Two-weeks on the beach can deepen more than tans.

Attorney KC Montgomery has loved family friend Drake Gentry ever since they were kids, but she never seemed to be on his radar. Fate puts in the same bar when Drake’s girlfriend dumps him, leaving him with two all-expenses paid tickets to the Sand Castle Resort in the Caribbean. KC seizes the chance and makes him an offer impossible to refuse: two weeks of food, fun, sand, and sex with no strings attached.

University Professor Drake Gentry has noticed his best friend’s cousin for years, but KC has always been hands-off, until today. Unable to resist, he agrees to her two-week, no-strings affair.

The vacation more than fulfills both their fantasies. The sun is hot but the sex hotter. Once home, KC finds it harder than she had expected to go back to her regular life. For Drake, their short two-week fling leaves him wanting more, but what’s he to do when KC makes it clear she wants nothing more?

KC Montgomery witnesses Drake Gentry’s break up with Magda at Leo’s Bar and Grill. Bringing him a beer, he shares he was going to take her to Sand Castle Resort for two weeks of Sand, Sun, and Surfing. KC jumps in and says she’s in, but Drake doesn’t get it. Leo on the other hand does and gives Drake a verbal slap in the head. Now he has some groveling to do.

This is a favorite scene.

KC waved her hand in a get-on-with-it gesture. He nodded.

“Leo said—”

“Oh God. Leo sent you here?” she snarled. “I’m going to kill him.”

“Don’t kill him yet. He sort of knocked me upside the head and rattled my brain enough that what you said this afternoon finally sank through my thick skull. You really want to go with me to the Sand Castle?”

She dropped her head against the headrest. “Great. Just freaking great. You have rattled brains, and because of that you’ve come to see me.”

He laughed. “Not exactly.” He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees. His movement caught the attention of the puppy, who jumped down and ran over to him. The ball of furry energy danced around his feet and Drake picked her up. If she weighed a pound, he’d be shocked. The puppy wiggled and climbed up to his face, again smearing it with her puppy tongue.

“Traitor,” KC said.

“Me or Killer? And what is her name? It isn’t Killer.”

He nuzzled his nose on the puppy’s head. “This baby isn’t a killer of anything.”

“Ha! You haven’t seen the heel of my leather boot.”

He grinned.

“Her name is Jasmine. I call her Jazz.”

At the mention of her name, the puppy’s head snapped toward her owner and she immediately began struggling to get down. Drake set Jazz on the floor and she scurried to KC, who shook her head and picked her up.

“She’s rotten,” she said, but there was no fire behind her words.

Drake leaned back on the sofa and crossed an ankle over a knee. “Okay, as I was saying, do you want to go with me on vacation? You sort of caught me off-guard this afternoon, and I’m sorry for being so slow on the uptake. I’d love for you to come with me.” He drained the remaining water and set the empty bottle on the side table. “But you need to know that I reserved a one-bedroom suite. I’ll sleep on the couch, you don’t have to worry. You can have the bed.”

KC set the puppy down and leaned forward. “You’re asking me to go with you on vacation?”

“Yep. My treat.”

“And you’re not going to make me sleep with you?”

He shrugged and made himself maintain eye contact when what he wanted to do was look anywhere but at her. Damn. Her voice was a little tight and high with that last question. Now what had he done wrong? He didn’t think he’d ever understand women.

“Right.” He dragged the word out. “No obligation.”

She drained her beer. The empty bottle dangled from the tips of her fingers. The side of her cheek sucked as she rolled it between her teeth.

“So no sex. That’s what you’re saying? I just want to make sure there are no misunderstandings this time.”

He nodded. “Sure.”

She echoed his nod and then set her bottle on the floor. “Well then, in that case, no.”

His head popped back. “What?”

Leaning toward him, she said, “No sex, no trip.”

This time, he swallowed hard. Crossed and uncrossed his legs. Adjusted his position on the sofa. “Explain exactly what you’re saying. Use small words and short sentences. I don’t think my mind is hearing correctly this afternoon.”

