When the spirit fever struck a town, a village or an outpost, it left few if any survivors. The white man blamed the Indian saying they used their mojo on them. The Indians blamed the white man for angering the spirits. The survivors knew it didn’t matter. The Fevered were forever changed.

A gift he needs to tame…

Kid feels what the world around him feels, he is a raw, bleeding nerve, and he can’t control the pain anymore. After lashing out at everyone he loves, he agrees to an exile atop Quanto’s mountain to learn to control the power he wields. Desperate to end it, Kid battles with Wyatt the eldest Morning Star—hoping against hope that the man will kill him. He longs only for peace…

A gift she wants to harness…

Evelyn Lang grew up with a territorial judge for a father, and a secret—her father’s Fevered ability passed to her. When he’s killed in broad daylight in a little town in Kansas after freeing a slave, Lang is no longer bound by her father’s oath to never use her ability—now she must train it. She travels across hostile territory in search of the man who trained her father. She longs only for vengeance…

Tempestuous passions, opposing needs, and impulsive decisions divide them…

Conflicting goals put Kid and Evelyn in direct opposition. Her hunger for justice cuts him, but Quanto refuses his requests to train alone. Forced to train together, they must confront their deepest fears if they are ever to achieve their greatest desire….

His pain. Her obsession. Their battle.

Summer My Review

As this family saga continues, Kid travels to the mountain home of Quanto with Wyatt. He really wants Wyatt to kill him to end his suffering, but Wyatt instead helps him to see his inner self and in a strange way a bond of friendship forms. None of these gifts are easy to manage and under the tutelage of Quanto he begins to gain control in a healthier manner than he used previously. As he struggles and starts to make progress, he also feels a need to get away so he saddles up to take a sojourn to a town and maybe find a willing woman. Instead he finds an injured woman, a dead wild cat and a horse from the Flying K ranch. Oh and Wyatt comes in pursuit.

Evelyn has come to the mountain to learn to control her gift, she needs control to get revenge. She needs to find and kill the men who murdered her father. Before giving her an answer as to whether he would help her, Quanto orders her to bathe, and assigns Kid to watch over her. This is one of my favorite scenes.
A splash of water echoed in the chamber. Had she shrugged? Had her breasts lifted out of the steaming water? Were her nipples hard? Would he die from his balls swelling so uncomfortably? “I’m sorry, I think I’m more tired than I thought I was…”

He almost turned at the weariness in her voice. “Do you need help?”

“No, not yet, I don’t think.”

Oh hell, that means she might need me to walk over there and help her get out of the water…

“Okay. You can call me William. I promise I’ll try to answer.”

She laughed, a quick, fierce little sound and as beautiful as she. “You’re humoring me.”

“No ma’am, I just think you should focus on not drowning and not worry so much about my name. It’s just a name.”

Another laugh and even the images of gelding weren’t helping. If she didn’t finish soon and get dressed, he might have to go throw himself in the snow. Or shoot himself in the leg.

“Well, I think William is a fine name.”

It sure as hell sounded fine when she said it. “Thank you, ma’am.”

“You can call me Evelyn, if you like.” She exhaled a long breath and continued before he could respond. “This feels good, but it’s making me sleepy. I’m going to climb out— Wyatt said there were clothes out here.”

Oh. Clothes. He swallowed and glanced to his right to the cupboard. He’d have to pick them out and walk them over to her. Side stepping stiffly, he pulled open the cabinet doors and glanced at the contents. Scarlett’s clothes were at the top as were some dry bathing sheets. He pulled out two of the heavier ones and a couple of shirts, a pair of britches…

Undergarments.

His mouth went dry and he grabbed a handful without looking at them.

“Carrying them back to you.” He backed up. It was only five steps from the cabinet to the first pool. The sound of water cascading tortured him, but he held out the toweling sheets first. Her damp fingers brushed his hand as she took them. The caress lit him up.

“Thank you.” Cloth rasped over skin and he stayed right where he was, drilling holes into the walls with his gaze. “Clothing?”

He held it out blindly and she took the stacks. Praying she could manage all of it, he remained in place. More rasping of fabric, and then a tired sigh.

“Done.”

Daring a glance sideways, he was prepared to jerk his gaze away if she hadn’t meant done, done, but she was dressed and looked deliciously bedraggled with her long blond hair hanging damply around her face. Even the fatigue smudging her eyes didn’t diminish her beauty. “Can you walk back? Or would you like me to carry you?” And he honestly didn’t know which answer he preferred to hear.
Long, Heather. Raising Kane (Fevered Hearts #5) (pp. 177-179). . Kindle Edition.

