As the newest recruit at Search and Protect, Raul has a lot to prove. Luckily, he’s got the best friend and partner a man could ask for: a highly trained, fiercely loyal German Shepherd Dog named Taz. Together, Raul and Taz make an unbeatable team. But their first mission in Hawaii really puts them to the test when an international kidnapping ring sets its sights on the bravest woman Raul’s ever met . . .

Mali knows her latest job has put one hell of a target on her back. And on this small island paradise, there’s nowhere to hide. With a service dog like Taz, Mali feels safe. Sharing close quarters with a smoldering muscle-for-hire like Raul, she feels something else – an unexpected wave of desire. Raul feels it too. But when the kidnappers make their move, he’s got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action – and save the life of the woman he loves.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Right off the bat if you are a dog lover you need to read this book. Taz the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) is the hero of this book. All dogs have personalities, but some are so much more.

Raul and Taz are starting their new job with the Search and Protection Organization. Eager to make a good impression, he’s about to start his duties, cleaning the kennels but gets interrupted by a phone call.

Mali is in Waikiki doing post-doc research of a nefarious sort. When men in black suits start pursing her and her team, she works her way toward the Search and Protection Organization where her sister works. Unfortunately everywhere she turns she sees them. Getting desperate she calls her sister Arin, but instead gets Raul.

Raul only knew of Mali from talks with Arin while they were deployed. Once he and Taz find her he knew he was in trouble. This was a gorgeous woman, not the child from Arin’s memories.

Plenty of suspense and action, family drama, new friendships and team bonding. I laughed, cried and sighed as this relationship develops under extreme circumstances.

Taz is awesome and his interactions with Mali while doing his job make me want another dog. He is smart, expressive and a joy to read about.

Only one thing bothered me in this book and that is they didn’t get information on those who were missing from the start. I would think they would have gotten descriptions and done background checks on them just to see if any had previous connections to the bad guys.

I love anything to do with service dogs, rescue dogs, military dogs and this series covers them all. I can’t wait to see who Piper writes into this series next!

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

In this steamy and sexy first book in the Kingman Brothers series—filled with relatable moments and electrical tension—a disgruntled assistant is wrangled into staying on to help her boss when he suffers from amnesia after a plane crash.

Sophie Jordan dreams about hooking up with Nicolas “King” Kingman—the gorgeous CEO of her company—but as her boss, he’ll always remain out of reach. King knows he isn’t built for happily-ever-afters and only indulges in brief romantic encounters. But when Sophie agrees to fill in as his last-minute date to a charity gala, an unexpected discovery quickly escalates their platonic relationship to one of passion.

King is determined to ignore their attraction and, feeling betrayed, Sophie severs ties with him and the company. Everything changes, however, when he’s injured in an accident, and Sophie agrees to help until he closes a major deal. Unfortunately, he’s developed amnesia, and although he doesn’t remember their night together, desire binds them in ways they can’t resist.

Time is running out on closing the deal, as well as Sophie moving on to her new career. Will King deny love in favor of winning and lose Sophie forever?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

This book was a bit of a twist on what I consider the norm for rich boss and employee romance and I liked it.

Sophie is the best admin the Kingman brothers ever had, and never has Nic ‘King’ though about her in any way other than that. That is until he fought with his flavor of the week and had a friend dress her to attend a gala with him.

One night of passion followed by rejection has Sophie quitting her job, two weeks notice.

His plane going off the runway leaves him with a head injury and no recollection of their one night of passion, or the things he discovered at the gala.

Sophie makes a connection that will help her make the decision to leave King once he’s well enough to return to work. His friend Meghan who dressed her for the gala has a new clothing line coming out and she is designing and making the jewelry to compliment it.

I liked the twist of the guy having the accident and having to figure everything out again, including the way he managed to lose the girl.

A fun read with angst, family drama, sexual tension, plenty of sizzle and so much more!

A favorite scene is in the excerpt below, don’t miss it and don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

5 Contented Purrs for Nina!

He pulled into a space, threw the gear in park, and got out. Sophie’s shocked expression alone would whip him down to size. Guilt over dreaming of her naked would replace his attraction to her. That’s exactly what he needed. A heaping pile of remorse.

