Synopsis Spring Blog - Copy

Aspiring author, Nate Wilson wants some space from his overbearing family and a job he doesn’t like. A week on the Oregon coast sounds like paradise and just what he needs to get the creative juices flowing. Unfortunately, his plans are derailed when a storm moves in and a ghostly figure flashes in his headlights, sending him skidding off the road and into a tree. Lucky for him, he ends up in front of a Bed and Breakfast, and the beautiful owner may do more to spur his creativity than any beach could.

Hesitant witch and inn owner, Haylee Clark is cursed. Well, not her exactly—at least not yet—but all of the women in her family have suffered the same fate. They fell in love, only to have that passion turn sour and their husbands die tragically, leaving them brokenhearted. So far, Haylee has done well to avoid that destiny, but when the captivating Nate Wilson crashes into her life, he awakens something within her that she never thought to feel.

When the pair stumbles upon a hidden room where Haylee’s grandmother used to conduct her rituals, they unknowingly unleash a dark entity hell-bent on destruction, and discover that a family heirloom is the source of the Clark family curse. Despite the spell, they can’t deny their attraction, and give in to the magic between them. But the closer Haylee and Nate get, the more the curse tries to tear them apart. If they don’t find a way to defeat the evil, they may lose more than their hearts.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

This book was a gift in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Once again Lia perks up the interest in the first pages. A cloaked figure in white, a gargoyle waking, a cemetery and a bed and breakfast. Add in a car accident and we have our recipe for danger and excitement.

Hitting a tree was not how Nate wanted to start his vacation, but being it was close to a bed and breakfast it wasn’t so bad. Well other than the storm that was raging.

Haylee the proprietor of the quaint establishment, was welcoming in spite of her staff being off for the weekend. Although she may have been a bit short when explaining no phone or internet. I think that snippiness was more due to the attraction she was feeling than anything else.

Neither Haylee or Nate know what to make of Cam, showing up with no luggage in the middle of the storm. He’s here one minute then gone the next.

A spooky basement, with a somewhat hidden room discovered on a tour of the house. Something else is happening beyond the curse she knows about.  This is a favorite scene as they try to piece together what Haylee’s grandmother had done.

“Grams had worked in the ritual room for days. She’d forbidden me from entering the basement. When she finally came out, the stone was gone and she told me that everything would be fine now.” Haylee hugged her waist as a single tear rolled down her cheek. “The next morning, I found her dead in her bed. She’d passed in her sleep.”

Instantly, Nate rushed around the desk and wrapped his arms around her, drawing her into his chest. “I believe it’s the stone that’s cursed, not your family.”

She lifted her head and locked gazes with him, her eyes narrowing. “The stone? Why the stone?”

“I’m not sure. But I think we need to find out.” The first thing Nate would do was question the old man. After all, it was he who’d planted the idea in his head. “What do you know about it?”

“Grams found it when she and Papa were on vacation at the coast. The Sunstone can aid in healing, protection, and success. Plus, it’s associated with the element fire, which was Grams’ favorite element to work with.”

Haylee averted her gaze and moved toward the door, but not before he saw the tears fill her eyes.

“Is it possible that if the stone were cursed, it would react negatively?”

Stopping in the doorway, she turned to him. “Yes, that would, in many cases, be the point of a curse.” She rushed out the room as if realizing something.

He followed her with quick steps, stopping when she entered her bedroom. “What is it?” “It’s just a thought, but I think Grams was trying the break the curse. When she was unable to, she tried to contain the negative energy.” She zipped from her dresser to the nightstands on either side of her bed, opening drawers.

Confused, he watched her go to the closet and dig around on the floor. “I’m not following.”

“If it is the stone that’s cursed, then the fire within the stone is gone. The attraction and sexual energy were altered in some way. That is the only thing that makes senses.” She pulled out a shoebox and opened it. A moment later, she withdrew a black cloth. After removing the Sunstone from around her neck, she wrapped it in the cloth and placed it inside the box.

“Without the fire, the passion, a couple will fall out of love.”
SunstonesFire LiaDavis-eBook (Kindle Locations 411-429). Kindle Edition.

Nate and Haylee need to find a way to undo the curse or neither of them will ever have a happily ever after. Then there is Cam and his secrets.

I thoroughly enjoyable read. Lots of suspense and intrigue combined with a love story that gets the heart pounding and the pulse racing.

I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

I love this world. A human woman can have so much more than several hot hunky mates. She could get some additional powers through the mate bond.