Quanto demands they train together and their protests go unanswered as they undergo the training. Evelyn and Kid do some dancing of their own and I truly enjoyed every minute of Kid’s not pursuit. When Evelyn uses Mariska’s trick causing all of them to sleep deeply so she could follow her own agenda, I knew Kid would follow.

The Kanes and the fevered all contribute in one way or another to this story. Passion flares hotly and new dangerous gifts appear within the ranks of the fevered children. I can’t stop reading this series, each book draws me deeper into the conflicts and the stories of each character.

Summer My Review

In this the prequel to the Boomers series, we meet our primary characters in an interesting manner. Michael Hunter has a mission. A mission to kill Aurora Graystone. When the time comes this hunter who never, ever misses does miss his target.Rory knows she’s being followed, she plans to corner and capture said stalker. That said, when he shoots at her all bets are off and they end up fighting and well… more, on the rooftop where he is packing up. This is a favorite scene.

“Done?” He touched his lips to her ear, stealing the smallest taste of her flesh. Her tender skin tasted of schnapps and cool malt, both decadent and sweet.

“Nope.”

He barely had time to register the word when her head snapped hard to the right, slamming into his nose. Stars spiraled across his vision, dizzying pain dousing the savage need clawing inside his skin. Her palms struck down, breaking his hold and she twisted, her hand closing over his erection, fisting it tight as they landed against the rooftop.

“Now, who are you again?” she asked, the whisper of her words tantalizing him. He could smell the hint of coffee on her breath. For some strange reason, he was glad she’d at least gotten a swallow of the drink she worshipped. He fought the urge of his hips to buck into her grip. She needed only twist and he would be racked with masculine agony.

Despite the inherent danger, he couldn’t ignore the blue-violent eyes searching his or the sweet, voluptuous lips hovering deliciously near his face. The corona of sunlight turned her blue-black hair into liquid velvet. Her body pressed into his, a tender, feather-soft weight composed of sensuous lines, lovingly curved.

A damn near perfect fit to his larger, broader frame.

Perfect.

Too perfect.

Her fist tightened, reminding him of the precarious position of his manhood, but his cock merely flexed, enjoying the attention.

“I’m waiting.” Her voice was low.

So am I.

He didn’t know who was more startled when his hands came up to her hair and yanked that sexy, little mouth to his. He brought up his knees, clamping her hips and locking her to his body. Her lips were soft, softer than he imagined. He slanted his head, inhaling her breath.

He expected a protest, but a tiny slip of her tongue against the hard line of his mouth had him opening fully, meeting her tongue with a strike of his own. He sampled her sweetness, the faintly bitter Arabica, the teasing suggestion of minty toothpaste and just a dash of cinnamon from the sticky buns he’d scented on any number of corners throughout the city.

Her fingers tightened on his cock, spiking pleasure not pain as she stroked him through the trousers. The rooftop faded under the enticement of her lips. He released her mouth for a breath and saw the confusion clouding her eyes, but greedy for another taste of her mouth he refused to answer it. He tugged her hair, pulling her back to him. She stiffened, her upper body arching as her mouth turned into a silent O.
Yesterday’s Heroes (Kindle Locations 215-236). Carina Press. Kindle Edition.

Unfortunately, Garrett, one of the other Boomers shot her with a poison. All hell breaks loose as Michael threatens his team mate and friend in order to save Rory’s life.

All Michael can think about is Rory and how much he desires her and needs to protect her. From everyone except himself. All of which goes against the initial mission, to kill her in order to draw her father, the elusive Hans Geiger, out of hiding.

An intrigue weave of events as we meet all of the Boomers, learning about where they are from, their missions and the chips they have implanted. We also meet the rest of Rory’s team although not in the most favorable way. All of this centered on the passionate relationship blooming between Michael and Rory.

Summer Exerpt

He sat silently. She forced herself to eat three bites of the salmon in quick succession, followed by a forkful of the steamed spinach and grilled zucchini. Her lack of appetite did not do the meal justice, but her audience forced her to play the part. Their air of civility wore on her. She’d rather be curled up, snacking on her dinner in bed and watching the latest movies she’d missed thanks to the whirlwind schedule she’d been maintaining.

But, no. She sat at a table with a perfectly respectable, smoking-hot- should-be- licked- often stranger. Damn her father.

Hell, if her father hadn’t sent him, she could have indulged in one of those carnal impulses which used to land her in the scandal rags during her university years. When the heat in her body continued to spread, warming her cheeks and breasts, she reached for the wine again. Maybe a glass or three would knock the temperature off her libido.

“You seem very relaxed, considering our present circumstances.” He sounded almost curious.

“I’m used to it.” She sighed and ran her tongue along her teeth, hoping no bits of veggie were embarrassing her. “Unfortunately.”

