CAN HE GET THEM TO SAFETY IN TIME?

Navy SEAL, Cullen Lyons, knew the moment he saw Dr. Carys Adams treating her patients in an African war zone that she was stubborn, selfless and extraordinary. Ignoring the danger surrounding her, she concentrated on keeping the young mother and newborn alive. Now it was Cullen’s job to evade the brutal rebel forces who had targeted Carys and the young family and get them to safety.

HOW WILL THEY SURVIVE?

Carys knows that a three day journey to Khartoum could kill her patients, but staying in hiding would sign their death warrant. She had never met a man like Cullen Lyons, every instinct told her that she could trust him, that she had finally found someone she could lean on, but what if she was wrong? Was he really the hero he seemed to be?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogo

We first met Carys in ‘Her Steadfast Hero’, the first book in the Black Dawn Series. After that ordeal she stopped deploying with Doctors without Borders.

When Abdalla Hamdok the new Prime Minister asked if she would come and consult with Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors she weighed all the pros and cons but finally agreed. Now she was once again in the thick of things.

Called out to attend a woman in labor she takes Faizah, one of the nurses with her to watch over the woman’s other children while she helped the mother.

Necessity called for a C-Section to save both the child and mother under very primitive conditions, and a cursory check of the children showed abuse to the point one child could have internal bleeding.

Not having a vehicle had Carys is despairing over how to get the child treatment while the mother recovers enough to travel. It then that Navy SEALs show up looking for her.

Cullen Lyons and Raiden Sato need evaluate the situation and evacuate them. This means splitting up and Raiden taking Faizah and the children to the hospital in Khartoum and returning for them.

I really love Cullen’s interaction with the new baby as he encourages Carys to get some sleep. Although as her patient is waking up, she is in the midst of a nightmare where she is back in Santa Flores.

This is a favorite scene.

She struggled as she felt a hand over her mouth. She scrabbled away from the strong grip, digging her nails into the thick wrist above the hand that covered her mouth.

“Carys,” wake up. It was a commanding voice. She recognized it… barely. She was still lost in her dreams and having trouble separating the dreamworld from reality. She blinked fast, and finally, Cullen came into view. He was holding a baby.

The baby was crying, and she could hear another voice crying out weakly.

Shada.
Africa.
Navy SEALs.
Again.

“Carys, are you with me now?” His voice was now full of empathy and caring. She couldn’t stand that. If he was too nice to her, she’d shatter.

She pulled at his wrist and nodded. Cullen let go.

“I need to go to Shada, are you good with him?” He nodded again, obviously not wanting to do or say anything that might upset her fragile composure.

She pulled herself up off the lumpy makeshift bed and went in to see how Shada was doing. When she went behind the curtain, she found the woman half on, half off the bed. “Where are my children?” Carys gave a wan grin. God please the woman, she was trying to be demanding and Carys was so proud of her show of strength even though she had to be weak as a kitten. But she needed to get her back into the bed so she didn’t rip her stitches.

“They’re getting help. Your daughter Farida needed medical care in Khartoum, she and your other daughters went with Faizah to get some. Your new baby is here. You still need a day or two to rest before we can take you into Khartoum to be with the rest of your family.”

“No! My husband is there, he will find me and kill me.” She grabbed at the sweat-stained sheet. Carys made a note to switch out the sheet with the other one she had drying on the line. “Give me my baby. You must get my other children. We will go to Egypt. My mother’s uncle lives in Cairo.”

“Does he know you?” Carys asked calmly as she helped Shada back into the bed.

“No, but he will do the right thing.” It broke Carys’ heart to see the look of frantic hope on Shada’s face. The woman knew as well as Carys did how many refugees ended up stranded in refugee camps when they sought asylum in other countries. Carys had worked in too many of them— even this life here, that Shada had, was better.

“Right now, you need to focus on getting well,” she said to the weak woman. “Let me bring in your son.”

“My baby is a boy?” she asked in awe.

“He’s a healthy, beautiful boy,” Carys confirmed. She stroked her fingers down Shada’s wrist, subtly checking the IV insertion point, then she placed her fingers on her wrist and looked at her watch so that she could take her pulse.

“When can I hold my son?”

“In just a moment,” Carys assured her. She loved the look of love and wonder on Shada’s face. She tugged the stethoscope from around her neck and listened to her heart and lungs.

“Now can you get my baby?” Shada pleaded.

Carys took off the blood pressure monitoring cuff. She was disturbed by how low her BP was. It was not good at all, and it wasn’t because of the painkillers. “Shada, I’m going to need to press on your abdomen again, okay?”

Shada looked at her with trepidation. Finally, she nodded. Carys pushed firmly, doing what she needed to do to help the woman’s uterus contract. Shada was crying by the time she was finished.

“All done. Now I can bring him in for a visit.”

“Thank you, Doctor.”

“Wait!” Shada held out her hand. She reluctantly pulled down the sheet. Then she also unbuttoned the nightshirt that Faizah had dressed her in. “I don’t think my milk has come in.” Her expression was anguished.

“Ah, Honey. It’s all right. Sometimes it takes a while. I’ve already been feeding him formula, he’s doing fine. Trust me, everything will be fine. Let me go get your son.”

Carys went around the blanket and almost ran right into Cullen. After her nightmare, it was disconcerting to have to look upwards into the face of such a large man. Normally she would be a little bit fearful. But really, how could she be when confronted with a man who was humming a lullaby to a tiny baby?

“I heard,” he whispered. “Here you go,” he deftly placed the little boy into Carys’ arms. “Is she good to feed him? A bottle I mean. I warmed up some boiled water, mixed in the formula and then let it cool.”

Carys shook her head and smiled. She was impressed. “You did? Yes, she’s fine.”

He went and plucked the bottle off the rickety table. “Here you go.”

“Thanks,” she grabbed the glass bottle from him and ducked behind the blanket to where Shada was in bed waiting for her son. When she handed the newborn to his mother and saw the two of them together, tears welled up. She was stunned. That wasn’t like her. Normally she kept it together far better than this. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to cope with some of the things she had been forced to see over the seven years she’d been with Doctors Without Borders, but that dream had really messed with her head.

“Thank you, Doctor. You saved us.”

“You did all the work,” Carys said as she watched the beautiful sight of Shada feeding her child.