In this one we see first hand that a whiny bitch on earth can be just as whiny and bitchy here , as a mate to “Vungus, or as she liked to call him, Vungus the Fungus, was a world—no, galaxy-wide class-A dick.Unfortunately a high ranking one. I love Jazz and this scene was one I could see myself in. Yep I would definitely do what Jazz did.

Staring at the woman causing all the commotion, now actually stamping her feet in a petulant fit, Jaz focused on
mentally reaching out and poking her ass just to shut her the hell up. Evidently she’d poked a little harder than needed, because the woman shrieked as if she’d been stabbed, Vungus bellowed with rage, and every male in the place went on instant alert.

Her husbands were suddenly at her side and she sensed not only their shock and anger at her impetuous action, but
their intense worry which had her heart racing.

It’s always those who are full of themselves that cause all the  trouble.

The courting of Tandar and Jazz is sizzling hot and far out weighs the trouble. Sexy almost seems a mild word. I loved every page turning second.

Tough as nails yet gentle when it counts, he’s gotten closer to Atlas than anyone else-and he’s willing to put his hard-wired suspicion aside to let her do the same. Winter Blog Review

This book was a gift from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book has everything you could want in a military romance. You have your hot ex-military trainers, a determined female “dog-whisperer”, and a military dog named Atlas.  Atlas, is really the star of this book and I loved every single second.

Atlas’ handler Callhoun died under suspicious circumstances that was labeled accidental friendly fire. As a result Atlas has PTSD and severe depression. Now before you start on me, dogs can and do feel emotions as deeply as we humans do and its just as hard if not harder to break through to them.

Atlas is grieving, he is only responding to commands by rote. He really doesn’t want to do anything. Not eat, not play, nothing. My heart breaks for him, he has lost so much more than just a handler he lost his partner, his friend, his family.

Sent to Hope’s Crossing kennel to his original trainer David Cruz for rehabilitation, Atlas is also assigned a civilian trainer by the Pentagon, Evelyn (Lyn)Jones.

Things start going awry right from the start. A minor security breach at the kennel causes David to confront Lyn at her hotel. Only he doesn’t get to confront her, but stop an attack on her.

Thus begins a relationship that David isn’t sure he wants, but he sure wants a taste. One of my favorite scenes is after an attack and he is tending to a scrape on Lyn’s wrist with Atlas watching the whole interaction.

He leaned toward her, focused on her plump lip caught under her teeth.

  “What else do you like?”

She opened her mouth to answer but he didn’t plan to let her get a word out. Maybe later. He bent his head to capture her lips.

And seventy-five pounds of fur jumped up on his side.

  “The hell?”

  Lyn gasped. “Atlas!”

“Af.” Mindful of the dog’s injury, Cruz gave Atlas a gentle shove.

The dog dropped back to all fours, his tongue lolling. Looking from him to Lyn and back again, Atlas lay back down on his belly.

  Jealous. Damn dog was jealous.

There is lots of action, fun and some sizzling sex sprinkled throughout the suspense.  A thoroughly enjoyable page turner.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - Synopsis

The kitchen isn’t the only thing heating up this winter…

Tiffany Black, culinary artist and owner of Beary Sweets Café, is determined to make this year’s Winter Solstice celebration one to remember. Especially since it will also be the mating ceremony for her brother, Anthony, and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Connie. She wants everything to be perfect. Unfortunately, you can’t always get what you want. When she falls off a ladder in her café and breaks her ankle, she fears her plans are doomed. Until the sexy bear Healer, Holt, comes to the rescue—stirring up more than just recipes.

Mating has never been at the top of Holt’s to-do list, and he’s known Tiffany all her life. So when the mating urge slams into him after mending her ankle, he’s taken aback—unsure and intrigued at the same time. The girl he watched grow up is now a curvy, sensual woman, and his bear wants to claim her. He wants to claim her.

The stubborn female refuses to follow Healer’s orders and allow her ankle to heal, and she’s hell-bent on catering the winter celebrations. In order to do what needs to be done, she insists that he help her. Since it gives him an excuse to stay by her side, he’s all right with that. As they work side by side to make the Solstice unforgettable, their passions ignite, and things turn utterly delicious.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - My review

Nothing says holiday like fresh baked goods, and lots of party foods. No one makes them better than Tiffany and when a storm threatens, she decides to move everything from Beary Sweets to her home. She doesn’t want the food to be stuck far away from the Winter Celebrations of Solstice and Matings.

