Thirteen years ago Rebecca Ferguson died, at least to everyone in the Black Hills territory. With a human mother and unable to shift into a wolf, Magnum Tao, the deranged alpha of the Tao Pack would’ve had both her and her father killed for deceiving him. Magnum didn’t allow humans to mate with members of his pack.

Now Magnum is the one who’s dead, and Rebecca can return.
But coming back from the dead, building a new life after her divorce, and opening a library in town aren’t the only obstacles Rebecca faces. Elijah, her father, doesn’t approve of her being in Los Lobos to the point where he forbids her to get involved with the pack, especially the males.

Their relationship has suffered because of her absence and she hopes to bridge the divide, confident that she doesn’t want a romantic entanglement with anyone human or wolf, anyway.

In walks sexy private detective Blaine Walker.
Thirteen years ago Blaine stumbled on his mate at the local swimming hole. The next day, she was dead. Once he learns Rebecca is alive and living in Los Lobos, he decides it’s time to give up his career in Brooklyn and return to the Black Hills. But he knows it won’t be easy to claim her since Elijah’s unnaturally overprotective. The only way Elijah will back off is to challenge him.

A challenge that will end in one of their deaths.
The Tao Pack’s rebuilding itself and needs to guard against any threats outside or in. For Blaine to have any chance to claim Rebecca, Elijah needs to be dealt with and to deal with Elijah, Drew, the alpha of the Tao Pack, has to sanction the challenge according to pack law.

Rebecca can’t deny the old attraction she felt for Blaine is still there and even stronger now that they are grown up. She’s caught between the man fate has brought back to her and her father, whose affection she’s craved her whole life.

But there’s a secret governing Elijah’s erratic behavior that can cost Rebecca everything she’s worked hard to build and everything she thought she could never have with a man or wolf.

Will Rebecca and Blaine beat the odds stacked against them?
Or will the choices they make ultimately lead them down a path both of them don’t want?

Yes I know, I am still catching up on this series, but they keep releasing more and I can’t resist. This is Inge Saunders’ first Black Hills Wolves and it is my pleasure to review this ARC.

As with many daughters, Rebecca was sent away from the Tao pack under Magnum’s rule and most believed her to be dead. Though her father sent her for a different reason, she is a latent wolf and he spread the rumor of her death.

Before she left she had an encounter with another wolf, Blaine. She knew even then there was something different about him, but he too left the Tao pack to save his own life. He was too dominant and so a threat to Magnum.

With Magnum dead and Drew rebuilding, Rebecca has returned to the Black Hills and is contributing by converting a building into a library.

Blaine has discovered that Rebecca is alive and back in the Black Hills. Now he has also returned but needs a promise from Drew in return for his blood oath to the Alpha.

This is a favorite scene.

Blaine realized his mistake. He hadn’t broken eye contact with the alpha. He lowered his head, and the acerbic atmosphere warmed a fraction.

“Why do you want to come back?” Drew’s tone held a bite.

No pleasantries. He should’ve been submissive. Instead, he lifted his head. Neither Drew nor Ryker flinched as he gazed at them. I need to be honest if I’m going to get anywhere with these two.

Ryker seemed one step away from grabbing him by the shirt collar and throwing him out for his insolence.

“I’m here because the Black Hills is home.”

Drew’s eyes narrowed. He had noted his phrasing. “I’m the alpha here, Blaine. You’ll have to swear a blood oath to me.”

A blood oath would prevent Blaine from killing Drew. “Has everyone sworn such a pledge to you?”

“Only those who place the pack above their ambitions.” Drew showed a flash of teeth. Steel reflected there.

His gaze shifted to Ryker who took a step toward him. He couldn’t take on an alpha and an enforcer. Maybe one at a time, but not together.

He understood why Drew wanted the commitment from him. The pack was healthy again. If a wolf came along to upset the order the alpha had built, who knew what could happen. Blaine’s family had left because Magnum’s insanity had infiltrated all aspects of pack life. Drew worked on restoring the pack again.

If Drew wanted him to swear an oath, then Blaine needed him to do something in return. “I’ll pledge my loyalty to you through a blood oath, if you’ll support my choice of mate.”

Drew’s eyebrows went up. Ryker, true to form, didn’t blink an eye.

“Why would you need my support?”

“It’s Rebecca Ferguson.”

Ryker straightened, taking on a solid stance next to Drew. The discussion wasn’t a threat to the alpha in any way.

“Her father won’t allow it.”

“I know.”

“He’s alpha of his household.”

“I know.”

“Are you going to challenge him?”

“If I have to.”

“And you want me to sanction it.”

“Yes.”

Drew sank into his chair. “What does Rebecca have to say? The last time I spoke to her, she didn’t mention you.”

Blaine smiled. He hadn’t earned himself any favors. “She doesn’t know yet.”

“You expect me to support your claim without her being aware of it?”

“You expect me to swear a blood oath to you without assurance whether or not you’ll turn into your father.”

The menacing growl from Ryker vibrated through the room.

“You’re playing a dangerous game, Blaine.”

“All of us have done it for our mates.” He stared from one to the other.

