Summer Blurb

Winning the bet should be easy. Keeping their hands off each other is a lot harder…

After losing everything, socialite Lola St. James moves to Texas to convert her only possession, Red Oak Ranch, into a luxury bed and breakfast. After all it can’t be that hard to trade in a pair of stilettos for cowboy boots.

Jack Canyon, her estranged husband and co-owner of the ranch, vows to stop her from turning his home into Barbie’s country hotel. He knows her promises are meaningless, and he needs the land’s mineral rights to expand his business. He bets everything she won’t last a week as a cowgirl. She agrees—if he’ll turn over his half of the land. No problem.

Except now they’re forced to live together. New flames reignite until Lola and Jack can’t deny the red hot sexual tension between them. But when old betrayals resurrect, Lola must choose between running away or staying in Jack’s arms…

Summer My Review

What does a guy do when his estranged wife shows up at their ranch intending to make changes? He bets her she can’t pull off her plans and if she loses she leaves. There is another hitch though, no one in town knows they are married. That part of their lives took place in another state, in another time.

Unfortunately for both of them that information will be real quick to leak. Especially since they still have a wild attraction to each other.

Lola is determined to turn the ranch she co-owns with Jack into a bed and breakfast. For once she will see something through and make it a success.

Jack knowing her penchant for not finishing anything she starts allows her to begin transformation of the ranch house.

Although this starts off with both arguments and heat sparking, One of my favorites scene is when the car Lola bought won’t start. Used cars are fun like that and she really doesn’t have the extra money to spend on it.

He left the kitchen, but a few moments later, he realized he wasn’t ready for the sight in front of him. Lola St. James, her delectable ass up in the air as she leaned over the engine.
Libido stirred strong and hard inside him, and he had to evoke all kinds of cockblocking images to wipe the very real one just before his eyes. Time to think about Dad, politicians and buckets of icy water. Anything to yank the blood pounding thoughts invading his brain, and corrupting his soul. But no descriptions surpassed the cold truth, no matter how much he’d tried to fool himself. We aren’t done. Not yet.

Straightening his nearly sagging shoulders, like he’d just been punched in the gut, he crunched the dry leaves under his boots, and walked over to her.

Perhaps sensing his nearness, she arched back, easing the kinks out of her back.

A hot pink shirt outlined her voluptuous breasts and indented the sensual curve of her stomach; the same shorts he’d seen her wearing on the horseback ride showcased her sinful long legs. The thread of sweat on her face and glistening between her breasts assured him she’d been under the sun for a while.

He cleared his throat. “What are you doing?”

She jammed both hands in her pockets, a pang of frustration in her eyes. “Trying to get this sucker to work.”

He gave a sideways glance to the bare engine. “What’s the problem?” “It won’t start. I popped the hood and hoped to see some smoke or something to clue me in as to why this is happening.”

Turning his attention to her, he placed his hand over his eyes to fight the blinding sun. Bad idea. Rays hit her head and shone around, producing a halo effect, outlining the curly ends of her hair—that would look glorious, spread on his pillow. With a shudder, he curled his fists into balls. “And what would you do if it smoked?”

She chewed on her lower lip. “Besides praying my skin wouldn’t get oily? I hoped to find an open lid I could close. It seems easy enough in the movies.”

Smothering a chuckle, he leaned onto the engine. After a quick survey, he shook his hands. “You need a new alternator. It won’t start like this.”

She slapped her forehead and sighed. “Of course.”

He closed the hood and tapped the metal. “I can ask Earl to sort this out, but it’ll take at least a few hours to get it done,” he said, describing the best case scenario. Earl would have to stop his work and go into town to buy a new alternator and hire a mechanic to change it.

“How much will it cost?”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.”

“No. No. I’ll do it.” She stepped closer to him, and her face sobered. “Not right away, obviously, because I’m broke, but can I pay you back in the future?”

“It’s nothing.” She touched his wrist, demanding his full attention. Heat coiled in his stomach. “Please?”

“Okay.” He choked out the word, and took a step back, taking his tingling wrist away from her.

What to say next? He wouldn’t, couldn’t let her see his control slipped from him. “But weren’t you supposed to go see your dad’s cousin today?”

She shuffled her weight from foot to foot, and lifted her hand over her eyes to look at him. “That’s where I was going.”

