Summer Blurb

Derek Dunne is a Cordon Bleu-trained food critic for the prestigious New York Monitor, whose scathing review of a popular Italian bistro has driven away all but the most loyal neighborhood patrons.

Lucrezia Serafina DiCicco is a clumsy business school drop-out, working as a chef and scrambling to keep her family’s restaurant afloat, after her father develops diabetes and is banned from his kitchen for his own good.

Now, with The Monitor folding, Derek is searching for his next career path and longing to get back to his first love—cooking—while Lu is desperate for an influx of cash to save the struggling restaurant…even as her father puts his foot down about non-family employees.

Derek and Lu embark on a marriage of inconvenience to save the restaurant. But can Lu ever really trust the man who nearly destroyed her family, who once noted her initials spelled “LSD,” and her food was like a “bad trip?”

Or will it be their hearts on the chopping block?

Summer My Review

You may be wondering from the blurb how any relationship can evolve from a marriage of inconvenience to love. Well let me tell you, it’s gonna take some work. Derek’s scathing review decimated the restaurant and Lu is falling apart trying to save it. Derek being the chef could save it all, but can she bring herself to trust him. This is part of how this strange relationship begins.

“So, do we have a deal?’

She shook her head again. “I’m only half-owner now, as you know from your background search. And, like I said, my dad will never agree. You’d be wasting your breath.”

“Unless I was family?”

She laughed. “What are you going to do, claim you’re my long-lost twin brother? My parents would probably not fall for that. They’ve kept pretty good track of their offspring.”

He picked up her hand and stroked his thumb over the back of her fingers, drawing little patterns over her knuckles. Whoa. She nearly stopped breathing. Then he flipped the palm up and lifted it to his lips, his tongue tracing her love line. Shivers of arousal crept up her spine. “Well, no. I don’t want to be your brother.”

He paused and slanted a look at her from beneath sooty lashes, a look so frankly sexual she melted on the spot. “Meeting you tonight….” He shook his head. His rich voice curled around her, sent little tendrils of desire skittering into forgotten places like kudzu emerging in a post-apocalyptic world. “I don’t know what it is, exactly, Lu. But I’ve been kinda hard since you tossed my drink in my face.” He frowned. “It’s not just the restaurant I want anymore.”

“It isn’t?” she squeaked. Because the heat in his startling eyes, his hand holding hers, the stark pleasure of his lips caressing her flesh, and his deeply masculine voice had turned her as mushy as a failed risotto. She studied his face, searching his earnest expression for any hint of mockery.

“Not by a long shot.” His gaze met hers, honest and candid. She detected no whiff of insincerity. Could he really want her? Could she trust him? After what he’d done, could she ever trust him?
Kincaid, Taryn. If You Can’t Stand the Heat (Kindle Locations 711-725). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

With a whirlwind marriage with her father’s blessing, Derek starts to win over all of her family, everyone but her that is. What was explosive becomes non-existent once their vows are spoken. Each day becomes a trial as Derek fights to win over his bride.

A story filled with food, family, love, laughter and tears.

Summer My Review

If you are following this awesome series, you will remember a glimpse of the beginning from Another Chance BHW #41.

It is that beginning which is truly the start of something very special for our two main characters, Riley and Amber. Here is one of my favorite scenes.

Luna, the man was gorgeous. She gaped at him, a jagged lightning bolt of need striking her dumb. Muscled and masculine, with bulging biceps and thighs and sharp angles in all the right places, he sported a scruffy head of inky hair she ached to run her fingers through. The hint of a five o’clock shadow sculpted his cheeks and strong chin.

An erotic shiver coiled through her, a sensation she’d never felt before. A sense of…rightness. Something like…destiny…her fate somehow entwined with that of the distant man.

Mine.

She stared at the baseball player’s image on the screen, stunned when the ball dribbled out of his glove and he glowered back into the camera as if he could see her, too, his eyes sharp and cool as frost. She recoiled, putting more distance between her and the TV.

