My name is Tamsin Vale… And I’m no longer no one. I’m not simply an abandoned orphan without any answers. Granted, most of the answers led me to ask more questions, but I have at least some now.

Fairies aren’t what I was promised they would be and I’m certainly not what they want, but I’m the only one who can save them from their magical prisons. They’re the best help I have to fix so many wrongs in the world and keep the ones I love safe, given all the threats against me.

And if that wasn’t enough to crack my sanity, I’m still on rocky ground with the men in my life. Why the hell did I think it was a good idea to get involved with more than one?

I’m trying not to run. After almost two decades of knowing that the only way to keep myself safe is to run, it’s not a reaction I can easily change. I might be making a mistake by not running away from what people want of me.

Because who I might become to defeat the monsters would be as bad as the people I’m fighting against.

It’s Spring Break and before they get to relaxing they have a trap to spring for the Vampire council. Tamsin does something really sneaky to one of the councilmen behind it as well. Julian is being a yes man and Tamsin really wants him to snap out of it. As they binge through food and old TV shows Darby, Hudson, Lucca and Julian become closer even as Tamsin tries to make headway with healing her relationships.

Before classes are to start again, Tamsin is going to revive more fairies. This time there will be a difference, some of these fairies are severely wounded. Those fairies with the best healing abilities would be standing by to heal as they wake. Faerie once again takes hold of Tamsin hurting her once more. She can’t move and she needs to let go of the reservoir so Iolas can heal her.

In the aftermath she compares this to a story she once heard and then she walks away.

This is a favorite scene.

I walked off, ignoring the crazy and fighting that erupted behind me. I hadn’t wanted to start drama but… I hadn’t. Our damn planet had, and I’d simply been honest about it.

Without a real goal in mind, I found myself lost, the whole area new to me, but not even remotely where we’d usually drive in from the portal. I reached the end of where they’d been pushing back, moving along the wall of caustic darkness and staring out into it. My mind was a blank. What had happened had fried me out to the point there was static in my head.

I wasn’t sure how long I walked for. A while. Probably not all that far though since my pace was a stroll. I’d honestly walked to Mars for all I knew.

Something moved in the darkness and I thought I’d finally lost my mind. What had happened today and what I’d realized had finally snapped something in me, and the rest of my sanity was just gone.

Turning to look at it, I saw the shape of a large person, much bigger than a fairy. An animal trapped on the other side? We’d found tons of animals now that there were huge sections of Faerie cleared. They were trapped in the darkness, but the magic didn’t affect them the same. Once the darkness was cleared they were free.

I hadn’t seen it, but I really didn’t have any reason to not believe the Light Guardians who had been talking about how cool it was.

A hand shooting out of the caustic darkness snapped me out of my thoughts. Before I could react, it grabbed my wrist with a grip stronger than any I’d ever felt, even now in the supe world.

I screamed. I screamed and screamed, this being one of my many nightmares about Faerie and the darkness. I think I tried to pull away, but I was so truly panicked in a way I wasn’t sure I had been before, I might not have. It was probably the most scared I’d ever been in my life. The nightmares that plagued me about Faerie and the spell, trying to find fairies had been constant.

And people reaching out from the darkness to drag me in had been something I’d dealt with at least three times a week for over a year. So yeah, it was like my personalized horror movie that left me screaming my head off.

Except the man didn’t pull me in, but shoved me back. My whole body was weak from what had happened and panicked from this new crazy, and I landed hard on my ass. I couldn’t focus enough to keep up my barriers or cloaking—though apparently he could reach through all of that anyways.

Yeah, that wasn’t terrifying.

More than terrifying. What came after terrifying on the scared scale?

A leg came out with the arm, and that seemed to give the person the leverage needed to yank out from the darkness. A few more seconds and a loud popping sound and I was staring at the largest man I’d ever seen. He had Hudson and Mr. Vogel beat by at least a half of foot. The girth was unreal. The guy was massive.

And he had bright red hair that was so bright, it looked like it couldn’t be real. Curly red hair… Like I saw in the mirror every day. I’d never seen someone with that color of hair before that hadn’t dyed it.

Was it a thing for fairies to die their hair?

No, right? And fairies didn’t get this big. So he was some type of fair folk I didn’t know about?

Yeah, probably. I would bet good money there were other species of fair folk I didn’t know about. I certainly didn’t have any clue about the plant or animal life of my home world.

“Tamsin,” he croaked. “Tamsin, stop.”

Oh, right, I was still screaming.

People must have heard because they started showing up in a blur of fairy rune speed, Taeral one of the first.

“Get away from her!” he roared when the man moved towards me, launching himself at the new person.

“No, don’t,” Iolas shouted, blocking the Dark Guardian and standing in front of the man recovering from the darkness.

That he somehow broke out of all on his own.

I was still slightly stuck on that.

And how he knew my name.

Why did people seem to always know who I was in this fucking world?

“Tamsin, don’t be scared,” he said in between coughing. He moved closer and looked like I’d slapped him when I backed away with a whimper.

“Did he hurt you?” Taeral asked.

I couldn’t make my mouth work, shaking my head to answer.

“I would never hurt her,” the man snapped.

“Oh well, now that you’ve said that, we’ll just believe you,” one of the other Dark Guardians drawled.

“You should,” Iolas sighed. “He’s her father.”

Well, that explained the red hair… Just not how he could break from the darkness, and why he hadn’t before now.

“How were you able to get out of the dark magic alone?” Taeral demanded, not backing down just yet and keeping close to me. He shot me a quick glance. “Did you release him?”

Again, I simply shook my head.

The man didn’t even give Taeral any notice, focused on me. “I saw when the first light came back to Faerie. I’ve been trying to move through the darkness since then to find you. We never thought—we never dreamed—it was like fighting to move through tar. We couldn’t have known that.”

There was a long pause, and I realized he was waiting for something from me. I nodded. I’d seen it myself how hard it had been for him to get free of it.

“We never thought all the portals would die. I’ve activated portals many, many times. I couldn’t. I couldn’t get to you.”

I held up my hands in front of me to hold him off. He wasn’t making sense. Or jumping around. I was still ready to pee myself that someone had reached out from the darkness and grabbed me.

“How did the magic not affect you?” Neldor demanded. “Every fairy was frozen until Tamsin was able to—”

“I’m not a fairy,” the man stated easily as if saying the sky was blue. “And refer to my daughter as you should, Neldor, or you won’t like what I do. Meira might have thought you were crucial to the survival of all fairies should the worst of her visions come to pass, but I didn’t, and my mate is gone.”

That was a whole lot to digest and no one seemed to know what to say for a few moments, Taeral finding his voice first. “You’re not a fairy?”

“No, Lageos is a demigod,” Iolas explained. “The last demigod.”