Signs with numbers and arrows led him through the maze of duplexes in the courtyard. In the past, he’d followed her from work after a long night to make sure she’d made it safely home, but he’d never actually gone to her apartment before. King located the right door and rapped on it. Not that he had a good reason now.

A porch light flickered on above him. He heard movement inside. What if Sophie’s roommate answered? He’d forgotten about her. Shit. What was his excuse? A lost phone number. Problems accessing the presentation from his computer.

Sophie opened the door. Devoid of makeup, hair swept back into a ponytail, and dressed in a faded green tee and jean shorts, she radiated uncomplicated beauty. “King? What are you doing here?”

He barely squashed the need to take her in his arms and went inside. “We have to talk. Is your roommate here?”

“No. Robin’s at work.” She closed the door. “Why? What’s going on?”

“When were we together?”

“Yesterday. Don’t you remember?” The genuine concern in her expression made him feel like a cross between a jerk for thinking of her sexually and a man struggling to prove his sanity.

“No. I mean yes.” He raked his hair and pulled so hard his scalp stung. “When did we sleep together?” Shock. Laughter. An emphatic denial. He braced for them.

Sophie paled. She shrugged and brushed her bangs from her forehead. Her tell. She planned to deny what happened.

No way in hell was she getting away with that. “How long ago was it? Weeks? Days? Why didn’t you tell me?”

ONE LOOK AND HE WAS HOOKED

A photograph. A feeling. A knowing. That’s all it took for Dante “Zed” Zaragoza to realize his fate was intertwined with a woman he’d never met. Now it was up to him to find Marcia Price and bring her home safely. Thankfully for Marcia he’s temporarily part of the Black Dawn SEAL team, who are on the hunt to locate eleven people whose yacht had gone missing in the South China Sea. A photograph means she’s alive…for now.

SHE NEEDED A HERO

Marcia Price realized she was in the hands of a monster as she was dragged deeper and deeper into the jungle. She wanted to give up so many times but dammit, no matter what, she would survive this even if it almost killed her. And maybe, just maybe, the universe would send her a hero.

HE’LL MOVE HEAVEN & EARTH

Zed’s blood turned to ice the moment he found out the history of the man who had Marcia in his grip. He wasn’t just a sociopath, he’d been trained as a SEAL. And that was only the beginning. Zed would need more than his standard bag of tricks if he and Marcia were going to get out of there alive…

Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

First I want to thank Buoni Amici Press for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This book opens in the jungle with a hostage situation. Several very prominent people are being held. One of them former NSA Director Harold Brockman and his children. One of the problems is that their yacht has been blown up, making rescue unlikely. That is until the director fakes a seizure and they let his daughter search for an EpiPen. In reality she is looking for a watch that shields a homing device, it will alert the correct people of their whereabouts thus dispelling any thoughts that they are all dead in the explosion.

As the team prepares for rescue our hero Zed sees a photo of Marcia. That photo has him itching to get on with the mission. That woman was his, she just doesn’t know it yet.

The mercenaries think Marcia is the oldest of the three Brockman daughters and was playing the role to keep herself safe.

Unfortunately for her when the team arrives she was away from their hut with the youngest daughter at the makeshift latrine. Taken by Raymond, one of the most vile of the mercenaries, she needs to stay alive and after her sarcastic comments earn her a backhand from him that leaves her seeing stars she realizes she needs to be subservient, no matter how hard it is.

As the hostages are being airlifted out, Zed starts his search for her.

This is a favorite scene when he catches up.

Zed was closer to the women than he was to the boat, but neutralizing Raymond was the smart move. He started toward the river, but then saw that Raymond was pushing off from the shore at the same time he lifted his rifle and fired more shots at the women.

“Get down,” Zed shouted to Marcia. Zed raised his rifle and took aim at the same time Raymond dropped to the deck. He’d obviously heard Zed’s shout. Dammit.

“Help us,” Marcia shouted.

“I need to stop Raymond, or he’ll come back for you,” Zed objected.

