Winter Blog Review

Sayer Blackcrow doesn’t do relationships and what he has with Elle’s friend Kizzy is exactly what he needs. However there is one small problem he hasn’t yet addressed Kizzy is his mate. The problem…he doesn’t trust humans. Humans got his family killed.

When confronted by not only Gee but his Alpha Drew, he is not given a choice. Bring his mate to Los Lobos, a promise he blood oaths to Drew. This is a favorite scene.

Coming to a stop a few feet from Gee, he sat for a minute, trying to figure out why the damn bear would be there to see him at such a late hour.

Might as well get out.

True, or he could wait him out. At some point, he’d get tired and walk away. However, when the bear cocked his brow, Sayer shut off his vehicle then got out. “Gee.”

“Sayer.”

“Why are you here?” A gust of bitterly cold wind fluttered the end of his coat, chilling his overly sensitive skin.

“Where is she?”

Huh? “Who?”

“Don’t play games, boy. You know exactly who I’m talking about.”

He shook his head. “Sorry, I don’t.” He stepped around the imposing form in front of him, only to have the bear stop him in his tracks.

“She is your mate. She should be here, at your side.”

“I’ve got no clue what you’re talking about, old man. I don’t have a mate.” He wrenched his arm free—not that Sayer won their little pissing contest but more like Gee let him go.

“You going to lie to me?” Drew rose from the rocking chair in a darkened corner of the porch.

Shit. Shit. Shit. “No, Alpha. I’d never lie to you.”

“But you would to Gee?” He limped toward him, his brow cocked. “Answer his question. You stink of Elle’s human companion, Kizzy.”

He closed his eyes and scrubbed his face. “She doesn’t belong here.”

“She’s your mate. I would have expected you to come to me when you knew.”

“And tell you what?” He shook his head. “She’s human. She shouldn’t be here.”

“Ah.” Drew gave a short nod. “I understand. What you’re so eloquently saying is, with the human mates in the pack, we’re leaving ourselves vulnerable. And we shouldn’t trust them.”

Well….“No, Alpha. I’m not sure I can be a mate, first of all, and, second, she’s human. I don’t want…you know. I’m not good for this type of relationship or commitment.”

“So you’ll fuck your mate away from the pack and suffer?” He shook his head. “There’s always got to be a few stubborn ones.” He gave Gee a knowing glance.

“Excuse me?” He curled his lip. “Isn’t this my decision?”

“No.” Drew narrowed his eyes. “Your sneaking away from pack lands to be with your mate in the middle of the night will only lead to something bad happening.”

After the murders, the pack’s safety had become paramount. Too many families had been devastated by the acts of a crazed, feral mate no one even knew about. Dammit.

If anything, it proved his point. Humans were nothing but trouble. “It won’t happen again, Alpha. I am sorry.”

“You’re damn right it won’t happen again. You’re bringing her here.”

Wait. “Come again?”

“You will return to Custer, pack her stuff, and bring her to this house.” He pulled a knife out of his pocket.

Whoa. Pump the brakes here. “I’m not sure I should be taking a blood oath yet. I’m not sure she’s my mate.”

His alpha gave him a droll stare. “What did I tell you about lying?”

“Fine.” He took the proffered knife then cut his palm. Why wouldn’t anyone listen to him? He didn’t want this. Yet, his wolf grew more excited by the thought of giving his word to his alpha and bringing his mate home. He was fucked, with a capital F.

Drew accepted it from him and did the same. Then they clasped hands.

“I take full responsibility for Kizzy Rhapsody while she is on pack lands. Any transgression she makes against the pack, I will be held accountable for. I will take whatever punishment is deemed necessary, including death. This is my solemn vow.”

Energy flowed between them, crackling as it pricked at his skin. The fine hairs on his arm stood on end, and his wolf stepped forward as the bond sealed into place.

“So it shall be.” Drew let go of his hand. “When she is settled, I expect to see her, understand.” Not a question but command.

“Yes, Alpha. I’ll bring her by.”

“Good. Sleep well. You’re working a double shift after you bring her home, as punishment for sneaking off pack lands.” Drew smacked him on the shoulder, leaving him there with Gee.
Reeve, TL. Winter Fairy Tale (Black Hills Wolves #60): Winter Solstice Run (Kindle Locations 195-230). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Now all he has to do is bring Kizzy to Los Lobos and tell her everything. The truth about everything including why he keeps pushing her away and never staying the night after sex.

