another ten minutes. A shot of cold fear ran through her. What if something had come up at work and he now couldn’t accompany her to the wedding?

“Please tell me you’re not canceling on me.” She didn’t hide the begging in her voice.

Marcus chuckled. “No way in hell would I stand you up for a date. I was just going to tell you that I’m running approximately two minutes late thanks to traffic.”

“Whew.” Tori was truly relieved. “I was so afraid I was going to have to go to this wedding by myself. Have I thanked you for being my plus one?”

“Have I thanked you for being my plus one?” He parlayed back. “I’m looking forward to this date, but I’m also thankful you’re running a few minutes late.” She looked down at her bare feet, makeup strewn across the counter, and she hadn’t put her weapons into a small purse. She still had several things to do.

“I know the front door code changes all the time—”

Tori cut him off. “No worries. I’ll be waiting for you down in the lobby. No need to waste time just to be chivalrous.”

“That’ll work. I’ll see you in seven minutes then.” He sounded excited about their date which just made Tori even more anxious.

“See you then.” She hung up the phone. She was OCD about cleaning up and putting everything away exactly where it had come from. Perhaps it was just good habits she had developed living in and out of a suitcase and on the road. Everything had its place and if you returned it there after each use, you’d find it there when you needed it in a hurry. Also, if it was properly stored, no one could steal it. Lessons she’d learned the hard way on her first photo shoot.

Accustomed to multitasking, Tori slid into her gold strappy high heels while stuffing her small carry gun, lipstick, additional magazine, compact, throwing stars and touchup foundation into the sparkly gold and black bag. She checked her hair one more time then fussed with a small strand the didn’t want to stay in place. Another douse of hairspray tamed the little beast.

She slid on her black watch with gold trim noting the time. Grabbing her necklace and earrings, Tori headed out the door. While waiting for the elevator she poked the Onyx cabochon ear rings surrounded by braided gold into the holes in her ears. On her way down to the lobby, she was able to fasten the matching necklace. By the time the door slid open, she was as ready as she was ever going to be.

Striding across the small lobby to the glass door she watched the dark blue Civic Coupe pull up to the front. Tori smiled when Marcus stepped out of the car to greet her at the door.

Stopping four feet away, he simply stared at her. “You are the most beautiful woman I think I’ve ever seen.”

His honesty made her blush.

“You clean up pretty good yourself.” She closed the distance because she wanted to touch him. Pretending there was something wrong with his tie, she readjusted it. When she lifted her hands, he grabbed one. Turning it over, he kissed her palm.

No man had ever shown her such personal affection. On the other hand, she’d never kept one around long enough for him to really get to know her. Marcus knew her casually, socially, and through discussions they’d had at parties. He’d been a friend for…wow, over two years.

This was new territory for her. She never had male friends until she’d moved to D.C. with her Black Swan team. Hell, she hadn’t had female friends either until their secret training. Now she had lots of both and liked it.

But Marcus was taking her to a different place…friends to lovers. It was exciting and made her nervous at the same time. She rarely thought about the future because sometimes, she wasn’t sure she’d live through the day. Life was to be lived to its fullest, every minute, every hour. For the next several hours, she intended to have a good time with Marcus at their friends’ wedding.

“Are we ready to go?” He didn’t release her hand as he stepped toward the passenger side of the car and opened the door for her.

Tori wanted to melt.
KaLyn Cooper. Unbeatable Love: Lady Falcon (Tori) & Marcus (Kindle Locations 767-772). Kindle Edition.

A friendship that is suddenly burning hotter, will capture your heart. Now even though there’s a wedding, there are also plans in the works to get back the stolen nuclear rods.

There’s a lot of tension in this book, most of it caused by Jack Ashworth. If you’ve been following this series, you’ll remember the hell he put Lady Hawk (Katlin) through. I really wish someone would do something about him, he really gets on my nerves with all his posturing.

I loved all the interactions with CIA Assistant Director Tom Callahan and Commanding Officer of USSOCOM General Lyon, they definitely get it.

We get to meet the rest Black Swan Team 2 in this book and some Deltas too. The Guardian Security guys lend a hand as well as CIA agents Daniel and Santiago. Essentially the gang’s all here. I loved catching up with them all.

I laughed, cried and held my breath as I read this book. Tori and Marcus are a match for sure. He has quite the learning curve going on as well.

Don’t miss this awesome addition to the Black Swan Series.

Winter Blog Review

I needed to get this series because I not only wanted to know more about Tony and Sherrie Alvarez, but also about Shane, Matt and BJ. These guys were all married in the Alvarez Security series, but I didn’t know their stories.

Love’s Taming is Shane’s story and what a story it is. Shane has been deep undercover for two years when things get crazy and he knows he has to wrap things up and get out.

Annie is a veterinarian in a rundown area of Richland. A practice left to her when the original vet passed away from cancer. She even has a small apartment upstairs from the clinic, making it easy when an animal needs to stay overnight and be monitored.

This is a favorite scene when Shane and Annie meet under the most unusual circumstances.

“What happened?”

“I found him like this when I got home. I think he musta’ eaten something he shouldn’t. Been throwin’ up. Don’t know what’s wrong, but I know he needs help. I don’t want him to die.”

Hesitating for a moment trying to decide if she should trust the stranger, she knew she couldn’t let the dog suffer. Skirting around him, she called out as she walked back in the office, “Come on. Bring him in.”

The man followed quickly as though afraid she would change her mind and she shut the door behind him. Walking to the first exam room, she directed him to lay the dog on the table. Pulling back the blanket she began to assess the dog, her focus entirely on the patient in front of her.

While her attention was on the dog, the man was able to watch the vet up close in the bright light of the examination room. Rubbing his hand over his beard, he couldn’t help but stare at the beauty leaning over the table. Her hair was the most unusual color. Not red.

Not blond. Under the florescent lights, it glistened like copper. She was short, much shorter than his six feet, two inches. And tiny. Her small hands were moving over the large animal assessing its condition. As his dog made a snap in pain, he found himself jumping forward to protect her if needed.

Startled by the sudden movement of the stranger, she looked up quickly. Her eyes met his and for the first time, she could see his face clearly in the light. His hair and beard were dark, long, and shaggy framing a face that was both rugged and handsome all at the same time. But his eyes were what captured her attention. Unusually dark, almost black. Staring. Unblinking. At her.

Sucking her lips in again, she glanced at the door, calculating. If he comes after me can I make it to the door? Can I shut it on him if I have to? Damn, I can’t lock it from the other side.

His eyes cut over to the door following the path that hers had taken and he stepped back raising his hands. “I’m not gonna hurt you, I swear. I just wanna help my dog.”

Blushing, she mumbled an apology as she leaned back over her patient.

Shaking his head, he growled, “Don’t apologize, doc. You got a right to be cautious. Makes you smart. You’re a woman alone who let in a stranger. But I swear, I got no other reason to be here except for him.”

Annie spared another glance at the rough man filling up all of the space in the room, then patted the dog. “I need to get x-rays to see what’s going on. I can work up a fee payment for you first.” As the words came out of her mouth, she knew he couldn’t afford to pay for a vet. Another charity case. Jesus, I must be an idiot. I’ll never pay all my bills.

“No need, doc. I can pay.”

Unable to hide her surprise, she looked up at the man, wide-eyed.

Drawing himself up to his full height, towering over her, he cocked his eyebrow. “I can pay. Up front. In cash.”

