Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

In this book we learn the whole story behind Alex and Eve, their marriage, their divorce, their D/s relationship and the love they are both denying.

When Evans turns up on the radar again, all Alex can think about it keeping Eve safe and out of the way. He can’t take a chance that she could ever go through that hell again.

Their contact turns out to be a reporter, she’d been sniffing out this story for years. Now she needs Alex and as many of this team as she can get to infiltrate a club she believes is laundering Evans’ money. She’s managed to get him a position as Dom in Residence for this themed Club and also the ability to bring his own sub.

Now when Eve hears about this, she has her own ideas of who that sub should be. The problem is, how is she going to pull this off.

Kristen squeezed his arm lightly. “Amanda is on her way. You’re going to love her. She’s practically the perfect sub. She’ll have these women trained in no time.”

Alex smiled. If Chazz kept calling what seemed like perfectly pleasant women bitches, he was going to strangle the fucker. Though he’d laughingly called Eve a bitch from time to time, it was with deep affection, the same way she would call him a righteous asshole. Still, the whole idea of Amanda walking through those doors and greeting him with a kiss put his gut in a knot. He should have played gay and brought Adam in. It would have been easier on him to kiss Adam than Amanda.

The door opened and a stream of late-afternoon light filtered in making a shadow of the woman walking in the door. She was followed by a big, bulky shadow. Sean. Alex released a long breath. He felt better with Sean here. His back was much safer than before.

Amanda walked through, and it looked like she’d followed his instructions to the letter. Her hair was longer than it had been before. He didn’t know if it was a wig or extensions, but it would change her in a subtle way.

And that was what he wanted, for her not to look exactly like Amanda King.

She moved out of the shadow and he caught a look at the new Amanda. He felt the smile slip off his face because she really didn’t look like Amanda at all.

He blinked to clear his vision because he hadn’t seen Amanda. He’d seen Eve, with chestnut-brown hair that brushed the tops of her breasts. She was dressed in the skimpiest clothes he’d ever seen her wear, a mini skirt that couldn’t possibly cover her ass. It looked like someone had wrapped a bandage around her hips and called it a skirt. Her tank top molded to every inch of her torso, stopping roughly an inch above the skirt, giving him a glimpse of skin every time she moved.

And her freaking legs looked a million miles long in what had to be five-and-a-half inch platforms. She was wearing the thin leather collar that should have been around Amanda’s neck.

Eve. Eve was here, and she looked like sex in stilettos.

Kristen didn’t miss a beat. She greeted Eve like they were the old friends they were supposed to be.

“Hey, Mandy. How was the flight?”

“Great. Couldn’t have been better.” Eve smiled up at him.

Sean held out a hand in greeting. Nothing in his expression gave away the fact that the operation had just gone to hell. “Hey, brother.” He looked around the club. “This is a shit hole.”

“Nice, Sean.” He forced himself to stay calm. “This is Chazz. He runs this shit hole. This is my cousin, Sean Reilly.”
Blake, Lexi. Masters and Mercenaries Bundle: The Early Ops (Books 1-5). DLZ Entertainment, LLC. Kindle Locations (16232-16252). Kindle Edition.

To say Alex was pissed is an understatement. Unfortunately for him there was nothing to do but accept it. Eve definitely pushes his buttons but really she is a valuable asset in this scenario.

Lots of suspense, action and downright scary moments as this tale unfolds. Plus the love and sizzle between Alex and Eve that runs hot and cold and then white hot as they finally discover what their problems really are.

Mistletoe – K19 Security Solutions Book 3 by Heather Slade

Mistletoe
K19 Security Solutions Book 3
By
Heather Slade

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

More is at stake than a holiday surprise or two…

The K19 Security Solutions team is typically ready to serve and protect at any given time. But the holidays call for even more vigilance and protection—from each other. As families navigate through Thanksgiving and Christmas, more conflicts arise. Just as Zary and Gunner discover a Christmas miracle, Ava and Razor have a secret of their own.

Can the K19 Security Solutions team get to the New Year without destroying the magic of the holidays or will the season bring more than they bargained for?

While each book in the K19 Security Solutions Series is a standalone with its own HEA, they may be more enjoyable read in order.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

I have fallen in love with this series. I started it out of order and going back has given me insight into the other major characters. In this book we peek into the holidays and as with most families there are some conflicts and some romance and surprises as well.

Gunner, Zary, Razor and Ava are hosting these holidays and their town houses are rapidly filling. So the Inn nearby is also filling with the K19 Crew. So lets see who’s all there, we have Aine and Striker (surprise Gunner), Monk and Saylor, Saylor’s girls, Odette, Gunner’s Mom Madeline, Zary’s Mom Svelana, Ava and Aine’s Mom Peggy, Onyx, Topar and finally Aine’s friends Pen and Tara. At least I think I have everyone covered.

Most of the conflict surrounds Mantis, Dutch and Alegria, and the others all contribute to the happy.

Alegria is recovering from surgery, and even though Mantis is right there beside her, when she sees Dutch she reaches for him. Now the friendship between Mantis and Dutch is in jeopardy.

Unbeknownst to Razor, Gunner has invited Mantis for the holiday festivities. So with Alegria and Dutch coming at Razor’s invite you know things will get interesting.

I think my favorite scene is at the hospital after Mantis leaves Alegria and Dutch alone together.

“That wasn’t fair, Alegria,” Dutch scolded her. “You made him think—”

“That I had moved on.”

“With me.”

She caressed the back of his hand with her thumb. “Haven’t I?”

“If I believed it’s what you really want…”

“It is what I want.”

“Listen.” Dutch scrubbed his face with his hand. “I know you still love him. You always will.”

There was no point in lying; she would always love Mantis, but that didn’t mean they could ever be together again. Both of them had said too many things that could never be taken back. She’d given him an ultimatum, and he’d chosen the mission over her.

That’s just who Mantis was. From the day she met him, he’d never wavered in his commitment to the Air Force, and then to the CIA. She’d never been first with him, and she’d made it clear that if he wanted her in his life, he had to change his priorities. When he refused, Alegria knew if she didn’t end the relationship then, she never would. And she’d be miserable.

“I’m with you now. What I had with him is…over.”

“I wish I could believe it was that simple.” Dutch shook his head.

“Why are you angry with me?”

He ran one hand through his hair while he grasped her fingers with the other. “Because I saw what just happened. Worse, I felt it.”

“You let him leave believing we were together. If you don’t want to be with me, why didn’t you tell him so?”

Dutch shook his head. “I didn’t say I don’t want to be with you, Alegria. As to why I didn’t try to stop Mantis from leaving, I can’t answer that. I guess it’s because as much as I care about him, I care about you too, and right now, you need me more.”

“I don’t want your pity.”

Dutch looked away from her. “What do you want?”

Alegria bit her lip. “I…I don’t know how to answer that.”

He turned back and met her gaze.

“Ask me.”

“What?”

“Ask me what I want.”

“What do you want, Dutch?” she whispered, her eyes filling with tears.

“I want to believe that someday you’ll love me half as much as you love Mantis. Just half as much.”

Dutch got up and walked out.

Shadow – SEALs of Honor Book 5 By Dale Mayer

Shadow
SEALs of Honor Book 5
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Dale Mayer

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Given a life that’s been little more than an uphill battle, it’s no wonder Shadow is so damn good at dealing with whatever’s the hardest, the most hazardous and hellish.

The life of a SEAL is the one place where Shadow is most comfortable existing. He’s certain of what he’s capable of achieving, knows when to act and exactly how to do what needs to be done. But when he sets off on a mission to rescue Arianna and her family, his world goes from precise, controlled action to blown-to-smithereens chaos. Who is this woman and why does she rattle him the way no one else ever has?

Arianna has been plunged into a foreign state of affairs that includes kidnapping, beatings, threats…and Navy SEALs. The only good thing about this nightmare is the dark, dangerous savior watching over them. Shadow doesn’t seem to have a clue what to do with her. Although she has a pretty good idea where she’d like to see their relationship go, will they ever get that chance?

She’s been marked for murder, and it’s up to Shadow to save her–or risk losing what he hadn’t even realized he wanted, yet now can’t live without…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

As the men of Mason’s team find a woman that can deal with all that comes with loving a SEAL, the few remaining single men wonder if they will find love too.