An extremely hot book to warm up a cold winter’s night. One that will have to survive many revelations as well as a scavenger hunt. It’s nice to see so many characters from previous books and I can’t wait for more.

I don’t read much MM let alone MMM, not because I don’t enjoy them but because somehow I feel like a voyeur. That said, this one tugged my heartstrings in many ways.

Max was yet another wolf who left to protect his mate from the wrath of Magnum. From the previous books we know how Magnum treated women and for a gay male? I could just imagine the horrors he would have imposed.

Kole is an omega, and he often punished harshly by Magnum because he kept his telepathic sister Gretchen and any of the younger girls he could out of reach. On top of that he was missing his mate. It’s been five long years and now with Drew as Alpha the pack is healing and so is Kole.

Jasper is human, apparently he was out hiking when he fell onto a ledge where Kole frequently runs. This is a favorite scene.

As he came to the ridge overlooking the bluffs of craggy rocks with wisps of sage and grass, the dark outline of something on the rocks below caught his eye. He scented the air for potential danger, but found only the sweetness of sandalwood and the rusty copper of old blood. The scents clawed at him, demanded he descend to where the darkened figure lay. Kole took the little path to the left and followed it until he stood over the male. Sweat, blood, and debris covered him. His chest rose and fell as though he slept peacefully under the stars. After taking a tentative step forward, Kole nudged the man’s cheek then licked it, trying to revive him.

How long had the man been out there? Why hadn’t anyone else seen him? Or helped him? The scent of sandalwood grew thicker each time he buried his nose against the man’s neck. Whoever he was, the guy belonged to him, and didn’t that beat all. After five years of hermitting himself away, all it took was going for a run. The pull grabbed him by the balls. Like with Max, the need to claim and mark this man rode him hard. Shouldn’t he feel bad? Like he was betraying Max? He licked the man again and whined while snuffling his cheek. The man groaned and turned his head.

“Go away, Hercules,” he mumbled. “I don’t want to get out of bed.”

Who is Hercules? Kole licked him again, and the man burrowed further, admonishing him once more. With a final nuzzle, Kole retreated a step and allowed the shift to come over him. His bones realigned with ease, and within moments, he crouched next to the man. “Hey, can you open your eyes? I’m here to help you,” he said, while taking in the hint of red stubble-covered cheeks marred by blood and dirt. His cropped red hair also had patches of dried blood as well.

He traced the contours of the man’s face while staring at him. The man’s full lips parted, and a soft groan passed them.

His brows furrowed, and the scent of pain masked any hint of his true smell. “Where is Hercules?” The man, caught somewhere between a hallucination and reality, reached out for his dog.

“I’m not sure,” Kole answered, still staring at the man. “Did you bring him with you out here?”

“Out here?” The man blinked several times and peeked through strawberry-blond lashes. Piercing-green eyes greeted him. “What the hell?” The man tried to sit up but hissed in pain. “Son of a bitch.”

“Easy,” Kole murmured. “How long have you been out here?”

He blinked and swallowed hard. Kole kicked himself for not having any provisions available. “I’m not even sure where here is.” He took a deep breath and coughed. “I went for a hike, and that’s about all I remember.”

“Did you fall?”

“I think I got lost. Where did the dog go?” Red asked.

“You mean Hercules?”

“Hercules?” The guy shook his head. “No, Hercules passed away a long time ago. There’s another one though. It licked my cheek.”

“Ah, the wolves. You know there are tons of wolves around here.” Kole hated lying. “One of them led me to you. Upside, we’re a quarter of a mile from my truck. The downside, we have to walk out.”

“A wolf led you to me?” A rough chuckle passed his lips. “That sounds so mystical.”

“You are on Native land here.” Kole smiled. “Things are not always as simple as they seem.”
Reeve, T.L.. Omega’s Heart (Black Hills Wolves Book 21) (Kindle Locations 48-76). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

It doesn’t take long for things to heat up and just get hotter by the second. Then Max returns, with a story he’s not ready to tell and a deep seeded need to claim his mate. He just didn’t know that Kole had found another true mate.

Much has to be decided both on Jasper’s part and Max has to find a way to accept Jasper and come to terms with his own story.

This was a very emotional story and I cried more than once. I really love Drew, his acceptance of his wolves no matter what and allowing humans, thanks to Ryker’s mate, makes this series a must read.