“Forget Raymond. He hurt Hana, we need to get her to a doctor.”

Zed looked back at the boat. Goddammit, it was already floating toward the middle of the river. He headed toward the women.

When he reached the trio, Marcia started talking again.

“Come on, we have to hurry. Raymond said there was some kind of camp down river.”

Zed looked down at the little brunette giving him orders and barked out a laugh, he couldn’t help it. “Before you start acting like my commanding officer, aren’t you going to ask who I am?” Zed asked sardonically.

“You were shooting at Raymond and trying to help us. I pray to God you’re one of the good guys.”

Underneath all the dirt on her face, he saw the swelling on her cheek and eye, and he took note of the tear tracks. He couldn’t tell if her attitude was an act or sheer bravado. He saw her lower lip tremble. Ah, hell.

“Marcia, didn’t you know, the bad guys think they are the good guys,” Zed said gently. He tried to get a look at the mother and baby, but the mother jerked away from him, cuddling her child close. “Who’s Hana?” he asked Marcia.

“You called me Marcia,” she said excitedly. “Mr. B. sent you.” A smile broke over her face, and it hit him right in the gut. “Hana is the baby. He yanked her away from Nurul, I’m pretty sure he broke her arm, that’s why she won’t stop crying. After that, he threatened to kill Nurul’s father if she didn’t get Hana to stop crying.” Marcia’s voice broke, “Then the bastard killed him.”

Zed watched as a tear spilled down her face.

“Marcia, we need to go,” he said as he looked toward the water. Even though the boat was down river, he would still feel a lot better when they were hidden in the trees. “You can tell me everything when we’re safer.”
Caitlyn O’Leary. Her Wicked Hero (Kindle Locations 885-904). ARC – NOT FOR SALE OR DISTRIBUTION. Kindle Edition.

In the aftermath of the rescue it becomes apparent that Raymond is obsessed with Marcia.

Plenty of drama and hold your breath moments as Zed and Marcia get to know one another.

I love smart, strong women, and Marcia fills that role to a tee in spite of her insecurities, relationship wise. Zed has his hands full with her and I loved watching him pull her out of her shell.

I loved Zed’s team and since I started this series at the end instead of the beginning I now have to go back and read the rest.

Emotional, sometimes scary, action packed, with sweet yet sizzling sex and some giggles make this book a must read.

KindleLogo Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

Just when I think Becca Jameson can’t possibly make a series any hotter, she does just that.

Carter has been falling for Brooke since he first met her. He watched as Faith introduced her to the lifestyle in the hours before the club opened. He had given her the paperwork and told her to call him with any questions, but it was Faith she turned to.

Brooke’s day has been a total disaster, she lost her apartment, which she knew, but losing her job came as a horrible surprise. In spite of that she decides to keep her appointment with Faith. One last release and she’ll never go back to the club again.

Now that Faith has given in to her true submission with Rowan, she is doing a final scene with Brooke before turning her over to Carter for aftercare and hopefully more training.

This is a favorite scene when Carter follows her as she flees the club.

At fifteen minutes, he gave up. Impatience ate a hole in him. He put the truck in drive and turned into the lot. He approached slowly, turning his lights off as he got closer, hoping to see in her windshield.

For a moment, his heart stopped. She wasn’t in the car. He couldn’t see any evidence of her at all. He panicked. Was she so desperate to rid herself of him that she’d taken off on foot?

He parked several yards from her Pontiac, turned off his engine, and jumped from his truck. He jogged the distance from his vehicle to hers and came to a sudden stop when he saw inside.

For a moment, he couldn’t breathe, and then he let out a long, slow exhale. She was inside, curled on her side in the fully reclined driver’s seat, a pillow stuffed beneath her head, a blanket covering her body. She didn’t move. She didn’t appear to know anyone had approached.

Another glance at her back seat filled in the blanks. She wasn’t waiting on him to leave so he wouldn’t follow her home. She didn’t have a home. This car was her home.

He staggered back a few steps, trying to control his emotions. Fuck. Why was she homeless? She had a job. He doubted it paid well, but it was a job. Why was she living in her car?

