For Logan Anderson, moving on from a traumatic past means moving back to his hometown of Castle Rock, Colorado, to start a personal-security business with his brothers. But it’s not long before Logan runs into Grace Mason, his best friend from high school…and the woman who never answered his letters during his Army years.

Grace was pleasantly surprised to see Logan return to Castle Rock, despite their falling-out ten years ago. Everyone always assumed they would end up together, including Grace, who had eyes only for him. But as Logan eventually escaped their town, Grace got pulled further into her family’s controlling grasp—and farther away from the man she loved.

Now, united by scars both visible and not, the two must fight to free Grace from the suffocating hold of her family. But the Masons won’t let go easily—and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep the couple apart.

Winter Blog Review

When it comes to really tough subjects Susan Stoker has a knack of bringing out the truth of things while wrapping you into the story she weaves. Although this book contains incidents and stories of abuse that may be triggers or be disturbing to some individuals, it is informative and a reminder that abuse can happen no matter what your means.

Logan and his brothers have returned to Castle Rock to bury their father. Their mother had always been abusive and they lived with it until they were old enough to leave. Their father paid the ultimate price, his life and their mother killed herself after doing the deed.

Because of this and their childhood Logan and his brothers are starting a security company to aid those men who might otherwise never come forward.

Now Grace on the other hand, knows what her parents inflict on her is abuse but she can’t figure a way out. Her parents are manipulative and emotional abusers. The last straw is when the set their sights on someone they want her to marry.

Grace and Logan had a relationship in school, when he left to join the Army they vowed to write and she would wait for him. But he didn’t write and Grace finally stopped waiting.

Now she sneaks out of her parents home to be with her friend Felicity. She has her own apartment but her parents always need something and she spends more time at their home than her own.

This is a favorite scene from the party Felicity and Cole have at the gym.

“You were my safe harbor, Grace,” Logan told her honestly. “When I was with you, I felt like the man my mother never let me be. I felt as though you liked me for who I was. That night at the football game, when you wore my shirt, it felt good. I realized that I liked being around you. I liked looking after you. I liked protecting you.”

“I liked it too.” Her words were soft and Logan breathed out a sigh of relief. He knew he was bungling this, and he probably sounded like a pussy, but he shouldn’t have worried. The Grace he knew wouldn’t make fun of him or make him feel bad about his feelings. He went on.

“So, when I left that morning, I was being completely serious about wanting you to move in with me once I got settled. I thought you felt the same way, but when you didn’t answer my letters, I figured you’d changed your mind. Or found someone else to be with.” Logan shrugged, trying to be nonchalant about the explanation. The words seemed too inadequate to explain the hell he’d gone through at the time.

“Wait, what?”

“It’s okay,” Logan hurried to reassure her. “Again, we were young. I never really told you how I felt, other than that morning at the bus station. That’s on me. After a while, when I didn’t hear from you, other than getting my letters sent back, I figured it was selfish of me to ask you to be an Army girlfriend. I moved every two years. You would have had to quit your job if you came with me with every change of station. Not to mention the deployments and long hours. I also figured you’d moved on from this town to follow your dreams and probably found the man of your dreams to share it with.”

Logan stopped talking when Grace put her hand on his arm and dug her fingernails into it. He had no idea if she knew what she was doing or not, but her words caught him by surprise.

“You didn’t write.”

He looked at her in confusion. “I did,” he insisted. “Every week when I was in Basic, and then every so often after that. For almost an entire year.”

“No, you didn’t,” she insisted.

Logan was getting angry now. “Grace. I did. I should know, I was the one who wrote the letters. Handwrote them, by the way, not typed. I was the one who waited every day for you to write me back, to acknowledge me. But you sent them all back, except for the last one. Unopened. The last few you even wrote, ‘I’m dating someone. Leave me alone,’ on the back.”

Grace didn’t respond, but leaned over her knees and started to hyperventilate.

“Grace! Shit. What’s wrong? Are you okay? You need to slow your breathing down or you’ll pass out. Come on, Smarty, breathe.” The nickname he’d given her when they were kids popped out without thought. “You’re scaring me, Grace. Take a deep breath. Good. Another. Keep doing that. Yeah, that’s it.”

Finally, when her breathing had slowed down and gotten close to normal, Grace turned her head to look at him. She hadn’t bothered to sit up, just stayed huddled over her knees.

“I didn’t get any letters.”

He barely heard the whispered words. Logan didn’t believe her. “It’s fine, Grace. I’m over it. It was a long time ago.”

“I. Didn’t. Get. Any. Letters,” she enunciated slowly, then closed her eyes and put her forehead back on her knees. Her voice was muffled, but Logan heard every word as if they were knives plunging into his heart.

“I waited. Every day after my college classes I rushed home to check the mail. And every day, there wasn’t anything from you. At first I told myself you were just busy. I can imagine how Basic Training is. You were probably really tired, and didn’t have time to write me. It was fine. After eight weeks went by, I thought for sure you’d start writing.

But every day I was told there was nothing. I was writing you, though. I must’ve written at least fifty letters. I figured I’d save them and send them all at the same time, as soon as I got your address. But you never wrote. So I figured you were just being nice that morning at the bus station.” Grace’s voice trailed off, and she didn’t look up.

Logan was frozen in disbelief. Suddenly he sprang up and paced in front of her. Neither of them said anything for a few moments. Finally, Logan stopped in front of Grace and put both hands in his hair, holding onto his temper by a thread. “Grace, I swear to you, I wrote. I poured my heart into those letters. I made it through the eight weeks of hell that was Basic because I thought you were waiting for me. I couldn’t wait to see you again.”
Stoker, Susan. Claiming Grace (Ace Security Book 1) (pp. 58-61). Montlake Romance. Kindle Edition.