Her mouth snapped shut as she turned back to the dog. “Fine,” she bit out. Great. I’ve just insulted Mr. Scary.

Grasping the blanket around the dog, she started to pick him up when she was gently shouldered out of the way and the stranger scooped up his dog. “Where to?”

Quickly moving out of the room she led him to the back surgical area where she had her digital x-ray equipment. After settling the dog in position on the table, she began. The radiographs appeared on the computer screen next to the table completely capturing her attention.

“There is definitely something in the intestines,” she said leaning in closer to observe the pictures.

He watched her carefully, waiting to see if recognition would flash across her face. It didn’t. Instead, he noticed her brow furrow as she squinted in concentration.

“I don’t know what he swallowed but we have to do surgery. Those objects won’t pass the way they are.” Leaning in closer to the x-rays, she tried to figure out what they were. Shaking her head, “I can’t tell what he ate. Do you have kids? Is it a kid toy?”

“No,” came the short reply. The voice was right behind her as he had silently moved to see the picture closely.

“Look mister. I’m trying to help but here’s the problem. Your dog has a foreign object in his intestines and he needs surgery. I can’t do it alone and my tech isn’t here. You can take him to Emergi-Vet which is a twenty-four-hour service. It’s about fifteen minutes away.”

“No,” came the same short reply.

Putting her hands on her hips, looking almost straight up into his eyes, she huffed and blew her bangs up in the air. “Can you say anything without growling ‘no’?”

He looked down at her flushed, beautiful face, focusing on her large green eyes, porcelain complexion, and cupid bow mouth. Perfection. Good. Clean. Beautiful. How long has it been since I’ve been around someone like this. Two years? Jesus, seems like fuckin’ forever.

“Well? What’s it going to be?” she said trying to read his facial expression but coming up empty.

Jarred out of his perusal of her, he blinked. “Not taking him anywhere else. You do the surgery.”

“Look mister, I told you, I can’t. My vet tech is gone and I can’t do the surgery and run the anesthesia myself. You have to take him somewhere else.” Turning, she continued, “I’ll call ahead and let them know you’re coming. I know they’re more expensive, but I’ll put in a good word and see what I can do.”

Before she could take a step, her arm was caught in his grasp. Firm, but not painful. Pulled back around to face him her anger won out over her fear. “Take your hands off of me.”

He slowly let go of her arm, keeping his eyes directed onto her. “Sorry, doc. But Sarge needs surgery now and I want you to do it. I’ll help. You tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”

Sarge was whimpering on the table and Annie ran back over. What are you doing? The dog could die if you try this without Suzanne or Leon. But if the man won’t take him somewhere else he’s going to die anyway.

As though reading her thoughts he spoke, this time more softly. “Doc, I’m not here to cause trouble. I trust you and my dog needs you. Please.”

It was the last word that came out of his mouth that caused her to reconsider. It was soft. Pleading. His need speaking.

Sighing deeply, Annie hung her head. “Mister, this is probably going to be a huge mistake. Sarge could die under my hand if we don’t do this right. But, if you’re refusing other treatment, then we can try.”

“That’s all I ask, doc. I trust you,” his voice carried across the room, this time, less gravelly.

Nodding to the sink on the side, she ordered, “Go scrub in.” Looking at his open jacket, which had seen better days, she added, “And ditch the jacket. Scrubs are in the cabinet over there,” she said pointing to a corner closet.

Turning away, she went over to prep Sarge and scrub-in herself. What the hell are you doing? You don’t even know his name? Thinking back on Leon’s words, she tried to remember the last time she did anything spontaneous. Or dangerous. Or out of the ordinary. Well, Leon, you won’t believe this when you come in on Monday!
Jordan, Maryann. Love’s Taming. The Love’s Trilogy Book 1. Kindle Locations (216-272). Kindle Edition.

Things heat up from the moment Sarge is out of surgery. Trust me when I say they get absolutely white hot. These two are explosive.

Things also heat up in the investigation, which also puts Annie in danger. Annie also throws off some heat of her own when she finds out the scary guy with the dog is actually a detective one with blue eyes not brown.

Plenty of hold your breath action, laughter, tears and frankly I’m surprised my kindle isn’t a melted puddle of goo from the sizzle.

Childhood abuse has left her cautious.
She trusts no one. Especially men.
Guarding her emotional and physical scars has been her life’s mission.
She went to her deathbed without ever sharing her secrets with anyone.
Or so she thought.

People have seen her scars.
The horror of that new reality has her reeling.
And worse? She’s been left alone in the care of a man she barely knows.

Grayson’s job is to keep Bianca safe and nurse her to health.

He’s well aware she has secrets.
The welts on her back explain a lot about the private woman.
It’s not a surprise that she doesn’t trust him.
She doesn’t deserve whatever life has dealt her.
He will move mountains to keep her safe and help her heal.
As their friendship grows, he gradually breaks down her walls.
He’d give anything for her to let him in.
But he won’t rush her.
Patience is his best option.

Bianca believes she is too broken to be loved.
Grayson will wait a lifetime to prove her wrong.

The books in this series can be read on their own, but readers will enjoy the Project DEEP series more if they are read in order.

Winter Blog Review

I recommend you read this series in order to get the most out of every book.

With each book in this series, I find myself wondering what could possibly happen next. I love the way things are progressing, from the couples that form to the escalating threat to their safety, to the efforts to preserve the research and keep everyone safe.

Bianca had been abused as a child, and Grayson has been assigned to keep her safe and help her through the revival process.

There is, by necessity, overlap between this book and the previous, Reviving Graham. This is a favorite scene after Grayson decides they need to leave the safe house.

Grayson’s phone rang in his pocket, and he leaned to one side to pull it out and handed it to Bianca.

“Unknown number. How shocking,” she murmured as she connected it. “Hello?”

“Bianca?”

“Yes. Grayson is with me.” She put it on speaker and held it between them. “It’s Dade,” she said to Grayson.

“Where are you?” Dade asked. “Sounds like you’re in a car.”

“We are,” Bianca responded. “Grayson got nervous. We left the safe house.”

“Well, if your hairs were standing on end, it wasn’t without reason. We’ve had a problem.”

“What happened?” Grayson asked, glancing at Bianca.

“Graham was on a deadline to get all the data transferred from the mainframe in the bunker to external hard drives, and he got caught. There was a confrontation. Long story, but two men were killed in the incident, Graham and Kate have left the bunker. They are heading to Montana.”

Grayson gripped the steering wheel tighter. “Shit. Is everyone else okay?”

“Yes. But the list of who I’m inclined to trust is growing shorter by the moment.”

“You think someone was tipped off that Graham was downloading data?”

“I’m certain of it.”

“Fuck. Are you sure you trust your guy on the inside? Spencer?”

“Yeah. It wasn’t him. In fact he’s on the run. He’s heading this way now.”

“Jesus.” Grayson ran a hand through his hair and glanced at a white-faced Bianca.

“Blair and I are at what I’m now calling the staging area in Montana. We’re on a ranch. I’ll send you the details. Members of our team are trickling in, but with Graham and Kate under so much suspicion, I’m afraid they are a hot target right now.

“I need them here, but I’m going to suggest you hold off for a while until I’m certain they weren’t followed. The last thing we want is for half our team to be blindsided all in one place. And the longer we can go without the government finding out I’m alive, the better.”

“Do you think we’re a target?” Grayson asked.