My vision went black, and I never felt myself fall to the ground.

I thought fainting was a fairly appropriate response to hearing that.

The discovery of her father and what he is shocks Tamsin, but it also explains a lot of things. Especially with regard to her power.

So many things in this book as Tamsin takes more control of her life, but also allows help from a different source. Reveals that aren’t really reveals are both fun and interesting.

Laughter, tears, fun, fighting and of course plenty of sizzle in the page-turning read. I really can’t wait to see what’s next for Tamsin.

My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m the last known fairy… And I think I’m out of time. The walls are closing in from all sides and we’re quickly running out of options.

But I don’t think help is coming.

Making up with Darby and Lucca—having them at my side—has helped my soul, but I’m still missing pieces of it. I want to let Hudson back in, though I don’t know how.

And I really wish I could move on from Craftsman. Why can I not let go of the man who nearly destroyed me?

There are too many other things I should be focused on. McGrath is circling and must be handled. The warlock elders are stepping up their attempts to get me. Others are getting too desperate and that makes people dangerous, but trying to make friends with the wrong people will get me killed.

I really wish help was coming because I don’t think I’ll survive without it.

Tamsin and Darby are an item again, and Lucca is with them too, but in secret because of who his father is. With Hudson, they are going back to square one, working to be friends. Only Craftsman hasn’t been forgiven at any level and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon.

The first order of business comes with the appearance of ‘supe security’ demanding she come with them, and threatening all that get in their way. This is a violent scene as Tamsin protects not only herself but also everyone around her.

Next order of business is Instructor McGrath, I really liked that one. He truly gets his comeuppance.

Then there’s the supe version of football, lots of fun with Darby, oh and I might have been wrong about Julian Craftsman.

Tamsin hasn’t really forgiven anyone but Darby and Lucca, and with all that’s going on around her she’s still feeling very alone. Her working to bring faerie back is slow, she wants to know if there are answers to be found.

This is one of my favorite scenes.

I needed a serious break and brought everything I needed to work in Faerie as I did almost every Saturday morning now. My power was strong enough that I could let out all the reservoirs I collected during the week and the boxes and boxes of recharged crystals. That was my routine.

What had also become my routine since I’d been able to do this on my own without White was to pray. To whom?

I had no idea, but I had been. Maybe I was praying to Faerie to help a girl out.

Maybe to the gods to realize I couldn’t handle any more.

Maybe to the other fairies to hear me and fight to meet me halfway.

I didn’t know, but I didn’t even have it in me to pray anymore. No one was listening. No one cared. No one was coming to help pick up the fight and take the next round before we all drowned.

I was so tired and out of hope, part of me wondered why I still kept coming and pumped so much magic into this world. Was I stupid? Was I crazy to keep trying and trying and trying to find someone—anyone—after over a year? Not even an animal yet and still, I nearly killed myself to keep doing this when we had piles of problems, fair folk were in trouble all over the place, and people constantly wanted my head.

I had to be a machoistic.

Definitely insane.

Still, I focused my power, closing my eyes and visualizing as I needed to. I frowned when it didn’t go as it had been for months. It didn’t stall, but started almost revving like I wasn’t in gear.

I adjusted my magic as if I was shifting gears and moved my hands over everything, making sure I was calm and centered. I let out a cry as it all shot out the left side of me, down my arm, and splayed from my fingers hard enough that it hurt. Seriously hurt. It was a huge burst that was made me feel worse than any hit I’d taken during sparring and totally knocked the wind out of me.

“What the fuck was that?” I whispered, clutching my throbbing arm I couldn’t even move to me. I felt woozy and heard my heartbeat echoing in my ears, trying to calm down and relax now that the burst was over. I was fine and I could ask White later.

But then I realized it was Faerie.

And it wasn’t my heartbeat echoing.

It was a second heartbeat here.

I jumped to my feet, tripping over them as I thought of the rune to use fairy speed. I raced in the direction my magic had shot out, traveling miles too fast and pushing myself too hard. Sliding to a stop when I felt where it ended, I locked gazes with maybe the lightest green eyes I’d ever seen.

“What did you do?” his deep voice choked out.

“I-I—” I didn’t know how to explain any of this, too shocked I actually fucking found someone. I gasped and stumbled away when his magic ramped up, able to feel it and terrified of his power.

“What did you do?” he shouted, his voice still completely raw.

It took me a split second to decide what to do. I was injured, drained from releasing him and racing there, and at a disadvantage. He was powerful, pissed, and clearly disoriented.

I ran. I turned on my heel and used that rune to get the fuck out of there. I put every ounce into running and headed for the bike I now kept there, driving it with one arm at full speed back to the portal. I dumped the bike and activated the portal, flying through it and pulling my magic back.

Panicking on what I should do, I patted myself down to find my phone, freaking I’d dropped it in Faerie. Then I remembered I’d left it in the kitchen to charge and after a few failed attempts, managed to push to my feet. I stumbled up the stairs, ignoring Darby and Mel in the kitchen, and practically tore my phone from the charger, calling who I knew I should first.

“Tamsin, it’s not a good—” Geiger greeted.

“I found someone,” I shouted. “I found someone in Faerie, Geiger, and he is pissed and scary and I don’t know what to fucking do! I just ran. I don’t know if he can come through the portal, but he was—his power is more than mine and it hurt me to do. He was disoriented and has green eyes. What the fuck do I do now?”
Flynn, Erin R. Dodging Calamities (Artemis University Book 7) (Kindle locations 3151-3199). Supernatural Script, Inc. Kindle Edition.

The fairy she released, or rather Faerie had released wasn’t at all what Tamsin expected. He was a Prince and thought they were betrothed and she should be compliant. Yeah, right.

Everyone rallies to support Tamsin even as she struggles with new knowledge coming from Prince Neldor. There’s more and more fallout and traps set. One that Tamsin is really worried about hurting someone she loves.

Plenty of action and suspense, some forgiveness and yes, sizzling heat too.

My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m the last known fairy, fighting to find out what happened to all fairies and our world.

But I’m running out of hope, and it has a lot to do with the four pieces of my soul I no longer have with me. Going through one breakup is terrible, but four in rapid succession is… More than one person can handle.

I spent all summer fighting for fair folk, and fighting the councils, and fighting for the supes who need it, instead of taking a break. And I’m tired, mostly because I have so much trouble sleeping, missing the men I loved and didn’t want to admit I cared for.

Still, I can’t quit, so I keep pushing on. That’s what it means to be an adult and have responsibilities. I’m not alone, and I have help pushing me to keep going, teaching me what I need, so we can win the fights we need to.

I can… I really don’t think I can do this.

Artemis University is an ongoing hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.

