Since the day they met Tabon ‘Razor’ Sharp and Avarie ‘Ava’ McNamara have wanted each other, things didn’t happen that first night because Razor was on duty protecting Quinn. Now it’s Quinn and Mercer’s wedding and Razor has the desire to see if the same heat is between them as it was a year ago.

That whole scenario gets shot down when he finds he is going to have to become her bodyguard. The reasons for the protection are complex from the start. First though Razor needs to convince Ava to move in with him.

This is a favorite scene.

Ava remembered Quinn saying that she’d asked Mercer once if he’d take her there, and he’d answered that he’d take her everywhere. She wondered if India would be their only stop, or would they continue traveling? No one deserved a never-ending honeymoon more than Quinn did.

“I’m going to miss you so much,” Ava said, hugging her friend tightly.

“You keep Razor on his toes,” Quinn teased. “Seriously, though, I think the two of you are well-suited,” she whispered.

Ava rolled her eyes, but secretly, she wished it were so.

“Speak of the devil,” said Quinn, winking at Ava when Tabon approached them and stood right behind her.

“Got a minute?” he whispered.

“No.” Ava walked away from him and over to the sidewalk leading to where Mercer had parked Quinn’s Porsche. She stood with the rest of the guests as they fêted the couple with rose petals on their way out.

She turned back around and saw Tabon standing off to the side, studying her.

“What do you want?” she asked. “I thought I made myself clear earlier.”

“I have an offer to make you.”

Ava rolled her eyes and walked away, but he stayed on her heels.

“Just listen. This doesn’t have anything to do with me.”

She stopped and folded her arms in that way that practically pushed her boobs right out of her dress.

He took a deep breath, willing himself to look anywhere but there. “I heard you and your sister were planning on spending a few more days in California.”

She nodded. “Pen and Tara are thinking about it too.”

“I’d like to offer you a place to stay.”

Ava laughed. “With you?”

“No, not exactly.”

“Explain yourself, then.”

Razor smiled. Damn, he liked this woman. “I have a place a couple of hours up the coast, in Cambria. It’s near where Doc’s family lives.”

Ava rolled her eyes.

“Wait,” he said, holding up his hand. “Hear me out. It’s a duplex. Each side sleeps six, although two of you would have to share a bedroom since there are only three.”

“Where would you be?”

“On the other side.”

“Why what?”

“Why are you doing this?”

Razor stepped forward, close enough to tuck an errant strand of hair behind her ear. “Because I want another chance with you.”

“Ah, so there are strings.”

“Absolutely not. I just want to get to know you better, Ava.”

She shook her head. “I’m not interested.”

He cupped her face with his palm. “Please.”

“Don’t do this to me,” she said, shaking her head again.

Razor kissed her forehead. “Please,” he murmured again.

He saw her eyes were closed, and felt her lean into him.

“I need to talk to the girls.”

“Where are they?”

“They went back to the cottage to change.”

“I’ll walk you there,” he said, taking her hand in his.

Ava stopped walking. “Tabon?”

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“Is this just a game to you?”

He put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to him. “No, it isn’t. I can’t forget you, Ava, and believe me, I’ve tried.”

“What if I don’t feel the same way about you?”

Razor smiled. “My heart will be broken, broken, but I’ll live. And in the meantime, I’ll get to spend some time getting to know the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.”

Ava rolled her eyes. “For now, I’ll consider your offer and talk it over with my sister and our friends. But don’t push it, Tabon.”

He kissed her hand. “I’ll be waiting to hear from you. I’m in Cottage Fourteen.”

Now there’s something Ava can do that will become very disconcerting to Razor. She can tell when he’s lying, and she really hates when he keeps things from her. The way he knows she’s mad at him is she calls him Razor instead of Tabon.

I loved meeting Razor’s family and more of the guys, some not yet K19 but will be offered spots. It also looks like Razor’s sister has her eye on one of them. Oh and the whales, lots of whales visible from his home on the Oregon coast.

Intrigue, suspense and drama as things heat up in the case that Ava is a witness in. Razor breaks a lot of rules when it comes to Ava because he is in love with her.

Hold your breath action, tears, laughter, romance and sizzle will have you turning the pages to see what happens next.

Dutch – K19 Security Solutions Book 5 by Heather Slade

K19 Security Solutions Book 5
Heather Slade

He killed her only chance for answers.
She’ll do anything to uncover the truth.

K19 Security Solutions partner Dutch Miller always takes down the enemy. But when he shoots and kills a Russian assassin holding a gun to CIA Special Agent Malin Kilbourne’s head, Dutch single-handedly ruins Malin’s top-secret mission.

