blurb-fall-cornucopia

Mary “The Edge” Reynolds is the most sought-after back office operative around-the creative genius pulling the ultimate bad-asses out of impossible situations. She’s never failed on a mission, and she’s not about to fail on the most important mission ever-keeping her newly designed security system safe. Relying on others isn’t in her nature, but the newly formed Arsenal is her only hope for escape when she’s kidnapped.

She is the Edge.

The Edge never breaks.

Never quits.

Dylan Mason and his brothers have put everything on the line to form The Arsenal. When the paramilitary arena is rocked by Edge’s capture, he’ll do whatever it takes to get the fearless operative back, but his wary heart isn’t ready to handle the vulnerable woman buried beneath the hardened shell. Getting her back was simple. Keeping her and her “security system” HERA out of enemy hands is another story.

Together they must hunt down the faction behind her capture and subsequent torture to keep HERA from becoming an unstoppable terroristic threat. What they uncover could destroy them both.

review-fall-cornucopia

When I read a book I can ‘see’ the scenes in my head, and this is a very intense book. I feel this needs a warning since I believe some scenes could cause triggers in individuals with PTSD.

Mary Reynolds is ‘The Edge’. Working for the Hive she is the person in the background that gets teams out of fubar situations in one piece. Now she is facing the one mission she cannot fail, keeping ‘HERA’ her security system safe, and keeping herself alive.

Kidnapped and tortured, her mantra:
Someone will come. Stay strong. Stay quiet. Stay focused. Survive.
Carnes, Cara. Jagged Edge (The Arsenal Book 1) (Kindle Locations 79-80). Rebel Edit. Kindle Edition.

But ‘The Edge’ has to relax and be just Mary in order to continue being the asset she is.

Dylan Mason and his brothers formed the Arsenal, former military they undertake missions others won’t or can’t working in all the gray areas. They’ve also established The Warrior’s Path Project to help soldiers returning home to transition back to civilian life.

An anonymous call led them to Edge and her rescue. Now they needed to figure out who was responsible and make them pay.

Mary wasn’t alone in the creation of HERA, Vi, her bestfriend and her main partner worked beside her at the Hive. Rhea and Bree contributed power and weaponry respectively, although their identities have been kept under wraps to keep them safe. Then there is Addy, the sister of the deceased head of the Hive. This is one of my favorite scenes when this crew of women come to get their Edge.

Dylan entered a war zone, Logan and Mark hot on his heels.  Gage Sanderson and all five of his brothers knelt, hands behind their heads with the business end of weapons trained at their heads. It was who held the guns that made him laugh.

“Jesus, y’all were taken down by GI Jane wannabes.”

A blonde with red, wire-rimmed glasses glanced up from a laptop. She looked over at the redhead, the only trained one among the four females, and motioned her head toward him, eyes wide and expressive.

“Bree, point your gun at the new Rambos. Pull the trigger if they twitch,” the redhead ordered.

Bree was a busty blonde dressed in head-to-toe black with huge lines of face paint beneath expressive blue eyes, which gleamed with excitement. “Seriously? I can shoot?”

Dylan would be worried, but she was holding a tranquilizer gun of some sort. Drones flitted about in the air. One shot past his head and darted down the hall. He glared at Mark. “Go shoot it down.”

“Stay where you are, or I shoot,” the redhead threatened. “I’m coming off a seriously messed up op with no rack time. Try me.”

Yep, she was definitely the only threat in the room. Dylan studied his brothers, noted their drooping eyes and barely upright stances.

“They’re drugged,” Logan growled. “What’d you use?”

The blonde looked up. Eyes wider than saucers stared at them a moment. “Logan? What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’re a part of this.”

“Is this the hot doc who Mary helped rescue, the one you said was trying to get in her pants?” The brunette at the end looked back and forth between Logan and the blonde. “Wow, he’s hot.”

“Rhea, not now,” gritted the redhead.