“I have decided on a name. I shall call him Adam.”

Carys sucked in another shaky breath.

Again, with the tears?

“I am honored.” Shada continued to stroke her baby’s hands as she nestled him next to her. He’d scored a nine on his Apgar test and had all indications of being a big and sturdy little boy if he got enough food. Now she watched as Shada started to whisper things into her son’s ear. Carys could hear the promises she was making. She wanted a better life for her son, one without pain.

She couldn’t handle it for another second, she fled out into the main area and once again ran straight into Cullen.

Things are rapidly changing in Khartoum and it becomes apparent they would have to find a way to travel on their own.

This is an action-packed, emotional, and at times romantic journey through rough and dangerous territory as Cullen and Carys work to keep both mother and child safe.

I can’t wait to see who finds love in the next book!

Lucy

I’m restless.
I can’t put my finger on it.
I have all I’ve ever wanted.
I should not rock the boat of my perfect life.
Daddy takes care of every detail.
But there’s something missing.
I need more.
Even if it means risking everything.

Roman

I’m worried.
I’ve never been more nervous.
All I want is for my little to be happy.
But I’m no longer sure I’m enough for her.
Especially when she’s so clearly full of doubt.
She wants more.
She deserves the world.
Is it time to let her go?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogo

The Surrender series contains BDSM relationships and Lucy and Roman’s is a Daddy Dom/Little. On top of his normal business Roman also owns the BDSM Club Surrender. This is the third book in the series and the second one involving Lucy and Roman.

When we left Lucy and Roman they had reached an understanding for her to attend college and not remotely. Now she’s graduating, a milestone in her life but she’s also feeling the need for something more. She’s just not sure what.

For her graduation party Lucy wanted to stay in her relatively adult clothing and not transition into her role as a little. Master Roman wasn’t prepared for her to ask that and as a result she faced punishment before the dinner party takes place.

It’s the next day that we get more insight as to Lucy’s restlessness.

This is a favorite scene.

The only times I have not been twelve in this house have been the moments when I’ve left for school and the moments when I return before changing into my at-home clothes.

I won’t break my role. I’m comfortable in it. I don’t even know how to be his equal anymore. I don’t want to be. Our arrangement is perfect for both of us. He’s caring and nurturing and doting and loving. And I crave all those things. They make me feel safe and loved.

I take a slow breath and meet his gaze. “I’m nervous about what happens next, now that I’ve gotten my degree.” That much is totally true.

He leans forward, putting his elbows on his knees so that his face is more level with mine. “Nothing has to change, blossom. I’m so proud of you. I also know you’re determined and you like to work hard. I had thought you would work for me.”

“I’ve always worked for you,” I point out. I’ve worked fewer hours in recent years, but I’ve still helped him in his office.

“More,” he points out. “As much as you would like. Part time. Full time. Whatever makes you happy.”

What if what makes me happy would be working outside the house?

I bite my lower lip. I’ve thought about this. A lot. Working here for him in his home office means being his little at all times even when I’m working. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

I’ve enjoyed the times when I’ve left this house to go to class the past few years. We struck a deal, and I left here every day as both his little and as a regular college student.

The agreement was perfect. A win-win for both of us. Master Roman knew there was no way in hell I would ever let anyone find out what I wore under my college clothes, which gave him an unnecessary comfort. Unnecessary because I would ever be interested in another man anyway. I’m in love with him. Head over heels. I’ve never even considered looking at any of the boys in my classes. And that’s what they are to me. Boys.

Master Roman is almost twice my age. He’s also twice the man of any college kid. I’m clear on that.

But now I’m not in college. I have a business degree. My peers have been interviewing and accepting jobs for months. I’ve watched them stress and fret. I’ve also seen the girls come and go in pencil skirts, blouses, and pumps. Their hair professional. Their nails done. Makeup perfect.

I’ve watched all this from the side, a tight ball of jealousy forming in the pit of my stomach. Part of me craves that transition to adulthood. What if I tell Master Roman that’s what I want? I know in my heart he won’t like it. That’s why I’ve remained mute.

“Lucy…” His voice is stern.
Becca Jameson. Leaving Roman (Kindle Locations 658-679). Becca Jameson Publishing. Kindle Edition.

The conversation they have is more one sided, with Lucy not contributing all the relevant facts. All this leads up to Lucy leaving until she can decide what it is she wants and can be open and honest about it. Roman deserves nothing less and a BDSM relationship has to be bound by trust and honesty or it can be detrimental to both side.

I really love the way this book shows both Roman and Lucy what they’ve started doing wrong. Lucy turns to Claudia for some help and Julius, Beck, and Levi offer a safe place for her to think. She does however, end up going to the apartment Roman set up for her near the campus, to be alone with her thoughts.

When Lucy’s half brother shows up, things take a very interesting twist.

This is a very emotional book from both inside and out of the BDSM relationship.

I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.

Releasing March 31st: Keys and Kisses – Untouchable Book 3 by Heather Long

Keys and Kisses
Untouchable Book 3
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Heather Long

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

When the year started, I had one goal—make my AP classes count and keep my grades up. Both my focus and my grades started wobbling. Dating my best friends came with perks like hugs, kisses, and invitations to dances, but it also came with cons in the form of vindictive posts, hate mail, and vandalism of my car.

I asked if it could get any worse, and I guess I got my answer.

My college essays suck.
My mother and I are racing toward a collision.
My secret admirer might turn out to be a real friend.
My dance partner wants to walk away to preserve our friendship.
My best friend demanded I keep no more secrets.
My first offered to move in with me.
My second… he’s got my back.

They all do.

But what brought us together seems to be tearing us apart and I can’t jeopardize those friendships.

I won’t.

I thought losing them was the worst thing, but losing even one… it might be the change we can’t survive.

The real key here isn’t what do I want… it’s am I willing to fight for it?

P.S. I still need to get a damn dress.

NOTE:
*Please note this is a reverse harem and the author suggests you always read the forward in her books. This is the third in a series and the story will continue through future books.

This book starts right where we left off in the last one, so if you haven’t read the others yet, stop now and go read them in order.

Shopping with Cheryl was definitely an experience for Frankie and Coop. I’m pretty sure he was wondering what the hell he had gotten himself into by the time they hit the changing rooms with 27 dresses…The whole first chapter was my favorite and had me giggling.

