KARSYN STYLES… aka Syn is tired of waiting on the man she knows is her mate to claim her. She’s going to take matters into her own hands, even if that means teaching the stubborn wolf she’s more than just the alpha’s baby sister.

BODHI… has fought the feelings he has for the little wolf who’s supposed to be like a sister to him. Only the feelings she’s stirred in his body and heart are far from brotherly. He’s done everything in his power to keep her at a distance, even going against everything he and his wolf want, but nothing can tame either man or beast except the one female meant to be theirs.

Just when he is ready to claim his mate, Bodhi’s world is rocked as his past comes back with a vengeance. He wasn’t born a wolf, but turned when his family was slaughtered. He’d thought he was all alone in the human world, grateful for his wolven family, until one fateful encounter.

Syn sees the man she loves pulling away. Her heart can’t take another rejection, or seeing him turn to another female for the comfort only she should be giving him. She’ll do anything to show him they’re meant to be together.

Neither realize the danger lurking in the shadows as Bodhi’s past is more sinister than either realize. Can the Iron Wolves survive what’s coming next, or will what destroyed Bodhi’s past come back to do the same to their future?

In the last couple of books we’ve seen Bodhi on his phone, texting or leaving to take a call. Syn is done, with it now. She knows Bodhi’s her mate, but he hasn’t made a move so she’s going to put some distance between them for a while.

Bodhi’s problem isn’t as simple, he delivered a custom car to LA and found his sister and her child. Her husband, Roberto, is wealthy and abusive. The time has come to get her and the child away, somewhere they will be safe.

The last thing he expects is for Syn to follow him. Now that wasn’t her original plan but she wanted answers before she put the distance between them.

Things get a bit hairy at the house, and Syn ends up needing help, but once they are all away, she decides to go with her initial plan only to be taken by Roberto again.

This is a favorite scene.

The door burst open, the loud bang had her nearly jumping out of her skin. “We’ve got movement on the security feed.” She didn’t recognize the voice of the man talking, and worried Kellen and the others were walking into a trap.

“Mr. Dominguez doesn’t want to be disturbed unless we have something good to tell him. Take two men with you and see what it is. Shoot to kill, not injure.”

Her throat closed up. She couldn’t allow them to kill her family. “Kellen, can you hear me?”

“Karsyn, if you ever drop off the radar again, I swear to all I’ll beat your ass.” Her brother’s voice came across more worried than angry.

“I promise to never do it again. But, there are men coming out of where I’m being held. Are you near?”

“Absofuckinglutely, I’m near,” he growled.

“They have guns and are planning to shoot to kill.”

“Oh, let em bring it. I plan to gut them, and shove their weapons so far up their asses, they’re gonna wish they’d stayed home with their mamas.” His deep growl had her smiling.

Bodhi grunted. “Great imagery, Alpha. I’m now forever gonna have visions of you doing bad bad things with guns.”

Hearing Bodhi’s voice so clear in her mind, made her wish for the mate bond, but she pushed it aside.

“I’m serious. They have guns…with bullets. You guys are bad and all, but bullets hurt.” She touched the spot just below her ribs where one had skimmed her side.

“Oh, don’t think I’ve forgotten about that, chérie. You and I will be having a discussion about that when I get you home safely,” Bodhi said, his tone suggesting he had a lot to say and do.

“Children, big bro here. Don’t need to hear this shit in my head, thank you very fucking much,” Kellen informed them.

“Heads up wolfies, we got company.”

“Oh my gawd, you brought Jennaveve? Are you fucking insane? Her father-in-law-to-be will kill us all. Did you see the way he decimated all those things before? Fuck, get out of here Jenna.” Goddess, she was going to get them all killed.

Jenna snorted through their link. “Really, Karsyn, one would think, that one,” Jenna coughed and it sounded like she said Syn. “That one would be grateful that one such as I, was coming to rescue them. I certainly would be if roles were reversed. I didn’t even balk when they refused to let me ride them like a pony, not in a sexual way mind you. Eww.”

“Stop it. You’re going to make me laugh, and I’m pretending to be unconscious. I’m sorry for my lack of respect. Is that better?” She tried to keep the laughter out of her voice, but even though they were speaking in their minds, it came across as if they were talking face-to-face.

“Can’t talk now, must kill bad guy. Byeee.” Jenna’s words were cut off at the same time Syn heard Bodhi’s wolf growl.

She tried reaching him, but since they weren’t connected except through Kellen, if he cut her off, then she only saw what he allowed. The stark reminder was a knife to her already wounded heart.

Howls could be heard, but she didn’t think it was because they were close, but because someone was listening to video footage. Running feet pounded through the door.

“Shit, we are being attacked by a pack of wild wolves. Get the girl and let’s go. Where’s the boss?”

Syn wasn’t going to let them use her as a pawn. Her wolf had finally woken from the last round of drugs they’d given her. She smelled three different males in the room with her, and calculated her chances of winning in a fight as a human. Yes, she had enhanced strength, but they had guns. In her fur, she had claws, and teeth that could rip them to shreds. Before she could change her mind, she allowed the change to come over her, knowing she only had a precious few seconds of surprise on her side.

Yells of surprise came from all three men, and then she didn’t care what they did or said. Her mind shut down as she leapt at the only one who seemed to have a gun. Her wolf recognized him as one of the men who’d happily injected them with drugs. She didn’t go for his arm, instead they both tore out his throat. As they rolled in a tangle of human arms and wolf paws, she felt a kick to her side, making her release her prey.

Turning, she growled at the two men who stared back at her. Horror written on their faces. Syn could only imagine what they must be thinking, having seen her turn from a human to a wolf. Now, she stood with their friend’s blood dripping from her jaws, and she let out another growl. This one lower, and although she would cringe later, she allowed her wolven tongue to come out and lick at her jaws.

Both men made the sign of the cross, and then one ran for the door as the other pissed himself, the scent damn offensive to her nose. Gah, she so didn’t want to attack the asshat. All she wanted was to leave.

“We are coming for you, don’t you dare do anything stupid,” Bodhi warned.

“I just killed a man, I don’t think I could do much else that would constitute as stupid.” She shuddered at the memory.

Kellen’s growl sounded closer than just in her ear. “Good girl. You do what you need to stay alive. Kill every fucker that comes near you, just stay alive. Understand?”

The man who’d ran out came back in, his back to her as he muttered something in Spanish she didn’t understand. Damn why hadn’t she taken another class or three in school on the language. A big black wolf with flashing green eyes followed by a little woman screaming nonsense, had the man falling over his feet. If Syn was in human form she’d have covered her mouth with her hands to stop from laughing, as it was, she chuffed in her wolven form. Jenna was freaking the man out.

“Ay yay yayay,” Jenna yelled, waving her hands in a circular motion. A glow surrounded her, making it look as though she was lit up like a flame.

Bodhi came to stand in front of Syn, his large wolven body three times as big as hers. He faced the other man, growling. A knife she hadn’t seen clattered to the floor, and damn, the scent of urine hit her again.

“Shit, they can’t hold their bladders at all.” She butted her head into Bodhi’s side when he didn’t seem inclined to move.

Jenna’s war cry continued, making Syn wonder if the woman was a little crazy for real.

A boom shook the ground, and then Jenna was silent. Syn shot around Bodhi to see she was holding the man by the throat a couple feet off the floor. “Stay back, Syn. You, too, Bodhi. This one is depraved along with his boss. They all are, but this one likes little girls.”

Jenna’s eyes became a light silver.

“Someone has unleashed the Kraken,” Kellen strolled in, a smirk on his face.

Bodhi’s body shimmered and then he too was back in human form. Dressed. How the hell did they all get the super power, yet she had shredded jeans around her damn legs, and her favorite leather jacket was in bits on the couch?

“Did you kill all the baddies?” Jenna asked, dropping the lifeless man to the ground.

Kellen looked up to the ceiling. “How is it that you can snuff out the baddies, yet you can’t call them fuckers?”

The Fey Queen shrugged. “I can curse you under the table, I just choose to save my words for the right time.”

Syn stayed in her wolven form, her mouth still had the nasty taste of copper in it. Jenna knelt in front of her. “You’re a good girl, Karsyn Styles.” A wave of her hand, and then a feeling of lightness washed over her.

Seconds later, she shifted, finding herself fully clothed in a pair of jeans and tank with her leather jacket in one piece. “Holy, fuck. How’d you do that?”

Jenna stumbled. “Wow, remind me not to make a wolf shift unless I have to.”

Kellen steadied the Fey. “Woman, why didn’t you just tell her to shift?”