“I’ll take you,” he said, and when he heard himself, the spontaneous offer echoed in his ears. He stretched to his full height. She couldn’t drive that piece of junk, and if she found a ride to get there and then needed to return at the end of the day… who would she call? Him. So. He might as well bite the bullet. That’s all this was—a way to avoid more inconvenience later on.

Lola settled for a closed lip smiling, her shift changing from one leg to another. “Your driving me is too much. I’ve been trying to do things on my own.”

“You have, Lola. I’ll just be doing this as… a friend. Maybe you shouldn’t be alone.”

“Thanks, Jack.” The sweetness in her voice, lacking any sexual connotation, cut into his heart.

Friends helped each other. However, how could he be her friend when dirty images and thoughts filled his mind at every turn? The words pounded in his ears, in staccato.

Not. Done. With. Her.

Carmen Falcone. The Cowboy’s Socialite (Kindle Location 1136-1172). Kindle Edition.

With much quarreling and off the charts sex these two just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. But there is of course a few wrenches thrown into the mix as Lola tries to find her birth parents. Nothing like some added angst when you’re starting a business.

A fun read with lots of twists and turns in the relationship.

Winter Blog Blurb

Tiffany Burrows is desperate for a relaxing getaway to get a break from work. When her stepmom offers a few days at the family Canadian cottage, she takes it in a heartbeat. But her dream turns into tense reality when she discovers her sexy, estranged stepbrother under the same roof, and worse: stranded due to a nasty snowstorm.

Travel journalist Santiago Cruz never expected Tiffany to show up during his stay in Lake Louise. Years ago, her reckless behavior stripped him of the family he could have had and he’s never forgiven her. He’s also never forgiven himself for the inconvenient fantasies including his sexy stepsister.

The forced proximity makes them own up to their mistakes and emotions, while starting a rendezvous hot enough to melt the coldest winter…

*Full Disclosure: this novella was first published as part of the Seven Sins anthology (under the title “Accidentally Sinful”). Since then it’s been edited, re-branded and it’s even hotter 🙂

Winter Blog Review

This is the latest of Carmen’s forbidden relationships. An interesting and fun take on what shouldn’t be but somehow is.

Imagine thinking you’re going to be alone in your parents gorgeous cabin in the middle of nowhere only to find you aren’t alone. Your stepbrother is also there. Both of you requested the parent you asked to keep your staying there a secret. Thus you end up together.

Now ordinarily this wouldn’t be problem, but with Tiffany and Santiago this is definitely not the case. Tiffany was driving the car that went out of control and killed his fiancé and unborn child.

Her guilt and his pain combine to make this situation awkward at the very least. However, they both have big secrets, not the least of which is the lust they have felt for each other since their parents introduced them.

This one heats up pretty quick, with a blizzard raging outside and when she backs away from more it just gets more interesting.

This is a scene I really loved.

He heard the sound of the door, much like he had a few hours earlier, when she stormed back into his life. No, not his life. The cottage. The noise from the whispering hollows filled the space, and he marched out of the office. Did she try to walk out in the snow? Is she insane?

A “meow” made him turn his face to the left. A skinny black cat with green eyes curled against the magazine rack. A cat? He’d been at the cottage for a couple of days and never spotted any pets in the vicinity. Alan would certainly have told him.

“Excuse me,” she said, rushing from the kitchen with a couple towels in hand. Tiffany leaned down and started to wipe the snow from the feline’s paws. The cat made a purring sound, and with a different towel she wrapped him, and held him on her lap like a newborn baby.

Of course she was at the bottom of it. “Did you open the door to rescue the cat?”

“Yes. I took a quick shower, then came to the living room and heard her whimpering. I wonder how many days she’s been roaming. Look how skinny she is,” she said, then kissed the top of the cat’s head.

A few candles lightened the living area, and they probably had been her doing too. He suppressed a smile, and gently rubbed his lips against the animal’s fur. The touch brief, yet filled with caring.

His heart squeezed. The only time he’d kissed her skin before tonight had been during a Christmas celebration. Not like he had planned on it, but before he could jerk away, her lips softly touched his cheek. How would her mouth feel against his own? Shaking his head, he willed the memory away. He cleared his thick, dry throat. “You can’t be opening the door in this weather, Tiffany. You have to be careful. Haven’t you looked out the window?” he said, even though just the sound of the angry wind smacking against the window should have been enough to change her mind.