“Oh, Addy, you’re never any fun. Seriously. Vi has this under control.”

“Quillery didn’t just go ten rounds with six black ops soldiers before that shit in the drones kicked in.” Addy motioned at Dylan with her gun. “Come closer, hands behind your back. This’ll be over quick as long as you all cooperate.”

“Huh.” Vi tapped at the keyboard with one hand. “That’s odd.”

“What? Are there more men in the back?” Addy asked as she looked over at the busty blonde. “Bree, refill the drones with the knockout juice.”

“On it.” Bree looked pointedly at Dylan. “But I can still shoot fast, so don’t get any ideas.”

Quillery set the laptop on the reception desk and charged toward his brothers. Dylan tensed, ready to strike, but she bonked Cord aside the head before anyone could react.

Dallas snickered. Nolan outright laughed.

“What the hell was that for?” Cord demanded with an expression he’d used many times with their little sister when she got violent—which was fairly often since she had six overprotective big brothers.

“Where the hell did you get your hacker training? From a Cracker Jack box?” Quillery’s voice rose, shrill and shaky with anger. “You could’ve gotten everyone killed!”

“What the hell?” Cord repeated.

“What was the message you buried in my feed?” Quillery’s voice softened, a velvety seduction more like the tone she used with operatives.

“We have Edge. Come to Texas.”

Dylan cursed. Marshall growled. Nolan and Dallas laughed. Jesse knocked Cord aside the head.

“What the hell?” he sputtered. “You got the message.”

“Oh, yeah. We got the message, idiot,” Addy retorted. “Take a look around. Do you have any idea what Quillery could’ve put in those drones? They’ve only been used on two ops before this, and both times everyone was carried out in body bags.”

“Never, ever, ever, ever send vague codes through a hack. Brevity is good, but only if it has detail.” Quillery got closer, leaning in until her face was up against Cord’s. “Edge secured in Texas. That was what you should’ve said.”

“Shorter, assures safety and our position in the situation,” Dylan explained.

“Shit,” Cord groaned.

“Does this mean I can’t shoot the thingie?” Bree asked.

“Well, this is all shades of awkward,” Addy commented as she secured her weapon and looked around. “Addy Rugers. Nice to meet you all.”

“Mark, check the perimeter. Verify everyone’s okay,” Dylan ordered.

“We didn’t hurt anyone,” Quillery commented. “Much.”

Addy unshouldered a backpack and handed it to Mark. “Their weapons and coms.”

The man grunted and headed out, a glower on his face. No one liked to be bested, especially by a kick ass female soldier. Addy Rugers was as trained as her legendary older brother had been, or so he’d heard.
Carnes, Cara. Jagged Edge (The Arsenal Book 1) (Kindle Locations 396-434). Rebel Edit. Kindle Edition.

From here an alliance of sorts is formed and the developing relationship between Dylan and Mary becomes progressively hotter.

Lots of twists and turns and OMG moments. Have some tissues and plenty to drink handy. Start this book early so you get some sleep, you won’t be able to stop reading.

I also found myself speculating on who the next book will be about. I have my theories and I’m sure you’ll develop yours.

Winter Blog Review

This book was a gift in exchange for a fair and honest review

I love the Black Hills Wolves and have been following as Drew Tao takes his place as Alpha and begins to built a real pack. One of strength, honor and family.

As much as I hate to admit it, something like this had to happen sooner or later. Murder is hard on a pack but when Drew is also shot and in a coma, Ryker steps up as an enforcer should. Wielding his dominance and grabbing the best of the Dominant wolves to aid in the investigation. First, track down the wolf mate of the dead human.

Dani knows her brother couldn’t have killed Sonya he loved her more than life, she was his world. She can’t let the enforcer hurt her brother, he must be mad with grief. To top it off the enforcer not only enlisted her ex-lover Thane to help, but ordered her home.