“No. Not a word about either of you right now. Blue Cell is focused on Graham and Kate. They have also surmised that many of us are organized and together, so their effort has been in hunting us down. Their goal seems to involve keeping us all dispersed, so their attention is on that. Anyone who hasn’t come into the fold is safe for now.”

“Gotcha. We’ll lay low somewhere else for a while. Keep us apprised.”

“Will do. Be careful. Watch your backs. If you have a place to go that’s not very close to Montana, then go there.” The call disconnected.

Bianca was still holding the phone between them. She hadn’t said a word in a while, and her hand was shaking.

He reached for her with his right hand, wrapped his fingers around the palm holding his cell, and lowered her arm to the console. “You okay?”

She jerked her gaze to his. “Peachy. You?”

He took the next exit and pulled into a gas station. They still had half a tank, but he wanted to keep it full, and he wanted to look Bianca in the eye without driving them into a ditch.

While the gas pumped, he climbed back into the driver’s seat and grabbed her hand again. He had a new plan. They were out of options. “We’ll go to my parents’ farm.”

She flinched. “In Nebraska? You think that’s safe? Won’t we just be putting them in danger too?”

“I’ve thought of that, but I feel confident we weren’t followed. I truly don’t believe anyone has known where we were since we left the clinic. There is no paper trail. My parents live on a farm with enough land that we can park this car in the barn, hidden, and easily stay on their property without a single person knowing. I’m thinking it’s not a bad option since we’re nearly out of money and Dade thinks Blue Cell is focused on Graham and Kate. We can hole up in Nebraska, at least for a while. When we get nervous or hear something new, we move on.”

She swallowed. “Okay, but what if you’re wrong? What if someone tracks us down and your family becomes victims in this crazy, high-stakes game we’re playing without knowing the rules or the name of the game?”

He gripped her hand tighter and sighed. “I hope we’re both simply feeling paranoid. In any case, if things change, we can borrow money from my parents. Enough for a few nights in hotels. We need to stay under the radar. If anyone recognizes us, we’re toast.”

“Who the hell is going to recognize us?”

He winced. “Anyone in the country. Our faces have been plastered on every news channel for almost a year.”

“Shit. I didn’t think of that.” She started shaking a moment later, tugging her hand free of his grip and crossing her arms as if she were cold. Her gaze darted to the passenger window.

He climbed out of the car, removed the gas pump, and jogged to the window to pay the bill. Less than thirty seconds later he was back. When he shut the door and turned toward her, he found her stiff and wincing. Then it dawned on him. “Your family…” The words slipped out softly. She had told him she didn’t want anyone in her family to know she was alive.

Maybe not in those words, but he’d heard her loud and clear.

It hadn’t occurred to him at the time to tell her there was no way anyone in her life wasn’t aware of her pending reanimation, and it was probably for the best. If she’d known this fact sooner, she would have lost her shit that much sooner.

What happened to Bianca Serrano to make her wish no one knew she was alive?

The answer scared the hell out of him.
Becca Jameson. Reviving Bianca (Kindle Locations 721-766). Becca Jameson Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Things are good at Grayson’s home and as Bianca further recovers, their relationship starts heating up. A major feat for Bianca. Unfortunately ‘Blue Cell’ has other ideas and sets them on the run again.

Fast-paced drama, emotional and steamy this book will keep you on your toes.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Winter Blog Review

This is an awesome start to a new series. All the knight siblings are attractive and all of them have some sort of issue. In this book we concentrate on Sebastian, but the book also hits on Ethan, the oldest Knight brother.

Sebastian is the womanizer, the partier, he has been like this for a long time. Never wanting to settle down, since the one woman he wanted, was sent away from him when they were just teenagers. The family had been trying to reach him and were really upset he had his phone off. The news they imparted was devastating.

Ethan’s wife Mandy was dead, cause of death, an overdose of narcotics. She had an addiction to pain killers that everyone but Sebastian knew about.

Ashley Easton, is the daughter of one of their father’s wives. She was sent off to a European boarding school after being caught making out with Sebastian. Ethan was the only one to keep up with her after their parents split, her education abroad was included in the divorce settlement and now she lived and worked in England. When Parker calls she immediately makes arrangements to return to New York, worried about Ethan. He was the one who always stepped up when his own father failed, he deserves someone to step up for him.

It appears there are a lot of complications arising with Mandy’s death, the biggest, the Keystone project. A contract that could ruin their company if the problem isn’t resolved. Mandy had been in charge of the Keystone project, working out of Knight Time Technology’s San Francisco office. The issue is with the locks, a technology the Knight’s were known for. There is also money missing and with Ethan not knowing where Mandy got the money for her drugs, he doesn’t think this is a coincidence.

Sebastian didn’t appreciate being summoned by Ethan, but he strode into his office anyway, surprised to find Ashley already there.

Her soft hair fell over her shoulders, her beautiful profile relaxed. Because she didn’t know he was there.

“What’s with the summons?” he asked his brother.

She swung around, obviously surprised to see him.

“You, sit, too,” Ethan said. The fact that he was used to Ethan’s demanding personality didn’t lessen the annoyance he felt. “I don’t appreciate the commands,” he muttered, but sat in a chair anyway.

“Ethan? What’s going on?” Ashley asked, sounding confused.

“I’m still waiting on Parker, but while I have you two, I have something to say.”

Ashley leaned forward in her seat. Sebastian leaned back, waiting.

“You’re both driving me fucking insane.” Ethan held up a hand before they could speak. “I know you both mean well, I know you’re worried about me, but I can’t take the hovering.”

He glanced at Sebastian. “I don’t need my hand held at every meeting. I don’t need my mail delivered by you, as an excuse to check up on me every damned day.” He turned to Ashley. “And I’m sick to death of cranberry muffins.”

“I could make blueberry,” she offered, tongue in cheek.

Sebastian grinned. She met his gaze, her soft lips lifting as they shared their first joint chuckle in what felt like forever, and it felt good.

But he hadn’t realized he’d been smothering his brother. He’d just been worried about him, as Ethan had said.

“I need space.” Ethan looked at Ashley. “Do you plan on going back to London soon?” he asked, his voice gentle.

Sebastian held his breath, waiting for an answer, not ready for her to leave. Not when he hadn’t had a chance to spend time with her, to make headway, showing her the man he really was.

“Honestly? I’m not ready to leave you alone,” she said to Ethan, and Sebastian blew out a relieved breath. “I know you have your family around you, but I feel like it’s so soon, and I want to be here for you.”

His expression softened at her admission. “You know I appreciate everything. Both of you.”

“Sorry I’m late,” Parker interrupted, joining them then, walking in without knocking.

Sebastian wondered why they were all gathered here as Ethan acknowledged Parker with a nod.

“Now that we’re all here, I need to let you know about what’s going on with our San Francisco office and Keystone project on which they’ve been working.”

Sebastian knew they’d won a bid to provide the high-tech locks on all the doors for Keystone, a multimillion-dollar defense contractor, building a new, secure headquarters building in northern California. As far as Sebastian knew, things had been progressing as planned.

Ethan glanced at Sebastian, letting him know without words that he was deliberately including him, trusting him, making up for what he hadn’t done when it came to Mandy.

Sebastian swallowed hard. “What’s going on?”

“Of all the stupid shit that can go wrong, the electronic door locks aren’t closing securely. The prototypes worked fine, but once installed, they’re failing. One piece in the automation is screwing with the entire thing. The whole campus relies on that security. We need to throw money at the problem to determine what’s going wrong, but there’s no extra money to be found. And we all know Mandy had been running that project.”