In the process of moving things to the truck she spots the cake topper she thought she misplaced, out of her reach so she climbs up falls and breaks her ankle.  Shouldn’t be too big a deal Holt will fix her up and she’ll be good as new.

Only Holt doesn’t do a quick heal and quickly finds himself recruited to help. All it takes is a kiss that he’s not sure how happened and he’s fleeing the scene. Leaving Tiffany feeling hurt and rejected thinking he doesn’t feel the mating pull.

That all changes the next day after completing the prep for the next day’s celebration. Tiffany’s Mom takes Kaylee off for the rest of the day, leaving Holt and Tiffany alone. Subtle they aren’t, but they are shifters after all. This was a favorite scene.

Instead of picking up the crutch, he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the sofa. “Want anything to eat?”

“Yes, please. There are pre-portioned meals in the freezer.”

He frowned, not at all liking the idea of her dieting. “What for?”

Tiffany laughed. “I get so busy working on new recipes and with the day-to-day at the café, that when I settle down, I’m too tired to cook. So, once a week I cook all my meals for the week and freeze them.”

His cheeks heated with embarrassment. “I’m sorry…”

She pressed a finger to his lips and gave him a smile that made his pants uncomfortable. “Shush. Go warm us up something to eat.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Before he straightened, he leaned in and kissed her. Pleasure exploded across his senses. When their tongues touched, a shot of electrified energy blasted through him.

Reluctantly, he ended the kiss and pressed his forehead to hers. A soft sigh escaped Tiffany. “If you have no intentions to claim me as your mate, you need to leave.”

What? He drew back, confused, and stared into her blue gaze. “Trust me, I have every intention, but I thought you needed time. That we needed time to…I don’t know, date or something.”

She nibbled on her bottom lip briefly before replying. “Dating is for humans. We’ve known each other all my life, even became friends. There’s no one else I’d rather be mated to.”

He scooped her up and proceeded down the hall, thoughts of food forgotten.

Now we can’t have everything go smoothly even at the holidays so the storm has to throw some wrenches into the mix. Not enough to spoil the ceremonies but enough to cause some angst.

Lots of love, laughter and very few tears. A perfect holiday read.

Release Day Blitz! Desert Wolf by Heather Long – Guest Post By Heather – Giveaway, Excerpt & Review

Desert Wolf Cover

Desert Wolf
Wolves of Willow Bend #8
Heather Long
Release Day: November 24, 2015

Please Welcome, Heather Long!

Heather Long

Thank you Heather for joining me on your release day.

I asked Heather a couple of questions and here are her answers.

Why Wolves? Where Wolves?

See what I did there? A little play on wolves. Yes, I know, I’m nowhere near as clever as I pretend to be. First and foremost, let me say thank you to Carol Kittie for hosting me today. Carol’s awesome.

Why Wolves?

There’s a short answer and a long answer to this question. The short answer is simple—I love the primal nature of wolves. We view wolves as the ultimate survivors, not to mention they are an apex predator in North America. While wolves are considered a stable population, they remain on the endangered species list. These noble predators faced off against an even greater predator—man—and nearly lost. Some species of wolves are lost to us, so it is vital that we preserve the rest.

A longer answer is more personal. When I was younger, I met the first Kaia, a wolf hybrid cross who’d been adopted by a close friend. She worked with endangered cats, including those larger predators imported as illegal pets or for hunts, and helped to rescue them and provide them with sanctuary. The hybrid wolf was a wolf/malamute cross, a first generation. He’d been horribly abused by someone who wanted to use him for dog fighting.

He didn’t like children or men, but he didn’t have a problem with women. I used to help her out with him, and I discovered an entire world while getting to know the first Kaia. He was fiercely protective of his territory—the large yard he had and his house. He tolerated my friend’s husband because the husband pee’d in the yard regularly—no, I’m not kidding. He marked his territory and he consistently wore something of his wife’s so that he carried her scent. But me? Kaia liked me for me. I was a girl, and he didn’t seem to perceive me as a threat.

For two weeks, I sat on the porch and let him make the decision to trust me. Eventually, he would eat from my hand and he would sit next to me and let me groom him. When my friends went out of town, I stayed with him so he wasn’t alone. A meter man utterly ignored the signs that said do not enter yard, please knock even if you need to read the meters. And the warning for the dangerous dog.

I was standing in the kitchen when I see this head pass the window. I knew Kaia was out there, so I rushed outside. The man is out there reading the meters, utterly oblivious to the wolf stalking him. Wolves don’t make sounds when they prepare to strike, so Kaia was utterly silent.