This mission is high profile, a Senator and his family being held hostage at their vacation cabin in Canada. With all the windows it’s a challenge to find a way to approach without being seen.

Arianna and her brother have been sent to bed, and they hear the awful sounds of her father being beaten and told to comply. Knowing they have to get out of there not only for Kevin but also to prevent these men from touching her Arianna searches out the window for her options.

As there was no one in the window now to see his rope, he swung it gently forward to come up and lightly tap the glass. He knew his team was watching his progress.

The first swing fell short, the second was almost there. The third hit. A heavy enough thud, and he immediately pulled it up in case someone else heard it.

After a few moments, and lying full length on the large tree limb above, he swung it again. And it tapped the window lightly. Then he did it again. And again.

Damn it, where were they?

Afraid the two had been moved he tried one more time and watched as two pale faces appeared. Arianna wasted no time. She opened the window, did something to the brother and lifted him up to the windowsill. When Shadow swung the rope toward them, she grabbed it and had the boy grab high enough up the rope that he could stand on the knot below. Then she gave him a quick kiss and swung him out and away. She stepped back out of sight but he knew she could still see the boy as he hung on for dear life. Shadow carefully hauled him up. The boy was a lightweight. But it was still dangerous getting off the rope and over the main trunk of the tree where he wrapped the boy’s arms around the trunk and whispered against his ear, “Hold on. I’ll be right back. I have to get your sister.”

Shadow returned with the rope to where the window was still open…and the young woman waited for him.

She peered out at him then darted back, slowly lowering the window again. What was she doing? Then he watched the guard on sentry duty cross the property line, his gaze automatically going to the bedroom window.

Shadow smiled in appreciation. He could kill the guard from where he was positioned and would love to – but only once he had the girl out and safe.

She needed to be rescued too. He waited for the sentry to pass under him and go around the house, then slowly lowered the rope. This time when he swung it to the window he found her sitting on the ledge, legs out as if to jump. She stood up awkwardly, grabbed the rope as high as she could, and then pushed the window down behind her as she let go to swing out on the rope.

Smart.

He was liking her more and more already. She climbed up that rope like a monkey and as she made her way to where he was lying silently, he couldn’t help but admire her. She was almost eye level, her gaze busy as she looked for a way to get up onto the tree. When he extended his arm, she reached up and clasped his forearm. He sat up and tugged, she landed in his arms. Very nice.

She lay there trembling for a long moment then turned to look directly at him. For a long moment their gazes locked. Then she said, “It was you, on the hill, wasn’t it?”

He nodded. “Yes,” he whispered.

“Need to get the rope out of sight. Kevin is back at the main trunk.”

She caught sight of her brother, carefully gained her footing and made her way over to him. Shadow, his hands busy pulling up his rope, looped it properly then stuffed it in his pack. He was surprised to see both Kevin and Arianna had backpacks with them. It was good but it had taken a presence of mind he hadn’t expected.

He approached and with an arm around both of them he explained who he was and what they were going to do next.

Neither said a word until he was done. Then Kevin reached out and grabbed his hand, whispered in a hard to understand guttural voice, “Thank you.”
Mayer, Dale. SEALs of Honor: Books 4-6 . Valley Publishing. Kindle Locations(2903-2930). Kindle Edition.

Shadow is successful in getting Arianna and her brother out of the second floor window as the rest of the team prepares to get the Senator and his wife. Of course this isn’t going to be easy.

Arianna saves Shadow and takes a bullet to her leg, and things just get more complicated as they head to extraction.

Apparently Arianna is a target and when they fail to get her out they are all still in danger.

So much action, suspense and intrigue as this story unfolds, Shadow’s admiration for Arianna and her understanding of the situation will just make you love them more.

A page-turning read you won’t want to miss.

Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the missing journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.

In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca—but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Once again the book opens with one of Rebecca’s journal entries. I was prepared this time and did not freak out. Then we continue exactly where “If I Were You” ended.

I swear I almost had an anxiety attack with Sara as she deals with the darkness we had left her in. Once out she gets a call from Chris and one of my favorite conversations in this book ensues.

My cell phone rings from the seat, where I don’t remember tossing it, and I jump, balling my fist between my breasts. “Good grief,” I murmur, chiding myself. “Get a grip, Sara.”

I glance at the number. Chris. My chest burns hot with emotion. There is so much between us that is unsettled, so many reasons why we are wrong for each other. Yet, despite this or perhaps because of it, I have never needed to hear someone’s voice as much as I need to hear his now.

“Sara,” he murmurs when I answer, and my name is a soft rasp of silky male perfection that radiates through me and settles in the deep hollow of my soul only he seems to fill.

“Chris.” My voice cracks on his name, because damn it, my eyes are burning. How have I gone from living the past few years so unaffected by what is around me to the opposite in a matter of weeks? “I . . . I wish you were here.”

“I am here, baby,” he says, and I think, I hope, I hear a note of his own emotion etched deep within his words. “I’m at your front door. Open up.”

I blink in confusion. “I thought you were in L.A. for the charity event.”

“I was and I have to fly out again in the morning, but I had to see you. Open up and let me in.”

I am stunned. I’ve worried all day over his silence. Feared he’d shut me out, as I had him last night. “You came home just to see me?”

“Yes. I came just to see you.” He seems to hesitate. “Are you going to leave me outside?”

More of that emotion I try not to feel erupts inside me, and the burn in my eyes threatens to become tears. He came to see me, went out of his way, to fly here from another city, even after the way I’d reacted to his confession at the club last night. “I’m not home.” My voice is barely audible. “I’m not and I want to be. Can you please come here?”

“Where is here?” he asks, sounding as urgent as I feel.

“A few blocks away. At a Stop N Buy store by the storage unit I told you about.” I can’t bring myself to say Rebecca’s name and I don’t know why.

“I’ll be right there.”

I open my mouth to give him directions, but the line goes dead.
Jones, Lisa Renee. Being Me (Inside Out Series Book 2) (pp. 7-8). Gallery Books. Kindle Edition.

This leads us into more complications and revelations that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The animosity between Mark and Chris, Sara’s insistence on being her own person and the realization that Ella may be missing as well keeps the tension high.

We discover the darkest secrets of Chris and Sara in this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of all of this and love that Chris hires Walker Security to protect Sara and investigate Rebecca’s disappearance. Fellow readers will recognize this company from Lisa’s Tall, Dark, and Deadly series.

Where is Rebecca? Where is Ella? Can Sara and Chris make their relationship work? Some answers are revealed others not yet.

I still don’t have adequate words for all the feelings that ran through me as I read this book. I laughed, I cried, I panted and held my breath. Yet another suspenseful, steamy, gripping novel.

Along Came a Spider
NY Times Bestselling Author
Delilah Devlin

All Spider Longren wants is time alone to recharge after a grueling mission, but what he gets is caught in the double crossfire of passion and danger.

Spider was trying to relax, fishing was supposed to help calm him. Instead he ends up in a fight to save a woman being attacked in her tent.

Jessie is running from her fiancé, well he thinks she’s still his fiancé. She’s discovered something she can’t let go and now her life is in danger.

This is a favorite scene.

“I can drive, you know.”

Spider shrugged. “I know, but I’d rather do it.”

With her lips twisting, she drawled, “We there yet?” He grunted, and his teeth flashed in the light from the dash. She found she liked his smile. Yeah, Spider Longren was a handsome man.

“Not far,” he said, checking his GPS. His jaws stretched as he yawned.

“Why are you doing this?” she asked. “You don’t know me.”

He shrugged. “I don’t know. Pretty damsel in distress—it’s what I do. Or would like to do more often.” His glance shot her way. “I went fishing because I needed to unwind. Fishing didn’t cut it. But this…with you…I haven’t wanted to smash something in hours.”

Yeah, a SEAL through and through. “So what’s your story?”

His eyebrows shot up. “My story? Don’t really have one. I was born and raised in northwestern Montana. Never even saw the sea until I joined the Navy.”

“Why Navy?”

“I wanted to be near a beach.”

She laughed. “Really, you decided to be a SEAL so you could see the beach?”

“Yeah, sounds lame now, but you didn’t spend your youth following cattle butts around the countryside. The sea sounded glamorous, and since I didn’t go to college, I figured the Navy would get me there. A recruiter noticed I played football and liked mountain climbing. Thought I’d be challenged going through BUD/s training. I never looked back.”