Things heat up from here in more ways than one. Bradford and his parents aren’t thrilled with Grace’s parents ideas. However, Grace and Bradford had long decided to be just friends even though his sister Alexis doesn’t quite understand that.

Logan finds there are many more types of abuse than the physical and vows to be with Grace.

An emotional and heart wrenching story as the journey to happiness meets extreme circumstances for all involved. Keep those tissues handy, you will definitely need them.

Shelter for Adeline
Texas Heroes Book 7

Winter Blog Blurb

Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn’t look like she’ll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she’s about to have an epileptic seizure—and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.

Dean—known as “Crash” to his friends—didn’t expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he’s blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct—along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean’s feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.

As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away…and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

Winter Blog Review

We meet Adeline as she is on a first date with a guy registered on a dating site. It quickly went downhill when her service dog, Coco, alerts her she has a seizure impending. Jerk leaves her instead of helping her find the safe place she requested.

Fortunately Dean aka Crash a paramedic from Firehouse 7 is there. He doesn’t think twice about it and brings her across the street to the firehouse. I fell in love right then, but even more in this scene after her seizure.

She took a deep swallow and sat back with a sigh. As quickly as she relaxed, her body tensed and she sat forward as if she was about to stand up. “Well, thank you for helping me out, I appreciate it. I should get going.”

“Stay,” Crash immediately protested. “At least for a while.”

“I’m really all right,” Adeline said softly. “Unfortunately, I’m used to the seizures and they don’t wreck me like they used to.”

Crash sat on the couch next to her. He felt exactly like he did the first time he’d asked a girl out in the seventh grade. Nervous and hopeful at the same time. “It’s not that, I…damn. Okay, if you’re sure.”

“What is it?” Adeline asked, looking concerned now. “Did something happen while I was out of it?”

“No,” Crash protested immediately. “Nothing like that… Are you seeing anyone?”

She looked taken aback at his question, but Crash was relieved when she answered immediately without looking away from him. “No. Why?”

“The guy at the diner wasn’t your boyfriend?”

Adeline wrinkled her nose adorably. “No. First—and last—date.”

“You never got to eat. Want to go back across the street and grab something…with me?”

“Are you asking me out?”

“Yes. Obviously very badly, since you have to clarify,” he said sheepishly.

“Oh…well…you don’t have to babysit me. I’m okay. Honest.”

“I don’t want to babysit you,” he said immediately.

The fact of the matter was he did want to keep his eye on her for a while to make sure she was okay after the seizure. But it wasn’t just that. He was nervous…which was out of character for him. Asking women out usually didn’t faze him. But for some reason, Adeline had gotten to him.

“I’d like to get to know you,” he told her honestly. “And you have to be hungry.” He added the last bit to try to cajole her.

“You don’t care that I have epilepsy?”

“No.”

“Or that I have a dog?”

“No. I love dogs.”

She considered him for a long moment, then finally nodded. “Okay. Then yes, I’d like to have lunch with you.”

“Thank God,” Crash breathed out and pantomimed wiping sweat from his brow.

Adeline chuckled.

Crash stood and held his hand out to her. “Lunch awaits.”

Taking his hand, she stood as well. He kept hold of hers as he led the way to the door. Feeling her small, smooth fingers around his as they walked made Crash smile. There was just something about her that made him feel as though he could do anything.

Maybe he was an idiot. Maybe Adeline was a horrible person. But as stupid as it seemed, for some reason, Crash felt as if he was taking the first steps toward his future.
Stoker, Susan. Shelter For Adeline (Kindle Locations 171-194).Kindle Edition.

I loved Crash’s nervousness as he asks her for a date. Their first real date was just inspiring. I wish guys would really give as much thought to a date as Dean did.

As their relationship develops she meets his other teammates as well as the law enforcement friends from this series. Including Penelope and the wives that readers love so very much.

Adeline is looking for a new job, her boss is an arse who steals credit for everyone’s work. He’s always trying to get her to have lunch with him to discuss her ideas for his clients. She really dislikes him and tries to be pleasant. Dean hasn’t met him and doesn’t like him and I was with him in that opinion. I don’t know if I would have been as nice as Adeline.

Lots of love, compassion and some pretty steamy sex as we watch Dean and Adeline’s attraction become more. Love is never too quick to surface when the pairing is right.

As always there are situations that bring to light the issues faced when one has a disability. This one gives a glimpse of a few of those specific to service dogs.

We also get to know Roman aka Chief, in this one. I love this man, but Susan has someone picked out for him…as we find out at the end of this book.

Once you start reading be prepared to finish the book, you won’t want to put it down for anything.

My Review of Susan Stoker’s Protecting Caroline – SEAL of Protection Book 1

Protecting Caroline
SEAL of Protection Book 1
By
Susan Stoker

blurb-fall-cornucopia

**Protecting Caroline is a stand-alone love story. It’s Book 1 in the SEAL of Protection Series.**

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

review-fall-cornucopia

There is no question this is one of my absolute favorite SEAL books.

Matthew “Wolf” Steel, Christopher “Abe” Powers and Sam “Mozart” Reed are headed to Norfolk. They had two weeks before they were scheduled to leave from there on their next mission. Their intention, to spend most of that time with their friend “Tex” a medically retired SEAL. Tex has some truly awesome computer skills and frequently aids their missions.

