Cowboy and former detective Vance Gallagher never thought he’d have a second chance to convince Rachel Henderson they were meant to be together, nor did he think he’d want to. Now, after seven years, thanks to his old police academy friend, Vance is knee deep in numbers and computers, determined to save Rachel’s ranch and his own heart.

Rachel hadn’t expected to see Vance again…ever. In fact, she planned on it. Saying goodbye to him had been the hardest thing she’d ever done, but she couldn’t handle her sister, the ranch, and his job as an undercover detective all at the same time. Now she’s with him every day and buried feelings just won’t go away.

The closer Vance gets to solving the mystery of the missing money, the more convinced he becomes that Rachel is the one for him. But when prize animals start disappearing, he has to choose between revealing the culprit and keeping the woman he’s always loved from harm. He just can’t catch a break.

I am loving Sable Hunter’s Hell Yeah! Kindle World. The way some of my favorite Cowboy authors are blending their characters in with Sable’s is fun and exciting too. Lexi’s Poker Flats series is a favorite of mine and it’s fun to see these characters away from the Nudist Resort Ranch. Add in Sable’s McCoy’s of Tebow Ranch and it just gets better and better, even if the circumstances aren’t fun.

In this book we meet Rachel Henderson, she is a woman who has always risen to the occasion and done what she needs to keep her family’s ranch going. It hasn’t been easy but now things have gone terribly awry and she needs help. She just didn’t realize that when she called her friend Hunter McKade he would bring someone from her past in to help as well.

Vance Gallagher came when Hunter called him to help with a ranch’s sudden financial problem. He just didn’t know the ranch in question was Rachel’s. He’d loved her and she broke his heart, but he knew he’d do everything in his power to help her.

As Vance investigates he also has to come to grips with the fact he still loves Rachel and surprisingly enough she still loves him. A favorite scene is a the end of the day when her foreman had called out and she works the ranch in his place.

Frustrated, she stomped up the porch steps and opened the screen door and front door. As soon as she stepped inside, she slowed as the coolness of the air conditioning hit her. After riding hard all day, something she rarely had to do anymore, the temperature of the house refreshed her.

She closed the door then headed for the kitchen. The scent of beef stew wafted by. She hadn’t seen Crystal’s car out there. Vance wasn’t cooking, was he?

Stepping into the kitchen, she halted. Lord have mercy! Vance stood at her stove in a red checkered shirt and tight blue jeans that hugged his ass beautifully. He was in the process of lifting a wooden spoon to his lips and tasting its contents.

The need to taste his lips rose hard. She grabbed the door frame to keep herself in place. “I ran a bath for you.”

Vance turned and faced her, a small smile on his lips. “After a day of riding, I thought you might enjoy one.” His gaze moved from her face, to her dirty shirt, to her jeans and dust covered boots.

Oh shit. Her body responded to his look like a mare in heat. Her clothes were suddenly too confining and she took a step forward as if propelled by instinct. She wrapped her arms around her waist to keep herself from moving closer. “Thank you.”

She should say more, but her mouth didn’t want to work. Neither did her legs as she told them to back away. Luckily, her stomach rumbled, letting them both know she was hungry. She flushed and pointed behind her. “I’ll head upstairs now.”

Tearing her gaze from his smiling eyes, she turned on her heel and practically ran out of the room to the stairs. She took the steps two at a time, anxious to put space between her and Vance. She was in big trouble. She just couldn’t think with him around.
Post, Lexi. Hell Yeah!: Cowboy’s Break (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Poker Flat Series Book Book 4) (Kindle Locations 773-788). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

This is the beginning of a new start for them one where they communicate with each other. Unfortunately it also answers questions that Vance needed to validate his suspicions on who is playing with the ranch’s finances.

Many twists and turns bring us to the end of this intriguing tale. Complete with a renewed romance and plenty of hot bedroom time.

Cowboy Hunter McKade is former military police who survived two tours overseas, but when he came home, his wife and his life as he knew it, disappeared in an instant. Now a security guard at Poker Flat Nudist Resort, he exists in his dark place, requiring little social interaction – until the night he breaks the barrier that separates him from her. As a former prostitute from a high-end bordello, Adriana Perez loves sex – any kind, anywhere – and her rules are few. Her new bartending job at Poker Flat gives her lots of hospitality opportunities, so why is someone trying to get her fired? Baffled, she gratefully accepts Hunter’s help and protection, and is more than willing to show him her appreciation. But the man has far too much control.

Pushing Hunter beyond his boundaries becomes Adriana’s satisfying distraction. But the evidence against her mounts, and she ignores her gut to take matters into her own hands. Unfortunately, her best shot at fixing this may not be enough to save her job…or her heart.

This is the 3rd book in the Poker Flat series that began with Cowboys Never Fold.

I love the Poker Flats Series, I love Hunter, he is strong and protective, and Adrianna is funny, sensual and very open in her sexuality.  As this book opens Adrianna finds herself in a bit of a situation. This is one of my favorite scenes.

The impediment brought his rage to the surface. Picking up the stone planter at the edge of the patio, he threw it into the glass, his body coming through after it.

“Hunter!” Adriana’s look of relief was all he needed to see.

He squelched his instinct to put down the enemy first. Holding on to his new reality by a thread, he pulled the switchblade from his back pocket and cut the rope binding Adriana’s hands. Then he faced the two men. “You will leave this resort immediately.”

Keeping his eyes on their surprised faces, he felt Adriana stand up behind him. “Do you want to press charges?”

Before she could answer, the man with the whip raised it and brought it down toward him.

Hunter lunged, grabbing the leather coil at the thong and ripped it out of the Dom’s hands. He wrapped the whip around the man’s neck, cutting off his air supply. “Adriana, do you want to press charges?”