I caught his collar and said, no. Kaia froze and the man jerked around. I have never seen a six-foot-four male blanch so swiftly and I raised a hand and said, “Whatever you do, do not run. Very slowly and very calmly, back up to the fence. Do not turn your back on me or him. Do not talk to me. Just. Get. Out.”

Thankfully, the moron listened. Kaia never moved. He pressed against my side, and he stared at this man until the fence closed. For the rest of the day, Kaia wouldn’t let me out of his sight. He paced that fence a thousand times and came in the house—where I went, so did he. The next day, I put a lock on the interior of the fence so, no matter what, no one could let themselves in.

Kaia is why I write wolves. He was a gift. Someone had treated him so badly, yet he chose his people and he listened and I have never forgotten that fierceness. When I rescued my husky ten years ago, I named him after the first Kaia. Though the husky isn’t a wolf, he is my buddy and from time to time, he reminds me of the hybrid who passed away at a ripe age of twenty years old after more than a decade with his chosen pack, loved and loving.

See, told you it was the long answer.

Where Wolves?

The second part of the question is how did I choose where to situate my packs in the Wolves of Willow Bend. Geography, as well as local culture, played a role in my choices.

Heather's Pack

Hudson River is located in Westchester County. I had the great good fortune of visiting the region several times over the years. It’s both sophisticated and quaint and, ultimately, very beautiful. It’s located in New England where the seasons are magnificent and it’s close to New York City. In so many ways, it has an international kiss while maintaining this deep sense of American history.  The pack reflects these traits, or at least I hope it does.

Willow Bend is located in the Midwest, and I knew it had to be. It’s small town America and a slice of apple pie. It’s a town where everyone knows your name and kids grow up, always planning to do great things and then they come home and keep everything going. It’s about a close-knit community and family ties. They get involved, but they take care of each other.

Delta Crescent is located primarily along the Gulf Coast and in the south. Yes, the home of the Alpha is in New Orleans, but they have all that southern gentility while having the taste of determination, independence and a melting pot of ideas. New Orleans mixes so many other cultures, nationalities and histories together, it’s perfect.

Sutter Butte is located in the American southwest, in harsh territory which breeds hardy folks and a people who prefer their privacy. They don’t have seasons the way they do back east or up north. They have closer border ties and bigger families (which, with wolves, is impressive to begin with) and everything is so much farther apart.

Yukon Pack is located in northern Alaska and includes parts of Canada. It’s cold, it’s remote, and it’s intensely private—even more so than Sutter Butte, if that’s possible. In the cold, icy north, life is not small town quaint and strangers are rarely welcome. In fact, they aren’t seen all that often to be welcomed, so they are more of a novelty. They don’t take for granted the luxuries we do here in the lower forty-eight, and they can exist in harmony with their primal nature.

I hope each pack reflects these traits, but I would argue that, in some ways, I didn’t choose where the packs belonged—they told me. What do you think? Do you have any questions about wolves or Willow Bend?

Fall Tree Blog - Blurb

Cassius, Alpha of Sutter Butte, leads the most ruthless and dangerous pack in the United States. Misfits, castoffs, and forgotten wolves, they rose to create a pack more than a century ago in utter defiance of the order of the day. Seen as pitiless and cruel, Cassius wants more for his people than a yearly bloodbath as they fight for a better spot in the pecking order. To change his pack means to change himself, and he will find rebellion on all sides, not to mention from his own defiant heart.

Sovvan Stark, Omega of Delta Crescent, lives a cherished, beloved life in the center of her pack–a delicate and hard won balance. Though she is not the only Omega, she is the most experienced with the tremors of pack upset when power shifts from Alpha to Alpha. When her Alpha approaches her about Sutter Butte’s request, Sovvan considers the matter for several months. While she might hold within her the key to helping the Sutter Butte Alpha, the undertaking could very well kill her.

Accompanied by a single Hound, Sovvan begins a journey to help Cassius rebuild the foundation of his pack, but first she will have to transform him…

Fall Tree Blog - sm - My review

OMG! Heather Long has done it again! This tale is woven so intricately it captures you and doesn’t let go until the last word is read. Even then you still want more.

This is a difficult book, but so worth every minute. Cassius is a brutal Alpha, he has to be in order to rule. However, he has a vision of what he wants his pack to be and will go to any lengths to achieve it.

With misgivings Serafina, lets her Omega Sovvan decide whether or not she will help Cassius achieve his goal.