News traveled through the wolf-grapevine. Drew’d had to gain his mate, Betty’s, trust when he returned to Los Lobos after she believed the lies his father told about him. Ryker had overstepped their laws by mating a human, something the old alpha would’ve killed him for. But Drew didn’t seem to have a problem with humans becoming part of the Tao pack.

“Elijah isn’t going to hand over Rebecca to you. He went to extreme measures to keep her safe.” Drew sat forward again. “Even with the new order, he’s still protective of her.”

Blaine didn’t budge. He knew what he wanted. And he rarely lost.

“I will sanction the challenge if Elijah concedes to it.” Drew shook his head. “And I have a feeling he will.”

“I’ll take the blood oath.”

“As simple as that.” Blaine nodded.

“You’ll obey the law of the land and the pack. Be committed to rebuilding the town. To protect. To serve.”

“I understand.”
Inge Saunders. The Wolf’s Choice (Kindle Locations 280-321). Decadent Publishing.

Elijah doesn’t want his daughter to be part of the pack, he doesn’t want her to mate with Blaine. His fear has to do with his experience and his reasons will surprise you.

A feisty tale, with fun, sadness, a challenge and plenty of sexy scenes.

Winter Blog Review

Madam Eve is a specialist, one who manages to find the perfect match for the clients she excepts. This time however runs into a bit of a hitch. The boss her client references wants the date and the fantasy.

While I have often seen cold-feet happen in these tales, this is the first time I’ve seen it cancelled. Although that didn’t quite work out the way Lou thought it would.

A favorite scene occurs after they are almost caught by a colleague.

The heat of his body warmed her back, and he lifted her hair away from the nape of her neck to press a kiss there. “Relax, darling. You did great. I’m so proud of you.”

She didn’t know if he referred to Carl’s interruption or her earlier wanton submission. Wanting to sink into him, to lose herself in the arousal that came roaring back to life from the simple brush of his lips at her nape, she forced herself to stand stiff in his embrace. They’d barely escaped once; she couldn’t afford to allow him to take her over like that again.

“We can’t, Daniel.” Her breathy voice did little to convince either of them she meant the words.

“Don’t turn away from me now, Lou.” He rubbed small circles up the column of her neck, easing the knots of tension gathered there. Slipping higher, he massaged her scalp until she couldn’t hold in a soft sigh of pleasure. Damn, he had good hands. She let her lashes flutter closed, melting a fraction into his touch. Wrapping her hair tight around his fist, he tugged her head back in a sharp motion then fixed his mouth on the exposed side of her throat. The combination of the tingling pain in her scalp and the insistent suck of his lips sent her soaring. She couldn’t walk away from him now. Not tonight. Maybe not ever.

“Not here.” Yes, here, now! It took all her willpower not to drag her skirt back up and just bend over for him.

Daniel nipped her pulse point once more before easing his grip on her hair. “The hotel is still booked. I kept the reservation when you changed your mind about our date.”

What was he talking about? What date? He’d already mentioned something about her canceling their plans.

He made some space between them, giving her a chance to turn around and face him. Without his hands on her, she could think again, and a modicum of rationality returned. Coincidence she could buy, serendipity even, but she couldn’t believe they had been a random match. So, how?

“I still don’t understand how this happened. Madame Eve promised me complete discretion and anonymity.”

Tucking his hands in his pockets, Daniel paced a few feet from her and turned. “Ah. About that.” Gone was the confident, demanding lover. He looked nervous, abashed even. “A copy of your email found its way into the back of one of your reports. I know I shouldn’t have invaded your privacy like that, Lou, but goddamn it, I cannot say I’m sorry I read it. I contacted 1Night Stand and begged Madame Eve to set us up on a date.”

“Begged?” Lou should have been mad, but the idea of him reading her fantasies about him, along with being desperate to play them out with her, filled her with a sense of power.
Merryn Dexter. The Boss of Me (Kindle Locations 362-373). Decadent Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.

One extremely hot night begins and almost stops again at the hotel. But ever resilient, Daniel keeps everything going just at a different pace.

This one has a lot of twists to it. Twists that make me wonder if Madame Eve has made her first mistake ever.

Christmas 2015 Blog Review

What happens when you’re avoiding all things Christmas and barricade yourself in your room at the rehab center? You get your feisty take no prisoners case nurse in your face in her unique style to find out why.

Noël is subtle but determined to find out why Rebel is avoiding the holiday everyone said he loved. She is more frustrated with the fact that he skipped his physio and as a result was having cramping and his stumps were raw and irritated. She has her ways however and this is a favorite scene.

“Hell, you’re going to make me talk about it.” Damn it. He didn’t want to get into this.

No response.

“It’s a little childish to hold me hostage in the car.” And she never behaved like a child.

She leaned her head back against the seat and directed her attention to the landscape beyond the windshield.

“Fuck.” He punched his fist at the roof of her car then flexed his sore hand. “I skipped physio because they plastered Christmas everywhere. Music. Decorations. Hell, one of the therapists was dressed like an elf.”

