An Inside Out story, Chris’s POV

In a world where my only escape has been my art, Sara has been the light in my darkness. And there is darkness, the kind of inky black that can bleed from my life to hers.

She doesn’t see it. She doesn’t understand what I’ve shown her. And my biggest fear is that soon…she will.

This book delves into Chris’ past like the others have not. From Chris’ POV, we get to see all his demons. Sara will either accept him with his faults and work with him on the guilt or she will walk away.

Amber plays a large role in this book, her problems only make things harder for Chris and Sara. Chris and Tristan do what they feel is best and Sara agrees.

Plenty of intrigue, some very raw emotions and a love that shines through. A journey that shouldn’t be missed!

I cannot begin to explain my love of this series. Once again the story starts with an excerpt from Rebecca’s journal. In “Being Me” we learned what happened to Rebecca and the story now continues with Sara heading off to a new life with Chris in Paris.

But let’s not make this an easy transition; starting at the Paris Airport, Sara gets her pocket picked and her wallet and passport are gone before she makes it to the customs line.

Then the cab ride is no picnic with a message from the detective handling the investigation of Ava and asking why she left in such a hurry. I almost want to scream at the injustice of the beginning, but the way Chris handles things has me relaxing and waiting for the next thing to come up.

The beginning scenes are among my favorite and this is one of my favorites as they travel from the airport.

A sudden flashback of him showing up, after weeks of shutting me out of his life, and ordering me onto the back of his Harley, in a skirt of all things, is an unwelcome memory I shove away. I won’t let myself worry about him doing that to me again. Especially not today. I’m alive, which is a gift I value more than ever before.

I’m with Chris.

I’m in Paris, which I’m experiencing because of Chris, when everyone else in my life has always kept me in a box.

I lean over and kiss his cheek.

“What’s that for?” he asks, his strong arm wrapping around my waist.

I can think of a million ways to answer, and a million things I want to say to him. I simply say, “For being you.”

The tenderness in his face melts the last remnants of my bad memory. “If this is the reaction I get to a little sightseeing, I can’t wait to see how you react when you see the art galleries. You’re going to go nuts, baby.” His cell phone rings, and with the obvious reluctance I love, he lets go of me.

“It’s Blake,” he announces after glancing at the caller ID.

The name is like a cold splash of water on the warm, wonderful adventure we’re sharing. Since Blake has been investigating both Rebecca’s and Ella’s disappearances, I’m not sure if I should expect good or bad news.

“Easy, baby,” Chris murmurs, running his hand up and down my arm as if he feels my sudden chill. “Everything’s okay.”
Jones, Lisa Renee. Revealing Us (Inside Out Series Book 3) (pp. 26-27). Gallery Books. Kindle Edition.

More complications arise as we meet Amber, a good friend of Chris’, under the most unfavorable circumstances. Sara gets a lovely French tutor, Chantal, recommended by Katie, Chris’ godmother. Chantal helps with the language barrier as Sara begins looking for Ella. First at City Hall, then later at the US Embassy, Chantal is again needed when the French police show up. Can we say “Damn, Sara needs a break?

The story is fast paced and secrets are revealed. Sara and Chris work through a lot as they find how much they really do love each other.

My only complaint would be the cliffhanger, but the series is now complete so it’s not an issue.

Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the missing journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.

In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca—but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Once again the book opens with one of Rebecca’s journal entries. I was prepared this time and did not freak out. Then we continue exactly where “If I Were You” ended.

I swear I almost had an anxiety attack with Sara as she deals with the darkness we had left her in. Once out she gets a call from Chris and one of my favorite conversations in this book ensues.

My cell phone rings from the seat, where I don’t remember tossing it, and I jump, balling my fist between my breasts. “Good grief,” I murmur, chiding myself. “Get a grip, Sara.”

I glance at the number. Chris. My chest burns hot with emotion. There is so much between us that is unsettled, so many reasons why we are wrong for each other. Yet, despite this or perhaps because of it, I have never needed to hear someone’s voice as much as I need to hear his now.

“Sara,” he murmurs when I answer, and my name is a soft rasp of silky male perfection that radiates through me and settles in the deep hollow of my soul only he seems to fill.