There is already unrest with the knowledge of an Omega coming to Sutter Butte, but even Cassius didn’t realize the extent of the hate and brutality that would be shown at her arrival. The action starts right at the beginning and even as they converse, umm, growl at each other you can feel the heat rising between them. A favorite scene of mine is when Cassius sees her on his roof.

“Woman.” Cassius’ voice echoed through the silence, and she jerked her gaze toward the yard, He stood just inside the gates, which closed silently behind him. “What the hell are doing up there?”

“Taking a walk.”

“On the roof?” Irritation pebbled his words.

“Well your yard isn’t that big, and I’m bored.” She actually hadn’t meant to admit the last. “I need…I want out of here. I hate feeling like a prisoner.” Her hand trembled, and the shaking seemed to radiate through her. “I need to run.”

This is the prelude to so much more.

A fast paced if sometimes frustrating read with OMG surprises. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this awesome group of wolves.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - excerpt

Heat rolled in waves from the blacktop of the old highway. Around him, the desert sprawled in its painted glory, seemingly melting into the horizon where it kissed the sky. The colors streaked past him as he accelerated, blowing past the old trading posts and bypassing the interstate with its smoother surface and promise of civilization in the distance. If one sought to journey through the decades, the old highway east of Holbrook was the place to start.

Sweat slicked his back beneath the leather jacket and the motorcycle vibrated between his thighs. Clocking over a hundred, he barely noticed the machine’s growl echoing his wolf’s. Cassius Lucera del Alba, Alpha of Sutter Butte squinted to catch sight of the town he sought ahead.

Though town was a generous description for the collection of ramshackle structures—of which a filling station with a decrepit market attached and a lone bar were clearly detailed. Time hadn’t forgotten the town, it had left it in the dust by doing a hundred and sixty and never looked back. If the location had a name, no map detailed it, not even Google. The poor bastards didn’t even have a ghost to call their own.

Though they might when he finished.

He didn’t slow until he reached the main drag, all eighty-five feet of it and parked his bike in front of the bar. A handful of vehicles were scattered amongst the cracked pavement and gravel. Three he recognized, two he didn’t. Like the bar, the cars were in sad shape and far more popular in earlier decades. Killing the engine, he dropped the kickstand and slid off his baby. Road dust coated her paint and chrome. With a stroke of his gloved hand over the seat, he promised her a bath later.

Leaving the bike, he strode toward the building. No one moved outside, but one wolf stood inside the filling station. He was a smart wolf, he’d spotted Cassius, yet didn’t reach for a phone or make any move other than retrieving his newspaper and flipping it open.

Inside, the cool air rushed over his sweaty face like a sweet kiss. The scents of stale beer, body odor, remnants of the blood spilled throughout the years, and fear stained the experience. The population of the bar—easily a dozen wolves though Cassius scented at least four more in the back—glanced up from their places scattered around the room. Three played pool, four others huddled around a card game while the rest sat in various spots including two at the bar drinking. A couple in the corner paused with her hand down his pants. The bartender—a tall, broad wolf with a balding pate and a world-weary expression raised his eyebrows in silent inquiry.

“Beer. Cold.” Cassius said, and the bartender nodded. A moment later, he set a tall bottle of Corona on the weathered bar top. The sides frosted and a hint of vapor escaped the top. Condensation formed almost immediately on the sides, slicking along the glass in rivulets.

Stripping off his fingerless gloves first. Cassius set them on the bar. Next, he peeled off his jacket. The old leather moulded him perfectly after the many years he spent wearing it. Only after setting it on the bar next to his gloves did he peel off three one hundred dollar bills and lay them next to the bottle. The bartender didn’t say a word as he took the bills, tucked them into his pocket then locked his register and exited through the double doors behind the bar.

Leaning against the aged wood, Cassius swept the room with his gaze. “If any of you are still sitting on your asses, disobeying the direct orders I sent out when I finish this beer, I’ll kill you.” He didn’t raise his voice. Shouting accomplished nothing. Yelling indicated the battle was lost before it began.

Chair legs scraping across the floor splintered the silence. The couple in the corner disengaged. The she-wolf grabbed her purse as she stood. Boots striking the floor punctuated her exodus. No sooner did the door slam shut behind her than the four wolves playing cards toss them down, abandoning their game. The men muttered, but they divvied the pot, then bowed their heads to him one at a time before hurrying out.