After the debacle that Tamsin’s end of year party became, she’s looking forward to going to the villa in Spain. Originally it was going to be with Craftsman and Darby but she’s still not on a path to forgive them. Hudson and Lucca are also still in the doghouse as well. Her heart is aching but she needs to separate from them to think things through. There’s been so much between all of them and some things she’s finding she can’t forgive.

Professor White is going to chaperone in Spain, while working with Tamsin on how to release her energy and the energy of the crystals into Faerie without hurting herself and her magic. She will also be helping Tamsin with her high school courses and on the things she can test out of at Artemis.

Then there’s the summer soiree she has planned for the donors to the new scholarship fund, this would be the last event before Spain. Unfortunately the people attending are idiots and greedy as well. Many came with crystals expecting them to be charged by her, not just a couple, but millions. So instead of attending she would be leaving after making an announcement.

This is just one of my favorite scenes.

Mel must have radioed someone because the music was cut, and slowly people quieted down. They glanced around to see what was going on, and I bit back a smirk.

This was going to be fun.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated to the new scholarship fund I started,” I said loudly, pausing to give people a chance to find me. I smiled out at them. “While I hope you all enjoy the party I painstakingly planned to celebrate the success, it seems I won’t be able to join you for it. Security has informed me that people have brought millions of crystals in the hopes I’d raise them to high-tier crystals for them.

“So much for those charitable donations expecting nothing in return, huh? For those of you who truly gave to be kind and generous, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Those of you who gave the minimum to get into the party in the hopes of crystals—thanks for ruining the fun for me and others, as this was supposed to be a drama free night. I hope everyone enjoys the party and gets home safely.”

“You cannot be serious,” someone shouted. “We were promised you would attend.”

I raised an eyebrow and smirked down at the woman who wore hundreds of crystals on her dress, like I had months ago.

“I don’t remember the invitation saying that, only that I would host the party. Isn’t that your argument why we couldn’t confiscate your crystals? We didn’t specify them on the invitation, and they were fair game then? Yes, well, you played your hand, and poorly. I’m still hosting the event, but I won’t be attending it for all of you to try and use me as a power source, see if you can get me to collapse, or kill me.”

Several people objected or exclaimed that wasn’t fair or proper of me when it was my event. Yeah, well, they could go fuck themselves. I wasn’t risking myself either. I doubted my mood would allow me to tier up any crystals currently, but I wasn’t going to risk it either, and I preferred getting to tell them all to go fuck themselves for sure.

I turned to head back inside, giving a little wave over my shoulder and not bothering to close the door behind me. Mel was simply shaking her head as Ellen and Avril stood there with their mouths agape.

“You forget she didn’t really want to attend this thing in the first place,” Mrs. Rothchild said from further down the hallway. “As security, you made the right call. Logistically, you might have a nightmare on your hands.”

I shrugged, seeing Mr. Rothchild behind her, letting me know the Vogels were already there then. “I’m not a leader. This is a scholarship fund extra thank you party, not a state dinner. They overplayed their bullshit hand to start more shit with me, and more than they understand.”

“Oh?” She raised an eyebrow at that. I nodded, taking Mel’s radio off her hip. “Zack, you get a list of who came with crystals?”

“Of course I did. Professor White is here at the front for that sole purpose. While she checks invites, and verifies who people are, and that they’re not using have glamour, we’re doing the security procedures we discussed. But yeah, I got the list, why?”

“Give it to Liluth and Esta after everyone is checked in. That many crystals could have left me fucking brain dead, and it was seriously rude. We don’t allow rude people to shop at our bakery. They get a three-month ban if they apologize. Liluth and the co-op can do as they wish, but I would bet they’ll do the same.”

“Yes, yes, they will,” he agreed, sounding amused even over the radio. “I’ll make sure they get it.”

“Thank you,” I sang, handing Mel back her radio. “Let’s make sure everyone not on that list gets something extra. A basket of fae fruit? Maybe with a feedback card that only they get, as we know how elites love to give their opinions and feel they get a vote on everything.”

Mel held up her hands in surrender when her parents both looked at her accusingly. “She came like this when I met her. Don’t blame this evil genius part on me. I simply taught her to fight back and how to get bad guys.”

I snorted. “Yeah, simply that.” I snapped my fingers and asked them to hold on as I remembered something. I hurried back into the room I had used to get ready and grabbed one of the two file folders I’d been working on in secret. Then I went back to the others and handed it over to Mr. Rothchild. “My present to your clan.”

“For what?” he asked with a frown, glancing from the folder to my eyes.

I smiled, handing it to Mrs. Rothchild instead, who opened the folder. “You swore your clan to be my sword should I need it. I don’t know if I am really of a noble bloodline, but I read before there are certain traditions of my people we keep to if a clan should ever do that. I went back and checked them, and that’s my gift for the honor you have bestowed upon me. I have one for the Silva clan as well.”

Mrs. Rothchild gasped as she read it over. “She bought us a massive ranch with vast lands and paid for the construction of several separate houses for all the cousins and family to stay at when they’re off.”

“Or retired,” I added. “You now have clan land for those retired from service who can still provide support or do whatever, but can also raise your kids away from the dangers of the Vogels if you want—whatever you want. It’s still in their territory, of course, but it’s large enough to hide a lot, and with a good sized forest.”

“Why would you do this?” Mr. Rothchild asked as he looked over his mate’s shoulder.

“It’s who she is, Father,” Mel said easily.

“And it’s what my people do,” I added. “It was in several journals that it was how some packs and groups were started and how their lands were granted to them. I know that doesn’t apply here, but it never hurts to have a vacation house or even an off-the-books place to hide the Vogels, should it ever be needed. That place is buried under several layers of protection and once the work is done, I’ll put up what’s needed.”

“What’s needed?” Mrs. Rothchild whispered, but then her eyes went bug wide. “You can do that?”

“Not over that much land,” I clarified. “But yes, enough to keep the residences safe should you need to lock the area down. I’ll go over it all and how to activate it.” I grunted as she hugged me tightly. “Okay, not a dragon, don’t crush me.”

She chuckled and kissed my temple, but eased up on me. “Thank you, Tamsin.”
Flynn, Erin R. Compounding Traumas (Artemis University Book 6). Kindle Locations (292-336). Supernatural Script, Inc. Kindle Edition.

Seeing Craftsman hurts more than anything and leads to the discovery of yet something else she didn’t know when she runs off for a few minutes. She also spent sometime in Faerie with the fae dogs before heading back to Spain.

Tamsin also had a meeting with the heads of other schools besides Artemis. They needed to put some things in place to follow what human university do. That was an interesting meeting as well.