“Chris.” My voice cracks on his name, because damn it, my eyes are burning. How have I gone from living the past few years so unaffected by what is around me to the opposite in a matter of weeks? “I . . . I wish you were here.”

“I am here, baby,” he says, and I think, I hope, I hear a note of his own emotion etched deep within his words. “I’m at your front door. Open up.”

I blink in confusion. “I thought you were in L.A. for the charity event.”

“I was and I have to fly out again in the morning, but I had to see you. Open up and let me in.”

I am stunned. I’ve worried all day over his silence. Feared he’d shut me out, as I had him last night. “You came home just to see me?”

“Yes. I came just to see you.” He seems to hesitate. “Are you going to leave me outside?”

More of that emotion I try not to feel erupts inside me, and the burn in my eyes threatens to become tears. He came to see me, went out of his way, to fly here from another city, even after the way I’d reacted to his confession at the club last night. “I’m not home.” My voice is barely audible. “I’m not and I want to be. Can you please come here?”

“Where is here?” he asks, sounding as urgent as I feel.

“A few blocks away. At a Stop N Buy store by the storage unit I told you about.” I can’t bring myself to say Rebecca’s name and I don’t know why.

“I’ll be right there.”

I open my mouth to give him directions, but the line goes dead.
Jones, Lisa Renee. Being Me (Inside Out Series Book 2) (pp. 7-8). Gallery Books. Kindle Edition.

This leads us into more complications and revelations that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The animosity between Mark and Chris, Sara’s insistence on being her own person and the realization that Ella may be missing as well keeps the tension high.

We discover the darkest secrets of Chris and Sara in this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of all of this and love that Chris hires Walker Security to protect Sara and investigate Rebecca’s disappearance. Fellow readers will recognize this company from Lisa’s Tall, Dark, and Deadly series.

Where is Rebecca? Where is Ella? Can Sara and Chris make their relationship work? Some answers are revealed others not yet.

I still don’t have adequate words for all the feelings that ran through me as I read this book. I laughed, I cried, I panted and held my breath. Yet another suspenseful, steamy, gripping novel.

How It All Started…

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals–dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

When I first started reading this book, I didn’t realize what those first pages were. I sighed and thought sarcastically ‘Great, starts right in with the sex’.

I continued reading and I was pleasantly surprised to find I had read just a journal entry that becomes our mystery. Ms. Jones weaves a complicated tale around a school teacher Sara McMillian and the Art World of San Francisco.

Everyone has secrets and some are best left hidden. The journal, it turns out was found in a storage locker owned via an auction by her neighbor. Who elopes and gives the key and the contents to Sara. Additional journals induce Sara to attempt finding the owner. Instead she finds a summer job at an Art Gallery, replacing Rebecca, (the owner of the locker). One that may lead to a permanent job in what she is passionate about, art.

In the process she meets Chris Merit an acclaimed artist with plenty of secrets of his own and one she admires. What ensues is a very hot, very complicated relationship.

Is the Gallery manager Mark a major player in the disappearance of Rebecca? Is she really on an extended vacation or is she truly missing and in danger?

The storage unit is a key player in the book, and her ownership of it has the suspense rising.

One of my favorite exchanges in the book is between Mark and Sara, after a wine tasting event.

“Chris made us both a lot of money tonight. Making money is not a terminating offense. Now, using Chris to manipulate me for money would be, but you wouldn’t do that, now would you?”

“No”, I say, and dare to go where I would normally never go, but then nothing is normal about the past few days. “And I don’t want to be a part of the ‘who’s got the bigger sword?’ contest you two have going on, either. I don’t do cockfights. I just want to do my job and do it well.”

Although this is a cliffhanger which would normally have me cursing the author, I think I need a new thesaurus to describe my reactions to this book. Hot, sexy, mysterious, suspenseful, all seem inadequate.

A New Series from Lisa Renee Jones: Provocative – White Lies – Book 1

Provocative
White Lies Book 1
By
Lisa Renee Jones

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not.

Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for.

KindleLogoibooks-logo-150x150

Once again Lisa Renee Jones weaves a tale so enthralling you can’t stop reading.

Even as Nick saves Faith from a couple of hired bank collectors, he knows something else is up. His motives aren’t pure by a long shot and but his attraction to her is undeniable and addictive.