For six months, Mandy had gone back and forth from New York to California, even living there part time while the project got up and running. She and Ethan had been bicoastal, but it seemed to work for them.

“What I don’t know is where Mandy got the money for her drugs. Now there’s money missing from the Keystone project. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I was blind because I needed to trust her or I had no marriage. And I missed the fact that something was going on right under my nose.” Ethan set his jaw tight, clearly tense and pissed off.

“Shit,” Parker muttered. “What’s the plan?”

Ethan met Parker’s gaze. “I’m going to stay on the software people.” The keys weren’t physical, per se, but used via a smartphone or special key configured to wirelessly perform the opening and closing process. But there were also mechanical parts, and those had been purchased via the California office.

“I want you and Ashley to head out to San Francisco,” Ethan continued. “Figure out which parts aren’t working in the damn locks. Ashley, you can dig through accounting and Sebastian, you can calm Stephan Romano, who’s losing his fucking mind. We can’t afford to lose this project. Our reputation will take a hit, and financially it’ll kill us.”

“You want me to look at the books?” she asked, sounding surprised. “I thought after I turned down your offer to come work here after I graduated, you handed things over to your friend’s firm.”

Sebastian’s gaze grew wide. Ethan had offered her a job? She could have been back here much sooner? Damn.

“I don’t hold grudges,” he told her. “Besides, I need you. I don’t want anyone getting wind of the fact that we’re having problems with such a lucrative project. I trust you,” he said gruffly.

She nodded in understanding. “Of course I’ll help.”

“When do we have to leave?” Parker asked.

Parker, who’d never been meant to have a desk job. He’d been a skiing phenomenon, destined for the Olympics until he tore his ACL on a downhill run and did permanent damage to his knee. Sebastian often did a double take when he walked in here and saw his middle brother in a suit and tie. Parker was a man more comfortable in the outdoors than in the office. He knew the pain his brother felt at being forced into a role he’d never wanted.

Sebastian looked from Ashley to Parker, not surprised that Ethan had chosen Parker to go out and handle Romano. Sebastian had begun to realize they’d put him on deals that were already secure, the lack of trust permeating through his placements in ways he hadn’t recognized until now.

“I’ll go,” Sebastian said, recognizing that this was his chance. The opportunity to show his family he could step up and handle a crisis. Be the man they could rely on.

Beside him, he felt more than saw Ashley stiffen. Going away with him was not in her plans, he thought wryly. But he focused on Ethan, meeting his brother’s gaze, not blinking, not wavering.

He wanted this. Not only because it meant spending time with Ashley but because he needed to prove to everyone, including himself, that he could be trusted.

Ethan’s gaze slid to Parker, who merely shrugged. “Whatever you decide is fine with me.”

Parker’s easygoing demeanor stemmed not only from the fact that he was the middle child, who found it easy to let the chaos of four siblings go on around him, but from the fact that he’d come into this business as a last resort and was willing to do what he was told.

Ethan studied Sebastian, thinking about who knew what, holding Sebastian’s fate in his hand, before nodding. “Fine. You two leave tomorrow.”

Sebastian blew out the breath he’d been holding, before turning to Ashley with what was a deliberately sexy grin on his face. This might be business and it was important, but so was she. And he had no issues mixing business with a bit of pleasure.
Carly Phillips. Take Me Again (Kindle Locations 532-591). Carly Phillips.

Sebastian is determined not only to solve the business problem bit also win back Ashley’s heart. Something that won’t be easy.

I really loved the way this book keeps you guessing, the investigation, the love story, the heat all intertwine into a page turning read.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Knight Siblings.

A quick fling can sure heat up a cowgirl’s life

A devastating discovery ends Marti Jenkins’ engagement. Now she’s ready to play the field for a while. A sidestep away from an angry rattlesnake lands her in the office of Whispering Springs’ new orthopedic doctor, Dr. Eli Boone. And yeah, he’s as hot as she’s been told.

Dr. Eli Boone is only in town for six months covering his friend’s practice and then it’s back to New York City and into the societal world he’s lives. A widower for seven years, he’s not looking for a replacement wife, but he wouldn’t say no to a quick tumble in the sheets with the right woman.

Due to ridiculous challenge he never should have accepted, Eli has to get over his discomfort around horses and learn to ride before he leaves town. He turns to the one person who can help him win the bet, Marti Jenkins.

As he learns to ride a horse, Marti does a little riding of her own…and she doesn’t need a horse.

Winter Blog Review

Marti Jenkins meets the doctor all the women in town are talking about when she twists her ankle in a gopher hole after shooting a snake.

Dr. Eli Boone is in Whispering Springs to cover his friend Hank Kelly while he’s off doing some advanced training. The Clinic Hank runs is pretty awesome with everything an orthopedic patient could need, physical therapy, x-ray, and more.

When he finds Marti has torn ligament he puts her in an air cast telling her to keep off it.

She’s going to do her best but with her parents heading of on a much deserved vacation, she may not get as much off her feet time.

With her parents finally off, she does have an event to attend. The hospital auxiliary was started by her grandmother and this fundraiser was very important to them and her family. In a nice turn of events the Doctor asks her to attend with him.

This is a favorite scene.

Climbing from his SUV, he immediately noticed the aroma of sage and fir that gave the air a freshly clean scent. He drew in a deep breath. His mother paid a fortune to housekeepers to get this type of fresh smell in the family home.

Horses in the corral nickered as they studied the new arrival, probably judging him inadequate. In the distance, a barn that appeared freshly painted stood with entrance doors securely closed but a smaller one in the loft stood open.

On the other side of the house, a large pasture that looked to go on forever held various groupings of brown cows. Most of the cattle had settled down in the grass for the night. An owl hooted from somewhere. A light breeze made the leaves rustle. Peaceful but not quiet.

Turning back to the horses, he studied them. They were beautiful creatures, no doubt about that. However, the thought of being on the back of one of them sent chills down his spine. The horrible memories of summer camp came rushing back. More than once, he found himself flat on his back after falling off. The counselors had assured him that the horse had only taken a couple of steps, but Eli called bullshit. That horse had bucked him off. Of course, falling off a horse who basically wasn’t moving made Eli the target oflots of cruel jokes.

The next summer, he convinced his parents to send him to band camp, not that he was great with his saxophone. But at least he wasn’t the butt of all the jokes.

By high school, most of the geekiness stayed in his past.

Maybe he should just admit that he might be a great doctor, but would never be even an adequate rider.

He made his way up onto the front porch and rang the bell. In a minute he heard the slide of a window.

“Hey. I’m up here,” Marti called.

He backed off the porch and looked up. Marti looked down at him, a wide grin on her face. How could a simple smile transform her from pretty to total knockout? She appeared to be wearing a towel and not much else.

“Sorry, I’m running about ten minutes late. I had a stubborn bull who decided he wanted to jump a fence.”

Eli gestured to the towel and then to his tux. “I might be a little overdressed compared to you.”

She laughed, the sound ricocheting through him like a pinball. “I’ll try to see if I can come up with something more appropriate to wear. Door’s open. Let yourself in. There’s beer and wine in the kitchen, if you can find it. Bourbon, scotch and whatever in the living room. Help yourself to a drink. I swear. I won’t be but just a minute.”

“Or ten,” he said.

