Summer Blurb

Terrorists want her…but so does he.

Isaac believes this personal protection assignment in Big Sky, Montana is going to be filled with skiing novice slopes all day and spending his nights fending off unwanted pursuers of the pampered daughter of two Atlanta physicians. He couldn’t be more wrong. Hannah Kader was an officer in the all-female YPG Battalion in the Syrian Army, and ISIS wants her, preferably alive. The chase isn’t the only thing that heats up when the flint of the former SEAL strikes against the steel of the woman warrior.

Snow SEAL is a Guardian Security crossover with Elle James’s Brotherhood Protectors. If you enjoy heart-pounding, military romance interwoven with sizzling passion, you’ll like the fourth book in this novella series.

Buy this book and let KaLyn Cooper take you on a thrill ride through the Montana mountains.

Summer My Review

Isaac Snow is on his first assignment for Guardian Security. Arriving early in Big Sky he took advantage of the time to do some skiing and visit with friends Hank and Axel. Hank had offered him a job at Brotherhood Protectors, but he really doesn’t want to return to Montana and Guardian is a perfect fit for him.

He has many surprises in store for him when he meets the woman whom he believes to be the pampered daughter of physicians. As he tests her abilities he finds himself more than a little impressed by Hannah Kader. As they get to know each other he finds himself attracted to her and she to him. The struggle to keep everything professional with visual and audio surveillance all over the house is frustrating for them both.

A calm and secure stay is not to be as they are forced from the supposed secure home by ISIS attackers.

A favorite scene is at the end of that altercation.

“I’ve got this,” Hannah said as she shoved him toward the other side. “You just be prepared to shoot if they decide to follow us.” She flung open the front door and threw her bag on the center console then jogged to the back, clumsily shucking off her backpack. Skis, that were as long as her body, made handling the heavy backpack awkward. Isaac didn’t have near as much problem, and shoved hers in on top of his before quietly closing the hatch. No need to advertise their location.

“Where are those tangoes?” Isaac asked in a low, quiet voice.

“They’re spreading out. Closest one is 1,500 feet. He’s tracking you down the trees.” Thankful Guardian Security had his back, Isaac was even more grateful for Alex’s connections at the highest levels. At that moment, they had their own satellite.

As he slid onto the other seat, Hannah was jamming the key into the ignition. “I’ve been told they train SEALs to steady a shot while standing on a boat in the middle of a rolling ocean. I hope you can apply those skills to a moving car.” She opened the roof.

“Brings all new meaning to riding shotgun,” Isaac said as he dug his M4 out of his duffel before shoving it into the back seat.
KaLyn Cooper. Snow SEAL (Kindle Locations 760-769). Kindle Edition.

Thus begins a race to safety and the revelation of why ISIS wants Hannah so badly.

Action packed and steamy this is a story you won’t be able to put down.

Special Forces: Operation Alpha: Buck the System – Sealed With A Kiss Book 2 By Margaret Madigan

Buck The System
Sealed with a Kiss Book 2
Margaret Madigan

Dr. Melinda Emerson is still reeling after her escape from Russian mafia terrorists. If she never sees or hears anything Russian again, it’ll be too soon. She’s ready to go back to researching a cure for Alzheimer’s and to begin building a life with her new man, Grady “Buck” McCormick. But the Russians aren’t done with her just yet.

Grady “Buck” McCormick likes to be in charge. But he loves Melinda more. Turns out it’s not so easy for a single alpha male to learn how to be a partner rather than a leader, but he’s determined to do it. That resolve is put to the test when his team gets orders for a new mission where the tables are turned and he must relinquish control, depending on Melinda to protect him.

The Russian mafia is back like a bad penny. They’ve been experimenting on the cognitive enhancing drug Melinda invented. Their version makes users obey orders without question, but it’s also fatal. Melinda is sent along as a civilian consultant with two SEAL teams to infiltrate a secret Siberian lab, secure the head scientist, and retrieve all the research on the drug. But the mission goes sideways when Buck and several of the SEALs are injected, and Melinda is forced to find a cure, or lose the man she loves.

