Rye Ellison, former elite Navy SEAL Commander, retired from the teams the same way he lived, in a blaze of glory. After nearly thirty years of stellar service, he almost crashes and burns, but his hard-earned reputation saves him from a court martial. Now all he wants is to kick back in Margaritaville, but the Department of Homeland Security has other ideas.

The DHS Special Group Leader offers him a contract he couldn’t refuse, they need him to put his famed skills back in the game and help recover vital information stolen from a CIA asset overseas. When Rye learns the CIA pain-in-the-asset involved is none other than Harper Chandler, a woman he never wants to see again, much less work with, taking the mission becomes a no-go, even with the money.

Then he learns the missing dossier could clear him of crimes he’s been accused of that led to his court martial, Rye signs on without a second thought. The opportunity to clear his name is too important to be brushed aside. Especially by the woman directly responsible of killing his men, and almost his career.

He’ll pay the price of working with the beautiful, cocky, know-it-all if that’s what it takes. But he refuses to allow her to get him killed or give her another shot at his heart.

When Si taps Rye for this mission, he knows it’s not going to be easy for the former SEAL Commander. There’s a lot of unresolved information and many people he just doesn’t trust anymore.

Even though he was reinstated the whole process of court-martial has left bad feelings all around.

Harper is a CIA asset, she’s spent her entire career finding information and directing assaults against the enemy. Including the one that had Rhy’s team surrounded with him the only survivor.

Both are now hell bent on finding out what really occurred that day, as well as taking down the responsible people, both friendly and enemy. There’s also a history beyond the professional with Rye and Harper, one that neither has completely put in the past.

Reliving the past is never a good way to go, but the doubts are still there and they have to get past that.

This is a favorite scene.

“Get out of here,” she demanded, jumping to her feet. She pointed a damning finger at him. “Do you honestly think I’d set you up? That I’d get seven elite SEALs killed for what, money?” She let out an angry breath.

“We made love an hour before you left. Do you think I’m that kind of person?”

“I don’t know what to think. You weren’t too flattering when you gave your deposition at the hearing.”

What the hell did he say?

“Were we both at the same hearing?” she asked, not believing her ears. “Because I remember saying you were the best Navy SEAL I’ve ever worked with.”

“You also said I was impulsive, demanding, and a rule breaker.”

She lowered her shoulders, closed her eyes and shook her head. He couldn’t be serious. She opened her eyes and shot him a heated glance. “Rye, that’s all true. How many times have you done as you damn well please out there in the field? Almost every time I’ve sent you on a mission. That doesn’t make you a bad SEAL or bad at your job or a bad person. It’s just the way you are. You go more on instincts than orders.”

“That’s not a good thing for a military military man. His job is to follow orders.”

“Yours has always been to do as much damage to the enemy as you can and get your men back alive. Every man who served under you knew that and respected you for it.”

“Admirals don’t consider things like that as a sign of valor. They questioned me about it for hours. Wanted to know how many times I’d went off on my own.”

“Well, they didn’t put you in the brig, so I can only assume you didn’t tell them or else they’d have kicked you out without your retirement.”

His sober look scared her. He no longer resembled the man she’d once known. Not the man she’d sent on his final mission.

“I lied through my teeth.”

She faked a smile. “I figured you would. But, I’m different, Rye. I had to tell the truth. If they had tripped me up, we’d both have lost and I have too much to do before I retire.”

He leaned his hips against her credenza, folded his arms and grinned the sexiest, crooked smile a man could ever possess. He hadn’t changed that much. Yes, there was a hint of grey at his temples, a few new wrinkles, and lesser bulk, but otherwise he appeared about perfect.

“So, you’re taking that job?”

She glanced away. “You of all people should realize I’ve been doing this for twenty years. I’ve never lived stateside. All my years have been in the field. Yes, occasionally I get to DC for a class, a briefing, or to testify before Congress, but this and places like this, are the only homes I’ve known.”

He looked around. “I never thought much about that. I guess you’re right. After a mission, me and my Team went home until the next call up. You never left with us.”

She shook her head. “No, it’s been Quonset huts and cinderblock buildings for a very long time.” She sat back down, folding her hands on her desk. “Maybe I’d like a little commute.”

He laughed and her heart fluttered in her chest. “You’d enjoy that for about ten minutes.”

“Well, then how about a mall, clothes shopping, a movie, dinner at a restaurant? I rarely get to do any of those things.”