“Well, if you’re used to it, maybe you should consider a change in careers.” The odd comment, coupled with his pursed lips, dragged her attention away from her raging hormones to stare at him again. He watched her with no attempt to disguise the shrewd predator in his eyes. A fresh wave of awareness rolled over her.

He wasn’t any ordinary businessman, and his attempts at vanilla engagement, from his relaxed dress to his mannerisms, couldn’t disguise the difference anymore. Something far more dangerous than an unwanted matchmaking attempt lurked in his gaze.

Intrigue and wariness clashed inside.

“Why would I change careers? I’m destined to inherit the entire organization. I have to know how it works from top to bottom. Or are you one of those men who thinks marrying me will be your key to the executive office, and I’ll be at home hosting tea while popping out the requisite heirs?”

Jarod tugged his ear and set his utensils down. “Kit Kat, what the hell are you talking about?”

“My father, Mr. Parker. And stop calling me by that horrid nickname.” Irritation rose to the top of her desire and flamed. “I asked you to call me Katherine.”

“No. You told me to. I prefer Kit Kat. It suits your mercurial moods. What does your father have to do with my being on this plane?”

“Everything.” She leaned forward. “Miles told me Daddy sent you to the meeting and here. I am used to my father’s matchmaking—although he’s generally a great deal subtler than this. I suppose my birthday last month and the engagements of several of his associates’ children has him thinking.”

“Miles told you I’m here as a—”

“Seriously, Mr. Parker? A stud service. Yes, my father sent you to stand stud for his recalcitrant princess who will not settle down. Granted, you’re an exceptionally fine specimen, but I have no desire to wear the reins which undoubtedly go with your promising physique.”

Jarod’s mouth opened briefly then snapped shut. To her amazement—and ire—he started to laugh.

“What’s so funny?”

“You’re not mad your father might have sent me, Kit Kat. You’re mad you wanted me, and now you think you can’t have me.”

Summer My Review

You shouldn’t be surprised that I am reviewing this so quickly. After all I did stay up late to finish up book 1 and start this one. We met all our main characters in Marshal of Hel Dorado, so now we get to know another couple of them up close and personal.

After Scarlett and Sam’s wedding, Kid the youngest of the Kane siblings sneaks off. Frustrated with his father’s expectations and his lack of meeting them, he rides off heading west and just away. Another wedding guest is planning to run as well, although not for the sake of getting away. Cody is a wolf shifter, that is his gift/curse. His wolf had decided a long time ago that Scarlett was his mate, but that wasn’t a mutual thing between Cody and his wolf. Cody loves Scarlett as his sister and nothing more, now she is happily married to Sam. His wolf is mourning the loss of his mate and wants to die from the rejection. As Cody sets off for the wilderness he scents Kid, and senses he needs their support, companionship or something. Kid’s need changes the path they were going to take.

Traveling through the wilderness can be a bit boring but Kid definitely livens things up for Cody. His visits into towns more often than not include more than just supplies. But the most exciting one came as Kid goes to gather supplies before they headed into the Mountain passes. This involves saving a virgin from her fate in a brothel and helping the other girl with her. This is a favorite scene.

“Well, I’ll be damned.”

“Not yet,” Cody growled. “But the night’s young.”

His whore escort pushed at the door and Kid opened it wider. Cody caught sight of one woman, nude on the bed lazy with satisfaction and stinking of Kid, and a second woman sitting huddled on the far side still dressed. She smelled of terror, not sex.

Kid followed his look and scowled. “Leave her alone. She’s terrified enough as it is.”
Biting back a scathing comment, Cody lifted his brows. “Get dressed.”

“Fine, but we need to take her with us.”

“What?” Cody’s wasn’t the only one to give voice to that question. The girl that had to be Delilah went pale. Kid jerked away from him and did the damndest thing, bare ass naked, his cock hanging damp and used between his thighs, he walked over to kneel in front of the woman.

The whore on the bed and Cody’s escort turned, like little moths following a candle, to watch him. Kid gathered Delilah’s hands in his, careful to keep his nude body from touching her anywhere else.

Though his voice was pitched low, Cody had no trouble hearing him. The violence below was escalating, bottles smashed, tables were being overturned and the steady thump of fist on flesh. Across the hall, a door opened but Cody shook his head at the woman peeking out and she shut the door quickly.

“Delilah,” Kid’s low voice was smooth, silky and relaxed. “You don’t belong here. You don’t want to trade yourself for gold and you don’t have to. Let me help you. I can send you somewhere you can be safe.”

Was the Kane boy serious? Cody sighed, but the wolf’s rage seemed to quiet under Kid’s words. Delilah relaxed, color flushing her pale cheeks.

“I promise you, no one will touch you. I’ll get you out of here and you’ll be safe. You can start fresh, no questions.”

