Loving four men is complicated. When the fate of an entire faerie realm is in your hands, it’s even harder.

Avery’s work in the faerie realm of Evermist is far from over. The “pale ones”–mindless, vampiric monsters–continue to wreak havoc. She also wonders whether the Shadow King and Queen are truly defeated. And worse, there’s a traitor somewhere in her ranks.

Unwilling to believe any of her men could be capable of such treachery, yet fearing that it might be the case, Avery is about to embark on her most difficult trials yet.

Melody of Souls is the third and final installment in the Lost Siren series, a reverse harem romance full of heat, humour, and adventure.

review-fall-cornucopia

Avery has mostly recovered from her ordeal with the Shadow King. She’s been recovering in Faerie, but now King Christophe reminds her it’s time to work on completing the prophesy. If there is any hope of defeating the Shadow king once and for all she’s going to need allies.

King Christophe requests to see his sons Marek and Charles, they’ve been avoiding him using Avery’s recovery as an excuse. Now they will go see him but only if Avery goes with them. The King knows he won’t live to see the end of the prophesy and he wanted to give his blessing to his sons being mated to Avery and to her other two mates.

Now it’s time for her to return to the Sirens, she’s met by Ligeia, the Hevarain and it’s a rather frosty greeting. The thing is Avery doesn’t know everything she should about being a siren let alone Queen of them. Apparently if she had come home to recuperate she may have been able to save more lives. Aside from that there is still the issue that they were betrayed before that battle, and it had to be one of her own kind.

After meeting with Ligeia, Avery and her mates head to the infirmary to visit with the injured. Hopefully with her here now, they could heal faster. It’s here that Avery learns who the traitor is.

This is a favorite scene.

The hospital wing was quieter than I had expected. The occasional groan of pain echoed through the large cavern, but most of the sirens simply lay in their beds without making a sound. The room looked nothing like how I’d imagined the siren version of a hospital. It was more cave than room, dug deep into the mountain. Glowing blue moss covered the walls, giving enough light to illuminate every corner of the cavern. The wooden beds were large and comfortable, nothing like the hospital beds you’d find on Earth. Sirens in flowing green robes moved around, whispering to the patients or holding their hands above the ill, treating them with magic.

One of them spotted us and hurried over. It was a young woman with flowing black hair that had a slight blue sheen, although that may have been due to the glowing moss. She looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite place her.

“Your Majesty.” She bowed low. “Thank you for coming.”

Her voice finally told me who she reminded me of. Laope. A relative. Daughter, maybe? Granddaughter? The way sirens aged was still a mystery to me.

Her eyes glowed golden for a second before she gave me a frown. “You’re not quite healed yourself yet. Would you like me to examine you?”

I waved her off. “I’m fine. Ligeia said my presence could help the ill and injured. Is there something specific I need to do?”

“No, just having you in the palace will do wonders. But I think the patients would appreciate it if you could talk to some of them.”

“Of course.”

“Avery,” Lysander said, “do you want us to go, or stay…?”

“Go, rest,” I said, giving him a smile. “I’ll meet you later in our rooms.”

He, Tarin, and Charles left, but Marek remained, his arms crossed over his chest. He seemed reluctant to leave me, and I shrugged. If he felt like standing around watching me talk to injured warriors, that was fine with me.

I started with the siren closest to me, a young woman who lay awake on her bed and was watching me with large, glassy blue eyes.

“Hi,” I said, plopping down on the stool next to her bed. “I’m Avery.”

“My Queen,” she breathed. “I’m Amalia. Thank you for being here.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t come earlier, Amalia,” I said.

She shook her head. “I’m glad to see you now.”

“May I take your hand?” I asked.

“Of course.”

Amalia’s skin was cold and clammy, but as I held her hand, she seemed to warm.

“Do you want to talk about anything?” I asked.

“No,” she breathed. “It’s simply nice being here with you.”

I sat with her until she drifted off into sleep, and then I visited the next siren, and the next. Some of them wore bandages, but others weren’t outwardly injured, that I could see.

My ass ached from sitting on the wooden stools, but I wasn’t about to complain. At least I was up and walking, when so many others were not. Several hours must have passed before I reached a man who looked about my age. His long, dark green hair fell in damp locks over his shoulders and pillow. His eyes were closed, so I simply sat at his side, hoping my presence might bring comfort in the weird way a siren queen’s magic worked.