“It has been rough for you, hasn’t it, Harper? You’ve dedicated your life to this.” He waved his arm. “No Christmas at home, not much of anything.”

“I did spend a few holidays with my family, but then I realized how little I have in common with them. How difficult it is to talk to people not in the military.”

“You deserve that job.”

“I could simply retire. I have my years in. They’ve agreed to give me credit for time with other agencies.”

He studied her for a long time, and she recognized the old familiar look in his eyes. The one calling to her like the only way a man could to a lonely woman with too much on her mind to ever think about love.

“Why don’t we finish the business here and you come and visit me in Florida for a few weeks. See how it feels to be a civilian?”

“I heard you’d retired there. Do you like it?” The invitation relieved a lot of tension between them. Maybe he wasn’t still mad.

He shrugged. “It’s as good as any place. I can’t say I’m madly in love with it, but it’s an okay place to live. Can’t complain about the weather.”
Foster, Geri. Sign, SEAL and Deliver (Silver SEALs Book 8).Kindle Locations (498-533). Kindle Edition.

As this mission unfolds, so does another aspect with the appearance of Sully, someone else who had been around the first time around.

Plenty of tension, action, and heat in more ways than one, as their objectives are met.

Winter Blog Review

Wow, Amelia really needs to lighten up a bit. Apparently she can’t get past David’s reputation of being a womanizer, even though she’s just sprung on him the fact they have a child. A four year old he knew nothing about, since he didn’t answer his phone, all those years ago.

Amelia has a bigger problem that she needs help with. Her boss the Dallas DA was shot down in front of her and now she fears for her safety and her daughter’s.

It’s going to take some convincing but David follows her back to Dallas and talks her into picking up Leah and taking them both to Rainwater.

This is a favorite scene when David meets his daughter.

“Leah, do you know what a daddy is?”

“I know Mia has one. It’s a tall man who kisses her mommy a lot.”

“Yes, they do sometimes, but mostly they love their daughters.”

“Amelia,” her mother snapped. “I don’t think she’ll understand.”

“I’m not lying to her now only to correct it later, Mom. It’s not like I’m giving her to him.”

She turned back to Leah. “Daddies love their daughters just like a mommy.” She raised her hand to David, who slowly knelt. “This is your daddy. His name is David, but you can call him whatever you feel comfortable with.”

David held out his hand. “Hi, Leah.”

She studied him closely, her dark brows pulled together, her face scrunched up in confusion. Tilting her head, she made her choice and placed her hand in his. “I want to call you Daddy.”

Okay, David never thought he’d say it or feel it, but he fell head over heels in love with his daughter in that instant. Nothing had ever been so perfect in his eyes. He fought back tears as she walked into his arms and hugged him lightly. Burying his face in her hair, he breathed in the sweet scent.

Amelia patted him on the back. “It’s sort of overwhelming, isn’t it?”

He nodded briefly as his arm came around Leah and enveloped her in the protection of his parental pride. Nothing this heady had ever happened to him and if he lived to be a hundred, he didn’t think it would again.

Too soon, Leah stepped back and peered into his eyes. It was like looking at a younger version of his mom.

She put her hand next to her mouth and whispered, “Grandma said we can have ice cream.” She leaned closer, slipping her mother a sideways glance. “Do you like ice cream?”

He grinned. “I love it.”

She squealed with delight and clapped her hands. “Me too.” Then she turned, opened the door and ran into the kitchen, her grandma right behind her and Beaver nipping at her heels.

“So,” Amelia asked, looking at him unsurely. “What do you think?”

“She is the most wonderful thing I’ve ever seen.” He turned to her. “She really looks like my mother.”

She cocked her head and a laugh escaped her. “Look in the mirror. She’s the spitting image of you.”

He smiled to himself, considering that. Moving into the kitchen, he noticed Leah was struggling to get into a chair at the table. His instincts told him to jump over and help her, but he hesitated, watching as she finally righted herself and sat up waiting for her treat. She smiled over at him then and pointed to the chair next to her. “You can sit there and we’ll eat ice cream together.”

“Sounds good.” He slid in the chair and folded his hands on the table, waiting.

Amelia joined them and Diane brought the ice cream over, scooping it into bowls for each of them. When she placed his bowl in front of him, he picked up his spoon, but Leah immediately put her hand out to stop him. “Wait,” she said. “You have to have sprinkles.”