The man stepped off the pitcher’s mound, a dumbfounded expression narrowing his eyes. He bit his sensual lower lip. Had he forgotten himself and where he was? She suspected his air of befuddlement was unnatural, a condition foreign to such a dominant and confident man.

A few moments later, he tossed a giant cream puff, the opposing batter squashing it in an instant. He raised his left arm as the ball shot back to him like a bullet. She could almost hear the stunning impact of horsehide and flesh as the ball barreled into his hand like a speeding locomotive. Her jaw dropped, and she stared at the screen in horror as the big, sexy male fell to the pitcher’s mound and rolled around in the dirt in apparent agony.

His pain became her pain. Sickness gripped her at the hideous scene unfolding before her eyes.

“No,” she whispered. “No, no, no, no, no!

She reached toward the television set, wanting to grab the male through the flickering screen and bring him toward her to hug him against her body and give him comfort. To heal him.

Without warning, four wolves and a giant bear bounded into the room, howling and roaring as they skidded to a halt and slid back into their human forms.

“Dear Sweet Luna,” one of the wolves shouted. “We’ve found them.” The man knelt beside her, grasping her hand in his much larger one. She flinched away, yanking her fingers from his steady grip.

“Sweetheart, it’s me,” he murmured.

She stared at the TV and the writhing ballplayer, even as the others swept up Garnet and bore her away.

“Help him,” she mumbled, her gestures frantic as she pointed at the jumping images.

“Help who?” The wolf looked around and then shook his head. “Amber, honey, don’t you recognize me?” Tears streamed down her rescuer’s face, and his voice choked. “It’s Chance.”
Amber’s Ace (Black Hills Wolves #51) (Kindle Locations 299-321). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

What’s so special you ask. Aside from being rescued from an encampment Amber just claimed her mate, and he heard her across the miles. Unfortunately his injury and her experiences under Magnum’s rule may very well keep them apart.

While Amber and her twin sister Garnet have started a successful jewelry business, Riley starts working with the young wolves, swimming with them and teaching them teamwork with baseball.

A love story at it’s best with the aid of the Matchmaking Matrons. Whose idea this time is a variation on a barn raising with an auction for picnic baskets. Both male and female would participate, with culinary offerings or something from their own specialty. To take place once the baseball field was completed.

A tearful yet happy read, as Amber and Riley work their way to acceptance of what happened to them.

Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack Alpha. Beaten by the Alpha’s thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.

Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.

But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

Review Spring Blog - Copy

Summer is funny, determined and full of life. A skinwalker who prefers the form of a Raven to that of her natural cougar. The Raven that suits her far better and gives her more freedom.

Brick on the other hand seems to have lost all of his fight after his ill-fated challenge of the Alpha. Brought to this isolated cabin by Gee, his friend and a bear shifter, to heal both body and mind he doesn’t seem to want to do either. Until Summer takes things into her own hands, ummm beak.

I really love the build up in this book. It is light and full of fun with an undercurrent of something more. Although I knew it couldn’t last without something going awry. One of my favorite scenes is when Brick had brought home a woman and after Summer chases her away.

“You can’t be jealous, Annabel Lee.”

So he’d given her a name, had he? She liked that. She’d rained another batch of walnuts down on him, but more playfully. He caught some. Juggled. Standing in his clearing, looking up at the sky, tossing walnuts in the air and laughing. He had a deep, rich laugh. His laugh grew even deeper, richer over time. He fed the teasing, carefree, whimsical aspects of her nature. She looked forward to playing with him, to their game with the walnuts.

But not as much as she now looked forward to him removing his shirt.

One day, years earlier, he’d sat on his porch rocker whittling, whistling a little off-key, pausing to glance up occasionally, as if he knew he were being watched. A mischievous smile quirked his lips upward. When he finished, he placed a beautifully carved figure of a wolf on the railing. She hopped down to take a closer look. His best work yet. The detail stunned her, the knife strokes on the body making each whorl of hair of the creature’s furry coat distinct. The expression around the eyes, the mouth, one of wonder and bemusement, and just the right amount of devilry. Like Brick’s own. Hinting at the shaggy scruffiness of the carver in human form. She coveted the tiny sculpture. Wanted to grasp it and soar away, to hide it in her tree house for her and her alone. He’d winked, as if he knew.