She gave him a thumbs up and disappeared back into the house.

The door was unlocked and he entered into a gleaming clean foyer. A flight of stairs leading to the second floor stood directly in front of him. He could probably march up those and find his semi-dressed date, not that he would, but the idea of Marti only partially dressed was enticing.

The wood of the floors and walls gleamed under the ceiling lights. The main living room was to his right, so he wandered in there. A large, now cold, fireplace dominated the room. A pair of chairs and a worn overstuffed sofa suggested the room got a lot of use. He had no trouble believing that. He could envision a roaring fire on a cold night and snuggling on the sofa.

Now, he was being ridiculous. He needed help from this woman, not snuggling on a cold night. Besides, he would be heading back to New York in only three short months, as soon as that partnership came through.

He sat on the sofa—comfortable as advertised—and studied the stack of magazines on the coffee table. He’d expected People, or Cosmopolitan, or some other rag directed at female readers. Instead, he leafed through Texas Cattlemen, Texas Women Ranchers, Whispering Springs’ local paper and today’s Wall Street Journal.

His brain chastised him. Sexist much, doctor? He settled back to read the Wall Street Journal, but had gotten only a couple of pages in when he heard Marti’s footsteps on the stairs. Dropping the newspaper back onto the table, he rose. When she entered the room, his breath caught.

Holy shit. The cowgirl was gone. In her place stood an elegant, poised woman who might grace any socialite event his parents attended on a regular basis.

“Wow,” he said with a gulp of air. He twirled a finger in the air. “Do a three-sixty.”

Her dark auburn hair was up in a twist up the back of her head but curly pieces hung along her face. Her dress. Damn. What could he say? Black thin straps held up a satiny-looking long straight dress that draped around her curves. It dipped modestly in the front, but when she turned away from him, his heart leapt at the sight she presented. In the back, the dress dipped low to a vee just past her waist, leaving a luscious view of creamy, smooth skin. He gulped again.

“Wow. Just wow.”

She grinned. “You clean up pretty good yourself, doctor.” She imitated his finger twirl. “Your turn.”

He turned in a circle and then faced her again. “Sorry. Nothing tantalizing in my attire.”

She picked up a small black clutch and pointed it at him. “You are so wrong. Men underestimate the power of a suit, especially a well-fitting tux. I’ll be pushing my friends away from you all night.”

A flush pinked her cheeks. “Nicest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Shall we go?” Holding out a bent arm, he said, “Let’s go rock this shindig.”

Chuckling, he walked to where she stood. “And here I was thinking the same about you, except I don’t know many people in Whispering Springs, so I’ll be dueling with strangers.”

Now some very interesting things happen both before and after this event.

First a confrontation with Marti’s ex-fiancé’s father, which she then explains to Eli. But the most fun comes when they reach the ranch after the party.

A searing kiss and a new foal are the beginnings of a relationship. One with lots of potential for both of them.

Getting Eli on a horse to fulfill his promise to Joe, a young amputee, is very entertaining.

We also get to see the Montgomery clan and Delene and Tina in this one as well. Zack and Chad really need to step up their game and win these ladies.

Plenty of heat, fun, laughter and tears in this page turning romance.

Winter Blog Review

The last thing Alex ‘Taz’ Davila expected when he got off the plane in Montana was to be sent directly on a mission. However once he arrives, he sees it won’t be a hardship to keep an eye on the lovely therapist, Hannah Kendricks.

With several attempts on her life, that she has been calling unfortunate mishaps; Hannah finally has to agree that there really is danger when it’s apparent that the brakes on her tractor have been tampered with.

She doesn’t know Taz has been sent to figure it all out, and she is of the firm belief she shouldn’t get involved with a patient/client. The ranch she runs specializes in helping former military re-enter society by treating their insecurities with hard work. The clients work with the horses some that have been abused, and also do other chores around the ranch.

This is a favorite scene, the first meeting and a manure fight. It’s a little long but it’s so worth the giggles.

“Who knows?” Hannah smiled, hoping to lighten the subject of dating. “My man might be the next person who walks through that door.”

Arching an eyebrow, Gavin leaned to his left and looked around her, which made Hannah turn, her pulse kicking up a notch.

The doorway remained empty.

She let go of the breath she’d been holding and laughed at herself. “It will happen when it happens. Until then, I have a fence to mend.” She shot a smile back at Gavin and swung around, heading for the exit, and ran into a wall of muscles.

The collision made her let go of the bucket. The plastic hit the ground, the lid popped off and fence staples spilled onto the floor. “Oh, for heaven’s sake.” She bent at the same time a man did and they knocked skulls.

Pain shot through her forehead and she sat back on her bottom. “Oh!”

The man she’d bumped into rocked back on his feet and sat down hard. His eyes glazed, and he swayed more than she did.

Hannah pushed past her own pain and leaned up on her knee, a staple piercing the fabric of her jeans. She didn’t care.

The man in front of her paled. He appeared like he was about to pass out.

“Hey.” She grabbed his arm and held him steady. “Are you all right?”

He nodded and pressed the fingers of both hands to his temples. “I’m fine,” he said, in clipped tones. When he dropped his hands, the haze in his eyes cleared, replaced by a concerned frown. “Did I hurt you?”

She shook her head, the pain receding.

He looked at the mess on the floor. “I’m sorry. I’ll get these.” He scooped up a handful of staples and deposited them into the plastic bucket.

Hannah came up on her haunches and helped collect the nails. In a couple of minutes, they’d secured all of the staples in the tub.

The man rose with the bucket, swayed a bit and then steadied.

Hannah straightened and held out her hand. “I’ll take those.”

He surrendered the container. “Please, accept my apologies.”

“No, it was my fault.” She twisted her lips into a crooked smile. “I should watch where I’m going. Can I help you?”

“I’m looking for a Hannah Kendricks.” He stared into her face. “I don’t suppose that would be you?”

Hannah stared up into the deepest, darkest eyes she’d ever seen. The man towered over her, his shoulders impossibly broad and his face ruggedly handsome. What had he asked? Oh, yeah. “I’m Hannah. And you are?”

The man held out his hand. “Alex Davila. My therapist told me I might see if you had room for one more patient here at the Brighter Days Rehab Ranch.”

Hannah’s heartbeat sped as she took the proffered hand. “Man or beast?” Holy smokes she couldn’t help staring at the beast in front of her and all of his sexy maleness.

His lips quirked upward. “Man.” He touched his chest. “Although, I’ve been called a beast by some of my friends. The patient would be me.”

The wind sucked out of her chest, Hannah felt as if her lungs had deflated to completely empty of all oxygen.

“You?” She ran her gaze over him from the top of his cowboy hat to his sexy new cowboy boots. “Actually, we do have room at the ranch.”

“Oh, good. When they turned me loose at Walter Reed, I wasn’t sure where I’d go next. I was getting close to pre-injury normal, but I didn’t want to backslide.” He gave her a smile. “Would you consider taking me on? I hear you have a good program here.”

“You have?” The fact that he would be one of the ranch’s clients made her feel both disappointed and relieved all at once.

As a client, he would be strictly off limits to her personally. Hannah had an ironclad rule for herself. Don’t get involved with the patients. Er…clients.

They needed to learn to function on their own. Falling for their therapist would only delay their re-entry into society. Shaking off the need to lick the man from head to toe, Hannah swallowed hard and took his hand. “Alex, you say?”

He nodded. “My friends call me Taz.”