Returning to school has all the guys wanting to reconcile with her, but she’s having none of it. However, Lucca is the first to break down her walls and get her to listen to him. Then Mel explains somethings about Darby and she listens to him as well, but she takes that a bit further by bringing him to Faerie to have the conversation. They all now have magic tattoos to prevent any of her secrets from being exposed should they be dragged off to a council. The biggest threats still are the Vampire and Warlock/Witch councils. They keep upping their game and cheating as usual.

New Instructors in this book add some twists and more things with Craftsman that were both intriguing and terrifying.

Again much happens in this book including the continuing rescue of Hobgoblins from undesirable working conditions.

Conniving, Plotting, Overcoming and Romance are key things in this book. It’s also filled with laughter, tears and sizzling heat.

Thwarting Cheaters – Artemis University Book 5 by Erin R. Flynn

My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m the last known fairy. Someone found out and that was why I was abducted, which I survived.

And my boyfriend freaking out after drinking my blood.

And all the drama with Mel’s family.

And getting the havens running, which we received so much flack over.

And… A lot. There’s been a lot and it’s sort of a miracle I’ve not been outed or taken out.

Despite the crazy, things are back on track with Darby and I’m enjoying my fun with Hudson. I wish I could say the same about Craftsman, but I can’t. Things aren’t going well there and I don’t know what to do about it.

I’m not sure it’s even up to me.

But there’s already so much on my overflowing plate I’m not sure I can handle him and what’s going on between us—or lack of it. My focus needs to be on Faerie and my people, the fair folk who need me to protect them.

So why does it hurt so much?

At least I have a lot to keep busy with, like our friends starting their business, and the Power Playoffs… Except both come with problems and threats that I can’t hide from or ignore.

So much for the rest of the semester being calm before summer break.

Artemis University is an ongoing hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.

Where to begin as these books are packed with the events in Tamsin’s day to day life. The book starts with the soiree for the witches designs where Tamsin again sticks up for someone being bullied. Not a student this time but a dragon. Lady Jane, is a beautiful woman but her mate’s true love advises her on clothing, none of which is flattering. Hearing Lady Jane’s thoughts has her confronting the man and boy does that start some interesting developments. Of course that’s not the only thing that happens at that party.

Then there’s the Power Playoffs, Julian Craftsman as her advisor wants her to withdraw, since the rules have been changed to try to out her species for all to see. Tamsin on the other hand is preparing with the help of Mel to maybe win if she’s smart about it. Although that whole debacle opens yet another can of worms.

This is a favorite scene.

We ended up in his lecture hall and he plopped me down on his desk, crossing his arms over his chest and staring me down when he probably saw in my aura, I was about to storm right back out of there. Instead, I copied the gesture—mocking him as much as I could in something so simple—and glared back.

I was so into our staring match I didn’t realize at first a few other people were there until Headmaster Edelman cleared his throat.

Craftsman sighed. “I never said you were stupid, duckie.”

“Don’t call me that,” I snapped, knowing he used it in place of “love” when others were around. “Don’t try to charm me when you’re being a dick.”

“Oh, this is going to be entertaining,” Professor White commented as she walked in with a few others of the faculty who knew about me. She smirked at me when I glanced at her. “Professor Richardson snitched on you. As charming as he might never be, he is a good soul and wants to keep you safe.”

Craftsman frowned. “So do I, which is why I said going forward like nothing changed is stupid, not that you were. I didn’t say you were for doing it. I said the plan was.”

“I don’t think I need to explain context to the professor who fucking teaches runes and lectures that intent makes the magic happen,” I snapped. “Your huffing, tone, and flat out dismissive attitude like I was being a child said lots without saying it to my face, Doc.”

He flinched, dropping his arms and blinking at me. “That’s—” he tried to defend but I wasn’t nearly done.

I jumped to my feet and shoved at his chest. “But you were being the idiot. All you were focused on was that one thing and my being humiliated there. So what if I lose? I might get hurt that day. So what? I mean so what? What about the rest? What about the bigger picture? What message will others take away if I throw the competition? You weren’t hearing me that there was more to this!”

He grabbed my hands when I tried to shove him again. “Like what?”

“Like Von Thann is setting her up,” Zack drawled.

I yanked my hands away from Craftsman and locked the lecture hall, throwing up a barrier when I saw everyone was there, all the usual suspects which somehow now included Lucca. I narrowed my eyes at him for a moment but then focused back on Zack. “How did you know?”

He snorted. “Because you wanted to kill him. You were pissed at the other parents and shitheads that plotted this but him you wanted to kill. There was something more to that all school meeting and his gloating announcement. You were so focused like when you’re listening to thoughts and then…”

“Everything about you turned murderous,” Ray explained. “Not just furious but murderous. I thought you might leap up on stage and slit his throat your aggression shot up so fast.”

“It was a thought,” I admitted.

“Set you up how?” Craftsman demanded, glancing between us.

“Yeah, I want to know that too because I thought I had a good grasp on what was going on,” Mel added, giving me a look like she might strangle me.

I winced. “In my defense, I didn’t tell you because I thought you might kill him.”

“I almost did,” Lucca drawled. He gave me a pitying look and answered for me. “Father decided if he can’t have Tamsin under his control as his pet fairy that he’s the gatekeeper for access to as the last one, including who breeds her, he’s going to out her. He thinks that will force her hand to beg for his protection. That’s his plan.

“He used the other parents who want to get revenge for either humiliating their kids by her being better as an unknown mutt among elites or those she’s started trouble with according to them. He came up with a way that he thinks will back her into a corner and she’ll out herself as being a fairy. He can’t figure a way she’ll compete and not expose herself as she’s too stupid not to withdraw.”

“It’s not being stupid,” I growled.

“I know, I know,” Lucca concurred, holding up his hands in surrender. “His words, not mine. I agree.”

“So do we,” Zack muttered, gesturing to himself and Ray.

“I’m missing the bigger picture where it’s a good idea to take the risk even more so now that the goal is to out you as a fairy,” Craftsman admitted.

I went to blast him but I saw the panic in his eyes and it quelled some of my upset. Part of me wanted to actually comfort him because even I could sense the fear coming from him that the supe world would find out I was the last fairy and in such a big way, live streamed no less.

“Everyone is watching her right now,” Professor White surmised, tapping her fingers against her lips as her other hand cupped her elbow. “It’s the main reason no party who wants her has made a move—too many eyes on her. However, if she throws the competition, basically shows our world that she came out of the gate fast but fizzled out—”

“She would lose interest with some parties,” Zack confirmed. “Others would follow thinking it was all overblown or spun rumors and move onto the next whatever. That would give any who know she’s the real deal the chance to make a move once less people are watching. So from a security standpoint, your idea she tank the competition is about the most dangerous thing for her. Idiot.”

Craftsman had a very eloquent reaction to that.

“Fuck.”