A clomp on the stairs jolted Cody into the room. He shut the door and glared at Kid. Whatever spell he was working on the girl worked because she was nodding her head. Kid rose and grabbed his clothes.

“How many are coming?” That question he threw at Cody.

“Three, maybe more. Some trapper wants her virginity and since it’s still intact and you just told her it would stay that way, we’re going to have to get her out without being seen.”

“We can do that.” The whore on the bed scooted off and grabbed her own clothes. She dressed faster than Kid did. “Simone, can you hold them off?”

As fast as the first whore dressed, Simone shrugged off her own clothes. “Yes.”

Nudity wasn’t something that fascinated Cody, but the shucking of clothes on and off verged on the absurd. Until ‘Simone’ pointed at him.

“Strip.”

“Excuse me?” The wolf rallied at the command.

“She wants them to think you two have the room,” Kid explained jerking on his boots, before securing his gun belt.

“I’m not fucking her.” Cody spit the words out.

“You’re damn right you’re not fucking me,” Simone snapped back. “You haven’t paid for it, but you have to have some clothes off or it won’t work.”

Cody scowled.

“Cody,” Kid stepped between him and the lean built whore with her too small breasts and their erect little nipples. She stank of another man. It had been bad enough that she rubbed that stench on him in the first place, now they wanted him to get naked with her.

Show or no show, he’d rather go join the brawl.

“Please. Help me help the girl.” The request cooled the anger raging in the wolf. He looked at the terrified girl with her exotically dark eyes and thick black hair. She was innocent. She smelled of female. Hurt, scared and lonely female.

The wolf relented.
Brave Are the Lonely (Fevered Hearts #2) (pp. 40-41).Kindle Edition.

Those ladies are sent escorted to Dorado and the boys travel onward toward California. Then our tale takes a major turn as we meet our leading lady, a dark haired gypsy named Mariska, now Cody and his wolf will have some major decisions to make. We also get our first real look at the elusive Wyatt the eldest of the fevered.

This is in no way your typical Western romance. I laughed, I cried and breathed more than one sigh of relief. Once again I stayed up way past my bedtime and started the next book in the series Micah and Mrs. Miller.

Summer My Review

I don’t know what I was expecting when I picked up this book. I figured a historical western romance. Boy was I wrong and in a very good way!

Heather Long has incorporated the old west with her own unique flare. In this first book of the series we meet the players from the very beginning. By that I mean the original onset of the fever and how those survivors came to be. The interesting fact here is that each of these survivors has a gift or a curse depending on your point of view.

A gang has been robbing banks of gold, gold belonging to the US Army. Marshal Sam Kane is watching the bank from the shadows, his brother, the one they call Kid, is in Sam’s usual spot relaxing as Sam would. This gang would not get away with his town’s gold.

Nothing more than a couple of flashes inside the bank gives away that someone is in the bank. Now the fun begins, as Sam takes into custody a beautiful red-haired thief while the rest of the gang escapes with the gold.

Here is a favorite passage as Kane takes Scarlett to his family’s ranch for her protection. One that had me giggling.
“You should sleep,” Sam said, surprised at the gruff note in his voice. They’d been riding for nearly an hour and it would take at least four more to reach the ranch. The ranch was twenty miles as the crow flew from the town it helped to foster into existence. The Kanes controlled nearly three thousand acres and they’d be on Kane land within the hour, but the bunkhouses, corrals and main house were some distance beyond that.

It was a two hour flat out ride, but nestled in the deep bosom of night, he’d keep Corona’s pace to an easy loping walk avoiding pitfalls, stones and exhaustion. The night was a cool blanket, with a northern breeze ruffling along his neck, occasionally stirring a red lock up to tease his nose.

She smelled of sunshine, horses and something distinctly feminine, without the overwhelming lemon verbena favored by the town girls or the eucalyptus and horse lineament that ranch women often reminded him of. The feminine scent was sweet cakes and fresh baked bread rolled into one.

“This isn’t the most comfortable way to sleep.” The low hushed response prickled with irritation and just the barest hint of entitlement.

“It’s the best we can do for now, unless you think sleeping at the end of a noose is more to your liking.”

“Could you at least move your gun?” The complaint was more plaintive than vitriolic. “It keeps jabbing me in the back.”

He was glad for the darkness, for it shielded the heat that ruddied his face. That wasn’t his gun. He shifted in the saddle, easing her forward and then back so her bottom nestled on his opposite thigh. She let out a sigh of relief, her body softening and settling against him. The new position teased him with even more of her scent, but kept that sweet bottom from rubbing on his arousal.

He was male and she was definitely attractive, but she was a thief. He tried to tell his body that, but it didn’t care. It was more interested in the soft curves, sweet fresh scent and the little soft sighs she kept making.