“No family?”

“A brother who sells real estate—ranches, really—to Hollywood types.” He shook his head. “He thinks I’m crazy.”

She nodded. “He doesn’t get it.”

Spider shot her a glance. “But you do…?”

She gave a shrug. “Army. Twelve years.”

“Rank?”

“Major.” He gave a thin whistle. “So you do get it. Do you miss the Army?”

Jessie sighed. “Some things, but the higher you go up in rank, the more time you spend in staff jobs at headquarters—especially when you’re female. I was ready to do something else. I should have known there’d be a catch.”

Silence stretched between them. “Were you in love with him?”

“No, but I didn’t think that really mattered. I thought we had lots in common. That the work we were doing was important—not the guns, but the armor. Anything to protect and strengthen troops; I figured that was worth it. I felt I was part of a team again. I had family. Thought that, at least, he was an honorable man.”

Spider seemed to digest what she said, then he sat forward, peering through the windshield. “That’s our turn.”

He drove onto a narrow, paved road that wound deeper into forest. Eventually, the pavement gave way to gravel. Spider flipped on his brights, and they both peered through the glass with its long spiderweb crack stretching across the middle. The lights reflected off something looming in the distance to the left of the road.

He slowed, lifted his GPS, then clicked it off. “Home sweet home.”

What she saw was a ramshackle cabin with a porch that leaned precariously, large stones propping up one side.

Spider cussed softly under his breath. “I swear, Tank takes our SEAL buddies out here to hunt. If it can survive a bunch of SEALs…”

She grinned. “I’ve stayed in worse.” Again, he gave a masculine grunt, a sound she was beginning to think was very sexy.

“You were an officer. I doubt it.”

“An un-air-conditioned tent with scorpions for roommates…”

He turned to stare. “Did not.”

“Army, not Navy. You guys are spoiled. But I’ll admit. I wasn’t in the tent for long.”

He looked back at the cabin again and let out a deep breath. “He swore there’s running water and the lights work.”

“See? Everything we need.

They settle into Tank’s cabin and then strategize how to handle things. Of course you know things can’t stay peaceful since they have to catch the bad guys.

Firefighter Tyler has one problem. He’s still got his V-card. And he wants his best friend Evie to help him lose it, only she has no idea he’s wanted her for years. Time to make his move.

Evie has returned from Italy, now broken up with her fiancé she is looking to spend some quality time with her best friend Tyler.

I’m not sure what I laughed harder at, the nun on the plane or when she walks in on Tyler in the locker room of the firehouse.

This is a favorite scene.

“It’s so good to see you, Ty. So good.” Tears sprang into her eyes, and she clasped tighter, needing the time to compose herself.

He held her away from his body, though she could feel the comfort of it anyway. He smelled amazing, clean and safe and not like sausage at all. Stupid dream.

“What’s happened? Why are you upset?”

“No reason. Just glad to be home.”

“Evie…”

Eighteen months since she’d seen him, and those months had morphed him into an even finer specimen.

Eyes bluer than a summer sky, hair a deeper russet, her own Prince Harry. But nothing else had changed. He could still see right through her.

“I broke up with Paulo.”

“Oh, shit. I’m sorry to hear that.” He gathered her close, and she let herself rest a cheek on his hard, delicious pec. She could’ve stayed that way forever.

“What happened? Do you want to talk about it?”

“Maybe later. I know you’re on shift until the morning, but tomorrow night? Drinks at Dempsey’s? Unless you have plans.” What if he was seeing seeing someone? He hadn’t said, but he never talked about who he was dating. Tyler might be shy, but women would be crawling all over him like they did all the firefighters.

“I do have plans.” He chucked her chin. “With you.”

Relief flooded her chest. “Oh, good. Tonight, I’ll hang with Dad. Let him cook for me.”

“Meatballs?”

“And lasagna.”

“He’s thrilled to have you home. Hasn’t stopped talking about it all week.”

“That’s my dad.”

“Yes, that’s your dad,” a gruff voice cut in. “But apparently you’ve forgotten he’s the first person you should come see.”

“Dad!” She rushed into his arms and hugged him hard. A different, no less comforting, scent enveloped her. Since her mom died of ovarian cancer when Evie was eleven, it had been just the two of them. “I stopped at your office first, but Cath said you were in the locker room.” A little white lie.

Her father was grayer than the last time she’d seen him, not last Christmas Christmas but the one before. Too long. Too much time wasted with a man who didn’t deserve her love. She should have been here with her father. With—

She threw a quick glance over her shoulder at Tyler, who had folded his arms and was watching the family reunion with a smile curving his lips.
Devlin, Delilah. Men In Uniform Anthology. One Handed Reads. Kindle Locations (6102-6125). Kindle Edition.

On their night out Evie learns something about Tyler she truly didn’t know. It’s an unusual twist in that he is the virgin.

I really enjoyed this very hot and fun read that has just a touch of hold your breath suspense.

One thing Brandon realizes is that she’s carrying a lot of guilt, even though she had no choice in the shooting. As much as he doesn’t want to he has to get her to understand that it really wasn’t her fault.

This is a favorite scene.

“Okay then.” He turned away. He knew she was getting fired up, but he hadn’t been prepared for when she grabbed onto his shoulder and pushed until he turned around.

“I didn’t have a choice.”

“Say it again,” he told her.

She stared at him for a moment, her eyes filling up with tears as her lips began to quiver.

“Say it again.”

“I didn’t, Brandon. I didn’t have…a…choice.”

Her voice trailed off with the last word before she collapsed to the floor, sobbing into her trembling hands.

He cursed himself for putting her through that, hating the broken sight that sat before him. Damn it if it wasn’t exactly what she needed, though.

He’d seen it all too often over the years. The true victim traumatizing themselves over and over again as they dealt with a guilt that they should’ve never been forced to face in the first place.

He knelt down to where she sat huddled in a ball. “Come here.” Pulling her up, he was surprised when she went willingly into his arms. She grabbed onto his shoulders and cried against his chest. The T-shirt he wore quickly became soaked with her tears.

He muttered a curse, wondering how long she’d been barely hanging on. He muttered a second one for being the one who had finally pushed her over that edge.

Sitting down on the bed, he pulled her into his lap and allowed her cries of anguish to echo in the room while neither of them said a word. It wasn’t the first time he’d a woman who’d been suffering and needed someone to make them feel safe. He doubted it would be the last. Still, something about the unrelenting tears of Alena tugged at his heart a little harder.

He whispered calming words into her ear while brushing his hand down the back of her long hair. He knew she needed to get it out, but the longer she carried on, the tougher it was for him to hear.

“Shh…” He lifted her chin with his forefinger and forced her gaze up to his. “This isn’t on you. No matter how guilty you feel. This isn’t on you.”

She sniffled and her sobs slowed. It was as if she had been waiting to hear that from someone, anyone. And he wondered why no one had ever told her.

The small sliver of moonlight that reflected on her cheeks highlighted the trail of her tears.

With his thumb, he brushed them away, leaning over and gently pressing his lips against her soft skin.

Brandon has his own demons, demons that had me in tears.

Plenty of action and suspense in this emotional story, as well as some very sizzling scenes.

Carmen Falcone

Retired Air Force pilot Mack always desired Jenny but couldn’t act on it because she’d been too young. Now, years later, he’s ready to show her they’d make a great couple—in and out of the bedroom.

Jenny’s headed to Houston to her best friend, Lewis’ 30th birthday party and to discuss the pact they’d made years ago. The pact to marry if they both were still single at 30. Now Jenny does have a few months to go but Lewis would make a good husband and father. Her sister doesn’t think she should go for it, but Jenny had to at least discuss it with Lewis.

Of course she wasn’t expecting Mack to be her pilot, she’d crushed on him for years, but she was too young, and he probably wasn’t really interested anyway.

Little did she know Mack felt the same but he made a promise to her father not to pursue her.

This is a favorite scene when she finds out he’s her pilot.