Intending only to protect her, Dutch whisks Malin off to a private island. All he wants is for her to trust him with the truth, but the details of her mission just don’t add up.

Malin’s trust in Dutch died when he broke her heart. But she realizes he is her only hope at exposing the CIA without getting herself killed. Can she protect her heart and her country without losing it all?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Again I am starting a series with the latest book instead of the first, but I did find I recognized a couple of folks from Shiver, the first book in Heather’s Military Intelligence Section 6 series.

Dutch rescues Malin from a sticky situation and whisks her off to a private island owned by K19 aided by Onyx and his co-pilot Sara.

Malin is CIA she’s certain she’s about to be burned and her mission was ended before she could get the information that would keep her alive.

Dutch’s reasoning for helping Malin is strictly personal, he made a decision that hurt Malin so deeply years ago and he needs to fix it. He doesn’t quite know how to do this, but he does know that he wants her and not just for now but forever.

His feeling of foreboding only worsened when he got back to the house and couldn’t find Malin in it anywhere. Rather than panic, as he felt himself about to do, he went outside to look.

Ten minutes later, he spotted her off in the distance, running the island’s trails. While he hadn’t yet changed out of the clothes he’d been wearing for two-going-on-three days, she must’ve found both workout wear and running shoes.

He understood her need to burn off energy. They’d both trained all their lives, staying in the best shape they could, so when days or weeks went by when missions prevented them from getting the exercise their bodies needed, it could be both physically and mentally painful.

His heavy boots made for shitty running shoes, so Dutch went back to the house to see if he could find what Onyx had delivered for him. Within twenty minutes, he was back on the crest, looking for Malin. This time he spotted her down on the beach. Instead of running, she was sitting on the sand.

Dutch took the most direct route he could find, which wasn’t saying much. The overgrown vegetation on the island was lush with wild olive, red cedar, laurel cherry, and Sabal palm trees beneath which grew beautyberry, yaupon, wax-myrtle, and curlyleaf yucca plants. His favorite, though, was the purple sea lavender that grew alongside and contrasted so well with the goldenrod and yellow jessamine. While the trees, shrubs, and plants were beautiful, the density of it all made navigating the already rocky terrain that much more difficult.

After what felt like a hundred switchbacks, he walked out onto the beach, holding his side and trying to catch his breath.

Malin stood and walked toward him. “I was just about to head back,” she said, standing in front of him with her hands on her hips.

“Have mercy,” he said between deep breaths.

“How long has it been, Dutch?”

“Shit. I don’t know. Feels like a year, but probably more like a month.” Truth be told, he had no idea when he last ran as far as he did today. It would’ve been one thing if the trail had kept going down, but nope, more than half the time, he felt like he was gaining elevation rather than losing it.
While it couldn’t be much more than fifty degrees out, he pulled his sweat-drenched shirt over his head, tossed it on the sand, and sat on it.

“Ew,” Malin groaned and sat next to him.

“That shirt is going to be mighty gritty when you put it back on.”

“Whatever,” he muttered, lying back on the sand that would now be in his hair too. He really couldn’t have cared less when he saw Malin lie down next to him.

“It felt good to run in less than a hundred degrees.”

“I hear you, girl.” He’d hated every minute he’d spent in the Middle East, and it had been far too many. If there was ever anything that might make him consider retiring it would be being assigned another mission in a place like Syria, Somalia, Iraq, or Kuwait. He’d already spent far too many of the seventeen million minutes of his life in hell holes where the temperature rarely dropped below ninety.

“Can we just pretend for a little while?”

“What’s that?”

“That this, right here, is our whole world. No terrorists, no missions, no guns, no killing, no fucked-up evil-as-shit world leaders. Just the beach, the sand, the water, the island.”

“I’m down.”

“Thanks, Dutch.”

He turned to his side and propped his head on his bent arm. “What’s up, Miss Malin?”

“Nothing new. I’m just… tired of it all.”

“I was just thinking that myself.”

“Yeah?” she asked, turning on her side too.

“I was thinking about what it would take to make me call it quits. Meaning retire for good.”

“A message from Doc that he needed me to go back to the Middle East— pretty much anywhere. What about you?”

“I had already decided the mission I was working on would be my last.”

“For the agency, or in general?”

“Are you asking if I would do what you did and go private?”

Dutch winked. “Don’t make it sound so dirty, pretty girl.”

She laughed. “Whatever. My answer is no. When I’m done, I’m done.” She looked out at the water. “Although I may already be, whether it’s my decision or not.”