“It wouldn’t happen to be short for Tasmanian Devil, would it?”

He grinned.

The action lit a fire at Hannah’s core.

“Guilty,” Taz said.

“Let me guess,” she said, her words tripping on her suddenly heavy tongue. “You’re the kind of person who spins into a situation, stirs it up and spins back out before anyone realizes what hit them?” Like he had her heart and her head spinning right then.

He shrugged. “Something like that.”

“What would you like us to call you? Alex, Davila or Taz?”

“Taz will do.” He stared down at her hand in his. “Do you mind if I have that back?”

Heat rushed up into her cheeks as she realized she’d been holding the client’s hand all the time they’d been discussing his name. Hannah yanked her hand out of his, suddenly missing the warmth and strength. Which was ridiculous. She didn’t need either. But knowing that didn’t stop her from wanting them…

Hannah squared her shoulders, determined to be professional amid her totally unprofessional thoughts. “Gavin will show you to the bunkhouse and get you settled in. But before you decide to stay, you should know, everyone who comes here is expected to pull his or her own weight in one form or another. Disabilities aren’t an excuse to get out of working. The animals we rescue count on us to make their lives better.”

Taz’s brows dipped. “I thought this was a rehab ranch for veterans.”

“And horses. We also rescue abused and mistreated horses. The veterans who come to us learn that they’re not the only living creatures with seemingly insurmountable problems. Our charges help each other heal.” She tipped her head in challenge. “Are you willing to do your share?”

He nodded. “I am.”

“Have you ever been around horses?” she asked.

Taz’s lips twitched. “A little.”

Hannah suspected he wasn’t telling the whole truth. However, she had work to do, and standing around drooling over a client wasn’t getting it done. “As I said, Gavin will show you to your quarters.” She left the tack room as quickly as she could without appearing bitchy or off-putting. Being near Taz was making her insides burn and her thoughts scramble.

“Hey! What the hell!” a voice shouted.

Hannah recognized it as Franklin’s.

“You got it on me first, you damned grunt,” Vasquez responded.

A snort sounded from the other side of a stall and something sailed into the air, landing with a plop on the ground at Hannah’s feet.

“Rather be a grunt than a jarhead,” Franklin shouted.

“Yeah, at least the shit is on the outside of my boots, not on the inside,” Vasquez said.

Two more clumps of straw-studded horse manure sailed out of the stall, landing on the ground near Hannah.

“What’s going on in there?” she shouted, anger building as yet another clump of manure flew out of the stall.

“He started it,” Franklin said, and grunted.

Hannah ran toward the stall, afraid the two young men would hurt each other with the hay rakes.

When she reached the stall gate, she stopped, her lips twitching, laughter bubbling up inside. Franklin and Vasquez were in a war of the rakes, balancing the two tools beneath their good arms, using their bodies to apply leverage. The rake tines were locked, and they were at a standoff.

Then Franklin backed off, dug his tines into the straw and manure and slung shit at Vasquez.

Vasquez ducked, and the horse manure hit Hannah in the chest. She let out a sharp breath and backed up a step.

The two fighters froze, their eyes rounding.

“Miss Kendricks, I’m so sorry.” Franklin ran toward her, still carrying his rake.

“It’s okay,” Hannah said, choking on her sudden need to giggle. She tried not to let it out. The situation was serious, but the guys covered in crap looked hysterically funny. She couldn’t hold back and let loose a bark of laughter.

“Attention!” a commanding voice said behind her. “Drop your tools.”

Both men quickly dropped their rakes and stood straight.

“It’s okay.” Hannah stopped laughing long enough to take a deep breath. When she did, she smelled the manure on her shirt and made a belated attempt to brush it off. Then, to make certain Franklin didn’t devolve into another brawl later, she schooled her face into a stern mask and faced them. “You do realize you’re cleaning up the mess you made?”

The two spoke as one, “Yes, ma’am!”

She tilted her chin a little higher. “And what did you learn today while slinging manure all over the barn?”

Their brows descended. “Ma’am?” Franklin questioned.

“Not to sling shit because it’s wrong?” Vasquez guessed.

“That, too.” Hannah let her lips curl into a smile as she gestured toward the vets. “More importantly, you learned you could manage a rake with one hand. And you did well enough to sling a considerable amount of manure all over the place. Now that you know you can do that, you can put your backs into cleaning up.”

“Yes, ma’am!” Franklin and Vasquez said as one. But they didn’t move. Their gazes shifted to the man who’d commanded them to attention.

“Get to it,” Taz said, his voice deep, strong and brooking no argument.

Franklin and Vasquez scrambled for the rakes. Each grabbed a handle on the wheelbarrow. Together they rolled it toward the middle of the barn and started shoveling manure.

Winter Blog Review

Every one of the men of Alvarez Security have gone through something that has made them turn away from the possibility of love. Vinny is no different and for his new assignment Tony has kept him mostly in the dark. He couldn’t figure out why until he arrives where he is to meet up with her.

Not a rock venue, a symphony hall. On stage a woman playing a harp, catches his attention, the music hauntingly beautiful, bringing memories best left buried, although freeing at the same time.

I fell in love with Vinny from the moment he meets with Annalissa and saves her from a panic attack.

This is a favorite scene.

Annalissa O’Brian was being pushed along with the crowd as usual. She hated being bounced around and wished for the umpteenth time that she were taller…or bigger. Then I’d push back, she thought. Todd Levine, her manager, on one side and Gordon Fisher, her agent, on the other. Both talking to her at the same time, trying to move her through the crowd toward her room.

Finally bursting through the door, she was propelled forward.

“You were fabulous, darling,” Todd was saying. “I told you this concert would take you places.”

“Todd, I don’t care about going pla—” she tried to interject.

“Of course you do,” Gordon interrupted. “Todd, we need to talk tomorrow to see what we can get set up next.”

“I’m thinking a trip to Chicago, then possibly Dallas. See what you can get worked up.”

“Annalissa, what a show. Honey, you look marvelous and your playing? Oh my God, I absolutely cried,” came the voice of her hair stylist, Parker, behind her.

Sharon barged into the room, grabbing the cosmetic bag. “I knew your makeup would hold up under those hot lights. I’m telling you, I know my shit.”

“Gordon, I want you to check on the Hall in New York. See what they have next year,” Todd’s voice cut over the cacophony of others.

“Sirs, are you ready to allow any of the VIPs to have entrance to Ms. O’Brian?”

The room grew small and Annalissa could feel the noose tightening around her neck. Closing her eyes, she tried to block out the sounds, but could feel her breath coming in spurts. Everyone was speaking at once and she could feel the panic rising. Please, not now. Don’t let me fall apart now. She had suffered from panic attacks for years, but only in unfamiliar crowds—never on the stage. Her father considered it a sign of weakness and she had tried to hide them for years.

Numerous hands came forward, all connected to voices clawing for her attention. Until one clear voice in the crowd spoke out.

“Quiet!” came the bark from…her eyes widened as she looked to see who had managed to shut everyone up. Her gaze landed on him. She had no idea who he was, but he looked like a god. Tall, muscular, with the bottom of a Celtic tattoo showing below the arm of his t-shirt. The only man in the room not dressed for a symphony concert and yet the only man in the room that appeared to be completely at ease with himself.

Blinking back the tears as they threatened to fall, she watched as the crowd parted instantly for him as he stalked over. Stopping directly in front of her, she leaned her head way back to hold his gaze. He bent down to whisper, “Breathe, darlin’.”