“Yours, sweetheart.”
Wolf’s Song (Black Hills Wolves Book 4) (Kindle Locations 209-220). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Their getting together is fraught with politics, even though there is no doubt they are true mates.

A truly enjoyable read, lots of fun and hot sex complicated by family and pack and den.

Winter Blog Review

This is the first book after the murders and I really needed some normal. Okay so nothing in this world is really normal, but normal for them.

This book opens with Brick (Wolf’s Song), playing with his children, twins Autumn a cat cub and Clay a wolf pup. They are so adorable, I want to squeal. Then the playing has to stop so Brick can go bail his brother out of jail in Shady Heart – Cat Territory. Even though the Alpha Cal Seven is his wife Summer’s uncle, this was going to cost a lot of money.

Chance Northridge is yet another wolf who 10 years ago,  left his family and mate behind. Hopefully protecting them from Magnum’s wrath. The former Alpha truly destroyed this pack from the inside out.

Dirty, sweaty, and sobering up is not the way Chance wanted to reunite with his family and pack, but that is was what was getting. But even before he makes it to Gee’s Bar to wait on the Alpha Drew and his enforcer Ryker, he feels his mate, in trouble and in pain.

Julie is not a weak woman. Even as her wolf howls mate, she knows she can’t just give in. He owes her at the very least an apology and explanation of why he left without a word.

One of my favorite scenes is with Gee, right before Julie walks in with her batch of cupcakes. It has a phrase that is repeated in various forms and very true with regard to Chance.

“I shouldn’t have listened to Magnum. I knew he was a sick bastard. I didn’t know what to do back then. Hell. I was only twenty myself. I figured my presence wasn’t good for anybody.”
“And now?” The bear leaned forward, as if a lot rested on Chance’s response.
“I guess all I can do is try to be the best wolf I know how to be.”
“Yeah, it’s a start.” Gee offered a satisfied nod. “Good answer. Any leads?”
“No, none yet. Drew doesn’t know anything about them. His father banished him from Los Lobos around the same time I left. Ryker says he doesn’t, either.”
“So why are you hanging around the bar night after night? Expect clues to their disappearance to land in your lap along with a side of fried pickles?”
Chance shook his head. He wanted to see Julie and hoped she’d stop by one night for a burger or cold one. He didn’t think he’d accomplish much else in town unless he got their situation settled. In his heart, he knew he planned his dream cabin for her, even though he recognized the futility of his cause.
Nevertheless, his Wolf clawed at him desperately, the inner whines and howls as intense as the hard, curved nails raking Chance’s skin, urging him to go after her.
He also hoped to catch a glimpse of Julie’s mate so he could size the male up and figure out how Julie was really doing after her tumble into the ravine. He’d muscle in and issue a dominance challenge if she looked battered or troubled. In exchange for his promise to leave Los Lobos and never come back, Magnum had backed down from the threat to mate her to Ozzie, and instead chose a random subservient male for spite. Chance hadn’t stuck around long enough to witness the ceremony.
Everyone avoided the subject with him now, even Gee. The internal pull tore him apart, the compulsion to follow her nearly irresistible. He could sniff her out, follow her scent to her home, and see with his own eyes if she’d fully recovered from the spill in the forest, if all was well with her, but….
“So what’s stopping you?” Gee growled, as if reading his mind.
Jesus. Was his expression so transparent?
The hopelessness of his predicament cycled through him. “I can’t upend her life. It’s been more than a decade. Whatever things were like for her in the beginning, she’s got to be settled by now. She hasn’t missed me much. I can’t go barging in, issuing challenges to her mate. It’s not my place.”

“Her mate?” Gee stared at him, his dark eyes going round as disks on a checkerboard. “You really must be the dumbest wolf on the planet.”