Tipping the bottle up, he took a long pull of the cold drink. It soothed his parched throat. One of the pool players threw down his stick. One of the wolves tried to stop him with a hand on his arm, but he shook it off. Then like the other wolves before him, he hurried out the door.

From nearly twenty to only ten—behind feet stomped on the stairs followed by another door slamming. Make that eight. One of the upstairs wolves strode into the bar, and stood in the center of it. Surprise filled his scent at the emptiness in the room. The others waited, their attention divided between Cassius and Finch.

Stupid fucking name for a wolf. Another long pull from his beer, and Cassius was three quarters finished. One by one he met the gazes of the wolves around the room. The smarter ones lowered their eyes immediately, the dumbasses fought to hold his gaze—even Finch.

Focusing on him last, Cassius studied him. Fresh beads of sweat began to trickle along Finch’s cheeks. The wolf swore, then stomped out and slammed the door with enough force, one of the hinges cracked.

Then there were seven.

Lauren_Smith_2014 Lauren Smith

Guest Post from Lauren Smith

With the explosion of E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey, there has been a lot of renewed interest in romance novels with BDSM elements. I had been reading some of the BDSM books before Fifty Shades was released and had really enjoyed the dynamics of what that sort of relationship could offer story-wise.

When I sent out to write the Surrender Series, there was a cataclysmic event that occurred 25 years before the series starts: a kidnapping of two twin 8 year old boys from their family mansion. Years later, only one twin still survives and the effects of this tragic event have rippling consequences over the lives of the twins and their two closest boyhood friends. I wanted to show a group of men burdened with secrets and personal tragedy and how that would play out upon the page with heroines who were brave enough to face the heroes and their pasts.

After I decided to make BDSM part of the story, I knew I had to research it right. E.L. James incorrectly portrayed the BDSM lifestyle with regard to her story and I knew I needed to not make that mistake. BDSM isn’t a lifestyle that comes from abuse, or neglect. It’s situation of power exchange. I liked writing about heroines who were brave but enjoyed submission in the bedroom. It’s not because they are weak characters. Surrendering your control is actually a powerful thing and the dominant partner you are with, they don’t enjoy “taking” the control, they want the submissive to “gift” it to them. It’s a true exchange of power. It’s a symbiotic partnership. Both parties need something the other can give them. I liked the idea of exploring this in a romantic setting.

The most important thing I wanted to do when writing about BDSM was show readers that submissive women in the bedroom are not timid mice, nor are they doormats. Instead these are powerful, smart, brave women who just like to let a man take control in bed and that there is nothing wrong with that. And I loved writing sexually explosive, dominating alpha males who by the end of the story, are complete teddy bears emotionally when it comes to the women. So there was the fascinating emotional exchange. The heroines gave up control in bed, and the men gave their hearts to the heroines in exchange. It was a lot of fun to write how all of this power plays came out.

In The Gilded Chain, I have the hero Wes, the most dominant and into BDSM out of all of the heroes so far featured in the series and he takes the heroine most innocent to that culture. Callie is a virgin, and she knows nothing of the world outside her ranch. I wanted to give both Wes and Callie a setting that would play into the mystery, excitement and sensuality of their upcoming adventures that would both romance and seduce the reader. Paris was the natural choice. Wes is an art lover, Callie is an artist, and the entire city is made for love. And that was the most crucial part for me. When I write BDSM into my books I don’t fill the pages with tons of sexually explicit, graphic sex scenes, instead, I gently ease the reader into the world, and tease them with elements of the lifestyle and all the while I put the focus on the romance, not just the sex. Because for me, it’s all about the love story in the end and if you have a few spankings along the way, well that just spices up the happy ending.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - My review

I think this is my favorite story in the Surrender Series to date. Callie is so sheltered and naïve and Wes is so worldly and I’m sorry to say it, blasé.

Callie has loved Fenn for years, but he never saw her as more than a friend, a little sister. Now he is engaged and her heart is broken. Her father has no idea how to make her feel better.

From the moment Wes saw her Callie wanted her. He knew she needed time, but he found her irresistible. His idea of a bet was a win/win for him. For Callie, it could mean so much more.

I loved the build up in this book, the internal struggles for both of them. The challenge of the bet, to art lessons at the Louvre. His patient, well kind of patient, introduction to his lifestyle, was incredibly hot. I loved that Callie’s knowledge of BDSM was from her romance novels, she must have read good ones. All that and an art theft to solve.

A beautiful romance that builds from sizzling seduction scenes to the passionate taking of her virginity. A journey into submission for her, and unconditional love for them both.