He ran a hand through his hair, pacing back and forth, trying to pull his emotions together so that when he approached, he wouldn’t scare the fuck out of her.

Finally, several deep breaths later, he closed the distance and leaned against her car. Before he could figure out what to do next, she bolted upright. His shadow must have alerted her. At least she wasn’t fully asleep. He feared he’d scare the piss out of her if he rapped on the window.

“Jesus,” she shouted, setting a hand over her heart. “Are you kidding me?”

He waited.

She turned her head away from him and stared out the passenger window, her chest rising and falling with every breath.

“Brooke,” he said loud enough to reach her, “open the door.”

“No.”

It occurred to him that he’d never heard her cuss. The harshest word she’d said since he met her was Jesus, spoken a few seconds ago. “Open the door,” he repeated. “I’m not leaving.”

She flopped back down on her side and curled into a ball, drawing her knees up to her chest. She looked so small and vulnerable. Was she crying?

Her body shook. Yeah. She was crying.

Dammit.

He lowered his voice. “Brooke… Baby, please open the door.”

She didn’t obey his command, but she did curl in deeper, turn farther away, and sob harder. He could hear her now.

“Baby, please…” His chest literally hurt for her. What happened in her life to bring her to this moment? He had no idea, but he fully intended to fix whatever it was.

He knew very little about this woman, but it didn’t matter. It was enough. She was alone. She was homeless. She was hurting. She needed help. Even if she never gave in to his advances, he would not leave her like this.

She cried for a while.

He waited, both hands on her car door, leaning in, watching, hurting for her, praying she would open the door.

Finally, she glanced at him and blinked. She rolled partially onto her back and stared at him forever. She swallowed— weighing her options?

The standoff continued. He waited some more, not moving. Not giving in. He would never give in.

She clenched the blanket with her fists and pursed her lips.

He waited.

She took several deep breaths, her body relaxing marginally. Streaks of tears dried on her face.

He wanted to wipe them away. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to chase away whatever happened in her life to put her in this position. And he vowed to himself that he would fix this if it was the last thing he did. Even if she never let him touch her. Even if she entered the lifestyle right under his nose and found a Dom who was willing to beat her.

No matter what, he was going to be her friend. Starting now. “I’m not going to leave without you, Brooke. Please, baby, open the door.”

More time passed. More waiting.

Finally, after an eternity, she reached for the lock and lifted it.

I love Carter so very much. He does manage to convince her to move in with him but it was a long hard struggle of wills.

Filled with plenty of surprises, this book is truly one of the most emotional, hottest and sexiest ones Becca has written. Don’t miss it!

KindleLogo Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

I am loving this series. This one is a take on Beauty and the Beast.

Having reached the end of his modeling contract, Rafe has had more than enough of the shallow, self-serving world surrounding him. He returns home to Virginia, set on finding something he really loves to do.

Miss Ethel, the woman who raised him and his ‘brothers’, is a crafty woman. She entices him to take the job as groundskeeper for a nearby shut-in. Of course she neglects to mention said shut-in isn’t old or infirm.

Sighing, she walked carefully to the stone wall, in the shadows of the terrace, to peer over into the ravine below. The river rushed by, the waterline high.

Hearing a noise behind her, she glanced back, startled at the sight of a large man stepping to the edge of the terrace, seemingly unaware of her presence.

Jerking around, so that her back was to him, she felt her breath rush from her lungs fast as the river below. “You… you’re not supposed to be here.”

“Oh, ma’am, excuse me,” he said. His voice was deep and rich, its timbre resonating through her. He continued, “I didn’t mean to come where I wasn’t supposed to, but this area isn’t safe until I clean it up.”

She nodded jerkily, knowing he was right but unable to turn around to face him. Indecision rooted her to the spot, her heart pounding furiously.

“Ma’am, I’ll step around the side of the turret, allowing you to enter your house in private. Once you’re safely inside, I’ll come back to clean the area. I’ll… uh… let you know when I’m finished.”

Nodding again, she now felt foolish. He must think I’m a crazy ol’ bat. Clearing her throat, trying to regain control, she said, “Yes, please. That would be best.”