“She was freaking out cause she killed asshat over there. I needed to force her out of her misery and cleanse her pallet. By the way, no way in hell am I ever eating Bambi either. Ewww,” Jenna gagged.

Raina wanted what every female wanted…As the only daughter of the vampire king, and a wolf shifter she was given everything she could ask for. Sheltered her entire life. Until her world was turned upside down as she was kidnapped to become Satan’s consort.

Creed was equal parts good and bad, or so he said…Being the son of Satan and an angel, he lived a life filled with death and battle. Each he excelled at, until he saw something he’d die for. Raina Cordell, his Chosen.

What would you do to save those you love? For Creed, he’d give up his eternal soul to the very being who’d relish in his blood. Raina had searched for hundreds of years for what her parents had, thinking never to find the one being who would complete her. Just as she finds him, she has a choice. Her life, or his. Will they survive the coming battle, or will the battle be more than either are willing to sacrifice?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogo

As I continue my re-read I have realized just why I love these books. Not only are the characters personalities complex, the world is also.

The couples we have at the moment are Lyric and Rowan, Breezy and Xan, Laikyn and Kellen and although they aren’t prominent in this series, LeeLee and Slater. Just as important are some of the other characters we’ve met especially Jennaveve ‘Jenna’ the Fae Queen and Damien and Lucas the vampire/wolves.

In this book we meet not only Damien and Lucas’ sister Raina but also Creed. Now Creed’s a bit different in that he is the son of Satan and an angel. That relationship is how he finds Raina.

Raina wakes to a disturbance she can’t identify and finds she can’t reach out to her family. She wakes up in a place that is almost a scary as her guard. Creed walks in and demands her guard leave, but there’s a battle instead. Raina sneaks out of the door and connects to her father, but he’s not so certain it’s her. When he does Raina can’t say anymore, she’s lost too much blood. Creed needs to get her out of Hell and quickly. At the portal he asks his mother for help and ends up in Jenna’s realm.

There are many revelations made at this point, but they know Raina’s parents need to know she’s safe and protected.

This is just part of that conversation and a favorite scene.

“My father would like to speak with you again.” Raina held the phone out.

Creed rose with the grace of the predator he was. “This is Creed. How may I be of service to you?”

Damikan snorted. “So formal. You can start by explaining how you came to be in Hell.” Even though he’d appeared the debonair man all those centuries ago, he still hadn’t shown his true self. A fact he should have realized meant Luna wasn’t meant for him.

“That is easy. It is where I grew up, and the home of my…shall we say, father, for lack of better terms. Although, I will say there is no love between the two of us.”

Raina raised her head to the ceiling. Creed was being purposefully obtuse. To him Damikan was not his king.

Creed waited for the inevitable explosion, but he was not one to cower to anyone, least of all his Chosen’s father. Start as you mean to go on has always been his motto, and the last way he meant to go on was licking the boots of a man who was probably younger than he. Oh, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t respect the man as the father of his woman, but he wouldn’t allow the man to talk down to him. Hell, his own father ruled the entire underworld with an iron-spiked fist, and Creed didn’t shake in fear when the bastard brought the hammer down on him. Repeatedly. Even if that meant he would have to regrow limbs lost. Not even if it took him years to heal. Nope, he was a stubborn bastard that way, in more ways than one.

“I don’t think I like your tone, boy,” Damikan said in a menacing tone.

He made sure the other being could see the image he projected. “I got your boy, boy,” Creed said without heat.

Raina gasped. “Creed that is my father. You can’t talk to him that way.” She jumped up, reaching for the phone he easily held out of her reach.

“He started it.” On her next jump, Creed grabbed her around the waist and held her against him.

“And what are you, a two year old?” She tried for the phone again.

He looked to Jenna for help, but the woman seemed more amused at the display than anything. “I do not remember being two. Two hundred, maybe. Two thousand, most assuredly.”

The sound of the couple on the other end of the phone gasping had him stilling.

“Exactly how old are you?” Damikan asked in a measured voice.

“Do you really want to know? Be very sure before you answer, for once you have this knowledge, you can never…well actually, I can take it away. Although it is painful I’m told.” Creed tossed the phone to Jenna as Raina’s squirming was demanding more of his attention. “Deal with that. I don’t need the phone to talk to them.”

Jenna caught the phone in her hand and pressed a button. “Hello again.”

“Is the man you are standing near able to hear us?” Damikan asked.

“Tell him the answer is yes.” Creed walked over to a chair and settled down with Raina in his lap. She looked tired.

“Let me have that phone back, please,” Raina pleaded.

“Raina, honey, are you safe?” Luna’s voice came over the speaker loud and clear, holding a note of fear Creed had never heard his own mother display.

“Luna, I can assure you, your daughter has never been safer than she is right this instant. Whatever took her was able to do so under you and your family’s nose. I’m not accusing, I’m just stating fact. Until the threat is stabilized or eliminated, the best place for her is with Creed.”

“What is this Creed to her?” Damikan asked the million dollar question.

“She is his Chosen, I believe that is the term he uses. You would call it in your world a Hearts Love. No matter the name, she is his other half that much is true. Fate has decided for them, and for better or worse, we will work together to keep her safe.”

“Daddy, my wolf recognized him from the very beginning.” She looked at him.

“I want my baby girl home. Why don’t you bring her here where we can protect her with my Elite soldiers?” The demanding King was back.

Creed shook his head, a chuckle escaped. “Sir, I believe we are where my father can’t reach us, other than Heaven, there are not many places he doesn’t have access. I can block all our paths from my father, but if his minions come to you, they will be able to extract information from anyone in your household. And before you say you are too strong, remember you are dealing with the ruler of the Underworld. If you’d been here, he could get that info, and possibly send someone here.”

He let his words sink in and waited. Raina’s eyes widened. When she didn’t immediately jump up and demand he let her go, his heart resumed its usual beat.

“Jenna, explain to him what my Elite and I are capable of. Yes, she may have been taken from my home, but that was a mistake that will never be repeated. I foolishly thought nobody would dare trespass. Believe me, I’ve corrected that oversite,” he growled, every bit as fiercely as any wolf.

“Be that as it may, I won’t allow her safety to be tested. You don’t know him like I do. He won’t stop, unless I stop him.” Creed wrapped his arms around Raina. The thought of her back in the waiting room outside his father’s court sent a cold chill down his spine. Never!

“Mom, tell your husband that he needs to accept his baby girl is grown.” Raina rolled her eyes. “Listen, I’m tired and really want to rest. I’ll call you both in twenty-four hours. Every twenty-four hours, okay?” She looked to him for confirmation.

He nodded, and watched as Jenna gave her assent as well. At least they were on the same page.

“If you don’t call me every twenty-four hours on the dot, I will track you down, and there will be Hell on Earth to pay. Do you hear me Creed and Jenna of the Fey?” Damikan threatened.

Creed smiled, while Jenna didn’t look the least bit fazed.

“And, Jenna. I do believe there are two very anxious young men looking for you. The last time I saw you we had taken you back to my home.” Censure clear in the words had Jenna turning away from them.

“I apologize for disappearing on you and your wife, but I needed my realm to heal properly.”

“Don’t let him upset you, dear. However, have you tried reaching out to Damien or Lucas?” Luna asked.

Jenna and Talia stood. “I need to rest. I am not at a hundred percent still.” With a regal nod, she folded her hands.

“Got it, old man. Now, off to bed with you folks.” Creed waited till Raina said her goodbyes, then disconnected the call, making sure there was no link back to them.

“Now what.” Raina asked.

Jenna took a deep breath. “Now, we rest.”

Creed doesn’t know why his father has set his sights on Raina, but he isn’t letting him win.

Raina is once again taken, this time through her dreams. Here she meets Kyrene, a halfling, sibling to Creed. This is both good and bad.

Plenty of hair-raising moments, some more interesting folks, and the sizzling mating of Creed and Raina.

Winter Blog Review

This book opens with Slater begging LeeLee to shift. He doesn’t realize until that moment that she can’t. He does know that this beautiful wolf is his mate. LeeLee however decides she needs to run from him and ends up in a terrifying situation and severely wounded.

Slater is contemplating what to do, he’s now in human form and freezing, contacted Keanu a former member of his smoke-jumping team is out of the question since his wife and LeeLee’s friend Cammie is in the hospital with their new baby. He needs to build a fire and while he’s doing that calls on his Alpha Niall Malik for help. He’s going to see if Jenna can help.

Slater’s first meeting with Jenna isn’t quite the same as hers with Kellen as the situation is much different. However, Jenna takes them to her home, which is the Fey Realm. It’s there we will learn much of LeeLee’s past as Jenna and others heal her not only physically but also her shift.

This is a favorite scene.

