A Fey’s Wolf – Mystic Wolves Book 5 By Elle Boon

A Fey’s Wolf
Mystic Wolves Book 6
USA Today Bestselling Author
Elle Boon

When a wolf catches the scent of his mate, he’ll do anything to claim and protect her, even if that means protecting the little Fey from himself.

An Enforcer…

Torq’s place among the Mystic Wolves gave him the freedom to search for his mate, but when he finds her, he realizes things aren’t as easy as he’d hoped they’d be. However, years of honing his skills have proven he was more than the man and wolf for the injured Fey.

A Powerful Fey…

Talia’s tired of hiding but isn’t quite ready to make that final step as a normal female after years of captivity. Hiding out on the Fey Realm seemed like another form of being caged, however being caught in the sights of a shifter far larger than any man she’d ever seen was more than she’d bargained for.

A Plan Set In Motion…

Things don’t always go as planned, but when the Goddess puts two of her people together, she assumes things will end up how they should. However, outside forces realize a powerful Fey are within their grasps and want what they didn’t have…a link to the Fey Realm.

Will the wolf and his Fey have a chance to find their happily ever after, or will they be destroyed before they get the chance?

Torq is thinking of leaving the Mystic Wolves. His mate is unattainable in the Fey realm and he’s not sure how long he can keep it together.

After her rescue from Keith’s dungeon, Talia more than anything needed the peace and respite only going home could give her. She really couldn’t handle anything other than that, not even a visit with her daughters and their mates.

After a serious training session and talk with Belle, she applies for a position with the Mystic Lodge. The position also comes with a furnished cottage, which is where Torq finds her.

This is a favorite scene.

When Torq had first felt the pull to come to the Mystic Pack, just a few hours from the Iron Wolves, he couldn’t explain the draw. The emotions that had bombarded him when he’d arrived was nothing out of the ordinary. He’d searched the members, scenting the unmated females for one who called to his wolf, but had found nothing that made the surly animal wake up and say Mine. Not until he’d been part of the mission that had went into the compound to help another member, Jett Tremaine and his mate Taryn, find her mother, or at least answers. He’d known as soon as he’d stepped foot inside the concrete building his mate was near. What he hadn’t expected was the emaciated female, who smelled like honey and wild flowers, to be that woman, and also be Taryn’s mother. A Fey who’d been tortured for years.

His grip on the handle bars tightened, making the bike shoot forward. Goddess, even half starved and terrified, Talia was the most gorgeous female he’d ever set eyes on. His wolf had snarled at him, wanting to claim her there and then, but the wariness in her luminescent blue eyes kept his dominance in check. Torq had thought he’d have time to woo her, show her not all men were like the fucker who…he shut down the train of thought, knowing he’d be a growly bastard if he didn’t.

The sight of the huge mountain lodge came into view. He still wondered why she’d returned but hadn’t contacted the pack, or why the Fey hadn’t told Niall. Payton and the other Fey who began gathering on pack lands in the last couple years were working to fortify the wards, ensuring all who came to Mystic would be safe. A haven of sorts, which Niall and Zayn were still trying to wrap their heads around. None of them had planned to increase the pack, only wanting to protect those within the small family they had. However, the Fey had other plans.

He signaled for the turn, letting his nose and wolf lead him to the woman who called to them. Their mate. Goddess, he hoped like hell she felt the pull too. Torq didn’t think he had the strength to allow her to leave him again.

The road leading from the main lodge wasn’t as smooth, clearly it’s wasn’t one the guests used, making him regret not bringing his truck. He slowed his Harley, easing over the ruts and holes. His wolf banged against his skull as the sight of the small cabin came into view. The Harley rumbled to a stop several feet from the porch. He took a deep breath, taking in all the scents around him. An overly perfumed female had been there recently as well as several males, making both he and his wolf snarl. Their scents clearly a day or so old, while he knew for a fact Talia had only returned to Earth this morning. In his head, he thought of the reasons for the others presence at his mate’s cabin, but then, common sense had him shoving jealousy aside. Being a new employee, maybe they’d come to clean, move shit, or whatever hotel employees did for managers.

“Fuck,” he growled, looking up through the trees.

“Are you going to sit out there all day and be snarly, or are you going to come inside?”

Torq had to push his animal side down along with his dick, which was pressing at the zipper of his jeans. “Good afternoon, Talia,” he said, taking in her appearance. No longer did she look like a waif who’d fall over in a stiff wind. Goddess, he had no clue how gorgeous she truly was. Although admittedly, she was stunning even when she wasn’t at her best. “You look well.” Such an understatement.