“Here’s the deal, Doc. I want a vacation with the five S’s. Sand. Surf. Sun. Spa. And sex.” She leaned back in her chair. “And not necessarily in that order.”

“So you want to sleep with me?”

“I want a two-week torrid, scorching-hot affair. No holds barred. Then, we walk away. No harm. No foul. Those are my terms.” She stared into his eyes. “Take it or leave it.”
D’Alba, Cynthia. Texas Fandango (Whispering Springs, TX Book 3).(Kindle Locations 280-308).Riante Romance, Inc..Kindle Edition.

The vacation is all Drake and KC could have imagined and so much more.

This is a short but satisfying read, filled with fun and plenty of antics and some melt your kindle scenes. All set on a gorgeous tropical island.

Sex in a faux marriage can make things oh so real.

Dr. Caroline Graham is happy with her nomadic lifestyle fulfilling short-term medical contracts. No emotional commitments, no disappointments. She’s always the one to walk away, never the one left behind. But now her great-uncle is gone and her grandmother is on her deathbed, more concerned about Caroline’s lack of a husband than her own demise. What’s the harm in a little white lie? If a wedding will give her grandmother peace, then a wedding she shall have.

Widower Travis Montgomery devotes his days to building the ranch he and his late wife planned before he lost her to breast cancer. The last piece of acreage he needs is controlled by a lady with a pesky need of her own. Do her a favor and he can have the land. She needs a quick, temporary, faux marriage in exchange for the acreage.

It’s a total win-win situation until events begin to snowball and they find, instead of playacting, they’ve put their hearts at risk.

When Dr. Caroline Graham’s great uncle James dies, he leaves her the Singing Spring Ranch. The will also stipulates that it cannot be sold to a Montgomery. Not sure about selling, she has the land appraised. She also has worries about her grandmother Mamie with her health failing rapidly. Every time they speak, her grandmother pushes for her to find a good man.

Unfortunately during one conversation, a good man was standing outside her office talking to Lydia, her partner in the clinic, and Travis’ brother Jason’s fiancé. That’s when all the trouble begins.

Travis Montgomery Lost his wife to breast cancer ten years ago, he doesn’t want a relationship and has made it clear he will not marry again. Not that it stops some women, especially twice divorced Elsie Belle, she has decided he will be her next husband.

Now Travis has always had his sights set on owning Singing Springs and is trying to give Caroline the time to decide if she’s going to sell. When she calls and asks him to talk, he assumes it’s about the ranch. Boy is he in for a surprise.

This is a favorite scene.

She traced a finger along one of the carved designs in the mask. She cut a quick glance his way then whipped it away. “Don’t kill me when I tell you this next part.”

He’d been listening and had enjoyed watching the tensing and relaxing of her thigh muscles while she walked, but now she had his undivided attention. Kill her? What had she done?

“One night…” She slanted another look his way. “I swear I don’t know what came over me. One night when Mamie kept going on about me being alone and she sounded so sorry for me and—” The muscles in her face bunched and her lips pulled tight. “I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me…ever. That night I just blurted out that I was dating you. I am so sorry. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose.” A frown creased her brow. “I am so sorry, Travis.”

He’d been confused at the beginning of the conversation, now he was truly baffled.

“Me? Why?”

Her cheeks took on a rosy color. “You happened to be standing outside my office door that day talking to Lydia. You were handy. That’s all.”

He shrugged. Made sense. “Okay. You lied to your grandmother. Told her we were dating. Got it.” When she couldn’t meet his gaze, an acid bomb exploded in his gut. “What is it, Caroline? What haven’t you told me?”

Caroline murmured a very unladylike cussword. “I sort of said a little more than dating.”

An inconceivable thought formed. A sharp cold ran through him, followed by a flash of red-hot fury. “You told her we were married, didn’t you?” He slapped his thigh.

“No. I didn’t. I, um…” She hurried back to the couch and sat. “No, I didn’t. But maybe I exaggerated our relationship a little more than I’d intended.”

“Exaggerated?” Disbelief and amazement flowed like beer at a frat party. His left eyebrow arched. “What the hell are you talking about? You’re a friend of my family’s, but we—you and I—don’t have a relationship beyond that. What were you thinking?” He ran his hand across his short cropped hair. “Hell’s bells, Caroline.”