He turned to look back where he’d left LeeLee sleeping only to see they’d moved her to the center of the now cleared room. Damn, magic sure was a handy thing.

“As I mentioned before, this is going to be a powerful event that is going to take the power of all four of us, plus you. You will ground her, while we will do as you like to refer to as, our magic shit.” Her smile flashed and he swore whatever man was lucky enough to claim her would be blessed indeed.

“You tell me what to do and I’ll do it. Even if you say to jump on one leg and act like a monkey.” They didn’t need to know he wasn’t sure he had the strength to do that, but he’d give it his best.

“Alright, children, let’s do this.” Jenna led him to the group, stopping near LeeLee’s head.

Goddess, they were getting ready to wake the sleeping wolf, or woman. What if she hated him, or didn’t remember him? Or heaven forbid, came out a young girl like he’d seen in the dreamscape.

“Don’t borrow trouble, Danielson.”

He whipped his head around. “Did you just quote a line from Karate Kid?”

“Wax on, wax off. I’m pretty sure Mr. Miyagi was a genius and could fix anything. Now, let’s get busy.”

Slater wasn’t sure if she was serious, but he knew she had awesome powers. He didn’t want to question her mental state. Heck, she was said to be older than dirt, so more than likely forgot more than he’d ever learn.

“I want you to place your hands over her heart. That is where you want to be. Try not to fondle her breasts.” She winked, making the other ladies groan. “Too much, too soon?” she asked.

Payton nodded. “I think so, Jennaveve.”

“Well, y’all did go and almost get them killed in the dreamscape, therefore, I am allowed bad jokes. A few of them, by the way.” Jenna settled on her knees by LeeLee’s head, then indicated each lady to take a place.

Slater looked around and wondered how he was supposed to fit in between them.

“Goodness, do I need to draw you a picture? Straddle her body, and place both palms over her heart like so. If all goes as planned, a woman will be in the place of the wolf shortly.”

He felt weird straddling the form of a wolf, but figured the Fey women knew what they were doing. Her fur was soft beneath his fingers, the steady beat of her heart reassuring as he placed first his right hand, then his left, one on top the other over her heart. His own pulse pounded out a fast rhythm. If this didn’t work, he wasn’t sure what he’d do.

Closing his eyes, he felt the first jolt of energy. The shock enclosed him in a wave of warmth, then a tide of energy unlike any he’d experienced in his entire life. The body beneath him twitched, a link clicked open, and memories flooded him of a childhood unlike his own. One filled with loneliness and sadness. Beatings behind closed doors she had to hide, unable to make a sound out of fear her parents would send her away. More warmth and love flooded him, and he knew the Fey were trying to coax LeeLee into coming out of the cocoon she’d built around herself. He added his own love and comfort to the mix, wanting her to know she’d never be hurt while he had breath in his body.

He heard growls and screams, and a terrified LeeLee racing to save the worthless parents who’d allowed an old woman to beat their child. Knowing what the noises meant, he wanted to call the child back, but knew he had to watch it play out, he watched, and waited. The scene she stumbled into was worse than he’d been prepared for. No child should ever have to face a massacre, let alone be covered in the blood of your pack. He watched in horror as LeeLee’s mother took her own life, rather than stay and become the chew toy of the pack who decimated theirs. LeeLee’s scream brought his head around, along with the ravenous wolves. They took off after the small girl, even as she ran as fast as her tiny legs would carry her. Slater kept his hands on her chest, her heart beating faster than humanly possible, making him fear she’d have a heart attack. The old woman reached out from the shadows, her smile chilling and evil. She tried to grab LeeLee, but fear lent her speed, and then he saw the bloodied gown tearing, the small girl becoming a small wolf. He wanted to cheer, at the miracle. Howls and growls followed. Little LeeLee didn’t stop running, Slater watched as she ran until she reached the highway. The sound of a diesel had him gasping, but he didn’t remove his hands, knowing instinctively he was keeping her tethered to reality. The large vehicle struck the tiny wolf, slowing, then came to a stop.

Her next memory was of waking in a clinic in wolf form, covered in blood with an IV in her. She shook off the drugs, and escaped, running again until she ran into Rasmund. There her memories became softer, her heartrate eased, her breathing went back to normal.

Slater opened his eyes as the fur beneath his fingers became soft skin. It took him several blinks of his eyes before he was able to reconcile the creature beneath him as his LeeLee. The horrors she’d faced the first six years of her life would make anyone insane, and he wasn’t sure if she would be or not. The wolf LeeLee seemed to be somewhat coherent, listening to commands, and knowing her place in Cammie’s home. How would the human react? Hell, could she speak? It took him a moment to realize he still had his hands firmly on her chest. He looked up at the Fey. Their eyes were still closed, the

energy surrounding him and LeeLee was still glowing a myriad of colors of golds, purples, and maroons. The jewel tones were beautiful, yet he wondered when or if it was okay to speak. Afraid he’d break some spell, he stayed silent, then glanced back down at LeeLee. Her white-blonde hair had replaced the bright red he’d expected. Upon further inspection, inspection, he noticed she had silver shot throughout the white tresses.

“It is done. Her wolf is sleeping, now we will wake the human,” Jenna said without opening her eyes. A slight nod of his head, like she could see him, was his answer. He’d ask the question burning in his gut after she woke. Why was she no longer red haired? What else had changed?

LeeLee jerked beneath him, gasping for air, then her eyes opened. The blue was so light they were almost clear. She raised her right arm, opened her mouth then shut it.

He grabbed her palm before it could fall with his own and brought it to his chest. “Hi,” he said the first thing that came to him.

Tears swam in the eyes that captivated him. “I’m LeeLee.” Her words were halted.

He wanted to cry with her but nodded. “Welcome back.”

“You saved me,” she said like she couldn’t believe he would.

Slater lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the palm. “I’ll always save you.”

Now that LeeLee is able to shift again, there is a need to figure out who she is. This unfortunately comes with danger, more than a couple of twists and of course her seriously hot mating with Slater.

Iron Wolves Bonus Novella

In this novella we find that Xan and Breezy have yet to have a child, this is weighing heavily on Breezy. As she’s heading to the clubhouse clinic to help Laikyn, a strange thing happens. One that feels almost like a vision.

At the clubhouse we first meet Kellen and Laikyn’s daughters Enzley and Everleigh then a bit later their sons Jaggar and Jaxon, these four are quadruplets. Laikyn is coming to examine Lyric as she’s close to delivery and a bit worried. There is also a surprise baby shower happening since are having a boy. Rowan and Lyric already have a girl Harlow and can use some boyish things.

Xan also has the same sort of experience that Breezy had and talks to Kellen and Jenna about it. We also find out about a pregnancy. Nope I’m not gonna say who.

You know those best laid plans, well a baby doesn’t seem to want to wait.

This is a favorite scene.

Lyric breathed through what she was pretty sure was a contraction. Dang it, she did not want to go into labor during her surprise baby shower. Although she’d told her friends she didn’t want one since she’d had one with Harlow and thought it was crazy to have another so close, they’d obviously chosen not to listen to her. Or as Syn had announced ‘You’re having a little boy, and my godson isn’t going to be wearing hand-me-down pink shit or playing with pink toys. Nope, he’s going to get manly, or boyish, new shit.’ And that was that. No arguing from Lyric would sway her. Even when she’d reassured her best friend that Rowan and she would make sure their son had boy stuff.

“Hey, you don’t look too good. You feeling alright?” Syn asked.

She turned, a smile firmly in place. “I’m fine, just having a pep talk with LeeLee and hoping this little guy doesn’t bruise my kidney with all his kicking.” Which was the truth, somewhat.

“So, you going to tell us what his name is going to be, or you going to be like those Hollywood types and wait until he’s like a few days old and then decide? You realize that can scar a kid, right?” Syn had both hands on her hips, glaring as if Lyric was committing a felony.

“We have his name picked out, but we aren’t telling a soul until he’s here.” She laughed at the low growl coming from her best friend. “Karson Styles, you stop that, right this instant.”

“I hate you, you know that, right? How am I supposed to get anything personalized? Why, I just saw the cutest little blanket on a kid inside TarJay that had its name on it. The mama was walking around, strutting her shit like she was the most awesome mama ever because she had a blankie with her kid’s name on. I could do that for chunk there if you told me his name.” She folded her arms over her chest, tapping her foot.

Lyric laughed. “Okay, first off, it’s Target, not TarJay’. Just because you make it sound fancy doesn’t make it so. Second, I’m not going to tell you my kids name just so you can have it on a blanket, although that is cool as shit. Third, I bet that mama was awesome and her kid was cute as shit, too.” All babies were cute in her estimation, but Syn didn’t agree.

