Malbec River wants to sell to his family’s failing winery. So when his mother, Shirley “Weezer” River, calls, informing him she has a potential buyer, he’s on the next plane to ensure his mother isn’t up to her old tricks. Weezer is the reason he left town in the first place, and she can’t be trusted. Of course, things aren’t as straight forward as his mother made them appear and when Malbec comes face to face with the one woman standing in the way of him selling the winery, he may have met his match.

Eliza Jane Blue is a talented Viticulturist who searched for an opportunity to head up her own line of wines, and she jumps at the chance when Weezer offers her the job as head wine maker. However, Weezer neglected to tell her that the winery is failing. Eliza will need a miracle if she’s going to save The River Winery and Vineyard, and create a new line of wines that bares her name. Her biggest obstacle—Malbec River, the best Viticulturalist in the business. He’s trying to pressure his mother into selling the winery…to a large corporation, which would not only take away her job, but it would successfully kill her dreams.

Candlewood Falls is a multi-author world and it looks like the authors have series within it. The first three books are out now and represent autumn.

River’s Edge is the first book in The River Winery series by Jen Talty. I was attracted to this book for a couple of reasons, first I love wine and second Jen writes books I can’t put down. River’s Edge did not disappoint.

Malbec River is the best viticulturist in the business, he has a job he loves in California although his family owns and operates a vineyard on the east coast. The one thing he won’t get is his name on a label, he doesn’t want it anyway he just wants to create the best wines he can.

Malbec’s mother Shirley ‘Weezer’ River, has always refused to sell the winery so when she calls saying she’s found a buyer, Malbec is determined to see it through.

Eliza Jane Blue is the new viticulturist Weezer has hired, she’s been promised a label and more in her contract. She’s been given a residence on the vineyard property and has settled in by the time Malbec arrives.

There’s a very interesting confrontation that occurs as Malbec realizes the cottage he stays in when he’s home is occupied and by whom. Seems his mother is up to something again and selling the winery isn’t it. He’s also very attracted to this new addition to the winery. An attraction he swears he can’t acknowledge.

Then there’s the secret his mother refuses to tell him that has been passed down through generations. She wants it to just die out but Malbec has always wanted the truth, and it’s the reason he won’t come home to run the winery.

We meet this entire family and get to know Malbec and Eliza. Eliza’s family has an interesting history and it’s all tied up with this vineyard.

I couldn’t put this book down. There’s conflict, intrigue, suspicions and a simmer to sizzle romance. I have to read the other two books that have released and I can’t wait to read the winter releases in Candlewood Falls.