He removed his aviator sunglasses and studied her with striking gray eyes. She unglued her tongue from the roof of her mouth and swallowed. Though he only had three years on her, a single premature strand of gray hair streaked from his temple into his textured brown hair, still cut short from his Air Force days. She gazed down, and a sand-colored uniform covered his impossibly broad shoulders, wide chest, and narrowing hips. “Mack? It’s so nice to see you,” she lied. When she was growing up, and he worked for her father on the ranch the family owned in the Texan panhandle, he intrigued her. Now…he fascinated her. Aroused her.

He gave her a slow, small smile that knotted her insides. “Glad you made it in time, Jenny. I’ll be your pilot today. When I read your name on the manifest, I had to come say hi first.”

“You? My pilot?” Mack had worked for her father until he turned eighteen, eighteen, when he left for the Air Force. She remembered Dad saying Mack had done well, and hell, hadn’t Mack attended a couple family parties a few years back? Only then, she hadn’t talked to him much. Why would she want to relive the days she crushed on the guy who paid her no attention?

“Yes.”

Mack Hunter. She hadn’t seen him for years. One thing she knew, though…being around him meant wrestling every part of her that could lead her back onto the wrong path. Shit.

This would be a hell of a long flight.
Devlin, Delilah. Men In Uniform Anthology. One Handed Reads. Kindle Locations (4394-4406). Kindle Edition.

Now a ninety minute flight is not very long to start a relationship, but then fate steps in to ensure they’d have the time.

This story goes from simmer to sizzle quickly as the serious situation they find themselves in becomes very interesting.

Two for the Road
Bisou deVie

One city girl from LA. One sexy Greek paramedic from Canada. One road trip. What could go wrong?

I love the opening to this one. Ion is a paramedic working on a movie set. He is reporting for duty when he hears someone calling for help.

Jill has obviously never been in the Canadian wilderness before and it makes for some hilarity.

This is a favorite scene.

The parking area was full, the movie crew having been there a few hours already to set up so they could start shooting at first light. Ion parked on a tiny patch of dirt near the edge of the lot next to a Jeep that had the license plate BEAUTYQN on it and hopped out.

Taking in a deep breath, he let the scent of moss and rich, peaty dirt fill his lungs. This was home, where he loved being over anywhere else. Nature. It never lied and made no promises.

Slamming the door to the medi-van, Ion had the strongest urge to take a leak. It had been three hours and two large Timmies coffees since he’d last gone. He was due.

Taking a quick look around, Ion walked up to the dirt mound by the van and moved in closer to the bush to avoid being seen. Not that he cared, really. But there could be kids running around, though he highly doubted it at this early hour.

“Hello? Can someone help me, please? I’m being attacked by…furry creatures!”

Furry creatures? This sounded like bad B movie-type script writing.

A few long strides in and Ion laid eyes on what had to be a movie extra. Her long blond hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail, and she wore a denim skirt, tank top, and heels that were too high for navigating the backwoods of Ontario.

That the woman could walk on the forest ground without sinking in and tripping face-first was a miracle in itself.

Extra. Definitely an extra.

“Those things are blocking my way to the restroom,” she said, pointing at Ion from behind the tree she was currently holding on to for dear life. Maybe this was a scene in the movie.

“You mean the raccoons?” Ion asked, taking a few steps toward her. “The what? Is that what they look like? Never seen one in person before. Jesus, don’t those things have rabies? I cannot get rabies. Are you the park warden? If so, I want to lodge a complaint. These things shouldn’t be let to run free like this. What if somebody gets hurt?”

Oh God, this was definitely a setup or a scene he’d just walked in on.

Jimmy was behind this, wasn’t he?

He’d worked with Jimmy on a few movies now, and he’d become known as the movie-set prankster. He’d have to buy him a beer later tonight for this one, and maybe some nachos from that little place by the lights in town, because this was too fucking funny.

“Did you hear me? You over there, hello. My last name is Atwood. In case you need it for my death certificate.”

“Atwood? Are you related to Margaret, by chance?”

“How do you know about Margaret?”

“Well, I mean, most Canadians who can read do know about Margaret.”

“I know that woman has a name for herself, but all of Canada? Could this day get any worse?” She slumped down along the length of the tree and sat in a squat-like position with her head against the bark. “It’s official. I hate Canada.”

“I’m going to ignore you saying that,” said Ion with a tsk tsk and playful shake of his head. “Margaret’s one of our most beloved writers, so of course we know about her.” He reached out a hand around the tree Jill was still clinging to. “Come on, the raccoons are gone now. You scared them away. I can wait here for you while you…do your business.”

“Ohhhh, hold on, you mean Margaret Atwood, as in the writer, Handmaid’s Tale and all that. Love that show. Not sure I can watch season two. Never read the book, though.”

Somehow that didn’t surprise Ion, based on the ten minutes he’d already spent with the woman. Sexy as she was, she wasn’t that bright, or so it seemed. “Figures,” he said, eyeing her up and down, taking in the tight denim skirt that hugged her curvy ass, and two-inch heels. He’d bet money she was American. California specifically. Los Angeles, even more precisely. He had a knack for this. She was probably an extra on the movie.

Thank God he was just filling in for his buddy. Today was his last day, then it was back to his regular gigs in the city.

Jill had no idea what a Canadian “forest” was really like, did she? Women like that were not his taste, not at all, no way.
Devlin, Delilah. Men In Uniform Anthology. One Handed Reads. Kindle Locations (3881-3915). Kindle Edition.

Turns out Jill is the on set teacher for the teenage star of the film. A manipulative child at that. As he ends up complaining of a sprained ankle and gets his mother to take him into Toronto. Ion’s job requires him to follow them and Jill is requested as well.

This leads to a very hot, very sexy road trip with plenty of giggles.

Call Me Crazy
Rebecca Royce

Faith keeps calling Sheriff Wyatt about something odd she keeps seeing in her yard… But all he sees is one sexy woman he wants for a night of hot passion.

Wyatt has to quell some rumors, even before he gets another call from Faith about the ‘aliens’ in her yard.

Small town life is like that, everybody knowing everyone else’s business.

Wyatt doesn’t mind going out to check, he is very attracted to Faith and since she’s divorced, available. However he really shouldn’t pursue anything at least until this mystery is solved.

Her phone rang, and she stared down at it. Her neighbor way down the long block was calling. The woman’s daughter was the same age as the girls, and Faith answered knowing that she’d be calling to see if the girls could sleep over. This was the case almost every week now. Sometimes she found it intrusive that she wanted them over so much to be with her own daughter, but tonight it felt like kismet.

One way or another, she and Wyatt were going to need to have a difficult conversation. Her girls didn’t have to be home for this. Since Aimee was on her way home from the grocery store They were kindhearted and funny. Smart. Lovely. She and Robbie couldn’t have been too horrible if they’d managed to create such incredible people together.

She watched them go down the driveway just as Wyatt came back to the house. He lifted his hand to wave to Aimee. Faith didn’t know if they knew each other. She was a transplant from San Antonio, having followed her husband here a few years earlier, but Wyatt was polite to everyone. Faith had kept her eye on him when they encountered each other in town, even before her alien problem.

He wasn’t rushing around. Faith put her hands on her hips and lifted her chin. “I take it you didn’t find anything.”

“I’m afraid not.” He shook his head. “I’m going to say what I said before—it’s got to be some kind of animal.”

“Or a figment of my imagination,” she said, interrupting him. Faith had heard this before. “I’m not crazy and if you call me that, Wyatt, my head will explode and take yours along with it. And don’t you dare cite me for threatening a police officer.”

He threw his head back and laughed. It was a warm, lovely sound. Wyatt had shoulders that looked like they could hold up the world. That was a funny thought but a true one. Faith did a pretty good job on her small frame of keeping things in working order and making sure the universe didn’t crash down on their house. Still, it sure would be nice to have someone to share it with.

Or to help her decide not to make stupid decisions, like getting that tattoo she should have left alone and not had put on her lower back like a ridiculous midlife crisis. She had no business sporting a pyramid there. She hadn’t even had a good reason for the picture except she liked it.

Wyatt was ridiculously hot. It should be illegal to have shoulders that broad.

“I won’t call you crazy.” He held out his hands in front of him. “Once again, the only evidence I find is that the neighbor’s kids are playing too loudly. There’s probably a noise violation in there somewhere, but I’m not going to pursue it. “

Things heat up quickly between these two and the alien issue resolution was quite the twist.