She heard his steps retreating from the stone patio, and she limped toward the door, her legs strangely weak. Once inside the glass-paned terrace door, she closed it behind her, drawing the heavy curtains.

Walking forward a few feet, she stopped, her heartbeat still racing. Swallowing deeply, she hurried toward the study down the hall, far from the terrace. Slipping inside, she slid into a chair, before she allowed the tears gathered in her eyes to tumble down her cheeks. Dropping her chin to her chest, she hated the impression she had made on him almost as much as hating the need to be alone. Life had been so different once… a long time ago. As thoughts of her former life, and the life she had planned, moved through her mind, she wondered if a life of seclusion was all she had to look forward to.
Maryann Jordan. Rafe – ARC version – not for sale or distribution: Heroes at Heart (Kindle Locations 896-913).

As Rafe gets the outside of the estate looking pristine, our heroine Evelyn, starts thinking about her life and the cruelness of the world that caused her to hide away.

Storms lead the way to them actually meeting face to face. The twists and turns in this story will keep you wondering if these too will ever get together.

It’s a good thing Rafe isn’t one of those sit and watch TV guys, the cottage that comes with the contract has no TV, it does however have books. Lots and lots of books. Having him settle in to read after dinner is inspiring in itself. I really loved that when he looked around his temporary home he thought of a Hobbit house.

Full of references to several classics including Jane Eyre and The Hobbit. This is an entertaining love story you won’t want to miss!

Sadie Jennings was used to being protected. As the niece of Sean Taggart, and the receptionist at McKay-Taggart Group, she was constantly surrounded by Alpha men more than capable, and willing, to lay down their life for her. But when she learns about a friend in trouble, she doesn’t hesitate to leave town without a word to her uncle to help. After several harrowing weeks, her friend is now safe, but the repercussions of her rash act linger on.

Chase Jackson, no stranger to dangerous situations as a captain in the US Army, has volunteered himself as Sadie’s bodyguard. He fell head over heels for the beautiful woman the first time he laid eyes on her. With a Delta Force team at his back, he reassures the Taggart’s that Sadie will be safe. But when her past catches up with her, Chase has to use everything he’s learned over his career to keep his promise…and to keep Sadie alive long enough to officially make her his.

Sadie has been under the protection of Chase Jackson since one of the kidnappers Jonathan, got away during the rescue of her, her friend Milena and Milena’s son. The book opens with her arguing with her Uncle Sean (Taggart), who reminds her she wouldn’t like the protection he and Ian would provide her.

She has a problem though, she feels this attraction to Chase but she really thinks he dislikes her.

Chase on the other hand, is trying very hard to keep his hands to himself. Recognizing that this is not the time to start a romance but knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt that this woman is his.

This is a favorite scene when Sadie accuses Chase of being her babysitter. Forgive the language, it is necessary.

“Let me make something perfectly clear, Sparky the last thing I think about when I’m around you is babysitting. You’re what, twenty-five? Only two years younger than me?”

“Yeah,” she answered reluctantly, hating that she’d thrown the same words at Chase that she had her uncle. “But you act a lot older,” she told him defensively when he didn’t say anything.

Chase grinned at her. Fuck, she was cute.

“And don’t stand there smirking at me,” she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.

The smile left Chase’s face. “I’ve seen a lot,” he told her quietly. “Too much. So much that there’s no way I’m going to leave you here to fend for yourself when that asshole is out there, dying to get his hands on you. That is in no way baby-fucking-sitting. I can protect you Sparky. Make no mistake.”

“Why are you calling me that?” she asked, instead of commenting on his over-the-top statement.

“What…Sparky?”

“Yeah.”

Chase grinned. “Red Hair, Explosive personality. Fire. It fits you. I like it.”
Stoker, Susan. Resucing Sadie (Delta Force/Masters and Mercenaries) (Kindle Locations 255-262). Kindle Edition.

One of the things Chase does is move them into Fletch’s garage apartment, I swear everyone stays there at some point, it’s become a very safe and handy refuge.