The other man pulled at his arm, trying to loosen his hold as the dominant man struggled to breathe. She stood next to him on his left not saying anything. The need to choke the life from the man took over his brain. He tightened the whip, his gut rejoicing at the gurgling sounds coming from the victim in his hands.

Something soft brushed against his shoulder. He stopped tightening at the movement. Adriana was there, a piece of his new reality. He wasn’t allowed to kill.

“No.” Her emotionless word, spoken softly as she shrugged and moved away, broke through his killing haze.

He released the whip and the man crumpled to the floor. Hunter kept his voice even. “You have one hour to vacate.”
Cowboy Justice 12-Pack (Kindle Locations 12863-12876). Kindle Edition.

This begins a series of incidents all pointing to our lovely bartender. All circumstantial and horribly incriminating. It takes a lot to overcome the things that Adriana has but she has always survived and been better for it. There are things she wants now, but can she have them or is she going to be forced to move on.

Then there is Hunter. Strong, silent and so attracted to Adriana. He doesn’t feel worthy to feel alive, to love again. But he does know Adriana is innocent, he just has to prove it.

I think this book has more tension and unease than any other in this series. A lot going on and so much intrigue, plus lots of that hot sex we’ve come to expect. I can’t wait for the next in this series.

Cowboy Trace Williams thought he had trouble when his wife served him with divorce papers, forcing him to move to his cousin’s horse rescue ranch. But that was nothing compared to handling the female squatter he’s supposed to evict from Last Chance Ranch. Though she’s a crack shot and has no use for politeness or subtlety, her ability to communicate with animals has him seeking her out on behalf of the ranch…and himself.

Whisper Adams lives off the grid. She cares for her invalid uncle and watches over the wildlife that finds her. The animals are more trustworthy than the people she’s encountered. So when a hard-bodied, easy going cowboy arrives at her trailer and causes her heart to race, she’s anxious for him to leave, until he asks for her help at the ranch.

Since they end up together more often than she prefers, Whisper doesn’t deny her attraction to Trace, who introduces her to new experiences, from riding horses to an erotic New Year’s night in bed. But mixing with people, any people, opens her to new threats. This relationship might cost Trace his heart, but it could very well cost Whisper her life.

I love this series already! Last Chance Ranch is a home for abused horses and the folks who help them to heal.
Whisper has already had an impact on the family but when Trace goes to kick her off the land, he finds so much more.
When three starving horses are brought to them the one mare won’t eat. Travis grabs on to the knowledge that Whisper can help the horse and give a reason to Cole why she should be allowed to stay where she is. One of my favorite scenes
Whisper turned to Trace. “Feed them all, now.”
Jenna leaned on the corral fence. “The other two have eaten, they need to wait.”
“No.” Whisper looked at the vet. “Feed them all now. It doesn’t have to be a lot.”
Trace headed toward the barn. “I’ve got this.”
Jenna ran after him, but Whisper returned her attention to the horses. Storm scratched Mystique’s back with his teeth and the mare’s head rose higher to return the favor. Rogue moved himself to be side by side with her.
Whisper’s tension eased. Now that the mare was reunited with her friends, maybe she would eat.
Trace strode toward her carrying a bucket of grain. Again she was reminded of an animal, but not a mountain lion this time. Instead, his broadness reminded her of a black bear she’d once seen up north standing on his hind legs scratching his back against a tree trunk. Yet Trace’s stride was all his, confident, strong, sexy.
She snapped her gaze back to the horses and her idea of asking him to have sex with her resurfaced.
Trace climbed the fence and dropped down inside the corral. He softened his landing by bending his knees, obviously not wanting to startle the horses. He moved to the tray that had been put out for them and emptied his bucket. “Come and get it.” He grinned at her as he stepped aside.
Storm immediately moved, jostling Mystique. Rogue followed and Mystique, not wanting to be left alone, joined them. As soon as she saw the food, she lowered her head and ate with her friends, sandwiched between them.
Whisper sighed with relief even as Trace walked toward her. “You did it.”
His look was full of pride and she felt her cheeks flush. She shrugged. “I guessed.”
He shook his head. “No, I saw you in there. You understood her. Is that why your name is Whisper? Because you are a horse whisperer?”
She chuckled. “Not even close.”
Trace’s Trouble (Last Chance Book 2) (Kindle Locations 677-693). Lexi Post. Kindle Edition.
But Whisper has more secrets, ones that could destroy the blossoming love between her and Trace.
Lots of heat and smoldering sex. A wonderful story of love, new beginnings and more. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Christmas 2015 Blog Review

Okay, you know I love my Cowboys so here’s another Christmas favorite.

I met Lacey and Cole in Cowboy’s Match (Poker Flats #2). This is the story of their first Christmas together.

Cole and Lacey are great together, her accounting skills have made the Last Chance Ranch financially solvent. Cole is a firefighter and operates his horse rescue from this ranch owned by his grandparents. Unfortunately the ranch house is full to bursting at the moment.

Angel is an abused White Arabian who is scared to death of men. Only Lacey and their female vet can get near her.

This story starts off very hot and sexy with Cole and Lacey’s Christmas Eve surprises for each other. Unfortunately that initial bliss turns a bit cold when the subject of Christmas Day at his parents comes up.

Cole’s mother had kept them apart for eight years and Lacey isn’t ready to forgive that. Lacey just wants it to be the two of them this year. Nothing like family drama at Christmas.

In the midst of all this, Angel’s abusive owner shows up and Christmas takes an entirely different turn.

Love, guilt, anxiety and more factor into this read and even Karma shows up.