Caroline is a chemist heading to her new job in Norfolk when she meets Matthew. She switched seats with him so he could be more comfortable during the four hour flight from San Diego. A flight that was destined to be a disaster. That is until Caroline smells something off with the ice in the drink she was served. The three SEALs on board with a little help from Caroline, prevent the terrorists from succeeding. It’s then that Caroline earns the nickname “Ice”.
This is a favorite scene at the airport the day after the excitement on the plane.

Looking around and not seeing any sign of Ice, Mozart said dejectedly, “I really thought she’d still be here.”

“We should probably go and catch our ride,” Abe added quietly as disappointed as Mozart was at not finding the woman who’d saved their lives.

Wolf gave them an incredulous look. “Are you guys blind? She’s right there,” and he turned his back and headed for Caroline. She was standing by herself near a wall with her eyes closed. She was obviously wearing the same clothes as the day before. Guilt hit Wolf hard. Damn.

Even though she looked exhausted and miserable, Caroline looked great to him. Wolf was so damn relieved she was still here he felt his toes tingling. He couldn’t wait to talk to her again. He was so gone.

Abe and Mozart were close on Wolf’s heels as he headed toward her.

“Damn, I didn’t even see her,” Abe apologized to Wolf quietly.

“Me neither, Abe,” Mozart commiserated. “She doesn’t draw any attention to herself does she?”

Wolf reached Caroline first. She hadn’t heard him walk up and he didn’t want to scare her.

“Caroline?” He whispered.

Caroline was in her own world. Imagining she was sleeping in a big bed when she heard her name. Her eyes flew open. Crap. How had someone snuck up on her? She was obviously more tired than she’d thought.

Her brain realized it was Matthew before her body did, but she couldn’t stop herself from lurching to the side and away from the perceived threat. Wolf was ready for her reaction and grabbed her arm to keep her from falling. Caroline could feel his hand brush against her wounded side as he held her arm gently. It took everything in her to not flinch with pain. For some reason she didn’t want this incredible man to know she’d been hurt. Caroline and Wolf just looked at each other for a moment then Mozart and Abe were there.

“Here you are! We’ve been looking for you, Ice,” Abe exclaimed.

“For me?” Was all Caroline could get out she was so surprised. “Why?”

“SEALs don’t leave SEALs behind. Ever.” He said with complete seriousness.

“And? I’m not a SEAL,” Caroline said befuddled.

“Maybe not in truth, but you saved our lives, that makes you one of us in our eyes,” Mozart answered, completely serious.
Stoker, Susan. Protecting Caroline (SEAL of Protection Book 1) (pp. 78-80). Stoker Aces Production, LLC. Kindle Edition.

This was just the beginning, Caroline now has a price on her head. The terrorists want to know how she knew something was in the ice.  She’s not talking not to anyone. We get a little bit of everything in this book a stalking, break-in, witness protection, kidnapping, torture and a love story you will not be able to put down.

At just ten years old, Tommy has already been through more horror than most people suffer their entire lives. So when he’s placed in his latest foster home, under the gentle care of Abe and Alabama Powers, he lashes out. He’s scared, confused, angry…and convinced it won’t be long before these new foster parents send him away, too. No one wants a boy his age, especially one who’s broken, dirty.

It’ll take all of Alabama and Abe’s love, the sibling adoration of his foster sisters, Brinique and Davisa, and Abe’s entire extended SEAL family, to prove to Tommy that being nice, being respectful, and opening his heart to love are things he can choose. Even still, despite so much support, it’s hard for Tommy to believe he deserves a loving family, and a second chance at happiness.

Until three of the most unexpected friends arrive, just when Tommy needs them the most. They’ll show him just how special he is…even if they have to use a little magic to prove it.

What can break through to even the most frightened child’s heart? Why cats of course.

But Fatty, Boba and Jango  are no ordinary cats, these are the familiars of Zelda a witch from Assjacket, West Virginia. As such they can do some things that no normal house cats can do. Like talk to the children, but they also have a reason for coming to the Power’s household. That reason is Tommy, they need to help him adjust to his new family and help him get rid of the ball of black goo that strangles him at times.

Christopher aka Abe and Alabama have again opened their hearts and home to a foster child with the intent to adopt. Tommy has been through more in his 10 years than any child should ever have to. He lashes out at just about anything kind, struggling to accept Brinique and Davisa as sisters and even the thought of having parents has him striking out. A favorite scene with the cats and Tommy is shortly before they head to the beach to meet up with the rest of the SEAL team and their families.

“I can’t wait to go to the beach,” Jango purred. “I’ve heard there’s all sorts of stinky things that get washed up on the shore.”

“Dead stinky things,” Boba returned. “If you eat them, you’ll get a stomachache then puke hairballs over the place.”

“Will not.”

“Will so.”

“Not.”

“So.”

“Tommy, think your mom will get us some salmon when we’re there? I heard the beach is a good place to get some top-notch fish. West Virginia isn’t exactly fish central. Although I’m sure Zelda could conjure us up some, she’s serious about this stupid diet she’s put us on,” Jango mused.

“Hildy never made us diet,” Boba grouched. “I bet if we purred real loud and rubbed up against some of the other women, they’d give us salmon.”

“Argh!” Tommy screamed, putting his hands over his ears. “I used to think it was cool that you guys could talk. Now it’s just annoying. I’m going to get some breakfast. I can’t wait to go to school to get away from you three!” And with that, Tommy stomped out of his room.