She tilted her head to the side, the dark hair, which had hints of blue when the lighting hit it, flowed over her shoulder. He kept his fingers around the grips of the handle bars lest he jump off the bike and do what he wanted, and that was wrap those silky tresses around his fist and hold her head in place while he kissed her.

“Come inside. I think we have much to—discuss.” She turned, her ass encased in a pair of denim that lovingly cupped a heart shaped bottom he really wanted to explore.

Before he realized what he was doing, he’d already dismounted his bike, keys stuffed into his pocket as he strode the few feet to her porch.

Once he was at the door, he paused, taking a calming breath followed by another. He couldn’t do what he and his wolf wanted. Mark and claim her for all to see. No, he’d need to tread lightly. Damn, he was going to be taking a lot of runs and cold showers. “This is a nice place,” he remarked from the doorway.

Talia nodded. “It’s even nicer inside.” Her shy smile made his heart jerk. She was nervous.

His lips tilted up in a wry grin.

“Want me to take my boots off?” They didn’t have any mud or shit on them, but he thought he’d be a gentleman and offer.

“Please, just come in and stop treating me with kid gloves. I’m much older than you or any wolf on this mountain. Trust me, I’m not a fragile fucking flower that’s going to wilt if you—be you.”

Her gruff words had him moving forward, encroaching into her personal space. “I didn’t mean to make you feel like a fragile anything. I just don’t want to scare you.”
Boon, Elle. A Fey’s Wolf (Mystic Wolves Book 5) (pp. 29-33). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

There is almost overwhelming attraction between these two, but it’s a strange sort of shared memory that triggers a sense of unease in both of them. More Talia than Torq as he describes the reason he is calling her farfalla, ‘butterfly’.

Lots of dark and evil as they trace the origin. Talia and Torq have a bond that goes beyond just a mating one, and she needs to connect with her children as well as the pack.

A page turning read with a great lead into the next book which will feature Taryn’s friend Sky.

Easton – SEALs of Honor Book 13 By Dale Mayer

SEALs of Honor Book 13
USA Today Bestselling Author
Dale Mayer

Trips to Canada’s wilderness for joint military training are something Easton always enjoys. But meeting the photographer contracted to take pictures of the base and trainees for new marketing materials adds a whole new twist to the trip.

A twist Easton quickly realizes has a dark undertone.

Summer knows she gets lost in her art to the point she’s been called ditzy, forgetful and many other less pleasant names. But her passionate nature has an outlet, and she loves traveling for her work. It also means she doesn’t always take care of herself as she should.

When she’s stalked, then attacked, Easton soon realizes Summer has stepped into something dangerous and needs his help to stay alive.

Especially when the violence escalates…and he comes close to losing the one woman he can’t seem to stay away from.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Poor Easton, he was hooked almost on the first page and didn’t even realize it, but the rest of his team did. Nothing like an absent-minded photographer to cause all the protective instincts of a SEAL to kick in.

Summer is the photographer for this international military training event featuring a new water purification system. Her goal is to capture photographs to be featured in brochures. Like many artists she tends to get lost in her work, but for her it can also cause blood sugar problems. Add that to her leaving her bag everywhere as she focuses through the lens and you have a recipe for disaster.

The really fun part of all this is the banter between Summer and Easton with the added hilarity of Ryder, Devlin and Corey.

This is one of many favorite scenes.

Easton tried hard not to keep a close eye on her as she ate. If he saw the motion of her fork out of the corner of his eye, he was content to ignore her as she seemed to be following his orders. When he chanced a glance at the other men, it was to find huge grins. He scowled at Corey especially. But it had the opposite effect than he wanted. Corey laughed.

Summer lifted her gaze to study him, paused for a long moment and then asked, “What’s so funny?”

Corey was past the point of being able to answer her. He shook his head and tried to control his chuckles. The trouble was, the others were in the same state.

“He has these fits every once in a while,” Easton said. “Just try to be understanding.”

Then the others got off on Corey’s contagious laughter as well. She glared at them all suspiciously, then turned on Easton. “Are they making fun of me?”

His eyebrows rose. “No, they aren’t.”

“Seems like they’re laughing at me.”

She turned her glare at one of them. The men were beside themselves at this point.

Easton popped the last forkful into his mouth, waited until he was done chewing, threw down his fork and knife on the plate and pushed back. When she still hadn’t resumed eating, he again pointed at her plate. “Eat.”