Yeah, that sounded about right.

Now aside from the kicking butt that occurs, there are more developments with her love life. She’s mad at Craftsman, then there’s some interesting things with Hudson and Lucca, I didn’t see that one coming. The other thing involving them, well I did mostly figure that one out. Have I mentioned Hudson’s parents are pretty awesome?

Some circumstances are kind of dire and there’s things with the Rothchild Clan that had me in tears. Then more with Darby and his family. I mean dang can’t this girl catch a break.

More interesting projects for Tamsin to invest in, and the ‘book’ at the villa in Spain had me crying once more.

I am already starting the next book in this series, I think I may be addicted.

My name is Tamsin Vale, and I survived my first semester at Artemis University… And several Biblical plagues. Of all the things I’d been expecting, plagues weren’t one of them. We still don’t know who the culprit was or if it was simply a prank, so there’s possibly another threat out there against me.

Add it to the list.

Unfortunately, that damn list is getting long.

But despite all of that, I think I’m getting the hang of this college thing. I like my classes, I’m doing well in them, and I’m making progress on also finishing high school. I have some normal in my completely crazy life with friends, a boyfriend, and typical worries someone my age should have.

Granted, I’m still sleeping with my professor and a dragon prince, while trying to save all fairies, fair folk, and Faerie, but also help my friends and women in an extremely sexist society that treats them like property and fight the corruption of the councils. That should be enough to keep a woman busy for the rest of her life.

It should have been… Except there’s a serious problem the dragons are facing, and they need my help. The lives of millions are at stake, so as much as I want to only focus on my people and my problems, they might have to wait a little bit longer.
This will definitely end with more threats against me.

Winter Blog Review

To say that Tamsin’s plate is full to overflowing is an understatement. She’s one person and she’s trying to right so many wrongs.

The latest developments, Tamsin can up the value of basic crystals to a level of seven, totally unheard of but when she’s really happy it happens. The other big one is heartbreaking, Darby and Tamsin were taking their relationship to the next level when she allowed him to drink from her. Big mistake and one she had no clue about. The people who should have been protecting her and him failed miserably to prevent poor Darby from going into bloodlust.

In this book, Tamsin once again let’s those people have it in spades. She’s more than just a little angry that no one told her vamps can’t have fairy blood and wants to know everything that could be adverse and/or out her.

Now with the plans for a women’s shelter, they are in a position to find those who are a danger to her. This leads to some surprising or rather not so surprising arrests.

Things get even weirder and then dangerous with Mason, the bear shifter who runs with Tamsin. He’s always been a bit of a stalker but this goes way over that line.

I love the Harry Potter references and her English assignment is really fun and leads to an interesting invention. Her mental shielding class was a bit of a surprise though as Hudson was in it. He’s a senior and this is a freshman class. Seems like Professor Koch was a bit lacking in his teaching methods and yes Tamsin calls him on it and gets him to make a deal. If she improves Hudson’s shields in one class he resigns.

This is just one of my favorite scenes.

Damn, he was pretty fucking literal. “Right, yeah, you literal stubborn dragon.” Oh, that was the answer. “Fine, no pressing, but we’re going to heat it. Let River use his fire to heat it as that’s how acrylic and plexiglass is made or whatever. Heat it up and let it melt into that thick, sturdy plexiglass dome.”

“Got it,” he agreed after a few moments.

I saw in his mind he did. I squeezed his hands and opened my eyes, smiling at him. “Good job.”

“What next?”

“Take a break,” I chuckled.

His eyes snapped open and he frowned. “But we have to make progress.”

“Hudson, you just did.” I gave him a soft smile. “You have a mental shield on right now. That’s way more than the fisherman’s net he had you picturing. We’ll build on it later but that’s amazing progress and fast. You’re really smart and—”

He pulled on my hands and leaned in, kissing me full on the lips… In front of everyone. I didn’t remember that fact for a moment and didn’t stop him at first. Then I let go of his hands and pushed him away, nervously chuckling.

“Yeah, yeah, I get it, you pushy dragon. You better also explain that to my boyfriend.”

He winced, seeming to remember the others as well. “I will. Sorry, I’ve just been so…”

“I know, but it was the teacher, not you. You were really easy to work with if someone bothered guiding you.” I glanced over my shoulder and smirked at Koch. “Go ahead and see if I got anywhere with him or if you can keep bullying him. Remember that I can hear if you’re lying as you think you’re so fucking good and you don’t even know how to block your thoughts from a telepath.”

“Tamsin,” Hudson hissed.

“No, let him try,” I pushed. “Let him see what I could do in one class whereas he just wanted to bully you and lecture me that I was just garbage that didn’t know your supe ways.” I pushed to my feet and fisted my hands, getting angry all over again. “I get it, you were bullied as a student by dragons. Hey, Hudson wasn’t alive then, you jerk.

“You had every chance to be the bigger person and move past that, but you’re a sick and twisted fuck who knows saying ‘penetrated’ makes the women uncomfortable and you get off on rooting through their minds to learn about their sex lives. That’s not education, that’s violating them mentally. You’re full of it that others have learned from you.

“I would bet others cheat with charms or hire outside help after one round with you. But you’re so awesome then have a go with me.” I took a threatening step towards him. “Because I have two shields. One mental shield and another keeping my thoughts in, which you do not as I can read your thoughts. That’s not invasive. You should not be looking down at anyone when you don’t even know that.”

“I agree,” Headmaster Edelman said from behind me.

“I tried to warn you,” Hudson grumbled when I flinched.

I slowly turned and glanced over my shoulder, seeing it wasn’t just Edelman but several other deans standing in the doorway. “You said I couldn’t punch anyone for their thoughts, but you didn’t say I couldn’t trick them into making deals to resign when their thoughts are I’m an easy lay and how much he’ll enjoy seeing my escapades and whacking off to them later.”

“Oh dear gods,” Professor White muttered, looking slightly pale at that. “You breeched his mental shields?”

I shook my head. “I don’t know how to do that.”

She gave a slow nod. “You said he doesn’t protect against a telepath. He can’t block you.”

“Right, but it’s not…” I sighed, trying to think of how to explain it.

“Let’s table that for the moment,” Edelman interjected. “Koch, you made a deal with these witnesses?”

“It was a joke,” he lied, flinching when Hudson growled.

“Mr. Vogel, what happened here?” Edelman asked. His eyes couldn’t hide his shock when Hudson answered, and I went to battle for the dragon prince so fiercely.

Yeah, well, I would have even if I hadn’t been worried people would learn we were sleeping together. Hudson didn’t deserve to be treated that way.

“Koch, my office. White, if you would supervise as Ms. Vale finished her teaching of class,” Edelman said, shooting me an amused look before giving Koch a wave to follow… And he might lose his head if he didn’t.