We all know how well that went over with a determined female, let alone a female wolf.

Thane knows Dani is his mate, but he left to get away from Magnum and the things he had to do for that Alpha. He has some explaining to do, but first he has to find Charlie and bring him back to Ryker for questioning.

As if murder wasn’t enough, there are intruders as well on the edges of pack land. Wolf trespassers and humans.

Distraction is the last thing Thane needs but he seems to get it in spades. Dani can be quite the innocent nuisance. Lots of pent up anger and lust wrapped up in danger and sorrow.

I laughed and cried and bit my fingernails…I LOVE THESE WOLVES!

Now don’t get upset, this is a cliff hanger, but not too bad of one. There are three more books in this mini-series within the series.

My Review of A Shadow’s Embrace By Cara Carnes

A Shadow’s Embrace
Indigo Shadows – An On The Run Novella
By Cara Carnes

1f25f-addtogoodreads

SummerBlog Blurb

On the run from evil, her only hope is the Shadows.

Devyn James escaped hell once. Kidnapped from foster care at seven and raised in a psychic genetics testing facility, she survived by hiding her ability. A rare technopath, she eventually broke out of the facility with the help of the Shadow Elites—General Conver’s super soldiers, who rebelled and now fought to protect psychically enhanced humans. Determined to help the cause, she formed Indigo Order—a foundation focused on providing food, shelter, medicine, training and support for the displaced lower level psychics, especially the children tossed to the streets by Conver years ago.

For the past few months Devyn, or Indy as she’s known on the street, has covertly passed intel to the SEO. Even though the street doesn’t trust the Shadows, she does. They rescued her once and she knows they’re the only ones who will be able to save her from Conver and figure out what she uncovered.

Dagan is determined to save the female being chased by Conver and his squadron. He soon discovers her identity and vows he’ll do anything to keep her protected—even if it’s from herself. But the sultry female proves to be a handful when her team is in the crosshairs. When one of them is captured, he must prove she can trust him and all he offers, even though he may not believe someone as good as her should be with a Shadow.

Together they discover everything is possible when you trust A Shadow’s Embrace.

SummerBlog My Review

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When you open this book, you open the door to an action packed, nailbiting adventure. Each psychic has different abilities and levels in this world,

Devyn/Indy is a technopath, she can find and analyze data telepathically. This is a talent she managed to keep hidden when she was captive in the facility. Her foundation, Indigo Order, helps those thrown out or ignored by the facility.

With the help of her crew, Dane a telekinetic, Rider a telepath, Cadence an audiopath, and Mia an empath, she has been covertly using her ability to help the SEO, find information that can lead to the destruction of the General. Except this last time, she hid away from her crew and found something in that wealth of information that has put her on the General’s radar. She just doesn’t know what.

When the Shadow Elite show up to get her out of that very sticky situation, she meets her contact Dagan for the first time.

Dagan is a telepath/manipulator, he can use his psychic powers to make someone do what he wants them to do.

With her team in danger and one missing, Devyn needs to go back in, to get the data and gather intel required to find Rider. They put together a crew similar to Indy’s consisting of Dagan, Kaegan their leader, a telepath/empath, Ace a tech geek, twins  Corbin and Cash see pasts of objects and people, Rex and Trent telepaths.

In order to get Rider out of the General’s clutches the Street crews and the Shadows will have to work together for the first time. It’s an interest gathering to say the least.

Intense emotions of time spent in the facility assault the Elites as they sort through the information Devyn has obtained, and find a disturbing truth.

There is so much going on, and in spite of it all or maybe because of it Devyn and Dagan form a very hot and intense relationship.

This is one of my favorite passages, found near the beginning of the book, as Dagan and Devyn try to find common ground.

“If you think I don’t respect what you and your crew do, you’re crazy. It takes balls, brass ones, to put yourself on radar to help others. Y’all do that without the tactical training we’ve got behind us.” He squeezed her arm slightly. “Not a single Shadow I know isn’t terrified at the thought of Conver getting his hands on you or someone in your group. We’ve seen what he’s capable of. It’s worse than you could imagine.”