She rounded on him. “Why are they laughing at me?”

“They aren’t laughing at you. They’re laughing at me,” he snapped. He shoved his face into hers, making sure she turned and ate again.

Instead she picked up her fork and held it like a knife, threatening to stab his hand on her chair. “Why would they laugh at you?”

He stared at her fork in astonishment. “You’re going to stab me?”

“To stop you from ordering me around, yes,” she snapped back.

He glared. She glared back.

Finally he slumped in his chair and faced her. “You’re hungry. You don’t look after yourself. Someone has to make sure you keep food in your stomach.”

“And who made you my guardian?”

“You did.”

She reared back slightly, frowned at him in confusion and then settled in her chair. “They really are laughing at both of us, aren’t they?” she asked glumly.

He nodded. “They are, indeed.”

Together the two of them looked at the three men, who now had stopped laughing, but still had huge grins on their faces.

Devlin said, “Easton, I totally approve.”

Easton shook his head in disgust. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I probably know better than anybody here,” Devlin said calmly. “And I’ve got to tell you, it’s the real deal.”

Instantly Easton froze. “Hell no.”

“Hell yes,” Ryder said. “Even I can see that much.”
Mayer, Dale. SEALs of Honor: Books 11-13 (pp. 446-448). Valley Publishing Ltd.. Kindle Edition.

Unfortunately, some weird stuff starts happening with Summer, first she hears someone in her tent, which causes Easton and the guys to stay in her tent. Then things escalate, the problem is they don’t know why anyone would target her.

Lots of fun and suspense in this page turning read. I’m very glad I have the three book collections so I can just move on to the next three books!

Finding Strength – The Searchers Book 5 By Ripley Proserpina

Finding Strength

Apollo left, and it was the hardest thing he’d ever done.

It was too much: sharing Nora with his friends. Not being her first. Her only.Apollo thought he had to be away to make sense of it all, but he was wrong.Nora loves him, and she needs him more than ever.

But now it’s up to him to finally accept in himself what Nora always saw.

My heart broke a little when Apollo left at the end of the last book. Nora in her way understood he needed time to decide if he could handle this unusual relationship. It didn’t hurt any less though.

The rest of them have traveled to Matisse’s family for Thanksgiving, a true feast and an acceptance of the relationship that involves at the moment five people. There are questions as to Apollo’s whereabouts, since he had spent many holidays there. Those questions weren’t easily answered.

With the acceptance there comes a sort of peace as Nora, Cai, Matisse, Seok and Ryan explore the area. Then the unthinkable happens. An accident, one that could make or break the relationship with Matisse and one that could solidify Apollo’s feelings toward all of it.

This is a favorite scene.

Apollo put his gloved hands on his hips and stared down at the mat. “Yeah,” he said around his mouth guard. It had taken him by surprise, that was all.

He spat the guard onto the mat and ripped the tape off his gloves. “Take a break,” he told the other man. He needed to hydrate and drink a shake or something. For having stayed up all night, he thought he was doing pretty well. But he knew it was nowhere near good enough. His cardio was shit and his muscles twitchy.

Hopefully, he’d have his act together when it was time to fight.

His phone started to ring as he pushed the ropes apart and ducked beneath them. He’d set the alarms this morning before leaving the house, and the first thing that came into his head was that the security company was calling.

But Ryan’s name was on the screen when he picked it up. “Hey.”

“There’s been an accident. We booked you a flight to Mississippi.”

The world shrunk, and his vision tunneled. Those were the four worst words in the world. They held the potential of ripping away everything he cared about and changing his life forever.

Somehow, he ended up sitting on the floor. “What happened?”

“Matisse and Nora. We don’t know yet, we’re on the way to the hospital.”

He didn’t understand. How could they not know? They were supposed to be all together. Taking care of each other. Taking care of Nora.

He couldn’t breathe. He got to his knees and dropped his head low. The phone ended up on the floor, and he stared at it, watching the seconds pass by as the line remained open. “I’m coming,” he said, and from far away, he heard Ryan answer. “There’s a ticket waiting for you.”

Forcing his body to move, he got his feet under him and grabbed his bag and phone. “What airline?” he asked. He sounded like he’d run a race.

Ryan told him. All Apollo could hope was that he remembered when he got to the airport. With his bag under his arm, and his phone still in his hand, he barreled through the gym, out the door, and to his car.

It had started snowing, but he was impervious to the cold. He may have stepped in a puddle or walked through a snowbank, who the hell knew. Forward momentum was what he needed.