Well it seems I have started to read the second book in a series once again. I didn’t really need to go back to the first, but curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know the relationship’s beginning. My review of Bang For The Buck posted last Friday.

This book opens with an argument that I think many women have had with their partners at one time or another. The ability to drive and getting where they are going the best way possible.

I really love this developing relationship between Melinda and Buck, and her friend Jayla is a hoot in her relationship with Noah another SEAL.

Fearing what the Russians might do with her accidental discovery Melinda agrees to work with the CIA. Never expecting to actually do more than consult on things.

This is a favorite scene.

“Dr. Emerson will go along on the mission as a consultant to assist in the interrogation of Petrov, and identify and obtain pertinent information,” Moss said.

“Sorry, ma’am, those are your orders.” Commander Gerald “Hard-Ass” Hardigen entered the room through a door at the front corner, and everyone in the room shot up from their seats to attention. “Have a seat, men,” he said.

Buck dropped into his chair, numb that his first mission with his new team had his loyalties divided between the mission itself and protecting Mindy no matter what. Certainly protecting a civilian asset would be part of the mission, but this was the woman he loved who had exactly zero military or covert ops training. She could barely hit a fucking target with a handgun, and she fainted in crowds.

“Sir,” Mindy said. “What’s the purpose of my going? Couldn’t Dr. Franklin go? He seems knowledgeable enough.”

Buck bit back a grin. She managed to drag Franklin for his disrespect simply by adding ‘enough’ to her comment. Good girl. But one look at Franklin and the guy was in no better shape for a mission than Mindy.

“No. You’re going. You have two of the Navy’s finest SEAL teams protecting you. Trust me, you’ll be fine,” the commander said, implying the discussion closed. Buck knew she’d have at least one SEAL stuck to her like glue the whole time. “All right, men. You have your orders. Team Leaders will be given infil, exfil, rendezvous, and mission details, and teams will receive those on the flight. You’re to prep and report for departure at oh-six-hundred tomorrow. Dismissed.”

As the rest of the men filed out of the room, Buck worked against the flow to get to Mindy. She looked stunned, just standing at the front of the room like a lost little girl.

“Mindy,” Buck said. When she saw him she came to life, her eyes welling up with tears.

She threw herself into his arms. “Buck. I don’t want to go.”

“I know. But you work for the CIA now, too, right? I assume when the Commander said you had orders, that’s what he meant?”

She pulled away and swiped at her eyes. “Yes.”

Ice Bates stepped up and cleared his throat. “I assume you two know each other, then?”

If the guy wasn’t his team leader Buck would have shot back with some sarcastic response. “Yes, sir,” he said instead. “Dr. Emerson is my girlfriend.”

“Is that going to be a problem for you on this mission?”

“No, sir.”

“Because if it is, I can replace you for this one.”

The hell he would. “Having Dr. Emerson on the mission will not compromise my ability to perform my duties, sir.”

“Good to hear.” He turned to Mindy. “Nice to meet you ma’am. You’ll be briefed further in transit. I suggest you go home and pack a small bag, make whatever arrangements you need to for your job, then report back in the morning.”

“Any idea how long we’ll be gone?” Mindy asked.

Ice held her gaze, his expression flat. “No.”

Buck and Mindy followed Ice to the door. Wolf Steele met them near the exit, offering his hand to Ice to shake.

“I’m Wolf Steele, leader for my team. We’ll be working together on this mission.”

“We will,” Ice said, shaking Wolf’s hand.

“You know, my wife’s call sign is Ice,” Wolf said.

Ice paused for a beat then said, “I trust you won’t get us mixed up.”

Buck swallowed a snort, and Mindy covered her mouth to muffle her snicker. Wolf just grinned.

“No chance of that.”

Ice nodded. “See you all in the morning.”