Marek approached, his footfalls quiet on the stone floor. “Avery,” he whispered, “you’re exhausted. It’s time to go to bed.”

“Just a little while longer,” I said, not taking my eyes off the green-haired siren.

“I could have Tarin draw you a bath,” he said, a flirtatious lilt in his voice.

That got my attention… but no. There’d been plenty of time for me to bond with my mates over the past few days. What I hadn’t made time for was my own people, the sirens who were hurting and could get better faster if I were with them.

“Soon, I’ll come to the rooms,” I said.

“Very well.” He sighed and rubbed my shoulders for a moment. It felt heavenly as he worked out some of the knots I’d formed while sitting so long at each bedside.

After a few minutes, the siren in front of me opened his eyes. They were dark green, like his hair.

“My Queen,” he gasped.

“Yes,” I said. “I’m here. What’s your name?”

“My Queen, I must tell you–” His words broke off as he struggled for breath, and his eyes showed panic. His arm flopped as he tried to take something–my hand, I figured.

“Shh, it’s okay,” I said, giving him my hand.

He immediately calmed, then took a deep breath. “I have to tell you about Kerrigan.”

I exchanged a look with Marek. I’d never heard of Kerrigan, and from Marek’s expression, he hadn’t, either.

“All right,” I said. “Tell me about Kerrigan.”

The green-haired siren sighed. “He shouldn’t have… gone.”

I looked over at Marek and mouthed, Did he die?

Marek just shrugged.

“I’m so sorry,” I said. “Is he someone you loved?”

The siren frowned and hissed–just like a cat would. “No. No. Kerrigan is a traitor. He is the reason Laope and so many others fell.”

“Tell me more,” I said. “Please. Tell me everything you know.”

“I only know… what I saw and heard,” the siren said. “Kerrigan spoke to the Shadow King through a lunethe. He held it in the forest and I heard him speaking. He told the Shadow King of your plans, of how many we had with us, and our location.”

“He betrayed us,” Marek said, moving to pace at the end of the bed.

“Before I could warn you,” the siren said, “the pale ones had arrived. And Kerrigan made sure I was one of the first to fall. I am so sorry, my Queen, that I was unable to stop him in time. I’ve heard since… that so many of my brothers and sisters are dead…”

He broke down sobbing. I could sense his heartache, and it was so strong that he couldn’t stop shaking.

“You’ve done nothing wrong,” I told him. “You are a brave hero, and I thank you so much for all you’ve told me.”

He kept crying, his green eyes full of pain.

“I can help you sleep,” I said. “Would you like that?”

“Yes, my Queen. Please.” I hummed “All the Pretty Little Horses,” infusing it with just a touch of magic to help the poor guy fall asleep.

Once his eyes were closed, I turned to Marek. “It appears we know who betrayed us.”

“We do,” he agreed. “I can’t wait to face him.”

“I don’t know what the rules are here,” I said, “but he must be dealt with before he can betray us again.”

Standing, I left the green-haired siren’s side and went to the door. There, I nearly ran into Ligeia, who was coming in.

“What is it?” she said, likely taking in my grim expression. “Who is that green-haired siren in the corner over there?” I asked, pointing to the man we’d just talked to.

“That’s Ronan,” Ligeia said. “He hasn’t spoken to anyone since the battle.”

“He shared something very interesting with me,” I said.

“Did he?”

“Yes,” I said. “Take me to Kerrigan.”

“Kerrigan? My – my son?” she asked.

Oh, shit.
Skye MacKinnon; Liza Street. Melody of Souls: The Lost Siren Book 3 (Kindle Locations 260-317). Peryton Press.

Know that the traitor is Ligeia’s son doesn’t change the facts. It just changes where they will start their quest for allies. Apparently he’s hiding with the Vampires. Lysander goes first to pave the way, but Avery arrives sooner than he expects. The way she finds him, incurs her anger. Even as she agrees to complete a task to gain the Vampires as an Ally.

That is the first of several interesting quests Avery has to complete prior to facing the Shadow King again.

So many twists and turns, crazy action, and of course that sizzling heat between Avery and her mates, made this a book a couldn’t put down.

A perfect ending for Avery, Charles, Marek, Lysander and Tarin.