Boba and Jango grinned at each other.

“That didn’t take long,” Jango said.

“Nope. Getting him to want to go to school. Goal one, check,” Boba agreed.

“The others won’t be as easy.”

Boba sobered. “No, they won’t. But this weekend we’ll check the next two off.”

“Yeah.” Jango was silent for a moment and Fatty walked into the room just as he said, “Next week’s when it’s supposed to happen, right?”

“Right,” Fatty said. “He’ll be ready.”

“Are you sure?” Boba asked, nervously. “He hasn’t been here that long. I’m not sure he’ll have a chance to really acclimate. If he doesn’t bond with Alabama, Abe, Brinique, and Davisa, it’s not going to work. He’s not going to be ready.”

“He’ll be ready,” Fatty repeated stubbornly.

Jango and Boba didn’t look convinced, but nodded anyway.

“Come on, we don’t want to miss breakfast,” Fatty told the others, turning back toward the door.

It was as if he’d said the magic words. Boba and Jango sprang past Fatty as if the room was on fire. Not wanting to be left behind, and more importantly, not wanting his friends to get more food than him, Fatty jogged after them, his butt wiggling back and forth as he went.
Stoker, Susan. Magic and Mayhem: Protecting Alabama’s Kids (Kindle Worlds Novella) (SEAL of Protection Book 9) (Kindle Locations 423-443). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

While the cats are a lot of fun with their antics there is a very serious side to this story. An extremely emotional tale that had me laughing, crying and even holding my breath. Susan has once again taken difficult subjects and made them into a page turning read that embraces the seriousness while adding a lot of fun.

Saylor responds to her ex’s wedding invitation with a plus one. Only problem is she doesn’t have the plus one. Busy with her new business and really having no intention of really attending, her brother decides she should. It will be good for business. He has an idea for the plus one and calls in a marker to her first love. This one is going to be so good. I really wanted to read more but it’s not out until November. Calendar is marked and I am counting the days until release.

SummerSm Blurb

This is a deleted scene story, My Always — Every marriage has a moment—it defines the future, it settles doubt. That moment comes for Keira Riley-Hale when her marriage is threatened and she forgets how to find her way back to her husband. Will a brief getaway to the Tennessee mountains bring Keira and Kona to the moment that changes everything in their marriage? Or will that moment never come?

SummerSm Review

There has been cause for Kiera to have guilt, lots of it. Almost destroying her marriage because of lies and deception brought about by a man she thought she could trust. Now that the culprit is gone from there lives she has to get past her guilt and open up to her husband again.

Kona has never strayed, never truly given her reason to doubt his love. A break from day to day stresses at their cabin in the Tennessee mountains will either make or break them.

I confess I haven’t read these books but the pain, heartbreak and love that I feel in this epilogue definitely sends me to purchase them.

A sexy quarterback and an adventurous princess turn some serious sexual tension into the romance of a lifetime.

SummerSm Review

Who doesn’t love a football star and a Princess story? I am a big football fan and have been for most of my life. As such I had some problems with the scoring as described. First there was reference to a one point field goal lead. Field goals are 3 points. As the game is described there were 2 touchdowns for the Knights. If both include good extra point kicks that would be 14 points. A single point lead with that would either be a 2 point conversion on one of the touchdowns instead of the kick for 1, or a safety.

My next issue was the quarterback getting credit for the touchdowns. A Quarterback gets the win and credit for completed passes, not the touchdowns themselves unless the receiver is in the end zone or a quarterback sneak or he runs it in himself.

The Bootleggers won with a score of 23, and had 3 touchdowns. That’s 21 with all the extra point kicks. So either they did two 2 point conversions or they missed the extra point on one and got a field goal to make that score.

You are probably wondering why I bring this up when it’s a romance novel. That’s simple really, it threw me out of the story trying to figure out the logic of the scoring.

Since Bella is a major football fan and Kyle is a first string Quarterback, I would expect the story to reflect accurate information.

As much as I like the concept, it isn’t for me unless things are more accurately depicted.

So much fun! I love Annie and how Emily worries about her. The things Annie comes out with are reminiscent of when my own children were little. Definitely can put a damper on the whole dating thing. A lot of laughs and continuous fun! Bowling, roller skating, and dinner. With Emily and Fletch falling deeper into love. I can’t wait to read more about this blooming relationship.

I love weddings and this one is one of the best I’ve ever read. Set on a beach in Hawaii, it’s a perfect setting for romance. From the description of the Bride’s dress to their vows. Jude and Reagan’s wedding is perfect. I am definitely adding this to my TBR pile.

Elizabeth Parkins lived through a nightmare come true—getting kidnapped by a serial killer. Seeking a fresh start, she moves to Texas, but escaping her demons proves impossible when she’s too terrified to leave her own apartment. A small, accidental fire sparks a coping method she’d never expected, and brings an amazing man to her door.

Firefighter Cade “Sledge” Turner’s idyllic life ended the day his sister was kidnapped. Now he knows firsthand that tragedy can befall anyone, at any time. Meeting Elizabeth on the job was a gift. Cade can envision spending his life with this woman. He understands what she’s been through, is willing to help her heal…though even Cade is unaware of Beth’s new secret obsession.

As Beth takes steps to help herself heal, and Cade attempts to earn her trust and prove his own, they’re both about to be tested—in a way that could see everything they’ve worked for go up in flames.