Faith put her art career on hold to manage the family winery that her mother seemed determined to destroy. With her mother’s unexpected death the winery and all it’s issues is hers. Meeting Nick could be a blessing or a curse as she enters a relationship she is afraid will change everything.

We see Chris and Sara from the Inside Out Series and Faith’s art career gets a boost at a charity event at his godparents winery.

Now not everything gets answered in this book, but it won’t leave you unsatisfied.

A slow build up, full of suspense, hot sex, and lies of omission. I can’t wait for the conclusion of this tale, coming soon.

This book is a full length standalone novel that intertwines with both the Inside Out and Careless Whisper Series.

Desperate to pay for law school, Skye tries her hand at auction hunting with her friend Ella, only to find a poker chip and a note leading to an offsite locker. The next thing she knows, Jason “Red Bull” Wise–a famous, millionaire poker player–is at her door, accusing her of blackmail. Innocent, she swears he’s wrong. He rolls the dice and believes her, impulsively inviting her along to Las Vegas. And remarkably, cautious Skye takes a risk, finding herself seduced by this dangerously alluring man, on his private jet, and finally living life to the fullest. But there is more than passion waiting for Skye and Jason in Vegas when blackmail takes a deadly turn.

review-fall-cornucopia

I think this is the first one of  Lisa’s books I’ve read that is not a cliffhanger and I loved it!If you’ve read the Inside out series you’ll remember Ella she’s the one with the storage unit that leads us into that series. This book starts with the day the unit was purchased. Ella bought one unit and bid on one for her friend Skye.

Skye wasn’t exactly happy since the unit she got doesn’t contain much that she can see. Well except for a key to a bus station locker. What she finds there is a clue to something much larger than she could imagine.

The purchase of the locker leads profession poker player Jason “Red Bull” Wise to her door, much to the delight of her nosy neighbor. A favorite scene is as he is trying to convince Skye he really is being blackmailed. However, he has an obligation to fulfil and he doesn’t want her out of his sight.

“Until you know me and hear my story and believe it and me. That means spending time with me.”“No. I mean yes, but that doesn’t require I go to Vegas with you.”
“The sooner you get to know me, the sooner this is handled for both of us.”Why am I not saying no? “This is crazy.”“And sometimes crazy is exactly right.” And insane. And dangerous.

And . . . insane. So why am I even considering it?

“You want a reason to trust me,” he says. “I want to give you one. Or ten or twenty.”

“I promise you, I won’t hand the unit to the police or Stephanie or—”
“Damn it. No.” His fingers flex in my arms. “That’s not why I’m asking you to come with me. I could just have a private investigator watch you.”

“But that wouldn’t stop me from calling the police. And despite my telling you I won’t, you don’t know me any more than I know you.”

He doesn’t deny my statement. “Come with me to Vegas. Hear my whole story and then decide what to do.”

“In bed,” I say skeptically.

He releases me and steps back.

“I’ll get you your own room.”

I laugh at that. “Oh, please. Let’s not pretend you’re going to save my nonexistent virtue. Just be honest with me.”

“I’m being as honest as time allows.” He glances at his watch. “It’s eleven o’clock. I have to be at a table at five o’clock. It’s a television show that I’m contracted for, and I have to be there on time. Come with me.”

“I don’t have a plane reservation. You don’t have time to deal with that.”

“I chartered a private jet.”

“If that means small with propellers, I’m out.”

“No propellers. It’s a jet plane and a smooth ride.” He arches a brow. “Don’t tell me you’re afraid of flying.”

“I am afraid of flying.”

He steps to me again, those really amazing hands of his settling back on my arms. “I’ll keep your mind off the flight.” He softens his voice and says again, “Come with me. You can decide on the room when we get there.” “When do you get back?”

“When do you need to be back?”

“I didn’t say I was going.”

“When do you need to be back?” he presses.

“Tomorrow night.”

“Then we’ll come back tomorrow night.” He cups my face. “Look, Skye. What do you have to lose? Tell Molly next door you’re going with me. She’ll blab to everyone, and you know that will make you safe.”

“I’m not afraid of you.” It’s the truth. I just don’t know if that makes me right or stupid— but he’s given me insurance by suggesting Molly. That matters.