Merry-fucking-shove-it-down-your-throat season! Resentment flash-fired through his system and he barely managed to restrain the urge to punch the roof of her car again. Once made a point, doing it twice meant losing control.

A Marine didn’t lose control.

“Okay.” Noël shut the car off and climbed out, leaving him to stare at the empty space where she’d been. It took her a minute to extract his wheelchair and then she arrived at the door. “Let’s go.” The temperature outside had dipped again, flushing icy air into the heated interior.

Still gaping at her, Rebel didn’t argue as she helped him swing out and into the chair. One pause to grab his prosthetics and then she locked the car with a flick of a button and headed for the main doors.

“That’s it?” He half-turned to keep an eye on her face.

“It’s cold. We need to go to Ortho and you still have physio.” She didn’t slow her pace. The automatic doors opened with a swish and the cold wind chased them inside. Instead of heading to the residential wing where his room was located, she turned right to follow the indoor walkway leading to the gymnasium and physical therapy wing.

Ortho was along the way.

Clamping his teeth shut on his next words before they could escape, he drummed his fingers on the arms of the chair. Noel always had a comment or, at the very least, a comeback. The silence wore away at him. Ortho took fifteen minutes and the tech promised to refit the sockets and they could swing by to try them on the next day.

The tension winding in his gut tightened the closer they got to the gym. Even the long walkways hadn’t escaped the glitter of Christmas. Evergreen garlands with red velvet bows hung every six feet. Any second now, he’d have to endure rocking around the Christmas tree when all he wanted was to run the holiday over with a reindeer.

Further irritated by the musical direction of his thoughts, he almost missed the main doors to the gym as Noel bypassed them.

“Hey, you missed our stop.”

“No I didn’t.” She went another hundred feet and bumped the big metallic button on the wall with her hip to open another set of doors.

“Um, this is the officers’ wing.” Officers and enlisted did mingle, but senior staff had their own workout area and he was a non-com— or at least he had been.

“Really? And since I just started working here yesterday, I guess I missed the memo.” Snappy, insubordinate, and bordering on rude— just the way he liked her.

Decorated in dark wood tones and lit by high windows, the gym was curiously quiet; no one worked out on the machines and no music piped in over the speakers. Better yet, no pine-scented anything waited to burn his nostrils. The hot ball of knots in his gut loosened.

Kara Childs strolled up to meet them, dressed in her familiar scrubs and wearing a friendly, if cautious smile. Of all his physical therapists, she definitely ranked among his favorites. “Well, well, well— look what the Noël dragged in.”

Heat burned the tops of his ears. Like Noël , Kara had been gone for the holiday weekend but, apparently, she’d heard about his mutiny.

“Great, you got my text.” The welcome in Noël’s voice stroked over his ragged nerves.

“What text?” When had she had time to text?

She squeezed his shoulder. “I sent a text to Kara while the ortho looked at your fitting. Told her you needed to make up for some lost time and would prefer the North Pole-free gym.”

His bad mood did a full one-eighty, and relief radiated down his spine until he nearly sagged in the chair. “Thank you.”
Long, Heather. Have Yourself a Marine Christmas (Always a Marine series Book 20) (Kindle Locations 311-349). Decadent Publishing Company, LLC. Kindle Edition.

Even while giving in to his petulance regarding the holiday Noël is plotting a way for him to find his Christmas spirit again.

The revelation that he feels a lot more for her than just his case nurse, a shopping trip and a little girl’s Christmas wish become the catalyst.

Lots of heat between Noël and Rebel, add in some tears both sad and happy. It all combines to make this one of my favorite Christmas stories!

Winter Blog Review

While happy to be back home, Sarah needs a job. Her brother Jason will be opening a brewery in the spring and has sold all his brews, but she needs to supplement her income.

After being turned down at the convenience store she literally runs into Luc. His greeting includes the word Mate as he leaves her to continue her search. In spite of trying to avoid Luc and Ero she goes to the café in hopes of a job. What she gets is immediate employment and soon after two mates. Here’s a favorite scene, when Ero catches up to her later that night.

When she and Jason escaped Magnum’s deadly rule, they’d lived together for a while, but after she met Ethan, her brother moved out. He didn’t go far, though. They spent time together, and her brother had gotten a job working construction. Then, tragedy struck, and when she needed him most, he’d returned to stay with her and help out. But even now they were home with friends and family nearby, she still depended on him. Maybe it was time to cut the strings and allow him time to find his own happiness. God knew, one of them had to do it, or she feared he’d never find his own mate.

“The snow’s let up. You still going for a run tonight?” Jason came up behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Yeah. I need to clear my head.” The whole day had been filled with so much activity, and working again after ten years had taken its toll.

“Go. Before it starts again and gets too hard to maneuver through. I’ve got the boys.” He squeezed her shoulder. “Don’t forget, you have a busy day tomorrow.”

She turned and wrapped her arms around her brother. “Thank you. I won’t be long.”

“Eh, what are brothers for?” He hugged her tight. “Besides, you owe me one now.”

She laughed. “I wouldn’t expect anything less.” With one last glance at her boys, she strode from their room and headed for the back door. She had an hour to stretch her legs and then she had to be in bed. She didn’t want to let down Ero on her second day.