Here’s a taste of it.

Lips next to my ear, he said, “I’m sorry.”

Twisting to look at him, I raised my brows. “For what?”

“I thought you were exaggerating,” he said in a tight whisper. “This really is going to take all night.”

He pressed a kiss to my cheek, and I covered his hand on my abdomen. “Yep.” My stomach gurgled. “We will need some major sustenance if I manage to survive this.”

“You will,” he promised. “I’ll be here, every step of the way.”

That made me feel better. “Thanks for coming,” I said, and he grinned before hugging me against him.

“Glad I could be here, now go find your dress, Cinderella.”

I laughed. “That would be shoes.”

“Don’t worry,” Cheryl called. “We’ll go out for shoes after we figure out the dresses.”

I must have looked as stricken as I felt, because Coop put a hand over his mouth but couldn’t quite muffle the snicker. Someday, I was totally getting even for this. It wasn’t Coop’s fault, but he was here, and he was having too much fun at my expense.

In honor of that, I kissed my finger before I flipped him off. Once I was shut back in the changing room, he cracked up for real. Leaning against the door, I stared at the dresses.

This was going to take forever.

Forever, it seemed, lasted about ninety-nine minutes. Not one hundred. Ninety-nine. Yes, I set a timer on my phone. I wanted something to write about in that journal I had to fill out, and as awkward as this was, it was so much better to try and focus on than the fact there’d been no word from Ian.

Not a peep.

I tried on the skater dress, the mermaid one, the dresses with one slit, dresses with two slits. I fit into the lace crop top and satin mini-skirt— Coop was a serious fan of that. The fact he took multiple pictures said as much.

When I walked out in the pale, silvery blue illusion gap dress, however, Coop and Cheryl both went absolutely silent.

“Wow,” he’d exhaled, and leaned forward.

“I’ll say,” Cheryl commented slowly. “Twirl.”

I did, and the skirt had the slightest bit of flare.

“That might be the one.” She’d decided on hers, but we were still trying them all on. It was the principle of the thing. And I had to admit— I loved the dress she’d found for her. It was pink, lacy, and had a sheer lace overlay on a satin skirt. It was stunning. While not my favorite color, it looked amazing on her.

I’d left the red dress for last. I had no idea who picked it out— I hadn’t seen it before we carried all the dresses in. It was simple, spaghetti straps, a curve bodice and the rest just fell straight down. No fitted waist or body-hugging cut. While I couldn’t wear my bra with it, it was the first dress I put on that I actually felt comfortable in.

It clung without being clingy. The skirt moved easily and fell to my calves. The pair of slits played peek-a-boo with my knees but didn’t really gap open unless I moved.

If Coop’s reaction to the illusion gap dress had been anything to go on, the red dress blew it out of the water.

“That one,” he said without preamble as I stepped out. I grinned and glanced down, then rose up on my toes like I had on pretend heels.

“Yeah?”

I’d actually beaten Cheryl for once, but her door opened as I made a little twirl. She was back in her crop top and shorts. She paused to stare at me and nodded.

“Definitely that one.”

Just like that, I had a dress. I ran my hands over the hips on it and then faced Coop again. He nodded as he snapped a picture. “Yes, Frankie. That one. You look great, you look like you feel great, and it’s perfect.”

Relieved and a little elated, I slipped back into the changing room and took the dress off. As I hung it up, I tugged out the tag and stared at it.

That was two weeks of tips… for a dress.

“Now that you have the colors,” Cheryl said. “We can go get shoes.”

“No,” I answered. “Not tonight.”

“But there’s a great place…”

“I believe you, but I’m toast. I’m starving. And I’ve kept Coop up way past his bedtime.” I crossed my fingers. Please play along.

“Well, she’s not wrong. You know, I’m eighteen on Thursday, it’s all down hill from here.”

I grinned before mouthing Thank you, Coop to myself.

“Well, it is almost ten, and we still need to buy these before they close.”

Almost ten?

Seriously?

I snagged my phone from on top of my shorts and stared at it. There were some messages from Archie and from Jake. Both giving me ratings on the various dresses.

Jerks.

But I was grinning.

The red dress won their votes, too.

I glanced at the dress and then the phone. Then I tabbed to Ian’s message thread.

Ghost silent.
Heather Long. Keys and Kisses (Kindle Locations 204-246). Kindle Edition.

There’s a lot going on on this book as the situation with Ian changes to the point where Frankie makes some decisions. Lots of fighting among the guys and the reasons become clear eventually.

I Love Rachel! She is becoming the best friend ever. Her snark brings lots of laughter and her wisdom some peace.

Sharon’s at it again but Frankie isn’t taking it anymore, I can’t say more about this except it’s awesome.

Coop’s birthday has more than one surprise.

Homecoming is in this book and I absolutely loved the girls, Cheryl and even Marie have some things to share with Frankie.

The guys made me laugh, cry, laugh and cry some more.

But Frankie she has my heart, her mother doesn’t deserve to have a daughter like her. She goes through many different things in this book and the emotions fly up and down like a roller-coaster.

I really can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Half Blood
Helheim Wolf Pack Book 1
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Lauren Dawes

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

A WAR IS BREWING AND SHE IS THE ULTIMATE PRIZE.

Rhett’s position in the Helheim wolf pack is tenuous at best. Born to be alpha, but shunned for a birth defect, he must battle every day to prove his worth to the pack. All of that changes when he’s selected as the Guardian of the last Half Blood in existence.

Indigo’s hard exterior hides the dark secret she carries within her blood. She’s a fighter. She’s a survivor. She’s hard-wired for survival, but she’s on a collision course with fate and there’s only one person who can help her.

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

Before we start with Rhett and Indie’s story we get a rather peek at a man with a rather violent past.

We meet Detective Vaile Wolfe who is also a werewolf as he is investigating what looks like a murder scene minus the body. He also doesn’t seem to be able to keep a partner, that is until Officer Larissa Grey. The two of them are assigned to a serial rapist case that plays an interesting role that intertwines with Indi.

Then we get to meet Indi, she works at her brother’s coffee shop and she has a problem with men touching her. The result of a brutal attack that resulted in her training to protect herself. She also has a guardian in the form of a co-worker Rhett, he knows things about her she doesn’t have a clue about. Another interesting fact is she is fine when Rhett touches her anyone else not so much.