She flinched. “It gets worse. I, um, oh God, Travis, I told her we were getting married, and now she wants us to get married before she dies.” She shut her eyes and hung her head. “I am so sorry. I just don’t have the heart to tell her I was lying, or even that we broke up. She’ll just feel sorry for me that another guy dumped me, no matter how I try to spin the break-up.” Speaking directly to the floor, she added, “What can I do to get you to pretend?”

“Pretend what? To be in love with you?”

She shook her head. “Pretend to marry me.”

“Are you crazy?”

“Maybe, but…” She dropped her hands on the sofa cushions and stared him straight in the eye. “Hear me out. If you say no, fine, but at least listen to what I have to say.”

He waved her on and leaned back.

“Here’s what I was thinking. We fly to Waterton, Arkansas. There’s a direct flight from Dallas to the local airport there. We take out a marriage license, go to the hospital, let Mamie watch us go through a wedding ceremony, she can sign the danged thing and then we fly back to Whispering Whispering Springs. We’ll never file the license, so there’ll be no marriage. I mean, think of all the times people get a marriage license and never go through with the wedding. That’s what the clerk’s office will think. This would give Mamie so much peace.” She leaned forward and placed her hand on his knee. “Please, Travis.”

The palm of her hand heated his flesh, even through the thick denim of jeans. He’d never noticed how long her fingers were, or that her nails bore a professional-looking manicure.

He mentally thumped his head. Get your head in the game.

“Forget it, Caroline. That’s nuts. No way am I going to con what is probably a nice old woman. First, it’s beyond dishonest, and second, I believe in marriage.”

She dropped her head heavily against the back of the sofa and pulled her hand away from his knee. The heat from her touch quickly dissipated in the air-conditioned room. He immediately missed her touch.

“Will you at least think about it?” She looked at him with pleading eyes and he felt his firm resolve faltering.
D’Alba, Cynthia. Texas Tango (Whispering Springs, Tx Book 2). (Kindle Locations 648-683). Riante Romance, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

Oh the tangled web. Noah is Caroline’s younger brother, he also was being raised by Mamie, and with her passing he is left with their Aunt Leslie and Uncle Patrick. Their parents off doing their missionary work in Rwanda, it was always somewhere, that’s why they were with Mamie to begin with.

Noah shows up at the most inopportune time and blows their secret out of the water in front of the whole Montgomery clan.

It just keeps getting better and better, did I mention Elsie Belle? I laughed a lot throughout this book. The situations are so realistic, well except for the fake marriage thing, bringing drama, love, and family to the surface on every page.

A romance that maybe shouldn’t have blossomed indeed does, and the heat turns up exponentially.

I just can’t get enough of this family!

Their love never died, but her secrets could break his trust beyond repair.

After six years and too much self-recrimination, rancher Mitch Landry is ready to admit he was wrong. He’d loved Olivia Montgomery but commitment wasn’t high on his list back then. That was his first mistake. He’s just divorced his second, and he’s set to do whatever it takes to convince Olivia to give him another try.

Through hard work, determination and more than a few tears, Olivia survived the break-up with Mitch. She’s rebuilt her life around her business and the son she loves more than life itself. She’s not proud of the mistakes she’s made—particularly the secrets she’s kept—but when life hands you manure, you use it to make something better of yourself…lest you get stuck in it.

At a hot, muggy Dallas wedding, they reconnect. Olivia’s first instinct is to play it cool, but after one devastating kiss things flare out of control, real fast. Maybe a quick roll in the hay will get him out of her system once and for all. Funny thing about hay though, once it’s tangled in your hair, getting it out risks revealing things that were never meant to see the light of day.

Warning: Contains hot sex, a vindictive ex-wife, and hot chocolate chip cookies.

review-fall-cornucopia

Olivia wanted to be anywhere but at the airport picking up Mitch. However, Emily the bride-to-be was very persuasive. Mitch was as attractive as she remembered but he is a temptation she doesn’t need.