“I don’t have to imagine it.” She turned and held his gaze, even though the fiery obsidian depths made her thoughts falter. “You weren’t the only group held. You might’ve endured more, had to do more black ops than we could imagine, but I assure you the cages were the same, the restrictions the same. The punishments the same.”

His gaze darkened, narrowed. “You were in a facility? You weren’t in the halfway houses or camps? Which facility? Where?”

She took a deep breath. “I’m not doing this, not now. I’ve said too much as it is. We are well aware of what we risk and why. We aren’t backing down just because we lack the firepower you have. We don’t need guns to pass out food, and we aren’t stupid. That’s why I lob all the serious things to the SEO. You’re equipped to handle what I can’t.”

“I know a few people who’d love to know how you get your hands on that shit.” He crossed his arms. “It looks like there might’ve been something you forgot to lob our way. What went south? Why were you running from Conver today?”

“I don’t know.” The admission made heat rise in her face. “I mean, I must’ve stumbled across the wrong thing. Obviously.”

Fast paced, and hot in more ways than one. I hope there will be more to this series.

Heart of the Wolf
(The Devora)
by Desiree Holt

Shifter Lia Popescu is desperate to find the book Legends of the Werewolf, her only clue as to what happened to her pack. When she loses her heart to the sexy detective Riley Morgan, she wonders how he will handle knowing the truth about her.

My Review

I love this concept of the wolf, the search for family, the loyalty and love.

Lia is searching for the book her grandmother told her to find. The only clue leads Lia to Calderwood for the booksigning of ‘Wolf’ a best selling novel by Jamie Volka.  What she didn’t expect was to be labeled a stalker.

When she is approached by detective Riley Morgan a friend of the Volka’s, an interrogation quickly becomes something more. In Lia’s words, “MATE!”

The problem, Mike Volka is Riley’s friend and the question to be answered is Lia a friend or foe.

A delightful read, filled with suspense as well as fun! I hope this won’t be the last we see of The Devora!

The Ardennes Curse
(Woolven Secret)
by Saranna DeWylde

Victoria’s determined to free her people from the curse that forces them to become mindless, slavering terrors every full moon. Even if it means taking, Armand Rommulus, their new Alpha to mate.

My Review

A darker story of wolves and witches and a curse that must be broken.

After killing the Alpha of the Ardennes Pack Armand Rommulus takes over. First running into the pack Beta Victoria who attacks him but not in a challenge for the position of Alpha, but to try to get him to leave.

He is part Ardennes Witch and he believes he can break the curse. There are obstacles to be overcome, but will he be strong enough to give them what they need. Can he mate with Victoria?

I think I had my fingers crossed throughout this book. I was wrapped up in this tale from the first word to the last. I hope we see more of Victoria and Armand, I think there should be more adventures.

Odd Mate
(Odd Stuff Series, #4)
by Virginia Nelson

Gretchen fell in love with Charly, a sweet, nerdy bear of a man but ran fast and hard from his side when she realized he’d hate her for a genetic twist of fate she couldn’t change. Now she’s back in town and drawn to his side. Can a wolf sworn to destroy all coyotes claim a coywolf mate or will he be forced to destroy the only girl he ever loved?

My Review

Gretchen and Charly had been in love for years, but were separated when her parents moved her away.

Now her coywolf pack Alpha has ordered her to infiltrate Charly’s pack and pave the way for a takeover.

Charly’s pack has opened to accept new members including making a couple of witches honorary pack members to strengthen the pack as a whole.

This was a fun read with the antics of the witch and suspenseful with the impending threat of the coywolves. I loved the second chance at love. I think there needs to be more of this expanding pack, please!