* Shelter for Elizabeth is the 5th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

I love meeting the characters in this series, I am loving the Heroes and Heroines. But this one takes us even further. For those of you who have read the SEALs Of Protection Series you will remember Cade’s sister Penelope from Protecting The Future and Beth from Protecting Summer. This is Beth’s story.

Beth suffers from agoraphobia, the fear of leaving the safety of her apartment. While not a total inability for her to leave, there are only certain conditions under which it is possible. When she inadvertently starts a grease fire in her kitchen she calls 911.

Cade Turner is one of the firefighters responding to the call and recognizes her panic attack as another firefighter tries to lead her outside; away from the smoke and to the medics waiting outside. He is the one to help her calm and when his sister Penelope shows up they are both in for a surprise. Penelope met Beth at their therapy group and she often helps Beth by taking her shopping for the things she can’t get online.

Cade is interested in Beth but dismissed those feelings until his sister showed up. Now he is more interested than ever.

One of my favorite scenes is after a shopping trip that is started by Penelope and finished by Cade. An unexpected event happens on the way back to Beth’s apartment and leads to him spending the night. This is the morning after.

He felt her smile and opened his eyes and pulled back. He wanted to see it for himself. Yup, it was small and tentative, but it was there. “Thank you, sweetheart. That’ll keep me going until I can see you again.”

Beth pushed a lock of her hair behind her other ear and he could tell it took some effort, but she said, “I’m looking forward to it.”

Cade leaned down, brushed a quick kiss over her now swollen lips and stepped back. He wanted more, but he was patient. She needed to know that he wasn’t going to rush her into anything she might not be ready for. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her. “I’ll message you later. I have three days on and two days off this week, so I won’t have a lot of free time to see you, but I’ll touch base electronically…all right?”

“Yeah. That sounds good.”

“If you need anything, though, let me know and I’ll take care of it.”

“I’ll be fine.”

“I know you will. Do me a favor?”

“What’s that?”

“Try not to hack into the President’s email until I can get you on the FBI’s payroll, okay? Courting you while you’re in prison would cramp my style.”

Beth laughed, as he’d meant her to. “Can’t promise, but I’ll see what I can do.”

“I’d appreciate that. Have a good day, sweetheart. I’ll be in touch soon.”

“Bye, Cade.”

“Bye.”
Susan Stoker. Shelter for Elizabeth (Kindle Locations 921-929).

A complex series of events and a desire for normalcy leads Beth to a compulsion that could cause the end of her and Cade’s relationship.

Cade’s unfailing devotion and love gets tainted by accusations instead of rational discussion.

I know this couldn’t have been easy to write, what with panic attacks described very realistically.  Cade’s patience as he courts Beth, was both humorous and sweet. At least until they hit the sheets, then it became sizzling (pun intended).

I laughed, I cried both happy and sad tears during the journey this book takes us on.  I also loved seeing so many characters from the previous books.

About the Hot SEALs Kindle World

With years of dedication to the Navy, SEAL Jon Rudnick and his teammates have confirmed one thing – they are not afraid to risk life and limb for their country. But when navigating military red tape begins to present more challenges than the enemy, this band of combat-hardened veterans is divided. While some remain actively serving, others take their drive, skills, and expertise to the private sector, where they form GAPS (Guardian Angel Protection Services). In these roles, will the SEALs fight for the women they love with the same vigor they use to seek out enemy threats? Which battlefield will you have them face next?

Interview

Please join me in welcoming

Maryann Jordan   Maryann Jordan

She graciously answered some questions for me about her writing.

What attracted you to writing about SEALs?

My last series was about a Special Forces team that retired from the Army and began a security firm. It may seem like an overdone theme, but there are so many readers that love this genre. My husband had been in Army Intelligence and I wanted to create a team of brothers that continued their service after retiring.

What’s a typical day of writing for you? Are you a planner or do you wing it?

I am a complete planner! I have to have everything plotted out. I start out with an idea, develop it, begin making notes about it. Create an outline, storyboards and then begin writing. The story may go in different directions after I begin writing and the characters talk to me, but I have to have a plan to begin.

How do you decide where your book will take place?

All of my books take place in Virginia (I’m a 30 year resident of VA and love it!) I create fictional cities, but many people familiar with Virginia will recognize the locations.

What is your favorite part of writing? What is your least favorite part?

Favorite part is the creative juices that bring fictional characters to life. Readers tell me that my characters appear to be people they would like to know. I do a lot of editing to make the writing as good as it can be and that can seem vary tedious. I get so nervous when I first send it to beta readers until I hear back that they like it!

What genres do you enjoy reading? Do you have any favorite authors?

My favorite genre is the one I like to write in – Romantic Suspense. Although, I began reading historical romances way back in the 1970’s and they hold a special place in my heart.
My all time favorite author would be the amazing Kristen Ashley. She writes with abandon…not following anyone’s rules of writing. I find it fresh, exciting, and completely captivating.
Amy Harmon’s Making Faces was an amazing contemporary romance and moved me to tears, which is hard to do!

Do you think that social media is important for an author to be involved in?

Extremely important, especially for indie authors. I need to connect with readers and have gained many new readers just by interacting with them on social media. I have readers who have read my books and write to tell me how they meant something to them, or a shared experience. I love this!

If you could be a character in a book, which one would it be, and what part would you play? (Romantic lead, sidekick, etc)

When I was a child and read (voraciously), I always put myself into the book during my playtime (or even daydreams). My Barbies became Nancy Drew (and her friends, George and Bess).
As an adult, I would love to be the romantic lead (never the sidekick). If I were to choose one of my books, it would have to be the first one I wrote, Emma’s Home. I could easily see myself as Emma, search for a place to put down roots…and meeting Jake would be the bonus!!