Mitch has grown up a lot since he broke up with Olivia, his divorce was the crowning moment of his biggest mistake. He’s hoping to reconnect with Olivia and maybe take things where they belong.

This is a favorite scene on the ride from airport.

Pointing a remote, she popped the trunk of a black Mercedes Benz.

Mitch tossed in his bags as well as the one she carried. “A Benz, huh?” His gaze raked over the car. “Business must be good. Congrats.”

“Thanks.” Oven-degree heat rolled from the car when she opened the door. After waiting a minute to let out as much hot air as possible, she slid onto the toasty leather of the driver’s seat. “But this isn’t mine.” She started the car then lowered the temperature controls on the air conditioning. “Belongs to one of the trainers at the gym. My car was blocked in and Mark loaned me his.”

Mitch tossed his hat onto the back seat before sliding into the passenger side. He looked around and whistled. “Nice ride.”

“Yep. Nice guy too.” Moments later, she paid the toll at the south exit and turned east onto Highway 183. “Emily said to drop you at Grayson Mansion. Do you need to stop anywhere first?”

“Like where?”

“I don’t know. Armani store? Walmart? Williams Feed and Tack?”

To her relief, he chuckled at her joke. The deep sound vibrated around the car and straight into her heart.

“Nope. Got everything I’ll need this weekend.” He cleared his throat and angled his body toward her. “So Livie, are you really happy living here in the big D? Don’t you miss the ranch life? The riding? The early morning chores? The nosy small-town gossip?”

Her fingers tightened around the steering wheel and she kept her gaze glued on the traffic ahead. Every glance at him produced a sucker punch to her gut, and she didn’t want him to know how much seeing him physically pained her. “I’m as happy here as much as anywhere, I guess. My business does well. I have friends, so…” She shrugged, pulling the car’s shoulder strap tight across her chest.

“How’s the Lazy L doing?” she asked, referring to his family’s cattle ranch.

“Actually, pretty damn good. Had some bad years with drought and some freaky winter weather, but we kept her going. Now if beef prices would just get back up.”

The pride and enthusiasm in his voice left no doubt how much he loved being part of the family cattle business. With him way down in south Texas and her in Dallas, a big spread of Texas geography separated them.

“Glad it’s working out then.”

She looked at the back of his head as he stared out the side window, seeming to study the landscape as it whizzed by. The ends of his hair were distinctly lighter than the roots, visible now that he’d removed his hat. She suspected his hair had been lightened and his skin tanned from the daily sun exposure of working on his ranch. She’d seen him wear a cowboy hat so many times, and she could picture him on his horse, his hat saturated with sweat, the ends of his long hair soaking up the sun’s rays as he rode behind the cattle. Now that she thought about it, she couldn’t remember ever seeing his hair this long. He’d once told her he always kept his hair short to make the south Texas heat bearable. And while she liked his new look, she had to admit she missed the old one.

“Haven’t had time to keep up with the old crowd. You never did get married, right?” His gravelly voice jerked her mind from reminiscing.

“Wrong. I did.” His question surprised her, but if the shock on his face was any indication, her answer was an obvious bombshell. Her gaze snapped back to the road.

“You did? How come I didn’t know that?”

She shook her head while saying, “I don’t know. It wasn’t a state secret or anything.”

“So you’re not Olivia Montgomery?”

“Of course I’m Olivia Montgomery. I just added Gentry to the end. I married Drake Gentry. I don’t think you ever knew him.”

“I didn’t. Will he be here this weekend?”

“No.”

He gave her left hand a pointed stare. “Are you still married?”

She shook her head. “Divorced.” A pang of regret settled around her heart, regret about hurting Drake, a wonderful man who’d been her rock when she’d needed stability the most. He’d been there for her and she’d let him down so many times in so many ways.

“Hmm.”

“Hmm? What does that mean?” She glanced toward him, wondering why his opinion was suddenly so important. At almost thirty, she ran her own business while raising a wonderful son single handedly. Why did Mitch’s opinion still mean so much to her?

His fingers drummed on the arm console between them. “I’m just surprised. Your marriage caught me off-guard.”