Tiffany lifted her chin, and her gaze locked on his. The fire in her pretty eyes rivaled the candles. “I sure did. And I wasn’t about to let this defenseless poor animal die.”

He rubbed the back of his neck. She had a point. “How do you know it’s a she, and not a he?”

She petted the cat’s head, and then it purred in response. “Because I volunteer at a cat shelter. I can tell the difference.”

“Do you have any cats?” he said, remembering the black and white cocker spaniel who was already a treasured family member when his mother married Alan.

Sadness flickered in her eyes. “No. I love animals, but it sucks saying good-bye to them,” she said, her voice above a whisper.

Saying good-bye when she left the shelter to go home? Or did she mean something else? He leaned forward, as if to hear her better. “I’m sorry about Buster. My mother told me.”

“I know. I went to work, came back and he lay on the floor. He lived for twelve good years, so I guess he had it coming.”

He curled and uncurled his fingers. He had to fight the need to envelop her in a warm embrace. Especially after what just happened. Their gazes met, and passion stirred deep inside him. Blood thrummed in his veins. She must have felt it, too. She parted her lips, as if she meant to speak, then stepped back. The spark faded in her eyes. “Okay. Just keep the cat out of my way,” he said gruffly. Truly, he wanted her out of his way, but since that couldn’t be the case until the next day, he would settle for the cat. Because he couldn’t be jealous of a fucking fur ball. Could he? No. He snorted. That would be beyond ridiculous.

Winter Blog Review

When the tour company she works for is acquired by a new firm the last person Roxie expected to see was Stefano. They have a history, one that is not exactly a pleasant memory for her. Now he would be her boss.

Stefano knows he has to make things right with Roxie. He’d been young and stupid. Now successful and needing her support he takes her to dinner so they can hopefully make amends and move forward.

This is a favorite part of that dinner.

Why didn’t she have better memories from their time together? Another voice rang in his ears. A much raspier one— Never leave a woman unsatisfied. Ironically, John had taught him that rule after Stefano confided in him and told him about sleeping with a girl he had never called again— or checked on. He’d promised John he would call her, or write, after leaving Saddle Creek. But he’d let business and putting the past behind him override that promise. Sadness welled up his throat. He swallowed. “All I’m asking for is a shot. Give me a chance to show you what changes we plan before shutting the idea down.”

“Okay. But I have one condition.”

The Roxie he remembered never agreed to anything without negotiating first. “Go ahead.”

She stared at him straight in the eye, her irises darkening to a sultry green. “I want to show you how important a tour guide is to the company, too. So you’ll come with me while I take a group on tour. If I keep my mind open, why can’t you? Please? It’s only fair.”

He cleared his throat, forcing down the lump. No doubt if anyone else asked, he would have denied the offer— dismissed them, even. After all, he was the boss. However, Luther had explained a takeover like this would run smoother if they got the top employee in their corner— particularly because she would be the one to steer the downsized team in the right direction. Besides… Didn’t he owe her that for all he put her through?

He stretched out his hand. “Deal.”

She glanced at his hand for a beat, and then took it in hers. The brief touch shot a thrill up his arm. Her skin felt warm, soft, lovely. “Deal.”

She withdrew her hand from his, and he could swear her discomfort was almost palpable. Frustration poured over him. Had he been that bad a guy… that bad a lover that she just couldn’t stand him? Maybe his stupid ass had been so fascinated by her as a teen that being with her had meant more than it did to her. Shit. Why did her opinion of him matter?
Falcone, Carmen. Her Heartbreaker Boss (Kindle Locations 248-264). Kindle Edition.

Change is never easy and raising a child alone isn’t either. Roxie has to come to terms with her feelings for Stefano, he would leave again, there was no question about it. She couldn’t open herself up to that hurt again.

Stefano was finding it hard to ignore his feelings, he still wants Roxie. He had to make this conversion a success and Roxie was a big part of it.

A bumpy road, for all involved, with lots of sizzling emotions. Second chances are worth it, aren’t they?