It’s great to see Ghost and Rayne, Fletch, Emily and Annie. I love Annie and her introduction to Sadie is priceless. Smart and precocious she brightens every book she’s in.

However, all is not fun and games what with Jonathan still out there and a first encounter doesn’t end well.

Chase gets quite the surprise at the barbeque get together with the folks mentioned above. It had me in tears, you’ll love it!

As usual, our heroine doesn’t get off easily, I love the strong determined women Susan creates.

A page turning, hold onto your seat, grab some tissues, sexy and satisfying conclusion to the story begun in Justice For Milena!

Remy Guidry doesn’t do relationships. He tried the marriage thing once, back in Louisiana, and learned the hard way that all he really needs in life is a cold beer, some good friends, and the occasional hookup. His job as a bodyguard with McKay-Taggart gives him purpose and lovely perks, like access to Sanctum. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman with stars in her eyes and babies in her future.

Lisa Daley’s life is going in the right direction. She has graduated from college after years of putting herself through school. She’s got a new job at an accounting firm and she’s finished her Sanctum training. Finally on her own and having fun, her life seems pretty perfect. Except she’s lonely and the one man she wants won’t give her a second look.

There is one other little glitch. Apparently, her new firm is really a front for the mob and now they want her dead. Assassins can really ruin a fun girls’ night out. Suddenly strapped to the very same six-foot-five-inch hunk of a bodyguard who makes her heart pound, Lisa can’t decide if this situation is a blessing or a curse.

As the mob closes in, Remy takes his tempting new charge back to the safest place he knows—his home in the bayou. Surrounded by his past, he can’t help wondering if Lisa is his future. To answer that question, he just has to keep her alive.

The Lexi Blake Crossover Collection features a new novel by Lexi Blake and five books by some of her favorite writers:

A Big Thank You to Susan Stoker for the gift of this ARC! I am so happy to review this great beginning to a New Kindle World!

Not only does this book set up for the Kindle World, giving just a glimpse of the rest of the stories. It also has one of the Masters and Mercenary bodyguards leaving to return to his roots.

When Remy looks at Lisa he sees what the world sees, a beautiful, educated, and wealthy self-assured woman. He also feels an insane attraction to her which is his reason for refusing to dominate her a Sanctum.

Lisa has some problems, she just blew the whistle on the accounting firm she worked for. Her first job since getting her Master’s degree. No one want’s to hire her, and she’s the only one who can testify about the content of some missing pages from the confiscated books.

Her family decided she needs a bodyguard, but she can’t know about it. She has battled with her brother Will over it and isn’t likely to give in. Needing money she decides to take a job offered her by one of her neighbors. Bartending at a strip club wouldn’t be a problem for her, that’s how she made money in college.

This is a favorite scene with Remy after everything falls apart her first night on the job.

Please, Lisa Daley. Please let me take you home. I’m worried stray dogs and cats are going to think you’re a movable feast and some random club kids will decide you’re a walking rave and party around you.”

She grimaced. “That bad, huh?”

“I think you’re cute as a button, ma crevette,” he admitted.

“Okay. But only because my feet are swollen.” She stuffed the dollar bills into her bag and then the shrimp that had been on her shoulder fell and she shrieked but managed to catch it.

“It’s not alive,” he said quietly, looking around to see if anyone was calling the cops on the massive dude and the tiny woman who had screamed. She stared at it for a long moment and the he heard her stomach rumble. Damn. The woman was hangry. He could understand that. It was one part of savage beast he could soothe easily. “Are you thinking about eating that?”

“Yes,” she admitted. “But that would be gross. Right?”

In the distance he heard the sound of a siren wailing. It appeared the ambulance was coming for her erstwhile customer. Remy pulled the shrimp out of her hand and tossed it away for some lucky roaming cat to find. This particular kitten had just found herself a keeper. “Pizza is on me.”

The way he calls her ma crevette, the dominance clear in his actions and words. Words that become even more romantic when he does a suspension scene with her.

Danger, suspense, attraction, family drama, alligators, assassins, plenty of heat in more ways than one and so much more!