The car started, engine revving as he threw it into drive and peeled out of the parking lot. The roads were slick, and if it hadn’t been absolutely imperative that he get to Nora, he’d have gone faster. But he didn’t have time for an accident.

Everyone was going slow. On another day, he’d have appreciated that people weren’t driving like assholes. Not today. Today he wanted everyone to stay off the roads, or if they had to be on them, stay the fuck out of his way.

Apollo dragged his hand down the back of his head before pounding on the steering wheel. “Shit! Shit! Shit!”

He deserved this. If he hadn’t been so selfish and demanding, he’d have been with her. And if he’d been with her, maybe he could have stopped whatever happened.

The airport wasn’t far from the gym, but it seemed to take an hour to get there. Finally, he pulled into the parking garage, shoved it into park, and jumped out.

Phone. Bag. Shit. Wallet. He hurried around to the passenger side of the card. No way could he handle a drive back to the gym and then back again. He’d go insane. Ripping into his bag, he found his wallet tucked beneath a sweatshirt and— where the fuck was his phone?

He searched the car before realizing he’d had it in his hand the entire time. Waste of fucking time.

Had he ever been so aware of the way time passed? Of how it could slow to a crawl or speed up faster than he could track?

The parking garage was freezing, and he shivered. Pulling the strap of the bag onto his shoulder, he realized he was still in his workout clothes. Not that it mattered, but rather than walk through the airport like some kind of douche in a tank, he took out a sweatshirt and got it on.

The airport was busy, which he should have expected since it was Thanksgiving break. The line to the counter was long, snaking between the straps fixed between metal stands. Apollo got in line and tried not to look like a maniac.

What he wanted to do was pace, or bounce, but if he acted weird, then he’d be a target of the cops patrolling the entrance. He needed to blend and get through the line as quickly as possible.

He removed his ID from his wallet and stuck it between his teeth before stowing the wallet in a pouch of his bag. Then he pulled his sweatshirt on and awkwardly stuck his arms and head through it.

He stepped forward, ready. “There’s a ticket for Apollo Morris,” he told the counter agent.

“ID?” the woman asked. He handed it to her, and in a matter of minutes, he had his ticket and was on his way.

Forward momentum. The phrase kept running through his head. He just had to keep moving, checking off boxes that would get him closer to Nora.
Ripley Proserpina. Finding Strength: The Searchers #5 (Kindle Locations 564-604).

I really thought Nora’s problems would be behind her by now, but it seems things just keep escalating in different directions.

Lots of emotion and tears as we learn the whole of Apollo’s secrets. Matisse has to deal with guilt and of course there’s more on Dr. Murray and yet another break-in.

There’s some fun and lots of love and understanding with Matisse’s family and the guys are bonding more with Nora as she recuperates.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I am hoping that Dr. Murray and his cohorts get everything they deserve.

USA Today Bestselling Author
Melissa McClone

She’s been a proper princess—
but she wants to rebel.

After the death of her fiancé, Princess Madeleine knows a loveless, arranged marriage awaits her. She’s resigned to her fate until she meets her intended husband. Crown Prince Enrique is gorgeous, but he comes on way too strong, says the wrong things, and fumbles with apologies. He’s more court jester than Prince Charming. How can she marry him?

Enrique might be self-centered and lack social skills, but he’s trying to do better—for himself, his country, and his future wife. Despite their royal union being a political necessity, he wants his marriage with the captivating Madeleine to be a love match. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to woo her. How hard can it be to win his princess bride’s heart?

Nearly impossible, he discovers, because Madeleine seems unwilling—or unable—to give him her heart. On their wedding day, instead of exchanging vows, will the royal couple say goodbye?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Princess Madeline is still heartbroken five years after her fiancé’s death. Now circumstances are such that an arranged marriage is necessary to save their kingdom.

Crown Prince Enrique has had many marriage contracts go awry. The one with Princess Juliana ended with her marrying his brother. Thanks to Parliament he now must wed to ascend the throne. His father needs to retire and is abdicating, but has managed to find another contract. All he can envision is his brother and Jules taking the throne. He’s failed at completing an arrangement so many times because of his feeling of not being able to love.

After messing up royally (pun intended), Enrique calls Jules for advice. His brother Alejandro and Jules have been invaluable in helping him change to be more flexible and personable. He has to apologize and can only hope it is accepted.

This is a favorite scene.