Christmas Secrets
by

Michele deWinton

Winter Blog BlurbSm

All Gabby Phillips wants is a Christmas without drama. Fat chance. Not when the new owner of her department store is tall, dark and dangerous, Nicolas Morganti, the man she ran out on. The same man her father stole half a million dollars from and the man her body still craves in the deepest hours of the night. Now she has to keep her cool, and her biggest secret – because if he finds out he has a son, he might just take the last scrap of Christmas spirit she’s got left.

Nicolas Morganti always gets what he wants. This Christmas that includes his competitor’s huge department store chain. But when he’s told money is missing and that Gabrielle Phillips works there, it doesn’t take him long to point the finger. Nobody’s ever run out on him before, and the way Gabby left was colder than a snow storm. Now it’s time to settle the score. Revenge can be gift wrapped, right?

Winter Blog ReviewSm

When Nick Morganti acquires the Department store chain she works for Gabrielle Phillips is scared. Scared she’ll lose her job and scared she’ll lose her son. Still paying off her father’s debt and faced with increased payments she finds herself on the verge of homelessness without a babysitter.

Nick Morganti has vengeance on his mind. Gabrielle’s father stole from him and he was sure she was the mastermind behind it all when she disappeared from his life five years ago. Now she’s his employee and he discovers he still has feelings for her. Feelings that aren’t part of revenge.

This is a favorite scene after the department head meeting. A look a how confused Nick and Gabby are going to get.

“I know about Fraser. His wife obviously knows about you too and has made him beg off Friday drinks because of it. Poor bastard. What were you trying to get out of him? He doesn’t strike me as someone of influence.”

Her forehead, usually smooth and untroubled, creased like old parchment paper. “You’ve spoken to him?”

“Of course. You didn’t think I’d get to where I am without being able to sense when sexual tension is clouding an employee’s judgment.”

She stared at him. “When did you speak to him?”

“Just now. In the boardroom.”

Her face collapsed in on itself and she laughed. Laughed!

It was Nicolas’s turn to stare. And as he did she pulled at her bottom lip, her eyes glinting at him, inviting him? Promising….? Not letting himself think too hard, he covered her mouth with his. The shock registered in her eyes but as if he’d flicked a switch, suddenly Gabrielle was kissing him back, softening, her body pressed to his chest.

Damn she felt good. Better than good. Despite the huge differences in their height they’d always fit well together, her tiny frame cradled in his broad one. Pushing his hands into her hair, Nicolas wanted to pull her head back, to lay his teeth on her neck, to open her shirt and take what was rightfully his.

Stop it. Nicolas pulled his mouth away but didn’t release her. He didn’t usually do self-flagellation, certainly not over something as small as a kiss, but this hadn’t been part of the plan. Yet as Gabrielle stood looking up at him, he could hardly stop himself wanting to take her right there and then on her desk. Not now. Not ever again. Drawing on every ounce of control he owned, Nicolas calmed his mind and focused on what he was here to do, not on the formidable desire and forbidden tenderness Gabrielle still elicited from him. But you stopped. You’re in control.

“Was that to prove you’re more man than Fraser Kilpatrick? No one doubts you, don’t worry. You’ve got the girls here in a flutter. Although they obviously don’t know what you’re really like. I could make a complaint. That was pretty close to sexual harassment.”

He growled.

A smile returned to her lips. “Don’t worry, I know it’s not worth it. And anyway it’s almost sweet. You think I had an affair with Fraser Kilpatrick? I would never. That’s too much.”

Nicolas was surprised that he felt relieved. Then he realized she hadn’t denied being involved with someone else called Fraser. “Who else would I be talking about?”

Turning her face away from him he watched her shoulders still. When she turned back, her confusion, mirth, every expression he’d just witnessed was gone. “So I have a boyfriend called Fraser. So what? I’m not a cheat or a home wrecker.”

Nothing about being a fraudster. Well they both knew the truth of that; no point going into it again now. She pulled at her bottom lip and Nicolas couldn’t help his gaze going back to it. How did she do it? Get under his skin like that.
Falcone, Carmen; de Winton, Michele. Red Hot Christmas (Kindle Locations 446-471). . Kindle Edition.

From here it just gets better and better. Someone is pilfering money and pointing it to Gabby’s department. Now she has to prove she’s innocent all over again and the realization that she still loves the man can only hurt more.

A page turning delight as Nick finds out more about Gabby and her life since him. But there is one more secret. One that will make or break this relationship.