Kincaid, Taryn (2016-01-22). Another Chance (Black Hills Wolves #41) (Kindle Locations 523-544). Decadent Publishing. Kindle Edition.
Of course nothing can be all that easy and I was very surprised by what comes next and how things resolved. A fun read with some added excitement and angst.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - My review

Suffering from PTSD our Capricorn, former Navy Seal Slate, has more or less settled in at home. Living in a Lighthouse, lobstering and occasionally captaining the ferry he avoids socializing as much as he can. Much preferring the solitude to anyone knowing about his issues. He is also in an offhanded way keeping a promise to his late friend and commander by watching his daughter from afar.

His Commander’s daughter Holly tracked him down because a letter from her father is to be opened with him. She fell in love with the island and purchased a dilapidated mansion with hopes of renovating into an Inn. She hadn’t approached him but fate has a way of making things happen.

A bouncy determined Aries, Holly is determined to make this man smile and laugh again. The excerpt below is their meeting and one of my favorite scenes in the book.

He on the other hand wants to keep his distance, certain his friend didn’t mean seducing his daughter as a way of taking care of her.

This is a fun read with lots of snark, quirky quotes and stubborn denial. It does have some scary points that can hit home for some. Be prepared to laugh and cry. This book will make you do both.

Fall Tree Blog - sm - excerpt

“I like the tousled look on you,” she confided.

“Jesus. You really have no boundaries, do you?” He raked her with a glare and rested the cartons on the hood of a nearby car, then brushed a hand through his disheveled hair. His attempt to restore some semblance of order failed miserably when a wayward lock flopped over his forehead. Growling, he flipped the stray curl away with an irritated gesture.

“I think not,” she responded. “I’m never going to have them where you’re concerned.”

“We’ve just met, Holly.”

“But I don’t feel like we’re strangers, really. Didn’t my dad ever mention me? He talked about you. Besides, I’m an Aries. Get used to it.”

With his now-straggled hair and a puzzled air reorganizing his features, he appeared almost boyish, or might have, if it hadn’t been for the wave of pure, unadulterated lust smacking her like a two-by-four every time she gazed at him.

“You have no idea what Aries is, do you?”

“It’s a constellation. I’m a sailor.”

“It’s also a zodiac sign. You know, like in horoscopes? And it’s not actually aligned with the constellation anymore because of the way the equinoxes have caused a shift.”

His eyes glazed over a little.

“Aries are impulsive, impetuous, impatient, and daring,” she nattered on, surprised at her breathlessness, but not her need to babble. “I’m guessing that’s everything you’re not.”

He frowned. “I can be impatient,” he said, as if that was a good thing. The look he shot her indicated his nerves might, in fact, be wearing a little thin at the present moment.

“And I suspect, given your last employment, daring, too.”

“Maybe that,” he conceded. “Not by inclination or choice.” He shrugged. “Anyway, I’m a lobsterman now. And I run the ferry when needed.”

“But still mainly serious, driven, hard-working, and wise, fiercely loyal, tough, and unapproachable on the outside but with a soft, warm, and squishy nougat center. I have you pegged for a total Capricorn. I bet you’re a secret romantic at heart, although you never show the world that side. When’s your birthday?”

“Do we have to play this idiotic game?”

“We do. And it’s not idiotic. You’d be surprised how telling astrology can be. Was I wrong about you?”

“Well…” He paused, and the silence between them lengthened.

“I’ll take that as a no.” She grinned at him.

“All right.” Again he said nothing more, and she wanted to shake him until a confession fell out of his mouth.

“Chatty, too.” She tapped her foot and crossed her arms over her chest, drawing his gaze to her breasts. But he still didn’t take the hint. She groaned. Such a man. “Eyes up, sailor.” She flicked a finger in the vicinity of his chin until he raised his focus. “Birthday?” she demanded again.

“In a couple of weeks,” he said at last, the admission apparently so difficult it might have been wrung from him on pain of torture.

She snapped her fingers. “Knew it. Do I have you sussed or not?”

“Do you?”

“I mean, we’re completely incompatible. Like oil and water. The tortoise and the hare.”