“Better?” It went against his nature to ask, but he liked the sound of her voice.
“Yes. Thank you.”

“If you don’t want to sleep. You could answer some questions.” Where the hell had that come from? He’d just wanted her to go to sleep so he could stop tormenting himself and now he wanted to add to his own tension.

Corona nickered and he forced his legs to relax. He didn’t need to accidentally urge the mare into a faster speed. The loping walk kept rubbing his prisoner against him as it was.

She was silent for so long, he wondered if she had fallen asleep. They were leaving the main trailhead, Corona picking her way across the rocks to the downward track that wound through the hills. He knew the moment they crossed onto Kane land.

He always did.

The pressure on his chest lightened, his lungs expanded and even the air tasted sweeter. He took a deep lungful, but it wasn’t just Kane cedar and sage that teased him, but the rich scent of summer raspberries.

“It would depend on the question.” She wasn’t going to make this easy for him. Oddly, that pleased him more than cooperation. He liked the independent fire that blazed in her eyes, the warning snap in her gaze and the temper that sparked when Ryker and his boys burst into the Marshal’s Office. He’d watched her watching them.

It hadn’t been fear clenching her fists.

His little redhead was a fighter.
Marshal of Hel Dorado (Fevered Hearts #1) (pp. 27-30).Kindle Edition.

This couple have much to overcome. The main one being the robbery and the threat of hanging. But also her brothers and his have some interesting conflicts. A page turning read that so engrossed me I stayed up way past my bedtime and then started the next book in the series.

HEARTBREAKERS AND HEROES Box Set
HIDING WITH THE HEARTBREAKER
by USA Today bestseller
Virginia Nelson

Rule: Protect the innocent.
Making people laugh for a living is easy, but when a beautiful stranger needs Aloysius Sutton’s help, he has to find a way to become Jude’s hero.

Excerpt:

“When they found you and Mr. Braunberger, you were with the victim,” said the female officer.

“Yes, I ran to his side when I thought he might have been hurt.”

The woman nodded. “I see. Yet you didn’t make a sound or call the police or 911 at that point?”

Shaking her head, Jude twirled her ring. “No, because I wasn’t sure what I saw.”

“I see,” said the woman, jotting something down. Another officer entered the room and whispered something to the male officer.

“Miss Cramer, is it true that you exchanged heated words with Mr. Braunberger earlier today?” he asked.

Spinning the laptop to face her, he played back the security footage of her and Braunberger talking earlier that day. It looked incriminating. But she hadn’t done anything. Surely…

“I’d like to speak to an attorney, please,” she said.

HER UNWANTED HERO
by
Veronica Forand

Rule: A real man always helps someone in need… he may be the only one who does.
A disenchanted police officer must choose between keeping a woman’s affection or keeping her alive.

Excerpt:

“If you need anything, holler.”

Holler? He needed to stop acting like she was a contagious disease and make a move.

“Hey,” she hollered.

That got his attention. “Are you okay?”

She smothered her laughter. “I need something.”

“Anything.” He looked like he meant it too. He’d probably run out for ice cream if she asked. Men could be so dense.

“Rocky Road ice cream.” His brows furrowed. Was he thinking of the logistics of buying dessert at one in the morning? Seriously? “Umm. Sure. I think I can go to the 7-11.”

“That would take too long. What about if I just take you instead?”

A flash of hesitation crossed his expression and then he stood. “Me?”

“Yeah. Ice cream would be a bit more satisfying, but I figure you’d do.”

He remained welded to the floor in front of the couch.

Self-doubt crawled back into her conscience. She’d taken a chance and lost. No harm, no foul. “Never mind.”

She retreated toward her bedroom. By the third stair, his hand rested on her hip, causing her to stop and turn.

ONCE A HEARTBREAKER
by
T.J. Kline

Rule: A real man never lies, especially to a woman.
Ty Preston ran out on the woman he loved twelve years ago, but now he’s back to prove he’s a changed man. However, Rayne can’t risk getting her heart broken by the cowboy again.

Excerpt:
He was so close she could feel his warm breath against her ear and, in spite of how much she wanted to hate him, she leaned back against into him, letting his strength support her, like she always had. Ty had been her rock from the day they’d met. It was instinct for her body to crave his touch, but she knew she had to fight it. His lips brushed the shell of her ear, and a shiver of longing raced down her spine. “I left Saddle Creek for you, Rayne, but I’ve come back for the same reason. I lied when I left. I loved you then, Rayne.” His voice was husky with emotion, making her entire body quiver from the inside. “I’ve never stopped loving you.”

HOMETOWN HEARTBREAKER
by
Heather Long

Rule: A real man always puts his best foot forward…
Zeke always planned to steal her heart, but she left him on base. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and Charity is up to bat. Can she tell her two-all stars the truth or will a foul end her best chance?