“Whatever. It is so TarJay, and they have really adorable kids’ clothes.” Syn spun on her heels, yelling over her shoulder. “You suck. I’m not tellin you my kid’s name, but I’ll tell everyone else.”

She sucked in a breath, this one of shock. Syn almost sounded truthful. “Well, when you have multiples like your brother, you’ll be begging me for help,” Lyric yelled at Syn’s back.

Her friends’ steps slowed, then came to a hard stop. “That wasn’t nice, Syblic,” Syn said with a glare over her shoulder.

While she tried really hard not to laugh, she breathed through another pain. Damn, she really didn’t want to ruin her shower by going into labor. A quick look around the empty bar, save for pack members, she realized everyone she cared about had shown up. Well, the males were in the back or in Kellen’s office. But crowded into the bar were all the females who’d come bearing gifts for her and their nugget, or chunk as she and Rowan were calling him. Seven minutes apart and lasting a little over two minutes. Dang it, why were all the men in her life so darn stubborn? “Can’t you hold out for one more week and be a Christmas baby like we planned?” she whispered, her hand rubbing the hard swell.

“Hey, is he giving you a hard time?” Laikyn asked, her doctor face on.

“Can I tell you something and it be patient doc confidential?” Lyric glanced around them.

Laikyn nodded. “Well, unless it’s something that Kellen needed to know for the good of the pack.”

She thought about it for a minute. Her issue wouldn’t endanger the pack. “I’m in labor.”

“You’re in labor?” Laikyn screeched.

The entire bar quieted, turning to stare their way.

“Dang it, Lake, I said confidential, not scream like a freaking banshee,” Lyric whined.

With a groan, Laikyn put her arm around Lyric, steering her back toward the overstuffed chair they’d brought in for her. “Alright, since the secrets out, give me the deets.”

Lyric rolled her eyes, feeling Rowan’s worry pressing on her, knowing someone had shouted through the pack link to him. When she finished giving Laikyn the run down, Rowan burst through the door at a run, a frown on his face. “Lyric, what the hell? Why didn’t you tell me?”

She held her hand out to him, watching her big bad alpha ex-SEAL drop to his knees, his lips going straight to her stomach first. “I didn’t want to worry you, just yet. We’ve got hours, if not days still. Remember Harlow, she had me in active labor for two days before she made her appearance.” Goddess, she hoped this baby didn’t do the same thing. Where Harlow was a tiny bundle of joy, she knew this one was going to be a big rolling bundle of action.
Boon, Elle. Iron Wolves MC Books 1-4 (Kindle Locations 9599-9638). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

A few scary moments, and a very large baby boy is born to Lyric and Rowan.

I got a kick out of the pool and the winner. Xan and Breezy discuss what they saw and are very eager to get on with ‘practicing’.

Oh, I almost forgot, there was a drawing for who would play Santa and Kellen lost or won, however you want to look at that.

Lots of laughter, some tears and plenty of sizzle.

I’ll be starting book five shortly.

Winter Blog Review

Kellen overhears a conversation about a threesome that has his blood boiling. He doesn’t realize that Laikyn didn’t participate and didn’t want to either.

Laikyn aka Lake has been visiting for the first time in a couple of years. She’s accepted a position at Mercy General to be close to family and friends. First, she has to go back to Kansas City to finish up the details and get her stuff. Karsyn aka Syn, Kellen’s sister has offered to go with her, so she doesn’t have to rent a truck and trailer.

Once they arrive, Laikyn notices something very off. She smells the cologne her partners wear in the hallway and in her apartment. Places neither of them should have been. The call to the clubhouse is not a pleasant one, since no one knew they were leaving.

Kellen and Bodhi head to the hotel to get the girls after dropping Rowan and Lyric at the apartment. While the interaction between Lake and Kellen is interesting and hot, it’s at the apartment that things heat up in a different way.

Damien and Lucas are Laikyn’s partners in the medical practice she’s leaving, they are vampire/wolf hybrids and looking for their Hearts Love. They truly thought Lake was their one. Now she makes it clear to them she is not theirs but Kellen’s.

They were there initially because of a strange vampire in their territory who apparently was living on the same floor as Lake. This is a problem for the Iron Wolves as they didn’t know about Vampires at all. Not that it’s a stretch being as they exist.

They get Lake packed up and leave only to encounter something weird as they get close to Kellen’s home.

This is a favorite scene.

Kellen wasn’t one to freak out normally but hearing a man’s voice come out of his mate, nearly did it for him. “Alright, do your thing and make it quick.” He didn’t care that he sounded ungrateful. The fact Laikyn was not present in the front of her mind was not something he or his wolf liked.

“This is definitely the work of a vamp, and not a young one either. I can’t sense his presence, which means he is doing this from afar. Damn! Let me focus. You need to stop the vehicle, though. There is a drop-off around the corner, and I’m pretty sure you’re not seeing it on the GPS thing properly, but I can see it.”

Damien shoved the image into Kellen’s mind. The invasion another thing Kellen wasn’t happy with. He pulled to a stop, immediately noticing the swirling mass of smoke surround them. “Do your magic quick.”

Laikyn’s hands came up, moving in a fast pattern. Kellen looked back to the road, then at her hands.

Minutes ticked by as silence reigned over them. His wolf rose to the front of his mind, needing to protect their mate. He wanted to reach out on their path and connect with her, wishing he’d claimed her properly, but promised himself they’d correct that oversight when this was over.

The grey smoke-like fog began to recede. Almost looking like tendrils of ropes, or ghostly fingers reaching for them, until finally the road was clearly visible. Laikyn’s hands dropped, but the eyes staring out were the black orbs of Damien.

“It is done. Luke and I will search for him in Kansas City, but I fear he is on the hunt for you, and Laikyn. Somehow, he has caught her scent the same as my brother and I did. The big difference is, we have honor. This being doesn’t. He was testing you both. I can arm you, so you will be able to sense when he is near, but you will need to trust me.” Damien turned to stare at Kellen through Laikyn.

Knowing the immediate threat was gone, he reached for his mate in the back of her mind, wanted to reassure them both they were indeed fine. She appeared calm, but he sensed she wasn’t at all.

Kellen nodded. “What do you need to do?” He wasn’t going to agree to anything without being informed.

An image was thrust into his mind. Kellen allowed the invasion. The powerful hybrid filled him with more knowledge, which he was aware Laikyn was getting as well. Being able to sense an enemy was a must when they were used to being the predator. He created a link with Damien, the thin tie back to the other being, one only he would know about, until the time came that he’d need it. Kellen had a feeling they would need it in the coming battle.

“Magic such as we use is passed from generation to generation. My family is old, and from what I just undid, I can attest that we are far older than he. However, that doesn’t make him less dangerous. Actually, it makes him unstable. For a vampire to be so focused on a female to such an extent is very dangerous. Had she been marked, I’m sure he’d have left her alone. But that is no longer something he cares about. Even if you were to mark her as yours, he will think she was open game. Meaning, he will take what he felt was his first.”

“Thank you. You may leave my mate’s body now, vamp.” Kellen wanted to touch Laikyn, but not while another possessed her.

Laikyn’s head bent in the regal way, then the black eyes blinked, becoming the green of hers. She shivered, running her hands up her arms. “That was way creepy.”

He had to agree. “Let’s get to my place and set safeguards like the vamps showed us. Did you catch all he said and pushed into my mind?” Kellen made a turn in the middle of the road, the maneuver taking several attempts to get turned around.

She nodded. “I did, although it was as if I was watching instead of being there. Definitely not something I want to do again.”

Kellen saw goosebumps on her arms, wishing he could erase the last half hour.

“You realize I’m still here, right?” Damien’s voice came over the phone.

“Motherfucker,” Kellen growled.

“I’m sure I’ve done that a few times,” Damien agreed, then sobered. “You both will need to be vigilant. The being will now know you had help, and maybe even rethink his pursuit.” Kellen pictured the elegant man shrugging.

“I don’t think any of us think he will actually do that, do we?” Kellen reached the road to his home, happy to see Rowan and Lyric waiting for them.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him. But, since you so conveniently created a link with me…yes, I felt your presence, Alpha, you will always be able to contact me. Just try to knock first. I do like my privacy. Feel free to share what I taught you with your pack. Knowledge is power, wolfman.” Damien ended the call before Kellen could say another word.
Boon, Elle. Iron Wolves MC Books 1-4 (Kindle Locations 5333-5371). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

There is still more to learn and share with his pack, but first Kellen and Lake will complete their mating.

We do get to see the Vampire before he heads out to get Laikyn again. He has an interesting assistant, Arie, whose true loyalty is to the Vampire King and Council. It’s the threat to Damien and Lucas that has her contacting them since the Vampire King is also the twin’s father.