I confess to only having read the first of the Masters and Mercenaries Series. Unable to resist, I bought Masters and Mercenaries Bundle: The Early Ops (Books 1-5) to learn all about some of the other players in this book.

Hiding one’s true self might be possible in the human world, but grizzly shifters aren’t easily fooled.Gavin Wright is human. He is also not out. He has no intention of ever coming out. He’s unwilling to face the condemnation. Lucky for him, he’s had the privilege of hiding his true self inside a fake relationship with his best friend, Paige, for ten years.

Dale Gerben is a grizzly shifter. As such, he has the ability to sense things humans cannot. Therefore, it comes as a surprise to him that Gavin thinks he’s so well hidden from the world. He isn’t hidden from Dale. And Dale is up for the challenge.

It’s a summer fling. No one in the human world will find out. Dale needs someone to help him heal old wounds, and Gavin needs someone to show him what he’s capable of if he’d just trust himself.

No one needs to get hurt. Until they do…

Two young girls are missing. There’s an accident. A race against the clock.

Neither man will ever be the same.

KindleLogo Barnes and Noble logo_150 ibooks-logo-150x150KoboLogo

While each of these books is standalone, I do recommend reading the series in order.

Now I don’t read much MM unless there is an F in in there somewhere, but this story is so intricately entwined with the previous book – Grizzly Promise I had to read it.

Now shifters have a totally different view of things since they can smell arousal. That was how Dane knew Gavin was interested in him. What he didn’t know was that Gavin wasn’t out and that revealing himself would lose him his family. One thing was certain, Paige wasn’t going to be able to play his girlfriend anymore. She and Wyatt are mates and he’s not going to stand for her agreement with Gavin.

This is a favorite scene at Dale’s home, where Gavin finds the way to inform Dale he knows about shifters.

All his thoughts were way too premature for action. He had no way of knowing yet if Gavin was even a bottom or what sort of kink he enjoyed. If any.

Instead, he set his palms on the counter at his sides, white-knuckled the marble, and forced himself to remain where he was. “So, what do you do when you aren’t pretending to be in a het relationship?”

Gavin swallowed, setting his bottle on the island. “If everyone in this town is as intuitive as you, we’re in a heap of trouble.”

Dale frowned. “Why? I’m not understanding the need for the pretense.”

Gavin sighed. “It’s a long story.”

“You’re not out.” How had he not thought of that before now? Inwardly, he cringed. Outwardly, he stood rigid, pleading with whatever power of the universe that had made him attracted to this most inappropriate man. So far there was nothing about Gavin that Dale would normally find attractive. He was human. He wasn’t out. Worse—he was so totally not out that he lived in a pretend world with a fake het relationship. The man didn’t even like beer. He was a freaking college student. Dale didn’t go for anyone with even one of those qualities. Ever. And yet.

Gavin winced, lifting his gaze. “No.”

“And you’re hiding behind a fake relationship? That’s cold.” He stiffened. Why would any woman consent to such an arrangement?

Gavin shook his head. “It’s not quite as unequal as you’re envisioning, and I’ve never once forced Paige to continue the farce. She’s free to pretend to break up with me anytime she wants. In fact, I wish she would. It seems Wyatt Arthur is her…uh…whatever you want to call him.” His gaze darted to the counter where he reached for his beer and traced his finger through the condensation on the outside of the bottle. Had he been about to say mate?

This was always a conundrum whenever a shifter met a full human—figuring out how much they knew without giving away anything unnecessary. Though it was interesting to note that Gavin could have simply asked Paige if Dale was a shifter and they wouldn’t be engaged in this awkward dance.

Dale nearly slapped his forehead when it occurred to him that Paige had no idea Gavin was here in his house. Why was he keeping this secret from Paige? So many questions. He decided to fall back on his regular standard method of inquisition to put an end to the charade. “It would be so much easier if we kicked the elephant out of the room now rather than dance around it all evening.”

The line worked perfectly. Any human with no knowledge of shifters would assume he was speaking of sex. Any human who was well informed would react totally differently.