After Ice left, the three of them looked at each other.

“Wow. He needs a sense of humor,” Mindy said.

“Hey, if he’s good at his job, he doesn’t need one,” Buck said.

“I haven’t had a chance yet to welcome you to Coronado,” Wolf said, offering his hand.

Buck accepted the handshake. “Thanks, Wolf. I’m looking forward to working together.”

Wolf turned his attention to Mindy.

“You okay, Melinda?” She smiled, having collected herself enough to do so. “I will be. My experience with the Russian mafia so far hasn’t convinced me I’m any more qualified to deal with them now than I was the first time.”

Wolf rested a hand on her shoulder and squeezed. “We’ve got your back. You’ll have fourteen of the best soldiers the Navy has to offer, protecting you. I promise, it’ll be a breeze. In and out and home before you know it.”

Mindy raised an eyebrow, not buying into the hype. “Thanks, Matthew. I appreciate your confidence. And your protection.”

Wolf smiled and patted her shoulder. “You’re practically part of the family. Besides, Caroline would never let me hear the end of it if I allowed anything happen to you.”

“Oh, that reminds me. I need to talk to her before we leave. You think she’d watch Mr. Wiggles while I’m gone?”

“I’m sure she would.”
Margaret Madigan. BUCK THE SYSTEM (Kindle Locations 481-524). Kindle Edition.

This mission has disaster spelled all over it. The Russians do not give up easily and finding her original kidnappers lived begin the nightmare all over again. There are lots of twists and turns as the SEALs are compromised in the most horrible way and the clock is ticking.

Action, suspense, and plenty of romance! A hold your breath combination.

New From KaLyn Cooper! Rescuing Melina – Guardian Elite Book 3

Rescuing Melina
Guardian Elite Book 3
KaLyn Cooper

Her life is filled with lies and he’s one of them.

When Jacin awoke stateside, he remembered nothing about his escape from the Colombian cartel or his torture. He was sure of only one thing, his love of Melina, his handler. When she disappears, neither bruises nor the CIA will keep him from rescuing her.

Rescuing Melina brings together the Alphas from Susan Stoker’s Delta Force Heroes and the sexy men of KaLyn Cooper’s Guardian Elite series into a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.

Get the third book in the Guardian Elite series now!

This book is the perfect blend of Susan Stokers Delta Force Heroes and Kalyn Cooper’s Guardian Series.

We open with Jacin waking up in a stateside Military hospital, with Melina at his side.

If you read Kalyn’s Black Swan Series, you will remember Melina from Uncaged Love. Melina was Rafe’s handler and helped him and Harper get out of Columbia.

Now being a CIA agent undercover always has risks and Jacin has almost paid the ultimate price. Melina is at his bedside where the doctors are slowly bringing him out of a medically induced coma. Jacin believes that Rafe and her are an item and when she announces she has to return to Washington, they fight. He wanted to stay in the make believe where she was his wife, as all the doctors thought.

She meets Mary at the supermarket, a surprising encounter for us who read both series.
This scene made me cry, it is a favorite.

As the uniformed cashier slid the last item toward the new bag boy, she paused and looked directly into Melina’s eyes and lowered her voice. “Why did you do it? Pay for that other lady’s groceries?”

“I used to be her.” Melina was embarrassed when her voice cracked on the small sentence.

“Don’t look like you’re her anymore.”

“No, but I’ve never forgotten what it’s like to be hungry.” Melina signed a small plastic screen and pushed her overflowing cart into the parking lot.

“Look, I was told to bring these bags to you.” The first bagger held out the groceries to the woman whose purple streak gleamed in the midday Texan sun.

“Who told you these were mine?”

The teen used that opportunity to shove the bags into the woman’s arms. “That lady.” He pointed toward Melina as he trotted back to the store.

When the woman approached her, arms extended as though to give back the three bags of groceries, she explained, “I believe these are your groceries, not mine.”