Excerpt:

Surprise flickered in his blue eyes, and she dropped her gaze to study his very kissable mouth. On that thought, she pushed out of the chair and he let his hand fall away. For a moment, hurt turned down the corners of his mouth and fresh regret stung her. She hadn’t meant to react so badly.

Catching his hand before he could walk away, she searched for the buoyant mood she’d had earlier. “I’m sorry. Maybe I am tired. I didn’t mean to snap. The coffee smells good…care to have a cup and watch me eat one of the cupcakes I made?” They’d been a final surprise of the day, Andie had adored hers but, based on his earlier comment regarding his diet, it hadn’t surprised Charity when he’d declined one of his own.

His tongue swiped over his lower lip. “Watch you eat a cupcake?”

Can Savannah teach serial heartbreaker Walker to be domesticated in ten days and convince him that maybe they can have a shot at a ‘them’ or can Walker convince Savannah there can be a ‘them’ on his terms only?

Excerpt:

“Savannah, I know you’re checking me out.”

“You’ll need a couple of Sherpas to climb your Mount Everest ego because I was not checking you out.”

He turned and grinned. “I don’t have an issue with you checking me out. I just wondered if you liked the view?”

As the quest for the Fortunate Buddha continues, Pietr finds himself in NY, following a lead. He has sworn he will never fall like his cousin Max, little does he know there is a fiesty Art History specialist about to rock his world.

When you have a bad day, you never expect it to get worse once you get home. Unfortunately Sophie’s did. To start her day she witnessed a murder but no one believes her. Of course there’s no body and no evidence of foul play anywhere. Then she arrives home to find a strange man (Pietr) in her living room. After a delightful (to the reader) conversation, she kicks him out but not before he gives her his card. but thinks better of it and as he requested agrees to meet him for a drink.  Selecting a close place she is comfortable in. Getting shot at there, followed immediately by a reported breakin at her apartment causes Pietr to get even more concerned and protective. This is one my favorite scenes after Lady Katherine has interrupted their 4 AM breakfast.

“What can I say? You make me want to be a bad boy. Shall I let you spank me?”

Heat speared her at the offer. She’d not let her hands drift down to where his shirt tucked into his pants, but now since he’d conjured the image, she wanted to.

“Sophie?” His voice deepened, his accent lilting the soft syllables of her name. The smile eased away from his lips, his expression sobering. “Lady Katherine and I are not now, nor have we ever, been lovers. I promise.”

Sophie stared silently, her heart popping at her ribs. Heat pooled in her stomach. He was a damn good-looking man, a fact he seemed well aware of. Charm practically swirled in the air around him. She’d liked holding him, too.

Pietr watched her, the embers of amusement dying in his eyes. “I am sorry if I offended you.” Utter sincerity coated each word, and Sophie tilted her head, considering.

“You know what I want?” She slid forward a step. Pietr went completely still, the playful schoolboy replaced by a very real, very desirable, and very gorgeous man. Sophie tipped her head back, letting some of the heat seep into her gaze. “Do you know what I really, really want?” she whispered.

“Yes?” He angled his head toward her, his gaze dropping from her eyes to her lips.

“Food.” Sophie winked and all but flounced to her chair.

“Et tu brute.” Pietr laughed. “Et tu.”
Treasure Me (Love Thieves #2) (Kindle Locations 830-857). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

All this is somehow related to her PhD. thesis research. To her it doesn’t make sense, but it does to Pietr and who ever else is looking for the Buddha.

A fun, suspenseful, keep you on your toes read. With a hot Frenchman that won’t stop trying to seduce his sexy museum worker.

Synopsis Spring Blog - Copy

Ranae is the youngest of the Buckleys, and the only girl amongst three powerful male siblings. Her restlessness and dominant nature has affected every relationship within Willow Bend, not to mention testing the patience of her Alpha. Apprenticeship to the Hunters fed her desire for a purpose. Clashing with the Alpha was the last thing she expected on the dangerous assignment.

The oldest Alpha in the U.S. packs, lives a gray existence. The loss of his mate so many decades before wears away at him, until he doesn’t give a damn about anything. The problems of the other packs are not his, and he prefers to be left to his isolation. Review Spring Blog - Copy

We first met Diesel in Bayou Wolf, he was following a scent. A scent he believed was his mate and that caused, shall I say, a bit of a stir. Now we get to see the Yukon Alpha on his own turf.

Ranae is a dominant and stubborn wolf. The little sister of the Buckley triplets, she got in big trouble in The Wolf Next Door. Because of that Mason had her apprenticing as a hunter. Now he has a real assignment for her, verify Diesel is still Alpha in the Yukon and deliver a message.