He kisses me, hard and fast, and settles his hand on my waist. “Say yes, and then go pack.”

Life is short and I’m barely living it, while he fears his life may soon end. If I can stop that from happening, I have to do that. My decision is made; I’m going to gamble for the second time in two days. “Yes. I’ll go with you.”
Jones, Lisa Renee. Inside Out: Behind Closed Doors (Kindle Locations 952-979). Pocket Star. Kindle Edition.

From here not only does romance blossom but also a suspenseful tale of greed. I couldn’t put this one down till I turned that last page.

We also see more of Ella and learn things that make me lust for the next Careless Whispers book.

Summer My Review

I think Lisa’s books are the only cliffhangers I read on a regular basis. I always tell myself I’ll wait until at least the second book before I start, but alas I have no will power. I fell into this book hard. From the beginning, when Shane gets his first look at Emily, to the end, I had no choice but to keep turning the pages.

A favorite scene is their first meeting.
My order appears and I straighten, intending to claim my coffee and find a seat, when a pretty twenty-something brunette races forward in a puff of sweet, floral-scented perfume, and grabs it.

“Miss,” I begin, “that’s—”

She takes a sip and grimaces. “What is this?” She turns to the counter. “Excuse me,” she calls out. “My drink is wrong.”

“Because it’s not your drink,” Karen reprimands her, setting a new cup on the counter. “This is your drink.” She reaches for my cup and turns it around, pointing to the name scribbled on the side. “This one’s for Shane.” She glances at me. “I’ll be right back to fix this. I have another customer.”

I wave my acknowledgment and she hurries away, while my floral-scented coffee thief faces me, her porcelain cheeks flushed, her full, really damn distracting mouth painted pink. “I’m so sorry,” she offers quickly. “I thought I was the only one without my coffee and I was in a hurry.” She starts to hand me my coffee and then quickly sets it on the counter. “You can’t have that. I drank out of it.”

“I saw that,” I say, picking it up. “You grimaced with disgust after trying it.”

Her eyes, a pale blue that matches the short-sleeved silk blouse, go wide. “Oh. I mean no. Or I did, but not because it’s a bad cup of coffee. It’s just very strong.”

“It’s a triple-shot latte.”

“A triple,” she says, looking quite serious. “Did you know that in some third-world countries they bottle that stuff and sell it as a way to grow hair on your chest?” She lowers her voice and whispers, “That’s not a good look for me.”

“Fortunately,” I say in the midst of a chuckle I would have claimed wasn’t possible five minutes ago, “I don’t share that dilemma.” I lift my cup and add, “Cheers,” before taking a drink, the heavy, rich flavor sliding over my tongue.

She pales, looking exceedingly uncomfortable, before repeating, “I drank from that cup.”

“I know,” I say, offering it back to her.

“Try another drink.” She takes the cup and sets it on the counter. “I can’t drink that. And you can’t either.” She points to the hole on top, now smudged pink. “My lipstick is all over it and I really hate to tell you this but it’s all over you too and…” She laughs, a soft, sexy sound, her hands settling on her slender but curvy hips, accented by a fitted black skirt. “Sorry. I don’t mean to laugh, but it’s not a good shade for you.”

I laugh now too, officially and impossibly charmed by this woman in spite of being in the middle of what feels like World War III. “Seems you know how to make a lasting impression.”

“Thankfully it’s not lasting,” she says. “It’ll wipe right off. And thank you for being such a good sport. I really am sorry again for all of this.”

“Apologize by getting it off me.”

Confusion puckers her brow. “What?”

“You put it on me.” I grab a napkin from the counter and offer it to her. “You get it off.”

“I put it on the cup,” she says, clearly recovering. “You put it on you.”
“I assure you, that had I put it on me, we both would have enjoyed it much more than we are now.” I glance at the napkin. “Are you going to help me?”

Her cheeks flush and she hugs herself, her sudden shyness an intriguing contrast to her confident banter. “I’ll let you know if you don’t get it all.”

My apparently lipstick-stained lips curve at her quick wit but I take the napkin and wipe my mouth, arching a questioning brow when I’m done. She points to the corner of my mouth. “A little more on the left.”