Running with the Wolf
(The Cascadia Wolves)
by Gayle Donnelly

Abram spends his days protecting the pack children, but he finds himself wanting more. The quiet, elusive kindergarten teacher has sparked a hunger inside him and he knows it won’t be satisfied unless he makes her his mate. When her past comes calling, he must make a choice…defy pack law and bring her into his world or let her run and lose her forever.

My Review

This story touched my heart. Abram protects his Alpha’s triplets Kirra, Sawyer, and Marina. As such he escorts them to school and waits watching until he brings them home.

Since day one, he has had his eye on their teacher Abby Mann. He finally gets up the courage to ask her out and she accepts. Before they can have that first date a blizzard hits and Abram and the children end up staying at Abby’s house.

When the pack’s rangers inform him of a break-in at the school and what was taken a whole new level was added to the protective wolf within.

A wonderful tale of strength and commitment. With lots of good lovin’ as well.

Redemption’s Forgiveness
(The Rending, Book 2)
by Cara Carnes

Marek will do anything to protect his pack and their land, including executing any Outsiders who dare enter pack lands. There’s no soft in war—until Felicity, a curvaceous wolf with more sass than sense limps into Redemption with an impossible tale of betrayal.

My Review

Redemption is preparing for the culling, the process used to vet new warriors for the outpost. Packs have sent their prospects for this process, some more qualified than others.

Marek is out with a group of the greener ones when he scents the blood trail of an injured female wolf. An intruder, not part of the pack and protecting what he senses is a dead cub.

Felicity is an outlander, one of those whose families had fled their packs before the Rending. Injured and being treated by the white dragon doc she had to warn the Alpha Commander.

Marek knows the attraction between them is intense and he has to come to terms with that fact and the fact that the Sentinal Peyton isn’t going to let him go without a fight.

This story has it all, jealousy, lust, love, fierce sex and oh yeah, the war.

I loved this one as much as the first in the series
Redemption.

Under Her Spell
(Keystone Predators, Book 1)
by Brandy Walker

Diego wants Daphne as his mate instantly and is ready to do whatever it takes to make her his. Part wolf, and part witch, Daphne is a little more skeptical of the situation. Her wolf is telling her to go for it while her witchy side balks, knowing Diego will try to suppress her more enchanted side.

My Review

Everyone is gathering for the official ceremonies to bind  Alpha Gideon and his mate Ryder.

As Gideon’s Beta, Diego is assigned to pick up his cousin at the airport, not that he didn’t have enough to do with this wedding. He starts off poorly with Daphne Moore, by arriving late and then ogling a couple of stewardesses. From there things go bad to worse. With all chaos involved with the wedding and naming ceremonies, he doesn’t quite know what to make of the mating call.

Daphne recognizes the mate reaction in herself but is unsure Diego feels it as well. His reaction to a small display of her witchcraft leaves her less than confident.

With her father and his mate demand for her to choose Wolf or Witch. She is Diego’s mate, can’t she be herself both witch and wolf? Gideon and Ryder like her the way she is. Can she mate with Diego and become part of Gideon’s pack?

I seem to have gotten a real taste for this witch/wolf breed. The families in the pack are as diverse as any family. With the boys being snarky and the parents protective. Of course there is that one person in the family who just has to make trouble. Just the back and forth with Daphne and Diego in itself was both amusing and hot.

I look forward to more of the Keystone Predators!

Always
(Dragon Wars #3)
by Rebecca Royce

Robbie Owens has fought the dragons for seventeen years, leading his group of secret, elite werewolves. Tatyana Knox is a human in a world where humans are like unicorns—they simply don’t exist. But she is real and she is Robbie’s mate. If he can trust her, they will turn the tide of the war. But the clock is ticking and Tatyana’s time with Robbie is almost up.

My Review

Unbeknownst to the wolves a human faction has been aiding them.  Hidden away behind technology is a research facility and medical clinic. The personnel there has been studying the wolves for generations, now their time is almost up and as they are preparing to leave the unheard of happens.  One of the wolves remembers.