After an altercation with a customer, one that gave ME the creeps, we get to know her brother Jerry a bit more and he also instills Rhett with some trust where Indi is concerned.

This is a favorite scene.

“Do you want to tell me what happened?” he asked again.

Indi met his steady gaze and lifted her chin in defiance. “There’s nothing to tell.”

“You know you can tell me anything, right? Did he say something inappropriate to you?”

She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest. Jerry’s eyes swept the floor in thought. When the idea struck him, it made him feel sick to the stomach. “Did he…did he touch you?” his voice dropped to a hard whisper. “That was it, wasn’t it?” Jerry couldn’t believe he’d allowed that to happen to her in his cafe. He’d be the one pressing charges if she confirmed his suspicions. “Indi?”

She shrugged, refusing to look in his eyes. She wasn’t going to talk, and there was not a damn thing he could say or do that was going to change her mind.

“Well, if you decide you do want to tell me about it, you know where I am.” He stood up, opened the door and called Rhett over. If Indi wouldn’t tell him what he needed to know then he’d get his information from somewhere else. “Indi, can you give us a minute, please?”

“Sure,” she replied. As she went through the door, Indi and Rhett exchanged a look, but Jerry ignored it; he was more concerned with getting to the bottom of what had happened.

Rhett’s bulk took up a lot space in the small room. Jerry took a step back from him and began pacing. Rhett patiently watched Jerry and his pissed-off attitude wearing a hole in the linoleum under his feet.

“I want to know what the hell happened out there. I don’t want the edited version. I want to hear it all. I know that you lied to me before. If you don’t tell me what I need to know right now, I get to fire your ass. You got me?” Jerry’s voice ended up in a growl.

Rhett nodded. “All right. I’d been keeping an eye on them after I noticed how she reacted to him the first time. When I saw him grab her wrist, I started making my way over to them. She had her knife on his throat when I got there.”

“My god,” he breathed.

“I managed to get her to back down, but just as she was about to leave, the guy mouthed off and she cold-cocked him.”

Jerry’s thoughts were a tangled snarl. It had happened to her again, and under his watch, too. He felt physically sick. “Did you see him touch her again at all?” he eventually asked.

Rhett shook his head. “No, but judging by her reaction to him, I’d say that he had.”

Jerry swallowed thickly. “Why did you lie about what happened?”

“Indi can’t afford to lose her job.”

“But you were willing to risk your own job to protect her.” A statement—not a question.

He shrugged. “She needs this more than I do.”

Jerry asked, “Do you care about her that much? You hardly know her.” He was speaking from experience. Indi hadn’t truly opened up to him until she’d lived in the same house as him for two years, and even when she did talk about herself, Jerry could tell she was holding back.

Rhett shrugged his broad shoulders again. “I know her enough. Besides, I can’t stand by and let a woman get manhandled. I did what any man would have done in my situation.”

That earned Rhett some big brownie points in Jerry’s book. He put his hand out to the guy. “Thanks,” he said. They clapped palms and did the manly chest-to-shoulder hug. “I mean it, Rhett. Thanks. I feel so much better knowing that someone else is looking out for her. I had no idea that was what was going on. I took my eyes off her for a second, just a second.”

He shrugged. “Don’t worry about it.”

Jerry and Rhett left the storeroom in time to start the final clean-up. Indi was just closing up the cafe, flipping the sign on the door to “closed”. Jerry studied her face. She was retreating in on herself, so much so that Jerry couldn’t tell what she was thinking anymore.

“I’m ready to go when you are, Jer,” Indi announced fifteen minutes later.

“Okay,” he replied, just as his phone began beeping. He pulled it out and looked at the reminder flashing on the screen.

“Dammit,” he said, putting the device back in his pocket.

Indi asked, “What is it?”

“I forgot that I had to meet someone over at the apartment in fifteen minutes. I’ll call him and tell him that I can’t get there for another half an hour.”

“Wait. Don’t do that. Was this a date?”

Jerry laughed. “No. He’s my squash partner. We had to reschedule a match to tonight.”

“You should go. I can get home by myself for once,” Indi said, shrugging.

Jerry shook his head. He had started walking Indi home in the evening ever since a maniac rapist had started terrorizing women in Buxton. And there was no way in hell that he’d let her walk alone tonight.

“Would you like me to walk her home?” Rhett asked Jerry softly.

“Are you sure?” “It’s no problem at all,” Rhett replied.

Jerry gave him a sharp nod. “Thanks. I owe you.”
Gimpel, Ann. Rising From the Ashes: A Charity Anthology for Australia . Ann Gimpel Books, LLC. Kindle Locations (6004-6044). Kindle Edition.

Of course the customer shows up where he doesn’t belong leading to even more suspense.

There’s also many more players in Rhett’s pack, the reason he is Indi’s guardian, and another someone following Indi. Plus so many twists and turns as Rhett has to admit his feelings for her although he has rejected her out of character advances.

I really loved this book, now I need to continue the series.

Echoes of Blood and Glory – Daylight’s Crown Book 3 By Ripley Proserpina

She’s already cheated death once…

Rose’s hometown is a war zone. A madman holds Boston in his clutches, using an army of ravenous immortals to take what he wants.

Only Rose, Horus, Seti, and Ra stand between annihilation and survival. So, while the vampire brothers had sworn they wouldn’t fight again, they’ll do what they must to protect the woman they love.

But Rose has changed. She’s ready to charge head first into battle, and more than willing to lay waste to anyone who threatens her vampires.

The prologue of this book gives us much incite as it details Horus, Seti, and Ra’s past.

Then we continue on with the our tale of Rose and her vampires. Horus isn’t healing as fast as he should and that has everyone worried.

This is a favorite scene.

He wasn’t healing.

Horus touched the scabbed scrape across his lower torso, dragging his fingers over the raised purple wound. He knew the phases of healing. He’d watched his body fly through each one. Beads of blood solidified into a scab that sloughed off, leaving bruised skin that reddened, then pinked, and finally, disappeared completely.

From the moment he was born, that was how he healed.

This. This. A lingering wound still tender to the touch. This was wrong.

“What’s the matter?” His eldest brother, Ra, had sensed his disquiet.