Melina shook her head. “No. I’m positive those are yours. The boy had yet to pack them up when you grabbed your bags and left. All I did was insist he catch you.”

Nearly in tears, the woman stood a little straighter as sad brown eyes met Melina’s darker ones. “Thank you. I appreciate this.” She held out her hand. “I’m Mary Weston.”

“Melina Torres.” Staying with that name seemed as good an idea as any.

As they shook hands, Mary explained, “I had to wait for my prescriptions to be filled at the pharmacy across the street so I thought I’d pick up a few things. They’re new medicines, so I don’t know how much my insurance company is going to cover. I wanted to be sure I had enough left for the co-pay.”

Melina wanted to hug her. The young woman was proud, yet willing to accept a gift.
KaLyn Cooper. Rescuing Melina (Kindle Locations 363-378). Kindle Edition.

It’s in this parking lot that things take a turn for the worst. Hold on tight, it just gets tenser, scarier and perfect!

Rafe and Harper, Alex and Kat, the Deltas, specifically Truck all come into play. Of course Jacin won’t be left behind either, injuries and all.

A page turner that will have you laughing and crying and holding your breath.

Winter Blog Review

I originally read this as Explosive Combination, it has been revised and edited to fit closer with the Black Swan Series and we hear and see more of those fabulous ladies in this one.

While the basis of the story hasn’t changed it is really different and we meet some new characters as well.

This story starts off with a bang. Under the noses of her ATF team Harper Tambini is taken by Carlos Narváez the head of one of the drug running Cartels. Carlos’ Secundo Rafe is taken by surprise but follows orders to take her to the Narváez compound.

Unknown to Harper, Rafe is CIA and has been undercover for a long time keeping watch on his one time friend. He knows Carlos is becoming more paranoid and using his own product more and more. This scares him especially since he doesn’t know why Harper was taken. He contacts his agency and plans for her extraction and his own.

This is a favorite scene as Rafe wakes Harper after a call with his CIA boss.

Harper stirred. He crept to the bed and bent to shake her shoulder to awaken her.

She grabbed his arm and flipped him onto the bed face down, arms locked behind his back. She held a knife to his throat. His legs splayed, and her knee nudged his crotch.

“Harper,” he choked out in English, “I’m CIA. I’m one of the good guys. Let me up.”

She held her position. “You’re very high ranking in this organization to be CIA. How long have you been under cover?” She kept her face close to his and spoke in undertones.

She was good. He’d never expected that move. “I started at the top. Narváez and I were college roommates. Now can you get off me?” His heart beat rapidly for what seemed to take forever. The cold steel at his throat didn’t quiver. He heard her sigh and the pressure of her knee at his crotch ease.

She finally removed the knife and slid off his back. “I’d hoped someone was inside, but I didn’t think it was you.” She moved quickly away from him and braced herself on her knees, the knife still held in fighting position.

Rafe rolled onto his back and sat up. He rubbed where the blade had pressed, thankful not to feel any blood on his neck. “You’re better than I thought you’d be. I never saw you steal this from the supper table.” He glanced at the satisfied look on her face.

“Yes, I am good. The hardest part was to find some place under that dress that it wouldn’t imprint. The last thing I wanted was Narváez to strip-search me at the supper table.” She shuddered.
KaLyn Cooper. Explosive Combination (Kindle Locations 1292-1307). Kindle Edition.

As we all know the best plans always go awry so, Rafe and Harper proceed to plan B or is it C through the jungle. A tense action packed story as they work their way through not only the jungle but also the attraction to one another.  Topped off with explosive (pun intended) sex.

Guardian Security has finally found a woman with the qualifications to be a part of their team. Ryleigh spent a lot of time in the sandbox embedded as an informant. Her partner turned out to be a traitor and she has now left the military behind.

When Blake first sees Ryleigh he thinks she is a potential client, but when he realizes who she is, well let’s say he’s not sure if he’s angry or happy. They had a relationship and she disappeared without a word.