The Navy SEAL’s Secret Baby
Kat Baxter

A hot NAVY SEAL, an awkward teacher, and a weekend of hot sex. It was supposed to be temporary, but a baby changes everything…

This was a fun read, starting off a little different when Jane walks up and kisses Kevin. Something that surprised and pleased him.

This was a favorite scene.

She leaned back and gave him a shy smile. She fingered the chain around his neck. “I’m hoping that your ball chain and buzz cut mean you’re not a terrible person.” Her voice was lower than he expected, sultry and husky and sexy as fuck. “I mean, people who join the army can’t be total creepers, right?” she continued. “Anyway, would you please go along with this and I’ll explain later?”

“Navy,” he said.

Her head tilted. “What?”

“You said army. I’m actually navy.”

Her mouth opened, but she said nothing else.

“Jane? Is that you?”

One of the hipsters sidled up beside them. He pushed up his dark-rimmed glasses. Damn tool even wore a plaid shirt, half tucked into his skinny jeans. A tall, thin blonde stood next to him, gripping one of his arms. Kevin resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Instead he pulled her—evidently Jane—closer so she stood in between his thighs, leaning against his chest. He wrapped one arm around her waist and let the other rest on her incredible breasts.

“Uh hey, Blake,” she said. “I didn’t realize you were back in town.”

The perky blonde next to him held up her hand then gave a little jump. “We’re engaged!”

Blake grabbed his fiancée’s hand and held it close to his side. “You look great, Jane.” Then his gaze flicked up to Kevin. “So, what’s going on with you two?”

Ah, so this must be an ex of hers, and she was using Kevin to make him jealous. Not his preferred scenario, but if it kept Jane in his arms, he would take it.

“Kevin,” he said to introduce himself then reached around Jane to grab the tool’s hand. “Janie and I are together.” He lowered his feet to the floor, off the barstool rungs, and pressed himself into her backside.

“Janie?” Blake asked. “I thought you hated being called anything but Jane.” The man frowned then again pushed up his dark-rimmed glasses.

“I don’t mind so much when Kevin says it.”

Kevin leaned forward and lowered his chin on her shoulder. “Super awesome to meet you.”

He felt certain that Jane suppressed a laugh as her stomach clenched beneath his arm.

Blake frowned then looked back to Jane. “Sure. Well, it was great seeing you, Jane,” he said, emphasizing her name. “Maybe we can catch up sometime.” His fiancée seemed annoyed by that thought, but he put his hand to her lower back and led her away. The three couples settled into a booth at the back corner.

Jane spun around and braced her hands on his thighs to keep herself from falling over. “Thank you.”

“Well, it was the least I could do after that kiss.” He gave her a smile.
Devlin, Delilah. Men In Uniform Anthology. One Handed Reads. Kindle Locations (2185-2208). Kindle Edition.

This leads to one very sizzling weekend. Kevin ships out and Jane finds she’s pregnant but can’t reach him since she’s not family.

While I enjoyed this book, it also contains one of my pet peeves, Jane calls Kevin a soldier, and even though he corrected her when she said army earlier, he doesn’t correct her for this. Navy is sailor, he would have corrected her.

In town for a few days from his job in the Coast Guard, Steve helps Lauren live out her sexual fantasy. But it’s the staying together part that’s challenging…

Lauren’s brother Mark had been Steve’s best friend and partner for Coast Guard rescues. A year later Steve still blames himself, but attends the memorial for his friend at his sister’s request.

Lauren has always had a fantasy about Steve, and Steve likes her a bit more than just a little. However the pain of Mark’s death hangs over them.

This is a favorite scene.

“I—I…” She stared up at him with wide unblinking eyes he knew were cat’s eye green. “I’m sorry… I thought you would want to be here. To see what kind of an impact you had on Mark. He loved you like a brother, you know.”

“Yeah, I know. And I let him down. I let him fucking die, Lauren. Don’t you get that? I,” he pressed a hand flat against his chest as she shook his head, “let him die. I didn’t go back for him.”

“You couldn’t!” Her voice rose to a shout that was even louder than his, loud enough that people across the street stopped to stare at them. “Steve, I know what happened. Commander Shaw explained it when he told us about Mark. You were already hurt, the storm was getting worse, and if you hadn’t come in, they’d have lost you as well.”

He spun away from her with a muttered, “Bullshit,” and turned to make his way to the Accord.

But Lauren was as tenacious as her brother had been and followed him, saying, “It’s not bullshit, Steve, and you know it. You know it, and I know it, and everyone else does as well. The only one who blames you for Mark dying is you.”

“Which is a hell of a thing to live with.” He was at the Honda now and pushed the button to deactivate the security system. The locks popped. The headlights and interior light came on. But he didn’t open the door. He turned back to see Lauren not three feet from him. She had to be freezing, as she had no coat but just wore that damn black dress made of some sort of body hugging fabric designed to make men walk into things when they caught sight of her.

He shrugged out of his jacket once more and draped it around her, and this time, she let him. “Ren, you have no idea what happened that night.”

“I do.” The shout was gone from her voice. Exhaustion crept into its place. She stepped closer, a hand coming to rest on his chest. She held his gaze, her eyes wide and glittering in the halo of the streetlights. Damn, her eyes were beautiful. She was beautiful. “I do, Steve. And it wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t.”

Without thinking, he leaned into her. Her lips were warm and soft, parting as they met his, and her tongue darted out to caress his. He groaned. He couldn’t help it.

Ready for Trouble
Tina Donahue

Jake loves his job as a cop and loves the steamy Florida women more—as long as they’re into casual. And that means hands off his boss’s sister…

This one starts off with a bit of doubt and some almost misunderstandings. Jake is on vacation and the first thing that happens is a burst pipe in the garage by his washer and dryer. The plumber recommended by his fellow cops leads to a female plumber and one of my favorite scenes.

He took her in. Damn, even her work boots were epic. Not clunky like a guy’s, but dainty, flowers carved into the leather. She didn’t wear a wedding or engagement ring. As soon as the plumber arrived and took over this mess, Jake intended to find out as much as he could about her. “Where is he?”

“Manny?”

“The plumber.”

“That would be me. Krista.” She pointed at the name embroidered on her shirt.

He warned himself not to stare at her tight nipples pressing against the cotton.

“And you’re Officer Brennan.”

Only because his buddies at the station had told her so. “How would you know that unless you spoke to the guys?”

“It says so right here.” She tapped her clipboard but eyed his tat. “You reported a leak, said cost was no object, you were in a hurry since you’re on vacation from the Coral Vale force, and that as law enforcement you’d appreciate a quick response—like what you and the guys do when you’re called in on an incident, which might happen even on your days off.”

He didn’t recall talking so much, saying anything about zipping to incidents or being pulled from his vacation time. By his recollection, he’d simply begged for someone to get here fast. Given how she struggled not to smile, she had to be toying with him.

Toy away. He enjoyed her teasing. “That’s not how I remember it. I’d like to see that.” He reached for her clipboard.

She held it behind herself and gave him a look mothers offer their wayward sons before smacking them in the head.

“I take it that’s the burst pipe?” She jabbed her thumb in its direction.

Her gaze drifted back to his pecs. He resisted the urge to flex them, not wanting to act like a douche. Apparently, she was the plumber and didn’t know Manny or the guys. Her being here was legit. Was this country great or what?

“Yep, that’s it. I turned off the water.”

She regarded the new puddle forming beneath his dripping underwear. “On the main valve?”

“No. Should I have done so?”

“I’ll get it. While I do, turn on the faucets in the house and flush the toilets…if you don’t mind.”

He wasn’t certain if she was pulling his leg or not. Her playful look said she might be. “Because?”

“To drain the remaining water from the pipes so I can fix the broken one and be on my way.”

Suddenly, he didn’t want her leaving. She was something. Certainly nothing he’d imagined. “Sure.” Not budging, he gestured in appeasement. “Sorry about not thinking…uh, believing…that is, knowing you’re the plumber.”
Devlin, Delilah. Men In Uniform Anthology. Kindle Locations (133-156). One Handed Reads. Kindle Edition.

One amusing twist, Krista is also his Sergeant’s little sister. Keeping things hidden leads to some hilarity as does the different and somewhat educational outings Krista plans for them.