“Oh, I guess that’s the best part.”

“Yes. They make the ice cream gooder.”

He couldn’t take his eyes off the magical being sitting next to him. Her long brown hair stopped at the middle of her back, hanging in ringlets. Her brown eyes were exactly like his, so was the smile. As he searched, he found little about Leah resembling Amelia.

She was all his. Even her little hands were exactly like his mother’s. Small, dainty, with her little finger much shorter than the rest.

“She looks a lot like your mom, doesn’t she?” Diane remarked.

“Yes,” he answered immediately. “More than I would’ve thought possible.”

Amelia put down her spoon and licked her lips. “That’s why she carries her name. It just seemed right.”

He glanced over at her, a lump in his throat. She’d done all the right things. Maybe not telling Leah she had a dad made for an uncomfortable start, maybe it didn’t, but it all worked out in the end. Leah appeared to be healthy, happy and well loved. Now, more than ever. “Thank you for that. It really touches my heart.” He chuckled. “I can’t wait for dad and Olivia to meet her. They are going to be so surprised.”

Amelia looked at him with concern. “I thought we were going stay to ourselves.” She gulped. “For our own protection.”

“We can do that, but it’s not healthy to lock Leah up and never let her leave the house. We have to be reasonable.”

She bit her lip. “But what if —”

“No need to discuss all this in front of her.”
Geri Foster. I Am the Storm: Storm Warning Series, Book 4 (Kindle Locations 802-838).

David has to convince Amelia that what he feels for her is different, that he is different. Amelia has to let go of her issues with his past all while they try to figure out how to take down the Garza gang.

I loved Amelia’s family especially her brother Lincoln, who wants Garcia for more than the threat to his sister. The town of Rainwater truly comes together when the stakes are high.

This is a very emotional, tense, and suspenseful book. Plenty of family support and lots of love with the perfect amount of heat.

I definitely have to go back and read the rest of this series.

review-fall-cornucopia

Once again I am starting a series in the middle instead of the beginning. I am so grateful that these books are standalone.

Rainwater, Texas is a small town that has had it’s share of difficulties. In this book we get to know Nancy Wigan. She is the bank VP a position she earned after corruption was discovered in the upper echelon of the bank’s management. She’s also found herself elected to the City Council and is much admired for allowing group therapy sessions for Veterans to take place after hours at the bank.

Jeff on the other hand, is a veteran who has been having a hard time finding his groove in the civilian world. Working his ranch he doesn’t have much to do with any of the folks in town. Only his brother Russ and his nephew Austin get his attention. Well that’s not really true, He has definitely noticed Nancy, but he won’t let himself get involved with any woman. Not after the Dear John letter he got while he was deployed.

Unfortunately it’s Jeff’s service that is behind a stranger coming to town with revenge on his mind.

This is a favorite scene.

He watched as the doc left, leaving Nancy alone with a man he’d not noticed before.

Suddenly the hairs on the back of his neck came to attention, and he found himself getting out of his pickup and heading for the door of the bank.

On his way, he briefly greeted the men on their way out then headed inside and in Nancy’s direction. The stranger stood too close to her and his balled fists didn’t speak good things.

“Hey, Nancy,” he called out, more cheerfully than he felt. “I’m here to walk you home.” He barged between them like a two-year-old, but he didn’t care. Something didn’t seem right and he refused to throw Nancy to the wolves.

She appeared stunned to see him, but quickly recovered. By the flash of relief on her face, he grasped he’d done the right thing.

“Thank you, Jeff. It’s so nice of you to offer.” She turned to the new guy. “This is Alec Jones. He just joined the group.”

He turned and gave him the hardest stare he could muster. “What branch?”

“Branch?”

“Service. What branch of the military?”

“Army,” the man mumbled, averting his gaze.

Liar. You’ve never worn a uniform. “What unit? Where’d you serve?” “I’m not ready to talk.” Jones turned and stomped out of the bank, his hood up, eyes down.

He squinted after him, taking him in. He was so focused that, when Nancy reached out and touched his arm, it took a master-stroke of control not to instinctively jerk away. When his body reacted to her touch in a most unexpected way, he wished he had. A warm softness spread through him like a summer breeze after a harsh and cold spring, soothing him, body and soul.

How stupid could he be? A summer breeze? Those words had no place in his vocabulary, least of all in describing his feelings.

He shook his head, trying to dislodge the new sensation.