He shot her another incendiary look, and then glanced at the exit as if contemplating how fast he could make his getaway.

“Oh, wait. So I ruffled your feathers a little, and you’re not going to help me now?”

Instead of replying, he seized her fiercely by the arm and spun her around, dragging her into him until he’d caught her up against his rock-hard chest. Then his mouth came down on hers, hard, harsh, and demanding. Giving absolutely no quarter. Shocking her into utter and complete silence.

Whoa! I thought this man lacked spontaneity? Holy simmering cinnamon buns!

SummerBlog My Review

Once again I find myself hooked on a series. Not by one author but by several. In this latest addition, Taryn Kincaid has added a whole new level to Sleeping Beauty.

In the beginning of this tale we meet Nicodemus, he was the one to tell Rosina the name of the embroidered flowers she carries in her locket. This a favorite passage:

Once an ancient, traveling peddler, Nicodemus had tried to buy the memento from her, the odd little man’s eyes alight with avarice— and something more. The gleam reflected equal parts shock, mystery, and greed. When she refused to give up her necklace, though desperate for the money he’d offered, the gray-bearded, gnome-like man had shown her pictures of long-gone flowers in an illustrated book so magnificent it stole her breath away. He’d identified the beautiful regal rose for her, once so plentiful in many places and now no more. Then he’d taken her under his wing for a short time and a short distance, finally leading her here, to live among the warriors. “They’ll feed you,” he’d said. “Shelter you. Take care of you better than I can.”

“I need no one to care for me.” “Do you not?” The stunted man’s eyes crinkled, and the corners of his mouth quirked, the signs of his amusement all but hidden by his voluminous beard. She could not argue. Food had grown so much harder to come by. Danger everywhere. Even the slashing rain falling from the sky cut her delicate skin to ribbons, as lethal to her as sharpened razor blades, another rare commodity. “’ Tis where you belong… at this time,” Nicodemus had said. “Where you must be now. One of them will save you. And you will rescue him.”

Rosina has taken care of the soldiers as much as they have taken care of her. However, the one she really wants Major Clay Worthington, distances himself from her. At least he had until the day Nicodemus reappears.

Nicodemus has another tale to tell, this one of how the war began. The story of Rosina’s and Clay’s families. When Rosina has heard enough she runs out into the desert and Clay follows her. Neither staying to hear the rest of the tale.

The story get hotter than the daytime desert temperatures, as fate takes over.

WOLF’S SONG
Black Hills Wolves #4
By Taryn Kincaid

This book was a gift from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

BLURB:
Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head, drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack alpha.

My Review:

I fell in love with Summer on the first page of Chapter 1.  She is funny, determined and full of life. A skinwalker who prefers the form of a Raven to that of her natural cougar.  The Raven that suits her better and gives her more freedom.

I really love the beginning and the build up in this book. It is light and full of fun.  Although I knew it couldn’t last without something going awry, was very refreshing.

One of my favorite scenes is when Brick shifts in front of her the first time.

One night, when the moon glowed full, Brick had come out of the cabin and howled up at the glittering orb, his voice hoarse, harsh, ragged. Caught in the grip of a compulsion he clearly could no longer fight. His clothes had seemed to choke him and he stripped them off down to his skin. Standing naked, face tilted to the light, he’d let the glow bathe him in silver.

That may have been the moment. The moment when everything inside her shattered, became still, reformed, truly recognized the male before her. When her heart, already lent to him on a part-time basis, became his. Completely. Irrevocably.

The considerable muscles he’d built up over the years took on added bulk as he dropped to his hands and knees, the air shimmering around him. His face twisted, his grimace somewhere between agony and orgasm, as his head grew, elongated, his nose lengthening and broadening into a muzzle, his mouth, his lips widening, stretching to accommodate fangs. His hair, oh. So sleek, so dense. So like the wolf he’d carved for her. His fur looked soft, lighter than his human hair, rich and tawny as butterscotch or melted caramel.