Definitely a bad girl in good girl clothing matched up with a Sexy bad boy.

Plenty of laughter and sizzling as these two find their happily ever after.

Reyes’s Raina – Heroes For Hire Book 18 by Dale Mayer

Reyes’s Raina
Heroes For Hire Book 18
By
NY Times & USA Today Bestselling Author
Dale Mayer

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

He once picked the wrong woman…
he won’t make that mistake again.

Reyes Drere came from a long line of gardeners. He’d known since he was little which way his life was going to go and it had nothing to do with planting seasons. When he joined Legendary Securities after eight years as a Navy SEAL he’d been avoiding going home and joining the family business.

The family business included an ex-fiancé he had no wish to see again. Her sister was a good friend but there was nothing more dead than a dead love – unless it was a dead ex-fiancé…

Raina is reeling from the shock of seeing the only man she’s ever loved showing up at work one day, his new boss in tow. Ice is all about plants on a grand scale, whereas Reyes appears to be all about denial.

Only the shocks continue as her twin and Reyes ex-fiancé show up dead… and he’s the one with a motive…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

I am behind on this series so I definitely have catching up to do. But this book came up so here I am at the most recent of this series instead of the beginning.

Ice has decided to add plants to the landscape around the pool at the compound. To accomplish this she recruits Reyes whose family owns a large nursery in California.

Now Reyes hasn’t been home in two years, not since he broke off with his fiancé. Nothing says welcome home more than having a conversation with your ex’s sister in the middle of the store, and having your ex walk in and slap you.

Reana is a volatile woman, much like Reyes’ mother. Women who control with anger and abusive behavior. Her twin sister Raina is the opposite and frequently finds herself apologizing for Reana’s behavior.

To Reyes’ surprise, his mother steps in to quell the scene unfolding. However the lies Reana has told everyone will soon haunt him.

Things settle and Ice and Reyes go to her father’s for the night and Raina heads home. Her mother interrupts her late with calls regarding her sister.

After several of those calls Raina calls Vince, friends with both her and Reyes. He offers to check on Reana and also calls Reyes and sets up a breakfast date.

That breakfast changes this whole trip for all of them.

This is a favorite scene.

She couldn’t help but catch the grin on Vince’s face and how his eyes lit up at Reyes’s words. “Well, there you go. Now you got his attention,” she muttered.

The men continued to talk. She listened, not part of the conversation. She pulled out her phone yet again and checked for a message from her sister, but there were none.

Her phone rang while she was holding it though. “Hi, Mom. I’m at a restaurant with friends,” she said. “I haven’t heard any updates from Reana.”

“Neither have I,” her mother said, her voice drawn and tired. “I’d hoped to sleep in this morning, but apparently I can’t.”

“I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything,” Raina said. She hung up and placed the phone beside her knife and fork.

The food arrived slowly, with the coconut pancakes first. By the time she got her plate, the men were already digging in. But then she was eating about half the amount they were. She had a traditional waffle with a fried egg and sausage on the side.

As she finished her last bite, placing her knife and fork on her plate, she looked up to see two police officers walking into the coffee shop. They stood at the entrance, their gazes slowly moving across the patrons. When they landed at her table, her heart sank.

“Uh-oh,” she said. “This doesn’t look good.”

Reyes looked at her with a frown. “What the devil do they want?” he muttered.

The men stacked their dirty plates to the side and reached for their coffee, almost as a defense mechanism. When the officers arrived, they looked at the three of them.

The first one asked, “Which one of you is Reyes?”

“I am,” Reyes said. “What can I do for you?”

Instead of answering him, they looked at Raina and asked, “Are you Raina Woodcroft?”

Slowly she nodded her head, her heart sinking even further. “What’s this about?”

“We need to know where you were last night.” But they didn’t direct it at anybody in particular. It seemed like the police wanted to know where each of them had been last night.

“I was at home alone,” Raina said.

Reyes popped up next. “I was with my boss at her father’s house.” He rattled off the address.

“The whole night?”

Reyes frowned. “Yes, the whole night.”

“Can anyone vouch for that?”

She watched a stillness cross his face. “Well, I was with both of them up until I went to bed, and that was about eleven o’clock. Then I got up this morning, had a quick cup of coffee with the two of them before Vince picked me up for breakfast.”

“Did you sleep alone last night?”

He replaced the cup of coffee on the table in front of him, nodding slowly. “Yes, I did. But there is security at the house, and I’m sure it would record whoever was coming and going.”

The two officers exchanged a look and continued to write on their notepads.

Reyes repeated, “What’s going on?”

But they insisted on questioning Vince on his movements and then questioning Raina again.

Finally she couldn’t stand it. “Is this about my sister?”

The officers turned their gazes on her. “What about your sister?”

“We can’t find her,” she said boldly.
Dale Mayer. Reyes’s Raina (Kindle Locations 708-736). Valley Publishing Ltd.

A suspect now in a murder, Reyes calls Ice who smooths things over a bit, but the circumstances of the initial interview have consequences that complicate everything more.

Reyes becomes Raina’s sole support as her world falls apart, and he finds he can’t deny his feelings for her any longer. Pleasantly surprised to find those feelings are reciprocated.

Plenty of emotion, suspense and family drama all around as this tale unfolds with just enough heat.

ARC Review of Justice by the Lawman – Lawmen of Wyoming: Mountain Force Book 1 by Rhonda Lee Carver

Justice By The Lawman
Lawmen of Wyoming
Mountain Force Book 1
By
Rhonda Lee Carver

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

The series, Lawmen of Wyoming,
continues with the Mountain Force.

Ink artist, Wisdom Chantel, has spent most of her adult life disconnecting herself from her mob boss father. Keeping her secrets in the past meant keeping everyone at arm’s length and she had become a pro at being alone. When her sister goes missing, she is willing to do anything to get Corri back, even if that means digging deep for her buried family roots and taking down the man who ruined her life.

A year after his partner was murdered by the Blue Diamond cartel, Special Agent Seb Foster is no closer in catching the kingpin, although he sleeps, eats and breathes the mission to bring the criminals to justice. When a clue leads him to a spunky, beautiful woman in need of help, he has no choice but to lend a hand, especially when he suspects she has a connection to the men who killed Sanchez.

Trapped in the Wyoming mountains in a snowstorm with gunmen on their trail, Wisdom will have to trust Seb, but how can she hide her secrets when they’re tattooed on her skin? Will he ever see her for who she is now and not a Blue Diamond?

Seb Foster almost lost everything when his partner died. She was more than his partner on the job, she was his lover and best friend. One thing kept him going, take down the Blue Diamond Cartel, the people responsible for her death.

Willow likes living her life alone in the mountains, a talented artist she has a tattoo studio in a small town. The reasons she ended up there are many but she has to reevaluate those reasons when her sister goes missing. Her step-mother seems to think every time Corri goes down the wrong path it’s Willow’s responsibility to make it right again. This time it’s different, and only one thing can make it right.

Now Willow puts out feelers for a hit man, and what she gets is Seb. Their first meeting didn’t go as well as she hoped but the second did go better.

This is a favorite scene.

Lowering his eyes to her chest, he shrugged. “I didn’t search you today.”

“And you won’t. You came to my place of business unexpectedly, remember?” She rolled her eyes. “But if it makes you feel better.” She pulled up her shirt in a flash of black bra.

“Satisfied?”

He was, but his body certainly wasn’t. His jeans suddenly became two sizes too small. What the hell was wrong with him? “If you want my help, you’ll answer some questions. Otherwise, maybe this is useless—” He started to stand but her hand clutching his elbow stopped him. He sat back down.

“What do you want to know?”

“The Blue Diamond. What’s the connection?”

After several long seconds and a roll of the tip of her tongue along her glistening bottom lip, she sighed. “I think that’s who Corri is involved with.”

“You think, or know that she is?”

“I know. Dimitri Vallarta.”

It took all his strength to keep from showing too much interest. “Vallarta is the boyfriend?”

“Yes.” She cleared her throat.

“He hasn’t sold her?”

“No. Not yet.”

“She’s as good as gone.”

“She’s alive. For now.”

“You know a lot about the cartel,” he accused.

“Why does it matter?” She darted a glance around the room. Maybe looking for listeners? “She called me two weeks ago. Corri wants to come home, but I think Dimitri won’t let her.”

