CEO Aiden Kelley’s life of billionaire extravagance is flipped upside down when his ex shows up with a ten-year-old she claims is his. Totally out of his element and losing the control so integral to his success, he needs help. To top it all off, the only constant woman in his life, his executive assistant, has given notice just when he needs her help to survive his newfound fatherhood.

Chelsea Houston is an executive assistant, not a nanny. The only person more clueless about kids is her boss. Helping him on a daddy-daughter road trip is her last task before he’ll accept her two weeks’ notice and she can be free of the infuriating man she’s had a crush on for longer than she’d admit.

Aiden’s carefully ordered life has never been so disorganized, and he’s suddenly tempted by the things he thought he could never have. Things like love and family. Who knew chaos could be so damn fun?

For Chelsea finding feminine lingerie scattered in her office is the last straw. She is giving her two weeks notice today and will not be talked out of it. For too many years she has been the best executive assistant she can be, and falling for her boss is very unprofessional.

Aiden has his world upended when Margo, his ex from ten years ago, shows up with a surprise. He has a daughter and she has kept her away from him all this time. Not an easy feat when she is as much in the public eye as he is.

In order to get to know his daughter Waverly, a trip to the Grand Canyon is agreed upon. Now he has to convince Chelsea to go with them.

Mind you it’s not so much his words that convince Chelsea, it’s his actions, as shown in on of my favorite scenes.

Not me, she decided. No way in hell am I signing up for that job.

There were about a hundred reasons she should back away quickly from the whole situation. For one, Aiden was her boss, but she’d told him she was quitting. And even if she wasn’t on her way out the door, mixing business with pleasure was always a bad idea. In this case, her time remaining with the company would be far better spent interviewing possible candidates for her job and then training the new hire. Not gallivanting off on a personal trip with her soon-to-be- former boss.

For two, she was already attracted to the man. She knew that and recognized the weakness it represented. Spending alone time with him, intimate time when the line between boss and employee blurred…unwise, to say the least. It would be one giant mind game with herself to continue to recognize that Aiden was not the man for her.

Even if he did have one of the best asses she’d ever seen in a suit. She couldn’t begin to imagine what those broad shoulders of his would look like out of said suit. Well, hell, that was a lie. She could imagine and had spent many a bored hour between meetings doing just that.

Further, if she agreed to this trip, who would keep things going in the office? Just the day-to-day stuff in the interim would be enough reason for her not to leave the office, especially if he was out and off the map for the duration of his little adventure.

That last one seemed rather feeble, even to herself. But the one reason she couldn’t deny? Even if she removed every single reason why dating him was a bad idea, she was gone in two weeks. And as much as she’d love to taste his body as many times as she could before she left, she wasn’t about to rock a ship that had just taken on board his newfound daughter.

So, as she rested her hand on her office door, she braced herself to go inside. The answer was a no, plain and simple, nothing more to think about. She simply couldn’t afford to cave and agree to go on this trip with Aiden and Waverley.

She opened the door and saw Waverley looking at her father like he was nuts and him pouring the kid a cappuccino. The scone in front of Waverley sat untouched, and the child gazed at Chelsea as if she was a savior—come to rescue her from the inept handling of her well-meaning father.

“Whatcha doing, Aiden?” Chelsea asked, although it looked pretty clear. He was trying to offer his ten-year-old daughter coffee and a scone for lunch. Although that same lunch would’ve been top ten on Chelsea’s list of lunch favorites, she somehow doubted— both from the kid’s expression and logic—that it was typically served to her at home or elsewhere.

“We’re about to have lunch. I was hoping you’d join us so we could revisit the Grand Canyon discussion.” He looked so damned adorable and unaware as he was fumbling that a piece of her heart melted, just a little.

I know I’m going to regret this.

“I’ve decided I’ll go on the trip.” Picking up her office phone, she glanced at Waverley. “What kind of pizza do you like, kid?”

Waverley smiled at her, placing the coffee cup carefully on Chelsea’s desk and only sloshing a little onto the shining, ass print-free mahogany. “Pepperoni.”

I laughed so hard at the antics on this trip. The assumptions Aiden makes are hysterical and the way they are handled… priceless.

Waverly is a joy to get to know and is snarky and adorable as she plots and plans.

We get to see Camden and Jeanie from ‘The Penthouse Prince’ in this one as well. I love the dynamic of this couple and the spin it puts on this book.

Plenty of heat and lots of laughs.

Virginia Nelson Virginia Nelson

Virginia Nelson believed them when they said, “Write what you know.” Small town girl writing small town romance, her characters are as full of flaws, misunderstandings, and flat out mistakes as Virginia herself.

When she’s not writing or plotting to take over the world, she likes to hang out with the greatest kids in history, play in the mud, drive far too fast, and scream at inanimate objects.

Virginia likes knights in rusted and dinged up armor, heroes that snarl instead of croon, and heroines who can’t remember to say the right thing even with an author writing their dialogue.

Her books are full of snark, sex, and random acts of ineptitude—not always in that order.

Summer My Review

I am loving this world. You enter with a skeleton key. The way you obtain said key is varied. One thing appears to be certain you must accept and use it willingly. In this story two brothers Aurelian and Nolan are vying for the throne of the Unseelie Court. However in order to prove themselves worthy they feel they need an Army. The type of Army is the difference between the two brothers. In order to create the army they need the cooperation of a halfling. Since most if not all halflings live in the human realm they would first need the key and then locate her.

Aurelian is ahead in this game he has the key and knows where to to find her.

Evvie is the halfling and she is drawn into this game. Scared confused and glad to see Ian, she is slowly informed of where she is and why. Unfortunately for her no one and I mean no one is being completely honest with her. Here is one of my favorites scenes where Nolan sort of tells her the truth.
“H— he told me that I was the key. That I had to choose between you and him. That my decision would decide who would be the next King.” Evvie dropped her eyes as embarrassment continued to flood her cheeks. Nolan was handsome, but in a different way than Aurelian, he was also nice… maybe nicer. She was glad she hadn’t made a hasty decision.

It’s always better to take your time and weigh the odds, right? Especially if they were going to affect my future… but how could anything in the fae world affect me?

She frowned. They would let her go home after she’d made the decision… wouldn’t they?

Nolan stepped closer, his fingers trailing along her neck and over her shoulder.

“That is all he told you? I’m surprised he wasn’t more forthcoming about what your decision would cost you.”

“Cost me? What do you mean? He just said that I had to decide and that it would affect me… he didn’t say it would cost me anything.” Her gaze shot up to meet his. Nolan was too close for her comfort, becoming almost predatory. She turned from him to face the window again.

“You will have to decide— that much is true— but he failed to tell you about the army.” His voice trailed off on the last word.

“Army?” She echoed.

“Yes, you are the key to the creation of the most powerful army. Whichever you decide will cost something from you.”

She shuddered, “What will it cost me?”

A cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

“One of us needs your blood and the other,” his hand slipped up her arm and rested above her heart. “The other requires your heart.”
Army Of The Winter Court (Skeleton Key) (pp. 114-115). Sapphire Press. Kindle Edition.

As the story progressed I found myself holding my breath hoping she chooses wisely. Only to be surprised by a stunning turn of events.