Something happened to her the first time she watched him shift. Something raw. Something metaphysical. Something eternal. And undeniably hot.

Athletic, graceful. Predatory and dangerous. She loved watching him shift, watching him running in his wolf form. Born into a clan of nocturnal cats, familiar and comfortable with the night, she soared into the skies above him, keeping pace, between him and the mother moon.

Whenever he ran, she flew with him.

Did he know?

Of course, he knew. Except for those first few weeks of the healing process, when he’d seemed soul-dead and oblivious to the world, nothing escaped him. He possessed a wolf’s acute and finely honed predatory senses, his innate skills so far beyond a mere human’s ability to see, to scent, to hear.

At dawn after that first full moon, he’d lain spread-eagled on the sweet, dewy grass, on his back in a fragrant wild-flower strewn meadow some distance from the cabin, his broad shoulders and huge chest heaving, sweat drying on his human skin, on the ridged muscles rippling from his slick pecs, down his flat abdomen, detouring to the chiseled ropes bracketing his carved hips. A dark ribbon of hair began below his navel, pointing the way, like a neon arrow, down his sin trail of delight. Jackpot.

Her mind had blanked and she lost control, shifting so abruptly into human form she’d nearly toppled out of her tree. Heat poured over her, through her, as if she’d been tossed into a boiling cauldron. She’d never really thought about sex before. Suddenly it was all she could think about.

Her breathing had hitched, her mouth hanging open. She took in shallow breaths, huffing them out. Panting. By the spirit of the Great Hawk. Panting. And her respiratory difficulty had nothing to do with the exertion of her flight, with their race in the moonlight. And everything to do with the potent, raw male strength displayed before her. Good thing the abundant summer foliage had kept her out of sight.

She hadn’t been able to tear her gaze from him. Her vocabulary failed her after spectacular. Magnificent. Powerful. Someone smarter than she needed to invent new words for this male.

As they grow to realize they are fated mates the story heats up.  The sex is both steamy and emotional.  The conflicts intense and the outcome, well, you’ll just have to read it for yourself.

Bravo, Taryn for this fun yet intense Shifter story.

I give this book 5 Contented PURRS

Keep reading the excerpt is another of my favorite scenes.

EXCERPT:
She did not move, except to lower her raised arm from its frozen position. “Why do you call me that…? Annabel Lee?”
“I don’t have another name.”
“Summer,” she said. “I’m Summer.”
Yeah. Def. When the berries plumped sweetest. “Suits you.” His raging arousal made the words hoarse and jagged. Too harsh for this gentle female. “Turn,” he murmured. “I want to see your face.” A low growl escaped him before he could bite it back. “Your breasts.”
She turned then, slowly through the water, rounding to face him.
He sucked in his breath, his heart slamming against his chest. She was stunning and glorious. The beads of water rolling down her golden body sparkled in the sun. She glistened. All natural. No makeup. No artifice. Everything a female should be. And more. Much more.
Another pheromone cloud engulfed him. Her eyes went large and rounded, as if she guessed she’d zapped him with her hormonal lures, but couldn’t help emitting her sex juice any more than he could. Her nose twitched and she sighed, as if enveloped in a vat of melted chocolate, or whatever the fuck his own mating scent smelled like. He could only hope he gave off an aroma as rich and delicious as she did.
He struggled to control the raw savagery of his attraction and had to tear his eyes from her face. But her breasts…God, her breasts. Full and high, the exact size to fill his large hands, rose tips jutting toward him. He remembered how she’d touched herself, how much he’d wanted to replace her hands with his. Hell. He wanted to bury his face between those breasts, lapping at her, licking and sucking, take each one into his mouth, between his lips, grazing the pointed nipples with his teeth until he tore moans of delight from her.
His throat closed, his tongue swelling, filling his suddenly dry mouth, cutting off his ability to utter either animal sounds or inane words. After a beat or two of silence, she glanced away.
“What do you think?” Not shy exactly. Expectant. An undercurrent of doubt laced her question, as if she could not bear to disappoint him, and did not know what to make of his continued speechlessness.
“Perfect.” He rubbed his eyes. “Ah, Christ. You’re perfect.”
“No, I’m not.”
“You are to me.”

