He’ll protect her with his life.
And she’ll run off with his heart.

Jolene Whittle’s last true crime novel cracked the top twenty of the NY Times bestselling list. Now all she has to do is hit number one with the next one and she has just the story to do it with: The Alleyway Strangler. And the woman who brought him down is willing to give her a once-in-a-lifetime interview. Jolene boards a plane heading for Texas where she meets a well-meaning emergency room doctor who happens to be her biggest fan. Except, this isn’t any ordinary fan. He’s connected to her past. And now history might repeat itself.

While forced into a little mini vacation, Michael “Cannon” Santoro is asked by a fellow Delta Force soldier to pick up Jolene up at the airport and keep an eye on her while she interviews his wife. Cannon doesn’t hesitate. Jolene is like no one he’s ever met, and he finds himself in uncharted waters. Only, he’s about to uncover a sinister plan that will bring both their pasts on a collision course with the future, and it isn’t bright.

Michael ‘Cannon’ Santoro, has been called Cannon forever. His nickname came as a child and nobody calls him Michael. He’s currently on medical leave staying with his brother Tony and today is a gathering of friends. Oz, Gage, and Lefty are there with their wives and children, the conversations are varied and relay the fun of the occasion although it does start to get a bit heavy as they discussed the injuries from Cannon’s last mission. In the growing silence, Lefty asks Cannon for a favor. Kinley has agreed to be interviewed about the Alleyway Strangler and he wants Cannon to stick by her like glue. He wants to be sure the narrative is controlled not only because of his job but also the stress it puts on Kinley.

Jolene Whittle writes best selling true crime books. She is thrilled that Kinley has agreed to an interview for a story that really needs to be told. When we meet her she’s a bit anxious since it’s a once in a lifetime chance and she’s also being met by a friend of theirs who will be escorting her around. The flight itself becomes stressful when the man seated next to her knows far more than she is comfortable with. The ER doctor seems to me to be far more than just a fan.

Cannon rescues her from the man’s persistence but this isn’t the last of it. Cannon and Jolene face many things throughout this book, and their relationship is a simmer to sizzle one.

We see a lot of the stalker in this and knowing the behind the scenes is a bit disturbing.

Once Jen has me enthralled by the story and on the edge of my seat waiting for the next shoe to drop.

5 Contented Purrs for Jen!