Ryleigh and Blake are given an assignment before she can unpack. A valid threat has been made against Billionaire CEO Duke Wainwright’s wife and they need additional security for their vacation at an exclusive resort.

This is a favorite scene as the assignment is given and explained.

“No.” Wyatt explained, “Mr. Wainwright has received what we have determined to be credible threats to his life. The most recent one arrived an hour ago and threatened to kill his wife. He is not expecting trouble on the exclusive island, but he’d rather be safe than sorry. That’s why you two are going.”

“Just the two of us?” Blake asked, his jaw dropping slightly.

“Yes.” Alex’s eyes narrowed. “Do you have a problem with that?”

“Sir,” Blake protested. “If the Wainwrights are truly in danger, I’d rather have my standard contingent of six of my best men to protect him and his wife.”

Wyatt shook his head. “Mrs. Wainwright is vehemently against any protection services. She believes the exclusivity of the resort, which owns the whole damn island, and their promised increased security, is enough.”

Alex’s gaze moved from Blake to Ryleigh. “But Duke isn’t satisfied. He finally got Ella to agree on one man and one woman.” When he smiled at her, she knew exactly what Katlin saw in her Latin lover. Damn, he was handsome. “I knew hiring you was a good decision.”

Ryleigh wasn’t sure he really had a choice given that one of her best friends owned part of the company. Even so, she would do everything in her power to prove Alex right. He’d jumped far out on a limb for her. “Thank you, sir. I won’t let you down.”

“Okay, so I’ll be protecting Mr. Wainwright, and Ryleigh will handle Mrs. Wainwright’s protection?” Blake asked. “Will they be staying in separate villas or hotel rooms?”

Wyatt shuffled his feet and the corners of Alex’s mouth kicked up. “I’m only telling you this because I believe it’s necessary for you to know in order to effectively guard the Wainwright’s.” Alex took a deep breath and ran his hand over his angled face. “I’ve known Duke and Ella for several years. The man is a fucking genius and has done wonders with the family company. But I can tell you from experience, growth like that comes at a personal cost.”

Ryleigh could see the truth in Alex’s eyes before he continued. “This trip was Ella’s idea, and she had planned it for months. I think, and this is just my personal opinion, that she hopes to pull Duke away from his all-consuming work and back into their relationship.” Alex grinned. “Sometimes we men need a kick in the ass to see what’s right in front of us.”

Under his breath, Wyatt quietly added, “Or bullets flying at us.”

Alex chuckled. “Yeah. Some of us are denser than others.”

Ryleigh would have to ask Katlin about that inside joke. Pulling the conversation back to the situation at hand, she asked, “So what’s our cover story?”

“You are traveling with them as their friends,” Alex explained. “But don’t ever forget, you’re there to protect them.”

Once again, Blake clarified, “So I’m going as Mr. Wainwright’s buddy, and Ryleigh is going as Mrs. Wainwright’s BFF?”

“No.” Wyatt dragged out the word. “You two are going as Mr. and Mrs. Seasnan.”

“Seasnan?” Ryleigh and Blake said in unison.

“Who the hell came up with that name?” Blake spit out.

“Blame Katlin for that one.” Alex shrugged. “It’s Gaelic for bodyguard.”

Ryleigh burst out laughing. “That sounds like Katlin. During training she used to come up with the most bizarre names for people and places, almost all of them based in Gaelic.” She looked at Alex. “You’ve heard from her lately?”

A warm smile crossed his usually hard face. “Yes. A few hours ago. She’s on her way home.” He looked at his watch. “Sorry to cut this meeting short, Wyatt, but I need to catch a plane to D.C. Your center looks wonderful, as always.”

Alex extended his hand to Ryleigh. “Welcome aboard Guardian Security.”
KaLyn Cooper. Double Jeopardy (Kindle Locations 213-242). Kindle Edition.