After placing her clothes on the bench under the coat hooks, she stepped outside. The frigid air kissed her skin, leaving a trail of gooseflesh in its wake. She shivered, calling for the wolf within. Warmth bloomed at the center of her chest and spread out. Like a clinging vine, it covered every inch of her—bled into her muscles and bones—reshaping her until she stood on four legs. She lifted her nose and tasted the breeze. Snow. A thrill of anticipation shot through her.

She took off into the woods surrounding their home. A yip of joy filled the night air as she ran up the trail into the hills. The first time she’d shifted after holding her wolf in check for so long, it hurt. Her body ached for days afterward. Every time since, it’d gotten easier and more of her senses came online. The smells of wild game, frozen ground, and snow-kissed water called to her like a siren’s song. Dead leaves, moss, and excrement hypnotized her, drawing her farther away.

Hunt.

Chase.

Eat.

Yes. It had been years since she’d followed small prey, made the kill. She lowered her nose to the ground and sniffed. There, among the earthy aromas, was the subtle hint of chipmunk. Sarah followed it. The trail wound through the hills, over logs, behind rocks, and up into the trees then back down to the ground. The prey poked its head up from the underbrush and sniffed.

She pounced, snuffing it out with a quick snap of the chipmunk’s neck. Pleasure flowed through her as she ate her meal. Freedom. A snap of a twig had her raising her head. She curled her lip and growled. When the wolf took a step closer, she exposed all of her teeth and swished her tail. Then, she caught the scent. Ero. She whined, lowering herself to the ground. Rolling over, she exposed her belly to him and waited as he sniffed at her neck.

Calling to the shift, Sarah wrapped her arms around him. “Sorry, first time catching a midnight snack since I came home.”

Moments later, Ero joined her. Amusement and desire glowed in his gaze. “I watched you.”

She didn’t know if she should feel creeped out by his announcement or elated. “Oh.”

He moved closer, wrapping an arm around her. The heat from his body combined with hers, chasing away the freezing temps. “You were so involved when I saw you I stayed back, curious as to what you found.”

“Chipmunk.” She glanced up at him. The whoosh of her heart pounding filled her ears with each inhale of his tantalizing scent. Every bit of her wanted the man beside her, but they lacked one person. “Seemed easiest to catch.”

“Well, I caught mine, too.” He kissed her. For the second time in less than twenty-four hours, he’d done the one thing she hadn’t been expecting. He drew her to him, bit by bit. With each glide of his tongue, she melted a little more. “Sweeter than honey.”
TL Reeve. Winter Awakening (Kindle Locations 428-461). Decadent Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.

Things heat up for Sarah, Ero and Luc from this point, but now she’s worried about her brother. He is depressed and her son Charles (an empath) is feeling it, too. Gee sets Jason up with a shy wolf Reva Little Wolf, for the Scavenger Hunt. She had unspeakable things done to her by Magnum and rarely leaves her den. He knew she’d be comfortable with Jason since he wouldn’t be out to man-handle her like may others would.

Matings, reunions, healing and love abounds in this final book of the Winter Solstice in Los Lobos. A wonderful quick read, with more than enough heat to melt your kindle and plenty of hints to future BHW books!

Winter Blog Review

Sayer Blackcrow doesn’t do relationships and what he has with Elle’s friend Kizzy is exactly what he needs. However there is one small problem he hasn’t yet addressed Kizzy is his mate. The problem…he doesn’t trust humans. Humans got his family killed.

When confronted by not only Gee but his Alpha Drew, he is not given a choice. Bring his mate to Los Lobos, a promise he blood oaths to Drew. This is a favorite scene.

Coming to a stop a few feet from Gee, he sat for a minute, trying to figure out why the damn bear would be there to see him at such a late hour.

Might as well get out.

True, or he could wait him out. At some point, he’d get tired and walk away. However, when the bear cocked his brow, Sayer shut off his vehicle then got out. “Gee.”

“Sayer.”

“Why are you here?” A gust of bitterly cold wind fluttered the end of his coat, chilling his overly sensitive skin.

“Where is she?”

Huh? “Who?”

“Don’t play games, boy. You know exactly who I’m talking about.”

He shook his head. “Sorry, I don’t.” He stepped around the imposing form in front of him, only to have the bear stop him in his tracks.

“She is your mate. She should be here, at your side.”

“I’ve got no clue what you’re talking about, old man. I don’t have a mate.” He wrenched his arm free—not that Sayer won their little pissing contest but more like Gee let him go.

“You going to lie to me?” Drew rose from the rocking chair in a darkened corner of the porch.

Shit. Shit. Shit. “No, Alpha. I’d never lie to you.”

“But you would to Gee?” He limped toward him, his brow cocked. “Answer his question. You stink of Elle’s human companion, Kizzy.”

He closed his eyes and scrubbed his face. “She doesn’t belong here.”

“She’s your mate. I would have expected you to come to me when you knew.”

“And tell you what?” He shook his head. “She’s human. She shouldn’t be here.”