SummerBlog My Review

Set in a small town in the jungles of Columbia, this story takes us on quite the adventure. Zoe is the director of the small clinic with 2 other doctors and a couple of nurses. This is her first assignment outside the US since she was kidnapped in Mexico.
When she runs into Lee Wheeler who rescued her in Mexico she tries to sneak away unseen. Of course this is impossible in such a small town. He is there investigating, leads on the group claiming responsibility for the bombing of the Headquarters of Médecins International .
When things between Lee and Zoe get hotter and steamier than the Columbian weather, she finds herself fighting the attraction.
Then at odds with Lee over an incident that could put her clinic in danger, she heads off to do some visits to outlying villages. In an effort to help she winds up knowing something she shouldn’t and her life and that of her nurse are in danger.
I found myself holding my breath at parts of this book, it’s dangerous, exciting, sexy, and impossible to put down.

As soon as the guards left the room, the man rose to his knees and leaned over, shaking the hood off. He was
definitely a tourist. His dark hair was cropped close and gleaming; she couldn’t tell if it was dark brown or black. He had the same expensive look as his jeans. His fair skin was clear and clean shaven with just a hint of shadow, and he had the sort of profile she’d only ever seen on a movie or television screen. He wouldn’t be here long. Either he had a family with money or he worked for a company that would want him back. She realized he was giving her the same level of scrutiny, and felt a small rush of fear. They were both bound, so surely he couldn’t hurt her, but there was something dangerous in his eyes. Which is why she didn’t expect them to soften the way they did. “Zoe Rodriguez?”
She was too startled to answer, but just nodded.
He glanced toward the locked door and pushed himself to a crouch, the movement oddly graceful. She fought not to flinch when he came over to her. “My name’s Lee Wheeler. I’m with the CIA. I’m going to get you out of here.”
The sudden lump in her throat caught her by surprise. She tried to keep her face schooled as she studied him. There was no trace of anything but sincerity in his blue eyes. “How do I know you’re telling the truth?”
“You don’t.” He flashed a quick, humorless grin. “I’m not precisely carrying my credentials at the moment.”
Another careful look over his shoulder. “Trust me until we’re out of here, and I promise I’ll show you all the proof you need.”
Zoe’s throat ached and her eyes were stinging. She would not cry in front of a stranger, but the relief was threatening to overwhelm her. “Why?” she said. “I mean, I’m nobody.”

“Médecins International doctor, working as an emergency surgeon in a refugee camp in Oaxaca—that doesn’t sound like nobody to me.” He started to say something else but froze, then threw himself over to where the guards had initially pushed him.

The hood.

Talks With Fists came in with the filthy bucket that served as a toilet, then dropped it, cursing and yelling at Lee to close his eyes. Lee did, but the guard cuffed him across the cheek before pulling the hood over his head again.

I’ve always called Michigan home, despite some deep family roots in Kentucky. When I was five, I asked for a typewriter for Christmas because I knew I wanted to write books. I realized then that the blank white space needed words, and panicked. These days the blank white space is on a computer screen instead of paper, and there’s usually less panic and better spelling. Usually. My first love has always been for stories that have larger-than-life heroines and heroes fighting an epic battle against evil or having an epic romance-or even better, both. If I’m not writing, I’m feeding my story addiction any way I can: raiding Netflix, pillaging my local bookstore and library, and (most recently) tearing my way through the comics archive at Marvel. I live with a ridiculously adorable dog and possibly more cats than is sensible.

SummerBlog My Review

I have to admit I have not read Tease Me – Book 1 of this series, but this one has me wanting to sit down and do just that followed by the rest, and all her Santini books too.
This is a story of healing and moving on.

Zoe Jones is ready to be released from the hospital and has been shanghaied by Joey Santini, her brother-in-law’s mother. While there, Joey arranges a dinner to which she invites Jessie Johnson, a Marine working at the pentagon and friend of the family.
I have to admit that the dinner conversation had me giggling like a school girl. Part of that is a favorite scene.

By the end of the meal, Jesse was sure he could take even the most subtle of hints. Of course, Joey wasn’t being subtle at all, so, knowing the woman like he did, he decided to do what she wanted. As they settled back drinking coffee and eating some amazing layered dessert, he decided to take the plunge.

“Have you seen much of DC before, Zoe?”

She shook her head. “I’ve only been here once. I guess I’ll be up here more often if Gee and Kianna decide to retire here. They’ve been talking about it. Although, I’m not sure she wants to leave Valdosta State.”