“Nothing,” he was quick to answer. He wanted to work this out before he worried them.

“Liar, liar, butt’s on fire,” Seti, his twin, teased.

“Pants, idiot,” he couldn’t help but return.

“You’re sleeping with Rose,” Seti said. “Why are you wearing pants?”

True. He wished he wasn’t wearing pants, but his relationship with the strange and beautiful girl who slept by his side hadn’t progressed to that point. They were still learning each other. Still stealing kisses and holding hands.

He’d never done this with someone before. His experience was limited to quick, frantic couplings whose only purpose was to relieve tension.

With Rose, everything was drawn out. A touch of her fingers could get him hard faster than… well, than anything he could remember.

Next to him, Rose let out a breath and snuggled closer into his side. The curtains to the bedroom were open. There was a full moon, and it made the interior as bright as daylight.

Rose’s eyes danced beneath her lids. She was dreaming, and if Horus concentrated, he’d be able to see the scenes playing in her mind.

This was another thing he hadn’t told his brothers.

She was already picking up on their conversations, overhearing bits and pieces of the communication that always stayed between the three of them. Every so often, she’d answer a question one of them had asked the other.

In their minds.

Horus didn’t think she realized it yet.

But this connection was different. It was something Horus could see that the others couldn’t. It was an experience unique only to him and Rose. The bridge between dreams and memory wasn’t long.

Horus had almost died. He’d come closer than he ever had before to becoming nothing.

Because before he could disintegrate into ash, Rose had saved him.

He was bleeding out, dying, and she gave him her blood. If he thought hard about it, he could remember the pain that came with it. Her blood was poison, but also human. It helped him stay alive long enough for his brothers to arrive.

Now, though, things were different. Dreams and memories. Healing and pain. They were a part of Horus’s day to day.

“I’m not ready,” Rose said. Her body jerked, and he pulled her into his arms.

“Shh,” he soothed. Her curls were tangled, but he stroked them from the crown of her head to her neck, and she slowly began to calm. “What are you dreaming?”

The question pulled him from the reality of their bedroom in a town outside of Boston to someplace he didn’t recognize.
Ripley Proserpina. Echoes of Blood and Glory: Daylight’s Crown, Book 2 (Kindle Locations 78-105).

Dr. Stone still wants Rose and is doing much to draw her out. It’s not easy since her vampires are protecting her and her friends have gone into hiding.

Now there’s so much more going on and since Rose can’t analyze her own blood, she decides to investigate the properties of it that she exhibits. What she learns is quite the turning point.

This is a page-turning read, with plenty of hold your breath action, tears and laughter. I love the relationship between Rose, Horus, Seti, and Ra, it’s quite the love story with plenty of sizzle!

Retribution – Dogs of War Book 3 By J.M. Madden

Retribution
Dogs of War Book 3
By
NY Times & USA Today Bestselling Author
J.M. Madden

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

The Dogs of War have rescued American servicemen from research camps run by the Silverstone Collaborative. Now it’s time for the company, and it’s owner Damon Wilkes, to pay for what they’ve done. Wulfe Terberger is the man to bring them to justice.

With the cooperation of the CIA and a covert informant, they begin taking down the conspirators, but Damon has disappeared, and kidnapped his own son to hold as protection.

Elizabeth Wilkes has stayed in her sham of a marriage only for the sake of her son, but when her soon-to-be ex bastard kidnaps her child, all bets are off. She’s been working behind the scenes for years to secure her company and her son’t future, but it’s time for her to come out of the shadows to take control.

That also means reconnecting with Wulfe. They were an item years ago and now she needs his help if she is to get her son back. As they chase Damon down, Wulfe and Elizabeth have to fight the attraction they feel for each other…

Since the men broke out of the hell that was the research camp, Wulfe has been instrumental in getting them where they are now. In the last couple of books he’s been a bit of a mystery as he works behind the scenes in Washington. He hasn’t heard from his informant and he’s very worried. In this book we find out the who and the why.

Elizabeth Wilkes is the major shareholder in Silverstone, not her soon to be ex Damon. She’s now going to have to come out from behind her own research and shutdown all the bad Damien’s created.

Apparently Damon has his own ideas as he takes off with their son and his bodyguard. Leaving Elizabeth distraught and seeking help from the only person she knows can help, Wulfe.

This is one of my favorite scenes.

Wulfe took the seat beside hers, propping his arms on the counter. “I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to tell you,” he said honestly.

Elizabeth reared back like she’d been slapped. He had the information, obviously, but refused to tell her? “After all this time,” she breathed, looking away. Somehow this betrayal hurt more than any of the others, because Wulfe had always been in her corner. He’d never treated her the way everyone else thought they had a right to.

The change was shocking. More shocking, actually, than anything else that had happened recently. If he wasn’t going to give her any information, then he probably wouldn’t help her find her son, either. The despair that swamped her then was enough to drown her. Closing her eyes, she did everything she could to tamp down the panic trying to take her over. Panic wouldn’t do anyone any good, especially her son. The longer they sat here not doing anything the further away her son could be traveling. Damon had vast resources, thanks to her. He could be heading to the end of the world right now, and she would be none the wiser.

Wulfe touched her shoulder, and she glanced at him. Taking a breath, she forced down the hurt. Her son needed her. “I understand why you don’t want to get involved, but I have no one else to turn to. No one else has the resources to figure out where he’s gone. You know things and can get things done.”

“I never said I wouldn’t help you,” he growled, baritone voice rumbling. His German accent deepened when he was aggravated. His heavy black brows furrowed over his eyes. “I have to be careful though. Look at it from my position. We’re in the middle of taking down a company that has been testing on servicemen from a dozen different countries, all financed by your husband. You’ve been married to him for many years, quietly working on your own projects in the background.”

She scowled. “Are you seriously going to compare my endeavors with Damon’s? I don’t think we’re anywhere near the same playing field.”

“Probably not,” he agreed easily, “but from an outsider’s perspective looking in, you were working at the company every day. You’re on the board and listed as Director of Research. People will assume that you know everything that goes on there. Including the forced research with the Ayahuasca.”

Elizabeth blinked, knowing he was probably right but not sure how to change that perception. The position that Damon had put her in was highly suspect, and she wondered if he hadn’t been planning this for when it would all come crashing down around him. No, she didn’t think he had any idea that things would fall apart like they had. He’d been too distracted recently.