Within minutes of their arrival an attempt on Duke’s life is made. Fortunately the head of security for the Island isn’t so arrogant as to protest further assistance. Even with two additional bodyguards the attempts keep coming. One of which almost takes out Ryleigh.

It’s then that she realizes she doesn’t want to stay away from Blake and the temperature goes up.

Action packed, suspenseful and definitely hotter than the climate.

Dallas Fire and Rescue: Smoke and Mirrors – Guardian Elite Book 1 by KaLyn Cooper A Kindle Worlds Novella

Smoke & Mirrors
blends first responders from
Paige Tyler’s Dallas Fire and Rescue
with KaLyn Cooper’s sexy men from her Black Swan series
into a heart-pounding romantic suspense

Dallas Fire and Rescue: Smoke and Mirrors
Guardian Elite Book 1
KaLyn Cooper

She’s not what she seems. Neither is he. But the terrorist threat is real. So is the desire that smolders between them.

Gwen Shaw overhears refugee teenagers discussing a plot to rival 9/11, but her Arabic is rusty. Besides, who is going to believe the sketchy information from an apron-wearing newcomer, even though she’d recently left the Army as a seasoned officer?

Jonathan O’Neil, new to the Dallas Guardian Security Center, knows a terrorist plot when he sees one on the tempting waitress’ computer. To find out the details of the plan and to stop them, he sets out to seduce her, only to find that nothing is what it seems.

When I started reading this I knew it was going to be something different. Especially with Jonathan’s encounter with a couple of older ladies leaving the diner as he is entering. Giggling right from the start.

Quin and Jonathan were having their first meeting since Jonathan had joined him from the Miami Guardian office. However this was not to be a normal meeting in any sense of the word. Interrupted by a distraught well dressed woman full of accusations and venom as their waitress Gwen delivers their order, this is a favorite scene. It does have adult language but it is definitely necessary.

Quin looked clueless, and Jonathan had no idea who any of these people were or what the hell she was talking about.

Gwen appeared with their food and hip checked the woman out of the way. She set the plates on the table and called out to everyone, “Show’s over folks. Go back to your food and drinks.”

She turned to the woman and Gwen fisted her hands in her hips. “Bitsy, what the hell? You know better than to bring your dirty laundry into my restaurant.”

“Well, I tried to get into their office, but it’s like Fort Knox.” Bitsy opened the gigantic yellow purse and started to dig. “Besides, this isn’t your restaurant. Suze and James will be back soon.”

Gwen cocked her head. “It is mine right now, since they left me in charge.” Under her breath, she added, “Damn it all.”

Jonathan flipped the leather tab that secured his handgun in the holster at his side. If she pulled a gun out of there, he’d be ready. A glance toward the standing cops revealed they’d done the same.

Bitsy lifted her head and wagged a single key on a ring. “This fucking thing doesn’t work anymore.” The irate woman vibrated. “Because if had it worked, I would have killed that husband-fucking secretary of theirs.” She glared lasers at Quin and Jonathan.

Then Bitsy pulled a pink Glock 26 from the outside pocket of her purse.
Cooper, KaLyn. Dallas Fire & Rescue: Smoke & Mirrors (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Guardian Elite Book 1) (Kindle Locations 209-221).

There is an immediate attraction between Jonathan and Gwen but he doesn’t act on it right away. He instead becomes a nightly regular for breakfast.

Gwen keeps a close eye on everything in her restaurant. When she overhears some teenage boys speaking Arabic she transcribes what becomes a catalyst for Jonathan to take action. Unfortunately for him that action also leads to what she interprets as betrayal of trust.

A complicated state of affairs as they try to figure out the target of the boys’ relatives. Even as their attraction for each other increases.

A page turner with plenty of twists, turns and action. With a sizzling romance that add some heat to this fiery tale.

She and her husband live in Tennessee on their micro-plantation filled with gardens, cattle, quail, and a bird dog. When she’s not writing, she’s at the shooting range or on the river.