“He’s a weird one,” she said, her eyes trained on the back of Jones’ head. “I didn’t know he was coming. He showed up late, didn’t fill out the paperwork and, from what I could hear, didn’t say a word in therapy.”

“Then why’d he come?”

She shook her head, pressing her lips tight for a moment. “I don’t know.”

Shaking off her hold and turning to face her fully, he admonished, “You shouldn’t be in here alone. These guys have all been through some serious stuff. You don’t know what they’ll do. Hell, they don’t know what they’ll do. From now on make sure Dr. Molinsky sees you home.”

She stepped back, her smile upside down. “What are you doing here?”

Caught without an excuse, he had to quickly formulate a lie. “I was just driving by.”

The look in her eyes let him know she didn’t believe him, but she wasn’t going to call him on it either. He appreciated that more than he wanted to admit, and it left something aching inside him. Just another detail about Nancy that would dance through his mind that night. Oh well, it didn’t matter as long as she was safe.

With that thought, he abruptly turned and walked toward the door. Nodding his head in the direction of the exit, he commanded, “Let’s go.”

If he expected her to fight him on his tone he was in for a surprise. Nodding her head in easy agreement, she pointed to her office. “One second, I need to get my bag so I can lock up.”

As they stepped outside, she looked around acutely. “I think he’s gone. You don’t have to waste your time. I’ll get home safely.”

Should have known it wasn’t so easy. Smirking to himself at her tenacity, he wiped his face clear before turning back to her. “Damn right you will, cause I’m taking you.”
Geri Foster. Ride the Storm: Storm Warning Series, Book 4 (Kindle Locations 270-301).

After walking Nancy home and seeing the security or rather lack of in her home, Jeff is concerned.

These two will butt heads more than once over his high-handedness, but he really is only thinking of her safety.

It’s a convoluted, intense, and emotional journey as the motive behind the things happening come to light.

There are many characters from the previous books who make an appearance. I will definitely be going back and read those books.

I couldn’t put this book down, it grabbed me and wouldn’t let go.

Winter Blog Review

I have to say each and every book in this series has captivated me from the very first page. This one is no exception.

Garrett is charged with finding and rescuing Dr. Haley Kingston, his ex. She’s been taken by terrorists to provide medical care to their severely wounded leader.

Now there are many reasons why he shouldn’t take this on, but the important reason he should is because he’s the best one for the job.

We learn a lot in the first few chapters of this book, a botched bombing at the airport, the injured terrorist, the kidnapped doctor, a murdered witness and the clearly out of the loop FBI.

The agents in charge of this case join forces with Garrett and with the help of his Falcon connections are able to find and secure Haley.

This is a favorite scene that occurs shortly after her rescue.

“Let’s go inside and see if we can’t find you something to snack on until we get on the other side of Baltimore, closer to D.C.”

He exited the car, went around to her side, and opened the door. Always the gentleman. She smiled and mumbled her thanks. Inside, they drew little attention from the other shoppers as they went about their business. She wandered down a few aisles before grabbing a candy bar then moving to the cooler on the back wall.

He had two bottles of water waiting for her. Garrett didn’t shop. When they were in a store or restaurant his eyes constantly surveilled their surroundings until he felt they were safe. She knew he always carried a gun, but she’d never seen him this intense.

“Is that all you want?” she asked, worried that he hadn’t stopped looking for her long enough to eat or drink.

“Yes, I’ll grab something later.”

They cashed out and shoved open the store’s door, he instantly hooked her arm and pulled her back inside.

A white van sat in the back of the parking lot.

Had they been followed?

“What is it?” She moved closer to him and saw the van. “Is that them? How did they know we would come here?”

“I don’t know. They might have had an outside lookout.” He led her away from the door. “I’m not sure it’s El Hashem’s men. It could be someone else. Let’s wait and see what happens.”

She clutched his arm. “Garrett, I can’t go back there. If they get their hands on me, they’ll kill me.”

“I won’t let that happen. You’re safe with me.”

“I know that. I’m petrified they were able to follow us. What if they crash inside and innocent people get hurt?”

“Let’s not borrow trouble.” He casually put his arm around her shoulder and moved back toward the coolers. Since they’d paid for their items, he had a plastic bag in his hand. “Stay close and if anything happens there is an exit out the back. Run out and find a place to hide.”