Gasping in air, she realized that she had indeed been holding her breath. He took her hand in his much larger one, bringing it to his lips. A barely there kiss was placed on the back of her fingers and then he said, “Ms. O’Brian? It’s my honor to meet you. I’m Vincent. Vinny Malloy. And I’ll be your security escort back to Richmond.”

The room had grown strangely quiet, but before chaos could once again ensue, Vinny’s voice carried out. “I’ve just met Ms. O’Brian, but it’s obvious to me that she’s exhausted. As of this moment, she’s under my care and my protection. I and I alone will determine who may be let in to see her and when we will leave.”

Annalissa’s eyes darted around quickly, awaiting the uproar that was sure to follow. Todd’s mouth hung open while Gordon’s face grew red and his eyes narrowed. But she noticed he did not argue with the large man still holding her hand. Still holding my hand? Pulling her fingers out of his soft grip, she immediately felt regret at the loss of his touch.

Suddenly remembering the reason her father wanted to hire a security escort, she glanced around quickly, “Where’s Easnadh?”

Todd immediately answered, “The stage crew is bringing it here.”

Visible relaxing, she turned her eyes once more to the man still standing a few inches away from her, a questioning look in his eyes.
Jordan, Maryann. Vinny: Alvarez Security Series (pp. 18-20). Kindle Edition.

Much to the dismay of her manager and agent, Vinny completely takes over where Annalissa is concerned. However the real action doesn’t begin until their flight gets diverted because of an illness.

It’s at the hotel where Annalissa checks on Easnadh that she discovers drugs had been concealed in her harp.

A major change in plans, as they drive instead of fly with Vinny falling deeper with every mile.

I think this is my favorite book in this series so far. Lots of action, lots of emotion and just enough heat.

Winter Blog Review

I am loving this Highland Series, the women are strong the men are impossible and the bad guys are deliciously evil.

Andrew is Alexander’s brother and he is sent off when he’s caught kissing Lana. Hannah wants him away from her little sister. Fortunately a message of escalating trouble at Reay has Alexander sending him off to protect the lands and Hannah’s family there. That family includes her sister Susana and her daughter.

Andrew has loved and lost, he fell for a beauty named Mairi from Reay long ago while in Perth. Since then he’s not been interested, well except for kissing them. He has a bet with his friend Hamish to kiss a hundred women and Lana was number ninety-nine.

Andrew’s first meeting with Susana doesn’t go very well at all. He sees what he assumes is a farmer being relieved of a cow and figures he’d apprehend the little thief.

This is a favorite scene.

She gored him with a furious glare. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Isn’t it obvious?”

She crossed her arms. “Not precisely.”

“Protecting Reay cattle from thieves.”

He expression soured. “Really?”

“Aye.”

“You’re not doing a very good job at it.”

“I caught you.”

She leaned in, her expression fierce. “What on earth made you think I was a cattle thief?”

“You came barreling out of the woods, alone, brandishing a weapon on an unarmed farmer–“

“He wansa unarmed. And he wasna a farmer. That man has been stealing our cattle for weeks–“

Andrew gulped and set his teeth. “It was only natural to assume you were stealing the cow.:

“How can I steal my own cow?”

Your cow?”

“Of course it’s my cow, you dolt.”

“The cow belongs to Magnus Dounreay.”

She growled at him. Growled. “I am his daughter.”

Andrew froze. Fook/ This was Hannah’s sister? But then now that she mentioned it, there was a familiarity about her. Hannah had the same frown. He was certain of it. He’d seen it often enough.

“We’ve been tracking the thief for days.” She glanced over at the spot where the farmer had been. “And look what you’ve done. After all that work finding the blighter, you let him go.”

“He left the cow,” Andrew offered.

It didn’t help.

She poked him with a sharp finger. He felt it, even through his leather breastplate. “You, sir, are a nuisance. Keep away from me.”

Keep away from her? Not a chance. In fact, all of a sudden his assignment in Reay looked all the more intriguing. Andrew tipped his head to the side and grinned at her. “I canna do that,” he said.

“And why not?”

He waved at the troop of men just joining Hamish on the crest of the hill. “Because we’ve been sent here by the Laird of Dunnet to oversee the defenses of Reay.” His grin broadened as her dismay blossomed. “In fact, I’ll be here for quite some time.”
York, Sabrina. Susana and the Scot (Untamed Highlanders Book 2) (Kindle Locations. 200-220). St. Martin’s Press. Kindle Edition.

Now cattle isn’t the only issue, and things get interesting really fast.

One thing I absolutely noticed was the similarities between Susana’s daughter, Isobel, and Andrew. The hair, the eyes, are men always so blind? Of course Susana’s father put two and two together from the start, but Andrew, well…just blind I guess. I spent lots of time giggling at all his interactions with the little imp.

Stafford, having aligned with Scrabster to harass those at Reay, is escalating. With rumors of the Duke of Caithness returning and requiring some devastating changes tensions quickly rise.

Poisoning, kidnapping, a blossoming romance, a little hellion and so much more will have you turning pages until you finish.

Winter Blog Review

From the very first meeting with Molly, Jace has been in love with her. Unfortunately she fell head over heels for his best friend Carter. Jace was the best man at their wedding and he promised Carter he would look after her if anything ever happened to him. He just didn’t expect what happened.

Carter has a traumatic brain injury, and he has been going through personality changes. Changes so drastic they caused the love to fade and fear to replace it. As a result they have been living apart and Molly has filed for divorce. When Carter strikes back physically, Jase comes to Molly’s rescue.

The fight with Jase has Carter driving off down a winding road in a blinding rainstorm. Carter loses control and goes off the cliff resulting in his death.

Carter’s team is with her through everything, the aftermath of his death brings to light things about the man no one knew. Jase however sticks the closest even though he is finding it hard to stay away.

This is a favorite scene.

Jase brushed en errant curl away from her cheek and cupped her face in his hand, the latent tension growing heavier. Her heart gave a hard thud against her ribs as his gaze dropped to her lips and the seconds stretched out between them.

She had plenty of time to stop him. She should have stopped him, but the tender, almost possessive way he held her face set off a swarm of butterflies in her belly and she’d wondered how it would feel to kiss him.

Then it was too late to stop it because his lips were on hers, and for the life of her, she couldn’t pull away.

Her fingers curled into his shoulders. A shocking wave of heat shot through her, tightening her nipples and making her insides quiver.

Dear God. She’d imagined this. Had secretly longed to know how it would feel, and now…

His lips were warm and firm on hers, his confident hold and the heat pulsing inside her too perfect to interrupt. He kissed her like he had every right to. Like he’d wanted to kiss her forever and was finally staking his claim. She melted into him. Wanting to crawl inside him so that he’d never let her go.

Jase. I’m kissing Jase and it feels…

Way too good.

So good she didn’t want to stop. So good she wanted to keep going until they were skin to skin and he was sliding into her, easing the throb he’d created in her core.

The thought was like a bucket of ice water dumped over her, immediately dousing the fire. Molly pulled away and ducked her head, shaken. But wanting more. Craving it until she ached all over.

Oh my God…

Jase wordlessly slid a thumb across her cheekbone and lowered his hand, allowing her to step back even as her body cried out in protest.

It took her a moment to find her voice, and longer still to find the courage to meet his eyes. When she did, the look on his face was so intent, so full of naked yearning it pushed the air from her lungs. He’d hinted the other night that he wanted her, but she’d never imagined his feelings ran so deep.