She stood with her shoulders pressed back and head held high. Proper princess posture. “You mentioned touring the grounds earlier.”

“I did, but first, I must apologize.” Enrique forced the words from his dry throat before realizing he was still putting on an act of what he thought she wanted him to be. He took another breath, allowing his posture to relax. “I’m sorry for offending you earlier. I wish I could blame what I said on nerves, but that wasn’t the case. I’m known for saying the wrong things. Not just at the wrong time. Pretty much all the time. I’ve been trying to do better, but I still have a ways to go as you saw today.”

A beat passed. Then another.

He forced himself not to shift his weight between his feet. She was the offended party, not him.

Madeleine raised her chin slightly. “Apology accepted.”

Enrique waited for her to say more, but she didn’t. “May we begin again?”

She nodded.

He extended his arm. “I’m Enrique. Crown prince or court jester depending on the situation.”

A smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She shook his hand. “I’m Madeleine. Proper princess and tour guide extraordinaire.”

His hand was larger, but her grip was stronger than he imagined it would be. Her skin was as soft and smooth as it looked.

She drew her arm to her side, and he missed her warmth.

He stepped out of his room and closed the door behind him. “Lead the way, tour guide.”

As Madeleine headed down the wide hallway, she motioned to various doors they passed. “This is the family wing. There are four guest suites besides my family’s rooms.”

“Do you host many guests?”

“Around the holidays, mainly. There’s also a summer celebration that is popular. Most guests stay on the other side of the castle, though.”

“I’m honored to be near you.”

Her expression didn’t change, but she no longer frowned. That was progress.

She opened a door to a landing and stone staircase. “This will take us to the ground level.”

On either side of the steps were walls of rocks put together like puzzle pieces and held in place by mortar. The castle oozed character, as if part of a movie set.

“Is this original?” he asked.

“Yes.” She didn’t slow her pace. “The exterior looks the same as it has for centuries albeit maintained by the staff and updated as necessary.”

He ran his hand along the rocks to his right. The stone was worn smooth. “If these walls could talk.”

She glanced over her shoulder with a surprised gaze. “They might have stories to tell. This was the escape route for the royal family when the castle was attacked. That happened a few times with past generations.”

“When we are on the island, I’ll show you what my family used.”

“I— I’d like that.” Her voice was hesitant, but that was better than disgusted. More progress.

The staircase led to a small grassy area enclosed by another wall— this one taller. He followed her to a massive iron gate. “Is this to keep the royal family in or others out?”

“I daresay both.” She sounded as if she were smiling. “When we were children, Karl was known for getting into mischief.”

“What about you?”

She shrugged. “Someone had to behave.”

That sounded like Jules. Did Madeleine have a secret passion as his sister-in-law had? He would ask once they were getting along better.

He followed her out of the gate to a landscaped area with clipped hedges, stone walkways, and verdant shrubbery. “This is breathtaking.”

She glanced around as if seeing the grounds for the first time. “It is. I take the beauty for granted or remember when snow covers everything during the winter.”

“The weather is harsher than on the island.”

Madeleine nodded. “I’ve lived here for twenty-seven years so I’m used to it. Sunshine and blue skies overhead for most of the year will be different.”

Her words held no anticipation. No excitement. No happiness.

Yes, this was an arranged marriage, but her lack of emotion bothered him. “Will you miss Gaullia?”

“I’ve always known this place wouldn’t be my home forever.”

She hadn’t answered the question. Not exactly. But he wouldn’t push. Not until he knew where he stood with her.

“Would you like to see the garden?” she asked.

“Yes, please.”
Melissa McClone. The Proper Princess ARC (Kindle Locations 727-772). Cardinal Press, LLC.

As Madeline shows Enrique the gardens, they both learn about each other. Be prepared to sniffle a bit. All is not well though as the wedding day approaches, and Enrique finds he has a desire for a love match.

I love the way this relationship very gradually progresses. Both fighting their demons and their responsibilities.

I would really like to see the other Crown Princes meet their matches, even though their kingdoms have been saved by their sisters.

Finding Courage – The Searchers Book 4 By Ripley Proserpina

Finding Courage
The Searchers Book 4
Ripley Proserpina

There is no future until he faces his past…

Nora, Cai, Ryan, Matisse, Apollo, and Seok have decided to forge their own path. Yes, their relationship is unusual, but it’s what they want.

They won’t hide it. It isn’t a secret.
Or is it?