In this book I found that having read most of the Mystic Wolves books was a plus as Niall their Alpha calls Kellen and sends Jennaveve a very interesting Fae to assist them.

There’s much suspense and change in this book along with action and some scenes that sizzle off the pages.

I have the four-book boxset and have finished the next book and the bonus Christmas novella. Those reviews are up next.

Winter Blog Review

Breezy has always been in love with Xan, unfortunately the way she chose to get his attention is why he’s ignoring her. The short skirts and corsets are how the women he uses and discards dress. He makes the assumption she’s just like them and refuses to acknowledge they’re mates.

The thing is Breezy isn’t like those women at all. She works hard and stays home most nights. She’s leaving work when she’s attacked, fortunately she’s well trained in self-defense and manages to get away with minimal damage to herself.

When she gets to the club it’s decided she should go home with Xan. He would take her home first to get clothes. He gets distracted though and Breezy slips out without him. Big mistake as she ends up being run off the road. Fortunately, Xan isn’t that far behind.

This time everyone meets up at Xan’s to discuss the problems.

This is a favorite scene.

“Back to the creepy dude. Did he say or do anything else, or did you see anything else?” Kellen questioned.

Breezy chewed on her bottom lip. “No. When I walked outside I was busy opening my gum when I noticed the note under my wiper. I thought it was going to be a stupid admirer, not a stalker.”

“You get those a lot?” Xan’s hand shot out and pulled her back to his lap. She fit just right, even when she squirmed and almost injured him.

“Don’t be an ass, Xander.” Her elbow connected with his midsection.

“For fucksake, do I need to separate the two of you? Y’all are trying my patience, and I have the patience of a saint.”

Xan snorted. “Sure, I can see that. Answer the question, bella.” His arms pulled her in closer.

“No, I don’t get notes left on my car all the time. I’ve had a rose or two left before, but who’d have thought I’d get a…stalker like note right on the heels of Taya and Lyric.”

Xan ran his hands up and down her arms, hoping to chase the goosebumps away. He vowed nothing would touch her, or take her from him.

“The note seemed pretty specific. Your blood will be our blood. Do you have any enemies, or jilted lovers, anyone we should know about?” Kellen asked, his stare intimidating. Xan wanted to know the answers as well.

She shook her head. “The only person who might be angry at me is the new doctor in the ER, but that is recent. No jilted lovers. I have no enemies. My life is pretty boring. I go to work, the club, and home. I haven’t been on a date in years.” She clamped her lips shut.

He stilled beneath her. Years? “What do you mean?”

When it appeared she wasn’t going to answer, Xan shifted her in his lap, ignoring the others in the room. “Surely you’ve had a date, or boyfriend, lover, something?” “Look, I was busy with school, then becoming an RN and getting specialized. I didn’t have time, nor the want. I like going out with my girlfriends, and then they all became mated, so…” she took a breath. “I work with humans, and I’ll go out with some of the nurses. But, it’s different. I find myself always on guard. It just became easier to just go home and read.”

Something like possession filled his being. Kellen chuckled, but Xan ignored him. He began to connect a few dots himself. Her penchant for blushing. The way she seemed shy, yet melted when he touched her. He tried to think back and picture her with any of the men or wolves from the MC or pack, and came up with zero. Mine. He and his wolf both snarled. It didn’t matter if she’d been with a couple dozen or none, she was theirs. He’d find it in himself how to be gentle, how to go slow, and by all that he was, he’d make it good for her.

“I think it’s time we left, kids.” Kellen smacked his hand on his thigh. “We have several wolves along our borders keeping an eye on things. I’m only a howl away.” He tapped his head.

“Lock the door on your way out.”

“Rude, brother dear.” Lyric laughed.

“Love you, sis. Rowan, you take care of my baby sister or else.” Xan did look up to meet his brother-in-law’s gaze. The fierce stare was one he felt for Breezy and knew he didn’t need to tell the other man anything else.

“I’ll let y’all know when I hear from my team.” Rowan held Lyric’s hand as they walked out the door.

Kellen stopped by the large entryway. “If you remember anything else, or if there’s something you think I should know, give me a holler.”

Xan looked up from the amber eyes of his mate, even though she hadn’t acknowledged him yet to look at his alpha. “I will.”

The door shut with a resounding thud. Nerves began to dance in his gut. He’d never thought to seduce his mate. A virgin at that. His eyes narrowed. “Breezy, we need to talk.”

“That is never a good thing to hear. Usually that means bad news.” She tried to slide off.

His hands gripped her hips, making her straddle his thighs on the large recliner. “You know I want you, so don’t play like you didn’t know that. I need to ask you a question, and I need you to be honest with me.”

He watched her swallow, her tongue peeked out and licked her lips, but she nodded.

“Are you still a virgin?” His voice came out more of a growl.

Her eyes widened, and she looked away. “Does it matter? I mean, yes I guess it does to you.”

A tear welled in her eye, followed by another and he found she was crying. “Don’t cry. Damn woman. You’re breaking my heart here.” He pulled her into his chest, murmuring softly as he rubbed her back.

Her hiccupping laugh ended with a snort. “Who’d have thought Xander Fucking Carmichael would be good at this.”

He ran his hand up her back, tangling his fingers in her still damp hair. “Good at what?”

“You know, holding a sobbing female and letting her get snot all over him.” She kept her face buried in his neck.

“You do realize you call me names a lot, right? I’m not sure I appreciate being called Xander Fucking Carmichael, unless it was when I was buried deep inside you and you were screaming that.” He tugged her head back, loving the blush he knew his words would cause. “Now, answer my question.”

“Fine. Yes. I’m a virgin. There. Happy now?” God, how he loved the sparkle in her eyes.

“No, but I will be once I change that little fact.”
Boon, Elle. Xan’s Feisty Mate, Iron Wolves MC 2 (Kindle Locations 707-763). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

Xan and Breezy finally complete the mating, but that doesn’t solve the issue of the attacks on her.As they start collecting clues nothing appears to make sense. Even Breezy’s father and brothers can’t seem to shed any light on anything.

Some pretty interesting things in this book, as Rowan’s team joins in the hunt. Even though they are human they have some pretty awesome skills.

The past meets the present with lots of surprises, action and the MC form of romance and sizzle.

I’m already starting the next book.

Winter Blog Review

I am doing a re-read of Iron Wolves since there is now a new series with their offspring and I wanted to refresh my memory of all the key players. I also found I haven’t reviewed them all, so I’ll be doing that as well.

Lyric is Xan’s sister, she frequently goes out with Kellen’s sister Syn. Kellen is Alpha of their pack and President of the MC, Xan is Pack Beta and VP of the MC. To say they are over-protective is an understatement.

Lyric and Syn are out with some human friends and what was a fun and exhilarating night, turns deadly. A strange wolf attempts to kidnap Lyric as she leaves the restroom. In the events that follow, she has a human rescuer, one who is bitten by the leader of the mangy wolves.

Once Lyric realizes the man has been bitten and does the only thing she can, she soothes the first bite then bites him again, linking him to her pack instead of the unknown. Instead of taking him to the clubhouse she takes him home figuring she will stay with him a couple of days until he shifts. Unfortunately, it’s going to happen a lot quicker than that.

This is a favorite scene after Rowan shifts.

Rowan shook out his hands and rolled his head around like he was getting ready for a fight. He exhaled loudly and then inhaled. Kellen wasn’t sure what the fuck the guy thought was going to happen. He’d always been the less talk, more action type guy himself.

Without pausing, he opened himself to Rowan, barreling into the mind of the wolf and took over the shift. Fuck! Three shifts in one night, and he still had to do it again when they got back to the house. Rowan was probably crying like a bitch and wishing for death right about now. Only Kellen didn’t find him cowering in the corner of his mind. The man was trying to handle the pain without showing any outward signs. Obviously, Uncle Sam’s training was paying off.

After he made sure Rowan could hold the shift, he opened a connection to all three of his pack members. All right, my minions, follow me and don’t fuck around. I’m not in the mood to hunt, kill, or fuck Bambi. Dude, that is messed up on a level even Bodhi ain’t messed up on.

Xan nudged him in the side. Who wants to fuck Bambi? Unless she’s some new hot chick?

What is going on? Why can I hear you in my head? Rowan asked.

That’s the power of the alpha. Sorry, I sorta screwed you by not taking you to him for your first shift. I just thought we’d have a few days. Lyric’s voice sounded apologetic.

We will talk about it when we get to Rowan’s.