Robbie remembers Tatyana and her scent, roses, Mate. The humans have technology that can help win this war. Now Robbie must convince them to let them have the broken tech.

Tatyana doesn’t understand the whole mate thing, but she knows she wants Robbie. She is also sick but no one knows why or what she is suffering from.

All this and the Dragon war to boot. I love the way this tale unfolds. Many surprises, very hot sex and stupid, human males. Dang I love these wolves!

This is the third book in this series and while it can be read as a standalone, reading the others first will give you much more to enjoy.

Violet’s Shadow
(Shadow Mates #1)
by Jennifer Kacey

Violet’s spent her entire life aching to belong and she finally finds it in the pack of Shadows she is destined to join. Everything she’s ever wanted in life and love is finally at her fingertips if she’s brave enough to embrace…her Shadow.

My Review

Violet is trying to figure out her life. She rents a cabin in the middle of a protected forest far from society to think. When she notices a wolf that seems to be watching her every move she freaks out.

Rayden the shadow wolf has been sent to protect her. However, three others show up naked on Violet’s porch and all hell breaks loose. Then there is a rush to get Violet away.

While the story has an interesting take on wolves and mating, I found it to be a bit confusing. The appearance of naked men and the wolf protecting her had no back story. There are plenty of hints but no communication not to the reader or Violet. There is also lots of hot sex but there was a lack of connection that made it less than maybe it should have been.

This being the first of a series, I expected to get more of introduction to the characters and the story before diving into sex.
This story just didn’t do it for me.

Wolf with Benefits
(Wolves of Willow Bend)
by Heather Long

After graduating college and spending a summer breaking the law, Shiloh Sullivan needs to make amends and accomplish something for Willow Bend. When her best friend, the wolfish and playful Matt Montgomery moves her in with him, she’s hard-pressed to refuse. But pretending a relationship with a wolf is impossible, and while Shiloh might be human, she knows the rules…

My Review

Mason (Willow Bend’s Alpha) has allowed several involved in the illegal forming of a new pack to return under probation. For Shiloh, a human in the pack, this means living with her parents and ultimately being treated like an errant child. Only allowed out of the house with a specific task the situation escalates from frank disapproval of the pack to vandalism on a grocery trip. Tiffany the pack lawyer’s mate is with her and the discovery of two flat tires on her car and broken windows on another, quickly gets escalated.

Matt has always been Shiloh’s best friend, he is also a wolf. He sneaks Shiloh out for some beers and a talk after witnessing how angry her family is with her. After half formulating a plan to have her play his perspective mate, he decides to make it official when he comes upon the vehicle being investigated. To the amusement of Tiffany, he makes a public display of affection as he informs Shiloh of his intent.

This story takes us on a journey both with family and friends to find the path to forgiveness and love. I love the Willow Bend wolves and can’t wait for the next one River Wolf to be released.

The Alpha’s Saving Grace
(Lonestar Wolf Pack #1)
by Melissa Schroeder

Alpha Jacob Sanderson doesn’t have time for distractions as he hunts a vicious killer attacking his pack. Sheriff Alexandra Littlefoot is his best resource and a woman he can’t seem to resist. As secrets rise to the surface, the killer’s violence escalates and threatens to destroy the entire pack.

My Review

Alex has more to contend with than just being new Sheriff in town. It seems the town drunk’s wife thinks she arrested him because of “a fixation on his manly person” and has questions as to her sexual preferences. One of her deputies (Dillon) hit on her (kiddingly) and the Mayor (Jacob Sanderson) has come up with some similarities between some out of jurisdiction murders. Ah Mondays! Not to mention she feels an attraction to Jacob that she can’t come to terms with, one does not date the boss.