“So, what can you tell me?” she asked finally. “Are all of the men you rescued going to survive?”

He frowned as if the question surprised him. “They should, yes. Some have injuries that will keep them in the hospital for weeks, maybe months, but they should all recover.”

Again, he stared at her for a long moment, his dark blue eyes probing. “When is the last time you saw your son?”

Her throat tightened with emotion again. “Last night when I checked on him before bed. I kissed his cheek and told him to plug in his cell phone. He tends to use the thing until the battery is completely flat, which leaves it useless.”

Wulfe nodded. “Then?”

“This morning I woke up and I thought he was just sleeping in a bit. His tennis teacher doesn’t come until ten so I didn’t begrudge him the extra time. Then Lukas called me. Damon wasn’t answering his phone. I knew something was wrong, because he always answers his phone, even on the weekend. I went up to the bedrooms and I could tell there was stuff missing from the closets. There was cash taken from the safe in the master bedroom, and the game system Blake likes to play was gone from his console.”

Wulfe scowled. “When could he have done this?”

Elizabeth looked away. “I assume early this morning. I sleep on the other side of the townhouse in the mother-in-law space. I dozed off on the couch and I didn’t hear anything. All of his security men are gone, as well as Blake’s personal guard.” Wulfe slipped off the stool and moved to stand at the expansive windows on the opposite side of the apartment. The city lit him from behind and she was struck with how big he looked. Protective. Strong. He had to help her because she had no one else.
Madden, J.M.. Retribution (Dogs of War, Book 3 (The Dogs of War) (pp. 7-9). Kindle Edition.

It wasn’t too difficult to find where Damon was hiding out,  Elizabeth’s son Blake and his bodyguard Noah were capable of helping out a bit.

So many things happen in this book, we learn so much more about Wulfe and his relationship with Elizabeth. There’s plenty of emotion, action, laughter suspense and tears.

Plus we get to  see everyone from the previous books as more and more pieces come together, and the attraction between Elizabeth and Wulfe grows exponentially.

I really can’t wait for Catalyst to be released!

May McGoldrick

Scottish pride, persuasion, and passion—
this is Highland romance at its breathtaking best.
From USA Today bestselling author May McGoldrick
comes Highland Sword,
the third book in the Royal Highlander series.

A VOW FOR VENGEANCE

Fleeing to the Highlands after her father’s murder, fiery Morrigan Drummond has a score to settle with Sir Rupert Burney, the English spymaster responsible for his death. Trained to fight alongside the other rebels determined to break Britain’s hold on Scotland, she swears to avenge her father’s death—until a chance encounter with a barrister as proud and principled as she is presents her with a hard choice…and a bittersweet temptation.

A PLEA FOR PASSION

Aidan Grant has never encountered another woman like dangerous beauty Morrigan—and he has the bruises to prove it. Yet she could be the key to defending two innocent men, as well as striking a death blow to the reprehensible Burney. Convincing Morrigan to help him will take time, but Aidan is willing to wait if it means victory over corrupt government forces and freedom for his people…and Morrigan’s hand in marriage. Can two warriors committed to a cause stand down long enough to open their hearts to a love fierce enough to last…forever?

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

I requested and received an ARC of this book from the publisher.

I love strong heroines especially in a historical romance where they were expected to just be prim, proper and not concern themselves with things considered to be ‘manly’.Morrigan has vowed vengeance after her father is killed. She’s learned to fight, and when she sees the man while she’s in town the time is right. Or so she thought.

Barrister Aiden Grant is looking to get testimony out of the man called Sparrow. Sparrow had been selling out the Highlanders to the British for years. Now he wants to make restitution, but what is the actual cost?

Morrigan is set to get her vengeance but is blocked and gets into a bit of an altercation, losing her knife in the ensuing fight she has no choice but to flee.

In interesting circumstances, Morrigan’s prey ends up at Dalmigavie, home to Searc and Isabella as well has the hope of the highlands Cinaed. Unfortunately for her so does the man she had the fight with.

Oh so much fun, tension and romance as this story unfolds, along with some very uncomfortable secrets. I really do love Morrigan and Aiden.

I really have to go back to the beginning of this series, I need to get to know other characters in this book.

1001 Dark Nights: Sexy Love – The Sexy Series Book By Carly Phillips

1001 Dark Nights: Sexy Love
The Sexy Series Book 4
By
NY Times & USA Today Bestselling Author
Carly Phillips

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Learning curves have never been so off-limits.

Professor Shane Warden is on the verge of getting tenure. He never thought he’d see the day, after a false accusation from a student years ago that nearly destroyed his career, and decimated his ability to trust. But the moment he walks into class and lays eyes on the seductive blonde with legs that go on forever and lips he immediately wants to kiss, he knows he’s in trouble.

This time for real.

Single mom Amber Davis is finally living her dream of going back to college. In the ten years since she dropped out to have a baby–and recover from his father’s death–it’s been the goal that always felt just out of reach. Until now. But one look at her hot, sexy professor, and Amber is head over heels in lust. It doesn’t take long before their attraction blazes out of control.

Neither of them can afford a forbidden affair.
Yet it’s the one thing they are powerless to stop.

It will only take one hint of a rumor to destroy everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve… and in this case the rumors are true.

NOTES:
**For fans of Carly’s Sexy Series, Sexy Love is book four in that series.**

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

I’ve loved every story surrounding Club TEN29 and this one is absolutely perfect.

Ten years ago while she was grieving for Levi, Amber Davis found out she was pregnant. She made the decision to leave college and raise her son. Levi’s twin Landon, his parents and her own have been very supportive of them. The men who were there when Levi died in a hazing incident opened Club Ten29 in his honor and have decided Amber should have her dreams as well.

Landon, Tanner and Jason have finally convinced Amber to move to Connecticut close to Levi’s parents and college. They all want the opportunity to get to know LJ. LJ will be spending the summer with his grandparents in the city, sight-seeing with them and his uncles.

Amber is taking summer classes, the ones that are a prerequisite for other courses for her degree. With LJ away it will be easier to establish a routine of studying and working.

In a wonderful meet cute, she runs into Shane on her way to find dinner on campus. He offers information on the places to find things as they have dinner. The attraction is intense, but a first meeting is not the time.