Blurb Spring Blog - Copy

A private investigation business, pulling together men from the CIA, FBI, ATF, DEA, Border Patrol, SEALs, and police, devoted to the missions that no one else wanted or could solve.

Jude Stedson was a SEAL…at least until an injury while on a mission left him with an honorable medical discharge and no direction. He even relegated his girlfriend to friend only status until he could decide what he wanted to do with a life that had been dedicated to the SEALS.

Sabrina Taggart loved the man…not the career title. But until she could prove that their love would continue, she took the role of friend…just to stay close.

When a con artist set his sights on her family, Jude steps in, willing to work with her cousin, a member of the Saints P&I. Keeping Sabrina safe gave him a new mission. Discovering that mission gave him purpose. When her life was threatened, Jude knew that nothing would stop him from saving her…or admitting his love for her.

Can he prove that he has what it takes to be a Saint?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

I love books with strong women and Sabrina takes strong to a whole new level. Having been in a committed relationship with Jude before his injury she hasn’t wavered in her feelings for him at all. Even when he repeatedly pushed her away and was cruel she stood by him. Finally accepting the position of friend in order to stay close even though her love was stronger than ever.

Forced out of the SEALs by his injury, Jude is sailing a desk at Norfolk. Unhappy in his career and doubting his self-worth he is trying to find something that will make him worthy of Sabrina, the woman he loves beyond all reason.

Sabrina’s grandmother Amelia throws a party and Jude meets some interesting characters. Bart, Sabrina’s cousin who works for Saints Protection and Investigations introduces him to Jack his boss. They give him interesting alternatives to the boring job he is doing now. Former team members from all different branches working together as a cohesive unit to solve problems on and off the grid.

A con-artist using the premise of being able to contact their late husbands for investment advice, targets Amelia and some of her elderly friends. After consulting with Bart, Jude decides to do a bit of investigating of this Nastelli guy and see what the angle is. Better to bring him down before he ruins these lovely ladies. Sabrina, however, almost beats him to it. He spots her just before she does something incredibly dumb. This is a favorite scene that takes place the morning after he catches her.

“I just thought since you want to consider doing investigations as a possible job, then maybe you should get Bart or his boss, Jack, involved in how we should proceed with this mess.”

“We? Babe, there is no we in this.”

“You know what Jack said. If Nastelli gets a hint you’re checking him out then he’ll leave town. I thought you all wanted to stop him from doing this to other vulnerable women.”

“I know, but maybe I can convince him that I want to use his services.” Shaking her head, she said, “Look, Jude. I’ve been thinking about this. Nonnie has already talked to Mr. Nastelli about me and my trust. Maybe I could meet with him, convince him that I’m interested and see what that gets us.”

“Hell, no!” he shouted, sitting up in the bed. “I don’t want you near this guy!”

Arguing for several more minutes, Sabrina flopped back down on the bed in frustration. “Fine. Then talk to Jack. See what he thinks.”

Reluctantly agreeing, he called Bart later that morning, after she went to work, and within a few minutes had Jack on the line. Much to his chagrin, Jack agreed with Sabrina.

“Look, Jude. Do your research first when planning a mission. No con artist that is as good as this guy is, will ever talk to you. He’s smart and his self-preservation is at an all-time high. Tell you what, we’ll do a phone conference with you and my group when you get a little more information to see what the next course of action should be.”

Jude agreed, then called Sabrina back. “I’m going to work with Jack’s group on this and if, and only if, they think we have no other choice, then you can help.”

After getting her agreement to not act independently, he disconnected the call and leaned back on the sofa, running his hands through his hair once more. Jesus, Bart makes this sound so easy. Hell, so do Zane and Rick. If this is going to be my new career and keep Sabrina in my life… I’ve got to figure out how to make this work.
Hot SEALs: Revealing Love (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Saints Protections & Investigations Book 3) (Kindle Locations 753-772). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

A fast paced read, with lots of tense situations and plenty of hot sex. Plus the sexy men from two of my favorite agencies. A definite must read.

My SEAL Bodyguard by Paige Tyler

12510457_10207785589893665_8525181240548750378_n

She writes about danger for a living and now she find herself in it. Only a Navy SEAL can save her.

When someone breaks into romance author Peyton Matthews’ Virginia Beach home to steal her newest manuscript, her publisher hires Noah Chase, a former Navy SEAL and the newest member of GAPS to be her bodyguard.

Peyton thinks the idea of needing a bodyguard is ridiculous, but she can’t help appreciating how gorgeous Noah is. And while she thought that having a stranger hanging around 24/7 would mess with her creativity, the Navy SEAL definitely comes in handy when she’s choreographing fight scenes.

All that hand-to-hand action and rolling around on the floor with him gets her pulse racing, but while Noah is falling for Peyton too, he doesn’t act on it. He needs to keep his head in the game and focus on the job or he could end up getting her killed. She might not think she’s in danger, but his gut tells him differently.

The threat to Peyton is closer to home than she realizes however, and it will take all of Noah’s SEAL training to save her life.

Darwin’s Evolution by Siobhan Muir

12512524_523354934510697_938212629905457935_nSometimes retirement is a helluva lot of work…

Retired Marine Master Sergeant Sadie Hawkins is ready for a quiet life with her mother in northern Arizona. No more recon, no more shots fired. Hell, she might even give romance a try if she finds the right guy. Like the one asleep on her shoulder on the train.