Gavin hesitated and then chose not to take the bait. Instead, he glanced at the row of windows behind the kitchen table. “I seriously doubt you see a lot of elephants in this part of the country, but I bet you have some grizzly bears.” He bit his bottom lip again as he returned his gaze to Dale’s.

Dale glanced at Gavin’s mouth and licked his lips. “More than you can imagine.”

“That’s what Paige tells me.”

Dale couldn’t stand the distance or the dance another moment. He shoved off the counter, rounded the island, and pressed his front against Gavin’s back, flattening his hands on the marble on both sides of the smaller man’s frame. He set his lips on Gavin’s ear and whispered. “The bear population is larger than what you’d find recorded anywhere. You never know where you might find one.”

Dale also has his secrets as is revealed by all the computer equipment he has. But he really loves building things.

This is an inspiring tale, wrought with emotion, missing young girls and a sizzling love story. One that definitely brought out my tears more than once and with giggles, and sighs to round everything up.

Wrangling Wanda
Special Forces & Brotherhood Protection Book 5

No one taught him how to disarm his heart…

Clayton “Brick” Wall specialized in explosive ordinance removal, but a near miss, which almost cost his team their lives, left his nerves shot and his spirit a little broken. Even with his trusted buddy Hondo at his side, medical discharge feels like just another test he didn’t study for—what the hell is civilian life anyway? A friend sends him to Montana to heal and the Brotherhood Protectors give him a place, and a purpose.

No one taught her to stay over the safety net…

Ex-CIA asset, Wanda Aiken is working overtime to keep her grandfather’s Merry Circus afloat. Coming back had never been a part of the plan, but she’s burnt on operations and family is family. When a series of accidents threaten to sideline the whole operation, she’s torn between going old school, and throwing in the towel.

No one taught them how to not go it alone…

Sent to protect Wanda, Brick’s not prepared for the stubborn, infuriating woman determined to do it her way. All he needs is one foot to get in the center ring. Fortunately Hondo has four paws and Wanda’s charmed by him.

KindleLogo

Once again Heather takes us on a journey of suspense and love with plenty of chuckles as well.

I couldn’t help but giggle at the name Clayton ‘Brick’ Wall, such are the nicknames given by buddies in the military. However my true love in this one is his bomb sniffing dog Hondo. Hondo and Brick were partners in the military and Brick was fortunate to be able to adopt him as they both left it under medical discharge.

As a child I always loved the aerial performers at the circus, so as we learn about Wanda and she takes to the high wire I can visualize every move she makes. Having returned from years in Europe, she is in charge of this tour of the Merry Circus. A small traveling extension of her family’s main event in Vegas.

This is a favorite scene with Brick, Hondo and Wanda as Brick tries to learn more about her.

“You know an awful lot about this.” She dragged her gaze off the dark and looked around Hondo. The dashboard lights only partially illuminated his face. The shepherd gave her a kiss on the cheek, a light swipe. Running her fingers through his fur, she gave the dog a scratch just above his collar.

“I’ve been doing some research,” Clayton admitted. “Hank and his guys began to deep dive everyone’s backgrounds.”

Of course they had.

“Including yours.”

Sensing a reckoning, she waited.

“I also asked a friend to pull your records. You’ve got a scrubbed background check, a very thorough and squeaky-clean one. So which did you work for?”

“The circus.” It wasn’t a lie. She’d worked for several of them.

“Wanda,” Clayton’s voice dipped low and a shiver rolled across the surface of her skin. “Is it possible they didn’t scrub you as thorough as it looks? Could someone from a life you didn’t lead in a job you didn’t do for an alphabet agency you won’t admit, be gunning for you?”

Laughter spilled out of her at the absurdity of the question, and she shook her head. “If anyone from a mythical life that didn’t happen on a continent where I worked for the circus, and didn’t do any side jobs for anything resembling an alphabet agency were to come looking—I’d guess they’d be a lot more direct than bloody threats on a trailer door and a fire to drive me out of my trailer.”

From suspicious activities, to geeky moments, this book will have you turning the pages. I didn’t see it coming and the true hero of this book is Hondo. I love Military and Service dogs so very much!