Kianna was a professor in the small Georgia town where Gee was stationed.

“So, since Joey isn’t going to let it go, why don’t you come out this week with me?”

“That is the rudest thing. And at my table,” Joey said, but he knew she wasn’t that mad. Papa just laughed.

That sparkle returned to her eyes. “If I don’t say yes, she’ll probably yell at me later.”  Jesse nodded. “And I was taking some time off this week. I missed the blossom festival because I was in San Antonio for work, but it’s still pretty. Why don’t we get together and go see the monuments.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“There, are you happy?” he asked Joey.

“You are incorrigible.”

“I have to disagree with you there. Leo is kind of a pain in the arse, or so says Vince.” Zoe laughed. “Vince says that about all of them. See, you’re the oldest, just like him, so you think all of us younger siblings are idiots.”

He considered that with mocking deliberation. “But you are.”

“Maybe now I should tell Joey I don’t want to go to the monuments with you.”

He chuckled. “No, that’s one thing I don’t want to deal with.  She’ll blame me.”

Joey looked from him to Zoe then back to him again. “I am sitting right here. You two are worse than my own children.”

Zoe laughed. It was the first genuine laugh he had heard from her since he came to the house. It bubbled up out of her and made him smile.

The dinner party begins a series of dates and a relationship they both will have to figure out. A lighthearted read with some sizzling sex and a couple of twists.

MelissaSchroderMelissa Schroeder

From an early age, Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since the publication of her first book in 2004, Melissa has had over fifty romances published. She writes in genres from historical suspense to modern day erotic romance to futuristics and paranormals. Included in those releases is the bestselling Harmless series and her USA Today Bestselling series The Santinis.. Along the way she has garnered an epic nomination, a multitude of reviewer’s recommended reads, over five Capa nods from TRS, eleven nominations for AAD Bookies and regularly tops the best seller lists on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Since she spent her childhood as a military brat, Melissa swore never to marry military. But, as we all know, Fate has her way with mortals. She is married to an AF major and is raising her own brats, both human and canine. She spends her days giving in to her addiction to Twitter, counting down the days until her hubby retires, and cursing the military for always sticking them in a location that is filled with bugs big enough to eat her children.

SummerBlog My ReviewWelcome back to Ashwood Falls.  I love this shifter series, wolves and leopards in the same pack. Interacting to protect and secure their land as well as their families/pack mates.

In this latest book, Ana and Kieran have to face their issues about mating and each other’s fiercely protective natures.

The man whom Ana had thought to be her father Felix (former Alpha of the Onyx pack) has located his mate Savannah (a powerful dark witch and leopard) and freed her. Revenge is their priority as they seek their daughters. Sable who is wanted by the Alphas for crimes committed with her father, and Ana, now with the Ashwood Falls pack, her true family.

One of my favorite scenes is in the beginning of the book, after Sable sends her son away to Ashwood Falls and has been taken by her parents.

Light scratching sounded at the back door. Relaxing, she stood. “I think I hear Cora’s bobcat cub.”
Spring ran free around Ashwood. It amazed Ana how the cub knew not to leave the den.

Ana opened the back door and gasped. Curled up on the welcome mat with a backpack next to him was a young jaguar. But not just any jaguar. “Nigel?”

He lifted his head and gazed into her eyes. A tidal wave of sorrow slammed into her. No, please no. She glanced back at Kieran, her vision blurring. Kieran stepped forward, picked up the cub and carried him to the fire.

Ana sat cross-legged next to Nigel, stroking his fur until he warmed enough to shift. When he did, he threw himself at Ana, hugging her tightly. She hugged him back while pulling the blanket from where it had dropped on the couch and wrapping it around his naked body to keep him warm.

“Mom…they took her.”

Ana’s heart froze for a brief moment and her blood ran cold, but it wasn’t from the weather.

“Felix and a witch.”

This is the beginning of many revelations, including the revelation to Nigel that his father wasn’t dead but living here in Ashwood Falls.  With Felix and Savannah together again, the knowledge that the war could escalate quickly makes finding Sable a priority. Jared her mate although he had broken the bond could still sense her and would lead the search with his son Nigel.

Kieran and Ana’s relationship goes through many surprises, changes and compromises as this latest episode unwinds.  Many emotional scenes, as well as very hot ones.

In spite of it not being a short book, it was a quick read since I couldn’t put it down.  It brings closure to some questions and then starts another bunch which I am sure are the basis for the next book in the series.