He took out his phone and called Frank. “I have Haley. With ` Harrington and Grey’s help, we were able to get her safely out of the house. We’re about five miles away but it looks like they might have followed us.”

She stood close enough to hear their conversation.

“Where are you?” Garrett’s boss demanded.

“At a convenience store at the corner of Jackson and Parkland.”

“Okay. I’ll have Grey and Harrington turn around and head in your direction. They aren’t far away. Whatever you do, Garrett, don’t let them take her again.”

He glanced down at her and pulled her against his hard body. For the first time since she’d been abducted, she felt safe.

“I’ll make sure of that. She’s not going anywhere.”
Geri Foster. Broken SEAL: Book Ten in the Sleeper SEALs Series (Kindle Locations 736-760).

Thus begins a dangerous game of cat and mouse, as Garrett endeavors to keep her away from the terrorists.

It seems every time they turn around the bad guys are there, Garrett needs to get her some where safe so he and the others can figure out what the terrorists true plan is.

Plenty of twists and turns as they race to win this deadly game.

Scary, realistic, frustrating and action packed.

I have decided I need to read Geri’s Falcon series to get to know some of the players in this one better.

Winter Blog About Author

  Geri Foster

For as long as she can remember, Geri Foster has been a lover of reading and the written word. By the seventh grade she had worn out two library cards and had read every book in her age area of the library. After raising a family and saying good-bye to the corporate world, she tried her hand at writing.

To her surprise, she won a couple of contests, hooked up with a really great critique group and her writing career was well on its way. She spent several years studying her craft and developing her voice.

Action, intrigue, danger and sultry romance drew her like a magnet. That’s why she had no choice but to launch her published career with action-romance suspense. While she reads every genre under the sun, she’s always been drawn to guns, bombs and fighting men. Secrecy and suspense move her to write edgy stories about daring and honorable heroes who manage against all odds to end up with their one true love.

To keep the serious side of life at bay, Geri likes to write sexy short stories for her fans. In the Women of Courage series, Geri explores the deeper, darker nuances of life and relationships in small-town mid-century America.

Winter Blog Blurbs and Reviews

I was fortunate to have received two of these wonderful stories as ARCs so I am spotlighting and reviewing those first.

I have this preordered, so once I have it in my hot little hands, I will read and review the rest.

His Moonstruck Wolf
Wolves of Willow Bend #9.5
Heather Long
Winter Blog BlurbSm

When a matchmaker gets toasted at the after party, she finds the perfect wolf for her in the most unlikely of places. Of course, the last thing he wants is a mate, much less a matchmaking one.

Winter Blog ReviewSm

I have to say right from the start I love the Wolves of Willow Bend. With the packs currently in turmoil this was a welcome reprive for everyone in the Delta Crescent pack.

A Voodoo Valentine’s Ball celebrating the mating of Christopher and Rachel Ferrar done up as only their Alpha Serafina could do. One of the guests celebrating the mating of is Lesley-Anne Saucier the pack matchmaker. Now it’s not what you might think. The matchmaker only scents whether a couple is a possible mate match. It’s really up to them to make the choice.

As this celebration floats around her Lesley-Anne is approached by a male. Not just any male but by his scent a possible mate for her. That is until he removes his mask.

Hugo Ferrar the brother of the groom is one of Sarina’s Hounds. The last thing Lesley-Anne wants is a mate who is never around and is in constant danger.

It seems Hugo is very opinionated about matchmakers and the fact his brother had gone to one. This is a favorite scene.

“It’s a pity that sometimes mates can’t recognize each other right off. It’s not always mate at first sight.” He’d aroused her interest with that statement; he felt the weight of her focus shift to him. “Most often it just simply requires a knowledge. Wolves are human, too, of course, and we’re very busy. In times like these, it can be even harder to see the promise or the potential that’s there.”
“Yeah, but to go to a matchmaker? Really?” He stared at his brother and shook his head. “You have to be pretty desperate to ask someone else to find your mate for you.”

“Is that what you think a matchmaker does?” A thin, hard layer edged her words.

“I have no idea what a matchmaker does. I’ve never needed one, nor would I ever seek one. The very idea that some wolf takes one look at me, gets my scent, and then goes willy-nilly through the pack to find the other wolf that matches it before returning to tell me whom they’ve chosen— that’s bullshit.” He couldn’t keep the derision out of his voice.