Shadow monsters, undead relatives, and a bodice that cuts into her boobs—in Avery’s opinion, the faerie realm isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Supposedly, it was Avery’s fate to journey to the Evermist. Here, she’s regarded as a symbol of hope and everyone has expectations of her, including her three guardians. While she hadn’t expected an amusement park full of little girls in princess dresses, Avery also hadn’t expected to be scared at every turn. But the Evermist is full of cruel monsters and terrifying shadows.

As Avery navigates her new role, her deepening relationship with her guardians, and a wardrobe full of beautiful-yet-uncomfortable dresses, she’ll have to make choices that will have repercussions worlds away.

With intrigues and betrayals at every corner, Avery will need to explore her magic and strength to fight the evil that has taken over the realm of her ancestors.

The second book in the Lost Siren series, Lullaby of Death is a steamy reverse harem adventure that will take you far from the familiar and into a magical yet dangerous land.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

When we left Avery she was alone by the portal in Evermist, this book starts right there and it’s been hours and still no sign of her guys. Just when she’s given up they are coming, she’s approached by a man she thinks at first is Charles. He’s a bit of a jerk and he’s to bring her to the Castle. His name is Malek and he’s Charles’ half brother. Avery doesn’t trust him after he tries to make her think he’s Charles, but she knows she can’t stay where she is with no shelter overnight.

The journey to the Castle was tense and all Avery wants is to be with her guys. The Queen isn’t so accommodating though, instead sending her to her room situated next door to Lysander’s. Also there were orders to keep her from Charles and mention of a woman Savannah. It’s Malek to informs her Savannah is Charles’ betrothed, but leaves out it was arranged when they were but children.

After a bit of a pity party, Avery decides to go find her men. She finds an ally in Bell, a niece of the Queen. Malek intercepts them before Avery could get Bell to take her where the guys might be. He finds suitable clothing for her to wear and takes her to where Charles, Tarin and Lysander are meeting with the Queen. Although the Queen is a bit peeved over it she dismissed all but Marek and Charles.

This is a favorite scene.

“I thought you were rotting in some dungeon!” I half-shouted, half-laughed. I shook with relief and the sudden absence of adrenaline. I wouldn’t have to break them out of the Queen’s prison cells. No more fighting today.

Tarin grabbed my wrists and held me in place, giving Lysander the perfect opportunity to snake his arms around my waist from behind. He pulled me against his hard chest and even harder cock. Wow, if my mere presence aroused him this much, what would happen once we retreated to my room?

“I missed you, little siren,” he whispered and gently dragged his fangs across the nape of my neck. A shudder ran down my back and I couldn’t help but lean into his touch. In this moment, I wanted nothing more than for him to bite me.

“Didn’t Charles’s brother tell you that we were in a meeting with the Queen?” Tarin asked, still holding my wrists. His eyes were burning with something that I couldn’t quite identify, but his voice was calm.

“He forgot to mention that,” I hissed, looking around for that bloody faerie, but he had quietly disappeared. Good, he’d escaped my wrath for now. I wouldn’t forget this, though. It may have been fun for him to play with my feelings, but it hadn’t been fun for me. He’d made me think that my guys were in trouble and that I was all alone. Bastard.

“I thought he looked a bit shifty.” Lysander licked my skin where his fangs had likely left some red scratches. Surprisingly, I didn’t mind at all. The happiness at seeing them again seemed to be messing with my mind.

Tarin lifted my left hand to his lips and pressed a tiny kiss on my knuckles, barely touching me, yet for him, it was as if he’d French kissed me with tongue and all. Was that passion in his eyes? Really? I decided Tarin and I would need some alone time soon to decipher our strange relationship.

“Are these your boyfriends?” a bright voice called from the other end of the corridor. I didn’t pay Bell any attention, but Tarin let go of my wrists and waved at her.

“Hey, little one.”

“I’m not little.”

“Yes, you are. You’d reach up to my navel, maybe? Definitely little. You’re the Queen’s niece, aren’t you?”

“How do you know who she is?” I asked. “Have you been here before?”

“Every pret knows the important people in the Evermist,” he explained as if that was obvious. “We grew up learning the names of royalty, politicians, leaders, and heirs. I may have never seen her, but she looks exactly like she does in the pictures. The blue hair kind of gives it away.”

“I’m important,” Bell confirmed chirpily. “I’m next in line to the throne.”