“That’s very likely.”

“So, can you help?”

“Lady, a man would have to be pretty stupid to mess with the Blue Diamond.”

Her shoulders slumped and Seb felt his stomach twist. “I’m going to get her back. One way or another. I’ll do it myself if I have to.”

Picking up his cup, he took a long sip of his now cold coffee, keeping his gaze on her. He could see that she meant every word. If she wasn’t careful, she’d find herself in the same fucked-up situation as her sister, and for an unknown reason, that bothered the hell out of him. “How long has she been missing?”

“Five months. She signed herself out of the rehabilitation facility and things took a downward spiral. We were living together and one morning I got up and all her things were gone. There was a note left on the refrigerator basically saying she needed to find herself.”

“Maybe she just hasn’t found herself yet.”

“That’s not like Corri. She’s made a lot of mistakes, but just up and leaving isn’t like her.”

“Unless she had someone convincing her?”

“Someone who supplies her with a steady flow.”

“Blow?”

“Yes. Corri has always been headstrong. Always wanting to prove that she knows what’s best.”

Seb rubbed his forehead, monitoring what he said that wouldn’t worry her, but no matter how he sliced this, the truth was grim. “This won’t be easy.” That’s all he could manage. He could understand how she would want to do this. After all, he’d spent the last year eating, breathing, and sleeping the Blue Diamond cartel. He would get so close to finding a breach in their armor, and then he’d fall flat on his face. This had become his legacy, to bring down the bastards for not only killing Sanchez, but also all the other lives they’d contributed to ending too early.

She fell quiet for a length of time. “I’m prepared.”
Rhonda Carver. JusticebytheLawmanfinalwithtoc (Kindle Locations 793-821). Kindle Edition.

There are many things going on in this book. Willow has lots of secrets that could help with this investigation but doesn’t quite trust Seb. At least not until they both end up with targets on their backs.

A page turning, action packed read with lots of suspense, drama, intrigue, betrayal and sizzling heat.

Time travel has never really been my thing, but this book managed to grab me. Ethan knows Prenna is different, he was there when she appeared in his time. However he can’t seem to get her to talk to him.

Prenna has rules she has to follow or she will be punished, and if you go too far you can end up permanently gone. She has been falling for Ethan since she started school, she doesn’t know why but she can’t seem to let it go.

A fast-paced and intriguing, with a scary peek into the future. As Ethan and Prenna work to find the thing that caused her time to be so bleak and fix it. They also find love.

I laughed, cried and held my breath as this story unfolded. A truly enjoyable YA read.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002 smashwords_logo

I have this book as part of Masters and Mercenaries: The Early Ops which contains the first five books in the series. I am reviewing them individually as I read.

Being in London is hard for Liam, so close to where his life went to hell. His brother and several others dead before a bomb took out the building. He shouldn’t have survived but he did. He just can’t remember it all.

Avery has been working for a mostly reclusive philanthropist, Thomas Molina. A man who’s decided it’s time to be more active in his charity workings. There’s something fishy with some of the shipments and someone needs to get close to Avery and see if she’s innocent or not.

It’s decided that Liam should be the one to approach Avery and the rest of the team settles in as neighbors.

This is a favorite scene when Liam makes his move.

Mummies. She forced herself to concentrate. She felt a smile cross her lips. It was so much nicer when her rambling thoughts were about mummies and historical sites than bedpans and whether or not her legs would ever work again. Or where her baby was now that she wasn’t in her arms.

“It can’t be all that bad. I don’t think he minds being stuck in here.”

Avery started, a deep voice pulling her from the edge of a very dark thought. She turned on her heels and, as any sudden movement was likely to do, her weak leg buckled underneath her. She started the long trip to the ground, except this time she was headed straight for the ancient, probably priceless, mummy. God, she was going to set off all kinds of alarms and get kicked out of the museum and maybe out of England, and then she would have to find a new job and who would want a woman who’d been arrested for molesting mummified corpses?

And just like that, she stopped. Two big arms wrapped around her, lifting her away from the oncoming chaos.

“You okay?”

Without even thinking about it, her arms drifted up and around his neck, fingertips brushing warm, deliciously firm skin. The dark-haired man she’d seen before, the one she’d fantasized about last night, held her in his arms. Curly, midnight-black hair and emeralds for eyes. He was dressed for sin in a black motorcycle jacket and a T-shirt that molded to his very well-defined chest. Did he have to buy them one size too small? Did he have to walk around like a big old gorgeous man cupcake when she’d been on a diet for so long?

“Lost the power of speech? Well, that guy’s ugly mug would do that to me, too.”

She’d thought for sure he was British. She’d fantasized about a lyrical accent coming out of his mouth, but no, his voice was pure Midwestern American. And she should say something since the man was still standing there holding her like she was his virgin bride or something. Virgin. She wasn’t. Unless it grew back after too many years of vaginal disuse. God, say something, Avery. “I’m so sorry.”

His lips curled up in a flirty smile. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. He was the single most beautiful man she’d ever seen. Even if that smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I think I’m the one who should apologize. I didn’t mean to startle you. It just seemed like it was time that I should talk to you. I’ve been following you around for days. We seem to have the same tastes in museums.”

He’d noticed her, too? That was odd. She typically blended into the background, when she wasn’t falling down. She was well aware she wasn’t a great beauty. She wasn’t horrific, but she fell into a bland attractiveness that usually required a forceful personality to go along with it in order to be truly pretty. She wasn’t exactly aggressive. She was more a “watch from a distance and dream” kind of girl.

There was no distance between them now. None at all. She could feel the heat of his body against hers, the hardness of his form. How long had it been since she’d been held? Touched? Nothing for years that didn’t include a therapist massaging muscles to keep them from atrophying. Her mother-in-law hadn’t touched her once since she’d discovered what Avery had done. No more motherly hugs. Even the few friends she’d had back home had treated her like she was fragile. No touching allowed or someone would break Avery. Gorgeous Green Eyes didn’t seem to think she would break. His arms were tight around her body, cradling her to his chest.

“Can I put you down? Do you think you can stand?”

She felt herself flush. She was making a complete idiot of herself. He’d only reached out because she’d fallen. Again. Would she ever again feel like she had control over her body? “Yes. I’m fine. I’m so sorry for the whole nearly killing a mummy thing.”

He set her on her feet, holding her until he seemed sure she was steady. He smiled down at her, definite amusement in his eyes. They seemed so much warmer now than a moment before. “I think he’s already dead, sweetheart. Now on the other hand, you nearly gave the security guy a heart attack.”

She gasped and looked around. Sure enough, there was the museum employee in his suit coat with his walkie-talkie at his side. His face was slightly flushed, but he’d taken his place again.

“Think nothing of it, ma’am. Women faint dead away at the sight all the time.” The security guard winked her way.

Avery gave him a smile. “Well, maybe Egypt is too much for my constitution. I think I’ll go have some lunch and fortify myself against the sight.” It was really time to retreat. Deep breath. Confident smile. She turned back to the hottie. That’s what all the girls back in the New York offices called someone who looked like Green Eyes. Hotties. They were right. She could really use a fan. “Thank you so much for the save.”

“Not a problem.” He seemed to be waiting on something.

It was an awkward moment, but then much of her life was made up of them. “Good-bye.”

She turned carefully and hoped she could make a graceful exit.

“So what sounds good? I think there’s a fish and chips place across the street.” Hottie kept pace, not that it was hard for him. He was so much taller. He probably took one stride to her two slightly awkward ones.

She stopped. He was doing the flirting thing. Why? He was obviously out of her league. She wasn’t good at stuff like this. He was far more gorgeous than Simon, and she couldn’t figure out why he was pursuing her beyond the obvious career implications. This guy didn’t even know her name. She decided to try to be polite. Maybe he felt sorry for her. “Thank you for the offer. I really can make my way. Thanks so much for the save.”

“You’re welcome,” he replied, not moving at all. He simply stood in front of the stairs, blocking her way. “You don’t like fish and chips? You do know you’re in England, right?”

“Yes, I know I’m in England.” Flustered. He was making her flustered. “I like fish and chips fine.”

He smiled broadly. “Excellent. I could use a pint. I need some fortification before we get back to the mummies, too. Seriously, these are some ugly dudes. Why would anyone want their body to last this long? I want to immediately be cremated.”