“Ah.” Drew gave a short nod. “I understand. What you’re so eloquently saying is, with the human mates in the pack, we’re leaving ourselves vulnerable. And we shouldn’t trust them.”

Well….“No, Alpha. I’m not sure I can be a mate, first of all, and, second, she’s human. I don’t want…you know. I’m not good for this type of relationship or commitment.”

“So you’ll fuck your mate away from the pack and suffer?” He shook his head. “There’s always got to be a few stubborn ones.” He gave Gee a knowing glance.

“Excuse me?” He curled his lip. “Isn’t this my decision?”

“No.” Drew narrowed his eyes. “Your sneaking away from pack lands to be with your mate in the middle of the night will only lead to something bad happening.”

After the murders, the pack’s safety had become paramount. Too many families had been devastated by the acts of a crazed, feral mate no one even knew about. Dammit.

If anything, it proved his point. Humans were nothing but trouble. “It won’t happen again, Alpha. I am sorry.”

“You’re damn right it won’t happen again. You’re bringing her here.”

Wait. “Come again?”

“You will return to Custer, pack her stuff, and bring her to this house.” He pulled a knife out of his pocket.

Whoa. Pump the brakes here. “I’m not sure I should be taking a blood oath yet. I’m not sure she’s my mate.”

His alpha gave him a droll stare. “What did I tell you about lying?”

“Fine.” He took the proffered knife then cut his palm. Why wouldn’t anyone listen to him? He didn’t want this. Yet, his wolf grew more excited by the thought of giving his word to his alpha and bringing his mate home. He was fucked, with a capital F.

Drew accepted it from him and did the same. Then they clasped hands.

“I take full responsibility for Kizzy Rhapsody while she is on pack lands. Any transgression she makes against the pack, I will be held accountable for. I will take whatever punishment is deemed necessary, including death. This is my solemn vow.”

Energy flowed between them, crackling as it pricked at his skin. The fine hairs on his arm stood on end, and his wolf stepped forward as the bond sealed into place.

“So it shall be.” Drew let go of his hand. “When she is settled, I expect to see her, understand.” Not a question but command.

“Yes, Alpha. I’ll bring her by.”

“Good. Sleep well. You’re working a double shift after you bring her home, as punishment for sneaking off pack lands.” Drew smacked him on the shoulder, leaving him there with Gee.

Now all he has to do is bring Kizzy to Los Lobos and tell her everything. The truth about everything including why he keeps pushing her away and never staying the night after sex.

An extremely hot book to warm up a cold winter’s night. One that will have to survive many revelations as well as a scavenger hunt. It’s nice to see so many characters from previous books and I can’t wait for more.

review-fall-cornucopia

Living alone on an isolated ranch, Carrie can’t afford to take chances. When a violent storm causes her to investigate outside she is confronted with a huge black wolf. On instinct alone she shoots it and buries it. But was it really a wolf, could she believe her eyes. Finding a claw on the ground she puts it away, not really wanting it but not wanting to go near what she buried again.

Even though he knows joining up with the Tao pack is best for him and the others in his pack, Roark finds he can’t, not yet anyway. He needs closure, he needs to find whoever killed his best friend and bring them to justice. All he has to go on is the telepathic image Jared sent him before he died. Drew has generously granted him time. With only that image in his mind he has to find where Jared died before that time is up.

Driving through a heavy downpour on his way to help the pack with the move, the vehicle he’s driving hydroplanes into a ditch. With no cell service he treks through the rain to a ranch arriving shivering and drenched.

The night reminded Carrie of that night long ago and she almost let the shivering man walk off instead she invited him in and fed him steak. This is a favorite scene taking place after dinner.

While she headed up the narrow stairs, he followed with heavy, masculine footsteps. Something about him reminded her of… the face, the lightning flash image of the creature who rested in her field. She’d never forget what it looked like or any detail about the awful night. Never stop wondering what in the heck she’d buried. At least once a week, she had a nightmare about it and awoke drenched in sweat. It was nice to have company even if she was probably a fool for allowing it.When he gripped the banister from behind, she noticed the fingernail was missing on his left pinkie.

“What happened to your finger?”

He pulled it away. “Just a little tangle with a buffalo.”

Her mouth opened in surprise, but she closed it again. Obviously, he made it up. The imperfection made him more appealing. They passed the master bedroom first. Except her, Roark was the first person who’d seen it since her father’s death.

She hoped he wouldn’t think she was strange for keeping Daddy’s things the way he’d left them— his leather pipe pouch, cowboy hat, and even a half-empty bottle of aftershave. When so many things had changed, why not keep something the same?

“Your father’s room?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“It’s nice. Why don’t you move in there?”

She fingered the buttons on her shirt. “I like my room fine. I’m used to it.”

When they passed it, he glanced inside. She hadn’t changed it much from her girlhood. Posters of horses, faded now, still adorned the walls. He’d probably think they were silly, too. Why on earth was she sharing the sacred privacy of her home with a stranger? There was something special about him she couldn’t explain. It felt as if she’d known him an entire lifetime.

Did he sense it, too?

“Here’s the guestroom.” She scurried to the bed to beat the dust off the pillows.