Wait, teaching class? Shit.

Once again there is much to keep up with in this book, Tamsin is again surprised by a meeting, well a dinner with dragon royalty. She does have plenty of backup with her though and also Hudson’s aunt who is also a telepath. The dragons have a problem they need help with and Tamsin and her ability to charge up crystals is the answer.

There are also some very interesting interactions with the Rothchild’s and Mel, one I really didn’t expect.

I am really enjoying Tamsin’s journey as she discovers more about herself and helping so many along the way.

I am getting ready to start the next book, I really need to know what happens next.

My name is Tamsin Vale. I’m the last known fairy and I haven’t gotten busted on that yet. I passed my midterms, which seemed like an impossibility a few months ago given I didn’t finish high school and I’m working on that at the same time. But with a lot of hard work and the support of people I’ve helped and new friends, I’m building a life I didn’t think I could ever have.

It’s still an adjustment. I mean, a few months ago I thought I was human with powers and now I’m hooking up with a dragon prince. Oh, and there’s my powerful warlock professor that I’m also involved with. It’s all casual and fun, but I wonder if it would be more if I was able to connect with them emotionally.

Is it even really smart to try given what else I’m facing? I mean, I am trying to save all of Faerie and find out what happened to fairies. It’s killing me not to know and to move at a turtle’s pace, but one false move and I’m dead… Along with all hope of them returning to this world with me.

Hey, who doesn’t love to work under that kind of pressure?

Artemis University is an ongoing hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.

Winter Blog Review

Tamsin has passed her midterms and Mel, Izzy, Darby and Dr Craftsman are spending the break at Townsend Estate. Workers were coming to start the renovations to turn it into something that more reflects Tamsin. The big surprise there is when the first person out of the van is Natalie, one of the scholarship students. Apparently her family’s business is construction and renovations. That’s the reason she’s so good at runes to change things.

We see Tamsin choosing the things she wants for the house, and also opening doors to make Natalie’s family more successful. Working on finishing high school and figuring out what courses to do over the winter break. She and Darby also start doing ‘normal dating’ and his choice is eating challenges he knows she’d like.

The discovery of fae fruit and also the fairy dust from the hellhounds just made Tamsin’s life more interesting. Back at school Natalie and some of the others want to start a business restoring and reinventing used clothing. Of course Tamsin’s going to help with that.

Parts of Tamsin’s life in the human world surface as the elite girls try to get her kicked out. Then there’s those who will go to whatever lengths they can to get her to declare her species. In this case mimicking the biblical plagues, first water to blood that really made a mess. Then the next day frogs, oh boy!

This is a favorite scene.

They were definitely not natural frogs though because they didn’t just ribbit or croak, but they were all saying “declare.”

Cute. We brought our kitchen-sized garbage can and some plastic gloves Izzy had from a hair dye kit she never used outside to start collecting. Others followed suit and I was glad I’d grabbed our rubber cleaning gloves when someone warned not to touch them as they were magic made and could be secreting something.

That crackling of a loudspeaker happened again before Headmaster Edelman came over the magical intercom. “All students are given permission to use their conduits for basic runes. Be advised, we have a few dragons shifted to help with the situation and all the falcon shifters are in animal form as well. Group together and help each other. Meet in the quad if you need help.”

I had no problem with frogs, but so many and jumping all over each other… I wouldn’t blame anyone who freaked out and ran to the quad to hide behind the big dragons. I was seconds from doing it myself.

Hudson showed up in a towel a few minutes later and shifted once he checked he had the room. I smiled at him and emptied the can full of frogs into his huge mouth, others following my lead.

“Thanks, River,” I told him quietly.

He chuffed at me before tilting his head back and downing the frogs. Gross.

Better than being overrun by frogs, that was for sure.

“Wait, should we get rid of them all?” Izzy questioned when we were in the thick of it.

“You want to keep them?” Natalie asked, giving her a shocked look.

“No, but, maybe? Well, I mean—isn’t this the human bible plagues? Water to blood and infested with frogs? Don’t flies come next? Why get rid of the frogs if we might get flies next.”

“Excellent thinking, Ms. Kincaid, but we’re also worried about what the frogs might be secreting,” Professor White said from the other side of Hudson.

“Wait, what if that hurts the falcons or dragons?” I worried.

“Already tested before we realized that might be an issue,” she answered. Their animals and dragons heal from almost anything as well. We were thinking rashes if they came in contact with skin so that won’t hurt them.”

“Got it.” I looked over at River. “We’ll get you a shit ton of Pepto, I promise. A case of Tums at least. I’ll rub your belly and feed you heartburn meds.”

He rolled his eyes at me and huffed. Yeah, yeah, I was always amusing.

“Fine, we’ll get you whatever you want to eat and as much as you want to make up for all the frogs.” I went back to work and didn’t realize until a few minutes later that River was still chuffing and laughing as much as a dragon could.

“What did you say to him?” Professor White asked me.

I shrugged, thinking of what I’d said, and almost flushed red hot. Right, he’d want to eat me. And I’d just agreed… Unlimited buffet. Oh boy.

Dirty dragon.

“They need more help at the quad,” someone shouted over to us.

“Retreat to the quad,” Professor White ordered. “Unload your cans first and let’s make a run for it.”

Even better, Hudson was letting people hop up on him so we weren’t jumping all around to dodge the frogs that had gotten past us. He just smushed them and shook the ground as he walked.

That was going to be a fucking mess to clean up. Gross. So fucking gross.

“How are you doing so much better than the rest of us?” the dean of vamps called over to Professor White.

Was she the dean of witches? Or did they not have one with Edelman as the headmaster?

Someday I’d get a lock on all of this or even remember the guy’s name.

“Clearly our team leader was smarter,” she called back. “We had one step up with a plan and I heard alerted the falcons to shift.”

Oh, me. I was team lead? Okay then.

I handed Izzy our garbage can after I slid off of Hudson. I went to a section on the other side of him where frogs were just piling up and about to overrun the students. I wrote the rune for ice on my hand and shot it out of my hand to cover the piling frogs.

“Good, I have this,” Craftsman said as he moved next to me. He held out his hands and levitated the huge chunk up and to one of the other dragons, who chowed down.

He pointed where he wanted me to do next and I froze another large section before turning and doing another one. Students jumped in to help as more dragons shifted right on the quad.

The falcons started diving in to pick off stragglers and it reminded me of that scene in Avengers where everyone was flying around and crazy all over the place in New York. Yeah, we had our own battle with frogs on a college campus.

Could I get a cool costume for that?

“Shit, I looked it up and the next plague is lice or gnats,” Izzy told us. “So which is it? Fruit flies is different than fucking head lice!”