Ranae travels to the Yukon with Julian, the leader of the Enforcers. Unlike previous wolves journeys there, Ranae doesn’t end up waiting very long to meet with the elusive alpha. The reason for that is our first surprise in this book.

I did a lot of giggling at the exchanges between Diesel and Ranae. She certainly tries to be diplomatic…

Problems with the Russian wolves, leads us to more surprises and some juicy info on Julian. All while Diesel tries to claim his mate.

A favorite quote:

Snow Wolf quote

Much laughter and nail-biting throughout this intricately woven tale. Sprinkled with tears of sadness and joy plus OMG surprises. Be sure to read the excerpt, it is one of my favorite scenes in this book!

Riding the high of her nearness, Diesel leaned into the force of her hand on his chest. “I know my mate’s scent. I searched for you all over Willow Bend. Why else would Mason send you?” The moment the words left his lips, he reconsidered the phrasing. Her eyes narrowed and her nostrils flared.

“I’m a Hunter of Willow Bend. I am here to deliver a message from my Alpha—and I don’t care what century you were born in old man, but we don’t arrange matings. You don’t just get to walk in here, thump your chest and say mine.” The ferocious light in her eyes sent a quiet thrill through his bloodstream. His wolf roused to the hunt, every color and nuance sharpening under their study.

“No?” He didn’t want to miss a moment of her reaction. Her dilated pupils constricted even as her mouth tightened. Anger soured her scent and her nails bit into his muscle as he pressed into the contact. Despite a faint tremble, she didn’t shift her grip or attack him. Would she? If he provoked her enough? The idea intrigued the hell out of him. No Alpha wanted a weak mate.

“No.” She withdrew the contact then retreated one step. Crowding closer, he refused to let her abandon him. “Dude…get a grip. I came here to do a job.” A muscle in her jaw twitched. “Or maybe you are trying to prove you don’t hold the Yukon?”

Challenge wound through every syllable. Canting his head to the side, he raised one eyebrow and waited.

“What? Playing crazy, eccentric keeps the other packs at bay and allows you to dictate the terms of your interactions. You don’t want to talk; you walk away or slam a door. You want to shut me down; you declare I’m yours.” Folding her arms, Ranae raised her chin and, although the gold circle on around her gray-green irises faded, it didn’t diminish completely. “It won’t work and I’m really not interested in the games. We have serious issues to discuss with you, Alpha. You can get on board or be left behind to cope on your own should the Russian packs turn their gaze on your territory and your pack.”

Amusement curved through him. Passionate determination etched into her expression. “Our pack will be fine.”

“My pack will be, absolutely. Your pack is debatable.” The aggravation in her scent muted beneath the sting of frustration. “Now you’re baiting me.” Sidestepping him, she tried to put some distance between them. He allowed her three steps before intercepting her again. He wanted her gaze on him, nowhere else. “Seriously, you have a problem.”

“No, I have a mate, but continue telling me why our pack is in danger.”

Pausing, her lips tightened and her eyes narrowed. The curl of her fingers into a fist telegraphed her next move. Would she do it? He pressed into her space, and she rewarded his effort with fresh contact in the form of a blow. It caught him square above his heart, and the second with her elbow connected with his jaw. He accepted both blows, but refused to retreat.

“Your training is incomplete.” Whatever response she’d been expecting, his comment surprised her. “Otherwise you’d understand that two hits will not take down an enraged male, if you want to escape you have to incapacitate or kill.”

“I don’t want to fight you.”

“Wonderful. I have no desire to fight you, but if you need to beat on me to make yourself feel better, go right ahead. I’m very sturdy.”

The corner of her mouth kicked into an involuntary smile, and his breath lodged in his throat, the single glimpse of sweetness a better reward than he could have imagined. “Are you insane?”

“Depends on your definition of sanity.” The tangle of her hair contrasted with the wool of her pullover. How soft would the strands be? When she failed to respond, he reached out to test his theory. She slapped his hand away, and the sting intrigued him.

“Stop.” Command reverberated through the single syllable. “I came here as a messenger, nothing else. Keep your teeth and your hands to yourself. Am I clear?”

In all things, an Alpha could command. He could take a life. He could grant it. Wolves who pledged to an Alpha could be sent into the heart of danger and forfeit all that they owned. The heart, however, could not be commanded nor could he take what she would not willingly give.

His wolf bucked at the rejection, but Diesel withdrew three steps to give her space. Clasping his hands behind his back, he studied the beautiful Hunter before him. She would not tumble easily, nor would she accept his direct pledge. Very well, if he had to learn to court, then he would find what enticed her. “Dress,” he ordered. “Several layers. We will be leaving the guest quarters.”

Expecting obedience, he turned to the entrance and pressed the code to allow Julian entry.