“So I gathered. Why? Did you think no one would marry little old me?” she asked, lifting one eyebrow in a challenge.

He chuckled and placed his forearm on the back of her seat, letting his elbow dangle in the opening between the seats.

His deep-throated chuckle reverberated through her again. The muscles in her jaw clenched at the zap of energy tingling through every nerve.

“Don’t be a goose.” He tapped a knuckle on the side of her head. “Any man would be fortunate to have you as a wife and a fool to give you up. I…I’m just surprised no one told me, especially my mother. They talk, you know? My mother and yours.”

She nodded. “I know.” She also often talked to his mother but some secrets were best left alone.
D’Alba, Cynthia. Texas Two Step (Whispering Springs, TX Book 1) (pp. 15-19). Riante Romance, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

In spite of a very sensuous and sizzling reunion, Olivia walks away. She has a really big secret, one she has sworn many people to silence. This secret can make or break these new feelings she has for Mitch.

Mitch knows she’s hiding something, and he’s wondering who is this mysterious Adam.  He rushes to be with her when she’s taken to the hospital after a fall leaving the wedding reception.

His reaction is priceless when he realizes just who Adam is, and there are so many conflicting emotions.

Olivia has a lot of explaining to do as Mitch pushes to have both her and Adam, join him on his ranch for her recovery.

A conniving ex-wife adds to the already rampant drama as this story unfolds.

You’d think they’d understand that communication is key, but so many secrets for so many years make that difficult.

Plenty of angst, tears, laughter and heat!

I am going back to read the prequel now. Then I will continue with this series.

I confess I read Texas Two Step first and curiosity had me picking this one up. I am reviewing them in order though. So tomorrow you’ll see that book here. Both books are free, so plan to continue on.

This book starts the Whispering Springs, Tx series with Mitch and Olivia attending college in Dallas.

It’s Olivia’s and her best friend Emily’s birthday and in order to uphold the Montgomery tradition they go to the bar where her brothers had their first legal drinks.

This is a favorite scene when Mitch joins them at the bar.

“Olivia Montgomery,” he said with a smile. “What are you doing in a place like this?”

She smiled and lowered her gaze. “Hello, Mitch. I didn’t expect to run into anyone I knew here.”

His eyebrows lifted. “Really? And why’s that?”

She shrugged.

“Ladies,” Joey, the bartender, interrupted. “I’m waiting for some identification. No I.D. and you’re out of here.”

livia turned her attention to Joey. “I’ve got it.” She pulled a Texas driver’s license from her wallet and slapped it on the bar. Her friend did the same.

Joey studied both licenses, looked at the girls, and back to the licenses. “Happy birthday, ladies. What’ll you have?”

“Today is your birthday?” Mitch asked.

Olivia nodded. “Yep. Mine and Emily’s. Oh, I don’t think you know Emily.” She turned to her friend. “Emily. This is Mitch Landry. He’s a friend of Travis and Jason.” She turned back to Mitch. “Mitch. This is Emily Miller. My best friend in the whole world.”

Emily leaned forward and held out her hand. “Nice to meet you, Mitch.”

Mitch shook her hand. “You too, Emily. Happy birthday.”

“Thanks.”

“If you three are through with your meet and greet, I do have other customers. Do you want a drink or not?”

“Ladies, this lovely grump is Joey. Joey, I’m buying this round. Give me another beer. Ladies?”

Olivia straightened her back. “I’ll have a shot of bourbon.”

“I will too,” said Emily.

Mitch laughed. “The Montgomery tradition lives. Give me a shot too, Joey. I can’t let these ladies drink alone. How about three shots of Crown Royal?”

“You got it.” Joey lined up three shot glasses and poured the Crown Royal. He put a fourth glass on the bar and filled it. “I always buy the first round for birthday girls.” He tapped his shot glass against the ones Olivia and Emily had picked up. “Salute.” He tossed back the liquor. “I’ll check back in a minute,” he said and headed down the bar to another customer.