“We have runes for head lice,” Professor White assured her. “I also don’t know how they would get that on campus so let’s focus on today’s problem, shall we?”

I let out a yelp when I heard gunshots and I wasn’t the only one, but Craftsman gave me a shocked look as I rubbed my hand over my chest.

“We shot down the drones,” Marshall said as he jogged over with a gun in his hand. He blinked at me shrinking away from him. “What’s wrong with you?”

“I don’t like guns.”

He frowned, glancing from it to me. “Why?”

“I’ve had too many pointed at me,” I snapped and turned away. I was hardly the only person who got nervous around guns or didn’t like them. Then again, I was cool with swords and those made people flinch too.

I heard a shout and turned in time to see River knock Marshall away from me. I rolled my eyes at the big dragon. Hudson and his dragon were so damn protective of me.

It was kind of sweet if I was honest.

More eating challenges with Darby but also with protection. It’s Tamsin who figures out what’s going on with this before the last of the plagues hit. Not to mention all the plotting going on around her to find out what she is to put an end to this.

Plenty of fun, intrigue, some pretty horrible errors of omission, and sizzling heat.

My name is Tamsin Vale and my life is radically different from a few months ago. I’m a college freshman who didn’t finish high school. I’ve inherited more money than I could ever spend after nineteen years of never having much of anything.

I’m the last fairy… And no one knows what happened to the rest of them.

That doesn’t even cover half of it. I’m having hot sex with a dragon prince that I have some weird energy thing with. Then there’s my sexy professor who I can’t seem to stop crossing lines with when I know it’s stupid.

My best friend—who has turned out to be from a dragon knight clan—now works for the college and is helping to keep me safe. And it’s needed since I’m drawing attention with being powerful as an unknown.

Also, because I’m not declaring my species—but how can I when some people on campus can tell if I’m lying? And telling the truth isn’t an option.

Not if I want to stay alive, much less pass the semester. At least I have the school’s best tutor helping me and I like a challenge.

Including handling the impossible, like trying to save all of Faerie.

Winter Blog Review

Okay so here’s what we have so far. Hudson the dragon prince is the first of Tamsin’s lovers. There are several who would like to be but she’s having none of it. We have Mason the bear who flirts constantly and is a bit of a stalker, then there’s Darby her tutor who is giving off mixed signals. She’s still teasing the living daylights out of Dr. Julian Craftsman her advisor and power assessor. There’s quite the attraction there.

In this book we meet hobgoblins, learn more about things that have been kept from Tamsin and she deals with more and different bullying. She’s also discovered she can open the portal to Faerie, and is feeding it her energy to heal it. That’s a slow process but she needs to know what happened.

This is a favorite scene with the hobgoblins.

I was pulling out my phone when I felt something hit my leg.

I looked to my left and no one was there. Until I looked down. A very little hobgoblin was jumping and head-butting my thigh to get my attention. Oh damn, that was so cute.

“Good morning,” I greeted with a smile.

She beamed at me, her skin bright yellow which seemed happy, and held out an apple to me. Why was she giving me a gift?

“Thank you, I was thinking of getting an apple,” I fibbed, glad when she smiled as I took it. “Would you like to join me?”

“Please,” she said. Oh, she was a kid. She sounded like a five-year-old might talk.

I pulled out the chair next to me and helped her up there, realizing she was waiting for me to eat her gift. I bit into it and thanked her again, eating it in between my cereal.

“Me too!” another little voice declared not long later.

I glanced down to find a hobgoblin with orange skin. Nervous? They were holding a plate of cheese and grapes.

“Darfin too!”

“Well, thank you, Darfin, I’m Tamsin,” I introduced, taking the plate from him.

The girl introduced herself as Elasha and apparently the two of them started a trend as five more hobgoblin kids came over and brought me more food. They climbed up on chairs on the other side of the table and just stared at me, smiling when I ate their food.

Okay, this had to be something I didn’t understand. Did they like bright red hair?

Elasha kept touching it and giggling so maybe none of them had that hair color. They all had cute tufts of hair but nothing like doll trolls, and one of the girls had braids so it wasn’t as if it couldn’t grow longer.

Before I could figure it all out, Elasha made a shocked noise and jumped on the table, the others doing the same as they changed colors to bright red, which must mean scared as well as angry.

I turned to see Hudson standing there, watching all of this. I went to stand but Elasha and Darfin tried to block me.

“No, scary,” Elasha declared, looking back at Hudson.

“Him? He’s not scary; he’s a friend,” I promised them.

“Always frowning and upset,” Darfin argued.

“That’s because he hasn’t gotten any hugs today,” I told them firmly, seeing their colors cool off a bit as they glanced between us. I smirked at Hudson, who gave me a look like he thought I had to be kidding and wouldn’t try anything.

Of course I would. Silly dragon.

“Come on, let’s give him a hug and he won’t be so scary. Don’t hugs make you happy?” I smiled when they all nodded.

I picked up Elasha and handed her over to Hudson, who looked completely gobsmacked as he took the tiny hobgoblin child and gently held her.

“Who’s next? Who wants to hug the big dragon prince?”

Oh, it was hard not to laugh when they all raised their hands and jumped around. I started loading Hudson up, smiling brightly at him and pointing to my lips to show him how to do it.

Just to try and push him over, Elasha kissed his cheek and he rolled his eyes, the big quiet gruff.

“What are all you rascals doing there?” a hobgoblin said as she raced over to us. “Oh dear, please forgive me, Prince Hudson, Ms. Vale. We thought the children were outside playing.”

I opened my mouth to ask how she knew my name but she shot me a look that told me something was going on.

What now?

“They must have snuck in to have some fun,” she continued as she picked them off of Hudson. Again I got a look.

“They seemed excited about my hair,” I fibbed, well not completely. “Elasha kept playing with it and giggling.”

“Yes, we don’t have hair such a lovely color,” she praised.

“Or bad dye job,” Katy drawled as she walked by. She was one of Blake’s friends who was now taking center stage as the new leader.

I ignored her and focused on the hobgoblin. “It’s no problem. They were adorable and well behaved, trying to make the big grump smile even.”

“Thank you,” she said as she waved them to come with her. “We’ll be by later to pick up your laundry and handle it for you.”

“Why her?” Katy demanded. “I told you to do mine and you refused.”

The hobgoblin gave her a withering look as her skin turned red. “Yes, because you ordered us to like we’re your servants and we’re not. Ms. Vale has a lot going on and offered to watch our children and play with them.” She smiled at me then as her skin turned back. “We’re here to help as you’re doing something very important and we support you.”

I tried to hide the thrill of fear that raced through me, Katy bitching actually acting as good cover. I was such an idiot.

Izzy had said hobgoblins were fair folk… They knew I was a fairy.