“It was part of their religion. They needed a body if they were to go to the afterlife. I’m pretty sure they didn’t imagine they would end up in a museum thousands of miles away with tourists ogling them.” She started to make an argument about tolerance for other religions, but that was really beside the point. “I didn’t ask you to go to lunch with me.”

He nodded, leaning out of the way so others could come into the hall, but still blocking her advance. “Yes, you forgot to. I admit it was rude, but I’ve decided to believe that you were distracted after your near miss with old Tut back there.”

“That wasn’t King Tut.”

He shrugged. “Yeah, I’m not enormously big on Egyptian history. So we’ve decided that you’re distractible and it totally affects your social skills, but luckily I’m a very focused guy and I can be polite enough for both of us. I can teach you how the polite world works.” He held out a big hand. “Lee Donnelly. I work in construction back in the States. I recently finished a huge renovation job back in Dallas and gave myself two months off to come visit some friends here in London. This is the part where you shake my hand and tell me your name and what you do.”

“Avery Charles.” He’d kind of put her in a corner. There was nothing to do except take his hand. She quickly found her own hand completely wrapped in his. Warmth flooded her system. He had strong hands, callused and rough from work, but so nice to touch. Lee. She liked that name. It was solid and masculine and simple. “I’m the personal assistant to a man who runs a charity fund.”

He nodded at her like she was a slow learner who had finally caught on. “See, that wasn’t so hard. And do you live here in London?”

She kind of wanted to run away, but she had the sudden sense that he would follow, and he would be so much faster. She was caught. Trapped. So why shouldn’t she enjoy the afternoon with the most beautiful man she’d ever met? There wasn’t any harm in it. She spent so much time alone that it would be nice to have a meal with a handsome stranger, and he was obviously at loose ends. He probably felt as out of place as she did and was looking for some company. Despite the fact that the employees of United One Fund were friendly, no one asked her to have lunch with them. They had their own cliques and friendships, and it would be that way everywhere she and Thomas went.

What could it hurt to make a friend? He was probably looking for someone to buy him lunch. It might be nice to have someone to talk to.

“I’m from New York,” she replied, allowing her shoulders to come down from around her ears. Now that she’d made the choice to get to know him, she found herself eager to ask him a few questions. “Are you from Dallas?”

“Not originally, though I’ve spent the last several years there. Wow. It’s getting late. Time flies when you’re having fun.” He moved out of the doorway, his hand moving in a graceful gesture. “Let’s go grab some grub as they would say in my neck of the woods. I’m starving.”

She followed him out of the museum, hoping all the while she wasn’t making a mistake.

Hard Truths – Kiss Her Goodbye Book 1 by Rebecca Royce

Hard Truths
Kiss Her Goodbye Book 1

I’m Everly Marrs, and I’ll be damned
before I lose myself to the men that kidnapped me.

I had plans, big plans. I had my pretty little life outlined: Graduate school and get a job in social work—maybe even one day marry a nice man who actually knew what he was doing in bed. But everything changed when I woke up in a strange place with five men who insisted I call them D, W, J, K, and T.

The Letters.

They told me that the world wasn’t what it seemed. I lived my life thinking that I was in control of my own destiny, but in actuality they controlled everything. The world was their playground and I was just another ant, marching in line to the beat of their drum.

The Letters kidnapped me to force my father’s hand, and they couldn’t promise me safe passage. I knew my place in all of this but still found myself losing who I was to their games.

I’m Everly Marrs, and I’ll save myself if I have to.

Kidnapped but being somewhat treated like a guest, Everly has questions. Like millions of questions. Her captors K, T, J, D and W don’t seem to want her to know their names but they don’t care if she sees their faces. They need her father to correct something he changed that has caused numerous problems for them.

After determining their was no escape from where she was being held, Everly sets out to learn more about her captors. What she finds is disturbing, yet she is intrigued. The Alliance is something she shouldn’t know about, yet she is finding out because of her father and the things he has done.

This is a favorite scene because, sheets.

“You missed dinner. T says you have a headache.” As if mentioning it made it flare back to life, the pounding, which had dulled, rushed back into existence.

“I do.” Why was he bothering me about this?

J held out his hand. “I realized you might not have what you need.”

I practically ripped the medicine out of his hand. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Take some and if you find yourself hungry, I’ve asked Constance to keep food for you tonight in the fridge so you can warm it.” He stepped back. “Feel better, Everly. I know you’ve had a long day. Good work with T’s job issue by the way. Hugely well done.”

I wanted to ask him more about that, but I also wanted to take my pills. “Thanks. I need some water.”

He stepped into the room, looking around. I guessed he intended to stay for a minute. I made my way to the bathroom and poured some water into a cup. I took the pills. I really needed them to work fast. Sometimes, the time between taking meds and the onset of relief were the longest of the whole ordeal.

I walked back into the room. He stared out the window. “Nice view from in here. I have the other view. I never come to this side of the house.”

“It’s huge.” What was I supposed to say to him? Thank you for giving me a nice room to stay in while you hold me hostage?

He nodded. “Initially, the whole thing was built so a great-grandfather could take people bird hunting. As far as the locals are concerned, that is what we still do here. We kill birds.”

“D killed a deer today.”

J nodded. “Yes, I heard all about it. Quite a mess he made hauling that thing through the house. D can be downright savage, but he means well. Most of the time. I guess we’ll be eating venison. Not my favorite game. But it is local. And we imported the damn things to shoot them last year, so I guess it’s good he’s hunting them before they run out of food and starve.”

I sat down on the edge of the bed. “I don’t have the slightest idea what to say to you right now.”

He turned around. “Are you comfortable in here?”

“No.” If I’d been a guest I’d never had said that. My southern manners dictated certain behaviors. I hadn’t had a mother around and my father didn’t notice small things, but I’d had plenty of women to teach me what was and wasn’t to be said. Not once had anyone dictated to me the proper way to speak to the man who held me hostage. He wanted to know if I was comfy? Fine, I’d tell him the truth.

“What’s not working?” He looked around.

I shook my head. “The sheets are horrible. The comforter is scratchy. I hate them.”

J leaned over and touched the bedding. “You’re right. These are awful.”

I blinked. I’d kind of thought to piss him off. After the incident with Trace, my every response was raw and miserable. I didn’t expect him to agree with me.

He looked up. “I’m going to find out what happened to your bedding. If we don’t have it, we’ll get you something better. You might be here awhile. I don’t want to sleep on that. I don’t blame you.”

This was too much. “J, I’m your prisoner. You could lock me in a dungeon and leave me there to rot on gruel.”

“Everly, let me tell you something. If the rest of The Alliance were to find out what your father did, they would come for you and that is exactly where you would find yourself. I’ve been in those places. Be glad it’s only us blaming him for now.”

I had been kidding. “There can’t really be dungeons left. I mean, not in the civilized world. Sure in places I would never want to be, but there aren’t dungeons here in your basement or wherever you live when you’re not here, right?”

I didn’t know why I wanted to know, but suddenly knowing felt pivotal.

“There is no such thing as the civilized world. We only pretend there is. That’s not the question you wanted to ask me.”

I swallowed. “Sure it is.”

“No, it’s not. You wanted to ask me what your father did. What crime or wrongdoing did the man commit to land you here, stuck with us, trying to figure out your way?”

I supposed I did want to know. It was hard for me to think of my father at all. As T had pointed out, he wasn’t the man I’d thought him to be. I didn’t know how to deal. “Well, I know he kills people. I know he has basically abandoned me here. So yes, I suppose I ought to know.
Royce, Rebecca. Hard Truths (Kiss Her Goodbye Book 1) (pp. 61-63). Rebecca Royce. Kindle Edition.

Things heat up in more ways than one and being on the run with her captors proves to be interesting, educating and dangerous.

The places she ends up are truly unique as are the men associated with them. In spite of the circumstances that brought them together, they are forming relationships with Everly, extremely hot and sensuous ones.

I’m glad book two is out since I really need to know what happens next since it is a bit of a cliffhanger. I have a feeling book two will be as well but I can deal since the third book is already up for pre-order.

Rebecca Royce Rebecca Royce

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I’ve been told I’m a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you’ll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

I’d love to hear from you!