Mitch picked up his glass, tapped each girl’s shot, and tossed his drink down his throat. When he returned the glass to the counter, he noticed both girls still had full glasses. Olivia lifted the glass to her lips and sipped. Her eyes opened wide.

He chuckled. “No, no. Toss it back. It’s the Montgomery way.”

Olivia closed her eyes, put her luscious full lips on the rim, tilted her head back, and tossed the full shot down. Her tongue darted out to lick her top lip. He almost groaned aloud.

The Montgomery brothers were going to have to kick his ass because Olivia Montgomery was the sexiest, most interesting woman he’d met in a long time. He’d be damned if he was leaving until he got to know her a little better.

Emily also meets Wes and they immediately become an item. Mitch and Olivia start off a bit slower, but wow that first date!

Dealing with a sexy ex-girlfriend, a jewel heist, and a kidnapping can make an ex-SEAL bodyguard a tad cranky.

Trevor Mason accepts what should be a simple job…protect the jewels his ex-girlfriend will wear to a breast cancer fundraiser. As founder and owner of Eye Spy International, he should send one of his guys, but he needs to get his ex out of his system and this is the perfect opportunity to remind himself that she is a spoiled, rich debutante who dumped him with a Dear John letter during his SEAL training.

Respected breast cancer doctor Dr. Risa McCool hates being in the limelight for her personal life. Her life’s work is breast cancer treatment and research, which she’d rather be known for than for her carefree, partying debutante years. She agrees to be the chairperson for the annual breast cancer fundraiser even though it means doing publicity appearances and interviews, all while wearing the famous pink Breast Cancer Diamond for each public event. The multi-million dollar value of the pink stone requires an armed bodyguard at all times.

Past attractions flame, proving to be a distraction to the serious reality of the situation.

Risa has hired EyeSpy International to provide additional security for the Breast Cancer Gala. At the event she will be showcasing a necklace containing the Breast Cancer Diamond, a fourteen carat gem worth a small fortune. For her bodyguard she would have Trevor Mason, the owner and founder of the company and the man she gave up fifteen years ago.

Trevor wouldn’t assign anyone but himself to guard Dr. Risa McCool. They had been friends then lovers years ago before he joined the Navy and became a SEAL.

Arriving home late, with Trevor already in her condo there is more than a little snark from both of them.

This is a favorite scene.

“Made yourself at home, I see,” she drawled.

He turned around, leaned on the mahogany bar, and crossed his ankles. “Got a look at the layout.” He smiled. “Your panty drawer was very well organized.”

She rolled her eyes.

“I’ve checked out the building before I came. I met with the building’s head of security when I got here.” He shrugged. “I don’t know why I’m here.”

She gave a derisive snort. “I thought you were a bodyguard. Have I been misinformed?”

“Nope. That’s what I do, but why am I here?” He pointed around the room with the highball glass. “In your condo? Why not put me in a hotel like all the others who are working this event? This is Fort Knox disguised as a condo building.”

She narrowed her eyes, then gave him a stiff smile. “Tomorrow, I’m getting my grandmother’s jewels from the vault and they’ll be here until I can return them on Monday after the gala. Between now and the event, I have six event-related appearances. At first the plan was that I would be wearing the Breast Cancer Diamond necklace at each one. However, the designer doesn’t want to reveal the necklace until the night of the gala. You know, build up the suspense, so I’ll be teasing the reporters by wearing some of my grandmother’s jewelry, which in itself is worth a couple of million or so. Since I don’t usually keep a few million in diamonds in my home, and frankly it makes me a little nervous to do so with the whole world knowing about them, I thought it would be wiser to have someone here instead of having my bodyguard sleeping a few miles away.”

“Okay.” He nodded. “Makes sense.” He pulled out his cell phone and tapped on the screen.

“I’ll want you to escort me to the vault and back tomorrow.”

He looked up at her. “Do you know what time?”

She arched an eyebrow. “Why? You have a date you have to work around?”

“My team from EyeSpy has a meeting with the Dallas police and the hotel security to review the overall security plan for the event.”

“Fine.” She pulled her cellphone from her pocket. “Can you put your phone number in here so I can reach you if I need to?”