And somehow, they knew I was trying to heal Faerie. Oh boy.

She seemed to understand I’d just caught on. “Dr. Craftsman was looking for you to go over some things, I believe. Do you want me to pack up this food for you, Ms. Vale?”

“Tamsin, and you are?”

“Irma, it’s lovely to meet you,” she introduced, dipping her head. “I knew your distant cousin well and we’re glad the estate is not cold and sad anymore but new life and love to fill those houses.”

Wow, so they were really tapped in. I thought back to a movie I remembered saying the staff and help always knew everything. That might really be true.

Hudson gestured with his head and I sighed, knowing what he wanted but then shook my head.

“No, I’m sorry, but no,” I whispered. “It gives me headaches around so many people, Hudson. It’s hard to have telepathy and everyone’s gotten louder now that the vaccines are out of me.

“It’s deafening in public with so many people and—I finally have silence and peace, okay? Text me if you want.” I gave him a hurt look. “If you want to talk to me and not just with someone who can talk to you that way.”

His eyes flashed shock but I turned back to my food to clean up, needing to find Craftsman.
Flynn, Erin R. Drowning Studies (Artemis University Book 2). Kindle Locations(838-908). Supernatural Script, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

I love all the interactions with the hobgoblins and all the things going on to help them.

Of course Tamsin finds more injustices to right, and somehow manages to learn the things she needs to. Some surprises with her roommate Izzy and well lets just say a lot happens in this book.

Fun, laughter, tears and plenty of sizzle in this one. I am already starting the next.

Special Agent in Charge Seraphine Thomas lives for her job at the FBI. One of the youngest female agents with her own team, she thrives in undercover work to make the city she loves safer. But Sera’s on-track life is thrown into chaos when she’s attacked during a bust gone bad and is left figuring out what it means to be a werewolf.

Right away, she learns that she’s more powerful and able to do things that she shouldn’t be able to do so quickly after her transition. The rules of her old life don’t seem to apply to much now that she’s a shifter, and knowing who she can trust is even more complicated.

When she’s transferred to a special branch of the FBI made up of paranormals policing others of their kind and given a promotion, things start looking up—until her abnormal level of power creates a list of enemies for her before she’s even learned who her allies are.

Winter Blog Review

Some interesting world building for this series. The shifters are out but separated. Humans are afraid so don’t interact with them. They have their own schools and even the FBI has it’s own shifter division. Although said division leaves much to be desired.

FBI Agent Seraphine Thomas encounters a shifter in the process of a takedown. As is protocol she is taken to the shifter hospital and watched for signs of the change.

Unfortunately for her, the signs are there and she is transferred to the shifter division of the FBI even as she learns the control necessary to stay alive.

She’s angry and even more so when she realizes that the division she’s just been put in charge of has no training, aren’t disciplined and sure don’t follow any protocol.

As she is adjusting to her new life, the Alpha of the wolves decides she needs to be in his pack and mated.

I took a deep breath and exhaled, rubbing my temples. My head was starting to hurt from putting up with the ridiculous behaviors of this pack.

“Enough of this!” Joseph yelled at me. “Do you accept his challenge or submit to his dominance?”

“Well no fucking way am I letting him touch me,” I answered. “And if I don’t accept his challenge on the basis of not being pack, you’re going to hunt me down and kill me.”

The Alpha wasn’t stupid enough to say anything at that point. I couldn’t charge him with threatening a federal agent if he didn’t say it. His smile, however, said it all. I was backed into a corner and he knew it.

“What are the rules to the challenge, you chickenshit son-of-a-bitch?” I asked.

“The one accepting the challenge chooses the form.” He grinned evilly. “And they fight until one party cannot fight anymore. It is not a fight to the death.”

“Fine, I accept your challenge, Tony,” I replied, not looking at him. “But know this, if I’m a member of the pack, there will be no breaking of human laws. That means this shit of fighting females into submission stops, or I will have anyone who does it arrested and brought up on charges. Are we clear, Joseph?”

“If any of the females of the pack actually have issue with it, fine,” he agreed, looking like the cat that ate the canary. I was pretty sure if any female said anything against the practice, their ass would be grass.

“Human form.” I took off my jacket, then holster. “But if I shift, I’m assuming you can shift accordingly?”

“Yes,” Tony agreed, pulling his sweatshirt off over his head. Then I had an idea.

“If just my hands shift, can you do the same?” I questioned. “It doesn’t seem fair if just my hands shift in the heat of the moment and you fully shift into a wolf or third form.”

“You can’t just shift your hands.” Tony sneered at me. “That’s not possible.”

“Oh, but it is, Tony. Maybe you should be more careful who you challenge from now on.” I gave him a smirk. Let him stew as to whether I really could or not. “Just answer the question.”

“No, if your hands shift and I cannot shift just my hands, I fight in human form until you change into a form I can as well.”

“Oh goodie, this is going to be fun then,” I goaded, rolling my neck and loosening up. Tony was about my size and built, but I’d had years upon years of martial arts and FBI training. I was pretty sure he was used to picking on people who didn’t have that or relying on his gained strength from being a lycanthrope.

“It wouldn’t be fair if you changed your hands when I can’t.” He started coming towards me, not strutting so confidently. His voice was strong when he said it, but I saw the fear in his eyes.

“Too bad, so sad,” I taunted as we started to circle one another, the rest of the pack backing away from us to give us enough room to fight. I was intentionally trying to piss him off. People who fought with anger were sloppy, making them much easier to take down. “Again, maybe you should have thought of that before you challenged me. You want to yield?”

“Never,” he growled, his body shaking with anger.

“If he shifts while you’re in human form, he automatically forfeits,” I heard someone shout off from the side. I’d have to remember to thank them later for that.

“I like how feisty you are,” Tony snarled. Then his tone softened and he wiggled his eyebrows at me. “Makes it more fun in bed.”

“We just said there would be no more of that, dipshit,” I reminded him.

“Only if the female is dumb enough to say they have a problem with it.”

“Hello! I’m the one who said she had a problem with it. You really aren’t that bright, are you, Tony?” That seemed to be what was needed to set him off.
Flynn, Erin R. Accidentally Wolf (Seraphine Thomas Book 1) (pp. 104-107). Supernatural Script Inc. Kindle Edition.

Now this was just the first successful challenge for Sera. I don’t like the Alpha, Joseph Enders and would really like Sera to take him down. Of course that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

Plenty of suspense as they have a serial killer on the loose. Many arguments over just who’s in charge of the investigation.

Change is already happening for the better, but it will take time before things run as all the human divisions do.

Aside from the investigation, there are many interesting traits that Sera starts to exhibit and unusual albeit hot ones at that.

I love the shifter FBI crew and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