Matchmakers might be a part of Delta Crescent and dated back to their founding, but that was like saying the fortunetellers in the quarter were the only way to get a bead on what was coming down the pike. They had enough voodoo in the pack.

“Only a fool asks an outsider for assistance in finding who is meant for them. Now, Christopher and Rachel would’ve found each other eventually. They just needed to be patient. Besides, the matchmaker still has to identify the scent and then see if she can match it to another wolf. It’s only one factor and a gamble at that. You can’t tell who your mate is going to be until you get to know them. None of it is fait accompli.”

“So, you think the matchmaker is what? A jester for the pack? A false hope to those around her?”

“I think she’s just like any other curiosity in New Orleans. Here to please the tourists.”

“Well, that’s utterly fascinating, Mr. Ferrar. Thank you for your insight.”

“Lesley-Anne,” Serafina called as she came to the door with Lincoln quick in close attendance. “There you are. This party is every bit as much you for you as it is for the happy couple. Get in here and dance.”

Lesley-Anne? Lesley-Anne Saucier? Hugo’s hackles rose.

The woman straightened and inclined her head toward their alpha. “I was just getting some air and a lesson on the tomfoolery of having a matchmaker in the pack from Mr. Ferrar here.”

Oh shit.

“He’s been quite illuminating on how utterly touristy my talents are. Isn’t it fascinating?” She turned and met his gaze. Amidst the laughter in her eyes, he glimpsed a hint of hurt and his wolf snarled. “It’s been fascinating talking to you Mr. Ferrar. Good evening.” With that, she whirled then stalked away, her skirt flowing behind her. She paused to give Serafina kiss on the cheek and to receive one in return before disappearing into the rest of the party.
Heather Long. His Moonstruck Wolf: Wolves of Willow Bend 9.5 (Kindle Locations 288-311). Heather Long.

Hugo will have to do more than just apologize for putting his foot in his mouth if he is to claim his mate.

Sweet, snarky, fun and sizzling hot. You won’t want to put this one down.

Kiss of Her Dragon
Dragon Guard #18
Julia Mills
Winter Blog BlurbSm

Dragon kisses, bear hugs and evil wizards…Valentine’s Day should come with hazard pay.

Winter Blog ReviewSm

The Dragon Guard Brannoc has known Annie is his mate from the moment he rescued her from the the O’Baoill’s dungeon. Now they have been destroyed, he has to read through all the unspeakable tortures so they would know how to better help such victims.

Taking a break he sees a bear near the tree line outside the cabin. All the bear had to say was that she was Annie’s sister Tabitha and Annie needs him for him to follows willingly.

What he finds is a male bear trying to get to his mate who is in heat. A favorite scene is after he dispenses with the bear and he claims his mate.

He had to give her props for fully committing to avoiding his questions, but Brannoc wasn’t about to be deterred. Crossing his arms over his chest, the Guardsman narrowed his gaze, raised a single eyebrow, and with a low growl warned, “Annie…”

Her eyes opened wide, her jaw dropped, and his little bear stood staring. Sure that he had her complete attention, Brannoc spoke in a low, even tone as he asked, “Are the males of your sloth planning to take you by force? Will they be coming back in greater numbers anytime soon?” He cleared his throat, amazed his independent mate was still being silent and added, unable to keep the growl from his tone, “Yes, Tabitha came to get me and thank the Heavens that she did.”

His last comment lit the fuse on the powder keg of his explosive mate’s ire, just as he’d been sure it would. Annie’s expression changed to one of adamant disbelief. She huffed and mumbled under her breath about pain in the ass dragons and meddling family members before finally looking up at him and spitting, “What? You think I can’t take care of myself? You think I’m a damsel in distress and need a big bad dragon to come save the day? Is that it, Brannoc?” She stepped forward, planted one fist on her hip while the other continued to hold her sheet in place, and demanded, “Well, is it? Is it?”

She didn’t give him time to answer before spinning around and beginning to pace. “That’s the problem with men… they think because we have boobs, we can’t think. Like it takes extra brain power to carry these,” she motioned to her chest, “around. Or that their penis came with extra IQ points. Oh, you let us take care of our homes and your children. Cook your meals and wash your dirty underwear, but when it comes to protecting hearth and home, you think we somehow fall short.”