When Shane sees Amber in his Economics class, he is more than a little startled. He’s up for tenure, and with a past accusation he can’t afford to date even a student who’s his age.

I absolutely loved this story, the interactions with the guys of Ten29, Levi’s parents and LJ are awesome. The romance between Shane and Amber is a slow simmer to kindle melting promise.

I can’t wait to see if there are more books in this series!

Bad Friend – Bad Housewifes Club Book 2 By Carmen Falcone

Bad Friend
Bad Housewives Club Book 2
By
USA Today Bestselling Author
Carmen Falcone

1cf2a-addtogoodreads

Single mom Brit wants a boyfriend, more money and a better life for her and her son—but not in this order. Knowing her track record with men, she hopes to boost her make-up artist career by attending a coveted convention. Too bad the cost is too high—unless she agrees to temporarily work for the hottest man in town, AKA her best friend’s ex-husband. Nothing can go wrong, right?

Damian’s life is a mess—his wife abandoned him, leaving him to balance his busy surgical career and raise their two children alone. Still, he’s determined to open his charity hospital for burn victims—a promise he’d made to his mother. Overwhelmed, he proposes Brit help him get his life on track as he persuades his investor to bankroll his dream. He’s got a hands-off policy with all his employees, but once nighttime falls, she becomes a forbidden temptation he can’t resist.

Eight months ago, Violet left her husband Damien and her two children, Trevor and Amanda, in the middle of the night with only a note saying she wanted a divorce and was getting help on the east coast. Her friends Brittany, Lara and Nikki had taken to helping Damien out when they could. It was easier for Brittany, a single mom, so she was there frequently.

Brit’s daughter Libby and Amanda are friends and play well together often having sleepovers when Damien was called in at night for surgery. The book opens with one of those nights. To her embarrassment, on their arrival Brit’s car dies. Unlike the others in their Bad Housewives Club her finances were a lot tighter.

When Damien returns that night, he offers to pay her for all the time she’s put in with his children and she refuses. He then comes up with a better plan.

This is a favorite scene.

Once inside, she chose an oversize chair at front, facing the blank projection canvas. He picked an ottoman and pushed it so he sat in front of her. Damn it. Staring into his hazel eyes would make everything so much harder.

“I’ve been thinking on the way back home about how wonderful you’ve been with the kids.”

She swallowed. That’s how these conversations always start. “Thanks.”

“I’ve taken you for granted. I guess I was on survival mode, being the main caretaker after Violet left. I can afford help, but the kids love seeing you more than the housekeeper or regular nanny.”

She waved him off, adamant on not telling him how the kids abhorred all the old-fashioned rules the regular nanny Mrs. Smith put in place. She figured she’d talk to the old lady and give her some pointers without getting her in trouble. “Hey. No sweat.”

“So I’d like to make it up to you. I’ll write you a check with a ballpark figure of all the hours you put in.”

She shifted on her seat. Maybe she was broke, but not enough to accept charity after he’d seen her dead car. Embarrassment flowed through her, warming her cheeks and neck. “Absolutely not. Listen, I helped as Lara and Nikki have. Violet was— is— one of us, and we love your children.” Accepting money now would negate all the help she’d done to her friend. Worse, would make her an official charity case.

“Brit, please—

She swallowed, feeling her pulse drum at the base of her throat. “This is about my car, isn’t it?” she asked him even if the question clawed her heart and then clenched it tighter for good measure.

“I want to help you as you’ve helped me.”

She bit her inner cheek. “I appreciate, but I’m okay. My hours have been cut at the store, and—

He touched her elbow, forcing her to look at him, and the light brush of his fingers on her bare flesh sent a scorching sensation up her arm then to other places she’d rather forget. At least for right now. When she arrived home and took a bubble bath, she’d certainly remember it.

“Well, then I have another proposition for you. Why don’t you give me those hours you lost and work for me when you’re available?”

She withdrew. “Work for you?”

“Yes, as my personal assistant. I’m behind in a lot of things on my life, and I’d love someone as reliable as you to help me out. It may be with the kids, or involve some filing paperwork at the clinic which my current medical assistant doesn’t seem to ever get done.”

“Oh. But my hours—

“I’m flexible. And you can drive the Land Rover while you work for me. Used to belong to Violet. I need to make sure you’re safe while running errands.”

She stared at him, her lips parting but no sound escaping them. A lump lodged in her throat, pulsing with anticipation. The idea wasn’t that bad… he’d probably only need her temporarily, maybe just until the same time the movement picked up again at the store. And she could use the money to pay for the conference she’d been dying to attend. When he yanked her from her thoughts to announce her hourly rate, she almost fainted. “That’s a lot,” she said. She didn’t know how much assistants charged these days, but the number he gave her was more than double what she made at the store.

He winked at her, and her insides melted like snow under the hot sun. “I’m a demanding boss.”

She bit back a smile. “Alright. Thank you for the opportunity, I’ll take it.”

“You’re welcome.” He clinked his beer bottle on hers, then lifted it to his mouth and took a swig.
Carmen Falcone. Bad Friend: Bad Housewives Club, Book 2 (Kindle Locations 191-219).

Working part-time for Damien puts them in close quarters and the attraction between them grows.

Although he is not yet divorced, he is confident he would soon have those papers in hand and this attraction turns into sizzling heat rather quickly.

I love the twists in this book and Damien and Brit make a great couple.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for this group of friends!

Vampire’s Don’t Babysit
Vampire Mythicals, Book 1

Surviving should have been enough.
It wasn’t.

Jake Reynolds and his fellow vampires survived the slaughter of their master, Melios, at the hands of the Immortal Knights Templar.

Call it luck. Call it fate. Call it whatever the hell you want.

Jake just knows that he should have been dead—another pile of sooty ash on the ground. Now he must find his place in the mythical world—vampires aren’t all that’s out there.

Even his doctor is a super-hot werewolf. He’s not even sure if he should find her sexy, but he does. And he wants to see if wolves and vamps are compatible.

In all the ways.

But the world’s a chaotic mess, and he’s been tasked to help fix it. Penance for previous crimes. They do what they’re told, and go where they have to, learning to live without being monsters among men. And kick ass, occasionally, in the name of Jackstone Foundation.