Cai loves her, Nora is certain of it. But when the woman he left behind suddenly appears, the Cai she knows changes, and Nora begins to wonder, will he be brave enough to choose her and step into the light?

Or will he hide her away with the rest of his ghosts?

While this book centers on Cai and his relationship with Nora, the others are very involved as well.

This book opens with Cai getting a concussion from an altercation with Dr. Murray and a couple of his cronies. He woke up not remembering being transported to jail with Matisse all because of his frustration at not having access to Tyler. Although others are working on the problem Cai is practically obsessed with being sure Tyler is being treated properly.

There is much going on with all of them, but Cai’s issues come to the fore when his ‘wife’ shows up. Sarah isn’t legally his wife and never was. That marriage was the product of how they were raised in the cult where his father was the leader.

Nora is totally blindsided by Sarah’s call and then her appearance at the house. More so by Cai’s description of their relationship, roommate not girlfriend. A painful denial.

This is a favorite scene.

Cai knew. His friends would do anything for him. All he had to do was ask.

He fled upstairs before anyone could push him. If Apollo had been there, he would have pushed. And Matisse! He must have missed some kind of hand signal between Seok and Matisse, because that man didn’t know the meaning of subtle.

Upstairs, Cai hesitated at Nora’s door. His dinner with Sarah reminded him of what Nora gave him. She eased him, made him calm. He rapped on the door lightly, waiting for her voice.

“Come in,” she called. She didn’t look surprised to see him. “Hi.”

“I need to talk to you.”

Her gaze didn’t leave him as he strode toward her. She shifted, pushing herself to sit against the headboard.

He sat, met her gaze, and looked away. He’d have to be blind not to see the traces of her crying. Her nose was red, and her eyes were still bloodshot. “I’m sorry.”

She nodded, but she didn’t say anything for a moment. After taking a deep breath, she rubbed her eyes and asked, “What exactly are you sorry for?” Her voice trembled, but she pressed her lips together and went on. “For keeping me a secret? For not telling me you were married? For giving me snippets and then, on your anniversary, going out with your ex-wife? Who, I’ll add, refers to herself as your wife.” Instead of her voice lifting, she got quieter. The last two words she repeated so quietly, he barely made them out. “Your wife.”

“Nora,” he said. “There’s so much you don’t know, and so much I hate talking about. You don’t understand. And the only way to make you understand is to talk about it. Just beginning the story makes me want to punch the wall and vomit.”

“What are you afraid of?” she asked.

He laughed and shook his head, but nothing about the situation was funny. “Everything, Nora.”

“So talk to me!” She went to her knees and shuffled toward him. She gripped his arms, fingers digging into him. “Cai. I’m begging you. Tonight hurt.”

He heard what she didn’t say. He’d hurt her.

“I’m not there,” he said. He wanted to give her what she needed, but the idea of spilling his guts was too much. Reluctantly, he stood. The entire time, Nora watched him. Her brown eyes were big, and tears welled up in her eyes. Her entire face got splotchy, and she took in a shaky breath.

“Then you need to get there, Cai,” she said. Her shoulders went back as she stared at him. “Because I’m not okay with what happened tonight. And I’m not okay with it happening again.”

He wanted to promise her that. But how could he do that? He couldn’t see the future. Rather than speak aloud, and tell her something neither of them wanted to hear, he stayed silent and nodded. He wanted to take her in his arms. He wanted another moment with her like earlier when he’d held her and kissed her. Her breath had breezed across his naked chest and for the first time in years, he could take a deep breath.

But it felt wrong now. Holding her in his arms was a promise that she’d always be there, and in order for her to always be there, he knew he had to tell her everything. And he couldn’t.

Not now.

Not yet.
Proserpina, Ripley. Finding Courage (The Searchers Book 4). Kindle Locarions (1279-1305). Kindle Edition.

As Nora and Cai’s relationship does some struggling, Apollo also comes to the realization that he wants, perhaps more, than Nora can give.

Then there’s more interference from Dr. Murray, a revelation from another Doctor who takes over Tyler’s care, the Thanksgiving invitation that can’t be ignored from Matisse’s Mom and Seok having some of his own fears surface.

There’s so much more that what I’ve mentioned. There is lots of heat, love, and emotion in this book. I couldn’t put it down.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Game Clincher – Triple Play Book 3 By Lori Ryan

Game Clincher
Triple Play Curse Book 3
USA Today Bestselling Author
Lori Ryan

After two of his teammates fall prey to the curse, Gage Collier realizes he’s got worse things to worry about than the power of the curse alone. He’s got his mother to fear, and the woman is on a mission. When a columnist spills the beans that the curse is in play and there’s only one victim left to be had, Gage’s mother spins a web designed to trap him into being its third victim and give her the grandbabies she’s been wanting. Though the bait she sets is tempting, Gage has no interest in falling in love. With his mother strategizing against him, Gage probably doesn’t stand a chance, but he’ll go down fighting before he takes this hit.