Stopping beside the bed, Annie blew her hair out of her face, glared at him and with a look of utter defiance, growled through gritted teeth, “Well, you are sorely mistaken and if that is the kind of woman you are looking for then I suggest you pull those fancy wings outta your ass and fly back where you came from because I’m Annalissa Olivia O’Bairne, the next Matriarch of the Golden Bear Sloth and Keeper of the Magic of the Ancients and I, Mr. Dragon Guardsman, can take care of myself.”

The flush on her cheeks, the conviction in her voice, and the unwavering strength he felt pouring off her was the sexiest thing Brannoc had ever seen. Gone was the poor, broken, timid shifter who’d been kidnapped and abused. His Annie was now a force to be reckoned with. She was formidable and unbending in her beliefs. A true match for him in every way.
Julia Mills. Kiss-of-Her-Dragon-ARC (Kindle Locations 333-353). Julia Mills.

Annie hits Brannoc with some hard truths, one of which is that she is the future Matriarch of her bear sloth.Yes, the male bears came and a challenge gets issued. Not an ideal way to begin a mating. We have the male bears, the dragons, and wizards. Not good wizards by a long shot.

This is a story of love and trust between mates with plenty of heat in more ways than one.

MOVING TO LOVE
Rolling Thunder
By
PJ Fiala
Iraq veteran Jeremiah “Dog” Sheppard is looking forward to the annual Veterans Ride, but this year he might be rewarded with more than the usual satisfaction of doing a good deed when he asks the stunning single mother of one of his employees to help with the charity event.
review-fall-sm

Jocelyn “Joci” James is  a free lance Marketing and web/graphics designer. With that in mind her son Gunner invites her to the Veteran’s Ride planning session at Rolling Thunder Motorcycles. He knew his Mom could come up with some great stuff to not only make the Ride more successful the next time but also for the shop itself.

Jerimiah “Dog” Sheppard an Iraq Veteran, owner of Rolling Thunder Motorcycles and Gunner’s Boss, sponsors the Veteran’s Ride every year. The proceeds go to aid local veterans. When he first meets Joci, he knows immediately she was something special and makes a point of getting to know her as they make changes to both his shop and the Ride.

Joci is immediately taken with Dog, he is tall, muscular and incredibly handsome and she almost forgot what she was there for as her son introduced them. As they sat down to get to the business at hand, the last of Dog’s employees LuAnn makes her appearance, flaunting her assets. To say she was not pleased at Joci’s presence would be an understatement at best.

Joci almost immediately proposes a logo for the shop. A necessity to boost recognition for business. Dog loves it and so does most everyone else. LuAnn thinks it’s stupid and doesn’t think he needs it. After the meeting Joci follows him to his office to get one of his cards and when he asked declined the offer of dinner.

A pissed off LuAnn confronts her as she is leaving. Making the claim that Dog is hers and she’s the only one who knows what he needs.  That he asked her out if he is indeed involved with LuAnn doesn’t set well with her at all.

This is only the beginning of the trouble LuAnn brews trying to keep Joci and Dog apart.

While neither of the main characters has been married, they both have adult children. Joci’s son Gunner works at the shop as do Dog’s twin son’s Ryder and JT. As they all work together to bring about a successful ride, a relationship begins between Joci and Dog, even though they haven’t gone on an actual date.

It’s right before the run that things heat up for them and when I say heat up I mean they start sizzling and really don’t stop.

Of course no relationship is without pitfall and this one has some of the worst. We have exes, friends of LuAnn and LuAnn herself all making this extremely trying.

I only had an issue with unrealistic recovery timelines for some medical things that come up. Other than that I loved the dynamic between all the major characters. I look forward to reading the next in this series.

GABE
Alvarez Security
By
Maryann Jordan
Gabe Malloy, former Green Beret, now special investigator stumbled across a beautiful woman in an alley. The chance meeting quickly grew into a mission as Jennifer Lambert was threatened. Letting him into her complicated life, she took a chance on him.
review-fall-sm

Gabe gets the surprise of his life while on a break from his bodyguard duties to actress Alicia Morgenstern. What he thought was a dumpster diving child was instead a beautiful young woman.

Jennifer is looking for a box to put the leftover unused bread and food from the kitchen of the hotel in. The manager donates to her center for the elderly. She never expected to meet a blond haired giant who suddenly has a movie star hanging all over him.

Star-struck and not by Alicia, Gabe makes it his personal mission to find the lovely young woman he startled in the alley. What he finds pleases him and he knows he has finally met the woman he is meant to be with, but he has to convince her of it.