Review of In From The Cold by Taryn Kincaid

InFromtheCold

A Sleepy Hollow 1Night Stand Story

BLURB:
Spook Raines is a burnt-out spy who doesn’t know he’s a fire demon with a twin in Sleepy Hollow.
Geneviève Mortimer is a will o’ the wisp who hunts demons to ease the pain of her troubled past.
When Madame Eve brings them together for a torrid 1Night Stand, will they be able to come in from the cold at last?

EXCERPT:
Geneviève Mortimer crept down the quiet hotel hallway, careful to bank her glow…at least for the moment. She’d sensed the presence of a demon on the floor, but something seemed off about the male’s aura. A weird lack of evil, like an impenetrable force field surrounded his consciousness, his psyche. As if he thought he were…human.

Had he been brainwashed? Drugged? Raised by gypsies? By wolves? Wait. No. Scratch that last one. She didn’t get the were vibe at all with this one.

No matter, as a will o’the wisp and a POLO, Protector of the Legion of Shadows, tasked with watching over humankind and keeping the unwary safe from visitors from the demon realms to the human plane, she lured the black-souled to their demise. Going all shine-a-light and sparkly until the evil ones fell under her spell and followed her anywhere. She needed to find this guy. Pounce first, beam a little hypnotic wattage, ask questions later. Take him out before he did any harm. To humans, or innocents like her parents. She sniffed. Getting warmer. Closer to the demon’s room. What would she find behind his door?

Ignoring the do not disturb sign, she jiggled the handle. Locked. But the absence of a key card wouldn’t be a problem for her, not with her brand of talent and the magick lock picks in her pocket. She got the door open in seconds and slinked into the room, masking her radiance, keeping to the shadows.

Holy shit. The scent of male arousal filled the air. Delicious, decadent, sublime. Total man candy, like nothing she’d ever smelled before. Calling to her sweet tooth. Her horny core. So intense, an ache blossomed between her legs. She closed her eyes and inhaled. Whoa. She could orgasm from the erotic scent of the guy alone. Was the dude going through breedspawn? Were all the rumors she’d heard of the full-on crazy, demon male mating phase more than myth? She’d sure never encountered anything as powerfully sexy as this.

Cripes. This sort of thing never happened to her. I’m a demon hunter, damn it. She remained professional always, despite her ditzy, scatterbrained reputation. Did her job. And did it well. She’d fooled even her closest friends, those who didn’t know about her role as a POLOS and didn’t guess the half of it. Those who thought she slut-flitted around the world searching for mischief, adventure and, most of all, pleasure, like some sort of fickle, commitment-shy, well, yeah sure, okay, will o’the wisp.

My Review:

I purchased this book from Amazon.
I have to admit I have a  soft spot for these Sleepy Hollow Books. I live in the Hudson Valley not far from Sleepy Hollow, the mystery of the Catskills and all the legends draw me to all stories set in this gorgeous area of NY State.

None have captured me more than Ms. Kincaid’s.  I was delighted when she said in an interview that she got a lot of her inspiration while driving up and down the NYS Thruway for her other than author job.  The Thruway can be long and boring but the scenery is fantastic and if it’s snowing, scary as Hell. But enough about that and on to the book!!!

OMG! Hot, Hot and Hotter! Spook Raines is as hot as Max and Byrne but has no idea he’s a demon and caught by surprise by a Will o’ the Wisp Genevieve who hunts demons, well that is just the most interesting connection our darling Madame Eve could make for a one night stand. Their date on a yacht in the Hudson River is … well let me just say I am still sweating.  I need a very cold shower about now.

Aside from being a sizzling read, we get to see the other Raines in this one.  Loved seeing them again and those glimpses were not without heat themselves!

GO! Buy the books! All of them!!! They bring the mystery of the Hudson Valley to life in ways you could never imagine on your own!

Once again Bravo, Taryn!

I give this five contented PURRS!!!