Jacob has a feeling that Alex is his mate, but since she’s not a wolf he tries to ignore it. Unfortunately for him the more he is with her the less control he seems to have. As they investigate the murders there is the suspicion that it is someone in his pack, not a thing that could be hidden from the Alpha.

I love this take on wolf human mating. Very unusual and very cool. A strong Alpha and a strong female, combine for explosive sex and arguments. I look forward to more of this series.

Mira grew up in a savage tract of existence known as Hell’s Highway—a parcel of land for genetically impure humans (Impures) cast out during a savage battle between humanity’s government  the NAH) and the Paraspecies. When a cease fire was declared, the two opposing sides retreated, regrouped, but the fight for survival had just begun for Impures forced to exist within a kill or be prey existence.
As a runner for The Alliance, Mira ran messages and provisions back and forth between her camp and Redemption—a bartering outpost created by the Paraspecies to help Impures within Hell’s Highway. But for the past two years Mira has been a prisoner of war, detained and tortured in an unsanctioned NAH facility within the lawless lands of Hell’s Playground. Now free, she must risk her life to fulfill a promise made to a fellow prisoner—travel to Redemption and enlist the aid of the Paraspecies. Returning to the outpost, though, means reuniting with the Alpha wolf she’d once hoped to have a future with.
As Quadrant Alpha of the most dangerous section of Paraspecies land, the last thing Adrik needs is the Impure from his past suddenly returning after two years. He ripped Hell’s Highway apart searching for her two years ago, and his pack reaped the consequences of his shattered soul. Now, with a civil war threatening on his southern border, the constant battles with the succubae on his eastern border, and the latest command from Headquarters to assume the role of Alpha Commander, he doesn’t have time to wander around Hell’s Playground searching for a secret facility no one believes exists.
But the temptation to spend time with the Impure he’d once intended to mate proves too tempting. Together they must heal the wounds their time apart created and find a way to survive the dangers awakened.

Dragons, gryphons, and wolves, succubi, mages and half-breeds and impures. Oh My!  All of these are present in this tale of betrayal, survival, loyalty and love.
Mira was thought to be the Alpha Adrik’s mate. She disappeared two years earlier and had been imprisoned off the radar in a place unknown to anyone connected with Redemption.
Worse was she remembered. No one ever remembered they were brain-washed each night. Somehow she was not and they don’t trust her.
Somehow she has to get Adrik to believe her and return to free the others imprisoned there especially the one who helped her to endure the torture. The one responsible for her memory not being totally erased, the one she calls Deimos.
A favorite scene is after they have destroyed the facility and have stopped on the way back to redemption.

Heat settled in his eyes when he looked at her. He closed the distance between them and wrapped an arm around her side, drawing her into a half embrace. She hid her grimace in his shoulder and inhaled his scent. She surrendered to the weakness in her limbs and leaned into his strength.

“Fuck, sweetheart. I was an ass.” His hot breath fanned her earlobe and she shivered as a trill of pleasure swept through her. “Seeing that place and knowing you were there, suffering and defenseless, did something to me. Adding Deimos into the mix awakened my wolf, made me snarl and spew shit I shouldn’t have.”

“I wanted to share more about him with you, but I made a promise. He didn’t want anyone to know about him, the fact he was a Paraspecies,” she whispered as she pulled back to look up at him. Warmth settled in her belly and fluttered southward into a splay of tingles that made her legs weaken for an entirely different reason. “I missed you.”

He squeezed her waist and drew her forward until all she inhaled was him. Her pulse quickened. “I’m thinking we need some alone time, sweetheart.”

“Can you get away? Is it safe enough?”

He feathered her lips with a kiss. “I’ll always keep you safe. They’ll never touch you again.”

Then all the real fun begins.  I love this world, and the way we are introduced to it. The beginning of the book introduces us to the terms we will see throughout this book and future ones. The characters are very diverse yet all bound to the quest of a secure future for not only the paraspecies but the Impures as well.
I am looking forward to more of this series.