Cyrus “Darwin” Finch retired from the Navy SEALs and now runs Ultimate Recon, a security, surveillance, and rescue company employing retired members of the four branches of the U.S. military. He’s on “forced” vacation and is supposed to relaxing, dammit. Until he meets Sadie.

When they discover a foreign enemy setting up a domestic retreat in Sadie’s backyard, romance and vacations take a backseat. There are no calm seas or clear skies with bullets flying, and no time for a Happy Ever After. But SEALs never give up and Marines never surrender.

I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I “cut my romance teeth” on the old bodice ripper romance books. Last year I started a blog to showcase wonderful writers. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma’s Home was created.

I work as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 32 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

Donna Michaels

It’s all my mother’s fault. She read to me before I could read and opened up that magical world where I still reside today. Then came television and movies. Now I had three avenues that fed my imagination…and boy could I eat! As you no doubt figured out, this lead to my writing career. I’m a NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon Bestselling Award winning author. Phew, that was a mouthful! Multi-published in e-book and print with several publishers, I certainly have a ton of voices in my head.

I’m happily married to a military man for 28 years. We have four children and several rescued cats. Michael’s been in the Army National Guard since before he graduated. The Guard has been a part of our lives right from the start. It was only natural for the military to spill into my writing. God bless the military and their families. Thank you all for your sacrifices.

You already know my mom inspired my love of reading, but it was my dad who got me hooked on movies. Even now, if I had the time, I could happily go from one movie to another all day long. They are the reason I love mixed genre and why I can’t just stick to just one in my writing, although, as you can tell, I have a soft spot for cowboys and the military.

Well, that’s about it. Thanks for getting to know me a little better. Remember, keep reading to your children. The journey you’re igniting is precious. And the next time you’re at the movies, turn around. I just might be the person sitting behind you. No, not the one throwing popcorn (it’s too expensive to waste). I’m the one already imagining the sequel. Have a great day and thanks for reading!

KaLyn Cooper

Born and raised in a small town in New York close to the Pennsylvania line, we water skied in the summer months on the lake and snow skied all winter. One a cold January night while clomping through the lodge I literally ran smack into the man I’d eventually marry. His high school was ninety-six miles from mine but we made the long-distance relationship work.

While I was at Penn State, he went to the United States Naval Academy and chose the Marines upon graduation. I followed him throughout his military career living on Army, Air Force and Marine Corps bases, making sixteen moves and meeting some of the most wonderful people in the world.

Working in Public Relations all over the country and in Japan, I’ve written for international, regional and local corporations, non-profits and was a ghost writer. I won national awards for travel and tourism books and ghost written several self-help books but I hadn’t written fiction since college.

When we moved to East Tennessee for the second time, we built our house-and I mean we, my husband, our son and I-built this house from the studs in. As I hung insulation, painted, tiled and planted, I plugged into audio books and discovered I really enjoyed romantic suspense. In the evenings I read romance novels. By the time the house was ready for occupancy, I’d read over 300 books, mostly in the romance genre and suspense.

One night while my husband was working out of the country, I sat at the computer and started writing a book. I entered it in several writing contests and learned a lot from the critiques. I met romance writer Deborah Grace Staley who helped me tremendously. She told me my 125,000-word tome wasn’t one book but three and none were the first in what has become The Black Swan series.

I attended many conferences and craft workshops over the next year while pitching every chance I got. The Black Swan series garnered interest and notice enough to convince Emily Kim, owner of Prospect Agency, to become my agent. When I’d finished Explosive Combination, it had gained a life of its own in the Romantic Suspense genre. Emily and I separated it from the Black Swan series, which is in the Contemporary Romance category, and I sold Explosive Combination to Liquid Silver Books in November 2013. The first of the Black Swan Series should come out in 2016.

In December 2014, Christmas In Cancun was published by Liquid Silver, the first of a new series of Romantic Suspense books based in Cancun, Mexico. In April 2015 I self-published Conquered in Cancun followed by Captivated in Cancun in January 2016. I was honored to be invited to write in Cat Johnson’s Hot SEAL Kindle World and wrote Claimed by a SEAL – Cancun Crossover novella 2.5 released January 2016.

I have been married to the same man for over thirty-seven years. Our two children are grown but our son lives with us. Our daughter and her husband blessed us with a granddaughter a few years ago.

I still read over 100 books a year, mostly audio books, and write every day.

Aimee O’Brien has harbored a not-so-little crush on her school’s new first-grade teacher since the beginning of the year. Tall, muscled, with long hair and a beard, and a penchant for wearing silly ties to amuse his students…the man is too gorgeous for words. As the PE teacher, Aimee’s wardrobe consists of casual gym clothing not likely to catch anyone’s eye. So no one is more surprised than her when Tony makes his interest clear.

Tony Santoro’s time in the military directly influenced his new choice of career—and his choice in women. He’s looking for someone of substance, and Aimee has far more to offer than just her adorably disheveled look. He can’t wait to see what’s hiding under those sweatpants and tees—but he might have missed his chance. The very day he finally works up the nerve to ask Aimee out, is the day unspeakable violence explodes in the school.

Trapped in the gym, Aimee and Tony will have to work together to get out with their lives…and the lives of the dozens of students trapped with them.

Author’s Note:
In this story, Aimee and Tony deal with a threat that’s all too real in today’s society; the subject matter may be too sensitive for some readers.

I love the Delta Force series and while this book is only loosely related it has the same impact. These are troubled times in our country and unfortunately the subject of this book has happened more than once.