He tossed his wallet and keys on the nightstand. Then he laid his warm hand on her shoulder, too lightly to offend. Instead of shaking it off as she had earlier, she rotated under his touch, secretly craving more.

“You don’t have to go to any trouble,” he said. “Everything looks very comfortable.”

“All right. Let me know if you need anything else.”

His fingers drifted over her collarbone, up to her chin. “There is one more thing.”

“What?” Her throat was so tight her voice erupted in a croak.

“A kiss. May I, Carrie?”

Without consulting with her brain first, her head nodded.

When he leaned down, his black hair tumbled forward. It must have slipped out of the rubber band. Without contacting her with anything but his mouth, he brushed his lips against hers. A flame erupted inside her with the power of a gunshot. She knew she’d never be the same.

He straightened, fixing her face with his questioning dark eyes.

“Again,” she whispered.

He gripped her cheeks with strong hands as his mouth closed in on hers, harder. Longer. His square jaw brushed against her face, sweeping her into a cyclone of sensation. She gave herself to him and the kiss, lifting weak and shaky arms to tangle her fingers in his glossy hair.

He smelled heavenly, like spicy oranges cooking in a scorching canyon. His lips parted, unleashing a hot, questing tongue she felt down to her toes. You’re mine, it said.

Yes, yes, yours. All yours.

review-fall-cornucopia

I don’t read much MM let alone MMM, not because I don’t enjoy them but because somehow I feel like a voyeur. That said, this one tugged my heartstrings in many ways.

Max was yet another wolf who left to protect his mate from the wrath of Magnum. From the previous books we know how Magnum treated women and for a gay male? I could just imagine the horrors he would have imposed.

Kole is an omega, and he often punished harshly by Magnum because he kept his telepathic sister Gretchen and any of the younger girls he could out of reach. On top of that he was missing his mate. It’s been five long years and now with Drew as Alpha the pack is healing and so is Kole.

Jasper is human, apparently he was out hiking when he fell onto a ledge where Kole frequently runs. This is a favorite scene.

As he came to the ridge overlooking the bluffs of craggy rocks with wisps of sage and grass, the dark outline of something on the rocks below caught his eye. He scented the air for potential danger, but found only the sweetness of sandalwood and the rusty copper of old blood. The scents clawed at him, demanded he descend to where the darkened figure lay. Kole took the little path to the left and followed it until he stood over the male. Sweat, blood, and debris covered him. His chest rose and fell as though he slept peacefully under the stars. After taking a tentative step forward, Kole nudged the man’s cheek then licked it, trying to revive him.

How long had the man been out there? Why hadn’t anyone else seen him? Or helped him? The scent of sandalwood grew thicker each time he buried his nose against the man’s neck. Whoever he was, the guy belonged to him, and didn’t that beat all. After five years of hermitting himself away, all it took was going for a run. The pull grabbed him by the balls. Like with Max, the need to claim and mark this man rode him hard. Shouldn’t he feel bad? Like he was betraying Max? He licked the man again and whined while snuffling his cheek. The man groaned and turned his head.

“Go away, Hercules,” he mumbled. “I don’t want to get out of bed.”

Who is Hercules? Kole licked him again, and the man burrowed further, admonishing him once more. With a final nuzzle, Kole retreated a step and allowed the shift to come over him. His bones realigned with ease, and within moments, he crouched next to the man. “Hey, can you open your eyes? I’m here to help you,” he said, while taking in the hint of red stubble-covered cheeks marred by blood and dirt. His cropped red hair also had patches of dried blood as well.

He traced the contours of the man’s face while staring at him. The man’s full lips parted, and a soft groan passed them.

His brows furrowed, and the scent of pain masked any hint of his true smell. “Where is Hercules?” The man, caught somewhere between a hallucination and reality, reached out for his dog.

“I’m not sure,” Kole answered, still staring at the man. “Did you bring him with you out here?”

“Out here?” The man blinked several times and peeked through strawberry-blond lashes. Piercing-green eyes greeted him. “What the hell?” The man tried to sit up but hissed in pain. “Son of a bitch.”

“Easy,” Kole murmured. “How long have you been out here?”

He blinked and swallowed hard. Kole kicked himself for not having any provisions available. “I’m not even sure where here is.” He took a deep breath and coughed. “I went for a hike, and that’s about all I remember.”

“Did you fall?”

“I think I got lost. Where did the dog go?” Red asked.

“You mean Hercules?”

“Hercules?” The guy shook his head. “No, Hercules passed away a long time ago. There’s another one though. It licked my cheek.”

“Ah, the wolves. You know there are tons of wolves around here.” Kole hated lying. “One of them led me to you. Upside, we’re a quarter of a mile from my truck. The downside, we have to walk out.”

“A wolf led you to me?” A rough chuckle passed his lips. “That sounds so mystical.”

“You are on Native land here.” Kole smiled. “Things are not always as simple as they seem.”
Reeve, T.L.. Omega’s Heart (Black Hills Wolves Book 21) (Kindle Locations 48-76). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

It doesn’t take long for things to heat up and just get hotter by the second. Then Max returns, with a story he’s not ready to tell and a deep seeded need to claim his mate. He just didn’t know that Kole had found another true mate.