But when The Kid—Melios’s pet—needs help, Jake will not leave her out in the cold. She fed him too many times on the sly to leave her hanging now.

Mythicals are coming for her. And it’s up to Jake to keep her safe.

But what can one lone vampire do against an army and an ancient bloodline?

*A spin-off series from the Mythical Knights Series

Barnes and Noble logo_150 KoboLogogoogle_play_logo_002_002

The Knight’s Templar don’t take prisoners, but for some reason these six vampires have been saved. Now they are awaking from the coma they’ve been in since their maker Melios was killed. They are ‘young’ vampires but they were once military and part of Melios’ army.

Now they are starting to wake and it’s time to see if they can live. They are being kept in a facility run by the Jackstone Foundation that helps humans who have been hurt by mysticals and help mysticals relocate or needing medical assistance. The Vampires are another story a chaos ensues.

Two of the waking vampires had run as soon as they woke, Travis Collins and Joanie Alekhine had always done everything together. As Jake Reynolds wakes there’s a lot more commotion, he sees the others that had been under his command with him in the room. Issac Malcolm, Edward Thompson, and Deke Smith. It was Deke causing the ruckus and Jake couldn’t seem to get him to listen before he bit the nurse who had been tending them.

This is a favorite scene.

“Yes, human laws do apply,” snapped a woman’s voice.

Everyone, Jake included, turned and saw a new woman—a doctor, by the way she dressed—wrap her arm around the nurse, and she guided the woman to the door.

“Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?” Deke growled.

The woman looked like she wanted to scream. And if Jake wasn’t mistaken, her face morphed for just a second, elongating, then it stopped.

“I am—”

“I got this, Doc,” said another woman as she walked through the door. She had short spikey red hair and dark circles under her eyes. Thin. Short. Sword in hand. Guns strapped to her waist. Body armor.

She might have been considered a cute, petite thing, but her energy was, well, broken or something.

Jake Reynolds had seen a lot of shit. Especially when Melios took him to some weird-assed places he’d never knew existed.

But this gal.

There was something way off about her. Like way, way off.

The woman shoved Travis Collins and Joanie Alekhine into the room. “Here. You lost something, Doc.”

Both Collins and Alekhine were bound by what looked to be thin silver chains. And neither one seemed particularly happy about being brought back. Travis had a black eye. Joanie looked like she’d been punched a few times herself.

“You can’t do this to us. You can’t hold us like prisoners,” Alekhine said.

The woman looked at Joanie. “Actually, I can.” She waved the sword particularly close to Joanie’s face.

Joanie’s eyes scraped over the blade, and she stood up straighter.

“Thanks,” the doctor said and proceeded to release the chains. The skin looked scorched where the chains had rested on them.

The redhead gave the doctor side-eye, then glanced at the group. She rolled her wrist, making her katana flash in the light, showing exactly how wickedly sharp it was.

She looked at all of them like she was about to start a lecture.

“Is it monologue time?” Malcomb whispered.

Jake shot Malcomb a look.

Malcomb just shrugged.

Pretty sure the redhead with the sword heard it all.

“Now, kids. Here’s the deal. You do what I say without question, and we’ll all get along just fine.”

“Who are you?” Jake asked. “Where’s Melios?” He didn’t like throwing that out, but in the past, if he and his team ever got into trouble, just bringing up Melios’s name was enough to get them out of it.

She raised her eyebrow. “A pile of sooty ash blowing in the wind.”

The words slammed into him. While Melios was a fucked-up bastard, he was Jake’s sire—Jake’s maker. He made every one of them.

Even if the sire was horrible, it was hard to believe that he was actually dead. Melios had been alive for hundreds of years. Nothing should have been able to kill him.

Jake shook his head, trying to wrap his mind around it.

The redhead didn’t seem to notice or care. “You vampires are alive at my discretion. You continue to breathe, at my permission.”

Deke stepped forward, their differences in size was almost comical. Blood ran down Deke’s face, making him look even more the monster. “You’re not the boss of me, little girl.”

She turned directly to Deke Smith.

They were separated by a good thirty feet.

Then she disappeared.

What the fuck?

She reappeared directly in front of him, like a phantasm. She was barely corporeal when she pulled up her sword.

And shoved it straight through Deke’s chest.

In slow motion, Jake swore he could see each inch of the blade, shining in the bright white of the room as she pulled the sword back. T

hen, both slowly, yet still in a blink, Deke Smith disappeared in a puff of ash.

Like a car crash happening.

Both slow and fast.

A special effects movie.

But it was real.

The gray soot that suddenly hung in the room was Deke not a minute before.

Nobody moved.

The dust floated in the air, a horrible haze in the otherwise white room.

What.

The.

Fuck.

She glanced at each one of them in turn. “I’m Eve Harrison. And I will kill any one of you fuckers in a blink because I Do. Not. Care. About any of you. You will do as you’re told, or you will die.” She took a step away from where Deke had just been standing.

Gray dust covered her.

She didn’t bother wiping it off.

“Questions?”

“Yeah,” Thompson said. “I don’t—”

“Shove it up your ass.” She glanced around the room, glaring at everyone. “First order of business. Clean this room. You dumb bastards tore it apart. It will be so pristine; I can eat off it. You have one hour. Move.”

And with that, Eve Harrison walked out of the room.

The vampires glanced at each other.

“Well, fuck,” Malcomb said.

Jake agreed with him.
Gimpel, Ann. Rising From the Ashes: A Charity Anthology for Australia . Ann Gimpel Books, LLC. Kindle Locations (3378-3419). Kindle Edition.

Now there was someone else Melios held as a pet, a teenage girl. She often snuck to feed these young vampires when Melios would rather starve them. It’s this young woman that the Knights Templar are now trying to protect and being overwhelmed by vampires at every turn.

In the meantime as Eve works with the 5 remaining vampires, Jake and the werewolf doctor Megan seem to have an attraction. She also starts visiting him in her wolf form which leads to some very interesting scenes.

When Richard a Knight Templar shows up wanted Eve to watch over the kid, Jake recognizes her and volunteers to help. Kid or Child, no name, but Jake and his team know her well.

This book heats up with plenty of action as this take with the Child unfolds and the romance between Megan and Jake, sizzles off the pages.

I absolutely need to continue this series.