She struggled to find her voice. “Jase, what…?” She couldn’t finish the thought.

He shook his head, his gorgeous eyes burning with frustration and a hunger that made her heart pound. “I’ve wanted you forever, Moll. Since the first time I saw you.”

She sucked in a breath at his hoarse admission. He had? Even though she’d been married? To his best friend? Her thoughts were a chaotic jumble, shuffling back over the years since she’d known him, trying to find something she’d missed. But no, he’d never once shown his real feelings for her.

She floundered for something that would allow her to make sense of it. “But you were Carter’s best man, you—”

“Stood up there like a good soldier and watched you pledge yourself to my best friend for better or worse and in sickness and in health? Yeah. I did. And even though I was happy for you both, I hated every fucking moment of it.”

Holy… Molly was too shocked to answer. Though she understood why he never said anything, why he’d hidden it so well. Well enough that she’d never noticed it.

She put a hand to her forehead, her mind spinning. “Oh, God, this is so wrong.” They couldn’t take this any farther. It was too soon, they were friends, and she didn’t want to screw that up.
There was the baby to think of. She couldn’t lose Jase, and continuing down this path would risk everything she had with him.

Jase gave a slow, deliberate shake of his head, his eyes searching hers. “He’s gone, Moll, and he’s not coming back. You deserve to be happy again. So it’s only wrong if you don’t want me.”

The unspoken hurt in his quiet words sliced through her like a blade. Because she did want him. She wanted him so much it scared her. But he was cornering her, pushing her into a place she wasn’t prepared to go.

“I can’t risk losing you,” she whispered back, tormented. “I can’t, Jase, so don’t ask me to.”

He took her face in his hands, his gaze steady and clear, full of emotion that tore at her heart. “Hey. I know you’ve been through a lot. But I’m not going anywhere. And the only way you’d ever lose me is if you shut me out and walk away.”

Panic flared. She shook her head, gave him a pleading look. “Jase, no.” He didn’t understand what he was saying. How disastrous it would be if something went wrong.

“Moll, I know you’re scared. But I won’t hurt you. I would never hurt you, you know that.”

She’d never dreamed Carter would, either. And yet he had.

The panic sharpened. Stabbed through her like a blade. “No.” She shoved his hands away and stepped back, feeling sick. “I can’t. Please understand, it’s never going to happen. I can’t.”
Slade, Heather. Shattered Vows. Crimson Point Series Book 3. Kaylea Cross Inc.. Kindle Edition.

Molly is approached by a man who says Carter owes him 120,000 dollars. Unbelieving and thankful Jase arrives which chases the man away.

Jase and the rest of the team step up to keep Molly safe, including a home Jase has remodeled with her in mind. Jace needs to stay away though, he can’t seem to be near her and not want her. It has to be her decision to be with him.

A touching, emotional, scary and romantic story that will have you turning the pages. I now have to go back and read the rest of this series, I loved everyone I met in this one.

Winter Blog Review

Oh my, Becky McGraw has certainly started us off with a winner.

Dante is the new hire for Deep Six East, they already have a client but not the full team. So it’s Dante who gets the job. He’s pretty full of himself too, used to working alone and not with a team, he needs some attitude adjustment as well.

Prada is everything Dante is afraid of and attracted to, smart, beautiful and an Italian woman. The Italian Ambassador for Woman’s Affairs she is focused on woman’s rights in Italy, especially after a real piece of work doesn’t get jail time for his harassment and attempted rape of some co-workers. She hadn’t pressed her charges, but now she would. The man had to go down.

Unfortunately she isn’t the one who asks for protection, it’s her father. Arturo D’Angelo is a high ranking official in the Italian government looking to run for president. He also wants his daughter to wed the man he’s chosen for her, although she’s kicked him out after she finds him in bed with another woman.

The first meeting between Dante and Prada wasn’t in her office although they don’t realize it until he does make it there.

This is a favorite tantrum scene.

An hour and a cup of coffee later, he felt much warmer and calmer as he strolled down the long hallway, reading the office numbers above each door. He didn’t need to know which one was Prada D’Angelo’s, though. He heard her angry, Italian-accented voice echoing down the hallway. He stopped outside the last door to the left, which was opened a crack, to listen.

“What are you doing in my office?” Prada D’Angelo, demanded. “Who gave you permission to be in here?”

“Your assistant,” Dex replied and Dante heard his heavy sigh. “We’re the cyber-security team for Deep Six and are here to secure your office to help your bodyguard protect you.”

“Are you the bodyguards my father hired? If so, you don’t look very capable. You don’t even have a weapon, and she probably couldn’t save herself, much less me!”

Oh, his new protectee was in fine form this morning, he thought. Loaded for bear with that mouth. It took everything Dante had not to turn right back around and run out of this building and not for coffee. That duct tape might be a good first investment.

“No—we are not your bodyguards. We are support staff. Dante Girabaldi will be your bodyguard, but I guess he’s running a little late.”

Yes, he was, because he let himself be distracted by a beautiful ass.

“Well, he can run as late as he wants, because he is going to be fired as soon as he decides to show up,” she grumbled.

Dante pushed the door open wider and lost his breath when he caught his first sight of his protectee. The wildcat from the park. There was no mistaking that ass, which looked even better in a pencil skirt than spandex. When she turned a little to glare up at Dex on the ladder, he got a look at her face, and groaned. He was in deep shit, he thought, as he walked inside.

“And you are too, so don’t waste your time, or my father’s money here,” Prada said, folding her arms over her chest.

“Prada!” A shorter woman, who must be her assistant, glided into the office. “Stop being a testa dura. You know this is for the best.”

“I don’t have time for this, Guilia! You know I have things to do here. You should not have let them in here and I wouldn’t be a tough nut!” Prada shouted.

“Well, you can’t do those things if you’re dead, now, can you?” Guilia fired back, crossing her arms over her chest to stare her boss down.

“You did this, didn’t you?” Prada asked, pointing a finger at her. “You called my father!”

“Yes, I did—because I love you. We em>both love you, and you are not taking these threats seriously,” Guilia replied lifting her chin.

Prada’s eyes darted to the doorway and her mouth opened on a gasp, then pinched tight as her eyebrows crashed together. She stalked over to him to point at the door behind him.

“Get out!” she shouted, then looked back at Dex, who was making his way down the ladder. “You get out, too. All of you, get out!”

“We aren’t going anywhere, Ms. D’Angelo, but please don’t let us keep you from those important things you said you needed to get done in your office.” Dante ignored her angry glare and stepped around her.
Becky McGraw. Heart Burn: Deep Six East Book 1 ARC FILE (Kindle Locations 335-360). Becky McGraw. Kindle Edition.

There are many tantrums from Prada, some tempered by Guilia her best-friend and assistant, others full blast at Dante. She is most determined and frustrating to Dante. He is insanely attracted to her especially when he realizes where he’s seen her before.

With the introduction of the new Team, I think there might be a story with Guilia and Brad, definite connection there. It’s really great to see not only Griff, but also Gray and Mickie. I should mention that Mickie is Dante’s sister and you’ll love their part in this story.

A misogynistic jerk, a Prince who isn’t yet, a father with secrets, the mafioso, some great stuff in Rome and Milan and so much more. You will be turning the pages quickly to see what happens next in this must read beginning to Deep Six East!