I hand her the napkin. “You do it.”

She inhales, as if for courage, but takes it. “Fine,” she says, stepping closer, that wicked sweet scent of hers teasing my nostrils. Wasting no time, she reaches for my mouth, her body swaying in my direction while my hand itches to settle at her waist. I want this woman and I’m not letting her get away.

“There,” she says, her arm lowering, and not about to let her escape, I capture her hand, holding it and the napkin between us. Those gorgeous pale blue eyes of hers dart to mine, wide with surprise, the connection sparking an unmistakable charge between us, which I feel with an unexpected, but not unwelcome, jolt. “Thank you,” I say, softening the hard demand in my tone that long ago became natural.
Hard Rules: A Dirty Money Novel (pp. 4-6). St. Martin’s Press. Kindle Edition.

With all the tension created by their dying, unfaithful father, Derek and Shane are at odds. Shane to make all the businesses legal and Derek who just doesn’t get the importance of that. All that and a mother whom I can’t tell who’s side she’s on, but probably just her own.

A relationship forming with enough ups and downs to mimic a rollercoaster, Emily has secrets that she needs to trust Shane enough to share with him. These two run hot and cold and back to hot again in a heartbeat.

A suspenseful tale with secrets we aren’t privy to. Family drama to the max and off the charts hot sex.
I really can’t wait for the next book in this series, February seems so far away.

Myla is beautiful, a dove with clipped wings, captive by the wolf, a vicious drug lord. One look into her eyes and Kyle could see the pain, the fear…the desperation. Or so it seems. He’s been fooled before by a woman and it cost him everything and everyone he loved. He won’t be fooled again.

Tall, dark, & deadly, these are the stories of the men who run Walker security. Each man is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

Review Spring Blog - Copy

The Walker Security series is the continuation of the Tall Dark and Deadly series. Kyle works for the Walker brothers and they are working to take down Michael Alvarez a purveyor of drugs and human trafficking. A key reason for their involvement is the possibility that one of their operative’s (Kara) sister, Myla, may be alive and under his control. Kyle is going in undercover as a bodyguard to someone close to Alvarez. That someone turns out to be Myla.

Myla is scared of Alvarez and of what he would do to her sister Kara if she comes for her. She hasn’t tried to contact Kara since she is presumed dead. Now Alvarez has a plan that will let Kara know in an indirect way that Myla is alive. Myla is a talented designer and he is giving her the chance to design her own line. Of course it will be a money laundering operation but will it also be more.

A favorite scene is after Myla has a phone conversation with Alvarez.

Grinding my teeth, I set the phone on the nightstand, my stupid hand trembling as I do, but I do not let myself sit here, where I will think and destroy myself. I stand up, the towel falling to the floor, the cold air rushing over my skin, and I am naked in so many ways right now that it’s impossible to comprehend. Suddenly, I just need a shirt to put on. I need Kyle’s shirt, and I twist around, noting the suitcase on the other side of the bed, by the living area rushing in that direction. Rolling it away from the couch, I lay it down, and settle on my knees, unzipping it and flipping open the lid, but instead of clothes, I find that arsenal of guns Kyle mentioned.

Inhaling, I reach for one of them, welcoming the cold, steel comfort a weapon will surely deliver. I choose a big one that requires two hands, one worthy of killing Michael Alvarez, the weight blissful in my hands, against my belly.

“Holy Mother of Jesus,” Kyle says from the doorway, setting the cups in his hands on the desk, his eyes wide. “This is one of the most confusing, erotic, disturbing – did I mention erotic? – sights I’ve ever seen.”

Only then do I fully register the fact that I’m holding a gun with my naked breasts on full display, my teeth scraping my bottom lip. “I was looking for a shirt.”

“Understood,” he says. “I always confuse shirts and guns, too. I’ll get you a shirt.” He walks to the closet to the right of the door, disappearing inside.
Deep Under (Tall, Dark and Deadly) (Kindle Locations 2865-2876). Julie Patra Publishing. Kindle Edition.

A lot of frustration on both sides as Kyle tries to gain Myla’s trust while determining if she is loyal to Alvarez. Tense situations sprinkled with humor. With enough twists and turns to have you holding your breath as you turn the pages.