Between the ups and downs in Dutch and Malin’s relationship and the K19 crew working to get her in the clear. This book will keep you on your toes.

Plenty of suspense, drama and fiery romance.

I have already purchased the first two books in this series so I can begin to catch up. I really need to do that before the next one releases.

Winter Blog Review

This is an awesome start to a new series! The determination of Thornton ‘Shiver’ Whittaker to locate the love of his life, Orina ‘Losha’ Kuznetsov, is quite the project. He has agents all over keeping their eye out for her. It’s MI5 agent Axel that first finds her in Finland. Axel is the Whittaker estate gardener’s son and one of Shiver’s best friends.

When Orina found she was pregnant she went into hiding from United Russian, the modern equivalent of the KGB. That earned her a hefty price on her head. Her goal, stay alive and keep her son safe. The one person she really doesn’t want to find her is Shiver, she never told him she was pregnant and won’t.

Many twists and turns, finally lead Shiver to Orina. This is a favorite scene.

Shiver took several deep breaths in an attempt to settle his racing heart. Just being in Orina’s presence again spilled adrenaline into his system.

Fear, longing, regret, and hunger all rowed within him.

The baby looked so much like Orina it made his heart yearn to just sit and stare at him. There had been a point in time where he’d wondered what she’d looked like as a child. Now he knew, at least as a baby.

Kazmir. That’s what she’d said his name was. When she said it, he could feel the pride and love that poured out of her. There was no question that the baby was Orina’s. But who was the father? Would she tell him outright if he asked, or would she refuse, saying it was none of his business?

When they arrived at the house, Shiver waited behind them for the gate to open, and then followed their car inside the compound.

He parked and saw Gunner come out of one of the front doors.

“Shiver,” he said, walking over to the car.

“It’s good to see you.” They embraced, patting each other on the back as men were so often compelled to do.

“It’s okay, Gunner. You don’t need to explain. I understand.”

His friend nodded. “I’m relieved to hear it.”

Both men walked over to the car. “Can I help?” Shiver asked as he watched Orina get the baby out of the car seat.

“Do you want me to take him?” Zary asked.

Orina shook her head. “We’ll be fine.”

Zary nodded and she and Gunner walked away.

“What can I do?” Shiver asked, following Orina in the direction of the other front door.

“The house code is 1223,” she told him, motioning to the key pad.

“Got it,” he said, opening the door for her when the lock clicked. “Do you need anything from the car?”

“Not for now,” she said, shifting the baby to her other hip. “He’s hungry.”

Shiver nodded.

“Will it make you uncomfortable?” “What’s that?”

“If I feed him.”

Shiver shook his head, wondering why she thought it might. When she sat and unfastened the buttons on her shirt, he understood, watching in fascination as the baby found his mother’s breast. When his tiny hand rested near Orina’s face, Shiver felt certain it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

He looked up and found her studying him in the same way he’d been studying her baby.

“Thank you,” he murmured.

“What for?”

“Letting me… in.” He was so emotionally overcome, he couldn’t think of the right words to describe the way he was feeling. “I never…”

“What, Shiver? You never what?”

He scrubbed his face with his hand, glancing back at the baby. “Dreamed that anything so beautiful existed.”

“I know,” Orina whispered. “He takes my breath away.”

“Not just him. Both of you. I’m so in awe I can hardly speak.”

Orina’s eyes filled with tears, and she turned her head away. “I’m sorry,” he heard her whisper.

“What for, Losha? Why are you sorry?”

“So many things.”

Shiver looked out at the ocean. “Me too. So many things.” In that moment, he was consumed by regret. Why couldn’t this have been something they’d done together? Why had she shared this miracle with someone other than him? He wanted to shout the questions at her, while at the same time, never wanting to know the answers.

“Can you ever forgive me?” he thought he heard her say.

“Whatever for?”

She shrugged, her eyes resting on her baby.

“I would never begrudge you this happiness, Losha. Not ever. It is so obvious that you were meant to be a mother. I would never dream of wishing anything else for you or him.”

“Who is he, Orina?”

“What do you mean?”

“Who is the man you loved enough to have a child with? Who is the man you loved in a way you could never love me?”
Heather Slade. Shiver (Kindle Locations 866-902). Military Intelligence Section 6 Book One.

Finding her isn’t the only issue Shiver has. His father, the Duke, is dying which means he will soon take the title and he plans to make many changes especially where his siblings are concerned.

A bomb, family intrigue, suspense and so much more as the relationship between Orina and Shiver heats up again.