“Wait, isn’t that Charles?” I asked.

“It’s a matriarchy,” Tarin said. “I see we neglected your Evermist education.”

“It’s not like we had any time for that.” Lysander stopped licking my neck just long enough to say the words. It was strangely relaxing, even though I had to admit it was also a little gross. Was he preparing me for a bite?

“True. Fucking nerises got in the way.”

“Nerises?” Bell asked, her voice full of astonishment. “Real nerises?”

“Not anymore,” I chuckled darkly. “We killed them all.” Tarin snorted. “Technically we just swore an oath to the Queen not to tell anyone about that.”

“Well, she didn’t deign to tell me about that, so that doesn’t apply to me. Why didn’t she do this meeting for all four of us, anyway? And why didn’t we all land here together?”

“Let’s talk somewhere more private.” Tarin’s gaze flicked to Bell, who was still standing behind Lysander and me. “And I’m starving. Politics always make me hungry.”

“I’m thirsty,” Lysander whispered. My insides melted at the heat in his voice. I knew he wasn’t talking about water.

“Stop it, Ly. Get a grip,” Tarin admonished him. “I know it’s hard to focus, but we have things to discuss.”

“I can listen while I drink,” Lysander drawled, but with one last scorching kiss, he let go of me. My back instantly felt cold without his touch.

Reacquainting myself with the guys had instantly become number one on my list of priorities, far above figuring out my role in Evermist, what Marek was up to, how I’d get the Queen to see me as more than her puppet, and all the other issues that had arisen in the few hours since I’d arrived here. Wow, things were getting off to a busy start. Life in Evermist wasn’t going to be a holiday, that much was for sure. And I hadn’t even met another siren yet, let alone travelled to wherever the sirens lived.

Lysander took my hand and pulled me along, clearly desperate to get to a private place. Tarin followed us, as did Belle. She’d be disappointed once the guys closed the door in her face, but we really didn’t need a pre-teen watching us. She’d been helpful earlier and I’d make sure to keep her on my side, but right now, I had other things on my mind. Namely Lysander’s hard cock, his fangs, and—

“Wait!” Charles shouted from behind us.

I wriggled out of the vampire’s grasp and ran the way we’d come until I was in Charles’s strong arms. He hugged me tight, burrowing his face in my hair. I breathed in his ocean-side scent. Finally, I had all three of them with me again.

A aching hole in my chest, one I hadn’t even noticed until now, slowly closed, pushed shut by the happiness I felt at our reunion. Even though we’d only been together for such a short time, the three men had become part of me.

A wave of siren magic shot through my body and I felt my hair stand on end, as if I’d poked my finger into an electric socket. Pure power filled me, caressed me, begged to be used.

I had no need of it, though. This wasn’t a battle, there were no enemies to fight. The magic pressed against my skin, its begging turning into a demand.

Fuck.

“I might have a small problem,” I said, then clenched my teeth as I realised that talking distracted me from keeping a hold on all that power.

“I can feel it,” Charles said and stepped back, breaking our hug.

As soon as his touch disappeared, the pressure in me lessened a little, just enough to give me space to breathe.

“What’s going on?” Lysander was by my side in an instant. I hadn’t even seen him move.

“My magic… too much…”

Tarin appeared to my right, but he didn’t touch me. None of them did. I looked down at myself and gasped at the glow coming from my skin. I was glowing like a fucking lightbulb.

“I know what to do,” Tarin said. “Follow me.”

Charles reached for my hand, but as soon as we made contact, the pressure started building again.

I yanked my palm away from his. “What’s happening to me?”

“You’re going to be fine, lass,” Tarin said. “Trust me.”
Skye MacKinnon; Liza Street. Lullaby of Death: The Lost Siren Book 2 (Kindle Locations 417-468).

This is just the beginning of many unsatisfying meetings with the Queen. The introduction to Savannah was interesting to say the least, and there’s a bit of thievery and a rescue involved in that. Then there’s Malek who it seems Avery is attracted to in spite of their initial meeting. A prophesy told by Queen Moira is expanded on by Avery. Now things must be done, a quest of sorts, in order to save Evermist. In order to accomplish this she needs to get a handle on her powers so they travel to the Siren stronghold. Where we sort of meet her ancestors, and actually meet the folks holding everything together, for her.