Kellen didn’t allow any room for arguments. With Xan taking the lead, he nipped Lyric, letting her know without words he wanted her to follow. Rowan, still in protective mode, would follow, of that Kellen had no doubt.

He understood more about Rowan in the moments he was inside his mind than he’d ever get talking to the man for days or weeks in a deep interrogation session. The man was definitely in lust with Lyric, and, if he wasn’t missing his mark, they were meant to be mates. Things were about to get interesting. He kept his chuckle to himself, knowing his best friend was gonna be one pissed off big brother when he realized his baby sister was about to be mated.
Boon, Elle. Lyric’s Accidental Mate (Iron Wolves MC 1 ~ Bite of the Moon) (Kindle Locations 555-572). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

I laughed way too hard at the Bambi references as Kellen realizes Rowan’s thoughts about turning.

Lots of suspense as they try to figure out who has it in for Xan. As a message is left on one female’s car and another they discover is missing. Both of whom have shown interest in Xan.

Betrayal within the pack I didn’t see coming. There are also references to the Mystic Pack I’ve reviewed all but one of those but maybe I’ll do a re-read and add the one I don’t have.

I am only reviewing Royally Taken – by Elle Boon here. I am still reading the others and will do a complete review of the Anthology when I am finished with all of them.

ROYALLY TAKEN:

He’s the protector. Sometimes he walked a fine line between right and wrong, but make no mistake, when shit goes south, he’s the one you’d want to have your back.

I fell in love with this series in the first book Royally Twisted. Now the tale continues as the Royal Sons take on the rescue of Ayesha’s sister from a human trafficking ring. Little did they know they would be getting some help from an unexpected source.

Kailani Travino had been planning her escape from her father and brother ever since she turned eighteen, and she wasn’t going to let them hurt their latest acquisition either. Of course that makes her escape a bit more difficult and dangerous.

This is a favorite scene.

“Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Traeger asked, wondering if his eyes were playing tricks on him. Surely he didn’t just watch two women scale their way down the side of the mansion. Well, small in the sense it wasn’t a Kennedy size mansion. Fuck, this mission just became a little more complicated.

“The first girl looked like the one Keys gave us information on. The other one, I didn’t recognize. What do we do with her, boys?” Digger asked.

Traeger looked at the other man. “We grab ‘em both and figure out the what the fucks after.”

They’d driven down with Digger and Coal, both men driving their cage vehicles. While the MC preferred their bikes, when they went on a mission, they used what they needed, and a cage or a vehicle on four wheels was usually needed. Digger drove the lead SUV, a tricked out armored Escalade that fit eight, while Coal drove a van that could hold a dozen, and also housed a state of the art computer system.

“Sounds solid to me,” Duke agreed.

“My facial recognition program says one of the females is the sister of the fuck who took the girl we’re here to rescue, which by the way, it appears she’s helping our target escape,” Keys explained through the speaker system of their vehicle, letting them all in on what he’d found.

“We better move. I see movement on the upper floors. I think the fucks in question know their girl is missing.” Traeger opened the door, moving before he’d finished speaking, blending into the waning night. There were a few things he was excellent at—fucking, shooting any type of weapon with accuracy, and blending into his surroundings. Even at over six feet two, he knew how to find the shadows and become one with them. He made sure his rifle was close just in case he needed it as he moved toward his targets, keeping his ears peeled for any indication that the men from inside had come out. Thanks to Keys, they had already disabled all the alarms inside and out, so even if the women inadvertently would’ve triggered one, none would go off.

He and King moved like a team, both silent and deadly when needed, each of them taking a route toward the women that was sure to intercept wherever they planned to go, before they had a chance to get there. King motioned for him to stay closer to the house, while he moved farther ahead in case there was trouble waiting in front of the women. From the intel they’d gotten on the drive down, there shouldn’t be, but Traeger knew it only took a moment for shit to hit the fan. In cases of human trafficking, none of them liked to gamble with the lives of women or children, or in this case a teen girl.

Flood lights began lighting up the front yard, making it nearly impossible for him to find his shadowy spots, but he didn’t change his course, staying low, picking up his pace until he finally reached the two women at the same time as King. His arms came up and around the older of the two, his hand clamping over her mouth, silencing her scream.

“Sssh, I’m not here to hurt you. Well, that is unless you’re part of your brother’s shit, then all bets are off,” he growled.

Traeger held her slender body against his, feeling her instant surrender against his chest.

She shook in his arms for a moment, then relaxed as if all the fight went out of her.

“We need to move. Keys says there’s movement inside and lots of it,” King said, his deep voice barely above a whisper.

Both girls whimpered but between the both of them, neither could say anything.

“Your sister’s looking for you. If you’re a good girl, I’ll have you back with her by sunup,” King assured the young girl.

Traeger’s woman stiffened in his arms. “What’s the matter, you upset we’re taking away your money maker?” he asked, venom lacing his words.

The younger female in King’s arms squirmed, trying to get away. “She saved me, you asshat,” she muttered out between King’s fingers.

Traeger raised his brows but didn’t say a word. “We need to move. You got your target under control Pres, or you need a little assistance?”

King raised one brow, his eyes, from what Traeger could see reflected from the moonlight, clearly telling him his friend, and President of the Royal Sons, would be paying him back for that remark. Traeger gave a low chuckle, figuring they’d both need to blow off some steam when they got back to the club, unless they found another way to expend the pent up energy. The woman he held moved against him, reminding him of another way he could blow off steam, a much more pleasurable way for sure. However, fucking a woman who had clear ties to one of the largest drug cartels on the west coast, one that also dabbled in human trafficking, was a sure way to wind up dead, or in jail. Neither option held much appeal.

“You two done playing? ‘Cause you got about ten fuckers coming in hot right behind you. I can give you a distraction, but you’re not gonna make it back to us the same way you went in. Find another way, and we’ll meet you at plan B.”
Boon,Elle. Royally Taken. The Dirty Dozen: MC Edition. Kindle Locations (3027-3069). Kindle Edition.

There is plenty of suspense and action as Traeger ‘Trigger’ takes Lani to safety. Well sort of.

A page turning read that may contain triggers. I couldn’t stop turning the pages as this story unfolds with lots of emotion, pain, romance and sizzle.

review-fall-cornucopia

In this book Elle takes on some difficult subjects and there are scenes that could be a trigger for some people. She not only addresses suicide and the aftermath, but she also brings breast cancer into this story but not how you might expect.

Tymber sees Ivy trying to peak into a room where a meeting is in progress. Not knowing her story but sensing she needs to talk he approaches her.

Ivy needs to work out the emotions she has building, but didn’t have the courage to enter the room. In Tymber she finds someone she can connect with, and that surprised her.

This is a favorite scene.

Walking out the door, he made his way toward the mystery woman, wondering what would make a stunner like her want to kill herself. Her outfit screamed zero fucks given but clearly cost a lot of money. He was the only boy of four and knew enough to spot name brands. Harley Davidson clothes were sexy as fuck but weren’t cheap. Paired with the leather mini skirt, and the dollar signs were adding up. The slim, sexy legs he could imagine wrapped around his waist or neck…he truly was an equal opportunity guy, looked as though she worked out.

“You going to stand there all night and eye fuck me, or move on?”

Tymber brought his gaze up, startled to see bright green eyes glaring back at him. Black hair, green eyes, and porcelain skin. Black Irish his mama would’ve call her. Damn, he bet she had the fiery temper too. “Sorry, I was trying to get the nerve up to speak to you,” he lied.

She fell back onto her feet, no longer standing on the tips of the boots she wore, the leather making a creaking noise in the silence of the hall. “Uh huh, and you thought my ass had all the answers?”

A grin split his lips. “Sugar, many a fine ladies’ asses have left me speechless, yet none have given me answers. Does your ass talk?”

It was her turn to grin. “Well, I’m told when I walk away men’s tongues tend to wag. Does that count?”

He stepped closer, keeping his hands in his pockets, not wanting to appear threatening. Damn, she smelled fucking amazing. “I’d ask for a demonstration, but I find myself not wanting you to leave.”

She snorted. “Good line, lumberjack.”

Tymber startled at the name. “What?”

“The flannel and work boots. Hence lumberjack. Although I do have to say California is a far cry from the woods.” As she spoke, her hand went up and down, outlining his frame, indicating his attire.

He thought about her words, then nodded. “So, going by clothing choice, you’d be goth girl. Oh, we are a pair. The lumberjack and goth girl. Surely those are superhero names or should be.”

She laughed, then bit her lip. “I…this is odd.”

He moved across the hallway, giving her space when he sensed she needed it. He leaned against the wall, raising one leg up and resting his foot on the wall and then crossed his arms. “Nah, not odd. Ant Man was odd,” he said when the silence stretched too long.