Much has to be decided both on Jasper’s part and Max has to find a way to accept Jasper and come to terms with his own story.

This was a very emotional story and I cried more than once. I really love Drew, his acceptance of his wolves no matter what and allowing humans, thanks to Ryker’s mate, makes this series a must read.

Z is an infiltrator, meaning he tests the security of a pack’s boundaries to assess the ease of intrusion. He also evaluates the scouts and other wolves as to their attentiveness and reports to the Alpha. He gives Drew a better rating than the first time but advises of things to improve on. Other than that Drew has a task for him. Find out about one Ripley Greystone and her pack, they are asking for an alliance but there is too much information lacking for an informed decision. Even Z’s pack has no information on this pack.Ripley’s pack has a successful Rafting Business as such Z books an overnight trip. When he arrives he meets Ripley and realizes she is his true mate. She in turn feels the attraction but he smells human. Everything he brought with him is brand new with no other scent. Her wariness about this newcomer has her following the rafting trip.

Everything changes for her when they discover coyote tracks near the campsite and she finds out that contrary to what her father had taught her coyotes could swim. Her fear becomes real when her omega Will the cook at the campsite doesn’t arrive as expected at the base. This is where everything gets very interesting, this is a favorite scene.

The ten minutes it took to get to the boat seemed closer to ten hours. Neither she nor Zames bothered with life vests. As they came within view of the camp landing, the motorboat Will would need to use to get out of camp sat there as a bad omen, and coolers lay open on the sandy ground nearby. Zames jumped out, yanking the boat in and putting a finger to his lips. The trail to the camp showed no signs of life. That alone told her what she dreaded. He moved ahead of Ripley with the stealth precision of a Navy SEAL. If only he were wolf, he would make a perfect mate, perhaps even an Alpha.

Her skin crawled at the high-pitched shouts and woots of men in the distance. As she and Zames rounded the bend, the coyotes came into view. One of them kicked something, or someone, near the campfire.

“Stop it,” she yelled, unable to stay put as they attacked what had to be Will. Running into the open, she paused. Five of the coyote-clan baddies stared back at her.

“You got here quicker than expected, Miss Ripley,” one the men said, thankfully downwind from her because she could almost see the stink coming off him.

As two of them stepped toward her, Zames pushed her behind him, making sure he stood between her and them. “You take one step closer to my mate, and I will tear each of you limb from limb.”

Mate? Did he say mate?

The largest of the group stepped forward, sniffed the air, and laughed. “What do you plan to do, human? Call 911?”

One second, the handsome human protector stood before her, and a blink of an eye later, a large black wolf replaced him, growling, its teeth bared. It happened so fast Ripley still searched for Zames beside her. Impossible. No wolf shifted that quickly or easily. The world around her spun, and her stomach lurched.

The coyotes had taken a few steps forward then just as quickly turned tail and ran.
Eastwick, Dominique. Infiltrating Her Pack (Black Hills Wolves Book 20) (Kindle Locations 598-617). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

From here it just gets better and better. A truly intense mating, and another talk with Drew. A wonderful addition to the Black Hills Wolves series. I hope we get to see more of these wolves in future books.

review-fall-cornucopia

One of the things I most enjoy about this series is how the different authors portray the pack.

In this one Nika is a new scout who finds a woman hurt and seriously ill in the woods. Again we see Drew in a harsher light, one that we don’t always see but necessary for the safety of the pack. Ryker also shows a side he doesn’t usually since Drew became Alpha. Gee is once again knowledgeable of things as he determines this lovey woman named Kimi is from the past. This is a favorite scene.

She moaned, and Nika’s heart sped. He kept quiet, letting the older pack members sort out what was to be done. His body ached with the need to be near her, but he held himself in check. A wrong move, and he could end up in an even worse situation. His place in the pack was one of deference to the Alpha. Always. No matter what he wanted, his Alpha’s wishes came first. That’s how things worked in the pack.

“I know a healer.” Gee stood.

“Who?” Drew asked. “Not too close?”

“Her name is Wen. She works alone, deep in the Black Hills sanctuary. Nowhere near Los Lobos.”

Drew nodded. “Perfect. Nika, I want you to think about what might have happened if we hadn’t been close by to handle this situation. Not only could our pack’s safety have been an issue, but you could’ve been killed.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Gee will remind you of the procedures, and next time, you’ll follow them.”

Nika nodded.

“We’ll leave now. I can carry this female.” Gee sighed.

“Very good.” Drew stuck his hands in his pockets.

“Kill her.” The deep voice, though quiet, thundered through the clearing. The birds stopped chattering.

Ryker.

Where the fuck had he come from? The Enforcer leaned against a tree, arms crossed and scowling. Nika shuddered, remaining quiet. The last Wolf in the world he wanted to piss off was Ryker.

“No, we can’t kill her.” Gee shook his head. “She’s our little Nika’s mate.”