Jennifer is a social worker whose focus is on the elderly. She lives with her little brother at the center she obtained the grants for. Grants that included a 5 year lease. She wasn’t looking for love but she found it anyway.

I love these two together and unbeknownst to either of them the Center has caught the eye of a real estate mogul who doesn’t like to fail and the excitement begins. Lots of sizzling hot sex, family fun and older veterans make this a wonderful read.

ROCCO AND MANDY
A Red Team Wedding Novella
By
Elaine Levine
The past is more real than the present in covert operative Rocco Silas’ broken mind. His girlfriend’s pregnancy should be a joyful event, but it’s more like a nightmare…one he believes can only end one way.
review-fall-sm

Rocco is a broken man, suffering with extreme PTSD with suicidal thoughts even as he tries to put on a normal face to the rest of the world. The things that led him to this dark place in his mind were brought on by being deep undercover in a war torn land.

Mandy his pregnant girlfriend and his band of brothers see through his façade and try to get him the help he needs. When Mandy makes the decision to leave him it breaks her heart and Rocco hits bottom.

As with many healing processes the bottom is a turning point that can go either way. In this case fortunately things go the right way both for Rocco and the abused horse Kitano. While a happily ever after rarely happens as quickly as it does in this story, the journey and the revelations to get there run true.

It was hard reading this story in the beginning. It is an extremely emotional read and one with many tears for the reader. I haven’t yet read the rest of this series and Elaine Levine is a new author to me. So I now have the books on my TBR pile to get to know each of the characters I just met more in depth and prepare for the books I know have to be coming.

ENFORCER
Enforcer Series
By
Ryleigh Rhodes
Small town Texan Claire enlisted in the Marine Corps, survived an IED in Iraq, went through rigorous physical therapy, and made it through med school. Now, after the loss of her beloved husband, she’s struggling to rebuild her life and raise their twins. Her friends rally around, but it’s up to Claire to pick up the pieces, open herself up to love, and truly live once again.
review-fall-sm

Holy Hell! It’s bad enough being pregnant with twins, with your husband deployed and you roped into a celebrity charity golf thing in ungodly heat. But for the Class A dressed military to show up there with the news your husband was KIA, unconscionable.

Fortunately Claire’s husband’s friends Q and Pohl were there caddying. As well as Kristen one of the Football celebs wives, who is also pregnant. She calls her husband Jack who had Q caddying for him and the two of them get the situation under control.

Claire’s life remains hectic as she manages her twins and her residency and finally has her MD as an alternative oncologist. Jack and Kristen have become family to her and as such Jack’s cousin Clay takes more than a passing interest in her.

When her townhome burns to the ground, she moves in with Jack and Kristen. Only to find herself spending more and more time with Clay.

I loved the way this romance developed slowly over time. As well as some of the back stories that come out for both of them. Sizzling hot when they do get together although he does get a bit pushy about her moving in. Twins, dogs and friends antics made this a fun read. This is another series I will be reading from beginning to end.

review-fall-sm

This book jumps right in with Brody kidnapping Kate. His plan, exchange Kate for his friend and partner AJ then get her out too. Unfortunately fate has other ideas, and Kate and AJ are both imprisoned and an injured Brody is left trying to find a way out for them.

I don’t know who I feel sorry for more AJ, Kate or Brody. Every time someone gets free, someone else manages to get them again. Always with Brody on the outside.

As this story unfolds, there is more than meets the eye with this cartel leader and his minions. There are more powerful and far more dangerous things at risk.

And Bonus Story
WHEN YOU RETURN TO ME
Broslin Creek
By
Dana Marton
Maggie O’Connor thought she lost everything when she lost her true love, Cameron Gardner, four years
review-fall-sm

Maggie lives next door to her fiancé and true love’s grandfather. He likes to shoot turkeys from his bathroom window and sometimes scares the living daylights out of her. He can’t see very well and the one thing they have in common is the loss of Cameron four years ago.

As she defrosts and cooks a large rooster to convince the man he has killed his own dinner, she fields a call from a friend Zak, he wants her to go out with him.

Maggie doesn’t believe that what they buried was her Cam. She still hears his voice on the wind and in her heart and cannot give up hope.

Short and somewhat predictable, this is a light-hearted read. I think I might have enjoyed it more had I read the rest of this series.

Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author

I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I “cut my romance teeth” on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma’s Home was created.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.

I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.

When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

I love to hear from readers.