He entered his phone number without comment. His phone buzzed. “There. I have your cell number in my phone, along with your home and office numbers.”

The idea that he had programmed her into his phone made her gooey inside, even as she told herself it only meant he was doing his job, not getting ready to ask her on a date.

“What time is the security meeting? I’d like to put it on my calendar.”

“Eight a.m. Why? You don’t need to be there.”

“Since I’m this year’s gala chairwoman, I should be on top of all things related to the event.” He sighed. “Don’t you have to work or something tomorrow?”

“Nope. I’m off until Wednesday. I’m only working one day this week.” She smiled and took a long drink of wine, something she didn’t get to do very often.

“You have a lot of long weekends then?” he said, his tone a tad snarky.

Long weekends? She could barely remember the last time she’d had two days in a row off, much less four. But this event was her baby. The money raised would go a long way in funding more research for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

“Oh yes,” she replied, putting as much sarcasm in her voice as she could manage. “I only, what did you call it? Cut folks? Right, so I only cut folks three days a week.” She rolled her eyes. “I guess you had many long, relaxing weekends while you were a SEAL.”

“How did you know I was a SEAL?”

She shrugged. “Grapevine.”

He grunted. “Mom-vine is probably more accurate. And no, I didn’t get long weekends.”

“Fill my glass, and let’s go to the sun room. I need to get off my feet.”

I really liked Wendy, Risa’s twin sister. Where as Risa is more reserved, Wendy is an almost overwhelming personality.

I was like Risa in that I didn’t think she and Trevor would overcome the hurdle of their history. The sparks were flying all over the place, I’m surprised folks didn’t get burned when they got close to each other.

Nothing is ever easy and there are plenty of twists, turns, suspense and drama in this book along with that sizzling heat. I couldn’t put this book down.

An ex-Navy SEAL agrees to play fake lover
for the Maid of Honor at a destination wedding
only to discover that what happens on a Caribbean Island
can sometimes follow you home.

Nicholas Falcone, aka Nikko, aka Falcon, is five months out from active SEAL duty, putting his pre-service accounting degree to use while going to law school at night. He’d love to take a vacation between semesters, but every buck is earmarked for his education. When a fellow accountant approaches him about his sister needing an escort for a destination wedding, Nikko jumps at the idea. With the wedding families footing the bill, what does he have to lose?

Surgeon Dr. Jennifer Pierce is still stinging from a broken engagement. Going to a destination wedding at the Sand Castle Resort in the Caribbean would be great if only her ex-fiancé and his new wife weren’t also attending. Her options are to find a date or not go, but not going isn’t really an option. That means letting her brother set her up with a guy from his accounting office…Heaven forbid. When did accountants start looking like this?

** Cold Beer ** is part of the Diamond Lakes, Texas Series and Sand Castle Resort series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. They do not have cliffhanger endings.

**Hot SEAL, Cold Beer** is also in the “SEALs in Paradise” connected series. Each book in the multi-author branded SEALs in Paradise series can be read stand-alone, and individual books do not have to be read in any particular order.

I am really loving this multi author series. In this one Nicholas ‘Nikko’ Falcone agrees to help out a co-worker’s sister by attending a destination wedding with her. He needs a vacation after tax season and this trip is all expenses paid.

Dr. Jennifer Pierce wasn’t looking forward to this wedding. He ex would be there with his pregnant wife. The one he got pregnant while he was engaged to her. Jenn was really hoping the guy her twin brother is sending her will be the perfect date, she couldn’t face this event alone.

These two have an attraction neither saw coming, which is fortunate since they would be portraying lovers on this trip.

A favorite scene is when they board the plane and encounter Jenn’s ex for the first time.

“Jennifer.”

She jerked toward her name and looked at her ex. He was dressed in khakis, a green polo shirt, and a puzzled expression on his face. Had his hair always been that thin? And his face…had it always looked so sallow? For some reason, she didn’t remember his lips being so thin and his cheeks so puffy.

Her stomach twisted with nerves as she faced her past for the first time. “Lamar. Sherice.” And that was as nice as she planned to be.