Both Aimee and Tony are ex-military. They both love their teaching jobs and she has had a crush on him since she met him. Tony on the other hand has one teacher throwing herself at him impervious to his non-interest.

Aimee rescues him by accident from an uncomfortable situation at lunchtime and in the process gets a date with him. Here is a favorite scene.

Tony was sitting at one of the tables at the back of the small space, and Marci was sitting next to him. She was leaning toward him with her hand on her chin, elbow on the table. At first glance it looked they were having an intimate conversation, but when Aimee looked closer, she could see Tony was sitting rigid in his seat and was looking down at his lunch, and not at her.
Aimee took one step into the room and saw Tony suddenly stand up and give her a chin lift. Ignoring Marci, who was now almost trying to plant herself in his lap, he called out to Aimee, “Hey, I’ve been waiting for you. I’m ready, I’ll just grab my stuff and be there in a second.”
Aimee stood paralyzed for a moment, wondering what in the heck he was talking about. She’d been known to be scatterbrained sometimes, but she knew she’d never forget making plans to be with Tony during lunch.
Never.
No way in hell.
It would’ve been tattooed on her brain.
She watched as he quickly gathered his uneaten sandwich and chips and stuffed them back into the fabric lunch bag he’d brought with him. It had Elsa from Frozen on it, and was most likely a gift from one of his first-graders. The fact that this manly-looking specimen would use it for his lunch was another punch in Aimee’s gut. He didn’t even look embarrassed to be carrying it either. Damn.
Marci pouted up at him, obviously unhappy their lunch together was being interrupted. Tony leaned down and said something to her. Marci stopped pouting and smiled prettily up at him. She put her hand on his hip, and Tony quickly took a step backward, dislodging her hand but pretending not to notice.
The other teachers in the room watched the little drama playing out, but Aimee couldn’t tell what they were thinking. Tony waved at the room in general as he came up to her.
Tony sighed in relief at Aimee’s presence. He’d been sitting next to Marci, wondering how in the hell he was going to extricate himself from her clutches, when Aimee walked in. Marci had been getting more and more aggressive in her pursuit of him, but he didn’t want anything to do with her. He’d heard the gossip; it was impossible not to hear it, as the other teachers seemed to love to talk. Apparently, Marci had a bet with another one of the fifth-grade teachers that she’d have him in her bed by the end of the school year. Tony didn’t know what the bet was for, but he didn’t want any part of the pretty-but-she-knew-it teacher.
The Omega Team: Assisting Aimee (Kindle Worlds Novella) (Delta Force Heroes Book 99) (Kindle Locations 215-236). Kindle Worlds. Kindle Edition.

When his class joins another for gym with Aimee they hear gunshots. A very tense situation and one that requires a clear head and fast action. I think this is when I started holding my breath.

I couldn’t put this book down, the waiting and the interactions will hold you entranced until the final page. The Omega Team and Ghost’s Delta team, joins with the local police to try to talk down the shooter. I did a bit of crying here. This was truly an intense story and the way the romance works its way in was perfect. I don’t know many authors who could have pulled this off as well.

Thank you, Susan.

As a flight attendant, Rayne Jackson is used to cancellations, but she never dreamed her latest would lead to a whirlwind tour of London with a handsome stranger…or a life-altering night in his bed. One evening is all the enigmatic man can give her, and Rayne greedily takes it, despite suspecting it will never be enough.

Heading home after another extreme mission, Keane “Ghost” Bryson hadn’t planned to seduce someone during his layover, but Rayne is too sweet to resist. Being a Delta Force member means lying to protect his identity, which is unfortunate, considering Rayne seems made for Ghost, right down to the tattoo on her back. For the first time in his life, regret fills him as he slips away the following morning.

Both are shocked when, months later, they meet again—under the worst possible circumstances. Seems fate has given them a second chance…if they can survive the terrorist situation they’re in. If Rayne can forgive Ghost his lies. And if Ghost can trust Rayne to be strong enough to endure the secrets and uncertainty that come with loving a Delta Force soldier.

** Rescuing Rayne is the 1st book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

I love military heroes, and this one has them in full force. A brand new series with the crossover beginning in the last Seals of Protection book Protecting the Future.

I absolutely loved the beginning of this book, the cancelled flight and then the tour of London. I swear I felt like I was touring with them.

The agreement for a one night stand, no strings attached, no contact information just one night to enjoy each other’s bodies was a sizzling hot night indeed. The discovery of Rayne’s tattoo that has one meaning for her, but another for Ghost. The end of this night was one of my favorite scenes, one that had me sniffling.

“Soar High, Princess,” he whispered softly into her ear before standing up.

Ghost turned and walked to the door and stopped with one hand on the knob. Taking a resigned breath, he walked back over to the amazing woman in the bed and slowly tugged the sheet down, revealing the curve of her spine…and the tattoo that had made him lose his mind. He stared down at it, arguing with himself. It really was uncanny how she’d been able to capture the essence of who he was without even knowing him. Ghost knew he was being maudlin, but couldn’t help it.

The side that wanted a memory of this night forever won, and Ghost quickly took out his cell phone and snapped a picture of the unique tattoo, being careful not to capture anything indecent in his photo. Her beautiful backside was for his eyes only.

The circumstances of their next meeting holds some very intense moments. I found myself holding my breath, and crying. I did get frustrated with Ghost’s alpha male attitude at times, but then they all can really be dumb asses. I couldn’t put this book down, it kept me on my toes the entire book.

I did quite a bit of crying, both happy and sad. Better get some tissues.