Finally, she nodded. “You’re right; that could work. Our superhero names,” she agreed. “What would be our superpower?” she mimicked his pose.

Running his hand down his short beard a couple times, he tapped his chin as he thought. “Superman has several powers, but his disguise was fucking lame as shit. I’m gonna go with Iron Man.”

“I didn’t ask which superhero. I said what superpower,” she laughed.

Her laugh was deep, making him think of smooth whiskey. “Yeah, but after giving it some thought, I decided a complete takeover was due,” he argued.

Again, her husky laugh filled the hallway. “You’re a rule breaker, aren’t you?”

Tymber shrugged. “Only when the rules are stupid. Now, before you get your panties in a twist, I’m not saying your rules were stupid.”

When she held her hand up and gifted him with another laugh, he swore he’d do almost anything to hear it again and again. “First of all, I didn’t give a rule. Second of all, I don’t have any panties on.” Her cheeks turned a delicate pink, but she didn’t break eye contact.

Oh, he liked her sass. Now, he just needed to convince her to go to the suicide help meeting, or maybe he could help her. He knew all about thinking life was over. Five years ago, he was sure his time was up. He’d never heard of a man getting breast cancer. For fuckssake, he didn’t have tits like a woman. Sure, he had pecs, he worked out and had muscles, but not huge man boobs. A nice six pack and he felt he was good to go. No, he wouldn’t win any body building competitions, but he didn’t give a shit about them. He’d had women say they could wash their tongues on his abs…and he’d let them. Ahh, the good old days.

“Hey, you okay?”

Shit, he needed to keep his head on straight.

“My name’s Tymber Black, by the way,” he blurted.

Big green eyes widened. “Oh, um, I’m Ivy.”

He moved off the wall, holding out his hand. “Nice to meet you, Ivy. Would you like to go grab a cup of coffee and discuss our superhero status further?”

Wariness filled her gaze. “Is that a euphemism for lets go have sex?”

Her pale hand trembled in his large one. “Sugar, when we have sex, there will be no euphemisms. I’m not one to worry about being too harsh or blunt. If I have something to say, or if I feel something, I just say it. Life is too short to play those type of games.”
Boon, Elle . Royally Twisted (Royal Sons MC). Elle Boon. Kindle locations (148-187). Kindle Edition.

As this story plays out, we meet the brothers of Ivy’s best friend who killed himself. They believe she was Luke’s girlfriend, when in fact Damien was the man in Luke’s life. They take exception when Ivy starts dating Tymber and things get wild.

A wild, intense, satisfying read, with plenty of heat in more ways than one.

A Fey’s Wolf – Mystic Wolves Book 5 By Elle Boon

A Fey’s Wolf
Mystic Wolves Book 6
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Elle Boon

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

When a wolf catches the scent of his mate, he’ll do anything to claim and protect her, even if that means protecting the little Fey from himself.

An Enforcer…

Torq’s place among the Mystic Wolves gave him the freedom to search for his mate, but when he finds her, he realizes things aren’t as easy as he’d hoped they’d be. However, years of honing his skills have proven he was more than the man and wolf for the injured Fey.

A Powerful Fey…

Talia’s tired of hiding but isn’t quite ready to make that final step as a normal female after years of captivity. Hiding out on the Fey Realm seemed like another form of being caged, however being caught in the sights of a shifter far larger than any man she’d ever seen was more than she’d bargained for.

A Plan Set In Motion…

Things don’t always go as planned, but when the Goddess puts two of her people together, she assumes things will end up how they should. However, outside forces realize a powerful Fey are within their grasps and want what they didn’t have…a link to the Fey Realm.

Will the wolf and his Fey have a chance to find their happily ever after, or will they be destroyed before they get the chance?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Torq is thinking of leaving the Mystic Wolves. His mate is unattainable in the Fey realm and he’s not sure how long he can keep it together.

After her rescue from Keith’s dungeon, Talia more than anything needed the peace and respite only going home could give her. She really couldn’t handle anything other than that, not even a visit with her daughters and their mates.

After a serious training session and talk with Belle, she applies for a position with the Mystic Lodge. The position also comes with a furnished cottage, which is where Torq finds her.

This is a favorite scene.

When Torq had first felt the pull to come to the Mystic Pack, just a few hours from the Iron Wolves, he couldn’t explain the draw. The emotions that had bombarded him when he’d arrived was nothing out of the ordinary. He’d searched the members, scenting the unmated females for one who called to his wolf, but had found nothing that made the surly animal wake up and say Mine. Not until he’d been part of the mission that had went into the compound to help another member, Jett Tremaine and his mate Taryn, find her mother, or at least answers. He’d known as soon as he’d stepped foot inside the concrete building his mate was near. What he hadn’t expected was the emaciated female, who smelled like honey and wild flowers, to be that woman, and also be Taryn’s mother. A Fey who’d been tortured for years.

His grip on the handle bars tightened, making the bike shoot forward. Goddess, even half starved and terrified, Talia was the most gorgeous female he’d ever set eyes on. His wolf had snarled at him, wanting to claim her there and then, but the wariness in her luminescent blue eyes kept his dominance in check. Torq had thought he’d have time to woo her, show her not all men were like the fucker who…he shut down the train of thought, knowing he’d be a growly bastard if he didn’t.

The sight of the huge mountain lodge came into view. He still wondered why she’d returned but hadn’t contacted the pack, or why the Fey hadn’t told Niall. Payton and the other Fey who began gathering on pack lands in the last couple years were working to fortify the wards, ensuring all who came to Mystic would be safe. A haven of sorts, which Niall and Zayn were still trying to wrap their heads around. None of them had planned to increase the pack, only wanting to protect those within the small family they had. However, the Fey had other plans.

He signaled for the turn, letting his nose and wolf lead him to the woman who called to them. Their mate. Goddess, he hoped like hell she felt the pull too. Torq didn’t think he had the strength to allow her to leave him again.

The road leading from the main lodge wasn’t as smooth, clearly it’s wasn’t one the guests used, making him regret not bringing his truck. He slowed his Harley, easing over the ruts and holes. His wolf banged against his skull as the sight of the small cabin came into view. The Harley rumbled to a stop several feet from the porch. He took a deep breath, taking in all the scents around him. An overly perfumed female had been there recently as well as several males, making both he and his wolf snarl. Their scents clearly a day or so old, while he knew for a fact Talia had only returned to Earth this morning. In his head, he thought of the reasons for the others presence at his mate’s cabin, but then, common sense had him shoving jealousy aside. Being a new employee, maybe they’d come to clean, move shit, or whatever hotel employees did for managers.

“Fuck,” he growled, looking up through the trees.

“Are you going to sit out there all day and be snarly, or are you going to come inside?”

Torq had to push his animal side down along with his dick, which was pressing at the zipper of his jeans. “Good afternoon, Talia,” he said, taking in her appearance. No longer did she look like a waif who’d fall over in a stiff wind. Goddess, he had no clue how gorgeous she truly was. Although admittedly, she was stunning even when she wasn’t at her best. “You look well.” Such an understatement.

She tilted her head to the side, the dark hair, which had hints of blue when the lighting hit it, flowed over her shoulder. He kept his fingers around the grips of the handle bars lest he jump off the bike and do what he wanted, and that was wrap those silky tresses around his fist and hold her head in place while he kissed her.

“Come inside. I think we have much to—discuss.” She turned, her ass encased in a pair of denim that lovingly cupped a heart shaped bottom he really wanted to explore.

Before he realized what he was doing, he’d already dismounted his bike, keys stuffed into his pocket as he strode the few feet to her porch.

Once he was at the door, he paused, taking a calming breath followed by another. He couldn’t do what he and his wolf wanted. Mark and claim her for all to see. No, he’d need to tread lightly. Damn, he was going to be taking a lot of runs and cold showers. “This is a nice place,” he remarked from the doorway.

Talia nodded. “It’s even nicer inside.” Her shy smile made his heart jerk. She was nervous.

His lips tilted up in a wry grin.

“Want me to take my boots off?” They didn’t have any mud or shit on them, but he thought he’d be a gentleman and offer.

“Please, just come in and stop treating me with kid gloves. I’m much older than you or any wolf on this mountain. Trust me, I’m not a fragile fucking flower that’s going to wilt if you—be you.”

Her gruff words had him moving forward, encroaching into her personal space. “I didn’t mean to make you feel like a fragile anything. I just don’t want to scare you.”
Boon, Elle. A Fey’s Wolf (Mystic Wolves Book 5) (pp. 29-33). Elle Boon. Kindle Edition.