“Hi, Jennifer,” Sherice said, shoving her hand under Lamar’s elbow so she could wrap her arm around his.

Jennifer wanted to laugh. The woman was staking her claim as if Jennifer might try to lure him back.

“Who’s your, um, friend?” Lamar asked.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” She looked down at their fingers intertwined. “This is Nicholas Falcone. Sweetheart, this is Lamar Johns and his wife, Sherice.”

Nicholas extended his right hand across Jennifer. “Nice to meet you. Call me Nikko.”

“Hmm,” Lamar said. “I didn’t know you were bringing a date.”

Nicholas chuckled. “A date?” He knocked his shoulder against Jennifer’s. “It’s been a while since we were just dating. What a fun idea. A weeklong date.”

She giggled and almost gagged at that. She never giggled. The sound had the puzzled look on Lamar’s face even more strangled.

“It will be fun. Remember those early days? How nervous I was around you?”

Nicholas chuckled and put his hand over their interlaced fingers. “Like it was yesterday. I’m so glad I hung in.”

“Me, too.”

“Sir, madam,” the airline attendant said. “You two need to find your seats so we can take off.”

Lamar gestured to the two across from Jennifer and Nicholas. “Can we sit here by our friends?”

Nicholas squeezed her hand, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw him shake his head at the attendant. The young lady, as enthralled by Nicholas’s smiled as Jen was, shook her head at Lamar.

“I’m sorry, sir. No. Please take your assigned seats.”

Sherice pulled on Lamar’s arm. “Come on, Lamar. We are in the first row.”

Lamar allowed Sherice to tug him forward, but he scowled over his shoulder.

“I don’t think your ex is happy you have a date,” Nicholas said.

“Yeah, well, breaks my heart.” She leaned on his shoulder. “I remember him being better looking.”

“You can do so much better.” He leaned over and kissed her.

“Okay, you two. Knock it off,” Deloris said from the row in front of them.

“Yeah,” Tony, Deloris’s fiancé, said. “You’re making the rest of us look like slackers.”

The teasing playfulness of the interactions between these two eventually comes to a head. I loved the slow build of this relationship and then the heat that reaches white hot.

Plenty of fun with the activities the bride and groom had planned for this week of celebration and an encounter with the ex that had me cheering Nikko on.

Laughter, fun, snark, sizzle and so much more, make this a must read!

Kindle Worlds is Closing! Here are some of my favorite worlds and Authors within them!

Kindle Worlds will be gone forever
July 16th 2018!

This deeply saddens me, I have found many new to me authors by seeing them in these worlds.

It was always a place to find quick, inexpensive reads that blended with another author’s characters and settings.

I have heard that some of the World owners are going to continue them on their own and some will need to have an acknowledgement of the originating series before republishing. Yet others may go away completely. For some worlds no decisions have made as to their fate, as this news just broke.

This is a response to a reader friend from Amazon:

For five years, Kindle Worlds has been thriving, engaging writers and readers who enjoy writing in one another’s worlds, and we’re proud of the work we’ve done together. While we are closing Kindle Worlds, Amazon is constantly innovating on behalf of our authors and readers, and we look forward to continuing to do so.

As of May 17th, Kindle Worlds will no longer be accepting new submissions. Previously published Kindle Worlds stories will no longer be available for sale on Amazon.com on or around July 16th. The Kindle Worlds website will be closed on August 29th.

Rest assured previously purchased or borrowed Kindle Worlds stories will remain unaffected.

With that in mind and since the time is short until they are gone, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Worlds and Authors from them. I hope you will take the time to browse through these links and possibly enjoy them as much as I have.

I put the link I have for the main world and then covers that link to Amazon for individual authors within those worlds that I have read and enjoyed.

I would also like to thank the owners of the worlds that so many wonderful authors wanted to play in, Elle James, Susan Stoker, Paige Tyler, Desiree Holt, Sable Hunter, Millie Taiden, Carly Phillips, Robyn Peterman, Cat Johnson, Eliza Gayle, Erin Nicholas, and Roxanne St.Claire.

HAPPY READING!!!