The Triple Play Curse has taken down two players, they are happily committed and in love. No one wants to be the next to fall, but Gage’s mother has other ideas.

She comes up with an ingenious scheme to set up Gage, I have to admit it was the perfect setup. Her friend Lucia cleans houses for a living and has a daughter who fills in for her from time to time.

The idea is for Lucia to get the job cleaning her son’s home, then pretend an injury so her daughter will fill in.

Getting the job was easy since all the other interviews were with twenty-somethings that only want a chance at snagging Gage. Since Lucia is an older woman, Gage took that bait, hook, line and sinker.

This is a favorite scene when Lucia’s daughter Talia takes over.

Gage finished his last lap and pulled himself up and out of the pool before toweling off. He’d always looked forward to the end of his morning workouts, but never more than he did nowadays.

Four days a week, he could walk to his kitchen and find breakfast ready and waiting for him when he got there. He hadn’t asked for it. Lucia just seemed to pick up on his needs. Within a day or two, she had figured out he always finished working out at ten thirty, and she had a scrambled egg white omelet ready for him. She would always throw in a different mixture of vegetables and top it with her homemade salsa. She’d also have a big plate of fresh cut fruit for him.

But, what he loved the most, was the way his house smelled when she was there. She would cook a big meal for him every morning that he’d devour when he got home later that night from the baseball field.

The mouthwatering smell of some kind of mixture of chicken and rice or enchiladas wafted through the condo to him now, drawing him to the kitchen before he’d even thrown a t-shirt t-shirt on. Hell, she’d outdone herself today. He didn’t know what he’d find on the stove, but he did know he’d have a hard time resisting the temptation to dig into it now instead of after the game. It wasn’t unusual for Lucia to have to beat him back from the stove with one of the wooden spoons she’d stocked his kitchen with when she discovered how little he had in the way of pots and pans and utensils.

Gage looped his towel around his neck and called out to Lucia.

“Hey, beautiful, what are you trying to do to me? Make me gain twenty pounds this season? I won’t be able to move if you keep this up.”

But it wasn’t Lucia who came out of his bedroom with his dirty laundry in her arms. It was a … hell, he didn’t know what she was. A goddess, at the very least. Her laugh matched Lucia’s to a tee, and her long black hair and fiery eyes were almost identical as well. But, she was younger and had a body that screamed out to him. Gage took a step back as she came into the kitchen. His hands felt like magnets, just pulling him in, begging him to take ahold of those round hips of hers and yank her body in close, tight against his.

She just smiled at him, her eyes sparkling with humor, seemingly unaware of the effect she had on him.

“You call my mother beautiful?” She put the laundry basket down on one of the counters and cocked her head at him.

“Your mother?” he echoed, stupidly. She raised a brow, then laughed again.

“My mother. Lucia?”

“Your mother?” he asked, yet again, not because he didn’t understand by now that this woman was Lucia’s daughter, but because his mind seemed to be stuck on repeat. Like a skipping record.

She was laughing as she shook her head, and reached for the plate with his omelet and fruit to hand to him, but he didn’t miss the puzzled look she gave him.

“You’re Talia?” he asked, finally, breaking loose of the hold she’d had on him and reaching for the plate. Lucia hadn’t told him much about Talia. She was Lucia’s only daughter, that much he knew. That was about the extent of it.

“You can’t be here,” he said now, still not touching his omelet.

That stopped her smile. “What?”

“Your mom is supposed to be here. Where is she?”

Now suspicion clouded her gaze and he felt like a jerk. Again. No, not again. Still. It hadn’t stopped. Because he’d been a jerk from the minute he’d seen Talia. She wore a long skirt that flowed loosely down around her ankles, taunting him. It seemed to dare him to find out what was hidden underneath. Her snug fitting shirt accentuated her full breasts, the only thing that had drawn his eyes away from those magical hips as they spoke.

“She hurt her back,” she said, cold now, all trace of her previous humor gone. “I’ll be filling in for her for the next couple of weeks. The doctor said she needs to take it easy for two weeks, or she might end up needing surgery and physical therapy.”