He blinked. Had he heard Gee correctly? Mate? He swallowed hard. No, no way the she-Wolf was his mate— she wasn’t even a pack member. And he wasn’t old enough. Well, he was, but he wasn’t ready to settle down. She was gorgeous and made his body act independent of his mind.

Mate? No.

Drew harrumphed. “Well then, that complicates things.”

Kimi tried to sit up, collapsing when she raised her head.

“I-is she okay?” Nika asked.

Gee leaned his ear over her face and paused. “She’s breathing.” He sat up. “She fainted. We need to go. Wen’s got a lot of work ahead of her.”
Adrienne, Kerry. The Wolf and the Butterfly (Black Hills Wolves Book 19) (Kindle Locations 166-186). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Wen is a powerful healer/Raven shifter. Wen explains the cure and how they must get it. Back in time, further than even Kimi’s time.

An exciting adventure with surprises at almost every turn as Nika and Kimi find not only the cure but love as well.

Death is not always an ending.

When the dreams first began, Angeni Sweet thought they were just that…dreams. Born with the gift of a medium, she quickly realized the truth—when she last entered the spiritual world, something returned inside her. Waking with bruises and daytime flashes of pain, the dark spirit makes himself known. His face, his name, a place. He leads her, and she has no choice but follow.

Believe in nothing.

Despite living in Los Lobos his entire life, Jaxon Boone has few things he believes in—his favorites being cold beer and hot women. Those beliefs change. When Drew demands he take the beautiful stranger, Ange, to an isolated cabin in the woods for the good of the pack, he learns that the things not seen are the most powerful.

The battle begins.

Fighting against the malevolent spirit of Magnum as he tries to push his way back to world, Ange fears it won’t be enough. Will Jax find the belief in needs in time to save not only the pack but the woman that quickly becomes the center of his world?

review-fall-cornucopia

I don’t know what I expected when I started this book. However Magnum possessing a pack member’s mate was a scary yet interesting turn of events.Ange is the real deal, a true medium, not someone cheating the clients her parents force on her. Now she has decided this was the last week. She would never do this again, she couldn’t take the darkness she was feeling.

Jaxson however, is another story. He’s found his mate but doesn’t believe her. He wants her more than anything but to him she is a liar and a cheat using people for their money.

How she found her way to him was something Jaxson couldn’t understand, neither could Drew or Ryker. Yet she found Los Lobos, and she was bruised and exhausted when she arrived. This scene is a favorite.

“Easy, pup,” Drew growled. “You don’t have to bother telling me she belongs to you. I can smell you on her. The question I need answered is how the fuck did she find you? Did you tell her about this place?”
Jax’s quick survey of Ange had his Wolf pacing to be set free. He pushed the hair from her face to reveal small scratches and scrapes. Drew’s words registered, Jax didn’t attempt to hide his sarcasm. “Yeah, I left her in town and then drew her a map how to get here. Did you look at her feet? Her hands? It’s like she clawed her way here. Who the hell goes for a hike barefoot in these hills?”

“I don’t have answers, I want answers, Jax. A human walks miles through the Black Hills and happens to show up on Main Street doesn’t fly. I won’t let the pack be put in danger. Not by her and not by you.” Drew, always the voice of reason.

“You’re gonna stand there and question my loyalty to the pack? Are you fuckin’ kidding me? Have you forgotten I was one of the few who stayed through Magnum’s reign? I did everything I could to hold our people together behind his back. Of course, you remember, you were the one who found me strung up in the barn like some kind of goddamn sacrifice.” Jax spat the words.

“I do remember. I’ll never be able to repay you for what you did or for what you suffered. Your loyalty was something I would never question, until now. There is no other explanation. Take her home, clean her up, and keep an eye on her. I’ll be by to talk once she’s up and around.” He walked away.

There was nothing else to say, at least not now. He picked Ange up carefully, cradled her against his chest, and headed home. He reminded himself of when he found her in Sturgis. She was a fake, a damn con artist. But how did she find her way here? The next to last thing he wanted to do was take her to his cabin. The last thing he wanted to do was turn her over to one of the pack to take care of her.

Mine, his wolf repeated in his mind.
Cassidy, Cam. A Wolf Awakens (Black Hills Wolves Book 18) (Kindle Locations 526-539). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

We see a side of Drew and Ryker that we haven’t before. A harsh one that is needed to protect the pack. I held my breath and cried quite a bit in this one. A lot of tension for everyone involved.

Cam Cassidy  Cam Cassidy

Cam Cassidy is an erotic romance author, her current with with a paranormal sizzle. She spent her life growing up in a small Ohio farming community. The lack of neighbors and companionship of mostly cows and horses in her youth left her plenty of time for her passion of reading to flourish.

As an adult, Cam is married and the mother of three ornery children who keep her on her toes. The cup of coffee in her hand is a trademark. She works full time in the medical field. In her spare time, she spends every minute reading and writing. Watching her children ride horses, dirt bikes with a notebook in hand to never miss jotting down that next all important story idea.

All of the “hard work” reading and writing sitting beside the fire drinking a glass of wine. Or was it between loads of laundry? Her dream of becoming a published author have come true.