From here things escalate quickly and viciously. Lots of action, surprises, and did I mention the sizzling heat, since Avery and her men can’t seem to keep their hands off each other unless they’re fighting…

I really can’t wait for the next book, there are many unanswered questions.

Vampire apocalypse? Check.
Three mysterious hotties? Check.
Prophecy about being the ‘chosen one’? That, too.

Avery is more interested in keeping herself fed – and supplied with toilet paper – during the vampire apocalypse than she is in saving the world. But when three mysterious hotties show up and proclaim her to be the long lost descendent of a famous siren, Avery is thrust into the very adventure she didn’t know she needed.

She didn’t want a quest. She didn’t want an entourage of preternatural being – a vampire, a werewolf, and a faerie lord. And she certainly didn’t want to fall in love.

It’s the end of the world…but what if the end of this one heralds the beginning of something new?

review-fall-cornucopia

All Avery wanted was toilet paper…what she gets is a Vampire, Lysander and an Elf/Siren hybrid, Charles. Well at first anyway.

She’s just about to get some answers when they have to run.

This is a favorite scene.

Charles rolled his eyes, not intimidated in the slightest, but he said, “I beg your forgiveness, mademoiselle, for my uncouth behaviour.” Posh and hot. I’d stepped into a Jane Austen novel. Quickly, I buttoned up my blouse and willed my cheeks to cool. “Would you guys please tell me what’s going on?” I asked. Now that I wasn’t flooded with desire, I felt embarrassed and vulnerable. Lysander was next to me in an instant. He drew me against him in a sideways hug that should have put me off, but felt comforting and right.

“I know this is strange for you, Avery,” he said, “but Charles and I are going to take care of you while we navigate the next phase of your Awakening.”

“My Awakening?” I felt like a damned parrot.

“Your transition to your true self has been thrown off course due to the Vandemic,” Charles explained. “As a result, you’re in danger of being left behind by your people as they journey to the Evermist. We’re going to help you reach them. It’s our duty and bond.”

I could only stare at him. Desire began to stir within me again. At the same time, I was starting to think I was surrounded by psychos.

“Cut that shit out,” I said.

“He’s not doing anything,” Lysander said with a chuckle. “That’s all you, love.”

“I’m not doing anything,” I protested. “And I had my period two weeks ago, so I shouldn’t feel like—”

I stopped before I could say anything even more embarrassing. The attraction wasn’t as strong this time, but still intense enough to make me squeeze my thighs together.

“It’s your siren nature responding to me,” Charles said with a smirk. “And judging from your reaction, you’re a strong siren indeed.”

“I’m not a siren,” I protested weakly. “I’m as human as they come. You’ve had your entertainment, now let me go.”

“We can’t,” Lysander said with something like regret swinging in his voice. “You’d be in danger out there now.”

“I’m in no more danger than I was this morning. The world is dangerous, full of vampires, and generally sucks. I’m used to that.”

“You don’t understand. You’re changing. I could sense it and so can others. Your Awakening is close and we need to make sure you’re safe.”

My head was beginning to hurt. “If this turns out to be a prank, I’m going to kill you. Slowly.”

Charles laughed. “I like her. She’ll fit right in.”

“Into what?”

The guys exchanged a look.

“Later,” Lysander said, not meeting my eyes. “For now, let’s sit down and talk about your siren heritage.”

The sound of breaking glass reached my ears at the same time both men stood up straight.

“Fuck,” Charles said. “They’re already here.”

I looked from him to Lysander. “Who? Who’s here?”

“Hunters. Come on, Avery.” Charles gathered me to him. “It’s time to run.”
Skye MacKinnon; Liza Street. Song Of Blood: The Lost Siren Book 1 (Kindle Locations 246-272).

She meets Tarin, a werewolf when they arrive at his home, she also meets Tasha another siren. Avery still hasn’t accepted that she’s something other than human, that will come though.

Avery finally finds out who she is supposed to be. A Lorelei siren, one of the most powerful beings out there. More importantly they need to travel to the Evermist. However Avery must be Awakened in order to make the journey and they need to protect Avery until they get the necklace she needs to accomplish it.

Plenty of action in this one, and the sensuous flirting is seriously hot. I also got a real kick out of the computer Avery accesses while in a safe room.

Dang the ending has me wanting more, right now.