And, now he felt lower than low. “Is she okay? What happened? Was she in an accident?”

He thought he saw a flicker of softness cross her face again, but then she erased it, as though she wasn’t quite ready to forgive him yet. He didn’t blame her.

“Does she need anything?” Gage asked.

“No. My stepfather is taking care of her. She just needs to rest, so you’re stuck with me for two weeks.”

And, with that, she spun on her foot, balancing the laundry basket on her hip again, and exited the room.

Gage was left drooling, and wondering how in the heck he would get through the next two weeks without giving in to the walking, talking spitfire of temptation that was Talia Aguilar.

In spite of all their best intentions, these two fall hard and fast for each other. So much so that they both retreat.

Lots of fun, laughter and a few tears as the curse comes to fruition.

Second chances do happen…
Even amid evil…

Rhodes knew Sienna years ago. When she’d been young and gawky, more elbow and carrot hair than style, but she’d had something special even then. Now she’s all grown. But she’s a trouble magnet, and even at the compound it finds her…

Sienna had a super-sized crush on her brother’s best friend years ago. Now he’s hunky and even hotter than she could have imagined. Only she’s new and doesn’t want to jeopardize her position. When asked to help out on a job, she agrees…and triggers a sequence of disastrous events no one could foresee.

But someone will stop at nothing to silence everyone involved, especially the two of them…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

The day Ice brought Sienna to the compound was a really good day for them. She’s got the skills to take care of the accounting that Stone hates. However there is someone already there that Sienna just can’t ignore, Rhodes.

Rhodes and Sienna’s brother Jared are best-friends. They served together and now Rhodes is with Legendary Security following that FUBAR mission. Jared is still active duty and there is a code between SEAL brothers, hands off the sisters.

Funny how everyone at the compound has noticed the attraction and acknowledged it except for the two involved.

As Sienna’s working on streamlining the accounting for the compound, she gets a call from Bullard asking for her help with some banking code. Since it appears to be a joint thing with Levi and Bullard she agrees to help out.

Merk and Rhodes head out to check some addresses related to the case finding some things that cause involving local police. When they return there are some interesting developments that Sienna points out to Rhodes and has to report to Levi.

This is a favorite scene, that had me giggling.

She looked at Levi. “About time to bring in a few of our connections, pass over some of this information and see what they might have to offer.”

“Or call Bullard first,” Sienna said. Both turned to look at her as she smiled. “Or not.” She raised her hands and shrugged. “Don’t quite know how all this works. But normally we would get as much information on our side before offering any to somebody else.”

Ice laughed. “I like the way you think.”

Levi checked his watch and said, “Perfect. It’s about six in the morning over there. I’ll call Bullard now.” He pulled out his phone, turned to look at Ice and said, “I’ll let you talk to him.”

In a surprise move she reached up and kissed Levi on the cheek. “You can talk to him, sweetie.” She walked from the room. “It’s getting late. I’m headed to our suite.”

Sienna shut down her laptop as she heard Levi talking to Bullard and with a small wave, turned and walked toward the office door. And that’s when she saw Rhodes, leaning against the doorway, arms crossed. She glared at him. “Did you hear the whole thing?”

He raised his eyebrows at her tone and said, “Sure. Why not? I didn’t interrupt or have anything to add.” His words were correct, and his voice was level, but the glint in his eye made her suspicious.

She brushed past him. “Levi’s talking to Bullard now. So, if you want to talk to him about this, you’ll have to wait.”

“Are you heading to bed now?”

An odd tone was in his voice. She turned to look at him. “I’m going to take a shower.”

She stopped, pivoted to face him fully and glared at him. “What does that mean?”

He raised his eyebrows once again.

She shook her head. “Don’t raise your eyebrows like that. What do you mean?”

“Nothing. I should take a shower too.” He whistled as he walked past her and tossed back, “Too bad we can’t have one together and conserve water.”

And then, just like that, he was gone. She made her way into her suite and slammed the door, locking it behind her. She leaned against it. Then slowly sank to the floor.

Because now the only thought in her head was of the two of them, making passionate love, bodies twisting in hot water, completely into each other.

Damn him. Now she needed a cold shower.

Now things start heating up in more ways than one as the DA requests Sienna’s assistance. It means traveling with Rhodes to Dallas and she’s not sure she can really help what with her past and all.

Action, intrigue, romance and simmer to sizzle heat will have you turning the pages. I am so glad I have this in a collect of books 4-6 so I can just start reading the next one.