“Are you staying with her or leaving?” Her presence was non-negotiable.

“Since you asked so nicely…” The Chief Enforcer’s expression barely shifted, yet a smirk echoed beneath his words. “I’d be happy to stay.”

Uninterested in the old wolf’s games, Diesel spared his mate another studying look. Ranae gaped at him, and she hadn’t moved a muscle.

“Trust me when I say it will be more comfortable if you get dressed, but if you insist on testing my patience, I’ll happily take care of stripping you first then dressing you.”

The taunt did what the order would not. She moved.

His wolf rose, stretching and raking his claws. Yes, they had the scent of this hunt.

Don’t miss the highly anticipated installment in the Wolves of Willow Bend as we travel north to one of the most secretive packs in the U.S.

Ranae is the youngest of the Buckleys and the only girl amongst three powerful male siblings. Her restlessness and dominant nature affected her every relationship within Willow Bend, not to mention testing the patience of her Alpha. Apprenticeship to the Hunters fed her desire for a purpose. When her Alpha and eldest brother ask her to undertake a mission to the Yukon territory, she’s thrilled at the opportunity to be useful. Clashing with the Alpha was the last thing she expected on the dangerous assignment.

The oldest Alpha in the U.S. packs lives a gray existence. The loss of his mate so many decades before wears away at him until he doesn’t give a damn about anything. The problems of the other packs are not his, and he prefers to be left to his isolation. The arrival of the Chief Enforcer annoys him, but it is the wolf traveling with him who wakes the predator in Diesel. The scent of mate clings to her, but she rejects his overtures and challenges him on every level.

War may be coming for the Yukon, but Diesel’s battle is very personal…

Ranae is a strong, stubborn wolf. She is in the Yukon on orders from her Alpha, a mission to obtain the status of the Alpha and to deliver a message. Escorted by Julian, it isn’t long before he his fed up and goes looking for Diesel. This is part of Ranae and Diesel’s first meeting.

Snow Wolf (Kindle Locations 435-454). Heather Long. Kindle Edition.

I spent a lot of time giggling in this book, a few tears and quite a bit of nail-biting.  A couple of OMG moments as these books are known to bring out. Between the Russians, Julian and Ranae herself, Diesel really had to work hard for this mating.

Rule: A real man always puts his best foot forward…
Zeke always planned to steal her heart, but she left him on base. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and Charity is up to bat. Can she tell her two-all stars the truth or will a foul end her best chance?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

I want to thank Heather Long for giving me her novella in this wonderful collection to review.

Zeke has no idea of the surprises awaiting him as he travels home for the first time in 8 years. He hadn’t gone before because he couldn’t bear to see the love of his life with someone else.

Charity lied all those years ago, lied so Zeke wouldn’t give up his dreams. She’d been making decisions for everyone now it’s time to come clean. The truth is going to hurt but she finds she can’t continue living the lie.

All things considered Zeke handles the declaration quite well, and as they continue to get to know each other as a family the bonds from the past surface. A favorite scene is after Charity and Andie take a day to be with Zeke and Andie is asleep.
“Adulting is hard,” she admitted.

His devastating dimple appeared as his cheeks creased. “Adulting, eh? Is that what we’re doing?”

The tension holding her captive burst, and she laughed. “Yes, it’s what we’re supposed to be doing.” After all, she’d admitted a long deception, which kept him from his child and tried to find a way to fold him into her daughter’s life. “I mean, we’ve handled everything with maturity, right?” Did she want confirmation that they were simply two parents stumbling into the direction of working together or did she want him to deny her charge and…

“Sometimes you think too much.” The drawled observation didn’t carry a tone of insult, but at the same time…

“Sometimes I don’t think everything through,” she admitted. “Like the inherent danger in kissing you.”

Nostrils flaring ever so slightly, he turned his sharp arresting gaze from her lips to her eyes. Raw passion scorched her. “What are you afraid of?”

“I think a better question would be what am I not afraid of?” Eight years ago, she would rather have melted into a puddle than admit her fears. That was then, she reminded herself. “We’re not in high school anymore, Zeke.”

“No,” he agreed, too easily. “We’re not.”

“Any attraction we’re feeling…it’s normal. We know each other so well.” Then she amended hastily. “I mean we knew each other well.”

“Yes, to both. Though I like to think we still do… You’re still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known.” The creases in his cheeks reappeared. “More beautiful now than then…and smart, determined, funny.”
Hometown Heartbreaker. Heartbreakers & Heroes (Kindle Locations 9882-9897). Kindle Edition.

There is a lot of emotion in this book, a lot of things to be said and acted upon. I truly enjoyed this sort of second chance tale.

5 Contented Purrs for Heather!

I can’t wait to read the rest of the “Rules” in this collection.