Christmas Scandal
by

Carmen Falcone

Winter Blog BlurbSm

After doing time for a crime she didn’t commit, paramedic nurse Sydney Bell avoids trouble at all costs. Yet, trouble comes knocking on her door when a dying patient begs her to deliver a mysterious message to hunky Argentine investor Alejandro Soto.

Alejandro needs to publish the one book that will help restore his image and aid his uncle’s political campaign. It’s full steam ahead until a feisty redheaded woman storms into his office and offers a clue to his biographer’s death. He’s skeptical about Sydney, and laughs it off but after she’s attacked, Alejandro realizes he has no choice but to protect her, whether she likes it or not. He can’t have another death on his conscience.

A crazy attraction threatens to make Sydney surrender to her Argentine savior, but will she be ready for the Christmas scandals that will rock them along the way?

Winter Blog ReviewSm

When auto-biographer Frank Lewis is shot he whispers a cryptic message to the paramedic caring for him on route to the hospital. Sydney Bell’s life changes with those few words.

Alejandro Soto has no idea how much his privileged life is about to change when a feisty redhead barges past his assistant into his office. Having just learned of his auto-biographer’s death he wasn’t sure how much weight the woman’s words carried. That is until she gets an email from her job informing her of her partner’s death.

He knows he has to keep her safe at least until they find who killed Frank and possibly her partner. This is a favorite scene when Alejandro follows her concerned for her well-being.

“Sydney. You just left my office. Alejandro Soto,” said the voice on the other end, and her skin prickled as if it’d been stroked with a feather. After the way he pronounced her name, the man didn’t need to identify himself. That wasn’t an accent one heard every day, was it?His South American drawl was cultured, engaging, deep.

“I told you everything I know,” she said, then cleared her throat trying to sound more composed. “How did you find out where I live?” she asked, and a chill skated down her spine. This was not a good thing. The last thing she needed was a stalker— even if he had the sexiest lips she laid her eyes on. Even if in person he was ten times yummier than on her screen— and all the more dangerous. Damn it, Sydney. Hadn’t life taught her a lesson? Men like him would always have leverage over her. They could put her away, behind bars, for things she wasn’t guilty of.

“Remember you had to show your driver’s license and give them your contact information to get through security?”

Oh shit. Yeah. She had almost given them a fake address. Old habits died hard. But they asked to see her picture ID before issuing her a visitor’s badge, and she ended up being honest. “Okay, Sherlock. You got me.” She shuffled from foot to foot. “Why are you here?”

“You stormed out of my office. I was worried about you.” A sigh. “You just lost someone.”

“Thanks, but I’ll be okay. You don’t need to hand me tissues or anything,” she said, having a hard time picturing that ginormous man doing something so delicate. When he had grasped her in his office earlier, his large hands had caused an inside shiver. A man’s touch was not that familiar to her, and especially not that man’s. Imposing. Mysterious. And uncomfortably handsome.

“Sydney, let me come up. I want to make sure you’re okay. Then I’ll go.”

Like she was going to let a complete stranger into her apartment. She heard his long intake of breath from the other end of the line, and assumed he waited for her response. She bent over the kitchen sink, the wariness of the day taking a toll on her. Until this second, she had thought her heart was problem-free. Empty. Just the way it should be. Somehow, somewhere her friend had occupied a part of it— tiny enough to go unnoticed when she was alive, and big enough to increase the void now that she was gone.

Patty. Words got trapped in her throat.

A creak on the run-down laminate flooring made Sydney straighten her shoulders. Melted ice flowed through her veins.

There is someone here.
Falcone, Carmen; de Winton, Michele. Red Hot Christmas (Kindle Locations 2626-2650).Kindle Edition.

After hiring a private detective they two of them head to Argentina to Alejandro’s mother’s home for Christmas.

From this point on everything is fraught with secrets. Everything but the growing attraction between them. They divulge to each other just about everything and once they hit the bedroom, well sparks fly.

A page turner that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I’ve been known to be an all round arty type so it’s no wonder my first romance has a little sparkle of the stage tucked into its pages. Being a writer was not was I was supposed to be when I ‘grew up’ but then neither was being a dancer. Sometimes my performing past jumps into of the dress up box and requires attention. But most of the time I’m content to stay in my PJs. All day. And I also thinks that chocolate can solve pretty much everything.