There is almost overwhelming attraction between these two, but it’s a strange sort of shared memory that triggers a sense of unease in both of them. More Talia than Torq as he describes the reason he is calling her farfalla, ‘butterfly’.

Lots of dark and evil as they trace the origin. Talia and Torq have a bond that goes beyond just a mating one, and she needs to connect with her children as well as the pack.

A page turning read with a great lead into the next book which will feature Taryn’s friend Sky.

A WOUNDED WOLF…
A FIERCE PROTECTOR…
AN UNSHAKABLE BOND…

Will Bronx and Taya be able to create that mystical bond without her inner wolf, or will their love be enough?

A WOUNDED WOLF…

Having suffered at the hands of a rogue pack, Taya’s wolf retreat’s deep inside her. She learns to rely on her humanity as she seeks sanctuary from the pack she’d been taken from as a child.

A FIERCE PROTECTOR…

Bronx feels an instant connection to Taya the moment he set eyes on her, even though he couldn’t sense her wolf. Her pain and wariness stop him from claiming her right then and there, keeping him and his wolf on edge.

AN UNSHAKEABLE BOND…

Neither Taya nor Bronx can deny their feelings for one another, and as the weeks go by, they both give into their desires. Bronx’s wolf is ready to claim Taya, wolf or not. Taya misses her wolf, but when her past catches up to them, she’ll need more than her humanity and Bronx to save her. They’ll need the strength of the pack and help from the Fey if they hope to come out of the battle alive and whole.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Taya is struggling, her wolf has receded and no amount of coaxing will get her to come out. Her wolf had allowed her human side to retreat and took all the abuse the kidnappers inflicted on her. Kellen and the Iron Wolves rescued her but now she’s come to the Mystic Pack. Hoping that maybe she can heal.

Niall has asked Jenna to help and Bronx isn’t sure what to make of that development.

This is a favorite scene.

Bronx listened to his mate scream, her words breaking his heart. He didn’t know what to do for her and wanted to kill the men who’d hurt her, taking her wolf from her. Fuck, they may not have raped her body, but her mind was almost just as bad. He sat just at the edge of the woods near her cabin; watching as she went inside, listening as she went through her nightly routine. Yeah, he was a fucking stalker of epic proportions. Every night she did the same damn thing. She washed up, and then the sound of her tears mixing with the shower ate at him until he couldn’t stand it any longer. He wanted to burst through the door and hold her, tell her everything would be fine. He wanted to claim her, make her wolf come back to her. Yet, he didn’t know how to do that. Hell, he’d never heard of a wolf receding the way hers had except for Slater’s mate, but magic was involved there, not so with Taya.

“You gonna sit out here all night, again?” Niall asked.

He’d heard his alpha moving through the woods, they were connected as a pack should be and shifted so they could talk. “Yep.” The one word answer came out clipped.

“I spoke to her alpha about what happened. I know she calls to your wolf, but man, if she can’t shift, you can’t turn a full blood who’s suppressed her instincts back into a shifter,” he sighed. “I don’t know what to tell you. You would be living a half-life with her.”

Bronx growled, the sound low and deep. Niall was his alpha but he wouldn’t let anyone tell him who he and his wolf called theirs.

“Don’t growl at me, boy.” Niall got in his face.

“I’m not your boy, Niall. You may be alpha, but I’m not a pussy and I won’t back down on this. You want to take me on over my mate?” His muscles bunched, bones ached to shift. He could feel Niall forcing his will on him, but with the thought of his mate being taken from him, the fucks he gave went out the proverbial window.

“Goddamn stubborn ass wolf. Stand down. I am not fighting you over your mate.” Niall’s eyes glowed bright blue in the darkness. The sound of rustling broke through the quiet of the night.

“So, whose dick is bigger?” Alaina moved into view.

Niall tossed his head back, looking up at the canopy of trees. “Goddess save me.”

“I’m pretty sure my dick is bigger,” Bronx offered, then held out his hand.
“Hey, she asked.”

“Yoohoo, did someone call me?”

Bronx spun to face a tiny creature he was sure wasn’t real. Holy shite, she oozed more magic than Payton and that was saying a lot.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? Well, not cat, but,” she stopped and waved her hand. “Oh, you know what I mean. My name is Jennaveve, but you will call me Jenna or I will kick you in the shin, or between the legs. Hard. Now, you called the Goddess, but you get me. You’re welcome.” She tilted her head to the side and then waited.

Alaina walked toward the ethereal creature, but was pulled up short by Niall. Bronx watched as his alpha and Alaina did a little scuffle. In a blink, the female named Jenna was in front of him. “I will not hurt you, unless you try to hurt me or mine. By the way, you are me and mine, so we are good. Now, you are Bronx, which is a total kickass name. Those two are Niall and Alaina, and they clearly like to play slap and tickle.” She shook her head. “Save it for the bedroom children, there are others present…unless you’re into that thing, then get a room at the right place.”

Niall froze with Alaina at his side. “Thank you for coming, Jenna. It’s been too long since we’ve seen you.” Niall’s tone was smooth and even. “Bronx, this is the Fey Queen.”

Jenna shrugged. “Fey, or Fey Queen. It’s potato or tomato. Depending on who you speak with.”

Bronx was pretty sure that wasn’t how the saying went, but again, he wasn’t sure the woman in front of him was completely sane, so kept his lips sealed. Having never met her, he waited for her to speak.

“Such a smart wolfie, yes you are. Who’s a good boy,” she cooed.

He narrowed his eyes, but kept his hands locked into fists at his sides. “You are seriously trying my very last nerve, Fey.”

Niall looked up at the sky, then back at him. “Bronx, watch your tone. This woman is more than meets the eye. She’s…just more and someone we will show respect to.” His tone brooked no argument.

Jenna waved her hand, then stared at Bronx. “Oh, I know you wolfies tend to be a wee uptight, but I like trying your last nerves. I’ll give you a direct line to my bestie. His name is Kellen, and he’ll tell you how awesome I am at doing just that.” She spun and faced the cabin, all signs of cheer evaporated. “My goddess, she is killing me.” Jenna’s feet left the ground. “I will speak with her, and let you know what we’re going to do.”

Before he could stop himself, he reached out, putting his body between the floating woman and the cabin. “You’re not going to hurt her.” He’d not allow anyone; woman or man, human or other, to lay one finger on Taya.

The Fey’s feet touched the ground her eyes met his. “You sure are a big fella, aren’t you?”

He shrugged, used to people saying those words. Right that instant he would use whatever he had at his disposal to protect what was his, and by all that he believed in, Taya was his.

A sigh that sounded put upon left the little woman’s lips. “I do so love you wolves, which is why you will land quite softly. You’re welcome by the way.”

Bronx was having a hard time following what the female was saying until he found himself being physically moved without anyone touching him. If she thought he wouldn’t fight the invisible bonds, she was crazier than he thought. His wolf burst out of him quicker than he’d ever done before, racing in front of the cabin door just as Taya was opening it. He growled, the sound had Jenna taking a step back.

“Down doggie. Bad doggie. Taya, be a good girl and get him a treat.” Jenna wagged her finger at him.

He bristled, but didn’t move an inch, even as he felt her magic rolling over him. He fought the bonds, growling as it tried to make him do what he wasn’t willing to do; leave his mate’s side. Hell to the no was he leaving Taya unprotected.

“I don’t think he’s housetrained yet. Um, who are you?” Taya’s hand landed on the top of Bronx’s head, making his wolf purr.

Holy hell, he was making the sounds of a contented cat, dammit. He clamped his jaws together enjoying the feel of Taya’s fingers on his wolven body. She didn’t seem to notice, or care as long as he wasn’t in human form.

“My name is Jenna, and I’m here to help you. Again, you’re welcome.” Jenna tried to step around Bronx who growled at her.

“Stop growling or you can’t come inside.” Taya tugged on a handful of his fur.

He was ready to roll over and show her his belly, or if he shifted, she’d get an eyeful of something else. Nope, better to stay wolf than man.

Elle Boon

Elle Boon lives in Middle-Merica as she likes to say…with her husband, two kids, and a black lab who is more like a small pony. She’s known for her penchant of dropping F-bombs like a boss, needing coffee before she’s human, and blessing so many hearts, she is going for sainthood.

She’d never planned to be a writer, but when life threw her a curve, she swerved with it, being that she’s athletically challenged and all. She loves where this new journey has taken her. She writes what she loves to read, all things romance, whether it’s erotic, contemporary, or paranormal, as long as there is a happily ever after.

Her biggest hope is that after readers have read one of her stories, they fall in love with her characters as much as she did. She loves creating new worlds, and has more just waiting to be written. Elle believes in happily ever afters, and can guarantee you will always get one with her stories.
